La Malquerida #81, 12/17/2014: The Greatest Danger is to Not Take Risks
Reír, es arriesgarse a parecer un tonto.
M: It’s like you said the other day—I haven’t done anything to improve myself. To the contrary, I’m…sometimes I feel like garbage.
Labels: malquerida
Translating the poem and the important conversations was so appreciated. It added to the depth and dimension of your marvelous summary.
"She blames her nervousness and need for alone time on the strain of having to deal with Cris during her weeks of depression". As loathsome as these assertions were, there was something even more despicable about Acacia's lie about the flowers. If she had simply lied about them being from someone other than Este, that would have been bad enough. But to say that she got them for her mother made my heart lurch. Her treachery continues.
While I was thinking Este is the monster here, I think he is not alone. Frankenstein had a bride - I grimly ask you to make your own comparisons.
“I’ve made so many mistakes that I don’t know if I can change.” Bless German for trying to comfort his brother. Manuel uttered the truth. Sympathy? No. None.
The most touching scene was Hector hugging Cris. His obvious love and the happy smile she wore sheltered and comforted in his arms said it all.
I give Luisa credit for telling Arturo how she really feels, although I yelled "foolish, foolish Luisa" at the screen. I hope Arturo moves on. I think if he wasn't always available to her and perhaps showed interest in someone else, she might realize what she is missing.
Juli may have driven both her sons away with her selfishness, unfathomable indifference and cruelty. German looked absolutely disgusted, can we blame him???
Wonderful Uli, still trying to help Ale with only a strong hunch something is amiss.
I love how our galans Hector, Arturo and Uli stepped up!
I'm going to have to read this again. There was nothing you omitted Viv - simply riveting.
Diana
Well, I am off to give the final exam. I will be back later.
As so much is going on, I have a lot of anxiety of doing tonight's recap and will be counting on you and the other bloggers to help fill in what I will surely miss.
Diana
Diana- Don't worry. We'll all help out with whatever you can't catch. I intended this to be a short recap, but then every conversation was so filled with meaning that I felt the need to elaborate. I looked up one line from the poem and found the whole thing. Then translating it was pretty easy. I thought it was important to include it, since the theme of risk and change ran through this whole episode.
Uli is risking his life to find justice for himself, and to help his friend Ale.
Cris is taking the risk of losing Este, while she tries to make positive changes in herself and find the woman she used to be.
Ale is taking risks every day to stealthily undermine and bring down Dan.
Memo and Ale are daring Perla to take the risk to change her life and get away from Dan.
German and Acacia are daring Manuel to risk changing himself.
And of course, Este is urging Acacia to take a risk on him and their "love."
I'm also very concerned as to what will be cut - there is not one storyline that doesn't deserve to be told in its entirety.
Diana
I caught most of the poem but thank you for completing.
I'm glad Ulis got a scent but kept telling him to please be careful. A misstep and he's dead.
I cannot dredge up any sympathy for Manuel and applaud German when he told him to stop blaming their parents and take personal responsibility.
I am barely staying away through most of this. I have also surfed in and out of most of the story for my "usual" reasons, but I love the actors and will hate to see ANY of this story cut by the Uni shredders.
I'd like to kick Acacia from here to Kingdom Come. I dislike this character. I want her to end up with block head (literally) Este. They deserve each other.
Ever the bad guy, I am ALWAYS mesmerized by Guillermo Garcia Cantu. Vivi in DC, do you know if he has ever played a good guy?
I loved, loved the green coat he was wearing the other day. There is some very interesting detail to the collar line in that coat. It looks so European. I'd like a version of it for myself.
Diana, amiga, NONE of us are in the least bit worried about what you will write for us. I am eagerly waiting for your recap!!

I know the coat you are speaking of that Norberto wears. I like his look, necklaces and rings and all. :) ITA that Guillermo Garcia Cantu, like Alberto Estrella (Dan), is riveting when he's on screen. Both great actors. I've never seen GGC in a good guy role, and a quick look at his Wikipedia page shows the last time he played a protagonist, and not antagonist or supporting role, was in 1986! Clearly, he's good at being bad (or at least at being a gray character).
Bombard Univision Corporate with emails not to cut La Malquerida, I say. Make your voices heard.
It looks like Luisa cannot seem to make herself fall for Arturo.
That's so sad. Does that now open the door for sell people to the devil Rubio? I hope not. Will a new guy be brought in or will Luisa go it alone? Will she change her mind about Art?
You all know that I care more about Luisa than Ms. bikini, but it is going to get interesting on the bikini front. I mean tonight with Cris showing up to spoil Estebone's romantic evening with young Acacia. Can't wait to see how that develops.
Cat Dan is away---will mouse Ale be able to play or find a way to move things along with a plan for evil Dan's downfall?
DanEvil is not too sure about Rubio's ability---JC isn't sure either. The only guy that has any confidence is Rubio himself.
I wonder who will screw up first,
Rubio, Perla/Memo, Este? There's a lot of room for error out there.
the gringo
Este has some nerve calling Acacia "mi amor". Ick. Looks like Rubio may get Acacia in trouble with Cris tonight. He sure enjoys egging Este on. This is just getting crazy.
I too liked the scene with Germán and Manuel. At least Manuel does admit that he feels bad about Luisa. Although Luisa is doing the right thing torturing him a little bit. I'm glad German told his mother off. I just can't believe that Juliana is happy that her grandchild is "dead". She has no heart and I guess neither does Norbie.
I'm actually surprised that Memo suggested to Perla that they form an alliance with Ale. I understand why Perla is scared but I honesty don't think Ale wishes anything bad on her. She just wants to take down Dan. If Ale reveals the truth to Uli he could really be of help. And maybe if somehow Hector gets involved that would be good for Ale.
One more thing, a couple of these characters (Manuel and Rubio) need to have some respect for their elders (Hector and JC). Right off the bat Manuel was like "Can I refer to you with "tu"? And Rubio touching JC...weird.
I’m having trouble believing the formerly savvy Este is suddenly a rube in front of Danilo. Este telling Dan that everything for him was riding on this deal seemed off. Before, Este sensed that Danilo wasn't quite legit. I'm wondering if Este knows more about Danilo than he's showing us, especially since he asked Rubio about the ho house a while back.
Memo's and Perla's clothes were a bit askew when Danilo interrupted them. My guess is Danilo is on to them and biding his time. Perla, watch your back. Memo, whatever – you stood by and did nothing when Patricio took Itzel and raped her.
Yay, Luisa turned Arturo down! Arturo deserves someone who's in love with him. But Luisa, sorry you don't get to be the sole parent. It was already a done deal when the sperm hit the egg, so Manuel can have rights if he chooses.
I fear for Uli. Hope Ale tells him the truth. Better he sleuth knowing what he's up against, than to sleuth in darkness. Plus Ale will crack if she doesn't get help from someone soon. It's amazing she's not self-medicating just to get herself through the nights with Danilo.
Your attention to detail and all the time you take for us, is just wonderful Vivi in DC. You are a gem!
gringo, I agree with you that we should write to Uni corporate. Will try to get that done today.
Also: do we know who is playing in the new TN that they are now advertising? Does it look to be a "substantial" story with good actors?
Fatima
I always enjoy your comments...
Yes gringo, it looks like Cris shows up at a most inopportune time. Yikes.
Niecie, so you think Dan "sees" what is going on with Memo and Perla? I agree that Memo acted despicably not intervening for Itzel and Perla lost 90% of my sympathy long ago.
TF, I think Luisa deserves far better than Manuel. He couldn't clean up his act enough for me to ever be worthy of her. I like the bond he and German has though. German is great with everyone. I think he might be instrumental in catching Rubio during one of his illegal doings. We can only hope.
Diana
It is very hard for me to stop thinking about our Mads. I think of her every time I come to our comments here.
Fatima
Gringo- I don't think there is any way that Luisa ends up with Rubio. I think the thought of it would send her back to the bathroom to barf. :)
TF- Ale has to tread very carefully about what and how she tells Uli about what's going on. She doesn't want him to do anything rash and get hurt. Although, I think Uli is more levelheaded than to do anything rash, she doesn't know that. The reason Uli and Art decided not to tell German anything about their suspicions is precisely because they think he'll do something crazy and get himself hurt. And he would.
Niecie- I think Este's escalating obsession with having Acacia has resulted in him being less savvy about his dealings with Dan. He's losing control.
I am very afraid that Dan will fly into a rage over something and knock over the end table and find Alejandra's hidden stuff. That would be horrible for her.
Fatima---I think about Madelaine a lot. She helped me with answers to my questions so many times and her comments were always so well thought out. Madelaine, one of Caray's best will be remembered for a very, very long time.

Vivi you're right. Ale and Uli need to be careful. Maybe it's a good thing Ale has a secret phone so maybe she can give Uli information.
I just finished reading the new comments.
Hi, Farima. So good to "see" you here. I think about Mads a lot , too. She was such a positive, upbeat part of caraycaray. We were lucky to have met her even if it was only through the computer. Her personality shone through her recaps. She knew this Novela was going to be good and coaxed us to watch. I am so glad that she did. I cannot wait to see how the story unfolds tonight.
Nosy Rosy Rubio is going to get himself killed. He is always sulking around eavesdropping on everyone..creepy.
I think of Mads every day. I am amazed by how much a person I never met in person has touched my life. I so enjoy chatting with all of you, and hope that you are all having a wonderful winter and holiday season.
