La Malquerida #82, 12/18/14
#82
A Father and Son Bonding. In a Brothel
Part 1
Este is waiting to hear from Acacia, which does not escape Dan’s attention as they wait to meet their new partner. During forced conversation, Dan gets a call that someone has a young girl for him. Keenly aware of Este’s discomfort, Dan suggests a young woman to celebrate his newly single status – such as Dan has with Ale (as we cringe in revulsion at the thought). The partner arrive, stifling any further conversation on this lurid topic. The three adjourn to an office to discuss plans after which Danilo makes haste to leave.
Juan Carlos is wheeling out Acacia’s suitcase as he frets. Acacia reassures him she will be fine in the safety and comfort of her childhood home, his house. Of course, they are observed and Rubio scatters like the rat he is and calls Este with the exact location of where he can find his vulnerable prey. Este asks if he is sure she is alone and practically salivates in delight as he hangs up.
Uli anxiously stares at Ale and relays his concerns. He tells her Memo was one of his kidnappers and asks her what exactly does her husband’s business entail? He realizes little Juli is observing as Ale hesitates and demurs. Uli quietly whispers encouragement.
Hector shows up and Juli takes advantage, asking him to take her for coffee. Juli paws his arm to no avail as Hector seriously asserts he is Cris’ friend and does not dispense the slightest iota of encouragement, support or sympathy Juli’s way. She huffily stalks away.
Luisa visits Ale and shares she is pregnant with Manuel’s child, disclosing her news with little Juli and Perla firmly within earshot. Is that Norberto’s son Juli inquires? Ale tells Luisa she supports her and she is not alone. Luisa states she went to the clinic but couldn’t proceed with the abortion. She says the baby is hers and hers alone. Ale hugs her and tells her she did the right thing. Juli and Perla make themselves known and after Luisa leaves, the girls talk. The topic turns to Memo and Perla smiles sweetly and asserts she is happy. We silently admonish her to be happy while she can. We suspect their happiness will be relatively short lived.
German and Hector have coffee. German is very unhappy with his mother and tells Hector as much. He then gives Hector an envelope of pictures we can’t see. Hector raves and shakes his hand. I suspect the drawing he did of Lizzy is there as German asserts Lizzy is a good woman, looking as though he is trying to convince himself as much as Hector. Hector’s revolving door yields yet another visitor – Uli. They engage in conversation about Cris and of course Este is mentioned.
Diana
Cris, Elenita and JC discuss Acacia’s return to San Jacinto. Hector surprises Cris with a dinner invitation. He brings up San Jacinto, Acacia and they discuss the exposition. Cris asserts he is an excellent lawyer.
In the little shop of wished for love, Lizzy has prepared an intimate dinner for two. She and German share pieces of pasta and kiss. Little food is ingested as the kisses and yearning factors ramp up. Lizzy invites German into the back room. Are you sure he asks? After, I get the feeling all might not have gone well, can someone fill in here? As they emerge from the back room, Lizzy’s father shows up with a baseball bat and runs German off.
Manuel (in desperate need of a twelve step program) is drinking and calls German who is otherwise occupied. The bartender dispenses booze and bad advice, telling him to go to Dan’s brothel. Manuel arrives and who should open the door but Juli Jr.! Manuel is being “smothered” by several women, showing no pain. Norberto shows up and father and son ask why each other are there. Little Juli flies into Norberto’s arms as Manuel stares. Norberto is my father he says. Norberto asks Manuel’s fawning companions to leave. Norberto blames big Juli of course and he hugs her younger version in front of his son. What a marvelous role model. Perla reproaches Juli as Norberto inquires about Danilo. They leave and Perla looks ill. Perla tells Ale Norberto and Manuel are here – Acacia says he is a disgrace. Elsewhere, in a far less lively house, Juli Sr. is at home with an untouched feast obviously prepared for Norberto. Realizing he is womanizing elsewhere, she cries. Why, I wonder? It was just last night she spurned his advances – could it be a reaction to Hector’s obvious non interest?
A fool enters the kitchen drinking beer and Norbie arrives, brandishing some special tequila. It appears Rubio’s services are in high demand. Luisa comes in and gets some water – I could not follow their conversation but Rubio did look concerned.
Acacia calls Cris and asks if she is having dinner with her parents. No with Hector she responds. Acacia listens rather sternly and Cris says she loves her. Hector notes Acacia is her daughter and therefore, very important to him. Cris thanks him for a wonderful time. He kisses her chastely on the cheek and mentions the exposition. He then encourages her to go to San Jacinto and leans in to give another kiss, sly dog. A slight smile plays around Cris’ lips.
Acacia reads Este’s poem for the 10th time, vacillating between fondling it and wanting to rip it to shreds. Este springs out of the shadows and Acacia greets him by pouting about her mother and Rubio. Este smarms and slithers and manages to convince her to dine with him, practically licking his chops. He ramps up the seduction attempt which seems to have Acacia lowering her defenses slightly. He drops her off and kisses her on the cheek. Cris interrupts the moment by calling as Acacia beats a hasty retreat, thank you she says, rushing out of the truck. Este opens a jewelry box and smiles wolfishly at its contents. When they speak again, Cris asks Acacia if she is upset because she had dinner with Hector. No she says – she realizes they are friends and asks Cris to convey her love to her grandparents. Este shows up yet again and puts himself at Acacia’s disposal.
Dearest Dan returns home with presents all around. And as a dvd player wasn’t enough – he reveals yet another surprise. A lovely, very young girl enters as Danilo preens and introduces her to Ale, his wife. Ale’s expression of surprise, outrage and sadness brings a lump to our throats.
Previews: Este presents Acacia with a ring and we are teased yet again by the image of Cris looking as though she has seen something unexpected. We shall have to wait and see.
Diana
This episode was just wow. First with Manuel going to the brothel then Dan bringing a new girl in to work at the brothel.
I'll be back tomorrow with more of my opinion on this episode.
-Hector told Juli that he is not interested in her as a woman. He's only interested in her because she is Cris' friend and German's mom. He then said he's in love with Cris. That why she left in such a huff and decided to make nice with Norb.
-German couldn't perform, which is a good thing since Lizzy's dad would have caught them in the act. German actually likes that Lizzy has normal girl drama like a strict dad.
-Perks freaked out about Manuel in the brothel, because he's friends with Acacia, Ale's bff. If he comes with Acacia h would be able to link Dan with the brothel, which is dangerous. That's also why she had to stay out of sight since Manuel knows her as Dan's ex/mistress/biz partner. She wanted to make sure Ale stayed out of sight, and said that Ale brought them troubles and bad luck like a black cat.
-Juli Jr. and Perla heard Luisa mention that Ale thought she was pregnant by German. Ale had to clarify to them later that she isn't and never was. They discussed having kids. Ale says her brother was like her child. She loved having him to take care of. Juli Jr can't stand kids. She has many siblings and resents having to support them. Perla always had the hope of having a family with Dan. But it never happened. There was mention of how they don't get the benefit of a nice abortion clinic, so it seems Perla has had to abort before. Ale brought up that she has the opportunity to have that family she always wanted with Memo, but Perla thinks it's too late and she'll never get out of this life.
Vivi, thanks amiga for the important details. I knew Juli was ticked but didn't catch Hector told her loved Cris. I have a bit of a crush on him, I must say.
And no, I did not understand Luisa and Ale's discussion that Ale thought she might be pregnant by German. I hope Perla does not use that against Ale!
And yes "the ghost of her former self" is perfect Vivi. So many emotions played on Ale's face - I am sure she will do whatever she can to protect her.
And Vivi, one more thing. What did Luisa say to Rubio in the kitchen?
Diana
That poor young girl Danny brought home and Ale stares herself in the face.
Loved Juliana's indignant reaction to Hector shutting her down and he non pulsed.
German, it is nice to see normal but hate you will never appreciate it in Lizzy.
It was so funny when Norberto asked Rubio if he was going to a costume party in his new duds.
Didn't take long for Cris & Hector to start up. I know, they're just "friends". I'm convinced deep down one of the reasons Cris sent Esteban packing is she wants to date Hector. Be honest Cris.
Esteban is a slimy creeper like Rubio, just a little smarter and will work.
I don't understand why Luisa is ever in the same room with Rubio.
The dynamic between Norberto, Manuel & Juliana still sickly delights me. Father & son at the brothel, awesome. Will anyone ever tell Acacia about that fine young Manuel? Hope not.
After Norb leaves, Luisa expresses her distaste for Norb and the way he treats people like them (remembering the recent abortion argument). This makes Rubio concerned and he gets upset that Norb has done something to her and wants to give him a piece of his mind. Luisa denies anything happened, but tells Rubio he should be careful dealing with Norb- he will just use him, and he sees people like them as trash.
Tofie- Yeah, I think Cris is having a good time dating Hector. He certainly knows how to make her smile and laugh, and they share so many interests.
It would be nice if Luisa could avoid Rubio, wouldn't it? But it seems as though that is impossible.
Diana
Ahhh, now I see what has piqued Rubio's interest! Luisa's comments about Norberto...
I am still wondering how he is going to handle finding out Luisa is pregnant. No spoiler, assumption only, but if I were Manuel, I would be afraid. Very afraid.
And yes, Manuel is turning into the biggest loser here.
Diana
I have to post my grades online and do some chores before I can comment , but I have to say that I am really skeezed out watching Esteweird lick his lips and bite his tongue as he stalks Ack. And what was that odd grin he did ? He is way over his smarmy head with Damnilo.
Vivi..thanks for the details.
Juliana ..three strikes and you are out. She slinks back to Norb, but he is otherwise engaged with JuliJr. Que lastima.
Arturo Peniche (Hector) is one of those guys who gets better looking with age, I did not think that he was attractive in Alborada as the antagonist, but he has matured like a fine wine. Plus, he is intelligent, kind, clever, responsible...fine qualities...very attractive. Cris needs to get this lovely parting gift at the end.
Estelobo is even starting to look like the Big Bad Wolf. Yuck He is absolutely licking his chops over Ack. It looks like Ack will never give in to him. Unfortunately, I think that she, too, will get a lovely parting gift..sweet, responsible, misunderstood Uli.
I never saw Alborada but I can totally see Arturo as a villain. I think he is a total fox - for all the reasons you noted. I find him infinitely appealing. I also hope " Cris needs to get this lovely parting gift at the end".
I see Acacia alone at the end. This is not a spoiler - I have absolutely no basis - it's just my gut feeling.
Diana
But, in a way, I'm glad he and Ale aren't alone in a house. Aside from drop in visits from friend, she would have no human companionship - not that I feel Perla and Juli Jr. provide much in that area but...
Diana
When Rogelio was talking to Manuel and started to say "there's this place..." I was like "Oh dang" (I actually used a different word than "dang" though) because I knew right away what he was going to say. Manuel seemed attracted to Juli Jr. when he arrived. I believe he did say he wanted her. That's just weird. Father and son have the hots for the same woman.
Well I guess Este and Acacia didn't get caught after all-at least not yet. Eventually this will end badly.
Vivi, Juli Jr. did seem to not be able to keep her mouth shut. I'm surprised she and Perla were shocked that Ale once thought she was pregnant by Germán. I wonder how Ale felt that they were eavesdropping on her conversation with Luisa.
So now Rubio is doing business with all 3 of our musketeers. Yikes! I bet Norbie will somehow use Rubio as part of his plan to get control over La Benavente. I did get a kick out of him commenting on Rubio's wardrobe.
They've been drawing this out for some time. I can't see the writers playing this out to the bitter end. Something will have to give. Or not.
Although taboos are being broken left and right in this TN, I am just not convinced Acacia and Uli could ever end up together if/after Aca and Este sleep together.
I am totally convinced it will happen. Of course, as I am always wrong...;)
Diana
Although Rubio has no loyalty to anyone, I do not think he has forgotten how badly Norberto has treated Luisa in the past.
His ultimate loyalty will be to whomever not only pays the most but whom he perceives will help him the most as he plots and schemes to continue his ascent as lord of the manner.
Diana
Ugh, father and son both in the ho house. Norb was hilarious, first trying to fool Manuel that he came there to get his son out of that awful place and then, when Julianita greeted him as her regular, trying to regroup. A hoot when Norb motioned with his eyes to get Julianita to shut up. All in all, a funny, horrible, sick scene.
Poor big Juli. She finally decides to get with her husband because Hector (and Andres) rebuffed her, and Norb is out catting around again. She’s not a sympathetic person, but I still feel bad for her. Juli, cut your losses and get a job.
Perla was funny last night too, eavesdropping on Luisa confessing she is in a family way. I think Perla actually enjoys the normal-life stuff she gets to observe due to Ale’s presence in the house.
Acacia seemed less enamored of Este to me. Before, it was like she couldn’t stop herself from touching him. Last night she was more like trying to appease an old boyfriend you're no longer into. Is it possible getting accepted into college has made her grow up a weebit? I'm wondering if the writers are going to somehow make her worthy of Uli.
Mainly I just want to thank Vivi for the splendid Wed recap and Diana for this wonderful one.
I totally agree that Juli should get a job. Nothing is working for her so she should make herself useful and try and earn herself what is most important to her - money.
After thinking about what you said about Acacia's reaction to Este last night, I think you definitely hit on something. She did not seem as transfixed as she had been. Wonder if the heat will ramp up tonight?
Diana
I'm sorry your comment was lost - that's happened to most of us and it is so frustrating!
Thank you for your kind words. Look forward to "hearing" from you soon.
Diana

I noticed how the prospect of going off to college stole a bit of the excitement from the Este affair when Acacia got her acceptance letter and basically forgot that Este was on the phone. He's pushing for her to run off to Mexico City with him, but her mind is already starting to make plans for her freshman year in college starting in a few weeks/months. I don't think Este quite gets that his competition isn't Uli or Manuel, but the whole wide world and the future an 18-19 year old dreams about as they start an exciting next phase of their life.
When I saw the young teenage girl
that DanEvil brought to the brothel, my heart sank. Another ruined life??? The expression on Alejandra's face when she saw her was Oscar winning, the highlight of the entire show. Africa Zavala is marvelous. Now if she can just tone down that bright red lipstick.
Rubio was a sight to behold in his new I'm the big guy now, outfit last night. Is his new position going to his head?
"Will anyone ever tell Acacia about that fine young Manuel?" For sure they will never end up together. My vote goes for Itzel but since her testimony at the police she's been out of the picture and forgotten about. My guess is that Acacia will end up with Ulises. WHY? The opening credits show them together each night. Yes opening credits can be wrong but it is a strong indication.
Susanlynn---His midlife lust has him doomed. BINGO!
I have to admit that beautiful young Acacia is a strong temptation. Estebone was literally licking his chops last night, he's doomed. And let's not forget that he's a murderer. He's double doomed. This guy is going down. Maybe Estebone and DanEvil will go down together.
the gringo
Loved "double doomed". Great line.
I also think Africa is amazing and her finely tuned performance makes Ale believable in being brave yet vulnerable.
"Rubio was a sight to behold in his new I'm the big guy now, outfit last night" made me smile.
Well, it appears I am in the minority in not seeing Acacia and Uli together in the end. Acacia is still too young, self centered, too easily swayed and has a long maturation journey ahead of her. I know I sound very harsh but I truly think what she has done thus far is not forgivable. But I will say this. If things do not go further with Este and if Acacia tells Cris the truth and is forgiven, I will too.
Diana
Romy
Although sometimes I WANT to know what happens but overall am happier I don't know what happens until it actually transpires. Most of the time that is.
Diana
Exactly my thoughts and not only him but the whole peyton place at home. She's ready to bail.
I hope Ulis has a brain in his head and leaves Acacia alone. I wanted to smack Hector when he began to encourage him to get back together. Thankfully, Ulis shut him down.
Yes, Ack is ready to buy a beanbag chair , a laundry bag, and a new backpack and become a fresh frosh.
Romy..I like to be surprised so I do not like spoilers and prefer to watch events unfold. However, one of my students gave me a major spoiler that I am waiting to happen. One of my college friends always read the last page of a book before signing it out of the library. Some people do not like surprises.
the gringo
If she had kissed him once and then gone to her mother and been genuinely sorry, that would have been one thing. She has had flashes of momentary guilt, but nothing further. She has been raised by loving people and knows the difference between right and wrong.
I guess I'm digging my heels in on this one. Inflexible? Opinionated? Yes - guilty! ;)
I love how we can disagree but respect one another's opinions here. It would be so boring if we all felt the same!
Diana
Wouldn't Mads love our discussions. !
Well, only a few hours before we see what happens next.
Counting the minutes. Don't know what I will do once this ends...
Diana
Well my long comment didn't make it, but my "test" did.
Danilo acting like the young girl brought home for Ale was a puppy he was gifting her. And the jerk stands back proudly as if wsiting for Ale to squeal with delight.
Love, and I do mean love all the fine recapping, and delectable comments. I still am following along, mostly don't want to miss how Danilo comes to an end. He is the character I find the most deplorable loathesome and evil. i want justice served, (divine justice and human justice.). I want Chris to slap Esteban like crazy and give Aca a few good ones too.
If Aca was lucky enough to get Uli back, and then Itzel returned, it would not be too hard for someone to hint that something happened between them two when they were captives and she would totally believe it and turn into the hateful jealous wench and leave him. Uli would be bewildered once again. Predictably her family would say that Uli is making Aca suffer again. Yawn....
I hope you are able to comment more (or that your comments don't keep getting lost which must be very frustrating).
Diana
I admit that Acacia has pushed all my buttons to the point I start scowling the minute I see her.
And Este is a fool of course. Planning a life that will never come to fruition. Ummmm, right? With this, nothing is certain so that is my fervent hope - nothing here is carved in stone. Ack.
Diana
I smiled grimly at "Teresa is a saint". I don't think you are far off the mark!
I also don't see Aca as the heroine. I don't feel that her ending alone and shunned from her family and friends would be an unfair ending (similar to Teresa but without her Uli).
Hope you can comment more
