TELEMUNDO Y MENOS: THE FRONT PAGE: The Queen Departs, The Kings Arrive and the Woman of Steel and the Wretched Refuse just Keep on Ticking - week of Dec. 1, 2014.

As most of you know, Reina de Corazones ends tonight, Monday, December 1 (although a small band of Reinamaniacs will continue to tell the story one chapter at a time -- see the Reina page for details).

New Stuff:

On Tuesday, December 2, Los Miserables will move into Reina's former timeslot (8pm E/7C) leaving room for...

Tierra de Reyes, which begins that same Tuesday at 9E/8C slot.

Señora Acero continues in the 10E/9C time slot for now.

Enjoy!

LOS MIZ
Well, I sure was wrong about Abel; turns out he went off with the cute doctor instead of confronting the scruffy cop in Adriana's bed. But said cute doc was smart enough not to get involved with someone still on the fence about being gay and sent him home to think it over before things went too far.

Sor Amparo is truly dead, leaving behind a distraught Daniel, lachrymose Lucha and miserable Milagros. I thought the scene where Milagros was preparing her friend for burial indicated a much deeper relationship than mere collegial friendship.

The good nun's death casts a pall all around the hospital and I wonder who is taking care of patients while they stand around wringing their hands. Lucia, as usual is not doing nursing duties, but rather taking care of her never-ending succession of extra-curricular personal emergencies.

Roxana made some vocal sounds, so there is hope that she may once again speak someday, but when that someday will come is anybody's guess, because she is still obviously terrorized by Liliana's threat.

El Diablo is wounded and needs a place to hide away. Lily asks Radames to bail them out, but he balks, until they manage to persuade (under duress) Gaston to put him up as a houseguest.

The diablo household is dissolved under orders of Lily who seems to be taking charge in a big way. Eusebia is handed her final paycheck to which she plaintively asks "What did I do wrong to get me fired?" And Pablo, too. Told to lie low for a while

Lily manages to get Genaro to punch her in the face so as to appear to be a victim of assault. Not sure what sort of cover story she is cooking up.

I think the skinny girl cop (Marisela?) is starting to be on to Genaro. He was acting pretty nervous in headquarters and she was sort of scrutinizing him. Not sure how long he'll keep his cover.

That's all I remember; hope to hear from other Los Miz fans. And don't forget, we start the new time slot tonight 8PM on the East Coast

Is anyone going to watch Tierra de Reyes?
I'm going to give it a try.

doris I havent seen PASION DE GAVILANES or FELS. So ive decided to watch TIERRA DE REYES.

I did see FELS, but I'm tempted to peek at Tierra de Reyes now and then. I can't manage 2 hours of TV a night and I'm stuck on Los Miz with our small band of followers to the bitter end.

NvMv, Thanks for putting up our page for the week.

—Agnes in NJ

Thanks Agnes for summing up yesterday's episode! Although been busy I'm still watching!!

I too like how the cute doctor was smart about Abel. Love his calm and logical personality. And I think last week somebody asked what Abel and Adriana do; they're college students. I think they had a conversation in the beginning episodes about going or possibly going to graduate school in the USA sometime in the future.

Yeah, I thought the same thing about Milagros and Amparo! But then decided maybe not, Milagros kept calling Amparo her sister, so IDK. I wonder if in her grief Milagros won't be Lucha's ally like she was becoming to be.

& I'm having conflicting emotions about El Diablo. Although he is evil, if there has to be an evil person in charge I rather it be him then Lily. I wonder if he's going to get his anvil sooner rather than later. & et tu Anselmo?? Couldn't believe that he's going to help Lily topple his boss. It was funny though how El Diablo looked like he had to stay at a 1 star hotel when they were showing him around Gaston's house.

& thanks for the reminder about the time change. I wonder why they did that? It makes me worried though because I don't think Los Mis is doing that good rating wise & especially after what they did to REINA.

General

I watched a portion of FELS, & at least going to watch the first episode.

jlk

Tierra de Reyes
I watched FELS to the (bitter) end.
I will give TdR a try, it has to be an improvement. FELS was worst novela until Corazon indomable came along.

Los mis
Tks again Agnes for recapping

Tierra de Reyes
Like NovelaMan, I haven't seen PdG or FELS. I will definitely give the first week a try.

Yay! I'm glad there will be some people on the TdR patio with me this week. FELS was a fun Mejía circo that was great fodder for snark. The music and the entrada were most enjoyable. ;-)

Thank you, NovelaMaven, for putting this page for us. And for so much you always give here.
Thank you, Agnes, for your very helpful recaps.

Los Mis

Agnes, jlk, about what you said, do you remember when Sor Milagros answered Sor Amparo, after Sor Amparo walked off in the chapel, "Te quiero mucho … " adding again, "MUCHO," in a strong voice, and sad face? I think it might be to say she was in love with Sor Amparo. Earlier she showed to be jealous of Lucha, when she called her Sor Amparo's favorite (I think it was the word she used), and was angry about it.

I think you are right Sor Milagro is becoming more and more Lucha's ally, jlk. And they share that deep grief.

I will miss Eusebia! She was like a conscience watching it all. Maybe she will be on more, maybe help to catch Lily? I want Lily to get justice she so badly deserves!

Tierra de Reyes

I will watch the start, to see if to keep watching. It is what will now show at midnight, when I was watching Los Mis. Thanks to recaps of Los Mis, I will be able to keep up, since I can not watch every night at that early time. Much grateful to you all for that!

I miss Eduardo Yanez. Does anyone know what he's
doing these days?

"I miss Eduardo Yanez. Does anyone know what he's
doing these days?"

He is attached to star in a new telenovela next year called "Amores con Trampa." His leading lady will be Itati Cantoral.

It is a comedy, a remake of a Chilean telenovela from last year called "Somos los Carmona" with a story that is basically the Beverly Hillbillies - a rural family gets rich and moves to posh neighborhood.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgU9Q23Lj_s

I watched the whole SOMOS LOS CARMONA on YouTube (and found it so good that I even bought the chromecast contraption to watch it on the big screen).

It was hilarious and I loved the way they talked (slang from Chile countryside).

I doubt Televisa, or Emilio Larrosa for that matter, will make a good job, so, to avoid headaches, I will skip it. Or maybe I can do more damage if I watch a few episodes and then rip it apart in my blog, LOL!!

RG, thank you for the info. I'll be sure to check it out.

Los Mis

Thanks to all the recappers and commenters for reviving this forum. I rushed home to see it at 8pm CT only to catch the tail end in the new time slot. I liked watching Los Mis and Sra Acero back to back but 3 hours per day will be too much with Tierra sandwiched between. May have to record the other 2 and watch them on the wknds. The plus side is that i can now watch my other 3 tv series that are also on at 8pm CT.

Did anyone notice that a nun and cardinal were killed on the same day in these novelas? I hope the female cop catches on to Genaro and lives to tell about. I find it odd that Daniel hasnt spent any time pondering the identity of the crooked cop.

I'm starting to feel sorry for Carlos. He's a nice guy but Daniel will certainly let him have it when he finds out that he knew about Lucha's secret yet denied it repeatedly.

LOS MIS parte uno
Lily shows up at the family home with a bruised face claiming she had been beaten up by el Diablo; she pleads her case with the family and has to work hard to gain any sympathy at all; even Fernanda in private conference is dubious and accuses her of being Olegarios’ mistress. She maintains, “Unh-uh, only an employee.” She ends up at Misericordia hospital under the direct care of Dr. Gonzalo, The Only Doctor in Mexico City (TODIMC) and Lucha who appears to be the TONIMC. (Why she would allow herself to be taken to such a pocilga is completely out of character, particularly since that is the very term she and Diablo used to describe Gastón’s perhaps unpretentious, but certainly clean & comfortable dwelling.)

Liliana again tries to convince Daniel and then Lucia of the authenticity of her (artificially acquired) injuries. No one is buying, but in the course of his interrogation, Daniel manages to “out” Pablo (now that he’s unemployed by the Diablo organization) as a police mole working inside that organization. Daniel extracts a promise that Lily will testify against el D. in court. She mulls this over a minute, weighing options in her crafty brain, no doubt trying to figure out how to make this work for her so she’ll end up with everything she wants. And now she knows about Pablo; I don’t think this was very smart of Daniel to leak confidential info like that.

Diablo, still kind of groaning and limping (has anyone tended to his wound yet?) demanding tequila and pain-killers which Nuria, waggling her cute bottom & batting her heavily laden lashes, brings to him along with tantalizing (she thinks) offers of other delights He gulps these down in great quantities, acting like a spoiled ninny (and quite comic, too—I didn’t realize Porras was such a natural clown) and then proceeds to abuse her, mostly verbally in the cruelest fashion, unequivocally putting her in her low-caste place. She gets kicked out of the room.

There is a scene where the two young couples “in love” go out to a restaurant. Octavio and Vicki are joyful & comfortable with each other. Adriana and Abel are like prickly pears. It’s not going well between them and it’s obvious to everybody. Adri’s cell phone rings and she fumblingly goes to the ladies to take the call. Of course, we know who it is and how she will react…NEXT!. Abel excuses himself to go off to the little boys’ room in a state of his own confusion; so confused, in fact that he actually dials up Dr. Gonzalo, but hangs up quickly—pobre de Abel.

LOS MIZ parte dos
Elena and Conseulo are chatting in the Duran kitchen when Pablo arrives to state his case & clear his name. Elena goes off with him to hear his story; this is really tipping her apple cart because she’s only just made up her mind to go back to Radames after he did the big switcheroo of setting her free and giving back her jewels.

So back at the pocilga (not the hospital, but Gastón’s house) Nuria is furious, humiliated and maybe even a bit hurt, Gastón finally begins to realize what kind of trouble he’s got himself into as he flashes back to happier times with Consuelo and galvanizes into action. (another comic actor) He calls Chelo for a date, she, reluctantly and very dubiously agrees. They meet at a restaurant, Gastón hands Chelo a bouquet of flowers; she frowns in puzzled disdain; he professes his undying love and apology. She asks “what do you want” He wants to get back together. So, how many couples do we have on the fence about their partners at this point? Seems the most stable relationship is Vicki and Octavio.

Sor Amparo is laid out in the hospital chapel. Lucia and Daniel hug a lot and the camera swivels around to show us remorse and a huge glycerin tear indicating her fear of the unspoken secret that seems to be getting locked in tighter and tighter as events conspire to prevent her spilling the beans. Carlos hints to D. that such a secret exists, but then he plays dumb. Liliana has wandered out of her hospital bed to catch a glimpse of Lucia and Daniel in a tight liplock. She is not a happy camper. Genaro lurks around looking suspicious and alarmed.

This is strictly from memory and I know I’ve missed stuff and probably got a lot mixed up, so please chime in all you Miserable fans!

LOS MIZ

jlk & AficionadaI think the relationship between Amparo and Milagros was nicely depicted. I doubt anybody was hinting that there was anything overtly sexual about it, but even if it were, history & literature are full of stories of the deep bonds of love between women in restricted societies. I've known a few nuns in my life and when I was little used to have an afternoon job doing small jobs at the convent attached to our school, where I saw nuns interacting casually inside their own community. Demonstrations of affection could run the full spectrum, but in general, they observed a decorum that fitted their special vocation in life.
—Agnes in NJ

LOS MIZ Oh, and Nuria, on seeing the putzy
Gaston go out after his ex, starts plotting to secure her safety. She knows the jig is up and she better start cashing in chips. I sort of forget what chips she's got to cash, but you can bet she'll come out bruised but OK.

Señora Acero-Monday
Well, now I am a little less confused about how the whole cardenal thing helped Sara. Since Cortez was the arresting officer and is now seen as a "dirty cop on the take" it made it easier to "prove" Sara was set up.

I am loving El Teca...but I hope this is not the end of Quintanilla.

Aracely's mother is an idiot.

Thank you for the two recaps. I was delighted to find the
detailed one this morning. How about the nerve of Gaston trying to get back with Celo after the despicable
way that he treated her? I sincerely hope she doesn't
fall for that. After being outed I'm hoping that Pablo
doesn't get killed. In the beginning I wasn't too crazy
about Vicky and Octavio, but they're really growing
on me.Thank you also for a new vocabulary word,
pocilga.

Tierra de Reyes

I would love to know what y'all thought of the first episode.

I watched it and was underwhelmed. I didn't even bother with the final five minutes. Sounds like Tijeramundo has used the same incidental music that I heard on my 6-hr DVD version of PdG.

Perhaps I've been spoiled by Reina.

All Tierra did was make me long for big Ed Y and the e.coli bakery again. (snort)

Tierra de Reyes
I've only seen about 10 minutes of it, but I kind of liked it. BUT I haven't seen any of the predecessors.

Tierra de Reyes

I watched the first episode and was also underwhelmed, Doris.

I did not see Pasión de Gavilanes, but did see Fuego en la Sangre.

The story appears to be exactly the same. They did have some attempts at modernization. For example, the sister who dies was a barrel racer instead of the meek, humble girl that was portrayed in FELS. I can't even remember if that girl worked or had hobbies.

A very disappointing thing for me is that I like Fabián Ríos. I especially liked him in Corazón Valiente. So, having him as the villain bothers me. And I doubt if he can equal the evilness of Guillermo Garcia Cantú in FELS.

So, knowing exactly what is going to happen just doesn't do much for me. En Otra Piel was VERY different from El Cuerpo del Deseo, so the concept of a soul appearing in a new, younger body didn't seem so stale to me.

Such a pain when they change the times. I can't watch Mi corazon es tuyo & Los miserables.
Why didn't they just replace Reina with Tierra??

No one could be as bad as Fernando in FELS. As bad as FELS was, Diana Bracho, Guillermo Garcia Cantu & Capricho (the horse) were wonderful.

"And I doubt if he can equal the evilness of Guillermo Garcia Cantú in FELS."
So very true!!!

It seems like everyone and his brother is in Tierra, MANY
familiar faces. I must say that so far I like it.
Anon Gringa

I really like Tierra de Reyes but I have to watch it on Telemundo's website. Do any of you know how to enable the english closed captioning? Their website has changed and they have a new video player and I can't figure it out.

Los Mis

Thank you, Agnes, for more excellent recaps!
"He gulps these down in great quantities, acting like a spoiled ninny (and quite comic, too—I didn’t realize Porras was such a natural clown)" yes yes yes! LOL
And, "pobre de Abel." So true.
"back at the pocilga (not the hospital, but Gastón’s house)" LOL

As a "Miserable fan" I agree, "I don’t think this was very smart of Daniel to leak confidential info like that." Daniel, what are you thinking?! I am frustrated how Lucha continuing to lie. How many more will die because of her not saying? Now Pablo? I hope not. I do not believe someone as truly good as Lucha would continue that way, knowing others would die, maybe even Daniel (even if she is doing it to protect Roxanita). Even give an anonymous tip to the police, Lucha! It does not make sense writing it that way.

Thank you for your reply, Agnes. I agree that "the relationship between Amparo and Milagros was nicely" - beautifully - "depicted."
Please remember I said "in love with," not lovers. And not mutual feelings. I believe they had Sor Milagro add the strong "mucho," with her very pained look, for a reason. And when she was so angry in jealousy of Lucha. Just speculation, of course!

I am an old convent school survivor, and know many nuns. And some do fall in love, and it is painful for them. But I agree they rarely act on those feelings as couple relationships or sexual love. I am certain our Sors were chaste.

I know that it is more about the deep grief Milagro would feel, either way.
But it might also be about how alone she would be if she was also in love with Sor Amparo.

I missed this night's episode, sigh. Tomorrow, on the official site, i hope.

Tierra De Reyes

Doris, I was "underwhelmed" by it too, but I am trying again tonight, hopeful. I love the cast and wish it could be great!
I did not see Pasión de Gavilanes or Fuego en la Sangre, so at least I will not be disappointed comparing! It helps, ah?

Novelera: "A very disappointing thing for me is that I like Fabián Ríos." Yes, me too. I was sad he played so evil so well.

Sorry folks, I'll be away for the next week. Something's come up. If there's any time today, I'll try to squeeze in a quick summary of last night's show.

Thanks Aficionado for your great comments, especially about the nuns' relationships. Last night we saw a little more of how deeply Milagros is hurt by the loss of her friend. She resents Lucia as an interloper and will probably blame her in some way. But she's a-hurtin' big time.
Later 'gators!

I had my recording of capítulo #2 on in the background this morning, while sewing. This might be the best way for me to watch, since I know the story. LOL ("Reina" required me to sit and do absolutely nothing else, because it was so entertaining.)

Tierra

So for people who've seen FELS, do the characters get at least a little more likable? I'm watching just because it's there, but the only people I really liked died in the first episode. And I want to beat the good guy brothers with a feminist stick.

Brother to Sister: I must meet and approve all boyfriends. I order you to break up with this one.

Sister (who's NOT in an old-fashioned telenovela): I'm a grown up, so piss off you jerk.

I so badly wanted Alma to tell Aaron Diaz (can't remember the names yet) this, and now it's too late. Just not sure I can watch AD scowl his way through another show.

Kelly

Tierra
I've still only watched the first episode so I should probably hush, but...

"beat...the brothers...with a feminist stick.!

HAHAHAHAHA! Love it!

I enjoyed the first episode (having nothing to compare it to), but it seemed a little choppy/poorly edited. I'll probably stick around.

I've only seen Fabian Rios in Dama y Obrero. He was a bad guy there so I really can't picture him as anything but a bad guy. He is very pretty though and I wouldn't mind seeing him in a nice guy role.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I would have Fabian as one of the brothers. One of them looks pretty evil to me. Wish I knew the character name or the actor name. Not Aaron and not the dopey looking one that went to talk to the club dancer/singer.

Agnes, thanks for the heads up & of course any recap or comment is always appreciated! Plus, all that from memory? Awesome!

Aficionada: Agree, didn't think they're were lovers but Milagros grief did seem very deep.

Just a quick remark about Tue.'s episode; I couldn't help but cheer when Lily messed up and called out Pablo as a gang member when Daniel knew that wasn't the case. & I agree that it sure looks like Carlos is sinking in deeper with Lucha. I wonder what kind of fallout he'll get.

Right now I'm about half way through Wed.'s episode. So a hit on the face allows Lily to have her own hospital room where she can plot El diablo's demise?? & nobody is walking in and wondering why Elena's ex & a DEA police officer are doing there??

& I hope Vicky's does something smart about the info that her dad gave her. fingers crossed!

jlk

LOS MIS

So it seems that el diablo is going to have to die or go on the run. If they catch him, I would assume he would turn on Lily & the rest of his accomplices & that doesn't seem likely yet. I'm kind of hoping he goes on the run and finds out that Lily betrayed him. Then hopefully she gets the double whammy of karma, TN justice & El diablo justice.

I hope that Abel finds out about Adriana/Rodriguez soon. It kind of feels like they're playing a big game of chicken until their wedding & one of them needs to blink real soon.

Sara- Gonzalo Garcia Vivanco is the evil-looking brother that isn't Aaron Diaz. (This hasn't played in Mexico so no spoilers on Wikipedia!) But if any of the brothers will turn out to be evil, I'd pick Dopey. It's always the ones you don't suspect, and he was a drug dealer in Santa Diablo, so he has experience in badguyness.

Really all of them, the brothers and sisters, all look like bad guys. Even the horse was kind of a jerk.

I don't know if anyone is still watching, but there's a new entrada and I don't like what I understand of the song. I'd comment on it, but I think it would be like mentioning an avance. Telemundo could be messing with our heads...

...And I think Don Teca is messing with Sara's head. Is he telling the truth about Indio? I don't think so. I think it's just part of his master plan.

Dear Ara-aim for his huevos.

I am heartsick about Elio, but I was kind of glad to see Empanada go.

I loved Crucecita's last words: "Lo que más le duele al árbol es que el hacha tenga mango de palo" (which I have paraphrased.)

Will someone PLEASE tell me the relationship between

Señora Acero

Sara- I'm watching!

that looked like Martin's 'huevos' that Ara flung behind that tree as she was leaving.

and thanks for the quote from Cruz, she was kind of neat in her own way, probably haunts the place now.

so I guess Indio just borrowed Empanada from prison for this job and they were planning on taking him back, worrying that other guy, I think Indio said he could fix things with some money.

I can see the cops listening in on all of Sara's conversations, bringing them all to tears.

I was wondering if Sara was going to drag Elio home from the morgue.

the poor maid at Felipe's, and could someone please close that bathroom door.

so I guess el Teca and Indio's plan is for Sara to be alone, accused of killing Elio, begging for their help, hmm, and I too wonder if he would have brought Sara Indio's head if she agreed to work for him, he does have this thing for her picture.

Tierra de reyes

ah Gringa-

from wiki,
"Fabián Ríos as Leonardo Montalvo, He is the husband of Sofía. A Playboy who cares only money and who ordered the assassin of Ignacio del Junco"

we saw them sleeping together last night, but earlier there were flashbacks of Sofia being raped by someone, so there is no sex, but interesting how Leonardo warms up Cayetana, Sofia's mother.

other than Arturo's (Aarón Díaz) permanent hat and scowl, I'm loving Joaquín Garrido (Arnulfo the bad guy in "Camelia la Texana") as the general, Don Felipe Belmonte, Cayetana's father, rolling around in his wheel chair looking up at all of these beautiful young ladies.

ya know, wiki has a pretty good cast list and character description, you might want to check it out,

maybe this should be called the Wafflers,

since almost everyone is sitting on a fence wondering which way to jump,

I love Gabriel Porras (don Diablo) sneer,
where he flashes his gold tooth.

Thanks to all the folks on this fabulous board, especially Agnes for the catch-up on Los Mis! Sorry I’ve been MIA, but I’m usually too far behind to comment before the next batch =( Luckily, I’m only about an epi behind right now, so here’s the 411 on Qs and comments that I think I might know.
LM
There was a Q about the flash drive – Last I remember, it fell out of the toy at the hospital and under a desk, but Lil didn’t see it. It’s possible Roxy picked it up at some point and put it back in the toy (she probably thinks it’s a battery just like Memín). Otherwise, it’s probably a) still under that desk, b) got picked up and put with other hospital office supplies, or c) got swept off and thrown in the trash.
SA
Sara - I also loved the Crucecita line “What hurts the tree most is that the ax handle is made of wood”. Great saying!
Empanada reiterated something I’ve wanted to mention and forget all the time – They call him “empanada” (turnover, pocket pie) because they never know what he has inside. Depending on the region/family tradition/personal taste, etc., the filling could be sweet, savory, meat, fruit, veggies, etc, so the name was fitting. Off course, none of the girls (except Cornelia) knew that was the reason for the name. However, I suspect they did know that Juan Parra’s nickname was Juan “Alimañas” (vermin). Not much confusion on that name!
I sure hope Sara doesn’t buy the bull Don Teca (DT) is selling. We know she’s not leaving the business from the first epi, but I hope she goes off on her own or gets back with Quintanilla and doesn’t end up in bed (literally or figuratively) with the enemy.

TdR
Anon Gringa – Deb just answered before I posted this one: Leonardo is Sofia’s husband. She chose to marry him when he saved her from getting raped (at least I think that’s what I heard about the rape part, but I could be wrong). This is a change from previous versions where she was raped and her mom rushed to marry her off to a guy she (mom) hand-picked for fear nobody would marry Sofia (Norma in PdG) after what happened. Given the sleaziness of Leo, I wonder if he staged the whole thing to get her to marry him. Kind of a waste if all he wanted was the money since the other sister seems to think he’s the bee’s knees, but I guess he liked this one best. Another change in this relationship is that I could have sworn I heard Sofia say she had already fulfilled her wifely obligations. Maybe she meant something different, but I take that to mean they had sex at least once. In previous versions the marriage was never consummated.

Kelly – “Even the horse was kind of a jerk” - That was awesome! I also liked the dead characters the best! Much like Novelera mentioned, we got to know more about Alma than we ever did about Livia, and I love the fact that she was not a shrinking violet like her predecessor. Ricardo Chavez as the cradle-robbing patriarch was also a great improvement. He’s far younger and better looking than the previous Bernardos who looked like they could have been the girl’s grandfather. This pairing was far more believable than the ones in PdG or FelS. As for the likeability of the characters, there was more of that in the previous versions as well, but it looks like the too eldest sisters (the youngest is kinda slutty but otherwise likeable) are simply guarded rather than mean. With the exception of Flavio, who has a lot of charm to go with the sleaze, the brothers will definitely need to loosen up on the brooding or they will become irritating very soon.

At first I thought Smith and Rios (Cayetana and Leo) were too young for their roles, but now I’m ok with it. There is a tendency to cast mother roles with younger actresses (in comparison to their alleged children) and since this is supposedly just outside a large city (in this case Houston) instead of in the middle of nowhere (I seem to recall Cd. Serdan was not exactly next door to Puebla, Puebla, but I could be wrong), so we can tell ourselves she’s been getting a monthly chemical peel with biannual botox chasers =)

I never saw “Las Aguas Mansas” (“the still waters” – first version of this, a Colombian TN I believe) I saw all of PdG and a few months of FelS before dropping out. I was mostly underwhelmed by the writing in this one, which seems to be taking some of the road of FELS: Leonardo (Fernando in the previous versions) being evil from the get go and killing his FIL, the early information about Soledad’s (Eva in previous versions) baby and the possibility of foul play in the death of the brothers’ parents and their sister). In PDG they were an accident and a suicide respectively, and in FELS they were murders for sure. This ambiguity is what I’m finding interesting, and keeps me from dropping out altogether (the acting is good, but not enough when the writing is not great and you know most of the story – not to mention I’m already watching waaaaay too much TV). The brothers say their parents were killed, but there is no proof. The sister could have been murdered, driven to suicide, fallen by accident while chased, etc. We’ll have to see what happens next and what sort of twists they come up with to see what happens.

Deb, thank you. I didn't mean to be a bother with too
many questions. I've checked out wiki many times but
evidently missed the info on the Ramos character.
Definitely won't be asking again. ah-AnonGringa

Margarita, thank you for SO MUCH helpful information.

"So for people who've seen FELS, do the characters get at least a little more likable?
Even the horse was kind of a jerk”

Kelly - LOL over your comment about the horse. FELS had the. best. horse. ever. named Capricio. We all loved that horse, and at times he was the best character and actor. ;-)
In FELS, all the "good" characters were likeable from the start. That's one thing that is bothering me with TdR.

The other thing to which I am trying to adjust is all with these heavy bad-ass characters in TdR, the incidental music is often playful, as if it's trying to be a comedy. And it's not coming off that way.
I"m trying to give TdR a good week before I decide.

Snarking about a telenovela is one thing, but if I don't like it, I just stop watching.

Senora Acero
I do tape it and watch it Friday evenings. But I can't understand one of the actresses (the hairdresser who went searching for her son). So I got turned off. All the clues about Elio's pending future, got to me, so got out of it. I love your recaps and look forward to watching tonight. Except for the brother-in-law, Junior? he had so much chemistry, has there been any charm or humor. I think they made a mistake in not keeping him around.

I will continue to watch this, but if like in FELS the three brothers keep showing up in their drawers, I will turn off. When watching FELs, my nephews thought it was the first gay TN. I watched the first episode but could not find any kind of bond with the sisters.

Senora Acero
Anon12:03- I don't understand Miriam very well, either!! She has a Colombian accent and uses Colombian phrases a lot. Other characters have even commented on her vocabulary lol!

I miss Junio, too!!! I'm glad we saw him (briefly) in a flashback.

Is anyone else getting the impression that Don Teca has been obsessed with Sara for a long time? Like, since before Vicente died? He says they didn't meet and Sara can't remember it...but I think they did!

Tierra de reyes

Gringa- no, no ask away, it helps everyone when someone asks a question, and I was wondering about that myself.

I'm just kind of watching this one and when I was double checking with wiki was pleasantly surprised to find such a nice character description list.

Thanks to everyone so many great and helpful comments!

Los Mis

Thank you, Agnes, and for the word on your being away. Have a good week.
Thank you, too, jlk.
I did get to see the next episode on TN site, and I saw how bitterly poor, grieving Milagro lashed out at Lucha. Last night, she seemed to be seeing herself and Lucha as allies, again, though. Thank goodness! Lucha needs all the allies she can get, at this point.

Margarita, thank you about the flash drive.
Does anyone know what happened to the flash drive after Roxanita hid the toy at the hospital? - and to Gastón's copy on his computer? I did not see what happened to his computer.

Tierra

LOL Kelly: "And I want to beat the good guy brothers with a feminist stick." ditto here!
Also, one thought I had about Aarón Díaz' scowl, that at least in this one it felt satisfying to see him wear it looking at Cayetana.

deb: "I'm loving Joaquín Garrido (Arnulfo the bad guy in 'Camelia la Texana') as the general ... "
Me too. And thank you for the link to the cast list, much help.

Have a good weekend, everyone.

Aficionada

Señora Acero...

went to Últimas Semanas tonight.

Señora Acero
Thanks for the info, deb! I haven't watched the latest episode yet. I assume Dueños del Paraíso is the next one? I kind of want to see that one. I never saw Reina del Sur and I'm still kicking myself over it. I hope Dueños is good.

Tierra de Reyes

Hola, everybody!

I checked out the first 30 minutes of the first episode and I have to say I see no distinction between this remake and the other two tns.
Passion de Gavilanes was a favorite of mine (Mario Cimarro and Danna Garcia were smokin' together), but I didn't care much about FELS (mainly because of the protas which I found too old for their parts).

From the little that I have watched, I can only say that Sofia looks different; in the other tns she had been rapped, in this one I think someone only tried to rape her (correct me if I'm wrong). She wears the same type of skympy clothes as her crazy sister, which was not the case in the other stories.
The guy playing the father will forver be Gabriel (from Marido en Alquiler) for me - I did no find him believable as the father of 3 grown women. Sonya Smith has already played the part of a mother with big kids, but she looks rather young for the part, too.
Aside from that, I really didn't watch enough to have a real opinion. I will try to stick with it every now and then because I really love the story. They could have made the effort to change some things here and there, but apparently this is an exact copy of the last two tns, so why did they even bother?

Oh, and Aaron Diaz looks handsome enough, but he wasn't great in Santa Diabla, so I don't know...
I almost didn't recognize the actress who plays the singer (don't know the names, yet), but I would recognize Barbara's voice from Marido anywhere.

Tierra de Reyes
I still have to watch Friday's episode, but the end of episode three hooked me. An animal got saved and Aaron Diaz smiled.

I really hope they give Aaron more opportunities to smile. He does happy and serious pretty well. I never buy him as mean or angry (it's the reason I stopped watching El Talisman...well, one of MANY reasons.)

I like the potential chemistry between Arturo and Sofia.

The Arturo/Sofia theme song (is it also the theme for the TN?) is nice.

I'll watch at least until it starts to go to hell (which it might.)

Tierra
so far, too much like FELS to get me really interested.

Sra. Acero
I am so upset about Elio. No one is supposed to be happy in this.
Lorena Bobbitt got her revenge, he deserved it, no más raping again.
I think that it was his salchicha, not his huevos, that Aracely pitched, like Lorena.

Los mis
Haven't watched since it conflicts with Mi corazon es tuyo, I'll try & catch up online, or not. Hate it when they do this to us.

Reyes
Sara, I just watched episode 4, I think I 'M mostly caught up with the show. I agree, Arturo and Sofia are not bad together. I see some parts of the story are moving along quite well (Patricia and Brother 3,what's his name? ) Sister 3 really likes to touch him while telling him what a waste of air he truly is. Nice chemistry there, too - and I really need to start to pay attention to names.
I had to laugh when Sofia cured Arturo's scratch by:
1. undressing him (nailed it! )
2. gazing at his pecks (who wouldn't ?)
3. wipping off the blood in slow motion (tn rule)
4. sticking a band-aid on his still infected cut (she's just a vet after all )

I think I'm going to enjoy making fun of this story along with you, guys, all the ingredients are there for this to become a big mess.

Tierra de Reyes
The brothers:
Arturo(Aaron)

Flavio(Actor whose name I don't know...I'll call him Curls)

Samuel (another actor whose name I don't know....to me he's Dopey.)

The Sisters (And I don't know any of the actors names.)
Sofia (The animal doctor)
Andrea (The Serious one)
Irina (The flirty one)

I find the casting of the brothers and sisters so much better than in FELS. Everyone felt to old in that one (I've watched the DVD, but while watching Tierra I realized I must not remember a flipping thing about the DVD because I have no idea where things are headed in Tierra.)

I think my only disappointment is that it looks like they are adding a narco element. Don't get me wrong, I am loving Senora Acero and I will be the first person in line to see Duenos, but methinks Telemundo is starting to overdo the narco.

Tierra

oy vey.

"actors' names"
"too old"

Tierra

Sara, thank you for the names! We have to know the leads, at least.
The casting for FELS was all wrong, I agree. Everyone was much too old for the parts they were trying to play. Elizabeth Alvarez and Pablo Montero were kind of OK, I guess, but they weren't paired in the tn, so that is a moot point. Thank God that Eduardo Yanez started playing older men recently, he's been playing the 30 year old for two decades now.

FELS
In addition to too old, EY was a 50 year old virgin, that's Mejia for you.

Tierra cast

FELS

God, I had forgotten about the 50 year old virgin. That was so ridiculous!
Televisa seems to be preparing a new batch of young actors. In the last few years they have given the chance to play lead roles to the younger generation. That's the only way that the young actors can truly have the chance to learn the craft, by allowing them to play more than supporting roles.

I kind of think that is why we haven't seen Colunga, he is 48 & doesn't want to appear ridiculous playing a 30 year old.

Los Mis
I haven't been able to watch 'cause of Mi corazon es tuyo, ¡madilta telemundo! but they do have sth cool, Resúmen semanales, the highlights of the week, so you don't have to watch everything.
Still no captions however.
