Mi corazon es tuyo, #59, 09/10/14 Yo, mamma!

This is mostly bullet points style, there were a lot of short scenes that I put together for better flow. I hope it all makes sense.

Ana hears a voice singing her mother’s song, as she remembers being a little child and watching her mom sing and play the guitar (fun trivia – little Ana is played by Pablo Montero’s real daughter; look closely and you will see the resemblance).
Yes, the person singing in present time is Yolanda’s and Carmen Salinas is doing her best to do justice to the song, but she doesn’t have the voice for it (if Yolanda truly is the mother, then her voice really transformed over the years).
Ana walks into the room and stares at Yolanda, who’s wondering what’s wrong, has the nana seen a ghost? Kind of…
Ana doesn’t reply, she just leaves, she is just too shocked right now.

Sisterly advice
Fanny finds Alicia’s scrapbook with I heart Gustavo written all over and tries to warn her little sister that the guy is bad news. But Alicia thinks that she knows better and he will NOT hurt her the same way that he hurt Fanny. (Ugh, Alicia, Isa’s obnoxiousness is rubbing off on you. Careful!).
Fanny thinks that Alicia should be interested in boys her own age, but then she gets interrupted by Enreek's call, confirming their date/ creepy meet up.
Fanny needs to run, please don’t forget not to hang out with older boys, mmmkay, Lichita?

Before putting the moves on the barely legal, Reeks warms up with step-mom Isa.
She’s trying to make him spill the beans about his plans with Fanny. He admits to having a plan, but apparently one thing that a gentleman and a predator have in common is that they never share details about their lady conquests. And since Isa is in luuv with Fernando, Reeks thinks that she’s no longer a good partner in crime.

The cook might have something in the oven soon (and it's not just dinner)
With Johnny still locked in the bathroom and hearing everything, Nico and Jenny talk about their future. He’s afraid that one day her love will turn into resentment, because he’s not able to give her a family. (How about making her the proud grand-mother of 7? Doesn’t that count, too?). Jenny admits that she did want babies, but now that she’s had time to get used to the idea of being childless, she has decided to fill the void with the great love that she feels for him. She wants to live in the present, not think about some distant future when he might be dead and she might be 40.
Also, she’s done some research of her own. Long story short, if they can get a woman to carry their baby, they can still be parents.
Getting home, Nico talks this over with Bruno and Manuela – the whole in vitro procedure and the need to find a woman to carry the child for them. Manuela offers to do it (!!!) because the Lascurains have helped Bruno and she loves Bruno and she’s crazy.
All I can say is: better Manuela than Ana.

Diego and Reeks meet in the hallway of their apartment building, they act friendly. I think Diego needs to check on his neighbor more often, some of his midnight (or early morning) callers are quite interesting.

The younger kids are practicing for the surprise dance routine they have planned for Alicia. Seb shows his dad a few dance moves, Ana and the rest of the kids clap their hands in enjoyment. Soon enough Fer starts to complain that his knees are killing him, but Ana has pills for those, so he better continue shaking those hips.

Fanny and Reeks are at the hippodrome. She’s riding, jumping fences, he’s watching from the sidelines with his pervy little eyes. He even helps her off the horse, which makes her feel very uncomfortable. That doesn’t stop her from inviting him to her sister’s party, though. What would a grown man want to do there?
In the meantime, he presents her with a white, beautiful horse – it used to be his, but he can’t ride it anymore, so he’d like her to have it. Fanny obviously says no, which is exactly what Reeks wanted, because as soon as Fanny leaves, he tells the guy who brought the horse than he can take the animal back from where it was loaned. Why does he think that pretending to give Fanny his horse would be a good idea, I have no clue. Can’t he see that he ain’t got no game when it comes to her?
In the meantime Leon and his mother worry about all their money troubles. What is Leon to do?

Nando goes to visit Ximena at the hospital. She screams, calls him a traitor for putting her in the hospital. Nando is impactado by the cold welcome, but eventually he leaves. The poor guy is truly heartbroken, he remembers everyone’s warnings about Ximena, but letting go is hard.

A story of two dresses… which is not much of a story, after all
Alicia is trying on the exclusive, designer dress that Isa bought for her and she is very happy with it. At the same time Ana and Luz prepare to show Alicia their dress, but they see her wearing the fancy one and decide to hide theirs. They are both very sad and tearful, Luz thinks that maybe they should show Alicia what they made for her, but Ana thinks that the other dress is better. Later on Fanny sees the dress, too, and Ana crying about it and she thinks that Alicia should see her second dress, too, because even if the first one is very expensive, the second one comes from the heart. But Ana doesn’t want to talk about it anymore, the dress she created is something that she would have liked to wear for her quinceanera - surely Alicia would prefer the more expensive one.
Fer sees that Alicia will be wearing the dress Isa picked up and not Ana’s dress, but he doesn’t say anything, either.
I am curious which one Alicia would pick if given the choice …
For now this is all the drama surrounding the dress. I admit I was expecting more. Maybe more will come later.

Fernando, Ana and the kids exercise the routine some more. When Fernando is called inside to talk to Leon (who came to ask for his job back), Ana tells the kids that she and Diego are now novios. They ask what about our dad, but finally they are all happy for el tio and the nanny and want to know if they love one another/ if they are getting married/ when they are getting married. Ana can’t talk about that for now, but she does promise that she will never leave them.

And here is the novio, and he’s bringing flowers for the novia. They are very cute together and she's not upset that he snooped in at the detective agency (someone called Ana to let her know that he was there); she doesn’t mind the help, so he asks about the guitar, because he thinks they can track down where it was bought from. Ana is amazed that they could find this type of information after 30… something years (LOL).
Fernando and Leon see them in mid-smooch and he rudely asks Ana to go fetch Fanny for Leon (who will work as a messenger again); Ana goes, but not before slowly touching Diego’s cheek – take that, Fernando Lascurain!
But Fanny doesn’t go down because she’s busy getting Alicia ready for the party and trying to knock some sense into her when it comes to Gustavo. Not a chance, she is wasting her breath.

Fernando actually gives Leon some good advice about women: when you screw up, it’s only normal that they would treat you badly and take their time to forgive you. He knows that Leon still loves Fanny, so basically he’s telling him to hang in there.
Diego likes Leon’s drawings and Fernando thinks that he shouldn’t give up on his career.

Yolanda asks Ana to paint her nails and Ana agrees. In Yola’s room she is again singing the song and Ana sees that she has the same nail polish that her mom used to wear. So she asks Yola where she’s from – Catepec – Ana is impactada; what did she do for a living – she used to play a guitar mostly – Ana freaks out; did she happen to have another daughter – how does Ana know that? She better get out now!
Ana leaves, meets Isa in the hall, but she just stares at her and then stumbles away. Isa finds her mother crying, but Yola won’t share what’s wrong – and for once she calls Ana by her name and not some mean nickname.

Ana goes to her room, where Diego finds her. Guess what? Ana thinks that she might have found her mother – and it’s none other than Yolanda (and Ana’s expression when she says this is priceless).

Previews:
At Alicia’s party, Isabela wants a picture of the whole family, Ana NOT included.
During the surprise dance routine Fernando catches Ana in his arms.

Comments:
please don't let Yoyo be Ana's mother!

Who would have guessed that Ozorio would cast PM's daughter if he was having such a hard time with PM?

I might be in the minority but I really want to see Jenny and Nico together.

Looks like tonight is Alicia's 15th, so we should see some Sparks fly (literally and figuratively).

The previews showing Isabruja excluding Ana from the photo and Fer allowing takes him down another notch to me.

Carlos
Thank you so much for your response to my earlier post about antagonists and bad girls. It was great insight into another way to view and understand a character. Also I will be able to understand your comments more. I love when you post because you offer such a different point of view.

I, for one, get so wrapped up in the role that the antagonist(s) play in a novela that I truly find them despitefull as the writers probably want us to think.

The only novela that comes to mind where I can remember changing my mind about the female antagonist and really liking and sympathizing with at partway or even towards the end was Antonia in "Amor Real". She changed from an antagonist to somewhat of a heroine.

Urbah, great topic for weekend discussion, "what really bugs you about telenovelas, the writers, the producers, or the characters".

If yoh haven't done this one already.

Adriana, thanks for the wonderful recap.

Victoria, you have company: I want to see Jennifer and Nico together, too.

Adriana, yes, Manuela is better than Ana for a surrogate.

The creepiest moment was Enrique helping Fanny off the "rental horse."

The whole "Ana and the dress" plot is weird an annoying. Why would she not tell Alicia she was making a dress? A '"surprise" dress isn't going to cut it the day of such a special event. Did she think Alicia was going to go in jeans? Then Ana is all weepy? Makes no sense for me.

The quinceañera tonight should be fun.

Jarifa

This is in no way a spoiler so I just thought I'd let you guys know Methuselah from PSMA pops up later in the show (again, not a spoiler; just something funny I'd like to give you guys a heads up about.) I don't even know his name or character here,I'm just watching cap.74 and he appeared.

Good work. I admit that really short scenes often give me headaches. I really wish they'd stop editing them that way.

Anon at 4:51, we've had that topic twice before, but I will have a variation on it later.

Ana must have grabbed one of Alicia's current dresses in order to get the size right or she couldn't have done this without a series of fittings. Both dresses are beautiful and there is no reason to think that Alicia would prefer the one Isa bought just because it was expensive. While these kids have issues, snobbery isn't one of them. Fanny, Sr was a good mother.

BTW, Carmen Salinas is 81 years old, so we can't expect her singing voice to be great anymore (if it ever was). It is a rare singer who can go past 70. Of course her character isn't nearly that old either.

Lots of Libras in the cast; Her birthday was on the 5th.

More later after caffeine.

Does anyone know for sure how many episodes this novela will be? 185, 200, etc.?

I think it was originally projected to be 180, but if they extend it 200 would not be unlikely.

Adriana Noel, I always smile when recappers cite they've provided bullet points and yet the recap was fabulously detailed as this was. "The cook might have something in the oven soon (and it's not just dinner)" was fabulous.

"Fanny thinks that Alicia should be interested in boys her own age, but then she gets interrupted by Enreek's call, confirming their date/ creepy meet up" was very sound advice. "Before putting the moves on the barely legal" and "apparently one thing that a gentleman and a predator have in common is that they never share details about their lady conquests" were among my many favorites.

"I am curious which one Alicia would pick if given the choice" was something I was also wondering. They were 2 different dresses - Isa's was more sophisticated and Ana's was romantic. I love pouf and frou frou so of course I would have chosen Ana's (many years ago when I was young and even now).

Victoria, I am very much with you and Jarifa in rooting for Jen and Nico. I think they are well matched and are very happy together.

Urban, thanks for the info on Carmen. I have to say I'm conflicted about the possibility of Yolanda being Ana's mother. Love the actress (along with Carlos), but the character does not seem to jive with the sweet, loving mother Ana remembers. But, that said, she is sticking up for her daughter. As Ana does for her "children" albeit in a kinder, gentler way. I think this is a red herring.

With Fernando giving relationship advice to Leon, am I the lone hold out in forgiving Leon? Ack.

Diana

Thanks Urban, I've been all over the internet trying to find out and have found nothing along with the rumor and published reports that Osorio fired PM. PM is so popular that it would be a mistake to kill him off. Just let him go into the sunset happily.

Adriana great recap.

"A story of two dresses… which is not much of a story, after all"

"Can’t he see that he ain’t got no game when it comes to her?"

Manuela - me being a peon with child bearing hips and all

Bruno - get in line if you considered fatherhood

Diego - cherry lipgloss, bro

Ricky - horses ass

Fanny - this is not a test of Emergency Alert System

Ana - I must have been really bad in a prior life

Alicia - gushing for Gus

Nando - helplessly hoping

Diana, since it seems all males and female adults need to be paired up, I am casting my vote for León (being the only available choice in the telenovela) to end up with Fanny. He will do his necessary penance first, of course.
Hey, it looks like Fernando is even seeing that eventuality. He really isn't all that bad when you think of the Enriques and Gustavos and Johnnies of the world. He just was a "cowardly León" with the truth. This really is a comedy, isn't it?

Jarifa

Tofie, i have one for Fernando

Fernando - easy to share wisdom after water is past the bridge.
or
get some spine, man!! stand up for justice and true love for your kids!!

about the dresses... i would say Alicia would probably pick Isa's dress but if she listened to advice from Fanny, she would realize that pastel pink tone of Isa's dress washes off Alicia's skin tone and even makes her look older than 15... heck older than 21!
if given the right advice on color and patterns and 'style', not to talk about sentimental value, if I were ALicia I would pick Ana's.

she asks Yola where she’s from – Catepec –
(actually YoMama pretended to be a countess from England before she was kidding and then she admitted she was from Catepec... which seems to match where Ana's mom is from, maybe the orphanage is over there..?

I have to admit i LOVE the bonding Fernando and Leon are building now, even if it is built on parallel bad outcomes for their decisions (water under the bridge)

at least Fernando will show some spine tonight per the previews (he has to shout to Isa, mostly because of the loud music around them, that Ana is coming back to the house)... this after Isa had to pick her jaw from the floor when Fernando caught Ana during the dance routine, which looked more like an intentional dip and another 'almost kiss' right in public view (LOL!)

"cowardly León" made me laugh Jarifa! Great line...

I'm clearly not as forgiving as my fellow commenters. It still rankles me that he slept with Fanny while legally married and didn't tell her. This is an issue that hits a little too close to home for me (not with my husband but within my family) so...

And yes, in comparison with what others have done, he's a choir boy. :)

Diana

The creepy part was when Ricky was watching Fanny's fanny bop up and down on that horse.

I think something bad is going to happen to Alicia's designer dress (on Isa's orders) and Ana's dress will save the day. Remember, Isapieceofscum doesn't know that Ana made a dress for Alicia.

Ana will be Yolanda's redemption.

Poor Nando.

Anon... i have been thinking about that possibility (Ana's dress will rescue Alicia since something will happen with Isa's dress) all along... wouldn't it be nice... but too good to be true, I think.
but you are right... Isa and YoMama are the only ones that don't know there is a 'second dress' out there... even Diego, Luz, Fanny and Fernando know.

“Better Manuela than Ana,” said Hera. “That would make for an ugly Oedipal situation later.”

“Definitely, my dear wife,” said Zeus. “Neither Ana, nor Fernando nor Diego deserve that.”

“It might look like an impulsive decision on her part, but Manuela is a real human being,” said Persephone. “She loves this family. Except for Hissabela they treat her with due respect.”

“I can't wait to see Hissabela's face when she hears about this!” said Hermes. “Another Lascuráin heir to bleed away the fortune she wants to steal.” He laughed.

“She's not getting anything she bargained for,” said Aphrodite. “And if Enrique steals or bankrupts the company she won't get even that.”

Adriana, sorry I forgot to say that was a wonderful recap. I loved your bolded sub-titles...

Marta, after the conversation between Fernando & Leon I almost penned

Fernando - Misery loves company

Thanks Adriana Noel. This recap is excellent. I like the way you have sprinkled your opinions throughout. Nicely done.

I'm really not liking the idea of Manuela loaning out her uterus for this ill-matched, short-sighted, and downright selfish (sorry) couple. One minute Nico is calling the whole thing off and the next they are planning to have a child in this most unconventional manner? I guess one good thing is that much of the visceral dislike of Manuela which was previously expressed here seems to have dissipated quite a bit.

Diana,

I'm with you on León. He (and his mom as well) has a long way to go to redeem himself with me. Now perhaps if somewhere down the road he manages to rescue Fanny from a rape at the hands of Enrique (although a pervert, he doesn't strike me as a rapist), or something equally gallant, I may reevaluate my opinion of him.

I hope that we at least get to see Alicia in Ana's creation. Right now, I think that the designer dress is more attractive but without seeing Alicia wearing Ana's, I can't say for sure.

I'm liking more and more the idea of Yolanda as Ana's mom. Though the idea apparently is disappointing (at least right now) to Ana, just imagine Isabela's chagrin at having Ana as her sister.

Sorry, but I think that Fernando's dancing is even more embarrassing than Sebabstián's.

Carlos

tofie, that's BRILLIANT!!! love it!

Carlos, i agree that Fernando should stick to his slow romantic ballroom dancing... loved the little dance they got when he got drunk that one night. (which we get to rewatch in part in his memory flashes)

The name of Yolanda's city is not Catepec. It is ECATEPEC, a city in the State of Mexico, but so close to Mexico City that it is actually considered a suburb of Mexico City. I believe all the images we see of city buildings, museums, etc., are images of Ecatepec. In other words, Yolanda is a local.

Here are more details on Ecatepec:

Marta,

Wow! What a beautiful (and happy) baby.

Carlos

thanks, young grandson is now almost 5 mos old.

Thank you for the wonderful recap!

This can't be the end of Ana's dress for Alicia. It would be very anti-climatic for it to just go away.

I don't like the previews of Fer catching Ana and looking like he might kiss her. Diego loves her and I don't want him to be hurt when he sees it.

I'm wondering if Reeky has something more dastardly in line for Fanny. Like having her hurt physically, comparable to his dad. The whole offering of the horse made me think he was testing her sense of adventure.

Fer and the kids dancing was funny and it was nice to see Fer relax a bit.

I now think Yomama is definitely not Ana's mother but knows who Ana's mom is because they worked together and were friends. At least this is what I'm hoping.

Adriana, I love the recap style. Perfect for last night since it seemed we were getting little setup future plot scenes.

And Oh, my, what a sweetie Marta! That smile made my day after three hours of staring at audit files.

Sorry Carlos, not going to be a fan of Yomama as Ana's mother because I don't see anything in her character changing that much to make me want these two connected. I worry for Ana though on how this plays out either way.

And thank the heavens! The existence of Manuela in our story has been justified. I'm pleases as punch it is not going to be Ana, and yes, Isa will have a hissy fit that gramps will be bringing a new sib into the family.

I definitely don't think we have seen the last of the dress. And I don't care how much that dress costs that Alicia choose, the color is so drab for a young girl and honestly, doesn't do anything for her.The brighter pink and more fun look of Ana's dress ( you can park the crown) is more fun and eye catching. I'm interested to see what happens with it. Did feel bad when I saw Luz little lip quiver in disappointment.

Fer and Leon--our two peas in a pod. From the outset, the writers have paralleled their stories, so it seems fitting these two would start to realize their screw up together. Both are knights in tarnished armor, so they have some fierce fighting to do to get back in good graces.

And I would like to pull up a chair to the Nico/Jen table too. I like these two, darn it, and have no reason except I just do. Johny needs to go find that dancer at the club who keeps salivating over him and be done.

Poor Nando, and I'm hoping Fanny is starting to open her eyes to His Creepiness. He sniffs her hair so help me.....

Daisynjay

Thank you, Adriana! Fantastic recap, and funny title.

NOOOOOO!!!! Fernando should absolutely NOT stick to ballroom! His hip-hop moves gave me the best laugh I have ever gotten from this show! Alicia will probably be mortified if he shows them off in front of her friends, though.

The fancy dress Isa bought for Alicia is so bland, it looks like it's meant to be the corset and slip under another, better dress. It does absolutely nothing for Alicia. Isa seems to intend to do something horrible to Alicia, so I am hoping that she is going to ruin the dress somehow and then will be foiled when Ana whips out the better replacement.

How is Fanny not thoroughly creeped out by Enfrique already? Whose boss shows up on a Saturday to watch them ride a horse and then gets all creepy close insisting on helping them down? And after insisting on driving her home when she had her own car available? Newsflash, Frique, Fanny is an accomplished rider. I think she can handle dismounting on her own. When Fanny was advising Alicia to be wary of the nasty older guy I was wishing she would listen to herself. Of course, since she is not interested in Enreeky, I don't think his intentions are even hitting her radar. I wish she would talk to Leon about him.

Adriana Noel: Thanks for the detailed bullet point recap.

I’m not fond of the one-sleeved dress. I love the sleeve on Ali’s dress, but wished they’d put one on the other side. The color is pretty, too. However, I like Ana’s better. The color and style are so festive and looks just as well made as the designer dress.

I'm definitely sitting at the Nic/Jen table. I hope they’re still together at the end.

I think Leon is paying the price for his deception. He’s lost the love of his life and, now that he’s working at the same place again, he’ll being seeing her everyday knowing that he’s lost her. Plus, he’ll have to see EB scamming on her.

Looks like EB plans on seducing Fanny as part of his revenge on Fer. That would kill Fer.

EB said something about a scandal, I think. Maybe that Fer is having an affair with the nanny?

Carlos: Nico wanted to call off the wedding because he wouldn’t be able to adopt a child and he didn’t want to take that away from Jen. Jen saying they could with invitro solves that problem. Also, I didn't like Manuela because she was too broadly played at first. Now that she’s got Bruno’s love, she seems to be more serene.

Carvivlie: I like that Fer tried to learn the hip hop dance from Sebes. Another great bonding moment for them, and another opportunity for Fer to relax a bit.

I was watching DAYS (decided that I was watching when Allison Sweeney was introduced as Sami, so I’d watch when she leaves the show). I noticed this pretty girl and my first thought was “she’s novela pretty” (she also looked a little like Maria-Robo) and then another girl showed up and thought “she’s novela pretty, too.” Don’t remember ever thinking that novela actresses were soap opera pretty. Guess we now where my serial story loyalties lie.

Nanette

Sorry guys, I give Fernando big kudos for even trying hip-hop at his age and with his uptight character!

I'm glad that Leon is going to be working at the company again, because even if he never gets back together with Fanny (which I would be totally fine with, although if he works really hard at redeeming himself, I'd also be willing to forgive him), he will definitely be paying attention. I hope that he will point out to her the ways in which Reeky's behavior is completely inappropriate. Or at the very least, Fanny might overhear Reeky abusing Leon and get a clue about how awful he is.

Fanny is totally clueless. In what universe is it okay for your brand new boss to be at all family events; offer to take you home when you drive and have your car; go watch you ride; put his hands on your waist to help you down and then try to GIVE YOU A HORSE?? Surely it should feel more than slightly uncomfortable to her! Where are all her self-preservation alarm bells? Where are ALL THE ADULTS IN THE FAMILY's alarm bells? You better believe that if someone, anyone, was sniffing around a beautiful young female in my family, my guard would be up and my perv-radar set on "high!" Really, people? NOBODY thinks En-creepo is inappropriate? And she still invites him to the quinceanera? QTH?

Someone (sorry, forgot who) mentioned that Alicia's designer dress makes her look older and she doesn't realize it. I agree, but I rather think that if someone pointed this out to her she would see it as a good thing and insist even more on wearing it, particularly with Fanny telling her that she is too young for Gus. She hates being her age and she would like nothing better than to have the "love of her life" see her as a real "mujer!"

It was sad seeing little Luz so disappointed about the dress, but I agree that Ana should have known better than to spring it on Alicia the day of. I'm just glad that it was Ana almost walking in on her as she tried on the Isa dress instead of the other way around. La bruja would not have hesitated on walking in and disparaging Ana's dress and accessories and the naca-ness of it all with Alicia agreeing and hurting Luz and Ana's feelings even more. Isabela is just horrible like that.

It seemed to me that Fanny was a little uncomfortable during that exhange with EB.

I don't think that Ali would do anything to hurt Ana. She is enamored of Isa--but not totally.

I want Fanny to have a long talk with Ana about all these little instances with Enreeky. I think Ana will tell her in no uncertain terms how creepy and inappropriate this is!

Fanny, WAKE UP. Both Beatriz and Leon have directly accused you of having something going on with Enreeky. Ask yourself, WHY DO THEY BELIEVE THIS?

I don't think Alicia would willingly hurt Luz and Ana's feelings, but I do think she would agree with Isa regarding the dress. In her excitement over it, she wouldn't notice that their feelings would be hurt. She has seen/heard some of Isa's rants and has just brushed them off - not because she's mean spirited, but because Isabela is giving her the attention and validation she so craves (not realizing how phoney it is).

En-creepo
thanks! that is a great nickname to steal...

I'm kind of blah when it comes to Jenny and Nico - I only really care about them when they are involved with our main three: Fer, And and Diego.
Nico looks good for a 70 year-old, but OMG, he's already 70 and she's 35, maybe?
There is less of an age difference between Reeks and Fanny - and yeah, I know that he's evil and she's barely legal, but still.

I'm thinking that more is coming with the dress, too. I think Alicia was still wearing it in the preview, but maybe something happens to it and she has to change.

I liked Fer trying to dance with Seb, it shows that he not only trying to be a good dad, he actually is one. He's finally paying attention to all his kids and is more understanding of their likes and dislikes.

Isa is stupid for plotting on Alicia because that's the one kid that's on her side. Isa could point out to Fernando that she gets along well with Alicia and Nando & Fanny are at least civil to her, but Sebastian & the Twins are out of control and need to go to boarding school.

But if she does something bad to Alicia, now ALL of the kids will be against her. Think, dummy, think! Alicia is your ONE ally in the house!

Fanny doesn't have major alarm bells but look at who her dad is. I'm pretty sure both Diego & Nico would've caught Golddigger Vibes off of Isa. Here Fernando is letting Enrique pal around with his nubile 19 year old daughter. Bad Idea! We can't blame Fanny for not being street smart when her dad isn't either. I'm 2x Fanny's age and MY dad wouldn't let me around a creep like Enrique!

Jarifa, yeah, why keep the dress secret until the last moment? How did they plan the whole party without mentioning what Alicia would wear? This is just unbelievable, a very poor plot point.

Urban, I had no idea that Carmen Salinas was over 80. Wow! She is playing the part of a 60 year-old, though and I can only imagine how she feels in her scenes of seduction with Nico. LOL

Diana, sometimes I take so many notes for recaps that it's impossible for me to write everything down and still have some fluency, so I just turn to the so called bullet points, because it goes faster. But, yeah, it's hard to keep it short with so many dialog and scene changes.

Tofie, your one liners always crack me up. You sum up everything so nicely. I soooo wish I could have come up with the horses ass description for Ricky!!

Carlos, I think that having a mother like Yolanda opens up a ton of possible scenarios for Ana. Even when she's telling this to Diego, you can see that she's all like: "seriously, from all the women in the world??" She's not into "mommy dearest" mode, she is as disappointed as we are. In tns, long lost parents of protas always either have the money + class or are poor but noble and such. Having Yolanda as a mother would be a different way to tell the story - how will Ana cope with having such an awful family, when all her life she's dreamed about this.
But I believe this is just a red herring and someone else will be the mother.

The Nico/Jen pair up doesn't bother me. Jen can't carry her own kids; Nico is too old to adopt. They may go surrogate or Jen might be content to be a young step-gramma to Nico's 7 nietos. I think if Nico were younger (say, Johnny/Fernando/Diego age), the child issue might be more of a problem...the man may just leave Jenny for a woman that can bear his children and/or adopt.

I also don't have a problem with the Nico/Jen hookup because of Jen's age...she is 34. She's lived her life, got experience under her belt. I'd be more skeeved out if Nico and someone Fanny's age or even someone in their 20s got together.

The fact is, for a woman in her 30s & 40s and up, the pickings among your age group get slimmer and slimmer the older you get. The guys in their 30s & 40s may not want to settle down just yet, and if they want kids they may pick a younger woman. So if you want to settle down, what do you do? Do you wait for an appropriate aged partner or do you branch out to other age ranges? The only concern I'd have of the Nico/Jen pairup is the eventuality of Jen becoming Nico's nursemaid.

But right now, he's in relatively good health, is active, willing to try new things instead of just sitting at home in a rocking chair. If he makes Jen happy, and she makes him happy, I say go for it.

how will Ana cope with having such an awful family, when all her life she's dreamed about this.

very good point, Adriana. All of Ana's memories of her mother are so gentle, kind and subtle... and you get this woman who put you on her black list even before she even met you and has done nothing but make your life miserable... tough bite to deal with if you have idolized your mother all your life.

“You know, they really need Romeo and Juliet laws in Mexico,” said Aphrodite. “Alicia is in over her head about Gustavo.”

“Here's hoping he has enough sense to not pursue her,” said Athena. “Doesn't any parent in that country realize that a quinceañera these days effectively declares their daughter legal for sex?”

“Lots of girls actually have their first times on this occasion.”

“Why don't you do something about that?”

“No te preocupes,” Aphrodite said with a wink. “Alicia's family will protect her. And who says that Gustavo is any more experienced than he was when Fanny ran out on him?”

USA Today had an article about this in 2008.

Nico is wealthy enough that I don't think Jen has to anticipate years of changing his diapers or anything, even if he does lose a lot of abilities. They could afford to hire nurses at home to do that kind of thing, and she could spend some of her day enjoying his company without having to do the work, and part of the day on her own hobbies or career. And Nico is healthy and takes good care of himself, so chances are he's got a lot of good years left. Life is uncertain; he could even outlive Jen. If she married a guy her own age, that guy could die suddenly or develop a chronic serious illness. If she's happy with Nico, I see no reason they shouldn't go for it.

I agree, Julia... and like someone said this week, even if Nico has only a few years to live, Jen will still be young and totally able to build a new life, esp with whatever Nico leaves her. And since she would be a family member already, she will have all those kids to help raise.

Correct.

My paternal aunt is 95 and still drives. She's still active in her church. She doesn't do a lot else, but her mind is still sharp. She had open heart surgery when she was 87. Nico sounds like that.

When I was in grad school, I took a building materials conservation class and everyone had a project to study and write a report on how to conserve a particular old building in the area. I went with one of my friends to visit her project. It was this really old house. The woman who owned it was 94 and she had lived there since she first got married more than seventy years earlier. She was interested in getting help with some restoration because she wanted to turn her house into a bed and breakfast to benefit a local charity. At 94 years old, she was starting this project. She was very spry. The stairs were so steep they made me nervous, but she zoomed right up and down them like it was nothing.

Watch this be the ONE time Ana does not do a DNA test.

However, the camera did linger on Yola's hairbrush on the bureau . . . .

How you remember that is fascinating Nanette! I hope Ana steals it and gives it over for the dna testing before saying anything to Yomama.

In which case we can kiss medical verisimilitude goodbye because didn't Carlos tell us back when that one needs a blood sample for this test?

Thanks so much for your recap Adriana. Shuddering about Yomamma possibly being Ana's mom and hope you are right that's this is a red herring.

How in the world can Ana make a promise to the kids, to ALWAYS be there with and for them while dating their uncle? If the relationship with Diego results in matrimony they will have their own life and doubt Diego will want his wife living separate nor want to live together in the house with his brother. Yes, Ana will be around occasionally as their aunt but not their mother which is the roll she plays now despite technically only a replaceable nanny. This family has all kinds of boundary issues and this just another.

For Ana's sake I hope Yolanda is not her mother and Isabela her sister.

I think it is likely the scandal Ricky hopes for is related to Ana but it may be Ricky finds out and discloses Fernando hired an exotic dancer to keep his kids, is in love with her, lives with him and sleeps down the hall from his pregnant distraught wife. I worked at a corporation the board pressured the CEO to fire our COO when the COO got a DUI. A hoochie coochie dancer in the house could get it done easy.

Urban: You may be right. Maybe hair can only be used to test that you are who you are but not if you are related to someone else.

Now that Reeky knows Diego lives down the hall I guess he won't be catching Isa leaving. Though it now sets Diego up as a possible target to use in their plan.

I just looked at a few websites and they said that for paternity testing, you need the root if you use hair, but maternity testing can be done using hair without the root because the hair contains the mitochondrial dna from the mother.

True?

UA,

No, a blood sample is not essential for DNA analysis. As long as the hair has an intact follicle, there will be cellular material available which is adequate for DNA analysis and matching.

Carlos

Julia is right.

Carlos

While I understand (though I disagree with) the strong feelings here against Yolanda turning out to be Ana's mom, I'm puzzled by the mental gymnastics invoked hoping to refute what is becoming more and more obvious. I see no reason why Yolanda would want to be identified as Ana's mom in the first place. Besides, how does she know the brand of nail polish her mom preferred, or that song that Ana recognizes, or the city she lived in?

Carlos

I don't think she would want to pose as Ana's mom, but I'm still hoping that they only happened to come from the same neighborhood, and that song and nail polish color were popular there! Or maybe, as they were both singers, one of them inspired the other stylistically.

You're probably right; she probably is Ana's mother. But I do wonder why, even if she didn't want to reclaim her daughter (maybe she thought her rich husband wouldn't accept another child, then later thought it was too late), she wouldn't have tried to check up on her and at least know what had become of her daughter, and therefore she would have known who Ana is already. Could the loving mother Ana remembers really have turned into such a callous woman who wouldn't even be curious?

There are women in the world with no maternal feelings. Yolanda may be one of them because I get no sense of love between her and Isabitch. Each is real piece of work.

Carlos: as I stated before, my objection to Yola is that I can't believe that she'd be Ana's mother. She's too old. She's too short;)

If I could wrap my mind around what I consider a miscast, I would be alright with her being Ana's mother. She's given indications she's redeemable.

I think Yomama has maternal feelings bec she was hurt when Isa introduced her as her nanny. I think the fact that her daughter doesn't respect her and treats her so poorly means that she has had to put up walls to keep the pain manageable.

Adriana, that was a wonderful recap. So much drama to spread around this large family.

True. Maybe Ana's impression of her mother that we see in the memory is based on toddler unconditional-attachment-to-mommy haziness, conditioned by years of longing for a mother, that have given her a false sense of what her mother was really like. She might remember just the fingernails and the singing, and have filled in anything else from seeing other loving mothers with their children.

If Yolanda really is her mother, I would assume she was never maternal and wasn't interested in going back for Ana because she figured an orphanage girl could do nothing for her, and that Ana's rosy memories aren't wholly accurate.

Yolo's hurt feelings when Isa introduced her as her nana could also have been because she wanted to be granted lofty status and not to be seen as a servant, however beloved Isa might claim that servant to be.

I think there has been massive dysfunction in the relationship between Yomama and Isabully. It's hard to say who is the more guilty of the two but when such things happen the mother usually is the one to blame for starting it.

Unless we want to believe that Isabitch is a Bad Seed. But we don't have adequate information to draw any real conclusions from.

I also think this could be a red herring because it's too early for such a disclosure.

I like Leon, his wife left him, taking his kid. Agreed, he should have revealed that to Fan, but that doesn't make him a bad guy.

Love is love, old & young, same sex, whatever, how would that hurt anyone else?

I guess I'm the only one that likes Yo, I like Carmen Salinas. Yo is funny. Her hija, Isa has hurt her, she will be a very different person with Ana. She puts on airs, acts ridiculous, I find her humorous.

Even if Yolanda is not Ana's mother, whoever it ultimately turns out to be, no matter how attractive, will inevitably have a lot to answer for, don't you think?

Carlos

Definitely, unless she was kidnapped and held hostage all these years, or lost her memory.

In France DNA testing is done using the saliva of both parents and the baby. A friend of mine just had one done for his son (wife had been unfaithful before pregnancy ), the situation was very messy. The test came back positive after about a week but what a week that must have been. ..
I think that Yo can definitely be redeemed, we've seen much worse in tn land. Once you abandon a Child I don't think it's that easy to track it down in an orphanage ;
maybe she tried but it was too late.
Isa will continue to treat her badly and Ana will try to get close to her and slowly but surely we might discover that Yo has a heart after all.
