Que Te Perdone Dios #23: Death and Doubts
Amidst the chaos caused by Fausto, who’d figured he’d go for broke and throw his mother-in-law over the balcony stairs to her death as well, Abigail arrives.
Mateo offers to take Dr. Patricio back to the hacienda for another visit, but he refuses the offer, telling himself that it’s for that best that he never returns to see Renata again.
Abigail demands an explanation as to why Crazy Constanza was frightened and screaming at the top of the stairs when she arrived. Macaria and Feisty make excuses that it was just Connie being her dotty old self, thinking she’d seen her husband and this time nearly tripping over the railing. Luckily, says Feisty with Mac backing him up, he was there just in time to stop a tragedy. Mac, however, refuses to let Abi go upstairs to talk to her. Just then, Ren arrives on the arms of Amanda and Diego’s abuela, Vee. Ren wants to know what all the confusion was about. Feisty says it’s the usual—servants sticking their noses in where they aren’t supposed to. All of them leave, except for Abi, who Ren wants to stick around.
Feisty demands to know where Ren was all this time. She informs him that she went to hear what Simona had to say and has decided to help her campaign. He storms out. Outside, Mac gives him grief for botching their bedroom bounce-fest. "--Hey! Sometimes plans don't work out!" He tells her to make sure Ren gets the results of her preggers test immediately and heads to the bar.
Lucio is at the bar and reports in. The cockroach of a priest is done for and nobody saw a thing. “—Well done.” They begin to slug down a self-congratulatory tequila when Feisty notes Lucio wearing his wedding band. Guiltily, Lucio lies and says he saw him throw it and picked it up for safe-keeping. He hands it back and Feisty pays him for killing Padre Francisco, but it’s with the warning to keep his choppers shut or he’ll end up the same way.
A few miles outside of town, the cops have put up a roadblock due to the accident. Who should drive up and stop on his way back to visit Ren at the rancho but El Médico de Mateo!! He offers to help the cops since the ambulance hasn’t yet arrived. Walking over to assist the accident victim, Mat realizes who it is. Padre tries to speak to Mat but he cannot understand what the Padre’s mumbling to him.
Hours pass and Feisty and Lucio are still sucking up suds and spirits at the local cantina. Feisty buys drinks for all the drunks of voting age and reminds them that he’s running for mayor and expects them to all vote for him. Lucio seconds that and everyone whets their whistle in insalubrious support. Just then the church bells begin to toll and the bar empties out.
News travels fast and the whole town, minus Lucio who’s still slugging down trago’s of tequila in the bar, files into the church to pray for Padre and pay their respects. Among the mourners is Helene. Behind her is the little cop who used to be married (we believe he mentioned it an episodio or two ago) to Pablo’s mama. He promises he’ll do whatever it takes to find out what really caused the good padre’s untimely passing.
Crazy Connie is literally going around in circles crying to herself that Feisty wants to do her in. Abi walks in to visit and doesn’t take her seriously when CC tells her what happened. “—The two of them were in cahoots together and were about to when you got here!”
Rafa, the barkeep, tells Lucio to get out of his place cuz he’s got to go to the church to pay his respects to the padre. “—Even your boss has gone to the church to pay his respects.” Lucio gets a belly laugh and a half at that and staggers out onto the street.
Feisty has made a detour to the morgue to pay the priest his respects there rather than at the church. “—Give my regards to my brother Gerry and ol’ Pablo” he tells the old guy with a malicious snicker. Mateo walks into the room then. Mat lets it slip that the padre’s last words had something to do with Feisty and Diana. Fausto prods him for more, but Mat says it was too garbled for him to understand a word and they leave it at that. When Mat begins to shed a tear or two over the padre, Feisty stops him with a growl that real men don’t shed tears. (Viewerville does a double-take. My gawd, did we actually hear that in a telenovela?)
Across town, Diana refuses to attend church with her Aunty Mia and says she suspects his death wasn’t an accident. Mia is catch-her-breath impactada and wants to know what Diana suspects and why. Their maid, Teadora, is listening behind the door and getting an earful.
Back at Ren’s rancho, she and Mac are waiting on the results of the at-home pregnancy test. Ren nearly retches at the thought of carrying Fausto’s demon seed. Mac promises her that she’d help her if she wanted to “lose the baby.” She, however, plays a cruel trick on Ren, making her believe that the test was positive, only backing down at the last instant. Oh, it was just for grins, to lighten the mood, says Mac. Even so, replies Ren, that was too tacky for words! (Get a clue Ren that there is a reason your mama doesn’t like or trust the b!tch all these years!) Ren frets over her husband raping her again when he finds out she isn’t preggers yet. Mac turns serious and tells her that she should trust in her that Feisty will never touch her again. (Short of castration or otherwise being struck impotent, that’s hard to believe! Viewerville anxiously awaits to see what Mac’s “plan B” will be.)
The terrified Tía Mia wants the truth from DeeDee about what she suspects and “who dunnit.” It had to be “him” cuz they both know how powerful he is. “--Don’t forget what he nearly did to you in the river. That man is a killer!” “--Don’t get so melodramatic! After all it isn’t one of your movies!” “—Exactly! And I’d love to see my name in the papers again, but not in the obituaries!
Meanwhile, Diego informs Meliton about the padre dying in a car accident. (What a jarring sight—seeing all those brown drug flasks in this poor Indio’s shack. Ya gotta wonder if ol’ Mel dropped out of pharmacy school somewhere along the line while his best bud, Frankie, made it all the way through seminary.) Mel blames himself for “not seeing the signs.” If he had he would have been able to prevent his death. His best friend!
Back at the hacienda, Abi asks why she’d suspect Feisty of wanting to kill her. “—Because I saw him and Macaria kissing!!” Abi is drop-jaw and up-chuck impactada. Mac listens in on the half-delusional conversation as Connie returns to her ‘discussion’ with hubby, Bruno. She makes an obnoxious aside to Connie’s crazy, wild ideas [chifladura]. Abi makes an aside that maybe not all are so crazy and then leaves. Once the coast is clear, Mac threatens Connie with saying anything about what she saw between her and Fausto, she herself would kill her. To make her point she grabs Connie’s head as if she’s about to break her neck.
Downstairs, Diego arrives just as Di calls the rancho and tries disguising her voice asking for Feisty. Ren tells her not to bother with silly voice cuz she knows exactly who it is. Di tries to sound respectable and puts down the town gossip, but Ren doesn’t go for it. Di asks if it’s possible she hasn’t heard that Padre Fransisco died in a car accident this afternoon? Diego confirms it for them.
Back in town, Meliton enters the church with his bottle of mescal and a couple of shot glasses. He says good-bye to his old friend and drinks a toast to him.
Outside, on the main street in town, Lucio has a drunken encounter with Feisty who tries to get him to obey and head home instead of to the church. The mayor arrives and shoos his wife off to the church without him. Don Marcelino agrees with Feisty that Lucio is being disrespectful to the padre’s memory. Simona walks up to them, having to pass them in order to get to the church and says, “well look who!” Don Marc tells her to mind her manners and she tells him pretty much to mind his own! Just because Fausto’s there, he has the nerve to open his mouth to her! Well, thanks to Don F., she doesn’t have a job (working for him) anymore! So, can it! The whole town knows that you’re nothing but this guy’s puppet! Lucio gets aggressive. “—Have some respect for my boss!” Sim’s son goes after Lucio, but Feisty blocks him.
Mat and Abigail exchange meaningful glances in the morgue’s vestibule (?) as Diego comforts Abi and Mat comforts his aunt.
Lucio tells Feisty that the kid has some balls and should work for him. “Hey kid, it would suit you to! I was about your age when this great man changed my life!” Sim’s kid heads for the church. Sim stays back and witnesses Feisty telling Lucio to go home and to sleep it off. “—Sleep? And if I don’t sleep, Boss??” Feisty turns to Sim and tells her that her problem is she needs a good time in the sack with some man and to stop with the gossip from the market. She laughs in his face and says if the shoe fits, wear it [Si les quedó el saco]. Lucio jumps in again and runs off at the mouth—“hey Boss, just say the word and I’ll fire, just like whenever there’s someone that gets in your way.” Fausto knocks him down and calls him a fool. He then drags Lucio over to Simona and orders him to apologize to the lady. Sim says no need and anyway, it’s like they say, “Kids and drunks always tell the truth.” She stumbles off, sickened by the whole scene. Feisty pulls a gun on Lucio and tells him to scram, cuz all he’s doing there is digging his own grave. Finally Lucio gets it through his drunken haze he’s no longer welcome there and skitters away to find some rock to crawl under.
Don Marc warns Feisty that one of these days Lucio’s big mouth [hócico=lit. his pig snout] is going to get him into trouble. He leaves when DeeDee walks up.
Di and he exchange cryptic remarks regarding the unfortunate and accidental death of the padre this afternoon which prevents him for repeating to people what he saw. She manages to turn the subject then to her cousin who is in jail and who her aunt is desperate to have released. “-- ‘Course that takes money and somebody with juice, like his, to get done.” He knows what she’s up to and cool as a cuke, tells her to tell Auntie Mia that he hasn’t got those kinds of connections. Neither is he some charitable organization that dishes out money in order to get worthless good-for-nothings out of jail. He then gives her a skin-crawly kiss ala The Godfather goodnight on the forehead.
At the same time, Meliton gives grief to the old comandante for not doing a thing yet to find Pablo Ramos’ killer. Mel accuses him of having been bought off like all the others. “—How much did they pay you to shelve the case [dar carpetazo]? And now another one of my friends dies and I know it wasn’t any accident!” The old cop denies being bought off and asks what makes him think the padre’s death wasn’t an accident. Mel tells him he just knows, period! (Note to Mel: This comandante doesn’t believe in soothsayers.and shamanism.) He tells the comandante that he’s going to do his own investigating.
A few minutes later, Mel has entered Lucio’s place and sees the bottle with the potion he’d given the padre for him. Mel gives Lucio a surprise as he comes out of the bath. “—I see the padre gave you the potion I prepared for you. Can you explain how and exactly when you were with Padre Fransisco? “
At the morgue, Ren is now alone with the padre’s body and gives him her final goodbye. “—I may be selfish, but I want you here with me. Who will advise me? Who will console me when I suffer so? You’ve left me all alone, Father.” In limps Dr. Pats on his crutches. He grabs her shoulder and assures her that she is not alone, that she has him now. She grabs and hugs him desperately.

Lucio was certainly a loose cannon last night. Obviously murder isn't good for his mental health. He seems to get a bit more unhinged after every one.
I got a kick out of Simona standing up to Fausto, Lucio, AND the mayor, all at the same time, even when Lucio pulled a gun on her. She has ovaries big enough to match Fausto's huevos. Unfortunately, she doesn't have the muscle to back her up like he does. She is definitely going to be on his hit list soon.
Thank you also Count for yours yesterday.
So much backstabbing and cover up
going on. I'm glad that at least there are a few good guys, however at this point it seems like very few good people and the few that there are, don't have much if any power.
Vivi---I agree with you about Simona. She is one that is not afraid to stand up for "good" but I'm afraid for her, she may not be around for long if she doesn't cool it down a little and it looks like she has no intention of doing that.
It's dangerous being a padre, two dead in two shows. I guess that evil has no respect for men of God
I held my breath for Connie when evil dog tried to kill her last night. Of course no one would believe her, she's just crazy old Connie after all.
Lately there has been discussion about devil dogs appeal to women.
He isn't handsome although he looks better with his hat on (the Marlboro man?) than with it off. Diana pointed out that only Diana is after money and power even though that she too finds him to be attractive. Maybe the women are enamored with him because that's the way the show's script is written.
Did the advances show Macaria giving evil dog Fausto Abi's money? Macaria seems to be the female version of dog Fausto. She makes it very easy to dislike her.

After Alejandro Avila annoyed us as nebbish sidekick Victor in LQLVMR, it's interesting to see him as tormented evil sidekick Lucio here. The scarred eyelid is a nice touch.
Still pondering devil dog (thanks, Gringo) Fausto's appeal. Have about decided it's not that he's truly appealing, although he does have some nice leather jackets and fine hats. It's more about the power he forces upon others, both personal and political. Also how others want to hook into his power (Hi, Diana) and use it for their own goals. He has these mannerisms of shrugging off opposition and urging others to just get with the program and all will be fine.
I shared the belly laugh Luc had,it was just too funny when the bartender said " Even the Devil himself went to pay respects!" I could see why Luc laughed like a maniac,i would too ,Holy Loser!
Fuasto is like the Nephilim itself but i am sure we have seen not the last of the Devil"s creations ( He never seems to run out of ideas, does he? ) since Sergio Sendel is also getting ready to take the Mantle again in his new telenovela ! Even Alexis Ayala is sharing Hell itself in La Sombra :)
And i too love Avila in this role ,he is just flawless at potraying this completely lunatistic ,evil sidekick .
And i got a kick out of Mel bringing a few drinks to the Church ,did he learn that trick from Lucio? It was so funny to watch him and i love his performance as well but i did not enjoy his snobinesh towards Efrain ,i thought only the Ripoll girls could do that!
So sad about the padre, I hoped he might make it so that Lucio wouldn't be so assured an anvil at the end. With the priest's death on his head, Lucio might do some acts of redemption at the end (or not), before he meets some terrible end. I agree bout A. Avila doing the tormented soul role so well. He's bad ou tof habit and because he believes there is no hope for him due to the things he's done, but it troubles him, torments him.
I also agree about the nice hats and jackets of Fausto's and that he looks better with his hat (and shirt!) on.
I chuckled when Simona's son threw himself at the three grown men, two of whom are known to us to be killers. The sentiment the kid was showing is nice; I'm just glad none of the men were in a killing mood right then.
I cringe when Mac reveals her neediness and begs Fausto for attention. I agree that she might as well be nice to Ren and make life more pleasant for herself and others, since they are all trapped together in Faustoville. She takes out her anger at Fausto on Abi, Ren and everybody else.
Mat continued to be a doorMat at the morgue. "Padre mentioned your and Diana's names in his dying breath, but I'm sure it's nothing." Yeah, that makes sense. Unless Padre said more that we don't know, and Mat isn't letting on. But based on past behavior, I'd say he's just being his usual 'perceptive' self.
I can't believe it hasn't occurred to Fausto to take a look in Mac's room for the gun. I mean, it's right there. I'm surprised multiple people haven't come across it over the years. In the mean time, Mac is getting a lot of mileage out of the threat of it.
Part of me was sorry that Crazy Constanza didn't go over the balcony! I know that sounds bad. That's how annoying her raving is. We get it, already. Just do some crazy eye rolls and we'll infer the rest.
I really dislike when TNs kill off the priests. I just do.
I almost felt sorry for Lucio last night. Almost. I think his loyalty to Fausto is ruining his life. He is going down a path he may not be able to turn back.
I was surprised Mateo wasn't more suspicious about Padre's last words. I thought he was smarter.
I am disappointed Abi didnt suspect her mom of taking money, nothing else been said about large sum of stolen money. Mac might be richer than Ren by now, with her never-ending payments for life, compliments of Bruno. Then she added Abi's money to her pile of money. Wow,
"Finally Lucio gets it through his drunken haze he’s no longer welcome there and skitters away to find some rock to crawl under" and " (Note to Mel: This comandante doesn’t believe in soothsayers.and shamanism) were among my many favorites.
Lucio is like a pitiful dog that is constantly abused but yet still continues to seek his "owner's" affection.
Vivi, I am worried for Simona too. To say the odds are stacked in Fausto's favor is an understatement.
I am also very curious to see what Macaria has up her sleeve to keep Renata "safe" from any further Fausto attacks.
Mat was truly crushed by the Padre's passing. I am glad the good doctor has decided to stay with Renata although I think it may be dangerous to his health.
Diana
I wonder how the elections will get screwed up,Sim is obviously going to lose in some way, will she get covered in some dramatic scandal that is not even hers? I think that its going to have to do with the secret lovemaking of her son that is going to cost her the elections.
If she actually wins and gets it out without ending up 7 feet underground , I will be very shocked!
Did Univision televised QTPD last night (02/19/2015)? I'm not seeing it anywhere on the sites I usually visit. I'm anxious to see what happened last night.
Thank you for response.
Thanks for the recap, I really enjoyed reading it.
I just knew the Padre was going to die. Fausto told him too much for him to survive. And since it was not under the rules of confession, then the Padre could have accused Fausto had he survived.
I was happy to see Dr Pat. I just fear that Fausto will want to get rid of him. I think Ren likes the doc, she just doesn't realize it yet. Is it too early to wish for a happy ending between the doc and Ren?
I've been looking since last night and was not finding anything. Then I'll be ready tonight.....Thanks again!
