La Malquerida #67, 11/26/2014: Caray Caray Would Have Happily Helped Juli With the First Part of Her Plot

Mexico Episode #73

Happy Thanksgiving!! I hope you all have a wonderful day with your family and friends, but do drop in between bites of turkey and pie to discuss this episode.

Acacia Makes Announcements, Does Undercover Acts of Kindness, and Spills Secrets:
Acacia gathers the family together to tell them she’s done with Ulises, FOREVER…and she really, really means it this time. At least, until the next time she changes her mind. The family is happy to hear it. Lizi arrives and we find out what all the secret calls between her and Acacia were about. Seems that a girlfriend of Lizi (*cough*, Hector) has a connection with an art gallery that wants to do a show of German’s and Cris’ art! Yay! German, Cris, and everyone else is excited. Lizi voices her reservations to Acacia about keeping the real person behind the show secret and taking the credit. But she doesn’t feel bad enough to reject German’s grateful kisses.

Later Acacia visits Alejandra and whines about Ulises lying to her. Ale is concerned that Acacia will once again be vulnerable to Esteban’s charms. She warns Acacia to keep her distance from Este and to remember that he’s her MOTHER’S HUSBAND. Acacia says she won’t forget it, since he and Cris are about to have a baby. Ale is sufficiently impactada.

Visiting Hours in the Local Hoosegow*:
Ulises gets a few visitors. Cris, visits as part of her mission to protect her baby Acacia. She asks Uli to let Acacia go on with her life (without him) if he really loves her. Uli asserts his love and his innocence, and swears that once he proves his innocence he’ll win back Acacia’s love. (Dude, she doesn’t deserve YOU!) Cris says she’ll make sure he never sets foot on the hacienda again. (Gringo—Perhaps we should start cooking that crow dinner over the Thanksgiving break?) Carmen and Arturo visit, and are pretty down about all the evidence stacking up against Uli with Nuria’s testimony. Finally, Hector visits. He still believes in Ulises, and he wants Uli to be more cautious about sharing info since he thinks there’s a mole somewhere—Nuria knew too much info and he believes someone was feeding it to her. He also tells Uli that he has his people looking for Itzel (who Nuria claims was another woman seduced by Uli).

*The American slang for jail, hoosegow, is derived from the Spanish word, juzgado.

Dan Lays the Trap, and Este Falls Right In:
Rubio tells Danilo that Esteban would be the perfect solution to his money laundering problem. Dan is pleased that Rubio has brought this opportunity to him, but not pleased when Rubio admits he gave the original Ulises letter to Esteban—because Esteban doesn’t want Uli and Acacia to reunite. Dan flashes his gun to remind Rubio what happens to those who betray him. But he’s pleased enough with the potential money laundering opportunity, and the information Rubio gave him about Este and Cris being on the rocks, that he lets it go this time. The next day, Dan arranges to run into Este at his hotel, and appeals to the two forces driving Este at the moment—lust and greed. He tells Este about some money he’s about to come into, and wants to invest; he’d really like Esteban’s advice. Este’s eyes light up (greed). Then Dan sweetens the deal by inviting Este to come have dinner with him, Ale and ACACIA (no Cris). Este breaks into a smarmy smile (lust). When Dan later tells Ale about this upcoming foursome, she is shocked and not pleased.

Harsh Realities, and Painful Falsehoods:
Luisa has realized that she and Manuel are not meant to be, and that it’s not Acacia’s fault that Manuel has the hots for her. She decides to take Ale’s advice and make up with Acacia. Unfortunately, she decides to do that just as Manuel comes to deliver the fancy embroidered saddle he tried to gift Acacia long ago. Though Acacia is too sad about the death of Palomino (and other things) to ride, she accepts the gift with a smile and hug for Manuel, which Luisa sees. Luisa runs off, seen only by Rubio. He tells her that one day HE’LL be rich and powerful. “I know who I am, and what I’m capable of.” Luisa basically tells him to not set his sights too high like she did, since he’ll only be disappointed.

Luisa then runs into German, who has taken charge of keeping Rubio in line as he manages the hacienda workers. She wonders about how easy it is to get over someone you love, and if he’s managed to get over Ale. Then she mentions how strange Ale’s new life is—she doesn’t seem happy, and there’s that strange woman, Perla, living there. German is shocked. He then goes to see Lizi to tell her how Ale is living in the same house with her husband and her husband’s lover! “Every time I learn more things about Ale, I wonder how I could have loved someone like her.” (Ouch.) He tells Lizi how grateful he is that she came into his life, like a light. They smooch.

Juliana Lays the Trap, and Everyone Falls Right In:
Juliana and Norberto argue about where she’s been all day. He’s sure she went to see Andres (correct), and slaps her for it. Manuel walks in, sees the tail end of the slap, and hears Juliana begging Norberto not to hit her. He takes his father to the study, to calm him down. Meanwhile, Juliana puts the next part of her plan into action—she takes a small metal sculpture and adds a few more bruises and black eyes to the split lip Norb gave her. Meanwhile, Norb threatens to kill Andres in front of Manuel. Manuel tells Norb that although Acacia has ended things with Uli (AGAIN), he’s starting to reconsider pursuing her. He doesn’t want to end up in a horrible marriage like Norb and Juli have, where Acacia would never love him. Norb admits to Manuel that he was the puppet master behind the most recent Acacia-Uli split, using the intimate info Acacia gave Manuel and feeding it to Nuria, and Manuel better take advantage of it.

The next day, Juliana has the maid take a cell phone pic of her extremely battered face and then makes a beeline towards Andres’ hotel room. Being the gentleman and the doctor he is, he is horrified at the sight of her, takes her in, tends to her wounds, curses Norberto, urges Juli to make a police report, and tucks her into his bed when she “faints” from exhaustion. When he steps out, she takes the opportunity to snoop around his room and sniff his shirts.

The maid reports to Norberto about Juli’s bruises, cell phone pic, and early morning departure. He swears to her and Manuel that he didn’t do that much damage to Juli with his one slap. But his threats to kill her and Andres, and his desire to get his gun, don’t do much to convince them of his relative innocence.

Norb eventually takes his gun to Andres’ hotel room, and begins punching Andres and pulling his gun on people when he sees Juli on Andres’ bed. Carmen runs in and puts herself between Andres and Norb’s gun. Andres switches places with her and puts himself between her and the gun. They cling to each other in fear of their lives. Manuel and German run in and plead with their father to calm down. German takes Juli in his arms and says she is coming with him. Manuel convinces Norb to put the gun away and come home with him. Norb sweats, cries, and throws out threats about how Juli is HIS mujer. After the crazy Palacios family has left, Andres and Carmen breathe a sigh of relief. But it seems the near brush with death isn’t enough to bring Carmen to her senses. She HAD come to make up with Andres, but after what just happened, she’s more convinced than ever that Juli will remain a part of his life.  She leaves a devastated Andres. Juli’s accomplishments: Reconciliation with her sons- check; Shaming and blaming of Norberto- check; Andres and Carmen on the rocks- check; Victimhood status established- check! All in a day’s work.

Acacia Spills Some More Secrets:
Cris and Acacia go out of town to the McCormick factory to sign a new deal to sell their hacienda produce. Unfortunately, the contracts still have Esteban’s name as a signatory, as the administrator of the hacienda. Although Cris says that from now on they should only deal with her, it would take too much time, and cause a delay beyond the current harvest, to change the existing contract. Cris calls Esteban and asks him to travel out to McCormick the next day to sign the contract. He hems and haws, until her finds out that Acacia is there with Cris. He thought bubbles that Acacia will HAVE to speak to him there. (Jerk!) Rubio interrupts his plotting with some good news and some bad news. Good: Acacia broke up with Ulises (AGAIN). Bad: Acacia accepted the saddle gift from Manuel. Este tells Rubio about his trip the next day to see Acacia at McCormick. Rubio wonders if he’s ready to reveal to Cris (and everyone) the truth about his feelings for Acacia. Este says he has to raise/make the money he needs to take Acacia away first.

The next day at McCormick, he barely looks at Cris before she goes to get the McCormick reps. Then he immediately gets all up in Acacia’s face. He’s convinced she broke up with Uli because of him. She bursts his bubble by once again saying they can’t be because he’s her mother’s husband, and that he needs to be focused on his wife, Cristina, because she’s…PREGNANT with his child!

Avances: Cris makes it clear that she is done with Este. Acacia testifies against Uli!

Comments:
Vivi, this was an intoxicating, fresh burst of light and sunshine. You warmed our spirits, lifting the shroud of unhappiness cloaking many of our beloved characters.

"Harsh Realities, and Painful Falsehoods"; "But it seems the near brush with death isn’t enough to bring Carmen to her senses" and "Juli’s accomplishments: Reconciliation with her sons- check; Shaming and blaming of Norberto- check; Andres and Carmen on the rocks- check; Victimhood status established- check! All in a day’s work" were among my many favorites.

Juli's plan was rather a stroke of genius. It was very telling that Carmen and Andres tried to protect each other during Norberto's tirade. I fear Andres may fall under Juli's spell now that Carmen has left him "forever" (the second such declaration in as many days - Acacia forswearing Uli being the first).

After Norberto struck Juli, although Manuel likely did the right thing by getting Norberto out of the room quickly and quietly, he seemed rather nervous and more anxious to end the fighting rather than being outraged his father hit his mother. I kept thinking that it was lucky for Norberto that German was not there instead. I don't think he would have stood idly by and would have likely defended his mother with fists flying. As well he should have. Manuel lacks heart and strength and is truly his father's son.

And German kissing Lizzy made my heart sink. She seems like a nice girl. Truly. As you noted, German wonders “Every time I learn more things about Ale, I wonder how I could have loved someone like her.” How twisted this has all become. All this time, Ale, who loves him fiercely and totally, continues to suffer silently and utterly alone.

At least Hector is still championing Uli and working to find Itzel. As for all of those who are abandoning Uli, I desperately hope Uli survives and they are all proven wrong. Vivi and gringo, count me in on serving the crow dinner to one and all :)

When Cris called Este, he looked as though he were taking an impersonal business call. How cold. As you noted, he barely glanced at Cris the next day, he had eyes only for Acacia. Also, Ale looked as horrified as we are at the thought of Este and Acacia joining she and Dan for dinner. What a nauseating prospect. Ack.

Acacia had no business telling Este Cris was pregnant. In the previews, it seemed he was staring at Cris as they sat down to talk. Well, that would be the first time he's noticed her in quite a while. But what he is thinking and what he will do or not do remains to be seen.

This was fantastic amiga. Thank you.

My best wishes for a wonderful Thanksgiving to all. Enjoy and savor this special day with the ones you love most.

Diana

I don't follow this one much, so please pardon some silly questions:

What hold does Dan have over Ale that she would go back to him? It has to be more than "marry me or I will kill you."

What does Lizzy have to do with Dan?

In this episode, Carmen seems to have lost mucho IQ points since I last paid attention to her character. What part of treating facial lacerations and wounds apparently inflicted by a murderous psycho says "romantic tryst" to her? Or did I just miss that she was irrationally jealous?

oops,
the silly questions are from Chris in FL, sorry.

Diana- Always so wonderful to read one of your fab comments. Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

Chris in FL- Great to see you drop in. Lizi has nothing to do with Dan. Ale became Dan's fake girlfriend and then his wife because he threatened the lives of German and all the people she cares about. He then followed up his threats by hunting her down when she ran away, and killing two people on separate occasions right in front of her-- one of them her mother. And then to show how easily he could have German killed, he had his men drive German's truck off the road with his capataz in it. For a bit, everyone thought German had died, but this time round it was just the capataz. This was a warning to Ale, and only she and Dan know that.

Oh, and yes, Carmen has a huge jealousy streak. Plus, learning that German is Andres' son with Juli made her feel that Juli will always have a connection to Andres that will/could turn romantic again. She's also ticked off at everyone in El Soto because they all turned against her son, and wants nothing to do with any of them. She's lumping German in with everyone, because although he's not testifying against Uli and believes in his innocence, he has also said he won't testify on his behalf so as not to go against his family and friends. This rightly ticked Carmen off, considering how Uli helped German when his family kicked him out. But all in all, Carmen's operating on emotions right now, and not common sense.

Vivi, reading your comment about German, I'm thinking that I am with Carmen in that he should be testifying for Uli. He knows Uli's character, and that he would never be capable of what he is accused of. He was there for German when no one else was.

As it's Thanksgiving, I've been trying desperately to find something that is going right in this not quite but surely must be near rock bottom storyline.

The only bright light I see is Hector who is working behind the scenes to help German and Cris and who is the lone believer in Uli's innocence.

With all the relationships in shambles, are Juan Carlos and Elena our only happy couple?!

Diana

Diana- There's is no doubt that this is a dark tn. No silly comedic interludes to bring a smile to our faces either. But it's good and riveting.

Yes, Mr. Buttinsky is our bright spot right now. The outsider who can see the truth more clearly than our other characters, and doesn't just stand by and let things go unchallenged. Love that German and Cris have their show to look forward to, and that Hector's law team is working Uli's case.

Weren't JC and Elena adorable last episode getting all lovey dovey?

Exactly Vivi! I can't tear my eyes away and can never guess what will happen next (which given some of the dark events may be a blessing).

I do love the romantic element of TNs though. And yes, while JC and Elena are delightful together, I miss the amazing kisses and chemistry of German and Ale.

If we are really reaching, I suppose we could look at Memo and Perla. I was hoping broken Perla could find some sort of life after Danilo. But after what Memo did to Uli and the other prisoners, I just can't root for him...Of course, if he were to dispatch Danilo, I might be able to forgive him.

Other than that, I have nothing :)

Diana

I guess German and Lizi are a cute happy couple that we could root for. I just feel bad for Ale each time Lizi and German kiss and get closer.

Vivi, Terrific recap. Thanks for taking time away from your holiday celebration to craft us this yummy treat.

Happy to see Manuel turning a corner. But I hope he's not going to "try to love" Luisa now that he sees Acacia is a hopeless cause and that he doesn't want to wind up pitiful like his dad.

I'm giving Manuel a break on how he handled Norb slapping Juliana. Both boys grew up watching Norb be abusive to Juliana. German has yelled at his dad to stop and not treat Juliana that way, but he's never struck his father. This is pretty realistic. Thankfully, so far, Norb has always stopped with a slap. I remember a while back when Juliana angrily taunted him (saying something like "what are you going to do, rape me?") and Norb slapped her and then left the room. This is a two-sided sick relationship.

Danilo is smarter than I thought. So he's going to reel Este in on some legit pretext and only reveal it's money laundering once the deal is done.

Rubio had his wits about him when he lied to Danilo about why Este doesn't want Acacia with Uli, but I'm wondering if Danilo will pick up on the non-stepfatherly feelings at the private dinner.

Vivi, glad you pointed out the cute scene between JC and Elenita the other day. That was so sweet. I almost forgave them for turning on Uli because they’re so innocent they can’t imagine all the foulness swirling around their world.

I have to rant about Acacia (again). Acacia, okay, you think Uli was boinking Nuria. So what, the man still has a right to legal representation against fraud. How dare you tell Hector to drop his case, you stepdaddy kisser and momma betrayer! Hopefully, Uli won't judge you so harshly if/when the truth comes out.

"How dare you tell Hector to drop his case, you stepdaddy kisser and momma betrayer!"

Niecie, I could not have said it any better! Fantastic line...

Diana

Niecie- Ditto what Diana said. Happy Thanksgiving, amiga!

Thanks, Vivi, for that excellent retelling. I was not able to watch this episode. Wow...the sky continues to darken as the baddies continue to weave their wicked webs. Loved all the comments, too. Happy Thanksgiving, all.

I am amazed at the lengths Juli is willing to go to inner quest to snare Andres. Yikes. She is a major manipulator. Dandiablo knows all about men and lust so he will surely see Este's obsession with Ack.

I am very relieved that Hector is hanging in there to protect Uli, Chris, Ack, German from the evil forces closing in on them. His investigators could find out all kinds of things about the bad guys. Hector..a heck of a good guy..

Vivi, I can tell it's you without looking for the signature. Well done.

"But his threats to kill her and Andres, and his desire to get his gun, don’t do much to convince them of his relative innocence."

Niecie this is awesome. "How dare you tell Hector to drop his case, you stepdaddy kisser and momma betrayer!"

Ahhhhhhhhrrggg, I cannot wait till someone bitch slaps Norberto.

I hate her but Juli is crazy clever.

If I were Carmen I'd run and not leave a forwarding address. That whole family is bonkers including anyone associated toxic.

I feel sorry for Lizzy.

Oh, German, German it gets better you don't know the half of it.

Not sure if Hector believes Uli's story blindly but he does have a decent nose and smells something fishy.

Acacia is trying to wildly fight jumping into Esteban's arms again and in the flurry of punches last night, used her roundhouse with the pregnancy disclosure. She better hope it works cause she got nothing more.

Susanlynn and Tofie- Thanks for dropping in ladies. Hope you're having a great holiday!

Tofie- German's mind will explode when he finally learns the whole crazy, sordid background of Dan and Ale. You don't know the half of it buddy! I do think he'll feel guilty about judging Ale so harshly when he has the full picture.

Susanlynn- Yeah, I think Dan will be able to pick up on Este and Acacia' s attraction if he sees them together, and will use it to his advantage.

Niecie...I ,too, enjoyed "step daddy kisser and momma betrayer. ". I remember a telenovela in which the beautiful Marcelo Córdoba (Alonso here) was a tialoving abuelokiller.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I'm thankful for Germán in a black shirt! Seriously though I liked seeing him take the reigns of La Benavente while Cris was gone.

I don't even know what to say about Juliana. She sure knows how to play the victim card.

I actually do hope that when Germán learns the truth about Ale that he will be asking her for forgiveness. And I wish Carmen will see that Germán is a good person.

Acacia had to go and spill the frijoles. I'm curious to see Esteloco's reaction.

Hey TF! Happy Thanksgiving to you too. ITA. It was nice to see German back working on a ranch, large and in charge, and putting Rubio in his place about the proper way to treat workers.

Yes, Vivi. I wonder if Cris told Germán something about Rubio's attitude or if he saw it for himself. German is a hard working guy in everything that he does. It's nice to see that Cris helping him right now, giving him a place to live etc.

Vivi---A BIG thank you for taking time out of what I know is a busy holiday. A big holiday but still the La Malquerida addiction will not go away so your recap today is much appreciated.
Vivi---One of your early lines stood out for me. She/Acacia really, really means it this time
Yeah right, Acacia's mind is made up and she means it. LOL

The difference here is that Maricruz had no smarts, then she got some and finally lost her smarts or most of them anyway. I don't think that Acacia knows what smarts are, she's never had them.

Now it's Cris---I know that it's Thanksgiving and I am being mean but I am so tired of hearing that you Ulises hurt our spoiled, pampered Acacia and made her cry.
BASTA!!! STOP IT!!! No more of that OK???

Vivi---You cracked me up with it's visiting hours in the local hoosegow. I laughed and laughed. Being an American and born here I know that slang word but for someone trying to learn English, words like hoosegow must drive them crazy. English can throw people for a loop sometimes. I was
talking to a man from Switzerland
who had come here some time ago. He said that one of the very first things he saw when he got off of the boat was a sign that said hot dogs 25 cents. He knew a little English from studying in Switzerland. He told me that he knew that hot meant don't touch it
you will get burned and that dog was an animal, so was hot dog a hot animal? He was very confused he told me. Well hoosegow??? I'm still laughing.

Yes Diana, the crow dinner will be a big one and extra help will definitely be needed.

Oh no! Now that Manuel realizes that Acacia is a lost cause will Luisa be in his sights? I hope not. Poor Acacia? NO! Poor Luisa.

Niecie---How dare you to tell Hector to drop his case you step daddy kisser and momma betrayer.
That will be the top line today Niecie, I'm sure of it. You hit the jackpot with it.

NO!!! Acacia and Estebone, Alejandra and the devil together for dinner.

Looks like no jury trial. What is it, everybody gives their statements and then a judge decides? What kind of trial is that? I mean it looks like which ever side brings in the most liars
wins. QUE? Hector had better have some strong evidence on behalf of Ulises because of all of the liars stacked up against him, he'll need it.

Must see tv tonight.
the gringo

Let's hope that Hector'sv investigators uncover some information that puts Hectir on the right path to figuring out who is behind all the evil doing.

Gringo- I hope that you're having a fantastic Thanksgiving! I'm all stuffed, cozy, and ready for another installment of our dark, crazy telenovela. :)

Vivi, thanks for another fantastic recap. Sorry I am so late to comment, but I had to work today. I really enjoyed reading it while working;your recap brought a smile to my face.

I agree with everyone that is tired of Acacia. And she did not have a right to tell Hector to forget about Uli's case. Hector took it upon himself to help Uli, and like Hector said the other day, he is a pretty good judge of character, and he believes Uli is telling the truth. When Hector is able to prove Uli's innocence I DO NOT want him running to Acacia's side. She does not deserve him. She breaks up and gets back together with him like she changes lip gloss. Uli deserves someone better.

I too miss seeing BigSexy and Ale together. I really hope they have a future together and that he understands why Ale did what she did.

Juli is also getting on my last nerve. I fear that Andres will fall into her trap. Andres is a good guy, and if he thinks that he's lost Carmen for good he might get in trouble and look to Juli for comfort.

Thanks again Vivi & Feliz Dia de dar Gracias!

AuntyAnn- Thanks for the comment! I'm glad you were able to read the recap at work. I hope you were able to relax after work and get some down time soon.

I really, really hope Andres stays as far away from Juli as possible.
