La Gata #79 12/19/14 La Fractura

42 to go.

I'm out and about today. I will be posting the recap in fits and spurts with combined scenes and in some cases just a sentence or two when the scene was a lot of repetitive conversation.

Parte Uno
We are "treated" to the refrito from Thursday. Low runs to Pablo's side. Gisela claims he's groggy from too much drinking, but Esme doesn't fall for it. Pablo doesn't drink. Gisela knows Esme must be upset. Gesela tried to tell Esme that Pablo was steppin' out on her, but Esme didn't want to believe it. Esme goes OFF. She tells Gisela to cut it out. She's tired of her crap. Esme drives her wheelchair into Gisela, knocking her onto the bed.

Rita tells Carrlos to butt out of the grown up conversation. She and Dorila were just discussing his relationship with Little Miss Finolis (Virginia.) Dorila turns to him and tells him that Low still doesn't approve the relationship. Carrlos tells Dorila that Low will have to get used to it. He plans on studying, bettering himself and marrying Miss Virginia. Dorila sneers and tells Rita that this boy just "can't be him." Dorila says she'll be back in a month and leaves. "Can't be who?" asks Carrlos. Rita just brushes off his questions and announces she's going to go visit Ines.

We return to Pablo's apartment for round one of the WTFWWF. Esme is comforting Pablo when Gisela screeches at her to get her hands off Pablo. Mariano intervenes and Gisela calls him a rapist. Low delivers a quick 1-2 left and right hook combination. Pablo starts to come to and mumble. Gisela asks Pablo to tell them all about their night of passion. Pablo doesn't know what she's talking about. (IMO Drugged Pablo doesn't seem all that different from Not Drugged Pablo.) Esme explains to Pablo that he was drugged and that she believes in him. Gisela continues to insult Esme by telling her that she has to come begging Pablo for love (viene rogar de amor.) Mariano tries to point out the irony of Gisela insulting Esme with such a phrase.

Remember Gisela kind of begged Mariano for a little loving...and she's getting pretty desperate with Pablo, too if you think about it....evil pathetic, but still pathetic. I mean seriously, if you have to dupe a guy into signing a sketchy contract and drug him just to get him to bed you're pretty pathetic.

Ok, back to the recap. Gisela tells Mariano to shut up and Low starts slapping her again. Real slaps from the sound of it. Eventually they manage to kick her out in her sheet. No purse, no keys. Just the sheet. Turns out she still had the catsuit on under the sheet. She had just removed the top bit to make it look like she was naked. Out in the hall she adjusts the suit and monologues about Esme learning the truth: even drugged Pablo wouldn't touch Gisela.

Diogenes wants his money. He gives Augie 2 days. Augie is not scared of his threats and just wants a drink. Diogenes obliges and finds about three fingers of booze in a bottle. Augie gulps it down with a hearty sigh. That was good! Let's go get more! He and Diogenes leave the apartment in search of wagons to fall off of.

Damian is preparing to leave for the courts. He's got all the proofs of Fer's innocence in an envelope. Fer explains to Meche about Rita finding them and giving them to him. Fer reminds Damian to be careful and to also run by the bank to get some cash for some payments that need to be made. Fer reminds Damian (and Viewerville) that he's now the sole owner of the DLSC fortune. Meche insists on blessing Damian before he goes. The whole scene screams "Damian is doomed!"

Augie comes home and Low is waiting. Her face says "I'm so over everyone's crap"(™ Diva.) He's fallen off the wagon again, but he doesn't care. He's going to die a drunk. He's even written a song about it (Lila is a better songwriter.)

The next day, Meche discovers that Damian never made it home. She runs to Fer in a panic. Damian has never slept away from home! The doorbell interrupts her. It's Mariano. He's come to tell them that Damian has been in an accident. A terrible accident. Meche faints as we go to commercial.

Parte Dos
Did I mention that much of this recap will be out of order?

As we come back from commercial, Meche is being tended to by Jarocha. Meche jumps up and wants to know where Damian is. She needs to see him! She has to see him! Mariano explains that Dam was the victim of a hit and run. Jarocha tries to calm Meche.

Augie woke up with a hangover, but Low has something even worse planned for him: An intervention!! Pablo and Virginia are also there (why the hell is the apartment number nailed to the INSIDE of the door?) Mariano couldn't make it since he was called down to the Attorney General's office. Anyhoo...Low wants to put Augie in rehab again before he dies of congestión alcohólica (alcohol poisoning?) Augie really doesn't think they have any authority to put him away, but Virginia says they do. They're his children and family! He's just not seeing things clearly. Augie says Virginia doesn't see *anything* clearly and chuckles to himself. Low interrupts and asks when he's going to stop hurting people. He is just pathetic...worthy of the deepest pity.

Esme explains to Doc Hottie that nothing happened between Gisela and Pablo. Doc Hottie is not so convinced. He thinks Pabs is lying and there is something going on between Pabls and Gi. He wants Esme to really think things through.

Later, Pabs comes to the institute and tells Esme he's kidnapping her for a romantic getaway. She says she's a willing kidnapee. Doc Hottie PT and Doc Hottie lurk nearby and discuss Doc Hottie letting Esme go. Doc PT wonders if Doc Hottie is worried about Esme abandoning the Institute...or the Doctor. Doc Hottie thinks he needs to take the two days Esme will be away to try and understand she will never be his. (This show makes for awkward sentence structure....Ok, my hatred of writing and editing makes for awkward sentences.)

At the hospital, the doctor explains that Damian is unconscious and has a fracture of the cranium. In the hospital cafeteria, Fer and Mariano discuss Damian's medical expenses. Fer only has what's in his wallet. He was getting his money from Dam (granted, his it was his own money, but Dam was now in control of it.) Now Damian is in a coma and can't even sign a check! What will they do? What if Damian doesn't regain consciousness? Fer doesn't even want to think about that. They have to get Damian the care he needs no matter what it costs!

Pabs and Esme enjoy their beach getaway.

Virginia and Jarocha wonder whether to ruin Esme's trip and tell her about Damian. He's like a brother to Esme! Jarocha doesn't know where they are because Pabs kept it a secret and he's not even got his phone on (so she wonders why even have the thing HA!) Everytime those two lovebirds get a little happiness, something comes along to ruin it (and her name is Latoodle-oo.)

Pabs and Esme in a kayak looking nothing like William Levy in a kayak. Later they sit in front of the bay and listen to the voice over. Love lasts forever. When Pablo said he would love her for eternity he meant it. When he dies it won't be goodbye but "see you soon." Esme's voice over swears she would live a thousand lives with him!

Mariano has come to the mansion and Jarocha notes he's a little bummed. If it weren't for his dumbassery with the BPOE and his dad's assholery with the BPOE then Fer would still have his fortune at his disposal. "And if Damian kicks the bucket (petatearse)?", Jarocha asks. As his mother, Meche would become the "heir apparent" (heredera forzosa pretty fancy schmancy definition there, Spanish legal dictionary.) Uh oh. Jarohca explains that Meche is not his mom. She never had him registered legally. If Damian dies, everything will go into public assistance (Mariano used the term beneficencia pública) All will be lost!

Parte Tres
Jarocha is upset to hear this news! Mariano explains that El Sil won't be able to claim anything or prove he turned over his assets to protect himself from a legal action against him. If Damian dies, El Sil will be left in absolute ruin!

Esme and Pabs talk about their future. The plot is not furthered at all by this, but it takes up time.
  • Pablo wants a passel of kids (that would be enough to make a soccer team.
  • He will continue painting and they will live in Italy for a while. Esme will teach kids all day long.
  • Esme is so happy he's not the kind of guy who doesn't want his wife to work.
  • Pablo insists that he and Esme will conquer the world! He's going to paint for foreign collectors and be a great muralist for the Mexicans that contract him.
  • Esme tells Pabs she's learned so much at the institute and she has a surprise for him, but she's not going to tell him yet.
They have other lines, but I got tired of writing all the schlock down. Then we get a poolside scene where he carries her around and makes like he's going to throw the differently-abled girl over the railings. Har har. So freaking funny. Why does the music sound so funereal? We get a kind of pretty shot of rose petals on water.

Finally, the tune gets a little happier and they open a bottle of champagne. Apparently Dan has never seen a cork pop. The look on his face was one of goofy surprise and excitement. Dan did seem to hesitate as he took a sip, but he didn't grimace.

Remember folks: Say no to towel swans. (Thanks, Diva)

Mariano and Fer discuss Dam. The doctors have little hope and can't operate yet (remember this in 10ish minutes as the episode ends....) Fer applied for a loan and was turned down. They can't let Dam die. Fer knows the case will come before the judge soon and he can't ask for another postponement. Mariano feels so sorry for all the harm his father has done. Fer tells him he can't blame himself for what his dad did. Mariano swears to completely support and fight for Fer. Fer is just worried about how all of this will affect Esme and Fela. They both hope that Esme will be back from her trip soon. If she knew about Dam, she would surely be with him.

Doc Hottie whines about not being able to have Esme and missing her.

Esme and Pabs canoodle and take selfies. They've been through so much, but it's just made them stronger. Viwerville has been through so much, too. It's just made us angrier and stronger in our resolve to never see a Latoodle-oo production again.

Mariano visits Augie at the apartment, but not to talk to him about his drinking. If Augie wants to die an alcoholic, Mariano says that's his choice. No. Mariano is there for his conscience. Surely Augie and El Sil can come to some agreement and settle out of course. Augie thinks there is. All El Sil has to do is return everything to Augie and Augie will leave him in peace. Mariano doesn't think that's much of a settlement. BOTH parties have to agree and what Augie has proposed leaves El Sil giving up everything and Augie giving nothing to the man that was wrongfully accused and sent to prison for a long time. Unfortunately, those are Augie's terms. Mariano had really hoped his father had reconsidered, but he hasn't Augie is betting everything that he will win. Augie yells that El Sil is also betting everything, but Augie has irrefutable proof and all the aces are in his hand!! Now what the hell does that mean? Am I forgetting something important?

Couples massage. Pabs carries her back to the room on his back after the massage. His phone rings and Esme is finally in the loop about Damian.

Esme has run to Dam's side and we get another voice over from Jarocha and Meche. Esme has not left his side. La Gata has matured so much and learned so much at the Institute. She's a warrior! The first thin Dam will see when he wakes up is Esme's face and he will like that. Esme notices how cold Dam feels and asks the Doctor about it. Doctor announces that Dam is unconscious (no sh*t, Sherlock.) Dam is responding to treatment and will be saved. Really, because some doctor told Fer and Mar there was little hope?

Another non-cliffhangy ending. Jeez, folks...try to at least make me *want* to see Monday's episode.

Avance
Gisela has a rock... a real one, not Pabs.

Honestly, I could have done without the beach trip. I'm ready to start wrapping some things up.

Yikes! Hey, Damian, if you could, like, not die, that'd be greeeeeat!

Lorenza is so over everybody's crap.

El Sil has had so many opportunities to bring abundant joy to his loved ones, yet he is waiting for the "limpiar mi nombre". Cutting off the scrawny ponytail would go a long way towards neutralizing my annoyance with him, though.
J in O

Before I forget...

Just say "no" to towel swans!

J--I'm with you on the tail. It needs to go!

Huh, a bevy of lawyers and nobody thought about transferring everything to Damien in trust for Esmeralda or even putting a beneficiary on a checking account.

Who's gonna pay for that 80's themed resort, weekend?

Lila, you mentioned MST3K yesterday and expected the towel swans to began comment on our love birds.

Now that's just crazy: Esme still having obstacles placed in her way though.

Ugh. And Damian had all the "proof" of Fer's innocence in that envelope. Hope it's not lost!

So bad last night I can't even comment. QTH!!!

But what happened to the envelope? Scattered to the 4 winds, still on the side of the road, wedged up his crack? No one even mentioned it.

emeraldrose- I didn't think the scene with Rita, Dorila and Centavito were too bad. At least it hinted at something interesting. But yeah the rest is all a poor attempt at prolonging a story.

tofie: "up his crack" lol!

I noticed another patient dragging their legs while the upper body did all the work. What the hell kind of PT are they doing?

Well at least Esmeralda and Pablo finally had a, what about the future, conversation and a meaty one it was. Travel to Italy and paint on walls in Mexico.

I only saw the moment when Lorenza slapped Gisela - yay! Sara, looking forward to your recap to find out what happened to Damian.

Lila, I just caught up with your mst3k recap and that was some inspired, creative writing. Sensational.

I must amend my previous comment, I had to smile at the baby boy he is so sweet and he too looked like he was trying to figure out QTH as well.

Part one (up to the first commercial break) is up.

Crap. I forgot a scene where Pabs and Esme talk about trust. She believes he didn't do anything blah blah blah. I'll add it later.

Gracias for Part 1, Sara!

"round one of the WTFWWF" love it!

Drugged Pablo is more convincing that Not Drugged Pablo. At least Drugged Pablo has a good reason for being so out of it!

Ah, Diogenes. How long has it been with no pay and all he does is keep threatening. And now he has no leverage. Before, he had "I'll let the crazy lady go" as a bargaining chip. Now, he has nothing. I predict his anvil will be death at the hands of Augie, or at least under Augie's orders.

Hey, David, did you leave that bottle of booze in the pantry. High five!

"He's come to tell them that Damian has been in an accident. A terrible accident." They always take so long to say stuff like this, all they do is make it worse for whoever they're telling to "stay calm." "Stay calm" or "be strong" or "brace yourself" all imply that whatever's coming is BAD.

Ooh, tofie, good point! Banks usually want a clear idea of who gets what, just in case. I'm surprised they got away with that. My money's on "the envelope is long gone." Or, nearly as bad, stuck in the files of the cop who's "investigating" the accident as evidence.

Is it possible that we've misread the signs and Dorila is Damian's mother and not Carlos'? Can she just not be anybody's mother? Nobody deserves that!

Kat, I was also running down the Dorila was Damians mama route too.

Esmeralda said that Pablo didn't get wasted and knock boots with Gisela because he doesn't drink. Yes he does, they were having Champagne at the KOA Resort.

Drugged Pablo does not seem all that different from Not Drugged Pablo. Hah!

I have a fear that Dorila will try to claim to be Damian's mother to get her hands on the fortune. However I remember earlier scenes when Damian, Centavito and Gata were kids and Damian was older. It isn't like you could confuse the babies when they were three or four years apart in age. Well...maybe these people could.

Fer's crack legal team seem to be idiots.

I loved Lorenza's smack down of Gisela.

Whatever happened to Meatball? Not that I want to see him, but why did they ever put that stupid plot line in with his wife being in love with Fernando and then drop that entirely?

Hey folks! Part two is up. I'll probably finish up tomorrow.

Kat, tofie and LN-Oh! Y'all have given me something to think about with Dorila and Damian. I have a vague "hinky" feeling about this plotline, but I'm too lazy to really think it through. I'm really glad I can mooch off the cerebral power of Caray.

Gracias por Parte 2, Sara!

I think you're correct. Based on the article you linked to "congestión alcohólica" is alcohol poisoning. I guess Augie thinks if it's good enough for Amy Winehouse, it's good enough for him.

"Now Damian is in a coma and can't even sign a check! What will they do?" Did they not think that it might be a good idea to have another authorized signer on the account, just in case?

"Everytime those two lovebirds get a little happiness, something comes along to ruin it (and her name is Latoodle-oo.)" Word. Although, she missed a prime opportunity to give us nothing but fun happy vacation time and then drop-kick us with the news of Damian's accident. The constant back-and-forth just made the vacation "meh," knowing what they were going to come home to.

"Pabs and Esme in a kayak looking nothing like William Levy in a kayak." But it was enough to give me flashbacks :D

Mariano did seem very natural holding Hat Baby.

"Esmeralda said that Pablo didn't get wasted and knock boots with Gisela because he doesn't drink. Yes he does, they were having Champagne at the KOA Resort." I wonder if she just has a different definition of that. To me, when somebody says "I don't drink" I tend to think they mean that they don't drinking anything with alcohol in it, ever. But I think this isn't the first time on one of these shows where somebody says "I don't drink" but they have wine with dinner or champagne when toasting. Like, somehow, to them, that's not really "drinking." Or it's not really "drinking" if the person doesn't get sloppy drunk. I dunno.

LN, maybe Mrs. Meatball will make an appearance at the long-awaited trial, having suddenly remembered something important that she conveniently didn't remember back during the first trial.

I seem to remember a grimace after Pabs tasted the champagne. Maybe he was surprised because he asked for the sparkling cider?? I'll pay close attention when I get to it.

Maybe he winced because they gave him the good stuff. I am not a fan of dry champagne. Give me the cheap, sweet stuff any day.

Thanks, Sara. My fave: IMO Drugged Pablo doesn't seem all that different from Not Drugged Pablo. - lol.

Damian was the one stable person in this thing, now this. Dang.

So it looks like Dorila is not Carlos' mom, since they got no "call of the blood" for each other.

It doesn't seem that Carlos belongs to her, does it? I think all we know for sure is that Dorila was the one that brought him to Rita. Do I remember that correctly?

Dorila would have to have blood, or a heart, or a soul, for La Llamada de la Sangre to work, I think!

The only reason I think Dorila is the mother of whatever child she gave to Rita is that she's still invested in Rita keeping that secret and seems to be paying for it herself, or was before she disappeared and now is again. If it's someone else's secret and all Dorila did was hand over another baby, I would think she wouldn't care as much whether Rita rats her out or not.

Could Dorila just be delivering someone else's money?

Though I'm with y'all that Dorila is keeping her own secret and not another person's secret.

I don't even know how she's getting paid to work for Lo and Augie. Or where she sleeps, since I don't think there's room in the apartment for her.

Just crazy. No one is that loyal. As Eli would say- Oh the f*ckery!

Hey Sara! Watched the episode late and just finished your recap! Absolutely fabulous girl! Totally enjoyed it and thanks for the shoutout. I'm not surprised they had Damian get run over and also failed to mention the IMPORTANT PAPERS. Everyone has brought out all the important points. I have to say I did enjoy those sweet babies but they were only my second favorite scene. Best was Lo slapping --repeatedly-- the snot out of Gisela! Whoo Hoo! Thank you!
**********
Thank you tofie!

Hi, Sara.

Boy, you're all over this thing. Love your depth and opinions.

5ft, I did not leave that booze in the apartment. My shipment hasn't arrived. I can't understand what happened to it.

I have a suggestion for the inscription on Augie's headstone: "En momentos como este es cuando mas nececito un trago."

Esme tells Pablo, "Mi corazon es tuyo." What, in addition to running out of ideas, they're running out of dialogue too, and have to steal lines from Silvia Navarro?

I didn't think it was smart for our paraplegic Esme to be sitting on the edge of that bridge over water.

David

David--me too! Even when Pablo was carrying her around, swinging by the edge of that precipice like he was hauling a big bag of rice, I had alarm bells going off in my head about him dropping her over the edge.

Are they really not going to have the "delicate operation to restore Virginia's sight" storyline? So disappointed, that seemed like a sure thing.

And where, where is the woman who is finally going to deserve Mariano's love???

J in Oregon

About to start working on the final installment.

J in Oregon- I feel your pain. There are so many interesting possibilities in this show that they could have used to extend it, but no. Instead we get ridiculous getaways where Pablo has to carry her around everywhere.

Why the hell didn't she have surgery? Correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't she still have had to go to the Institute for PT? I mean, one DOES need PT after back surgery and a car accident, right?

Then she could have been on this trip and able to walk with a cane or clinging to Pablo.

I'm getting seriously pissed off at this show. Grrr.

And so help me, if Mariano meets his lady love at Esme and Pabs' wedding I'm going to be mad. That is always such a cop out (I'm looking at you Fuerza del destino.)

Stick a fork in it, it's done!

Fernando should agree to what Augie proposed RIGHT NOW!! He should sign over EVERYTHING he owns immediately and get the legal problems taken care of and then when Augie starts to salivate and gleefully rub his hands together in anticipation, Fernando should just smile, hand over the documents and walk away with his head held high. Then a close-up of Augie as he reads that he got NOTHING because Fer OWNS nothing, so he has a heart attack and drops dead! Then Damian wakes up. The End.

That's a perfect ending! Too bad the writers aren't thinking!

Thanks, Sara! How much better is this than the episode! A little over 8 weeks to go, hunh? Or does it sound better to say 42 or whatever it is?

If Uni would pull out the scissors we could wrap this mierda up in 4 weeks.

Is this coming on Christmas Day, anybody know? Thanks!

Sara---Calmate! You're getting yourself so worked up I'm afraid that you will ruin your Christmas.

The sweet, romantic short vacation
of Esme and Pablo was nice. A lot of kisses, they were so enjoying each other, there was great scenery, a beautiful lake and yes a kayak adventure. Ok it's agreed
that Pablo doesn't look as good in a kayak Levy but Maite has him beat a every way. Maite for the Mexican Olympic kayak team? YES!!

David---So funny, they're running out of dialogue and have to steal
lines from Silvia Navarro. MCET

Augie did a good job with that whisky bottle. I was cheering that Augie was finally back to his old self.

5ft.---Can Dorila just not be anyone's mother? Nobody deserves
that.----Well what about Rita?
the gringo

Sorry, some bad mistakes. A bad habit of mine. I am always in such a rush to get my comments published that I always don't proof read them and correct my mistakes. My bad. I need to try and break that habit. I hope that you guys can figure out what I was trying to say.
the gringo

Maite definitely gave William a run for his money. I enjoyed seeing her in something other than black as well. Loved that coral colored tunic she wore.

Yup, it's done and a good one at that. Thanks

Telling ya, Fernando's got no business with a lot of dough. Only reason he did have some was Augie was holding it for him and he was locked up for 20 years. Dude is stupid.

Augie - "I got stoned and I missed it
I got stoned and I missed it
I got stoned oh me oh my"

Pablo - and, we'll have our own country and theme park, Broken Promiseland

Damien - I know, I know, look both ways

Lorenza - bang, zap, bam, boom, crash, kapow

Virginia - screw you dad

Dorila - and there's another 5 in it for you if he never knows I'm really his dad

Esmeralda - let me put it this way, been doing kegel exercises at the institute

Gracias for part 3, Sara!

"Fer applied for a loan and was turned down." That was a real head-scratcher. I'm sure he knew he'd be turned down, so I don't know why he would bother, except to be able to say that he tried everything he could.

"Viwerville has been through so much, too." Ain't that the truth! I can't recall a show being this incomprehensible in so many ways. I think word salad as dialogue is a new low.

"Augie has irrefutable proof and all the aces are in his hand!!" I guess he's talking about the Blank Paper of Evil? I thought he had printed something on it giving him administrative control over his fortune. Maybe he hasn't printed it yet and came up with a better idea.

"Well what about Rita?" Ha, gringo! I can't tell how old Rita's supposed to be. Either she's older than Dorila or she's just less well-preserved!

tofie- you're so bad! I can't stop laughing at your lines for Dorila and Esme.

Kat- yes! Word salad! That's exactly how they are writing. Like those little refrigerator magnet poetry kits.

Esmeralda - let me put it this way, been doing kegel exercises at the institute.

tofie, that is funny as hay-yull!

That so fits! She said it was a surprise didn't she! Girl, you are crazy-creative!

This comment has been removed by the author.

Thanks, Sara. I have to agree with your assessment: "Viwerville has been through so much, too. It's just made us angrier and stronger in our resolve to never see a Latoodle-oo production again."

It was good to see Esme staying tough enough to threaten a wheelchair slam on Gisela. Nice for Lorenza to vent some of her anger in slapping Gisela.

Esme loves and trusts Pablo enough to enjoy an idyllic time with him on holiday. Her earlier life and upbringing in the dump gave her a limited outlook, so she can't see beyond Pablo to any other possibility. :(

Damian was my rock, my tower of intelligence and honor. Can't believe no one thought of a second signer for the account.

Augie is always a sure thing for stupid and selfish stuff. He should end up with Dorila as his sole caretaker.

LN- About the Meatball, Corazon Indomable did this thing where certain characters were dropped for an indefinite time and then brought back so La Gata must be doing that too. That disturbed me most in the aspect of Carola and Raiza. They were sisters and Carola ended up in jail bullying Maricruz until the truth was told (an informal but proper return for her) while Raiza was never heard from again (although her and Maricruz ended on a good note.)

"Her earlier life and upbringing in the dump gave her a limited outlook, so she can't see beyond Pablo to any other possibility."

Thank you La Paloma, you articulated perfectly my thoughts on Esmeralda. (and this show)

Though everyone seems to think Esmeralda some demigod, they've failed to convince me. The dudes like her cause she's purdy, not for her brain and other than Augie, no dude hates on her (but he is crushing on her mama). Old hags & some young women hate on her because she's purdy too, but only Virginia, (whos blind and actually the one woman that should get promoted to god), Jarocha (Esmeralda was the only female that would talk to her for years), Mercedes (runs hot & cold) and Fela (her mama and batshit crazy)think she's a princess. If Esmeralda really can walk on water, why she in that chair on terrafirma and have to use a kayak in the lagoon?

tofie, I have the same problem with Esme and Pablo both. They're pretty, but lack substance. Maybe we're supposed to be watching with the sound off.

I second tofie's thanks to La Paloma. You know, Esme's original plan was to take a trip with just Fer and Fela. I wish the writers had gone with that instead of the ridiculous Institute plot. Esme could have seen the world and maybe learned to not depend so much on Pablo. And gee, maybe the three of them could have had some heart to heart conversation and Fer could have finally revealed the truth.

But I guess it's useless for me to think about what might have been.

I'll preface this saying it is not scientific but anecdotal.

So, whenever I've traveled, given of time and money or done business abroad, I want to know cultural nuances, you know to walk a mile. Many times, what is on the TV speaks volumes (if there is more than one channel and not propaganda), particularly if there is domestic production and if there is sophisticated targeting of segments of the population to be consumers of their product.

Now, I've been to Mexico many times and thought I had a handle on it but then started watching TN's, while here in the states. My head says, of american programing, if it is on at 7 and not a sitcom or show that revolves around solving a crime (my little grand niece calls them "dead body shows") it likely may resemble something for an adult so I expect the same from Univision or Telemundo. I be way off here. So, I have separate conversations with two female Mexican friends on opposite ends of Mexico's social, economic spectrum (a really, really have and a have not) and I bring up La Gata & Latoddle, doddle do and they both laughed at me. What? Uh, it's on at primetime, got major hot headliners, good guys, bad guys, squalor and some necking. They said this is not something new, Hollywood churns out guy movies and chick flicks and targets those that actually buy tickets and watch. La Gata is a romance show for teen girls and stay at home young mothers and both said Latoddle doddle do is brilliant. Well, slap my pappy, I don't fit into either demographic!

Yuck. That makes it sound like the objective isn't even to entertain, just "fill up an hour in the schedule." It sounds like the way my dad and husband both describe the appeal of those bad Saturday SyFy movies...you can turn on the TV and go about your business and you don't really have to watch it to understand what's going on. I just don't expect that to be the kind of show that's on at 6pm on a major network.

Exactly why I wish Uni would stop putting the 4pm shows in the evening slots here in the states. I think they got lucky with Refugio and now they think it will work every time. That may explain why PSMA didn't do well. Not very much pretty and you kind of had to actually follow a plot.

The producer of the one that followed La Gata mainly does teeny bopper stuff so Uni really needs to think carefully about what they put in the 6pm slot. Then again, I'm no longer in the coveted 18-25 demographic.

Which then makes me wonder...Was I so dim when I was that age that I would have eaten up a show like this? And in all honesty, I did watch American soaps during the summers and didn't care much that they made no sense and weren't going anywhere. I was mostly watching for the smoochies.

Kat, that was my thought and retort as well, but they point out and I agree, many productions struggle with an identity crisis and if in the US are canceled or if a movie go straight to DVD. Here, when Univision is in, they are all in and if they want to bump up a show start combining episodes. Now, when I put my teen girl hat on, the thought of a beefcake with good hair carrying be about, is kinda hot.
Don't get me wrong, I hate this tripe but then again, I cannot believe I thought Donnie Osmond would ask me backstage when I went to an Osmond Brothers concert, eons ago. I actually remember arguing with my brother about it.

My students do seem to love Lola, Al diablo con los guapos and Rosalinda.

I've started Cuidado con el ángel and right now they are caught up with the pretty, but I can tell the reception is a little lukewarm. But we've only seen maybe an hour and a half of the Dvd.

Lol...yes, I was going to be in a band. With two friends who didn't play instruments, but hey, it was the 80's and you only had to know three chords and be able to apply eyeliner and Aqua Net!

Ah, Aqua Net. In the 60's my mother had that big 60's do and the bathroom mirror and my nose hair was sticky with the stuff. Thankfully, in my teens, long stringy was ok.

Speaking of hair...er, sort of...I always like the way they style the characters for "vacations" more than the usual look. Esme had those salt-water-waves going and the only thing holding up Pablo's 'do was the wind.

I always wonder if the stylists recognize that salt water and wind will wreak havoc so they do bother getting too fancy.

Don't bother.

It did give me kind of a giggle, though. If Esme's natural texture is super-curly, then she should have been back to her original hair. Perhaps I'm supposed to assume that part of her makeover included a keratin straightening treatment? And that she's been keeping regular appointments with her stylist despite all the drama? And being locked away from the world at the Instituto?

"Sorry, Pablo, you can't visit. I need to be away from everyone for a while."
"Oh, ok. Your stylist called to remind you about your appointment tomorrow, should I cancel it?"
"Ay, Pablo! Are you insane! Hair appointments are sacred!"
