TELEMUNDO Y MÁS: REINA DE CORAZONES -- PAGE TWO -- Week of November 10, 2014
Labels: reina-corazones, telemundo
¡Hasta mañana!
For future reference, the light blue font (indicating the cut scenes) is difficult to read in both Firefox and IE. I have early stage cataracts so maybe they are the culprit.
Vaya! I must be having a memory lapse, or else I just cannot keep up with the plot. Doesn’t Christian still have the 4th diamond? Or did someone take it from him?
Eeewww! I hate that Stefy is carrying Javier’s child. That's just a big bowl of wrong!
My LOL moment last night --- (Stefy) can explain – she is his sister in law because she is married to his brother, she is his mother in law because she is with ORBO and she is his ex because …
If she marries ORBO, would that make her his stepmother?
Who is the actor that is Mauro Montalbán (MM)? I’ve not seen him before.
Of course, as always, your writing is sharp and marked by your dry wit. I particularly liked:
"There is no lack of evil women in Vic's house."
"How refreshing -- the principals are sharing information."
and this spot-on description of MM:
"He looks like the smarmy host of a reality show."
Doris, I can't keep track of the diamonds either. I thought the CIA still had one, but then a few days ago I heard the Cobra boast that she had all four of them. Frankly, I find the traveling diamonds the least interesting of all the plotlines now in play.
Juanjo's undies had a bright floral motif. I didn't catch a glimpse of his socks, but I feel quite confident that they matched.
So Estefi is Victor's madrastra (stepmother), cuñada (sister-in-law), and mujer (wife). What a woman!
Three vs Four diamonds. I don't think Cobra said that she had all four. Victor said that and maybe Cobra led him to believe that. At some time, however, either the writers got their act together or we missed something but Victor now knows that the CIA has one of the diamonds. The one that Lopez gave to his other girlfriend who ended up dead but not searched since the diamond was in her underwear.
I thought Cobra took three red diamonds from the safe, but that was last week, and I cannot remember.
Do we want to wear diamond (er... rhinestone) tiaras to the party in honor of BSC Stefy's crown?
thanks so much Jean!
doris-
Mauro Montalbán is played by Juan Pablo Gamboa.
gran final is 1 dec 14, cyber Monday, after black Friday.
Who do we think Victor is going to try the Proyecto Hoopiter drug on? ORBO seems like a likely candidate. I'm sure he would like to try it on Reina again but he may not have access to her the way he does to ORBO.
Do we think FELS was sincere when he told Navier and Reina that he didn't really agree with Estefi's plan to destroy Navier? FELS of all people should have known that his conversation with Estefi was probably being recorded.
I wish I could remember who commented yesterday that this is a satire. Brilliant comment! I’ve been thinking that it’s highly stylized and a bit wink-wink, tongue-in-cheek, but “satire” is exactly the right word.
All the super powers in this show crack me up. This time I love the lie detector that can detect if something is true, but it didn’t happen to the person telling it. What a hoot! And of course, all along Navier and others having been trained to tell when someone is lying… too funny. Research tells us nobody can do that, but, by golly, our CIA folks magically can.
This is the first time, I think, that I’ve loved an antigonista. I get a huge kick out of Stefi. It’s also fun to watch how bendy she is. Remember way back in the beginning when she was stealing the diamante rojo from the exhibit (or was that an auction?) and she had to crawl over, under, and around all those little security light beams? That was one of my favorite scenes, so campy.
I think the writers have carte blanche with Picasso because, like the city of LA, there's no there there. We have never had a reliable sense of who this character is. Any guess about his sincerity has a 50% chance of being correct.
Please keep those evil drugs from ORBO. He's had enough mind control to last several lifetimes already!
Doris: "That's just a big bowl of wrong!" Ha! How many situations can we apply that to?
So, are we to believe Victor has at long last given up on getting Reina back? Instead of asking her to come back for more blackmail sex, he asked her to get the red diamond. He also said some words to the effect that his plan to separate them had failed, or at least that's how I interpreted it.
This Hoopiter thing is confusing. So we saw a flashback of Victor pouring something in Reina's drink, presumably Hoopiter Juice. But the same (or different quantities? batches?) stuff sent Moto to the booby hatch. Reina, instead, coolly works out a plan to take down Victor and is only foiled on her wedding day by Greta stealing the evidence. Huh?
Before it gets too late, I want to chime in and thank you for the double-trouble episode recap.
I'm soooo tired of new characters dropped in at the last minute. It takes time to invest ourselves in their personalities, be they baddies or goodies.
So Victor is all a bad-ass guy with a huge chemical drug operation going and for eight years he's been ..... aackk .... just too much to assimilate. (I wonder if it's FDA regulated, hmm. It looks like a pretty well appointed laboratory, not something being operated in a warehouse.)
It really too bad they cut out so much of the Laz/Moto scenes and give us so much of the Juanjo/Susana. Laz/Moto are growing closer and closer it's been charming to watch.
And, we have FPGELS back on the scene. How *will* he end up? How is he going to be on Stefi's side and manage to not destroy Javier.
But, can't wait for tonight's development. See you all at the Reinamaniac's Las Vegas Casino Bar afterwards.
Dear Reinamaniacs:
Because smushed episodes are no fun to watch and are miserable to recap, we're going to try something different. Jean, Mauricio and I (and I hope that Caroline will be okay with this too) have decided to recap one Mexican episode every day until the end of the novela. That means that what I write tonight (episode 121) will only cover part of the material that Telemundo airs on November 13. Have no fear -- one of us will pick up with episode 122 on Friday, November 14.
We're hoping to put the joy back in watching, recapping, reading about and chatting about this wonderful, campy, spoofy telenovela -- the joy that Telemundo has unaccountably taken away from its viewing audience.
Thursday, Part 1
Living room, De Rosas Mansion
Estefanía has an antidote that will keep the Cobra from miscarrying -- all she has to do is give back ALL her jewels. The Cobra, realizing she is cornered, admits the jewels are hidden in the mansion. "Show me!" orders Estefi.
Esmeeth's Apartment
Navier promises Reina that Estefi will get what she deserves, even if that means the child she is carrying is born in prison or if Estefi ends up six feet under.
Clara and Asunción come back from an afternoon at the movies. Reina gives her daughter a kiss and asks how the movie was. Clara liked the way it turned out: the bad guys ended up very badly and the good guys had a very happy ending. Their story should end like that, smiles Navier.
But will it? Navier gets a text-bubble: Mauro Montalban (MM) is in Las Vegas. Uh oh.
Cobra, still writhing in pain, has managed to get as far as Victor's study. Estefi will have to do the legwork from here. She points: "The jewels are there, behind the bar."
Esmeeth's office, CIA
When Picasso enters the office, Esmeeth hastily gathers up her papers and stashes them out of sight. He furrows his brow -- doesn't she trust him? [sheesh!] She tells him she already has a boss and now she also has a supervisor. A supervisor? Yes, Mauro Maldonado is in town. "He's a difficult and dangerous man," says Picasso.
The Study
The Cobra moans is pain. Stefi is panting as she pulls out a small coffer from a recess in the wall. Sighing almost orgasmically, she takes out the crown and puts it on her head. She pulls a small bottle out of her cleavage -- the antidote for the abortifacient she gave her earlier. "Take ten drops of this."
Cobra downs the contents quickly. By the time Estefi realizes that the red diamonds aren't in the coffer, it is too late. [Psycho Cobra 1, BSC Estefi 0].
Chez Esmeeth
Asunción is alarmed when the doorbell rings. It's awfully late for a visit. Reina sees Victor through the peephole and lets him in [amid lots of percussion, as if we couldn't guess that he is up to no good].
Moto's Apartment
Navier got Moto's message. He knows she's the only one who can tell him everything about Mauro. He can't trust what Picasso says and Esmeeth is only telling him half the story. "Please, Jackie, tell me everything you know." Moto says she knows too much -- and that could be dangerous for him and deadly for her.
Reina's Old House
Juanjo and Susana, now back together, are sipping red wine at the kitchen table. Someone disturbs their quiet pleasure by banging insistently on the door. Juanjo finally goes to see who it is -- it might be Connie (they left her with both kids). But it's Yolanda. She looks scared. "Juanjo, I need your help -- please!"
Moto's place
Moto tells Navier about Project Jupiter. (Laz is there too and hears everything. He's not one of the three -- Esmeeth, Navier and Moto -- but he is just so darn cute and trustworthy that nobody thinks of excluding him.) The CIA, under Mauro's direction, was experimenting with a drug to increase endurance and strength, but its ghastly side effects soon became evident. Much to MM's fury, the CIA cancelled the project and sent MM to the Washington office (which, in this context, is like being sent to, say Fargo -- although at other times it sounds like, well, the Washington office).
Chez Esmeeth
"Did you get the diamond for me?" Victor asks Reina. She answers as Navier has instructed -- She needs more time. What Reina doesn't know is that Victor has a hidden agenda for his visit. He contrives to get Reina to turn away for a moment -- "Why don't you ask your mother to have a cup of coffee with us?" -- and then he puts some drops in Asunción's coffee cup. (Why is anyone leaving open beverage containers around this man? Don't they hear the spooky notes in the background?)
Asunción returns to the living room with Reina. She apologizes to Victor. She thought they wanted to talk privately. "Have a seat," says Victor amiably. "Let's schmooze."
Back at the De Rosas Mansion, Cobra learns there's a price for fooling the Queen of Diamonds. "Where are the rest of my jewels?" "I don't know -- I thought they were all together," says Cobra sweetly. Estefi swats her across the face so hard that Cobra falls back on the couch. "I'm going to kill you!" screams Estefi as she kneels on the couch and gets her rival in a distinctly non-maternal strangle hold. "Where are the rest of my jewels?" she shrieks. ORBO walks in and pulls Estefi away. "My God, you're both pregnant!" Thanks to him, Cobra gets to hiss another day.
Reina's Old House
"They're threatening me," Yolanda tells Juanjo. Who? Some Cobra chick and Estefanía. Whoa! Juanjo didn't even know Estefi was back. Susana tells him she's not only back, she's living at the Mansion with the resuscitated Big O.
Juanjo is going to talk to Estefi immediately! Yolanda tries to hold him back. "That woman is scary!" But he is decided to face the woman who tried to kill him. Susana follows Juanjo. Yolanda is left alone, which is pretty scary too.
Living Room, De Rosas Mansion
Estefi is still seething. ORBO examines the crown. "It must be worth a fortune," he says, "enough to get away from here and start a new life." But that's not what BSC Estefi is after -- she wants Navier! ORBO warns her she may be making a fatal mistake. Love can be a very dangerous thing!
Chez Moto
Moto continues her discourse on Project Jupiter. Mauro Maldonado -- a gifted, but frustrated physician -- was obsessed with the project. He wanted to bring in private investors. The CIA wouldn't allow it. She explains that the drug acts on the nervous system. When she was taking it, it made her hallucinate. She became delirious. She didn't know who she was. It was, in short, a living hell...
Chez Esmeeth
Asunción trustingly drinks the adulterated coffee.
"I hope some day my Gregorio forgives me," she says wistfully. She starts to get up, but sits back down quickly, clutching her head. ¡Mi cabeza, mi cabeza! Then she faints. Mamá! cries Reina.
Victor quickly takes charge. He tells Reina to get Izzy -- he can call a doctor. As soon as Reina steps away to do so, Victor deftly injects something into Asunción's arm. When Reina comes back, he says Asunción's pulse is normal. He calls for alcohol, holds it under her nose, and she comes to. "You scared me, mom. What happened to you?" Asunción stares at Reina. "Who are you?"
Evening in the CIA
Esmeeth refuses Picasso's offer of a lift home. He tries a lot of sweet talk, but his delivery sucks. Neither the recapper nor Esmeeth is convinced of his sincerity. Esmeeth gets down to essentials: What does Estefanía plan to do to Navier?
Reina's Old House
"What did you say?" At the sound of Estefanía's words, Yolanda is instantly awake and terrified. Nothing! She said nothing! [Novela negra aficionados immediately take note of Estefi's long black gloves.]
"You didn't say that I gave you a video for Victor?" No, Yolanda didn't say that -- or the other things. Estefi can't take any risks. She walks behind the girl and holds a [presumably chloroformed] handkerchief over her mouth.
-- We get a fleeting scene of Navier coming home and pulling out his gun when he senses the presence of an intruder. It is smug Mauro Montalban.
Yolanda's head falls back. Estefi addresses a BSC monologue to the unconscious girl. "You worked for me so long and you never learned that betrayal is paid for in blood... you're so young, so lovely... you shouldn't have made me do this... it hurts me to have to do this..." Estefi holds Yoli's neck and caresses her and rocks her like one of her dolls.
-- It IS Navier's gun and he's definitely not glad to see Mauro Montalban. MM [looking very "W"] congratulates Navier for being so alert. "I'm always alert and I'm always armed," says the Dragon.
While back in Crazyville, Estefi tells Yolanda that Reina isn't the only reina or the only one who can be a mother -- she's not even the best COSTURERA. Because I'm the best! She pulls out a hooked needle and suture and takes hold of Yolanda's lips. "You asked for it, Yolanda! Why did you have to open your mouth? Why did you have to tell my secrets?"
She rants and sews. She has to get rid of Reina -- and anyone who stands in her way has to go too. Now Yolanda won't tell her secrets to anyone.
Navier asks MM why he came to see him at home after hours. What does he want? He is certainly not a friend. MM [is from the government and he] wants to HELP him. Washington is demanding results! Navier didn't ask for help; he's already working flat out on the List of 179 and getting results. Ah, the List -- the one Navier and his mother are on. Navier sets MM straight -- This isn't personal! He is working to save the lives of the agents! Is MM here to save the agents -- or to save himself?
Chez Esmeeth
"It's me -- Reina!" But under the influence of the evil drug, all Asunción sees are three demonic souls about to attack her. She cowers and tells them not to come near her. "She's delirious," says Victor. When the Reina demon approaches her, Asunción punches her in the face. Hard.
Esmeeth's Office
Picasso tells Esmeeth he doesn't know what Estefi is planning. Would he tell her if he knew? His sister is very important to him, he says, but he can't protect a person who has crossed all those lines...
Reina's Old House
Estefi cradles Yolanda's head in her lap and caresses it. She hopes Yoli finds peace in the next life. Yolanda moans. Estefi tightens a scarf around the girl's neck and tells her to be quiet. (It looks like one suture is already in place.) Estefi wonders if her pregnancy has made her more sensitive. She feels Yolanda's pain. Oh well. Time to finish up.
Chez Esmeeth
Reina ices her face where her mother walloped her. Dr. Victor declares that Asunción has had a psychotic break. They should keep her away from Clara. Asunción is now back to reality but she remembers nothing of what has just happened. Izzy has witnessed the whole thing. He frowns.
Navier rubs MM's nose in it a little (as he is wont to do). He says he knows Mauro's been relegated to a desk job in the last few years. MM says he's ready to get back in the field and work 'codo a codo' (elbow to elbow) with the team to bring down the person responsible for the List. "That person has a name," says Navier. "Victor De Rosas."
Chez Esmeeth
Victor seems to notice Izzy's unease. "You've changed," he says. Then he turns to Reina and tells her not to worry -- her mother will be fine.
Living Room, De Rosas Mansion
The Cobra tells Juanjo and Susana they can wait all night for Estefi if they want, but a pregnant snake needs her rest.
ORBO walks into the room. Susana stares at him. "It's you!" "Yes, I'm Octavio De Rosas."
Chez Moto
Moto remembers that place, the injections... Laz reassures her. It won't happen again, he says. Not to her or to anyone. She doesn't want to be alone tonight -- she's not talking about passion but companionship. She needs someone to take care of her, to protect her. And who better than Laz?
Living Room, De Rosas Mansion
ORBO admits he was at the manicomio in Florida, but he doesn't want to talk about it. What matter is that now he is back. Susana can't believe that Estefanía is at large after killing all those people. [Neither can we, honey, neither can we.] "It was self-defense," says ORBO. Juanjo objects. "That's not true -- she tried to kill me!"
Estefanía calls someone (MM? Vic? Picasso?) and reports that the job is done and she's back in the casino.
Morning, CIA
Navier tells Esmeeth about MM's visit the night before. She tells him about Victor's visit to her apartment and Asunción's episode. "She hit Reina?" She did, but Reina is okay. It wasn't serious. She was just scared. Does Esmeeth think Victor had something to do with it? Of course! When something bad happens, he's always involved. "He or Estefanía," says Navier. "They're two of a kind -- criminals, killers. Too bad they're not a couple. Then they'd leave me and Reina alone."
Juanjo and Susana head back home after a fruitless night waiting for Estefi. They open the door and see Yolanda sitting in the chair, apparently asleep. When they get close, they see she is dead and her lips are sutured shut. Gasp!!!!
Reina describes Asunción's episode to Moto. Moto recognizes the symptoms -- she has experienced them herself.
Victor is at the secret lab when a subject flatlines. Weirdly, Victor pulls some electrodes off the man's head and bellows for the staff. Two people in scrubs amble up with a crash cart.
Navier and Esmeeth are in the CIA office. He shows her Plan Red Diamond for tonight. "That man deserves to die in prison," says Esmeeth. If they could manage to trap him with the red diamond... "That's what we need -- proof," agrees Esmeeth.
Faux O's Bedroom in the DeRosas Mansion
ORBO takes the manilla envelope from a pocket behind one of his Sara paintings.
He has a flashback: Faux O gives him an envelope. If Navier dies, it will almost certainly be by Victor's hand. Here is the proof that will lock up Victor and a very bad woman for the rest of their lives.
"Why did you give it to me?" "Because I know you're a good man and you will do the right thing. I even envy you for that -- your noble spirit is something that no plastic surgeon could ever offer me."
CIA Office
Navier says he's sure they'll get the proof they need. He's going to call Reina to tell her what she has to do.
Lab
Victor doesn't like the way things are going. He shouts at the staff to hurry up! They can't let another one die!
CIA Office
Esmeeth beams with pride at Navier's impeccable work. He says they shouldn't get ahead of themselves. MM wants results -- or at least that's what he says. Esmeeth doesn't believe him.
She gets a call from ORBO. "Sara -- I need to talk to you and it's urgent."
Victor paces and scowls as things go sour at the bedside. "I'm the one who decides who lives and who dies!"
Esmeeth puts the phone on speaker. Does he want her to come there or should they meet somewhere else? He wants to see her away from the house. Esmeeth agrees and texts him the address. He'll be there, says ORBO.
Navier says he'll coordinate everything. He wants the operation carried out today so they can put an end to all this once and for all.
He gets a call from Juanjo. "How are you?" As he listens, his face grows somber.
Victor pushes the attending physician into another room and tells the man to sit down. "It's a shame," he says, "that after all these years, you're so useless." He goes for the neck (does he use his pulsera?). The man is dead.
ORBO manages to tuck the envelope behind another canvas just before Estefanía enters the bedroom. He tells her that Juanjo and Susana stopped by the night before. They were very angry with her. "Juanjo says you tried to kill him." Estefi blithely admits that is true. It was Juanjo who helped Navier lock her up. ORBO looks at her closely. She is merciless -- Doesn't she feel pity for anyone? "For me! I feel sorry for me, for all my losses -- to me, the others don't exist."
And so ends Episode 121. Come back tomorrow for Episode 122 (the second half of Thursday's show)!
Woo-Hee! I didn't make it to the Bar. After this episode, I might have had an upset tummy just from watching.
So Poor Dancing Yoli is out of JJ's life forever. RIP Yoli.
What's this about an attending doc dead? I'll have to add him to the Body Count.
Thanks so much, NovelaMaven!! This is sooooo much better for reader and recapper. Two episodes, much less three, are too much to really comment on and is waaaay too much to recap. You showed the deleted scenes, too.(Curse you Telemundo!)
Superb recap! There was lots of delicious snark but I particularly liked:
MM [is from the government and he] wants to HELP him.
[Psycho Cobra 1, BSC Estefi 0].
[Laz] is not one of the three -- Esmeeth, Navier and Moto -- but he is just so darn cute and trustworthy that nobody thinks of excluding him.)
[Novela negra aficionados immediately take note of Estefi's long black gloves.]
So...does this mean Stefi was the one who killed Rocky and Reina's uncle too?
Wouldn't anyone who knows Victor the way Reina does be ultra suspicious when he shows up just to have coffee and chat and especially to have a chat with Asunción from whom he has never hid his dislike?
I suppose the death of the guinea pigs in Vic's lab means that they will need new ones and for sure Vic is going to combine business and pleasure and grab some of our characters. Maybe this will push Izzy over the edge in his loyalty to Vic.
Vivi It seems like Estefi must have been the lip sewer (unless there is more than one - do the bad guys offer a class on how to do that?) but that raises a lot of questions.
Poor fish-lips Yoli. She almost made it to the end of the novela.
Oh my, so now we know who the cross-stitching costurera is! I never would have guessed, in a million years!!
The scenes with Cobra and Estefy were perversely fun to watch. The actresses looked like they were having fun with it, especially Estefy. ;-)
Question about the recapping proposal --- does this mean the proposed recap schedule will finish after the broadcast ending? (If so, this would give me more time to track down a tiara/crown to wear for the Gran Fin)
Anita and Vivi -- I'm so glad you approve of our CHAPTER A DAY experiment.
Doris -- Yes, it DOES mean we will still be recapping after the broadcast ending! And yes, you will have extra time find that perfect tiara for the end of novela bash!
I expect a bit of confusion from now on, especially on the part of occasional commenters. But we'll repeat the explanation as often as necessary. Basically, we've declared our independence from the tijeras at Telemundo.
As long as we number our episodes, we should be okay -- o no es así?
"What's this about an attending doc dead?"
That was the doc who seemed to be in charge of the experimental subjects in the lab and/or presumably led the failed efforts to resuscitate the poor soul who coded. (He goes on the list too, I guess.)
Vivi,
"So...does this mean Stefi was the one who killed Rocky and Reina's uncle too?"
I'm betting yes. Even though I was really startled by the revelation, in hindsight it makes sense ... in a crazy, senseless way, of course. Can we imagine any of our other villains taking -- and giving -- such pains?
Jean,
I wasn't surprised that Reina let Victor in the apartment. She was in the process of negotiating with him (As you recall, she had "promised" to get him the red diamond). But she should have known better than to let him near any edibles or potables:)
thankyou for the wonderful recap NovelaMaven!
hmm, I won't be able to watch the Mexican episodes, did you want to change your spoiler policy to not have comments on anything not recapped?
and I put together a little Telemundo schedule so I won't get lost.

I've named Victor's lab, the Human Memory Loss Laboratory for purposes of the Body Count. Feel free to use it in recaps, hehe.
Wouldn't you think Victor would be curious about these dead bodies with their lips sewn shut? It's getting closer to home now. You'd think he'd put his best doctors and thugs on the trail, since the Las Vegas Office of the CIA can't get a bead on the perp.
Stefi is just too over the top for me now. How is FELS going to feel when he finds out his half-sister is the REAL costurera and Rocky was her first victim.
She arrived at the bridal shop soon after Rocky was found. I need to go back and see if there are any signals in her reactions that might indicate she did it. (OTOH, maybe Catherine Siachoque didn't know at that time she was going to be The Costurera.)

Mauricio's Reinamaniacs site is handy because I can watch on my iPad. It can be carried from room -to-room without having to stop the DVR and then turn the TV on in another room, pull up the DVR, blahblahblah
Deb -- Ay! It's a shame you can't see the Mexican episodes!
I hope you'll come along for the ride anyway -- the scenes that Telemundo is cutting are often the ones that allow the audience to make sense of the extremely complicated and convoluted plot.
I know it's going to make commenting tricky and I feel bad about that.
Honestly, this is just an experiment born out of frustration -- this lovely little novela is out there, whole and healthy and these fools at Telemundo are airing a mutilated, almost unwatchable version.
I printed out your schedule and Telemundo’s schedule and now I’m all set.
Could somebody give Mauricio’s Reinamaniacs site link again? Watching it on my iPad does sound like the way to go. Good idea! And then I’ll be on the right schedule to comment..
Estefi seems to be all alone with nary a Lopez in sight. Who does she still consider an ally? The obvious possibilities are Mauro Montalban and Picasso...
... or if Picasso is mixed up with Montalban who is mixed up with Victor...
Me duele la cabeza :)
Here is Mauricio's blog:
http://reinamaniacs.blogspot.com
I'm so glad you like the idea and will be along for the ride!
Terrific recap, NovelaMaven! Your snark is 150 proof!
Well, the thing with Montalban is confusing (OT: Am I the only one old enough to have thought of Ricardo?). So, he's a doctor and ALSO a CIA big wig, at least a big enough wig to be put in charge of the Las Vegas office? That seems very odd to me.
The character development of Estefy has been very interesting. At the beginning we hated her because she lied to Reina and Nicolás, telling each the other had stood them up.
Then we kind of liked her because of what Victor did to her about Greta. And she was 100% behind Greta and Laz being together. And she was funny in her red diamond capers.
But for weeks now she's been a complete sociopath, or is it psychopath? Did I read wrong? She told ORBO that she wanted Navier. I thought she only wanted to kill him these days. That sounds like she's harboring a fantasy that he'll forgive her and live happily ever after with her and the rape baby.
Anyway, it's been a sweet ride with the wonderful recappers and commenters here. I really don't want it to come to an end.
A resounding "NO" at my end.
The plane, Boss! The plane!
MM looks like someone whose face is begging to have a cream pie smooshed into it. Ah, where's Soupy Sales when we need him?
And who's old enough to remember HIM???
Parte Uno (cut scenes from the US broadcast in italics thus)
Yoli’s body is loaded on a stretcher. Navier is there with Juanjo. He notes that Yoli’s lips were sewn shut in the same manner as Old Nimoy’s nephew and Rocky. “I think we’re dealing with the same killer,” he deduces brilliantly. JJ tells him that Yoli came to see him because she was afraid of Estefi and the Cobra. She told him that she knew things. Dra Moto arrives. In comes the Worst Cop in Las Vegas (TWCILV), Christián Palacios, who announces that he is in charge of the investigation. Navier whispers to Moto that he doesn’t know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.
Cobra is waiting for Vic when he returns to his room. She tells him something very serious happened the previous night – Estefi almost caused her to lose her baby. She says that Estefi put something in her orange juice that caused her terrible abdominal pain and wouldn’t give her the antidote until she told Estefi where her jewels were hidden. Victor focuses on the most important part right away, “and you told her?” “Yes,” replies Cobra, “but she only got part of them back. I still have the three red diamonds.”
MM greets FELS when he comes into the one office that everyone shares at the CIA. FELS asks why he has come to Las Vegas. MM replies that he was sent. Some bad things are happening here and he has come to fix them up. “Don’t kid a kidder,” says FELS, “you don’t ever come to fix anything, you just make it worse.” MM tells FELS that Navier is very smart but if he messes up, MM is here to take his place.
Navier tells Christián that the CIA is involved in this investigation. One of their agents was killed in the same manner. They will have to work together. Susana and Connie lament about the horror of finding a dead body. Meanwhile TWCILV has found out that Juanjo was the last person to see the victim alive and therefore he is the obvious suspect.
Victor warns Estefi that if anything happens to his son, he won’t have mercy on her. Estefi marvels at the paternal instinct Cobra’s baby has instilled in Victor, something that he lacked with his other children. Vic responds that he loved and loves his children. Estefi claims that isn’t true. While Vic is here living large, her daughter is shut up somewhere, “muerto en vida.” Victor shushes her but too late. As so frequently happens when secrets on novelas are discussed in large open rooms, someone, in this case, Cobra, is listening.
Esmeeth comes home and asks Reina how Asunción is. Reina says that she is resting but is ok. Esmeeth tells Reina that she understands that Reina is going to give Vic the red diamond. Reina asks if she thinks the plan will work. Esmeeth hopes so but you never know with Vic. Esmeeth then tells Reina about Yoli’s murder. The doorbell rings. Esmeeth says that it’s ORBO. She asked him to meet her here. Reina goes into the other room. “Sara, it’s nice to see you again,” ORBO says to Esmeeth.
Estefi continues to complain about Greta’s situation to Victor. Vic says that it is better than prison. They did the best they could. He saved her . Cobra is still listening and, in fact, walks across the room right in Victor’s line of sight but he apparently doesn’t see her. Estefi warns Victor not to let Cobra mess with her or she is capable of cutting her into pieces. Vic laughs and says that Estefi exaggerates. Estefi’s phone rings and we see her face change. “¿Yolanda?” she says, “¿Qué pasó?”
Parte Dos
Moto tells Navier that the CIA will do the autopsy of Yoli even though the police are in charge of the case. [Can’t the CIA just tell the local yokels on the police to get lost? That’s what Esmeeth used to do.] Christián tells Juanjo that he is being detained for questioning. He was the last person to see the victim alive. Susana comes in and says that Juanjo is innocent. Christián replies that if that is true, he has nothing to worry about. Navier tells Christián that he is wasting his time. He should be looking for the real killer. Christián replies that he is just doing his job [and so he is - TWCILV always arrests the wrong suspect] and Navier should do his job. Nav says that is what he will do. Navier tells JJ that he will get him a lawyer. JJ is handcuffed and taken away. Susana rounds up Connie and they both leave for the police station to support JJ.
Moto tells Navier that she saw Asunción at Reina’s place. She will wait for the test results but she has bad feeling about what happened to Asunción.
”Murdered with her lips sewn shut?” says Victor to Estefi, “How horrible! And you didn’t know about this? Estefi replies that of course she didn’t know about it. “Poor Yolanda,” sighs Estefi, “it was horrible what was done to her.” Vic tells her not to lie. Estefi is indignant – she isn’t lying. “Yolanda was…,” she says, feigning concern. “Yolanda was the person who gave me the list of 179 agents,” says Vic. “Ah Estefi, I knew you were cable of killing but I never imagined that you were capable of sewing your victim’s mouth shut. It’s really a surprise.” [It would appear from this conversation that the call Estefi made in yesterday’s episode saying that she had done the job was not to Victor since there would be no point in his pretending to be surprised that she killed someone this way. That leaves FELS and MM or someone else…?]
Esmeeth is telling ORBO that she is investigating Faux O, “que usted me habló”. ORBO tells her not to use the formal “usted” with him. He replies that he feels like he has known her his whole life. He still has trouble being on the streets so he came to see her in a cab. He says no one can imagine what it was like to have been isolated for all those years. Esmeeth agrees that it was horrible. ORBO tells her that Faux O and she were his only contacts with the outside world. [How was ORBO going to find out that Navier was dead so that he could use the evidence against Victor? He didn’t even know Faux O was dead. How was he even going to use the evidence if he was locked up in the manicomio? Never mind, I’ve tightened my beanie. Let’s move on.] He tells Esmeeth that he has been painting his whole life. She says that once Faux O gave her a portrait of her he said that he had commissioned. ORBO replies that it was of her a blue dress. He has always imagined her in a blue dress. Esmeeth wants to get back to business. What did he want to talk to her about? “Victor de Rosas,” says ORBO.
Reina calls Vic and says that she has got the diamond. If they could meet somewhere… Excuse me, says Victor, I choose the place. “Fine,” says Reina. Tell me where and when. “I love your obedience and submissiveness,” says Victor. He tells her to meet him tonight in his bedroom and no traps. Reina replies that the only one who sets traps is he. Vic tells her that if she really gives him the diamond, half of the list will be hers. “Can’t we just end this once and for all?” asks Reina. Vic laughs and says that she should know that he wants everything. He asks how Asuncíon is. Reina replies that she is fine. She hasn’t had another episode. “Give her a big kiss for me,” says Vic. Cobra comes in and asks Vic if he has good news. “We will know this very night,” replies Vic. Reina meanwhile prays that this nightmare will end tonight. [Of course, we know that it won’t since there are 18 more capitulos.]
Parte Tres
FELS is waiting for Navier is his office. He tells Navier what he already knows – that the body with the lips sewn shut is Estefi’s maid. Navier replies that the CIA and the police are doing the investigation together but that Dra Moto is doing the autopsy. FELS says that he was with MM. Navier replies that he wants MM kept as far as possible from this investigation. Moto comes in with a preliminary analysis on what happened to Asunción. FELS asks what happened to Asunción and Moto fills him in. Then she tells Navier that they found one of the same drugs in Asunción’s blood that was used in Proyecto Hoopiter. FELS says that isn’t possible. He says that it must be a similar drug or a derivative. No, replies Moto, it is an experimental drug, called Factor M. She is completely sure. Navier points out the coincidence of MM showing up and the use of this drug. Moto can’t believe that the drug is in circulation. She is sure that Asunción got a low dose but look at the effect it had. Navier says that they will question Asunción about how she might have been administered the drug. FELS says that if MM is involved in this, he will pay. FELS leaves and Moto asks Navier if he trusts FELS. Navier replies that he doesn’t know. Although FELS appears honest at this point he doesn’t want to trust anyone. Navier calls Reina and tells her that an agent is coming to bring to his office. He needs to talk to her urgently.
ORBO asks Esmeeth about Vic’s relationship with Faux O. Esmeeth replies that Faux O hated Victor, humiliated him, treated him badly and she never understood why. Victor grew up and was capable of anything, even murder. ORBO asks the question we have all asked ourselves – “If this is true, how is Victor walking around free?” “Because he is very crafty (“habil”),” replies Esmeeth but sooner or later, they will get him. ORBO asks about Navier, who is also Faux O’s son and hers. Reina comes in and gives Navier an impassioned character reference. He is an honest and upright person whose life has been made a hell because of Victor. If ORBO wants to help someone, he should help Navier.
Dra Moto and Laz are doing Yoli’s autopsy, which never seems to involve cutting open the cadaver but whatever. Laz says that Juanjo is innocent. Moto doesn’t doubt that.
Esmeeth seconds Reina’s description of Navier’s character. He is good and honest, maybe because he didn’t grow up with Victor. Now Vic and Estefi are trying to make life hell for him. ORBO says that he will help put Victor behind bars. Esmeeth asks if ORBO has some information about Victor. ORBO tells her about the papers that Faux O left with him before Victor murdered him. He doesn’t understand that much about them but he is pretty sure that they will put Victor behind bars. Cara de impactada de Esmeeth. There’s a knock at the door and it’s FELS. “Busy?” he asks Esmeeth.
At the police station, Juanjo asks Christián how many times he has to tell him that he isn’t a murderer? How long are they going to hold him? Christián replies that they are waiting for the autopsy results but the handkerchief that was used to strangle Yoli had his DNA on it. “It was my handkerchief!” JJ yells, “but I didn’t kill her.” Estefi comes in. JJ leaps up and accuses her of murdering Yoli.
The Cobra slithers into Vic’s office and sits on his lap. She says that she has changed her mind. She not only wants to be the mother of Vic’s child, she wants him. She wants him to divorce Reina or she will reveal that his daughter, Greta is alive.
Parte Cuatro
Navier is waiting for Reina in the lobby of the CIA office. She comes in. They embrace. He says they need to talk calmly and in private. Up slimes MM. He asks to be introduced to Reina. Reina replies that they don’t need to be introduced. They have met before. MM says that is impossible. He hasn’t been in LasVegas for years. She must be confusing him with someone else. Navier agrees that Reina must be mistaken. MM leaves and the human lie detector says, “of course he knows you.”
Estefi pretends to be shocked, shocked that Juanjo is accusing her of murdering Yoli. Yoli had worked for her years. JJ scoffs and says that Estefi is a murderer. She tried to kill him. Estefi comes back and says that JJ kidnapped her.
Vic tells Cobra that Greta is dead. Where did she get the idea that she was alive? Cobra tells him that she overhead him and Estefi talking about it. Vic asks if she thinks anyone would believe her. Cobra allows as how she will tell Greta’s boyfriend who is the brother in law of Christián. The police will investigate. [All they need to do is exhume Greta’s body.] She tells Vic to think carefully. Such an accusation would not be good for him. Sooner or later, the truth comes out.
Navier ushers Reina into his office. He makes sure there are no hidden microphones. He tells Reina that MM was upset by what she said. She has to remember where she saw him. She replies that remembers clearly where it was but that she wasn’t alone [I think that is what she said.]
MM calls Vic and tells him that they have a problem. He just met Reina and she recognized him. Vic replies that is impossible. MM only saw her once at the place they both know. MM says that Reina doesn’t remember where she saw him – yet. Does Victor realize what this means? “Yes,” replies Victor, “it means she’s dead.”
Esmeeth tells ORBO that FELS was her boss but not anymore; Navier is her boss now. FELS does his usual unprofessional insinuations about Esmeeth and ORBO. He asks if she is going to seduce him. She says that might be a good idea. FELS leaves the room to interview Asunción. ORBO tells Esmeeth that FELS is in love with her. She replies that he is there to talk about Victor, not about her personal life. She asks about the papers. What does he want in exchange for them. “I want you,” replies ORBO but he won’t manipulate her. He will give her the papers today.
Laz watches Dra Moto working and wonders how such a strong, dedicated woman could be the same as the one who needed him to comfort her the previous night. He flashed back to their sharing the same bed (with a song) but with a bolster between him.
Christián tells JJ and Estefi that if they want to file charges against each other, they have to do it formally and with proof. Since neither of them has proof, there are no charges. JJ has to stay in detention until the results of the autopsy are out. He is taken out of Christián’s office where he runs into Susana and Connie. They encourage him to be strong. Back in Christián’s office, Estefi asks if she has to make a statement or is she free to go. Christián says that she is free to go – for now.
Parte Cinco
Susana and Connie come into Christián’s office. Susana asks how Estefi could come back after all she did. Estefi asks to have the opportunity, after all they have been through, to tell her side of the story. Susana says that she believes in Juanjo. Estefi replies that Navier and JJ destroyed her life. She asks Susana to come to Vic’s house and talk. Estefi produces some crocodile tears and says that for now she will pray that Yoli’s soul rests in peace. She leaves.
Reina tells Navier that she doesn’t know why but the way MM looks at her makes her afraid. She has a very clear image [we see the flashback]. She was in a hospital-type place. She was connected to an IV and she saw MM. MM said to her, “this is just the beginning, Reina Ortiz.” She didn’t reply. Navier wonders if Reina was part of Proyecto Hoopiter. Navier says that it is the only explanation for what she saw. He asks if she can remember anything else that might help them. She can’t. No worries, replies Navier. He can find out if she was part of PJ.
From the autopsy, Dra Moto can apparently tell that this wasn’t a murder for pleasure. It was done by necessity. It was well planned out and done carefully. Laz says something about it being difficult to look a killer in the face. Moto understands that he is thinking of Greta. Laz says that Greta killed someone out of pain. Moto tells him that she believes everyone has a killer dormant inside them. Some people need a very strong motivation to wake it up, others, not so much.
Asunción tells FELS that she has tried so hard to remember anything but her mind is a blank. FELS leads her through her day prior to the attack. She tells him that Victor arrived after she got home. He asks if the “brote,” the psychotic break came after that. Asunción says yes. [Note that FELS doesn’t ask if she ate or drank anything with Victor and nobody has asked how it would take for the drug to take effect once ingested, a fact, which would narrow the time frame down considerably.] FELS says that he doesn’t like anything about Victor. He will keep investigating. Asunción calls him “son” and thanks him for helping her. He replies coldly that he is not there as her son but as an agent. He is doing his job and that’s all.
Navier finds that there is no available information about Reina’s possible participation in PJ but he will keep looking. Reina says the same image pops up in her head over and over. Navier promises that it won’t happen again. He will protect her. She asks if he will give her the diamond to give to Victor. Yes, replies Navier. He has the whole thing planned and will tell her what to do. Reina is sure that if Navier made a plan, it won’t fail. He is her salvation, always. He always has been and always will be.
ORBO brings the envelope to Esmeeth. She opens it and starts to examine the contents in Vic’s office! [Ayyy! Don’t look at it there. Get it out of Vic’s house.] She tells ORBO that this is what they have been searching for for years and years. In comes Estefi. Esmeeth hastily puts the papers back in the envelope and ORBO tries to conceal it.
Navier comes into Estefi’s dark, gloomy house, I think, where FELS is sitting on the couch. Navier says that he has been looking for FELS. “How strange,” replies FELS, “lately, you haven’t included me in anything.” Navier says that he has a question. Was Reina part of PJ? He pulls a gun and threatens to kill FELS if he doesn’t answer. [He can’t answer if he’s dead of course… but Navier doesn’t react well to threats against his mujer.]
"He notes that Yoli’s lips were sewn shut in the same manner as Old Nimoy’s nephew and Rocky. “I think we’re dealing with the same killer,” he deduces brilliantly."
hee hee
Ok, I have to read the rest...
"Christián replies that he is just doing his job [and so he is - TWCILV always arrests the wrong suspect]"
And then there's this little poem --
Esmeeth is telling ORBO
that she is investigating Faux O,
“que usted me habló”
Or this --
Reina comes in and gives Navier an impassioned character reference.
Dra Moto and Laz are doing Yoli’s autopsy, which never seems to involve cutting open the cadaver but whatever.
¡Gracias a Dios!
[Note that FELS doesn’t ask if she ate or drank anything with Victor and nobody has asked how long it would take for the drug to take effect once ingested, a fact, which would narrow the time frame down considerably.]
18 more episodes, amiga! :D
Here's the thing: I'm glad I saw the chopped liver version on TV, but if I had to choose between watching that and reading this, I wouldn't hesitate -- this is a gazillion times better than what we saw. I don't mean to gush, but this is a brilliant recap of a -- you should excuse the expression -- killer episode that many American viewers would have missed, if not for you!
Thank you!
Thursday was the 13th. Monday's recap of episode 123 will be starting with the show that was broadcast on Friday, November 14th.
Loved all the creativity now that you have a little more time to report the activities. I particularly liked your last line, worthy of adding to The Wisdom.
He can’t answer if [FELS]is dead of course… but Navier doesn’t react well to threats against his mujer.
They left out Reina's Uncle Rudy, he who was made up to look like Javier. He was also found with his lips sewn shut. Where did Stefi run across him and what secret was he not supposed to tell Asuncion that incriminated Stefi?
Never mind, I found it, back on October 13. FELS connected Asuncion and Uncle Rudy and was questioning her. It seems only that Asuncion was looking for her hijo and he was going to tell her something about him (Oh, FELS, is the Bell Tolling for Thee?) and the arguments between Rudy and Pedro were over Delfina's paternity. FELS must have inadvertently or advertently said something about Uncle Rudy in Stefi's presence. That is, if she is the only Lip Costurera.
So what did he know that deserved a session with the Lip Costurera, when just a little later on, she arranges that deceitful and almost fatal meeting with Asuncion (thanks to Lopez 2.0, but saved by FELS).
It would be hard to believe, but entirely believable in Stefi's telenovela emotional range to take any slight as a betrayal. If so, RdC would be littered with hundreds more bodies with their lips sutured. So, I'm still not satisfied. Something HAS to tie these three, now four, bodies together.
Stefi's most chilling statement to date is the "Betrayal is paid in Blood," the note that was scrawled on the bathroom mirror when "someone?" took pot shots at Javier and Reina in the shower together.
If it was Delfina who took the pot shot, was she ordered to add that message?
Also, we haven't heard any post mortem information on Frank Marino. Any chance he might be alive and come back at this late date? We would have enjoyed his comeback in place of MM. Since Frank went crazy, maybe he's one of Proyecto Hoopiter's victims, too. (A very Cracked, Crockpot theory.)
So many loose threads (and not Stefi's brand), so little time.
brilliant recap detective Jean!
I agree with NovelaMaven, reading your summaries are much better that watching Telemundo's mess.
I'm still scratching my head at Christian arresting JJ, Susana was with him the whole time, doesn't that count? and of course everyone but JJ is ignoring Estefi's attempt on his life, saved only because the gun ran out of bullets, she having killed so many other people, so is this arrest connected to JJ's relationship with Connie?
and do we think that the proof against Victor was assembled by Reina, stolen by Greta, given to Grandma, to the maid, to the organization, to Faux O, to ORBO, to Esmeeth, or is their a second set.
ah, and Greta seems to be very much alive in the thoughts of our characters, and (not a spoiler but wild idea) should be walking, may look different, has killed before, and should know something about the baby and should be in constant contact (and may be working with) with Estefi, who is getting pretty good at deceiving us, spewing emotional lies about everything to everyone, but is curiously always upset to see Laz and dra. Moto together.
Anita- wow, how do you remember all of these details?
Wow, you have a great memory and great ideas. I had totally forgotten about Tío Rudy. Maybe the writers have, too since he wasn't included in the lips-sewn-shut group. To me though, it's seems easy to guess why Rudy got Estefi's special treatment - he knew that FELS was her brother and was going to tell Asunción. We know how obsessed Estefi is about keeping her brother all to herself. If that is what Rocky found out, then then that makes sense for his death, too. Yoli was a different, but also serious, threat to Estefi if she talked. The only one that we don't know the why is Old Nimoy's nephew. He seemingly didn't have anything to do with anyone but maybe that will be explained eventually.
As for Frank Marino, I doubt he is coming back. Maybe if the writers original plan for more episodes had come to pass. But you never know.
1) I'm still scratching my head at Christian arresting JJ, Susana was with him the whole time, doesn't that count? and of course everyone but JJ is ignoring Estefi's attempt on his life, saved only because the gun ran out of bullets, she having killed so many other people, so is this arrest connected to JJ's relationship with Connie?
I don't think JJ's arrest has anything do with Connie. It's true that Christián doesn't seem to have been interested in any of the other murders that have happened recently in Las Vegas. I think it is an opportunity for Estefi to act bereaved and Susana to be upset, etc. As Dra Moto said, I don't think it will last long. As for Estefi's murders in Florida, that is out of Christián's jurisdiction and apparently Estefi was able to destroy all the evidence against her and Navier told JJ to keep his mouth shut to the police since he had actually kidnapped Estefi.
2)and do we think that the proof against Victor was assembled by Reina, stolen by Greta, given to Grandma, to the maid, to the organization, to Faux O, to ORBO, to Esmeeth, or is their a second set.
I think this is definitely a different set of proofs against Victor. It seemed pretty clear that the maid/false nun gave Reina's proofs to the "organization" and that was that. Faux O's proofs were distinct and put together to protect Navier's life.
So TWCILV is going on a neighbor's testimony. As far as anyone knows, Juanjo was the last person to see Yoli alive. And then there is the fact that the murder weapon (JJ's pañuelo) has only Juanjo's DNA on it (ewwww!).
"ah, and Greta seems to be very much alive in the thoughts of our characters, and (not a spoiler but wild idea) should be walking, may look different, has killed before, and should know something about the baby and should be in constant contact (and may be working with) with Estefi"
Wow! I love the idea that Greta may be the mysterious person on Estefanía's side!
It's no effort at all if one has ALL the recaps copied to my Word program and I can do a "Find."
I'll have to offer a cleaned-up, print version of Reina after it ends. It would be a better keepsake than not only what we are getting, but what will surely be an even more chopped up DVD version, no?
Mauricio's blog starts with Capitulo 86 (with #52 - Sep 9, thrown in for good luck[Laz knifed, Miriam dead, Reina is back with Victor, Vic wants Javier killed, Izzy says that guy is hard to kill]. I'm watching it now. Our consolidated blog goes back to week 1.
Meanwhile, whatever Reina gathered was "undercover" and perhaps didn't come directly from Faux/DBO. Some might have, but apparently she was a pretty good undercover spy, but Greta did find the evidence and then....as you reported, it changed hands quite often.
Greata's name keeps popping up, and often enough to make me wonder is she will pop up before this is over.
DocMoto should consider wearing an old tee shirt or football jersey to bed with Laz, instead of a camisole and bikini undies. Then she might not need a pillow wall to keep him on his side.
Just thinking out loud with a Crackpot Theory . . . What if MM is really Pedro Ortiz? Makes no sense, of course, because FPGELS should recognize him if he was.
Of course it's perfectly villain-like behavior but I'm finding it very, very odd that Victor would give Reina the Hoopiter Juice when he constantly maintained how much he loved her.
This thing has been SUCH a wild ride. The premise at the start was that Victor, many years ago, was the Black Falcon, who stole precious stones and was the bane of law inforcement. Apparently Estefy was doing some of the same stuff, although we were only treated once to her skilz in stealing the red diamond (aided by Faux Big O). Victor got the diamond right back of course.
They also alluded to Victor dealing in gold and, if I remember correctly, arms.
So now, this whole Proyecto Hoopiter thing is tacked on. Victor and MM are apparently planning to sell this juice to evil dictators all over the world so they can create invincible soldiers (at least that's what I gleaned).
Just completely off the hook, the whole thing!!!
I'm amazed, now that all is said and done, at how much you all are helping ME to make sense of everything... AFTER the fact. All I can say is that- with a tip of the hat to Marcela Citterio- at the end of this novela it really DOES all come together to make sense.
Keep at it gang! And my continuing best wishes to all...
Siate felice,
Stevey :-)
I just caught up with all the posts. just so I understand- my post will be Episode 123 only? (which is fine by me)
Thanks so much!!
Why, oh why, is Cristian still alive? That guy is a total screwup and annoying to boot! At least FELS screwed things up on purpose to protect Stefi. Cristian is just dumb and incompetent.
Dr. Moto needs to wear shirts with more material, period. Have her tops been getting skimpier each episode?
