La Gata #43- Wed 10/29 - La Angustia
Chácharas gets up and starts to show those lousy punks what a REAL fighter can do, but he only manages to unload the whoop-ass on Garabato before the rest of them gang up on him again. Ines is the one who calls them off and they drag Grabato away.
More circusy stuff. Pablo is going to keep giving Gata "detalles" (details, literally; little gifts, little things to show someone you care about them). The organ grinder is playing "Volver" I finally figure out.
Carlos is reading to Virginia from one of her Braille books. He'd like to write books, but he thinks he doesn't know enough. Virginia says she'll teach him to write in Braille.
More mime-ing. Gata finally asks what all this is about. And tells Pablo it's crazy. He agrees he's crazy for her. More mimes. Did he find a mime convention in the DF or something? The mimes spell out "te amo"with their bodies. Pablo says he wants to make her and the babies happy, if she'll let him. The mimes are on board with the plan.
Gisela looks at one of Pablo's paintings and scoffs about Esme being his "love" saying that love is relative. She Googles Pablo and finds out who his mother is.
Watch out, Lor, Gisela's cut from the same cloth. She goes over to introduce herself. She changed glasses. I don't like these.
Gata, now hours or days or weeks late for her first day of work, is back at Rita's actual hut finally getting ready to leave for work…again. Pablo brings her a…pencil box? Full of supplies? If he did, that's a nice first-day-of-work gift for a pre-K teacher's assistant. He begs forgiveness for Maria telling him about the job. He pleads again, sans mimes, to be allowed another chance. Esme agrees they can try to date, or something. And he can walk her to work.
Do I really care about Lorenza and Gisela doing their little dance? Gisela wants Lorenza and the rest of the family at Pablo's exhibit. Why? And why don't I believe Lorenza when she says she and Gisela are going to be BFFs?
Pablo tries to ask Esme out to dinner, and then tries to invite himself to dinner with the twins, and then tries to get permission to walk her to work tomorrow, and then tries to beg for a kiss without begging for one. He ends up kissing her on the cheek. And not actually getting an answer about their second date.
Rita keeps blessing the kids and Chácharas finally gets to her place. She whacks him with her herbs…and then when he accuses Ines of being one of the ones who attacked him, she whacks him some more. He rips the combs off her head and in her anger she sort of admits she did it. Maria takes Leti out of the hut. Ines tries to take it back, but Rita doesn't think Chácharas is a liar. So, fine, Ines admits it and smarms out. Rita doesn't know what to do with that girl. But she does know she wants to hug Chácharas.
Maria brings Leti to see Pablo on the hill. Leti must have a better agent than Pablito because she gets a lot more time facing the camera.
Fela, in another fetching frock, plays with her doll and finally seems to notice the house on the other side of the street. She sees someone outside and says "That's my house." She remembers playing with Renata on the lawn and Fernando putting a flower in her hair. Dorila doesn't notice Fela sneaking in. And that really is a very nice dress. She looks fabulous in that color.
Maria mocks Pablo for expecting her to come all that way carrying two babies. She'll bring Pablito tomorrow. Pablo goes to show Leti all the historic locations on the hill while Maria looks at his drawing.
A little redheaded boy at school steals a caramel apple from another boy to give to Esme. And he thinks she's pretty. I'm going to name him Gringuito.
Fela remembers all the things that happened in this house. She pricks her hand on something on one of the trees and ends up rubbing dirt on her face. Augie sees her and asks if she remembers him, but she doesn't. Well, he remembers her. Fela tries to introduce her dolly. Augie didn't get the memo that no, his precious Blanca isn't ok. And it's his fault…even though Fela says it's not his fault…she's like this because "they" stole her daughter. And so Augie realizes he did do it. Lorenza comes out to shriek at Fela for picking her flowers. Oh, we're going to have a chat about whose flowers those are, Lor. Augie defends Fela, shocking Lorenza.
Esme thought bubbles about what a great idea it was to start back at zero with Pablo. While she's supposed to be watching the kids.
Pablo talks to Leti about how he and Esme met. Leti has no objection to Pablo kisses.
Lorenza accuses Augie of humiliating her. Augie says he's defending her because she's obviously not right in the head. When Fela says the flowers are hers, Lorenza messes up the math, thinking Fela is just Fernando's lover or something, as opposed to the ex-lady of that house. She does more of her ranting about the invasion of the filthy poor people.
Fernando comes looking for Fela on the balcony and sees her fighting with Lorenza across the street. He goes over and stops Lorenza from hitting Fela. Lorenza yells at Augie for not defending her and calls Fela a danger to the 'hood and Fernando a danger in general. She gripes about him trying to take "her" house away.
Pablo talks to Leti about how he and Esme screwed up their relationship, but they're going to fix it. He decides to take her to work.
Fernando feels sorry for Augie. He at least did it for his family, but Lorenza is just a parasite. Augie's not really in the mood to argue. Fernando explains that Fela is like this because they took her daughter away--he's going to find out who did it and make them pay. Lorenza seems to think he should be content to be out of jail and should just go away and leave them alone. Well, we all know what Fernando's response to that is!
Back at his house, Fela is upset and Fernando offers to fill the house with roses for her…or fill the garden with rose bushes, just for her. Fela can't wait. Fernando thought bubbles that he can't wait to really have her back, though even as "Fela" she's winning him over.
Esme and the other teachers sing a song with the kids, naming body parts. She's missing the babies. Gringuito seems unable to sing because looking at Esme distracts him. I think I've named this kid correctly.
Maria worries about where Pablo and Leti are.
Carlos is at Rita's when Esme gets home. He and Rita know that Leti is with Maria, but she's been gone for a while.
Pablo takes Leti to see the mural and introduces her to his boss. He'll bring Pablito tomorrow. The boss remembers the day Esme brought them both, looking for Pablo. The day he fell off the scaffolding.
Esme is worried. It's nearly time to feed Leti, a storm is brewing, and Maria isn't back yet. Maria comes back, sans Leti.
Pablo, with Leti in a sling and riding a bicycle, heads for Rita's. And where did the sling and the bicycle come from?
Esme thinks Pablo is going to steal Leti and took advantage of Maria to do it. Until Rita agrees, then she backs off. Rita thinks since Pablo can't have Esme, he settled for Leti, who looks more like her. Mariano shows up, for no apparent reason.
Esme and Mariano go to the hill, looking for Pablo, but we already know she's not there. Mariano doesn't think Pablo would kidnap Leti. He comforts Esme, who thinks she was stupid to believe in Pablo. She tells him about agreeing to date Pablo again. Mariano tells her about the house arrest and their mother asking Pablo to get close to Esme so she could get Silencioso to lift the house arrest. According to him, Pablo's only doing it for the family. Not that Mariano wouldn't die for his family, but he wouldn't hurt a nice girl like Esme.
Pablo walks through the rain to get to Rita's. And where did the sling and the bicycle go?
In the car, Mariano keeps assuring Esme that Pablo wouldn't steal the baby. Before he can get an umbrella and open the car door for Esme, Lorenza calls to say that Augie is having a "crisis." He has to get home ASAP, so Esme gets out in the rain.
Augie is apparently having withdrawals. He's begging for booze and saying his body hates him like the world hates him. He starts blaming Lorenza and calling her his accomplice.
Esme keeps worrying. Carlos doesn't think there's any reason to worry. Rita keeps blaming Pablo. She decides to consult the cards and says someone is going to die. And Pablo stole Leti. Except that here's Pablo, soaked. Esme says that Leti is barely breathing and asks him what he's done.
Tomorrow: Mariano visits, death looms.

I don't care if they're dating, not dating, married, whatever...he's still the father of those kids and he has responsibilities. His participation in their lives is not dependent on him having a relationship with their mother. He needs to be actively involved. But, hey, whatever, let's have an explosion of mimes and talk about whether we can "date" again, because that's what's really important here. Bah!
And I thought I said NO MIMES!!!!!
*sigh* This is the end of your Kat Rant for today. Tune in tomorrow when I (probably) rant some more.
Like Esme, I don't think any of this was Maria's fault, but not because I think she's too young and silly to know better, just because I don't think it's her fault.
And why does it usually take Maria, Centavito and Esme two seconds to get back and forth from the hill to the dump to the big house to the city to the job to the dump and it takes Pablo once he's decided he'd better get the baby home before it rains (while riding a bike) 900 hundred hours and a 100-mile trek ON FOOT to get her out of the rain? Sheesh!
Mariano's starting to get creepy. Hope he doesn't get Meatball-level creepy!
Chacharas was lucky to get out of that beat down with his life. It is amazing how much bone mass is lost as people age, and I'm surprised that he didn't end up with multiple broken ribs.
Again, Inez gets away with nothing more than a few harsh words for her gang activities.
Ok, I thought the mime scene from the previous episode was alright and kind of cute, but the mime stuff in this episode was too much.
Gisela's glasses looked like something out of a 1955 movie.
gringo, 5ft named Esme's little admirer after you! How cool is that?
So the baby winds up in the hospital because of Pablo's getting caught in a rain storm? That's going to set the romance back several episodes.
Fernando: Lorenza = parasite. I loved that.
Augie has the DT's? What the heck, let him drink.
Thanks again, 5ft.
David
"Leti must have a better agent than Pablito because she gets a lot more time facing the camera."
"Fela, in another fetching frock"
"And where did the sling and the bicycle come from?....And where did the sling and the bicycle go?"
I agree it quite a leap that Pablo stole Leti, however it does reenforce his irresponsibility. All the guy had to do was show up at the shack anytime to see the kids. He did earlier to give her a gift and not so much a glance toward the babies. I expect this from the little boy that stole an apple to give the pretty teacher, but not from an adult man.
Esmeralda - stop blowing that whistle in my ear, I'm not a dog
Mariano - parked car, fogged windows, don't answer mothers call
Chácharas - waylaid, beaten, face down in the mud with not a hair comb to my name
Rita - awww, you're so sweet but I use a scrunchie
Augie - waited my whole life to watch a cat fight over me and I'm in this damn chair
Gisela - the way to a mamma's boys pants is through his mother
Pablo - shut up, it was a girls bike and they don't go as fast
Leti - mom, he's not close to being done with that mural
I’m probably Pablo’s only supporter on this blog so I don’t mind saying that I think the baby ending up in the hospital was largely his fault. He got carried away and used poor judgment. He kept the baby out way too long by cramming too many activities into one visit. Also, where I live it seldom goes from sunny skies to torrential downpour without a few minutes warning.
Lorenza’s over the top behavior is amusing to say the least. Considering Augie’s condition and appearance, he has a lot of nerve trying to make an old love interest (Blanca) remember him. If she were in her right mind I’m sure she would say “Dam, I’m sure glad I didn’t get mixed up with him”.
I think Pablo inherited his mother's or both parent's belief that they can do whatever they want and get away with it. Of course we have to have some baby-drama-in-the-hospital before too long.
I know this is a drama, but it feels like a comedy to me. And now the comedy Mi Corazon Es Tuyo feels like a drama. Trading in my beanie for a hazmat suit.

Thanks for your comment, Anon at 4:09...wormholes? He shouldn't have taken the left turn at Albuquerque?
Thank you, David, glad I could help! I think Gisela has a collection of rhinestone-encrusted glasses. So far we've seen red and animal print. I wonder what's next. I didn't think about Chacharas' bones being in danger...can't he mitigate that by doing weight training? He seems like he's still a fairly fit guy. Maybe that's what saved his ribs? Or...you know...unrealistic writing.
thanks, tofie. Yep, he could have visited the shack. Or stuck around rather than seeing Esme off to work. He got all focused on "I've got to get her back!" Hey, man, maybe the way to your baby mama's heart is through your kids? Just a suggestion.
Gracias, Susanlynn, it was definitely my bad dream...and the weird shack that was Rita's but it wasn't Rita's didn't help.
Thanks, Sara...maybe it's a basta ya of mimes? I could go for that!
thanks, Sue. That's a perspective I hadn't considered w/r/t Pablo trying to do too much in one visit. I can't fault Augie for trying to rekindle an old flame (if indeed she ever was one, because I have my doubts on that) given his physical condition. That's not his fault. The fact that he's responsible for her break with reality is more damning in my eyes.
Gracias, La Paloma! I did laugh at you opting to skip the mimes in favor of the emergency dental visit. I hope your son is doing ok!
Augie's paralyzed and in a wheelchair, and Lorenza is fussing at him for not defending her against Fela?
Ooooh, the handshake between Lorenza and Giselle. No idea what will happen, but it would be fun to see these two turn on each other.
