Hasta El Fin Del Mundo #80 12/8/14 It's Lupe's Party, But the Surprise is for Sofia

From Friday:
Chava asks Araceli to make sure Paco gets to Lupe's birthday party.
Isadora complains about the lack of alcohol in her drink. Oliver tells her she has a drinking problem and tries to convince her to go to AA.
Greta calls Chava. She wants to talk to him immediately.

New:

Alexa cries and tells Irais that she has loved Armando from the first time he first picked her up at the airport. He helped her get over her panic attacks and regain her confidence. Irais understands why Alexa would fall in love with Armie. Irais starts to cry. She has devoted all her time and attention to her studies and her work. She has no suitors and her prospects look dim because, well.. because she's a bit of a nerd. Alexa assures Irais that she's is very pretty and that love will come when she least expects it. Irais daydreams about Matias. They dry their tears and get back to work.

I struck out and you've never even had a chance to play.

Chava goes to Sofia and tells her that Greta called and ordered him to come and talk to her. Sofia asks, "What will you tell her?"
"The truth."
Sofia cautions that Greta is in delicate condition and nearly had an infarto when Sofia tried to explain their relationship. She warns Chava not to say anything about coming back to work at Ripoll. Greta pushed to have Armie fired over his relationship with Alexa. Sofia is afraid Greta will order her to fire him too. Chava assures her that his lips are zipped.

Irais and Alexa look at designs for bon bon wrappers. Irais thinks the lacy designs look like the old-fashioned granny panties that she wears. They get the giggles and Alexa says that the design would be good for the 'classic' chocolates. Irais asks if it's true that the company has a rule that forbids workplace romances. Alexa doesn't know, but if that rule does exist she's already broken it! Alexa asks, "Do you have someone in mind?"

Irais looks just like the picture behind her.

Greta calls Pato to tell him she ordered Chava to come and give her an explanation about his relationship with Sofia. Pato insists that Greta give him a vote of confidence and just go along with his plan. Greta wants to put that gold-digging opportunist in his place!

Sofia tells Chava not to go talk to Greta. Chava is certain he can convince Greta that his intentions are good. He is going to fight for their love.

This is my "I'm in Love" look...

Lucas and Marisol are in the break room. Dani sees them and hides in the hall to listen in. Lucas gets a call that he has another fight scheduled for tonight. He apologizes to Marisol because he can't go to Lupe's party now. He needs the money he'll earn from the fight to help Miguelina. He notices Dani and steps into the hall, "Are you spying?" At first she denies it, then admits that she heard that Lucas has another fight. Dani is worried that the fights might be illegal. Lucas tells her to mind her own business.

Lupe' arranges some large fake flowers in vases while Javier reminds her how he used to sing to her on her birthdays. There is a knock at the door. Lupe' sends Javier off to do some menial chore while she answers the door. Paco surprises her with a big "Happy Birthday!" and wheels in a cart of party supplies. Lupe' is thrilled, "Are you coming to my party?"
"Yes, I am."
Javier comes into the room, "So you're coming to the party for my wife?"
Paco is angry that Javier dares to call Lupe' his wife. Javier reminds Paco, "In the eyes of the law we are still married."
Paco shouts, "Lupe is getting a divorce so she can be with me legally!" He turns to Lupe', "Isn't that right?"
Lupe' stares defiantly at Javier, "Yes! That's right! There is no turning back to you and me."
Javier steps away, "Ah, now I see. I made a mistake and lost a marvelous woman. I'll let you be with your future novio." He leaves the room.

I was a drunk, slept around and didn't support you.
I still don't understand why you're leaving me for that guy.

Lupe' asks Paco if he feels more confident about their relationship. Paco confesses that he does. He just wanted Lupe' to confirm her decision in front of Javier. Paco gets close to kissing her, but notices Javier watching them through a window. Paco pulls back, "I'll wait to kiss you until we're married." Javier mumbles, "That's never going to happen."

Chava arrives at the Ripoll mansion. Fausto is shocked to see him and tries to make him go away. Fausto thinks that Greta is in no condition to talk to Chava after dealing with Irma, Armando and Alexa just yesterday. A voice from the stairway commands, "Tell him to come in, Fausto!"

In the office, Greta accuses Salvador of taking advantage of Sofia. He tells Greta that they've done nothing to be ashamed of.
"You made her betray her morals and her upbringing!"

Silvana doesn't think Sofia needs to worry about Greta's health. If Greta called Salvador after talking with Irma and Armando yesterday, she must be getting stronger. Silvana suggests, "Maybe your mother is using her illness to control you and your sisters."
Sofia is offended. "That's very insensitive of you, Silvana." Sofia leaves the office. Silvana muses, "I know Greta's tricks. My brother and I lost our mother because of her."

Chava tells Greta that he knows Sofia is a responsible woman. But she put aside her own emotional needs to take care of her family. All Chava has done is awaken Sofia's emotions. Greta hisses, "You can't offer her what she needs!"
Chava swears he loves Sofia and has her best interests at heart. If Greta gives him the chance, he'll prove it. Greta threatens to use her influence to ruin him.

...which looks just like my "I've been threatened" look...

Sofia calls Fausto and asks how things are going between Greta and Chava. Fausto hasn't heard anything, and promises he'll let her know. Pato brings Sofia some documents to check over. He notices that Sofia is preoccupied and asks her what's wrong.

Chava dismisses Greta's threat, so she tries a different tactic. If he gives up on Sofia, she'll help make his racing dream come true. Chava tells Greta that his love for Sofia is not negotiable. He excuses himself and leaves.

Pato tells Sofia that Salvador is a ladies man who thinks he can get any woman he wants. Pato gets close to Sofia. He just wants to have an honest competition for Sofia's heart. He is about to kiss Sofia when Silvana interrupts.

Renzi makes sure that Flor has her story straight. He'll provide everything she needs, including a set of phony parents to back up her story. All Flor has to do is convince people that she and Chava are engaged. Renzi hands her a small box. "This is the ring that you got from Cruz when he proposed."

By the way, this ring is as fake as your story.

Chava tells Armie about the choice Greta offered him; his racing dream or Sofia. Chava won't tell Sofia about the offer.

Pato screams at Silvana for ruining the moment with Sofia. He's beginning to think that Silvana isn't on his side. Doesn't she know that Sofia means nothing to him? Of course Silvana is backing him! But she's also angry that Sofia is getting all this attention from two men.

Chava returns to Sofia's office. She wants to know all the details about his conversation with Greta. He assures Sofia that he didn't tell Greta he's back working at Ripoll. "I was courteous and respectful. I listened to what Greta had to say, and I fought for you." They kiss. Gack! This was the grossest TN kiss I've ever seen, complete with slurping noises.

He's got the oyster...

He passes it to her...

She passes it back to him.

Greta calls Pato to tell him that Salvador wouldn't step aside, didn't take her threat to ruin his career seriously, and refused to be bought off. Pato tells her not to worry. Salvador's luck is about to run out.

Sofia pulls away from Chava. She doesn't want to kiss in the office. It's inappropriate and she's already dealing with rumors about Alexa and Armie. They stare at each other.

Paco calls Miguelina to ask if Greta would be interested in trying another brand of jam. It's expensive, so he needs to get the okay from her personally. Miguelina will ask Greta to call him back.

Fausto asks Greta what happened during her talk with Salvador. She can't believe that rube wants to marry Sofia! Fausto asks Greta to consider Salvador from another perspective. Look at his good qualities; he came to you to defend his love for Sofia. Greta protests, "You can't live on love!" Fausto reminds Greta that she left the man she loved to marry for security. "Your daughters don't have to follow your lead."
"I did what was best for me. Why shouldn't they do the same?"
Miguelina comes in to tell Greta about Paco's phone call. Should Miguelina call him back and give him the okay? Greta yells, "I'll call him back personally, later on!"

Matias and Marisol won't get to go to watch Lucas fight because of Lupe's party, but they'd sure like to bet on him because they know he'll win. Irais overhears and asks, "Winning what?" Marisol says Matias will explain. He tells Irais, "Life is a dilemma. You win or you lose." Irais is amazed, "That is so profound."

I think you're wiser than Confucius, Plato
and Captain Kirk put together!

Sofia tells Alexa that Chava went to talk to Greta. Alexa knows that if Greta wouldn't accept Armando, she won't accept Salvador either.

Marisol finds Lucas and gives him a fistful of cash. She wants to bet on his fight. Lucas is uncomfortable that she wants to bet so much money on him. He asks her, "What if I lose?" Chava comes in to the break room and Lucas makes a quick exit. Chava asks Marisol, "What were you and Lucas up to? You look suspicious."

...which looks just like my "I'm suspicious" look.

Oliver takes Isadora to an AA meeting. She doesn't think she needs to be there, but Oliver says, "It won't hurt to listen for a while."

So my liquor bill is $10,000 a month.
That doesn't mean I have a drinking problem.

Greta calls Paco and tells him to send over the jam. Paco admits he used the jam as an excuse to get her to call. He really wants to talk. He asks, "Is Sofia my daughter? You were in the hospital the last time I asked and we couldn't talk. I'd like to see you and talk." Greta cuts the call short when Fausto comes in the room. She tells Fausto she was talking to an art supplier. He is surprised, "I thought it might be Paco?" She refuses to tell Fausto if she talked to Paco or not.

Sofia tells Chava he should go home and help get Lupe's party ready. Sofia has decided to attend. Pato enters the office and tells Chava he isn't welcome there. Chava slaps Pato on the shoulder, "That's why everyone loves you and wants to punch your teeth in."

Irma is getting all dolled up. She wants to look stunning at Lupe's party. Araceli is surprised that Armie agreed to go with her. "I think you're getting your hopes up, Irma."
Irma shoots her a look, "You should be getting dressed up like this so you can show up that blonde Ripoll girl."

Sofia tells Chava that she'll see him later.
Pato asks, "Are you really going to that party? I didn't think you liked being around that class of people. But I guess you're a free human being."
She glares at him, "I'm glad you noticed."

Pato calls Renzi, "I gave you the address, everything is ready. Take Flor there and then leave."

Lupe' makes rolls for the party; she mixes, kneads, rolls, tops, cuts, bakes and frosts. Why is she doing all the work for her own party? I say give Javier a box of Duncan Hines and tell him to get on it, that birthday cake won't make itself.

The Ripoll girls arrive home with Pato and find that Greta has been working in her studio instead of resting. Greta invites Pato to dinner. After the meal Sofia, Pato and Greta talk about business. Alexa and Dani are bored and leave the table. Pato decides it's time for him to go. Greta tells him to come back anytime because he's always welcome. Pato says he will as long as Greta keeps inviting him. After Pato leaves Sofia asks Greta what she and Salvador talked about. Greta won't say.

Armie arrives at home to pick up Nandito for Lupe's party. Armie is surprised to find out that Irma has invited herself to go along with them.

Miguelina arrives at Lupe's and gives her a present. Fuzzy Tavares comes in with a big bouquet of flowers. Lupe' wants him to try her bread. Tavares looks over and sees Paco. "I will, if it's okay with Paco." Javier overhears and approaches Tavares, "I'm Lupe's husband. Who are you?"

End of Episode.

Comments:
Xlnt, fantastic recap. Best caption: "I was a drunk . . ."

The bad:

Alexa saying her "signature" phrase "que te lo digo yo" one more time. She also said it in the last episode: she who know nothing about nothing. (except bad eye makeup)

Irma managing to get Armando to go with her and not just Nandito to the party so they will look like a couple.

Greta not being able to give up being her b****y self. No redemption there ever.

Sofía being stupid and discussing Chava going to see Greta with Patricio.

The good:

Tavares arriving at the party with the flowers for Lupe and upsetting both Paco and Javier. I want Lupe to end up with Tavares. Sour Paco and his "mermelada" can end up with prune face Greta. Javier can leave and just be his vagabundo self.

Fausto.

I am ready for the plot to get out of the holding pattern it is in.

Jarifa

xlnt, thank you for the hilarious captions and recap! “I was a drunk, slept around and didn't support you.
I still don't understand why you're leaving me for that guy.” LOL! Exactly. “ I think you're wiser than Confucius, Plato and Captain Kirk put together!” I love it! (Wasn’t that Episode 77, “The Savage Curtain,” with Abraham Lincoln & Co…? :D) I still need to listen to the whole text…

Nicandro Díaz, the producer, announced he plans to extend this show until April 2014 (Mexico); which is surprising since the Mexico ratings have fallen every week during the last month. Last week they were in the 15’s, and the show was listed fourth.

Last evening’s episode was weird; and it’s not David’s fault, rather Marjorie’s. Even as much as Marjorie disliked Pedro, she had more chemistry with him in their first episode together than in this episode with David. Itatí Cantoral created fantastic chemistry with Pedro, despite keeping their clothes on.

Jeri, the list of evil villains on this TN:
1.) Greta: ruined Paco's life & everyone else's.

2.) Patrick

3.) Silvana

4.) Silvana's brother

5.) Flor: bitter woman

6.) Irma: she needs to DIE !

7.) Renzi

8.) Peralta

9.) The mafia

Oops, April 2015. I always do that at least once writing checks.

Jeri, thanks for the info. So that is about 4 more months of this craziness. Since I am ready to move on, I am wondering what the next batch of novelas will be. I better start reading the rumor rags. As usual, I am hoping for a comedy or something light to follow this or MCET. As for the ratings, I guess that is what happens when you change your leading man midstream. Btw, QPTR is being released in one of those summary dvd sets end of this month. No news on LQLVMR. Those two were my faves of the year.

Jarifa

The No. 2 show ratings wise in Mexico now is La Sombra del Pasado.

The cast is shown at Wiki as:
Michelle Renaud
Pablo Lyle
Alexis Ayala
Alejandra Barros
Alfredo Adame
Susana González
René Strickler
Manuel "Flaco" Ibáñez

I like the cast and will be looking forward to giving it a try.

Thank you xInt

"Why is she doing all the work for her own party?"

Jeri, I agree with you about the chemistry between Marjorie and David. It looked like Sofia was more into Patricio than Salvador last night.

Marisol is a fool giving Lucas that money and hope Lucas doesn't place any bets on himself.

Lucas still hasn't learned his lesson and is, therefore, still vulnerable to being used.

Jarifa

Xint, perfection as always.

"I struck out and you've even never had a chance to play" and "I was a drunk, slept around and didn't support you" were among my favorites.

Poor Tavares. Here he thinks he has lost out to Paco (I'm still hoping he is the one for Lupe) and now he finds out he has Lupe's husband to contend with too! What a crowded field it is becoming - I think Lupe has more suitors than anyone!

I'm enjoying the Alexa/Irais friendship very much.

Thanks Xint.

Diana

Whoa! That long ?

More time for Greta, Patrick, Renzi & Silvana to wreak HAVOC ! Ugh

Xlnt- Another great recap from you within a few days! Thank you.

I only saw bits and pieces of this last night, but did see the kiss. I've never been impressed with DZ as a kisser, and I've only seen Majorie kiss in nasty villain mode. The kiss was big (what Pedro wouldn't do), but I wasn't feeling much heat from it, and I'm not yet feeling the warmth from Chava 2.0. But I'm willing to give the two actors time to warm up to each other.

What I don't know if I'm ready to do is watch this thing into practically next summer! Good grief! It's been moving sooooo slowly.

The sexiness of the credits has ramped up considerably. Not that there is anything wrong with that concept, I'm just not wild about what they've done. I think they are trying to overcompensate for a perceived lack of heat by showing Sil in her underwear (yet again). I'm sure that will please some of the male viewers but...

I think it would have been better served by showing some longing, yearning looks and some hot kisses.

Of course, I'm a bit perturbed that there isn't even one tiny shot of my Matias so I may be a bit bitter. A bit. ;)

Diana

Vivi: Irma just needs to get killed off NOW ! Everyone is getting sick & tired of her crap!

Diana- Did you also catch the new shots of Marjorie in her skimpy swimsuit...shot from the back? When have we ever seen Sofia in anything like that, or seen any of these character next to a pool?

LOL!

Marjorie would probably choose to be naked in every scene; no surprise if she's the one lobbying Wardrobe for those backless office attires. Dress for Success. She is the one who was miscast as the serious older sister. Kendra was a fitting role for her.

Also Julian Gil is Marjorie’s former boyfriend, IIRC. Nicandro Diáz says they plan to change the story whilst lengthening it. Lengthening it always pushes the story way out of whack anyway; hard to predict what depths of weirdness this could sink to.

With Silvana complaining that Sofía is enjoying the attentions of two men far too well -- and the appearance of Flor's side plot -- it seems likely Sofía is indeed going to marry Patricio. Then Marjorie and Julian can get busy.

Meanwhile, Araceli will console Salvador and get some of what she wants until long about the end of March. And then in the last two weeks of the show, Patricio will meet his well deserved death, and Salvador will leave Araceli for Sofía after becoming a filthy rich NASCAR star with a dozen big sponsors.

Oops, Díaz.

Thanks for bringing that up Vivi. Yes, that swimsuit doesn't look like anything the uptight Sophia would conjure up. LOL.

Diana

We are at episode 80, and nothing of consequence has happened since the first few weeks when Sofia and Chava escaped the (fake) carjacking/kidnaping, and Chava’s racecar was sabotaged.

-Sofia’s baby daddy secret has not been revealed. (Come on, Paco. The fact that she’s avoiding the question means that YES, you ARE the father!)
-No one we know or care about has been ejected from their home because of Peralta’s evil (but slow as molasses) plot to take over the hood.
-None of the neighbors we have met are willing to sell up (except Irma, but the house doesn’t belong to her).
-Pato is no closer to getting Sofia down the aisle.
-Silvana still has done nothing towards her revenge plot, and her bro is still in rehab.
-Paco revealed part of the chocolate recipe book theft, but then took the accusation back to avoid scandal. Sofia, Matias and everyone else are still as blissfully ignorant as before of Coria’s fraud.
-Chava still hasn’t gone back to racing.
-Everyone, except Greta and Paco, still think that Octavio Ripoll was a great, upstanding guy.

Time to spice this thing up! And I’m not talking about adding boody shots of Marjorie in a bikini or shower shots of DZ.

What about Greta & her secrets ?

Thanks, Xlnt. My favorite:
This is my "I'm in Love" look...which looks just like my "I've been threatened" look...

That kiss felt like they were trying to overcompensate for the non-kisses of before. But if Sofia is so hot for Chava that she kisses him like that in her workplace, why is she making Pato think he has a chance? Why not just tell Greta she's not marrying anybody--period?

I'm actually liking Alexa better than Sofia now. She's smarter when it comes to their mother.

There seems to be a spoiler in the opening credits. Did anyone catch that shot (Steve B, sorry not a gunshot) of Irma?

Niecie- Yep. I saw it, and couldn't believe the producer would put such a major spoiler in the new opening credits. Why? It's sufficient to keep the Irma intro the same to show that she will be a pain in Armie's and Alexa's backsides.

I wanted it to be Salvador that disrupted the near kiss between Sofia and Patricio so he would know what he's getting into and hear her lie her way out. She is her mothers daughter. That near kiss made Sofia's kiss with Salvador seem forced and like she is staffing a kissing booth for all comers. Salvador is an absolute fool to be chasing that girl and hope tonight blows the lid off their jr high romance.

From here on out, I will be calling Greta "Lady Marmalade"... Hehe

Niecie, I saw that shot of Irma and thought QTH? I was willing to believe that maybe it was a deleted scene from when Irma came home from the suicide attempt, but I don't think so.

Vivi, I agree this TN has been a like a balloon, just a big ball of air with nothing of substance inside. Four more months?? Good grief. I don't know if I have that much snark in me.

Marjorie and Pedro had some chemistry, but there is none with DZ. Maybe they should just paint a puppet on Marjorie's hand ala Senor Wences and she can do the scenes that way. I think it would be better.

DZ looks like a wax figure. I am waiting for the scene when his forehead actually moves. I thought the scene where Greta was yelling at Chava showed just how bad he is. She was literally frothing at the mouth and DZ looked like a mannequin. The more animated she got, the worse his "acting" looked.

Mind your own business Vivi! Some of us are only here for the shower scenes. Don't listen to her Mr. DIAZ!

LOL! Cyn- How about plot movement AND shower scenes? ;-)

The baby daddy story is turning into Tyler Perry's"I stole Paco's secret recipes & got away with it for 30 years."

Xlnt, love the señor Wences plan.

Jarifa

Well, he plans to but let's all hope he is shot down.

Jarifa, the following novela will a Mejia show; the fifth remake of La Mentira, "Lo Imperdonable."

Not a Pedro Fernandez fan so I haven't been watching this regularly, catching an episode here and there, but heard that DZ was replacing him (I can take him or leave him - prefer him as a villain) so I decided to give it a try. One-and-a-half episodes into DZ and ... I'm back to not watching. DZ's so-called "acting" is so robotic and he's so hopelessly miscast that he's extremely uncomfortable to watch. It's not all his fault, though. The poor country bumpkin dialogue and mannerisms of Salvador fit PF well ... they are all so jarring from Zepeda! No me gusta !

Thanks for this hilarious recap, Xint. Your photo captures of David Z's incredible range of facial expressions of emotions is priceless and dead on target... what talent he is blessed with. As for his skill at kissing... a spaniel couldn't do it better.

I've been missing from the discussions for while but have watched the episodes (most times late the following day) and kept up with the recaps and comments.

Just want to express my sympathy and support for Irma. While she certainly did deceive Armando, he is being dishonest by saying that his feelings for Alexa has nothing to do with his rejection of her.

Carlos

I do have to say, if this show is REAALLLY to be stretched out until April, they might as well have Patricio, Silvie and Renzi succeed in their nefarious plot while Sofi, Alexa, Dani and Grrreta QUE POBRES TAN RICOS it up with their respective galans and at some point have Silvie realize what Pato did to her baby and take him down. However I SINCERELY doubt the writers have that planned.

Greta-Ana Sofia
Dani-Frida
Alexa-Leonardo
Lucas-Tizoc
Marisol-Perla Ivette
Oliver-Tomas
Silvie-Vilma
Patricio-Alejo

Sofia and Chava are a reverse Miguel Angel and Guadalupe.

he he he, Senor Wences

10.) Fight promoter
11.) Manateous (whatever his name is who got Lucas into boxing)

"Silvana in her underwear".. I just wonder if there isn't some conflict on the set because Silv appears all the time half naked when that is Marjorie's stock in trade and they have her with one foot in the convent. KJ
