La Malquerida #80, 12/16/14: Slap Her Again, Cris!

Mexico Episode #86

Cristina has just castrated Esteban and handed him his cojones as a parting gift, by telling him his services aren’t needed in Benavente, Rubio’s in charge now, and don’t let the door hit ya on the way out. I try to muster up some sympathy for him and fail.

Ale is praying in her bedroom prison for strength and peace. Dan arrives to disturb that tiny bit of peace and demands to know what she’s doing. He snatches the sacred heart card out of her hands and mocks that she’s praying to be free of him. Ale sasses back that she’s praying for him. Always on the lookout for ways to manipulate Dan, get some freedom, and help someone else out, Ale tries to convince Dan to give Perla her store/spa. Primarily, she plays up that she and Perla hate each other and that Perla is on her case all day. She wants to get Perla out of the house more. Plus, Ale points out, Dan keeps saying that he will change for her, but by going back on his word to Perla he shows that he hasn’t. Dan only hears the first part and is excited that Ale is jealous of the attentions he shows Perla.

Esteban starts to go off at Cristina for making such a decision. German’s arrival puts an end to his rant. German informs Cris that his people are already looking over her other animals and they and he are there for whatever she needs. Cris lets him know she’s back in charge of the hacienda, and Rubio is her right hand man. That gets a startled look from German, but hey, it’s Cris’ hacienda. Cris points out that with German and his people there she’s very well supported, so there’s no need for Este to go out of his way and he doesn’t have to worry. He doesn’t put up much of a fight and leaves. Acacia scowls.

Hector, Ulises and Katia have dinner and talk about Cris. Hector reproaches himself for pining for Cris when he’s the one who told Uli that he can’t live in the past. Katia doesn’t understand his obsession with his old flame when there are plenty of other women (“ahem…me, me, me”) who would die to be with him. Hector ignores that overture and toasts—“That’s the way love is, Katia.” Uli is happy that Hector is looking out for both Cris and Acacia. Katia shakes her head. She doesn’t get it. She thought women were complicated! Hector chuckles and they toast again.

Acacia follows Este into the dark interiors of the hacienda. They start a little hate fest on Cris, for making this rash decision that could put the hacienda and Acacia’s inheritance at risk. Acacia agrees that Cris is being unjust with him. Este takes this as a perfect opportunity to continue his seduction. “As you can see, what was between your mother and me is now over…Cris has no interest in me.” Acacia points out that he is still her mother’s husband, but he doesn’t think that will be for long. “I need to be free for you, Acacia.”

Uli and Arturo catch up over glasses of LaLa milk (they’re growing boys). Art has resigned himself to just being friends with Luisa. Uli is still disturbed by his visit to Ale’s house. He found the whole thing of her living with her husband’s mistress strange, and Ale herself seemed odd and sad. Art says that he’s heard the same from Luisa. Uli says he cares about Ale a lot, and wants to make sure she’s ok. (Go, Uli, go!)

Acacia continues to play her indecisive game. She tells Este that she doesn’t want them to divorce because of her. (Too late, missy!) Este says it’s not their fault that they love each other. Acacia claims she can’t be happy at the expense of her mother’s happiness.
A: Understand that this is a forbidden love.
E: Why? You and I don’t share the same blood. It’s just by chance that you became my stepdaughter.
Looks like Acacia might be falling for Este’s reasoning, when they both hear Manuel fumbling through the dark yelling Acacia’s name. Este whispers in her ear that he loves her (te quiero) before running off.

Norb really is ceding to Juliana’s demands for their reconciliation—being more attentive and wooing her. He makes and brings her favorite margarita, along with some snacks and a beer for him, on a tray to her room. He toasts to their reconciliation. But Juli isn’t in the mood. What she wants to do instead is butt in at Benavente and pressure Cris once again to accept her friendship—now that their workers and German have helped her out. Norb points out that she’ll just make things worse. Juli thinks it’s high time Cris got over her “tantrum” (berrinche) about losing her baby, and forgave her. (Yes, that bitch actually said that.) Norb tries to get romantic and physical. Juli pushes him away and says he promised that they would go slow. Norb says no worries—he’ll sleep in another room. Juli wants him to also agree that he won’t be unfaithful. Norb sets her straight. He knows she’s there for the money and appearances. And he puts up with it because he loves her. But if too much time goes by before she wants to be his mujer (have sex), then he’s going to find another mujer. Juli can’t believe he would say such a thing! Norb says from now on they are going to drop the hypocrisy. Perhaps it’s best that their relationship from now on be open. He takes his beer and leaves.

Acacia and Manuel speak in the living room. She whines about Este leaving because Cris is in the stables. Manuel wants to help out and be a better person for Acacia. She says he has to do it for himself. He whines about his parents, making the excuse that they were the reason he got his drunk on the other night. He says it’s clear to him that when a couple breaks up, they shouldn’t get back together again, because they will just hurt each other more. (I’m sure Acacia takes this as a sign that God approves of her near-incestuous affair.)

Rosa and Luisa are exhausted after feeding all the workers. Rosa wants to make sure Luisa goes to the doctor soon. Luisa lies that she made the appointment. Rubio comes in to brag about how they never thought he would be good marriage material for Luisa, but now HE’s going to be the big boss at the hacienda, in Esteban’s place!

Cris tells Elena and Juan Carlos that it looks like they have things under control with the cows. Although it seems half of them are infected, the arrival of the vet tomorrow should get things under control. Cris is happy and smiling with her accomplishment; Elena and JC are happy too; Acacia rolls her eyes (let’s keep in mind that just hours ago she was upset that her mother refused to leave her room and get out of her sweatpants). Cris wanted to make sure Acacia’s inheritance wasn’t lost. Now that the crisis has passed, she wants to talk to Acacia. JC and Elena leave them alone.

Cris starts by saying she knows these last many days, when she was so sad and mad, must have been hard for Acacia. Instead of letting Cris finish, Acacia immediately pulls an attitude and says angrily that it WAS hard for her! (Keep in mind that her mother just lost her baby 3 weeks ago—likely her last chance to have a baby.)
A: You have no idea of ALL that has happened since you locked yourself in. Why did you let Esteban leave? Why are you treating him like this?!
C: Calm down. Calm down.
A: He came to help and you ran him off in front of everyone and put Rubio in his place!
C: You’re the one who said that we needed someone to take charge, and Rubio was Este’s right hand man.
A: Well, I don’t trust him. But what I can’t forgive is that you humiliated Esteban in front of everyone!

Cris insists that she didn’t humiliate him--she just made things clear. Acacia insists that she did humiliate him.
A: Is that why you married him?! To spurn (despreciar) and offend him? Tell me something, Mama—is that the way you treated my father?
C: (SLAP!!!) Shut up!
She had that coming.

Rubio continues to brag about his new status. He’s sure Luisa will see him with new eyes now. She tries to tell him that even if he were the last man on earth, they were stranded on a desert island, and he had the only fresh water around, she wouldn’t consider him. But he’s too high on himself to listen. He’s going out to tell the workers who’s the boss. Rosa and Luisa are open-mouthed impactada.

Cris lays into that brat, Acacia. She respected Acacia’s father and she respects Este as well. Acacia says that’s not what she saw. Cris points out that it was Acacia herself who said Este can’t constantly be called to resolve problems with the hacienda that are no longer his (she said this when she pushed for Este to no longer be admin). Acacia says she’s still not in agreement with Cris’ decision to put Rubio in charge. Cris demands to know if Acacia has a better solution than to put the capataz, who was the admin’s right hand man, in charge? Acacia is at a loss for words. She has no suggestions or solutions; only complaints. Cris can’t believe she’s working so hard to get out of her depression and fix the hacienda problems, only to be faced with all this opposition from Acacia! Acacia backs down a tiny bit and says that Rubio has to be supervised. Cris says of course. That’s what she was planning to do. “And if one day you actually take charge of this ranch like you say, first start by maturing!” (Oooh, snap!)

Norb visits Julianita at the brothel for consolation while his mujer is still being cold to him. J-nita is happy to help. They make out. On the other side of the parlor, Perla shows Dan her displeasure about his decision to not support her store/spa. She wonders how else he is going to launder his dirty money. They interrupt Norb and J-nita sucking face, but it’s the maid interrupting to tell them about the unexpected visit of Esteban that gives them all caras impactadas. Norb heads upstairs with J-nita, while Dan goes outside to meet Este. He tells Este that a friend is using his house for a private party and he can’t invite him in. Este is all apologies for the interruption and for missing their meeting earlier that evening. He tries to explain about the cow fever outbreak, but Dan gives him a hard time and plays him perfectly. He’s a master manipulator, just like Esteban, and makes Este feel guilty about wasting his time and not being a serious businessman. Este swears it won’t happen again, and invites Dan to accompany him to Mexico City to meet with the factory owner. He leaves Este hanging and says he’ll think about it. Dan then brags to Perla that it’s all about tactics and strategy. He’s taught Este that nobody screws with him!

The next morning, Este meets up with Acacia in the cow stables. He says he’s come to define his relationship with Cris. Before they can get into a compromising situation, Norberto arrives and they pretend to be talking about the vet. Norb gives his condolences over the cows and pledges the help of his sons. Este scoffs at Manuel’s abilities to help, as Acacia runs off. Norb warns Este not to badmouth his son. Norb changes the subject. He wants to know what issue he had with Pererra (cotton guy) and why he doesn’t want to do biz with Este anymore. Este says he’ll find a new cotton buyer for Cris and Acacia. Norb throws in his face that he heard that Rubio is in charge now.

Rosa hears Luisa upchucking in the bathroom. When she emerges, Rosa fusses over her. She needs to go see the doctor. Maybe she has amoebas in her stomach. “Because…it’s not anything else, is it? Have you behaved yourself, Luisa?” Luisa denies, denies, denies. Rosa apologizes. She knows she raised Luisa to be a good girl, and she acknowledges the mistake she made when she thought Alejandra was pregnant. She refuses to let Luisa go work with Art that day.

Este finds Rubio in the cow pens and roughs him up. Cris made a mistake by putting Rubio in charge, and he’s not going to allow it!

Ulises is once again in Ale’s home sweet brothel, having coffee with Perla and discussing the fact that Dan wants the money back and no longer is interested in purchasing the lot. A visit from Memo distracts Perla and allows Uli and Ale to chat. They hug happily. Perla takes Memo outside to speak, and Uli catches a few of Memo’s words as he heads out the door. Uli’s ears perk up at the familiar voice. Ale asks him what’s wrong. Uli says it’s the voice of the guy who kidnapped him!

Rubio points out that he’s always been loyal to Este. Este says that it’s not about loyalty, but capability. And it’s Rubio’s fault that the cows got sick since he didn’t quarantine the new cows that brought the disease. Este says Rubio needs supervision, and he won’t allow him to destroy Acacia’s inheritance. Rubio promises it won’t happen again. And who better than him to support Cris and Acacia?

In the house office, Norb is polite and downright chivalrous to Cris. He’s happy to see her doing well; it was his pleasure loaning out his workers to help; he takes her hands and kisses her cheeks farewell. Cris seems a bit shocked by this gallant version of Norb. He leaves, and Esteban comes in practically foaming at the mouth about how Cris is trying to ruin him, after all they have been through together to save the hacienda. Cris points out that he’s no longer in the house and the hacienda is no longer his responsibility. Este puts on a good show about how Cris rejected him and threw him out because she didn’t want him around as a reminder of the baby that they BOTH lost. Cris acknowledges that this is true. She knows her reaction caused more pain. Este says that her rejection has humiliated him, even in front of the workers. Cris says she’s sorry, but her only intention was to leave him totally free!
E: Free? That’s how you want to leave me?
C: Yes. So that you can make you own decisions without feeling tied down by a marriage.

Back in the brothel, Uli insists that guy is his kidnapper and wants to run outside. Knowing how dangerous this is, Ale tries to dissuade him and encourages him to be absolutely sure before he makes such an accusation. Outside, Perla tells Memo just who Uli is. He panics and ducks down in the bushes as Ale and Uli come outside. Perla tries to distract Uli by telling him to just leave the paperwork for Dan to look over, and she’ll bring the signed docs to him. Uli goes to his car for the papers. Perla wants to know what Ale told Uli, and reminds her that she can’t be outside. They go in, and Memo emerges from the bushes.

Este tries to find more reasons to hang around the hacienda, like finding a new cotton buyer. Cris shuts him down and says that’s what Rubio is there for. He points out that Rubio isn’t prepared for all that. Cris just wants Este to leave info on what he was working on, so that she can take over from where he left off. He makes a big show of being hurt and offended and leaves.

Rosa is not pleased to see Luisa working in the kitchen when she should be resting. Rubio and Chucho come into the kitchen and Rubio is enjoying his new role. He tells Chucho that if he plays his cards right, he might make him capataz. Rosa tells Rubio not to get too big for his britches, because Esteban might be back soon. Rubio isn’t listening. He only has eyes for Luisa and tells her he’s doing all this for her, to give her everything she’s always dreamed about. (Neither Rosa nor Luisa are as creeped out as I am about this little speech.)

Acacia and Este run into each other in the hallway. He tells her that Cris has just given him his total freedom. He turns on the manipulation again, making himself seem like Cris’s victim/plaything, who she just threw away. He tries to muster up a few tears, but is incapable. No matter, because Acacia falls for it. She tells him how hard she worked to make Cris reconsider her decision, and how she defended him. She suggests that he go far away. He says his life would be hell without her. He tries for another tear, and fails again. Instead he goes for the “let me run away quickly before you can see the bucket of tears I’m about to let flow” trick.

Back in the brothel living room, Perla looks over the paperwork, while Uli and Ale sit side by side on the gaudy love seat. Perla says she’ll bring the signed papers to him, but he insists on coming back to pick them up, that way he and Ale can continue to catch up. Perla does not like this at all, but can’t do much about it. She fusses at Ale about all her buttinsky friends after Uli leaves. Perla warns Ale not to mention Memo to Uli. She sends Ale back to her bedroom prison.

Memo comes back. He wants to know what Uli was doing there. He’s happy that Uli didn’t recognize him. Uli never saw his face during the kidnaping, but Memo still feels he has to be careful. He wants Perla to go away with him. She wants to know, with what money? Her business is now a bust, and she doesn’t have any johns anymore because he doesn’t want her to. Where are they going to get the money? Memo wonders if Dan is suspicious about them. He points out that Dan has never valued her, while he (Memo) loves her. She says she loves him too, and they kiss.

Rubio comes running into the Benavente living room to tell Acacia that the vet is all done and everything looks good. Acacia warns him about taking this job seriously, and not abusing his power like he did the time he got physical with Luisa. He promises that won’t happen, and says she will see that he’ll be even better than Esteban. Acacia dismissively laughs in his face, and says he can only prove that with deeds, not words. He then tells Acacia, in his creepy, machete fondling way, that he’s going to be totally loyal to Cris…and to her. Acacia doesn’t speak Creepy, like Esteban, Dan and Norb do, so Rubio just needs to come right out and say, “I know you’re playing tonsil hockey with your stepdaddy, and I’ll happily keep that dirty secret for you…for a price.” In any case, since she doesn’t speak Creepy, Acacia gets uncomfortable and leaves.

Elena has coffee at a café with her number one son-in-law choice, Hector. She thanks him for what he did for Cris, and points out how he’s always been able to make Cris happy and help her. He thinks Cris just needs time and patience. He pledges to always be there for Cris, as a friend…or as more than a friend if Cris decides that’s what she wants.

Uli waits for Memo to leave the brothel and stealthily follows him.

Cris gathers all the workers and family in the kitchen. She thanks them for their care and concern while she was unwell, and says she’s now taking back management of the hacienda. Her door is always open for them to come to her with any issues. She also thanks them for their help the evening before with the cows, and gives the good news that the vet says most of the cows will be saved. Jubilation amongst the workers. Acacia is giving attitude through the whole thing. Rubio interrupts to try to act like a tough, responsible boss—warning the workers that they can’t become complacent about the cows. Cris takes the opportunity to announce that Rubio will be her second in command. There is grumbling amongst the workers. Cris publicly warns Rubio that she won’t tolerate any abuses on his part. Cris dismisses everyone and JC proudly embraces Cris. Acacia gives them the stink eye and complains about Rubio again. JC says he will help control Rubio, and Cris thanks him. She happily says the three of them (Cris, Acacia, JC) can take the reins of the hacienda. Cris and JC hug happily.

German hangs out with Lizy in the market and helps her put merchandise away as an apology for ditching her the evening before because of the cow crisis. He then presents her with what she had asked for—a drawing he’s done of her. She loves it; she loves that he knows every part of her face so well. She caresses his face, as she lists all the parts of it she loves and kisses each part. They smooch.

Perla excitedly tells Dan that Uli came and brought the paperwork. He gets concerned and mad that she let him in. She plays it off as unimportant—he briefly saw Ale and greeted her. Dan’s not really interested in looking over the papers and gives them back to Perla to review. The maid informs them that Esteban is there, so Dan hustles Perla out before Este can see her.

Perhaps it was seeing her grandpa congratulating and hugging Cris, but Acacia finally readjusts her attitude. She comes to tell Cris that she wants to help her with the hacienda, and she’s happy that she’s emerging from her depression. Cris thanks her and hugs her. Elena interrupts to bring Cris a nice surprise- Hector. They greet each other happily, and Cris thanks Hector for all he did to help her. Acacia’s bitchy attitude returns.
A: Then it was because of Hector that you finally reacted?!

Dan shares his tequila with Este, and makes him beg for a partnership with him. He finally relents and agrees to the partnership and a buddy road trip to Mexico City. Dan can see that Este is very relieved, and Este admits that he’s betting everything on this deal. Music to Dan’s ears.

Luisa meets with Manuel in front of his house. He wants to know if she did the abortion already. She tells him that he never again has to worry about his child. He says that in time she’ll see that it was best for everyone. Luisa tells him that she knows what is best for HER, and returns the abortion/hush money to him. She would have happily accepted it, if it were to support and feed their child, not to kill him/her. He wants to know how she paid then. She says it’s her business how she fixed her problem. He cynically thinks she went running to Art. She slaps the money in his hand, and says it’s a shame that it’s not nearly enough money to buy him manliness (hombría).

Acacia sarcastically tells Hector that she’s happy he’s the one who got Cris out of her depression, because the rest of them couldn’t. Cris tries to explain that it wasn’t just Hector, but Acacia is not listening. She snottily thanks Hector and leaves. Hector is surprised by Acacia’s attitude. Cris says that she really needs Hector’s help now. He asks her, what about Esteban?

Avances: Esteban pulls out all the stops in wooing Acacia and pressures her to take the risk and run off to Mexico City with him.

As soon as I saw “Cristina has just castrated Esteban and handed him his cojones as a parting gift”… I knew you were bringing it Vivi! And did you ever!

"Juli thinks it’s high time Cris got over her “tantrum” (berrinche) about losing her baby, and forgave her. (Yes, that bitch actually said that)": "I’m sure Acacia takes this as a sign that God approves of her near-incestuous affair)" and "(Keep in mind that her mother just lost her baby 3 weeks ago—likely her last chance to have a baby) were splendid. Your vocabulary translations were a real treat.

I was blown away by your passionate and insightful comments. You have outdone yourself (not an easy task). This was wonderful.

Cris' management style - strong, focused, inclusive is superior. Although it makes me ill to agree with Ickacia on one point, Rubio is the only chink in her armor of ownership. I hope JC is vigilant - Rubio will bear watching. And closely.

As Rubio proclaimed his God like status, the looks of shock and awe on Rosa and Luisa's faces was priceless.

Danilo is weaving his web and Este is going to be caught. I'm unsure exactly what Danilo has in mind, but whatever it is, I'm all for it.

Uli won my heart last night. His genuine concern and caring for Ale was apparent. Recognizing Memo's voice was a much needed break - so glad he came back and decided to follow him. Hopefully, he apprises Hector.

I loved your title and have to admit, Acacia got off very easy. Her disdainful, condemning attitude is loathsome. It is so evident there is much amiss here, when are Cris, JC and Elenita going to acknowledge this??

"Art has resigned himself to just being friends with Luisa". I hope this is not so!

What a thrilling way to end the show "She snottily thanks Hector and leaves. Hector is surprised by Acacia’s attitude. Cris says that she really needs Hector’s help now. He asks her, what about Esteban?"

Gone, baby, gone...

Vivi, thank you, thank you. I have an all day meeting but look forward to catching up chiming in later today.

Diana

LOL, Diana! Gone, baby, gone, indeed. Let's hope he stays gone. But we know Este's going to be hovering, even if it means hovering around Cris, in order to be close to Acacia.

Uli also continues to win my heart. I'm glad someone is not taking Ale's forced smile as the truth, and trying to get to the bottom of it. And now it's led to him stumbling on one of his kidnappers.

As Uli and Ale sat side by side on the couch, a fleeting thought of the two of them ending up as a couple came to mind. Especially seeing that German has gotten over his inability to draw anyone's face but Ale's. But I don't think Uli and Ale can get over Acacia and German so easily, nor that they would cross that line with a friend.

I don't think JC, Elena, and Cris know what to make of Acacia's attitude. One day she hates Esteban, the next day she's his biggest supporter. One day she's supportive, concerned daughter, the next she's attacking and undermining her mother. How could they know that her own guilt is behind these crazy mood swings. Cris tried to start a conversation about how her weeks of depression have been hard on Acacia, and I'm sure she thinks that's the main reason Acacia has been acting so odd, but Acacia shot her down and started the insults and recriminations before Cris could even get started.

Not knowing that the reason behind her mood swings is her guilt over her affair with her stepdad, if I were Acacia's family I would think her crazy mood swings are due to a chemical imbalance or something. I'd be as baffled as Cris.

VIvi..thank you for that great recap. You have a way with words , and I especially appreciated the conversations.

Ha...Este wants to "define" his relationship with Cris. Haha..It looks like Cris did the defining...Adios, Este.

Does anyone watch "The Affair" on Showtime ? It is a story sbout a married man with four children having an affair with a young married woman. It shows how their affair affects so many people. In the last episode, the wife kicks the guy out after he tells her that he is in. love with someone else and she finds the other woman's bra in his drawer.

I had to laugh at Este and Ack making out in the cow barn. I grew up on a farm with a herd of steer. Many of my friends lived on dairy farms. Cattle barns are not places that inspire desire. Did you notice what the cows were standing on ?

Uli recognizes Memo's voice...a piece of the puzzle.

Yes, DIana...the spider has just woven his web and caught the fly. Este is too distracted by his desire for Ack to realize that he is dealing with the devil now. Bye bye , Estedoomed.

Great, Vivi, your recounting of detail with insight stunning.

"Cristina has just castrated Esteban and handed him his cojones as a parting gift"

So, Cris finished the job she began after Esteban left the first time. I think it overkill and she did humiliate him in front of everyone. The buzzards are already circling.

"(Neither Rosa nor Luisa are as creeped out as I am about this little speech.)"

I wished this was not so after Rubio's king of the world speech, but it is.

Esteban is a fool to entertain the delusion Acacia is really in love with him. She'll use him, run him out on a limb, and cut it off. She did it to Uli, with Esteban it'll be easy.

I thought the same about Uli & Ale as a potential match, especially with German presenting a painting to Lizzy.

Esteban got punked by Cris LOL.

Morning Susanlynn, Tofie and Steve.

Susanlynn- I actually felt sorry for the actors who probably had to spend half a day or more in that cow barn filming makeout scenes. I bet they were wishing for some green screen technology instead. :)

I don't have Showtime, but have read reviews on The Affair, since I like the main actress from BBC shows (Luther; Jane Eyre). Certainly, Este and Acacia's affair is doing and will do major damage to the family.

Tofie- Yeah, Cris is being really harsh with Esteban in her desire to push him away and give him his freedom. But I can't say I feel really bad for him. :) And the first time they broke up, when he made the choice to leave, I felt she was right to take back admin rights to HER ranch. He's the one who chose to leave and wouldn't give her any assurances that he intended to come back.

I am watching the episode right now. I noticed that Uli used his cellphone to snap pictures of Memo greeting some guy at a place in the woods.

I am not so worried about German falling for Lizzie. That was just a sketch he presented to her not a huge painting like he made for Ale. A good artist can do a sketch pretty quickly. I have not given up on Ale being rewarded in the end with her onetruelove, the big sexy adorable German.

Vivi..I had classmates in high school who had to milk cows before they came to school every morning. You always hoped that you didn't have to sit next to them. Actually being in the cattle barns....sometimes overwhelming .

Este is about to pay for killing Alonso . His midlife crisis (forget the cow crisis) will cause him to lose everything that he killed for. Here comes karma.

I really did laugh when I saw how hard Este was trying to dredge up some tears when he was speaking to Cris and Acacia. He's in full manipulation mode right now, which makes it sweeter to see how Dan is manipulating him.

I actually see Esteban in full desperation mode and even Dan noticed. He hasn't many options and those that appear are traps. Norberto, Rubio, Juliana, Manuel, Danny and Hector, all can hardly contain their glee, he's on the ropes.

I see it frequently in TN's, the seemly unselfish release of a partner as something noble but the reasons are really self centered. Cris wants Esteban to leave so he can find someone to have children with, because she can't, and instead of sitting down and discussing it (not wailing and having a fit) she practices a scorched earth policy in front of everyone. She's treating him like a teenager who got too big for their britches. If she doesn't want him anymore, dispense with the game and say it out loud, to him.

I'm cutting Cris a lot of slack. The woman just emerged from a deep depression that very same day! And she didn't just manage to get showered and dressed, she managed to take leadership of a giant hacienda and numerous employees. This is no small thing, I'll forgive her for not yet having her head on straight about what she wants to do about her husband (who she senses is not really in love with her anymore). Knowing Cris, once she has a bit more time to think and reflect, she will clearly states what she really wants with regards to Esteban. If he really still loved her, he wouldn't be doing the whole scorched earth thing either, and would understand that she's barely coming out of her depression and needs more time to figure things out.

Excellent recap (as always) Vivi!

Welcome back Chris!!!

Glad Norbie gave it to Juliana straight about not living a life of hypocrisy and proposing an open relationship…can Juliana handle the truth?!?

At least Acacia admitted that neither she nor Manolo know anything about the cows to be helpful.

Hilarious - the look on the faces of Norbie, J-nita, Perla and Danilo when the maid announced Este-desperate arrived.

Yay!! P. I. Uli is on the case and with video!

Will anyone use Cris’ Open Door Policy to complain about Rubio?
Besides Este-gone and Ack...

In reality, that talk with Hector would not be enough to snap Cris out of a depression after losing her baby. However, add to that the problem with the cows and Cris might have been able to get herself moving. When you are depressed and grieving, just DOING something..anything is what moves you up and out of that pit of depression. Cris had to get herself up and going to save her hacienda, her livelihood, her family.

As for her dealings with Este, the guy who KILLED her beloved first husband and the guy who really, really, really wants to boink her DAUGHTER.....he deserves nothing. He is not the victim here.

Thanks, PBN!

I certainly hope the hacienda workers take Cris up on her open door policy. There is NO reason for them to take any crap from Rubio. If Cris would dismiss her own husband, she certainly won't be putting her hands in the fire for Rubio or take his side against the workers.

P.s. Cris dressed all in black looked completely like the boss . You go, girl. I had a flashback to Big Valley.

Susanlynn- ITA. I think it was a combination of Hector reminding her of the woman she was and pointing out how much Acacia and everyone needs her, PLUS the very urgent and immediate cow crisis that got Cris going. She even speaks about her depression as something present/ongoing, not in the past tense. I think right now she's in fake it till you make it mode. Not yet out of depression, but working to get there.

Oh Vivi---What a masterpiece.
Too late missy!

They both hear Manuel "fumbling" through the dark.

Cris lays into brat Acacia.

Ulises is once again in Ale's home sweet brothel.

She, Acacia has no suggestions or solutions, only complaints.

Acacia is giving attitude through the whole thing.

My very FAVORITE---Luisa says it's
a shame that it's not nearly enough to by him (Manuel) manliness. OUCH!!!

The patio peeps are so blessed to have such a great recapping team on La Malquerida---every one of you are SUPER and I REALLY mean that.

A new one for the longest list of names in Novela history-Estedoomed

I can't believe how good the La Malquerida cast is. I pretty much like and appreciate the cast and their acting abilities in all of the novelas that I watch. However this one goes above and beyond. Practically every cast member should get a novela Oscar for their work in this presentation. Acacia, love her or hate her is unbelievably great in her role. Esteban's blank dufus stare. Both Cris and Ale's hurt, anguish and pain. Perla's pitiful life with hope and aspirations for her future. Luisa, German, Manuel JC and the devil's soft tones followed up by rage. Rubio's half I got you sly grin smile. This novela is something to really get excited about. I can't wait for tonight's episode.

Several commented yesterday that they didn't want to see this one edited or shortened to hurry it's
ending. Commenting on the Caray blog may be helpful if the staff of Univision reads it. I suggest that you guys let your feelings be known for sure by going to Univision Corporate and commenting there. I did yesterday.
Let their editing department know that HANDS OFF of La Malquerida should be imperative.

Vivi, I take that in consideration and the fact Esteban really wants to be cut loose on his terms but my issue is, if the relationship was salvageable and if she really believed he was devastated (as she is or more so) and wanted a child so badly he would rush to another woman, why wouldn't the two of them discuss openly the death of this particular child and what the options were instead of in public running the guy off?

I think Cris snapping into action was because of three things. Two as you guys note, Hector's calm insistence she regain the Cris of yore, the crisis of the cattle and she wanted to prove she didn't need Esteban there for anything. I was wondering if she would tear into JC for calling him.

Hey Gringo! If the TVyNovelas award was about anything other than a popularity contest, then I would say La Malquerida's cast would be awarded. There might be a few awards since by 1/3 into the tn, the ratings finally picked up in Mexico. It has not been so fortunate in the US, ratings-wise. I think Lo Que La Vida Me Robo is the shoe in for most of the dramatic awards this year. Frankly, I like the LM story more, and am WAY less offended by the taboo of a stepdaughter having an affair with her stepfather, than with a woman falling in love with her rapist husband who bought her-- but that's just me.

Tofie- ITA. I hope that being able to talk about the baby's death openly and honestly with Esteban, and her feelings about him and their marriage, will be the next step she takes on her road to recovery. One step at a time. She took a HUGE one this episode.

Thanks for the recap!

Susanlynn, I agree with you about Germán and Lizzy. I think he does care for her, but he won't be able to fall in love. I thought the same thing about his sketch of her. It's true that he did do a pencil sketch of Ale when he first saw her but of course he ended up doing a beautiful painting of her. He did tell Hector a while back that it was hard for him to draw/paint Lizzy because of his feelings towards Ale.

I agree that the whole Ack/Cris/Este thing is just laughable now. Este may not succeed in being a master manipulator. Especially not with Cris. I think secretly Rubio is glad he's taking Este's place. He's the
boss man now...sort of. Although Cris is watching him closely and hopefully he won't cross a line again with the rest of the workers.

Este was THIS CLOSE to discovering Dan's humble brothel...I mean abode. Dan sure likes to par-tay. I'm still wondering what his deal with Este is. Norbie sure enjoys Dan's "parties". I'm glad he put his foot down with Juliana. Of course he was going to suggest them having an open relationship.

Hey, TF! I think Rubio is more than secretly happy to be taking Este's place (sort of). He's practically jumping up and down with glee, and singing from the rooftops. :)

Creating art is very emotional. When my daughters were very young, I took an art class with the art teacher at the high school where I taught. I drew large pencil sketches of my older daughter at age one and my younger daughter in her baptismal gown and my nephew about age one. I think that I did a pretty good job, but I was not as good at drawing still lifes. My teacher told me that my emotional connection to the subjects of my portraits helped me to drew them.

Right Vivi. Rubio is happy he's climbing up the ladder BUT he could fall hard...you never know what could happen. For now he's got the bragging rights so to speak.

Dan is somehow going to use Este to launder his drug money. Perla was expecting to do that with her beauty parlor before Dan decided not to set her up in business.

Susanlynn- I think just by investing his drug/prostitution money in a legit business, Dan is starting the laundering process. Just as he was going to do by investing in Perla's salon/spa. The main issue is that sooner or later Este, and the other textile biz partners, would ask questions about where all Dan's money is coming from. He needs Este in his pocket before it gets to that point.

Let's not forget that one year where Rosy Ocampo beat Angelli Nesma so I see QPTR winning the award for best novela. Then again, FELS won best novela over QE , Guapos, Palabra de Mujer, TEEP, Juro que te Amo and Alma de Hierro so anything can happen.

BTW I'm not dissing LM, if anything I'm comparing Robo to FELS.

I think we all know Dan does everything for his own benefit. I think Perla still thinks he will change. Obviously Este doesn't know Dan well enough to see that he plays dirty. I think some of you have said before that there may be betrayal amongst these villains and since Este seems to be turning to the dark side...if Dan discovers his secrets by eavesdropping on Ale's convos with Acacia he could use that against Este.

No time to catch up with my favorite show till later tonight. Vivi, your title is lol!

Have been in a meeting today and what a joy to read everyone's comments.

As gringo noted this is certainly something to get excited about. I will just say LM is my favorite TN of 2014 for certain. Depending on what happens, it may be my favorite. Period.

In terms of awards? "I like the LM story more, and am WAY less offended by the taboo of a stepdaughter having an affair with her stepfather, than with a woman falling in love with her rapist husband who bought her-- but that's just me". Yes Vivi, Nuff said.

There is hope Hector. Wait. Just wait for Cris' answer to where has Este gone.

TF and Susanlynn, I do not want German to fall in love with Lizzy! He belongs with Ale.

Can't wait until 10.

Diana

Neither do I, Diana! German and Ale are meant to be together. I told someone on twitter last night that if they don't end up together I will throw away my TV or throw something at it!

DIana...I am glad that you could end your day with some fun discussion about this interesting story after an all day meeting...yikes. We all need a little escape every day from the slings and arrows of outrageous reality. I cannot wait to watch my recording of tonight's episode tomorrow evening after I give my final exam and post the grades.

Good luck with giving and grading your exams, Susanlynn! Don't be too hard on your students.

I just spent the evening with about 30 current college students. All had just finished exams, and boy were they relieved to be done and on vacation.

The show is starting soon!

Damn Arturo is fine. He certainly is the most, "my type," guy on this show. German and Ulises are amazing too but German is claimed to death not that there is anything wrong with that LOL.
