TELEMUNDO Y MÁS: Dueños del Paraíso, Tierra de Reyes, etc - Week of March 9, 2015

Listen up guys — this page is only for Dueños and Tierra.  Los Miserables is getting close to the end and, as we often do in últimas semanas, we have given it a separate page this week.

Here’s a link to Los Mis.

Muchas gracias, NovelaMaven, for giving Los Mis its own page. I've been wishing it had one for weeks, not because I'm watching it but because I'm not, and at times it got a bit tedious working through all the Los Mis comments to find those for Dueños. However, I didn't want to make extra work for you and Jean. You two do so much already, and I'm most grateful.

What Juanita said. I'm quite happy for the viewers of Los Miserables in that they have so many kindred spirits. But I think I was also developing repetitive strain forefinger (Think I could get time off from work and disability payments for that?) from scrolling through Los Mis to get to the Dueños recaps and comments.

DUEÑOS DEL PARAÍSO – LUNES – Parte 1 de 3

Wow, another super episode!

CASA QUEZADA

Leandro thanks Gina for the information about the premiere. She tells him she’s no longer at the hotel because “they” were following her. He invites her to stay in the Guest Room at his house. He then asks Iggy to get some of his best guys together.

CASA ÉRICA

Carmen is helping Érica get ready for the premiere. [I can’t tell if Carmen really cares anything about Érica or if she’s just playing her to get what Sergio wants.] Carmen tells her that after the premiere Conrado will be at her feet. Érica says she never wanted revenge against Conrado. She tells Carmen she will NOT permit any photos with Sergio.

CASA ROMERO

[OK, Conrado demonstrates an astounding degree of whatanassitude in this entire episode. Let me count the ways!] He starts off yelling to Adán about Sergio. He tells him that Érica didn’t resist doing three more pornos for even two seconds. Adán: Tú no eres un blanco palomito que digamos, eh? Adán asks him what’s going on with Anastasia. Exasperated Conrado says he just went to the beach with her a couple of days. What’s the big deal? Adán: “And you live with her. You think that’s nothing?”. Conrado: “For a little while. I’m trying to move up in the world, is all. Anyway, I’m not discussing Anastasia. I’m discussing Érica. I’m never going to forgive her ever!” Adán: “You’re still in love with her, right?”

Vero comes in saying that Érica invited them to the premiere. Conrado says he’s not going. Adán tells Vero she should stay home. These things are not for her. Vero: “And what type of movies are for me, according to you? I might like it.” She goes on to ask Conrado to pick up his corcholatas (bottle caps). [Vero is pretty great this whole episode. I think finding out what a mistake she made with “David Costa” may have mellowed her.] The phone rings. Vero answers and says to Conrado: “Tú jefa, tú amante. Vero says the message was that they should not miss the premiere.

CASA CARDONA

Irene tells Anas that they’ll never let her adopt Rodrigo because she’s a narco. Anas tells Irene that she only lives to mess up her daughter’s life. She accuses her of putting Gina’s suitcase in the bedroom to stir up Elias. Anas tells her the only reason she’s still living there is that she, Anas, has a big heart. She gives her a very menacing look and tells her not to mess with her. She also says the only thing left is paying Elias (for the adoption, I assume).

PORNO PRMIERE THEATER

Sergio is a nervous wreck in black tie, constantly looking at his watch. The idiot tells Carmen that Érica not being at his crap movie is like Ingrid Bergman missing “Casablanca” or Vivien Leigh missing “Gone with the Wind”. We see some suspicious looking guys that the camera lingers on. There’s a flashback to LQ telling these guys not to raise any suspicions when they first get there. But when all is said and done he wants people to be completely hysterical.

After she and Alejo arrive, Analía hopes no one takes her picture here! Sergio sucks up to Anas. Anas has a little hissy fit because Érica hasn’t shown up yet. [Why does she care? Has she forgotten this is supposed to be to launder money?]

DUEÑOS DEL PARAÍSO – LUNES – Parte 2 de 3

CASA DE DEFUNTA GLORIA

We get another funny scene of the whistling, cheerful cleanup crew. Renato gives them a bunch more money. As the van pulls off, we see Gina arrive. She goes inside, calling out for her sister. Renato grabs her. He calls her perra traicionera. She asks what he did with the baby and her sister. Renato: “The baby is fine; your sister, well (shrugs).” He reminds her he told her she’d die if she came back and points his gun at her. Just then Iggy comes by in the back of a truck shooting a machine gun and puts about 50 rounds into Gloria’s house. He doesn’t seem to be worried about hitting Gina! But Gina Nine-Lives gets away. The cops somehow noticed the zillion rounds Iggy shot and he doesn’t get to go inside after Renato. [Now I know why Renato always wears that black Western shirt. He blends into the dark in the back yard and the cops don’t grab him up.]

MIAMI POLICE STATION

Ferrara looks like he needs a bucket full of antacids. Riquelme tells him they couldn’t capture anyone, and there was no sign of Gloria or the baby. After Ferrara leaves the room, Saúl, taking out his toothpick for more effective sarcasm, says: Le está resultanto difícil mantener su reputación de agente perfecto.. Saúl goes on to tell Riquelme he’s wasting his time sucking up to the guy because pretty soon they’re going to replace him.

PORNO PREMIERE

Vero, Adán and Érica arrive. When Adán is seated next to Anas, she asks him where Conrado is. Érica looks fabulous in a red evening gown.

STRIP CLUB AND COCAINE SELLING SPOT

WAA has arrived and drunkenly paws the strippers and blubbers that they are his family. When the owner/madam asks what’s up with him, he replies that it’s not a woman bothering him, but a human beast.

PORNO PREMIERE

We see some of the first scenes of “Sugar Lips”. Vero can’t really take it, and gets up to go to the Ladies. LQ’s thugs leave their seats. We see Renato arrive. As she starts to leave the restroom Vero sees these guys. They get machine guns out of trash cans that were apparently planted earlier. They don clown masks.

CASA ESPARZA

The two boys are home with a babysitter. We hear a doorbell ring, but don’t see what this is about.

PORNO PREMIERE

The thugs start shooting up the theater. Anas shoots back, as does Renato. As usual, mostly innocent women get mown down. The three thugs are killed, one by Anas, one by Alejo and one by Renato.

STRIP CLUB

Conrado WAA gets a lap dance from a pretty girl with a weird cotton candy wig on. Looks like it’s a lot more than a lap dance. [He’d be really in the soup if he gave a dose of the clap to Anastasia.]

PORNO PREMIERE

One good thing comes out of this. Adán and Vero embrace and even kiss in their relief at being alive.

Ferrara is there screaming orders. [Why is he even there? A shooting in a theater should not be a case for the DEA.] He gets in Anas’ face, saying the whole thing is her fault. He says there are always dead bodies in her wake. Anastasia isn’t taking any crap from him, and turns the tables on him. “Have you realized what this city has turned into? Gunshots in a movie theater, dead bodies in middle of the day, explosions.” Ferrara: “Your days are numbered, Anastasia Cardona!”

Anastasia, screaming at him: “My name is Muriel Cabrera. And the one whose days are numbered is you for being incompetent..” [Inepto is what she said; but it doesn’t have the same bite in English as a direct translation.] She goes on to wonder what the mayor will say about this. Rather hysterically Ferrara yells back that this all began when she arrived. Anas: “Prove it! Convince a prosecutor! To do that you’d have to move your ass instead of playing cops and robbers with your incompetent batch of cops. Do your job, cabrón."

DUEÑOS DEL PARAÍSO – LUNES – Parte 3 de 3

CASA ESPARZA

Alejo and Analía come home snarling at each other. They call out for Tomás. And Alejo finds him unconscious. He pushes what looks like an empty bag with residues of cocaine under the bed. [I don’t know if the doorbell was someone bringing the coke or if the child found Alejo’s stash. And they don’t tell us, at least not in this episode.]

CASA ROMERO

Conrado shows up very concerned about Érica. He says he doesn’t care for di Franco, but a massacre at his premiere is just too much. Vero asks to speak to him in the kitchen. She asks him if he’s living with Anas. Conrado: “Yes, I’m living with her, but only for a while.”

In the other room Érica thanks Adán for saving her. And she tells him that Vero doesn’t know the man she has in her bed. Adán tells her that they don’t sleep together any more. Érica says she’s sorry.

Vero tells Conrado he ought to tell Érica the truth. He tells her he thinks she’s great, but she doesn’t have the right to tell him what to do. Vero: "Érica is suffering, and it’s your fault." WAA: “Why do you care if I’m in bed with Anastasia? Are you jealous?” Do you want me in bed with you?” Vero slaps him. He walks out with the brilliant parting shot that she’s a hysterical woman and he doesn’t know how his buddy puts up with her.

PORNO THEATER

Looks like Anas’ remarks made an impression on Ferrara. He snarls at some underling to cover up the bodies so the press can’t photograph them. Later he tells Riquelme that it appears that LQ doesn’t like his #1 enemy’s new business. Saúl is there and tells Ferrara that there are 9 dead inside and two outside. Ferrara: “Eleven dead! My God! And no one seems surprised.”

HOSPITAL

Tomás had a heart attack and the doctor doesn’t know if they can save him. Alejo lies and says he’s sure the child didn’t ingest any medicines.

MINI RECAP of the great reveal

The brothers and the sisters arrive at the ranch and are greeted outside by gunmen and Cayetana. Soon after Andrea, Abuelo and Leo show up, too.
Cayetana greets her daughters with warmth, but won't allow them entrance to the house until she doesn't explain why she called everyone. Then she starts to tell them how the so called Rey brothers se burlaron of everybody.
The boys want to tell the truth, (too little too late, Cayetana says and I agree with her) and they do manage to tell their real names before Cayetana blurts it all out:
Arturo "Different day, same hat" Gallardo
Flavio "Curly and Rugged" Gallardo
Samuel "I wouldn't want Andrea even if she was offered to me" Gallardo

The girls are shocked beyond belief.
The brothers try to explain that they came to find out what happened with their sister, Alma, who was betrayed by the late Del Junco. The scene is dramatic, but Leo's reaction to Alma's name is hilarious: he makes the sign of the cross in his own mocking way, but it really works for the character and it made me giggle.
Sofia yells at Arturo that he can forget about his son, he's not worthy of him. Then she faints and Irina and Soledad take her inside the house.
Before leaving Irina tells Flavio to stay away from her, too.

The confrontation between Cayetana and Arturo continues outside. We're not sure who hates who more, but there is plenty of hate to go around, so that won't be a problem. Arturo no lo va a permitir to be separated from his son, but Cayetana will see to it. After she leaves, carrying a victorious smirk on her face, Leo blurts out that he won and Arturo lost. Arturo thinks that the battle between them has just begun, but Leo is too full of himself.

When they finally want to go, the abuelo stops the brothers to express his disappointment in them. They apologize to him and say that they did fall for the girls, but to no avail.

In the house Sofia comes to her senses and shouts at Soledad for having sided with the brothers over them. Cayetana wants to fire her, but Andrea thinks she should stick around to pay for what she's done (as in jail time).
Sofia is heart-broken and feeling very bad, because the baby is fussy. Irina tries her best to comfort her, but they both feel betrayed and are out for blood.
That's why, when Cayetana tells them that she's going to the police to press charges against the brothers, Sofia says that she wants to be the one to accuse them.

The brother's arrive at Juana's place to lick their wounds. Juana asks them to stay away from the girls from now on, but neither Arturo nor Flavio are willing to do so.
Cayetana and the girls arrive at the police station and talk to Fernandez about what happened. At the end of the episode several police cars and the del Junco arrive at the boy's place and Fernandez says that he has an order for their arrest.

Other things that happened: Veronica's novio showed up. Vero's not too happy about it.
Nena asked Fernandez to help the brothers, since she knew that they were going to confess, but he said that there is nothing that he can do.
Valdez has a plan against Bridgitte.
Patricia slept with Ulyses.

Adriana N

Thank you for the recap. I enjoyed it .

It's so difficult to see Leo winning for now even though I'm sure he'll get his in the end. What an insufferable
jerk, although "pretty". I also kind of laughed when he
made the sign of the cross.

I don't see that the brothers have committed a crime.

Tierra

what a pleasant surprise,
thanks so much Adriana Noel for the wonderful recap!

I suppose with the boys in jail the bad guys will be running amok.

and of course Veronica is unhappy being deceived as well, wait till she gets the whole story, and does Pablo know about the fiancé, it looks like Vero is going to try to juggle them both.

Tierra

Adriana Noel- Thanks for the mini cap, your memory is amazing.

Anon- I agree with you, its painful to watch Leo win.

The only crime the Brothers committed was to illegally replace the contracted house builder. I am glad that I was right in hoping that "Reyes" was their other surname.

I can't believe the girls really went to Fernandez! Imagine if every time our pride was hurt we denounced someone, half the population would be in jail. I am glad Nena/Beatrice is alive.

Sophia didn't do anything when Leo drugged and raped her but she wants Arturo arrested because his sister was her father's girlfriend? The whole family knew about trouble in Cayetana's marriage, so why do they hate Alma? They were daddy's girls, I would think they would like someone he loved.

DUENOS:

Excellent job, Novelera, wonderful recap of an action packed episode.

I think I also heard Saul wonder if Ferrera is hiding something. Maybe he does have some secret axe to grind, that we haven't heard about yet.

Remind me again not to volunteer to be a henchman-for-a-day, no matter what the pay.

That was frightening that Tomas got into his Dad's coke. It's similar to when kids find their parent's guns, and start playing around with them. Bad things can happen.

I'm liking Vero more and more, and she's also dressing better and better. But she may want to reconsider splitting from Adan, since Adan and Erica seem to be getting closer and closer.

Love your new word, Conrado's whatanassitude! He sure showed that in the episode, he's living with Anas (but just for awhile), and has sex with the stripper. But still calls Erica a human beast, when she hasn't even been unfaithful! (Yet)

I do see this show on a bit of a downward spiral for Anas and crew. And she really hasn't had too much to be happy about from the start. She DID get to kill Nat, she's got that baby, and they outfoxed Leandro with Victor Manuel. And she sort of has Conrado. But druglords on other shows seem to live it up way more (before their downfalls).

And the whole idea of her main partners having normal families (except Renato) really increases the drama on this show. Most other druglord shows have the family of the main character with lots of interpersonal relationships, but usually the socios or henchmen don't have any families. Here they do, and the clash between normality and druglord life can be shocking!

Dueños
Terrific recap, novelera! I loved "whatanassitude" and "Gina Nine-Lives".

I too continue to be unsure about Carmen's motives. If I had to guess one way or the other, I'd say her loyalties were more toward Sergio than toward Erica. But given my track record, that almost surely means she's really acting on Erica's behalf.

What was the point of spraying Gloria's house with bullets? There was no way to see who was there, where they were, etc. For that matter, the bullet-fest at the cine didn't make all that much sense, either. Did the thugs really think that the folks in the audience were peace lovers who wouldn't be armed and couldn't shoot back at someone totally exposed on the stage? And why didn't LQ plan something that would kill Anas?

BTW, I loved your musings about the possibility of disability payments for missing work due to repetitive strain forefinger (in your earlier posting).

Duenos

Tks Novelera, fantastico!

Why was Iggy shooting up Glorias place?

Dueños

Thanks, guys. Hombre, I was thinking that what Saúl meant about Ferrara hiding something was his clandestine meetings with Elias. Actually Ferrara is trying to do his job, but he hasn't told anyone about Elias working with him. Saúl may think he's on the take.

Yep, I have no idea why Iggy shot up Gloria's house. The only thing I can think of is that LQ told Gina he was going to provide a guard for her. And that they followed her to her sister's house. But I don't see how they'd have known she was in danger inside.

LQ's motive for having the thugs shoot up the theater as expressed by the guy himself was to create hysteria. I guess he thinks no one would come to any future Sergio productions. But, in my mind, Anas wouldn't care if no one ever came. The porno business is a way to launder the drug profits, not to be a profit center in and of itself. At least this is what I think. But I'm expecting logic in a telenovela. What was I thinking?

Duenas
I had the same question about WHY Gloria's home was being attacked.Thought I'd missed something.
Star
I was hoping that Soledad would quit and go to work for
Beatriz, but staying at the Del Junco's probably moves
the plot along better. Besides, she loves the girls so
much. I wouldn't be able to take all the mean treatment. Also, I wanted her to tell Cayetana to get her
----- hands off her, but that's not Soledad's style.

Dueños

Thanks, Novelera. A thoroughly riveting recap. “Porno Premiere Theater” – lol!

Glad I’m not the only one confused about why LQ’s thugs attacked Gina’s sister’s house. Does Gina not care that all those wild shots could’ve killed the occupants if there had been any?

I’m going with Elias’ review of Érica’s star turn. That stuff on screen was not even a movie. Sergio needs to get with Russ Meyer and learn a few things.

Loved Vero slapping Conrado and telling him he will treat her with respect, even though I do agree with him that she should butt out. Érica needs to stand up for her ownself with Conrado, rather than getting all kittenish with Adán.

I vote Carmen is playing Érica and not sincere at all. Like Sergio, she sees her as a moneymaker, that's all.

Can Conrado get any more WAA? I think not. In addition to boinking the lapdancer, he even kissed her. Run Érica Run.

Duenos

How great did Vero look last night? She didn't hold back on the cleavage, even knowing the kind of movie she was going to. She's getting tougher, without losing her morals (so far). Conrado so deserved that slap, and good for her standing up for her friend.

Tierra

yay Adriana Noel thanks so much for the recap. It looks like it got everything important and its still short - How do you do that?

I can never stand the inexorable doom stuff so I skipped this one. Somehow reading about it isn't as bad as watching, so I'm extra happy to have a recap so I know what happened.

probably count me out for Tuesday too but I'll see what I can cook up later in the wk.

All - you're welcome of course for the recaps, I'm having fun doing them, though the appreciation is lovely. Really, any time anyone wants to compliment me feel free;)

Seriously though I really count on the comments and recaps from everyone else to help me fill in the gaps when I missed part, or zoned out during Valverde's scenes (happens more than 1/2 the time for some reason) , or just didn't understand what was happening. So thanks all you guys
Lets keep it going!

Dueños del paraiso... epi 41, Thursday,

(whew, lots of chit chat in this one if someone wants to elaborate).

Leandro seems to follow Iggy around,
to keep him pointed in the right direction,
with his off beat lingo,
about sucking Gladiolas and wearing wooden pajamas,
(which reminds me we haven't heard of any coffin sightings from the glades),
anyway he asks about 'that' cop,
Iggy says he's waiting for orders,
ok, kill him.

things are hot at police headquarters after the porno premiere rave reviews,
11 dead,
Rita Corona seems to freely comment on everything with her facial expressions,

(did they mention that the Allende overthrow in Chile (1973) was what brought Alejo to Miami,
where he sells drugs because that's all he knows what to do)

Renato gets a call from his hitman that followed Conrado and Anas around,
wants his money,
(was he disappointed he didn't get to kill anyone?)
Irene picks up a phone extension and listens in.

Gina gets a rise-and-shine wake up by Leandro and maid at his place.

Chad stops by to see Lu, nope, wants to talk to her dad,
(does he have a sport scholarship but needs more money),
he wants a job, I can be your right arm he says,
Adan taps his arm and says I already have one.

Conrado is worried about Erika,
(did he spend the night with her),
but is living with Anas, who is antsy about the whole thing.

Paola is drinking tequila for lunch, Iggy works in a kiss,
but in walk Leandro and Gina,
I don't think Leandro can handle any thoughts about them being together
(me neither),
but tries to stay focused on them getting married.

somewhere he asks Iggy about that other thing they talked about,
Iggy says it's being taken care of,

then we see Saul and that other guy Gonzalvez on a stake out,
and along come two sacarios on a moto,
Gonzo excuses himself to make a call and leaves the car, what a set up,
nope, they gun down Gonzo,
Saul lives but looks like he took one on the ear,
Salvador and gang swarm the crime scene,
but later he gets a call about the hospital and Alejo's son, bingo.

Alejo and Analia are at the hospital, still in there black tie porno duds,
Tomasito is still alive after his heart attack, the doctor spills,
it was caused by very pure cocaine,
Alejo gets offensive with the doc but if looks could kill Analia is having a melt down burning holes in Alejo,
the doc says he has to report it to the police, ut oh,
Adan and Conrado show up and Alejo fills them in,
I'm thinking they will kill everyone in the hospital narco fashion, but I guess these guys aren't there yet,
In walks Salvador and gang, question Alejo and Analia, and haul them away
(isn't Alejo out on bail for cocaine possession),
and still they don't search his house.

Lu swings by Erika's, wants to chat, chat about Erika staying away from her dad,
we're just amigo's Erika says, and walks away.

Vero ends up watching over Tomas after Analia is carted off,
but asks Adan if he knew about the cocaine,
Adan doesn't answer but she reads his silence as Conrado says no,
we just found out.

Anas and Conrado practice being parents picking up Alejo's other son at school,
I guess what we have here is an 'extended' (crime) family.

and as Salvador blames Anas for everything, the Miami mayor blames Salvador.

Salvador gets a call, it's Elias,
I'll be defending Alejo/Analia...

DUENOS:

Great recap, Deb! Thanks for pointing out the Allende reference, I missed that.

The mayor's name is Milligan. I can't remember if we've ever seen him. Police chief Montalban has to remind Sal that it's better to be on the Mayor's side than against him.

Vero's face when she realized that Tomas had gotten into the cocaine was very telling, thinking this could happen to her family, too. But in truth, it's not Alejo's druglord business that caused this, it's his personal use of the drug, which Adan doesn't do.

I liked when Paola said to Iggy, my Dad just wants us to get married so I'll get pregnant. Fine, replies Iggy, let's get started with that.

At one point, Conrado said to Anas, maybe she should just get out of the business, for her own safety, and peace of mind. She replied, are you telling me to give up? NO WAY! She told him they have lots of security now.

I wonder what Irene will do after hearing Renato talk to his assassin on the phone.

Leandro also said the way we're gonna bring down Anas is by using the cops to get her.

I think Chad said he lost his scholarship after he and Lu ditched school (either one day, or for good). So he needs money, but so far, Adan won't even consider it. I'm betting, though, that some situation will come up in the future where they WILL need Chad. He's probably unknown to the Quezadas, and could sneak in to their meetings, or something like that.

DUEÑOS

Thanks so much, Deb. Loved your recap and all the clever additions and questions as well.

Regarding when Conrado left Chile, my ears perked right up. In my forever Spanish class we are currently reading La Sombra de lo que Fuimos by Luis Sepúlveda, a wonderful Chilean writer. He had to escape Chile and was given asylum by Germany during the Pinochet dictatorship. This excellent book takes place more or less in the present and deals with a group of old men who were exiles as well. Anyway, last night in our telenovela they said that Conrado left Chile in 1970 when Allende assumed the presidency. This says to me that he was not in favor of a Socialist government and was not an exile because of Pinochet. The Allende government, with the help of the CIA, was overthrown in 1973. Allende apparently committed suicide, but lots of people think he was killed by Pinochet’s people.

Renato’s hitman told him that following Anas and WAA around would cost him the same as a hit. And that he was not a good guy to owe money to. I don't know what Irene will do with this information, but she has a thing for Renato and won't like the fact that he had someone follow Anas.

Deb, I’m with you. Every time Iggy tries to kiss anyone, I cringe. He’s a sociopath with absolutely no redeeming qualities.

One of my very favorite characters is Érika. [Just realized I’ve been misspelling it all along. It’s with a “k” per the cast list on IMBD. I have liked Ximena Duque in everything I’ve seen her in. And her portrayal of this character is terrific. Some of you have called her stupid. To me she seems innocent. Her desire to be an actress has definitely led her astray. I felt like slapping Lu when she got snippy with her about her relationship with Adán. Very early on Érika gave a very suggestive look when she saw Adán without his shirt on. But since then she seems to be fond of Vero and respecting their marriage. She and Adán have done nothing wrong. It has been Delia’s suspicious mind starting the rumors.

I’m pretty sure we saw Milligan, the mayor, when they made the announcement about seizing all of Anas’ cocaine. He congratulated Salvador.

I wasn’t expecting them to arrest Analía as well. Ferrara reminds me of certain priests in the Inquisition. He’s judgmental to the max and, if a woman is living with a narco, then he’d yank her away from her seriously ill child without any qualms.

Dueños

Thanks, Deb. Fab recap.

Cruel of Ferrara to arrest Analia when he knows full well she's not in the business. Her comatose young son being left alone in the hospital means nothing to him. But then he left his wife in the hospital just after she gave birth, to battle Miami's drug war and doesn't seem to have looked back.

DUEÑOS, Miércoles

Things continue to go wrong for almost all our cast members. Somehow, I enjoy it when that happens to Iggy and Leandro more than with Anas’s crew.

One happy thing - Rodrigo’s new babysitter is going to be Daisy! Modesta interviews her, assures Irene that Anas trusts Modesta’s choice. Daisy takes the baby, holds him lovingly, as Anas enters. Daisy asks, so you’re the Mamá? Uhhhh, yeah, sure am! Anas also has charge of Augustin, Alejo and Analía’s younger son, for now. Conrado bonds with the boy a bit, asks him about sports.

Leandro is really happy that Iggy was successful in killing that cop, Saúl (he thinks). He tells Iggy he should get married this Friday! And don’t call me boss, I’m your suegro now! Give me a hug. Iggy hesitates, hugs him. Awwwww.

Iggy’s next job, Verónica. It’s late afternoon, Lu and Delia go shopping, leaving Vero alone. She takes a luxurious bubble bath, tries to free her mind from the problems, such as Analía’s kid. Meanwhile, Iggy has snuck into the house! As the creep creeps forward, some of the floorboards creak. Vero thinks she hears something, but....nah! She wraps a pink towel around her, as Iggy gets closer and closer. She slips into a pink satin nightgown, pours herself a glass of milk, decides to take an afternoon nap. But while she was changing, Iggy crept into the room and poured powder in her milk! Vero returns, drinks the milk. Uh oh. The next thing we see, she’s completely asleep, drugged out, as Iggy is lying next to her! He smells her, touches her a bit, aaayyy! At this point, Delia and Lu return, they didn’t buy anything, Lu goes to find her Mom, knocks on the bedroom door several times, Ma? Iggy is trying to think fast. Lu finally just goes in, sees Vero, tries to wake her, she’s not waking, when BOOM, Iggy karate chops Lu, and she’s out, too! As Iggy leaves, Delia gets tired of cooking, goes into the bedroom, and sees Vero and Lu, both out cold! She calls Adán, who rushes over. Lu is awakened, doesn’t remember much, but thinks she might have been hit.

Guess who saw Iggy outside, making his getaway? Chad! He sees the car, he heard the commotion inside, he gets a bit of a look at Iggy, but nothing direct.

Paola is meeting Jose Carlos at the restaurant, c’mon brother, give Dad a chance. No way, I hate him. It comes out that Paola is going to marry Iggy. WHAT? Jose tells her she’s an idiot, not only is she not marrying for love, but really, Paola, what are you thinking? You shouldn’t do this just to please Leandro, don’t let him manipulate you.

DUEÑOS, Part 2

So back goes Paola to the mansion. She smells perfume on Iggy (from Vero), and tells him he’s a lowly womanizer, and she’s changed her mind, she’ll NEVER marry him! When she hears the wedding was going to be Friday, she tells Leandro FORGET it! I’ve changed my mind. Besides, Jose Carlos said I shouldn’t let you manipulate me. This does not make Leandro happy. Iggy then gets a call, urgent news. Paola is sent off to her room. Gina comes in, tries to bond, Paola doesn’t want to bond, Gina’s nothing to her. Gina persists, what’s this about you not marrying Iggy? Well, says Paola, he’s a liar, a murderer, he’s stupid, and he’s a rapist! Now do you get it? But......sometimes, he sort of turns me on (!)

Iggy’s bad news is that they killed the wrong cop! Leandro takes it well, says he a man of peace, tells Iggy to come close, then PUNCHES him! You incompetent loser! How many times are you gonna screw up? He hits him a few more times (not sure how this is gonna affect the wedding).

We see the somber police funeral service for Gonzalves, in a church, only attendees are about 15 cops, but you know they are mad as hell. And this has other effects, too, as Anas tells the guys. The cops in Mexico are not as corrupt as before, we have no way to get our supply of coke. These killings have focused police everywhere on us. Conrado again suggests just hanging it up. Forget THAT, says Anas. This is our business. The only way we can find new ways to get the coke here, is to go to Colombia. So I’m going, and so are Conrado and Adán. Renato, you stay here (we earlier saw him counting money he’s going to give to his assassin/snoop). Adán says I’m not going! I’m all for the business, but no way will I allow my family to get killed! He walks out, Conrado’s going to try to talk him into it (again).

Elias meets with Ferrara, what should I do about Esparza in jail, I’m supposed to defend him? Ferrara says, we’ll just let him stew for a while, but I have another idea. We’re going to give the factory back to Anas and crew, their warehouse, and let them start processing the coke there again. What? Elias replies, don’t you think they’ll be suspicious? Oh, just snow them with some legalese, you fought for them, got their warehouse back, etc. Elias isn’t so sure.

In the jail, Alejo is pleading with Analía, we need to be united! This hurts me just as much as you. Don’t you think I’m suffering, I love our sons! Analía doesn’t want him to touch her, it’s all your fault! She begs a guard to get her out, she needs to be with her sick son. Ferrara arrives, I’ll question you separately, and everything will be fine, you can be with your son, trust me. As Alejo sputters, implores her not to talk, Analía is taken to an interrogation room, made to sit for hours, then Ferrara comes in. She’s desperate, saying I’ll tell you everything, just let me see my son! Ferrara smiles. Yes. Tell me EVERYTHING.

Hombre, thanks. My recorder failed me last night, but your recap is so vivid I feel like it saw it. My fave line: He hits him a few more times (not sure how this is gonna affect the wedding).

The last time my recorder failed me, it cut off just as Iggy was menacing Vero in his apartment and I didn’t know if she’d been attacked. This time it cut on right after Iggy was standing over Lu. So glad to hear Lu wasn’t raped.

But Lu throwing up isn’t good. Hope she isn’t pregnant but that's what it usually means on TNs.

I want to see Iggy destroyed by a woman’s hand, whether it’s Anas, Vero, or Paola.

Gracias Hombre

I'm getting the feeling that Anas is becoming suspicious of Elias, what took so long?

Duenos: I noticed Leandro wrote August 8, 1977 but a few episodes back Lu said Elvis died and that was August 16, 1977 as if I could ever forget it. I was 14 and watching TV when that came one. Anyhoo, Anas is on her way down in a few episodes cause the noose is being tighten. Daisy is a threat too cause of Ferrara and Iggy.
Tierra:
The sisters didn't no time hating on the bros. Wow, so much for love. At least, listen first. How Sophia can live in the same house as Leo I don't know. Thank you recappers.

Loved your recap, Hombre. You describe the action so well!

I would add that when Ferrara told Elias to talk Anas into moving her operations back into the warehouse that was raided he said they were going to put in cables and stuff in the walls. So the place is going to be bugged so he can get evidence against them. But we've seen Anas having a suspicious look on her face about Elias, so maybe if he pushes for them to go back to the same processing place she might catch on it's a trap. Besides, it's way too early in the novela for Ferrara to succeed.

Ye Gods, my skin was crawling when Iggy was touching Vero and then Lu. It was kind of weird what he said on his way out. He said to the unconscious Vero: "This is what you get for refusing to something-something." [Either be mine or let me have sex with you; forget the exact wording.] So it seemed like her "punishment" was whatever happened to Lu. I was wondering if he'd somehow killed her. But they didn't even show a bump on her head or bleeding. So how is this punishing Vero?

I hope Lu is not pregnant. I hate these plot developments of very young girls getting pregnant. And I wouldn't put Chad up as Father of the Year material! Maybe she threw up because she has a concussion.

It seems likely something will prevent Analía from spilling the beans. It's too soon for our Cardona Cartel to all be in jail.

So how much time has elapsed since Adán went to Renato asking for bodyguards for his family? Obviously that didn't happen. I don't know how many Iggy molestations I can endure!

I'm sure LQ's first punch directed at Iggy came from his rage at having his plans thwarted. But I was wondering last night if his ongoing brutality toward Iggy was a ploy to get Paola sympathetic toward him. It looked like it might have worked, if that was the plan.

Dueños

I'll put up a recap tonight. It probably will be on the short side.

Adan's house is grand central. Iggy is so often there he should a key by now. Where's the security Renato promised?

Dueños

Sue, I was thinking the exact same thing last night. Adán asked for protection for his family several episodes ago, and nothing has happened.

DUEÑOS DEL PARAÍSO – JUEVES – Parte 1 de 2

Ferrara works on Analía’s guilt as a mother. At first she’s strong, but when he says she’ll never see her children again without a guard present, she tells him everything. She says they came in 1970 because they were against communism (actually Allende was a Socialist). They did the usual menial immigrant jobs.

Renato goes to meet his hitman. [If I ever knew this guy’s name, I’ve forgotten it.] He gives him a wad of cash and says it’s for his past job watching “Red Beach” and for watching the police station. Irene saunters in and asks for a bottle of tequila. She comes on to the hitman, gets a bit drunk, and… I don’t believe it … suggests a three-way! Renato leaves in disgust.

Sergio and Carmen show up at Casa Érica to tell her “Sugar Lips” is a big success. They want her to come out with them and celebrate. At first she refuses to go, but then we see her dancing in a pair of skin-tight red pants and a black sequined blouse. [And the only person she dances with is Carmen? Looking like that? I don’t think so.] In the Ladies Carmen talks her into snorting some coke, something she’s never done.

At first Vero just says it’s suspicious she fell asleep like that. Then she’s sure that “Costa” was in the house. Adán has told her about going to Colombia, and she’s very angry. He says there will be guards and he’ll ask Chad to stay over as well. She tells him she’s going ahead with the divorce. When Adán walks Chad toward the door, Chad tells him about seeing a guy come out of their house when he was arriving. Chad gives him the license plate number.

Érica has fainted at the club from the combination of alcohol and cocaine. Sergio has called Conrado, who shows up very concerned for her. But she’s angry and doesn’t want to leave with him. Anas arrives as well in an interesting looking wig and with great makeup. Good for Érica! She goes right after Anas, who is definitely a dangerous woman. Érica: “How long have you been boinking my husband?” Anas lets her vent. Anas is on her way out, and Conrado tells her he thinks Sergio and Carmen gave her drugs. Anas doesn’t like that the protagonist of the movies is at risk and says she’ll “have a talk” with those two.

Adán finds Benavides in the phone book! [Maybe in the 70’s cops had listed phone numbers.] He wants to know who owns the vehicle that Chad copied the plate for.

Iggy is jogging on the beach and remembering touching Luciana. [Gah! Stop showing this scene!] Later, after an argument with Chad, Lu is taking a shower and they show a bruise on her leg. [What are we supposed to think? He raped her before Delia came knocking? She can’t tell she was raped? He’s awfully self-satisfied for only having knocked her out. And he told Vero this was to make HER sorry.]

Anas and the amigos are getting ready to go to Colombia. Adán tells them about asking Saúl for the info about the owner of the car. It seemed as if he got his answer because Anas says something about those hijos de perra. [But this scene is too vague for me. So do they even know Iggy’s name? Would Iggy actually have a car registered to him in Florida? And, if he did, would the Cardona crew recognize the name?] Anas goes on to assure Adán that Olmeda and his guys will be there 24 hours a day.

DUEÑOS DEL PARAÍSO – JUEVES – Parte 2 de 2

Delia is bustling around with a feather duster making snarky comments about Vero’s housekeeping. Vero looks fantastic in a blue sundress printed with red cherries. Delia doesn’t pay any attention to Vero’s asking her to stop. She marches into the closet and drags out the bag with all the drug money in it. Even though Vero pulls and pulls at it, Ms. Pushy insists on opening it. Delia is shocked to see the money and at first tries to blame it on Vero.

Vero says she’s fed up. She tells Delia she’s sick and tired of the criticisms. She tells her mother-in-law to her face that she can’t stand her. And she goes on to tell her that, yes, her perfect son is a narcotraficante.

On the patio Elias tells the others about the DEA having given them back the warehouse and that they can resume operations there. Adán is very suspicious of this and Anas looks at him with narrowed eyes as he goes on and on about how all is well. She asks who told him they’d returned the warehouse. He says it was one of Ferrara’s guys. After the meeting WAA tries to kiss Anas, but she pulls away. He thinks it’s because he spent the night with his wife and tries to assure her nothing happened. I think it might be that Érica made an impression on her.

Analía is exhausted. She’s told Ferrara everything, but he’s cold as ice. He tells her she knew about what was going on and benefited from it. She asks him what more he wants, and he tells her he wants to know where they keep the coke.

Silvana has come to see Riquelme again. At first he objects, saying the other cops might get the wrong idea. [I think he thinks that because he really is attracted to her.] She tells him what it was like being a child in the drug world. We see Modesta hiding Elias and her under the bed when some enemies come to the house. We see Silvana seeing someone shot in the driveway of her home. And later, when Elias and Silvana are older and when Nat was in Medellin, Leandro and some of his guys attacked the Cardona home. She was kidnapped and held chained in a stable for 6 months. Nicanor was in charge of watching her, and they fell in love.

Anas is packing and chatting with Daisy. Daisy will care for Rodrigo and also the younger Esparza boy. It seems Daisy IS a hooker with a heart of gold!

Earlier on they showed an envelope having arrived for Renato. He comes in and shows Anas three photos taken by his hitman of Elias and Ferrara. Anas: “It’s Elias who’s been selling us to the DEA!”

first off, thanks Hombre for Wednesdays recap,
I just love how you roll out this story, you've got the touch.

and novelera, wow, the way they cut these up I miss quite a bit, thanks so much.

I couldn't tell if Analia spilled all or not, and I'm still wondering if Iggy raped Lu.

I think the hitman, being hit on by Irene, is Bob.
(Bob Venegas in IMdB)
maybe we won't see Irene again.

and that future Sergio porn star, is that the girl Conrado was boinking, Luna (her night name)?

wasn't Vero referring to Adan as her ex-marido, in her chat with Delia,
and wasn't there drugs in that bag too.
(and I'm sure it will be all Vero's fault)

when Adan went to see Saul, wow,
for a little skinny guy he can sure be intense.

ah yes the Silvana story, as Mauricio pulls out her chair in the interrogation room, did she start things with why the cartels are at war, first he gave his version, then hers, was the guy she fell in love with Leandro's brother, (who was decapitated).

Tierra

can someone tell me what Isadora's plan with Arturo is?

Tierra

Deb- Isadora Valverde wants Arturo to convince Nena/Beatrice to sell her ranch (neighboring del junco's) to them. Valverde hopes to gift the ranch to Cayetana as a wedding gift. Isadora is also attracted to Arturo. I am glad he said no to her offer of representation. I hope the brothers tell Fernandez that Valverde now owns their ranch, the Valverde are going to use it as a front for their gun running business.

DUENOS:

Thanks for another wonderful recap, Novelera!

Could Iggy have injected something into Lu's leg, and that's why she's been in pain or getting sick?

When Anas said those hijos de perra, I think she just assumed it was the Quezadas. I don't think Saul has gotten back to Adan yet with the info.

Deb, I think it's more likely we won't see Bob again. Irene has a habit of accidentally killing people who bother her. And she's listed in the main credits :)

I think you're right that Luna, who wants to be in the next porn film, is also the one Conrado slept with at the strip club (but I'm not sure).

So if Silvana's father killed her lover, which side is on? Maybe neither. She is a strong character, and like Anas, could be the leader of a drug organization, if she wanted to.

I'm so glad Anas knows about Elias! Now they need to trap him.

Duenos

There was a scene with Lu sitting on the side of the bed, in pain like from cramps or something. But I like Hombre's thought of her being injected with something. That's better than the alternative.

Silvana is turning into a more interesting character. How can they give her grief about falling for Nicanor when she was kept in a stable for so long? Because they're all jerks, that's how. I want Anastasia taken down. I'm rooting for Elias to have a good excuse.

Kelly

Dueños

I'm with you, Hombre, in that I think Anas and Renato are going to set Elias up. He's going to think all is well until they get him and good. They may actually move into the warehouse and pretend to sell perfume just to drive Ferrara BSC. And they'd have the real warehouse elsewhere.

Maybe because I like Tony Dalton so much, I can't fathom the way Anas treats him. He's usually the smartest guy in the room (well, sometimes it's Adán) but she treats him like a lower-class employee while the amigos are socios. And is he going to Colombia? Why no. Last night she kind of dismissively asked him if he had his eye on Daisy. It was as if the hired muscle and the nanny would make a good pair.

I'm dumbfounded that any woman would prefer WAA to Tony Dalton!

Dueños

Ferrara must know that getting Elias to talk Anas into moving back to the same warehouse would make him look suspicious. Elias is not involved in that side of the business, so why would he suggest anything about the warehouse in the first place? I give Ferrara a “D” for looking out for the welfare of his snitch. One good thing about Saúl is he knows Ferrara’s weaknesses. If these two didn’t have ego problems, they could’ve made a good team. Oh well, it serves to make me root somewhat for Anas.

Ugh, I do believe Iggy raped Lu. My guess is that bruise came from the force of him holding her down while he violated her. I think Lu realizes she was raped but she is having trouble assimilating it. First, she’s 17 and may worry that telling her mom or dad will unsurface that she was not a virgin before the rape (though we know that this would be the least of her parents' worries). Second, she knows nothing about her family being stalked so has no frame of reference to process what happened.

Irene is something else! I guess she did enjoy being a prostitute, as Anas said. My theory was always that Irene had been abused herself as a young, impoverished girl and just fell into the life. But maybe both are true. She fell in it and she enjoyed it. Well, at least, Renato’s hit man didn’t rebuff her and she had a good time.

Hmmm, who sent the photos? Saúl, or Renato's hit man?

Earlier I thought Silvana was just using Riquelme, but I see chemistry now. I think she’s being straight with him while he’s totally gaga over her.

Dueños

Niecie, Renato's hitman was the one who sent the photos. He called Renato at Casa Cardona. Renato was not happy because he told the guy HE'D make contact and to not contact him. But the guy said Renato was going to owe him for what he'd sent to him: the incriminating pictures of Elias.

Tierra

thanks Star!

I guess Pablo knows all about Vero's fiancé, and without knowing that the Gallardo's are her brothers, that's a pretty strange relationship she has with 3 guys she hardly knows, and even stranger still that she is playing along with her fiancé, there must be something that is going to happen to stop her from going to London.

Dueños

I keep thinking of things that crossed my mind last night but, short on time, I didn't write.

When Érica did coke in the Ladies I sort of sunk down and said a soft "Oh, no!" I thought they were going with "porn star gets a drug habit" for someone I like very much in the cast. But as sick as she felt the next day, maybe that's not in her future. And Anas is going to rip into Sergio and Carmen for giving her the stuff at all. Actually I don't think Sergio knew about it. He looked quite honest (for him) when he told Conrado he had only given her vodka and champagne.

Dueños

Novelera, a pleasure reading your recap. Thanks for clearing up my fog on the photos. ITA that Anas is nuts to treat Renato like a lower-class employee. I think it’s a case of her having Renato around so long that she’s taking him for granted. If he were suddenly gone from her life, she would be devastated.

I’m also thinking that his not sharing his personal life with her (surely he’s got a chick on the side somewhere!) has also made her treat him more like an employee. Of course he keeps his personal life under wraps because he doesn’t want to admit to Anas that he’s in love with her.

Tierra

Deb- I agree with you on the Vero situation, someone will catch her and Pablo? Or will she follow her heart as Soledad advised and break the engagement?

I was trying to get this posted yesterday, but oh well, better late than never

Sophia doesn't want to talk to Leo, but does anyway.
Leo offers support
Sophia rejects

Nestor & Brigitte discuss what happend to the boys (they went to jail) Brigitte is unusually concerned. Nestor wonders why. Brigitte drops the 'Flavio & I used to be friends w/benefits' bomb.
Nestor is not thrilled (In her defense she tried to tell him before and he said he didn't care about her past.)

Rocio tries to convince Pablo that Vero is just playing w/him - one last fling before her wedding- Pablo doesn't want to hear it.

Caye & Vero's mom (who are friends again) discuss on the phone their respective plans to "save" "their" daughters. Vero's mom is all 'congrats on your victory, now what about Sole?' Caye is telling her that Sole has a choice: either hit the road for distant parts unknown, or go to jail. Her wheelchair bound conscience interrupts; reminding her all the crap they have already done to Sole.
Caye is unrepentant. Brief discussion re the daughter Caye took away. Papa knows about her but not who she is now, and Caye isn't telling. At some point during this Leo slithers in to add his superfluous two cents.(I'm going to be referring to Leo as a snake from now on, because that is how I'm seeing him. He slithers in, and hisses lies and threats, and spreads his venom around, and wraps himself ever tighter around Caye, strangling her good sense.)

Vero's novio makes moves on her and she lies back and thinks of England, and wishes he were still there. Visions of Pablo heat things up but guilt interrupts.

Pati doesn't feel like singing or anything else -Sam problems
Hey this will cheer her up, Candela's ring can now be hers and Matamoros will make her famous if she just says yes. He's making good progress, lots of progress -they're getting married!

Vero's novio is trying to make progress w/her but no such luck.

(The next parts are intercut and I'm mushing them together, or apart, or something)

Art is talking to a detective, he tries to cover for Sole -she knew little to nothing, she wasn't involved. There is a knock at the door, neither man wants to be interrupted until Art knows its Sophia!
Sophia is here to confront and shame him but Art uses the opportunity to state his case - He tells her he loves her, he tells her what happened to his sister and that he doesn't believe his pregnant sister would have killed herself. Sophia would never, but she says different people react differently. Art says he knows his sister and he believes someone killed her. He and his bros went to work for her mom to investigate, when they were at the lowest point of their lives, her mom even put them in the street.
He tells her that he was the first to fall in his own trap, falling in love with Sophia. She scoffs and questions the whole 'your mom kicked us out of our house' thing and he explains.
His parents left them a house. He had to mortage it to pay for his bros education, and fell behind on the payments, but was negotiating w/the bank when her father paid off the house, intending to give it back to them as a gift to Alma.
Arturo would never have accepted it, of course, but didn't get a chance to reject it, because Ignacio died and her mom destroyed the document ceding the house back to los Gallardos
Even ask her if you don't believe me. Sophia doesn't buy it.

Caye kicks Sole out, with Leo's backup. She has to leave right now with only the clothes on her back and no severance pay. Everybody is against Sole except the general. Soledad makes a tearful farewell to the Del Junco household staff and Abuelo and the girls who she loves like her own.
Sophia returns home just as Sole is walking out the door and asks what is going on. Caye explains, and Sophia wants to wait at least till morning, but no. Next she suggests she will drive Sole to Houston, but Pablo is johnny-on-the spot taking care of it.
(The next part shows how Sole is the one who really raised these girls and gave them the love their mother seems incapable of.)
Sole says she still loves all the girls and will always love them as she has since they were children. She reminisces about them and their childhood and shows us how well she knows them. She says she wished she hadn't disappointed them, and sadly leaves, as Caye stands alone on the stairs accusingly, cold and hard like a beautiful lifelike statue.

After Soledad leaves, the girls lament together over her treason and reason it out - something doesn't add up- why would Sole betray them? Sophia will find out. She goes and asks Caye what if she ever did Sole any harm and then follows up w/a question about the Gallardo house.

Brigitte visits Flavio in the clink -Nestor knows about us He asks her to ask Irina to visit him(good luck with that buddy)

Sam is worried that Matamoros is making moves on Pati while he's in jail. He's right. He reminisces about being Pati's cherubin.
Flavio flashes back to happier times w/Irina
Arturo remembers when he and Sophia were together

Thanks, novelera, for Thursday's recap, and belated thanks to deb and Hombre for Tuesday and Wednesday. I've been out all three nights and have only now caught up.

I'm glad that Anas now knows that Elias is the traitor. Novelera, I love your idea of Anas et al. moving into the warehouse and pretending to sell perfume as a way to drive Ferrara BSC!

I think it may be possible that Renato and some of the others may recognize Iggy's name if indeed his name were associated with the license plate number that Chad copied. After all, Anas tasked Renato with getting rid of the three guys who raped her, and it's certainly possible that in trying to carry out Anas' request/order, Renato found out Iggy's name.

I was (and still am) mystified by the bruise on Lu's leg. I doubt it came from his holding her down while he raped her. The karate chop that he gave her seemed to knock her out completely, so she wouldn't have struggled against him.

I confess I cheered when Vero lit into Delia and was brutally honest with her. I wonder, though, whether Delia will be so outraged that she'd denounce her son (and his wife) to the police.

Dueños

I didn’t mean to imply that Lu’s thigh bruise came from her struggling to fight off Iggy. I'm sure she was knocked out cold when it happened (whatever "it" is). But I do think he squeezed her or held her hard, causing that bruise, to do whatever it is he did to her.

DUEÑOS, Viernes

Anas is livid that Elias is working with the cops, and tells Renato she wants Elias DEAD before she returns from Columbia.

Silvana continues telling her story with Riquelme. She got pregnant by Nicanor. He promised to leave his wife, but of course he didn't. Nataniel was furious when he found out. Even though Silvana said she loved Nicanor, Nat forced Silvana to have an abortion against her will. Then he told his guys that Nicanor had raped Silvana, and he wanted Nicanor's head! Olmeda and crew went after him. They killed a few innocent bystanders, then took Nicanor out into a field, beat him, took out a chainsaw, and they got Nat what he wanted. Ewww.

Gina is helping Leandro shoot up morphine, and Paola catches them.

José Carlos is working out in a boxing ring, when Iggy shows up. Iggy asks why José doesn't want Paola to marry him. Cuz you're a jerk. Iggy wants him to leave town. Jose says you just want to marry Paola to be in charge of the cartel. Well, guess what, if Leandro dies, I'M the first in line, not you! Iggy tries to hit him, but Jose is a trained boxer, and easily gets the better of Iggy, until Iggy pulls a gun. Jose says you're a coward, then grabs for the gun.

Renato and Elias are going to reopen the factory, which seems to be bugged already, as Ferrara is listening. Riquelme arrives, and Ferrara tells him to keep it quiet, but Elias is working for us. So far, Renato hasn't let on that he knows that Elias is a traitor with a short expiration date.

Adán gets ready to leave for Colombia, Olmeda and others will be the guards for his house. Adán tells Lu and Vero it'll only be two days. Delia comes in, Vero spills it that Delia now knows everything. Lu says she understands why Vero wants a divorce, since Dad sells marijuana. No, corrects Adán, it's cocaine.

Ferrara interrogates Alejo. He wants Alejo to tell his story. Alejo laughs, until Ferrara reveals that Analía told him everything. Your wife turned you in. Alejo is in shock. We see a montage, with Ave Maria in the background, we see Tomás in the hospital, Daisy with Augustin, as the cops raid Alejo's house and other locations, find drugs and lots and lots of cash. Alejo says his wife would never talk, but Ferrara said to save her child, she would. Unfortunately for Analía, we see she's not with her kid, she's in prison garb, locked up in jail. Ayyy. Ferrara says if you cooperate too, Esparza, in six months, we'll give you two a new identity under the witness protection program. It's your decision.

DUEÑOS, Part 2

Delia has a heart to heart with Adán. I'm not going to stop you from what you're doing. I just have two requests. Be VERY careful, and 2) be the BEST, earn the MOST. Whoa!

Anas has lots of cash on the bed, wonders how they'll launder it. Forget that, says Conrado, let's get it on! But Renato comes in. Or maybe they have to take the money with them? After Anas and Conrado leave, Irene confronts Renato, says she knows he sent that guy Bob to spy on Anas. We see Anas filling Conrado in on some of the contacts in Colombia. Back to Irene, saying she just has to tell Anas. Renato isn't happy about this.

Adán says goodbye to his family, although Lu isn't there, and Vero is a bit cold. Delia is totally backing him, she'll pray for him. On the way out, Adán gazes at beautiful Érica in a midriff blouse (this is noticed by Vero). Inside the house, Lu is crying, tells Chad about the cocaine, he says he didn't know either. Her whole body aches. Chad notices the bruise on her leg.

In the airport, Anas and Conrado are going to go separately. They both have their “straight” identities (Conrado is just himself, Anas is Muriel). Will they make it through customs? Anas does. Adán does. Conrado tells the agent he's afraid of flying (he is), that's why he's nervous. He gets through, too.

Analía has her first night in jail. She looks destroyed.

Chad tells Vero that Lu has a bruise on her leg, looks as if someone hurt her.

Renato tells Irene don't blackmail me. Irene plays it cool. Renato asks what she wants. She replies, if you won't have sex with me, how about just coming up to my room, and we'll talk and have a drink. He grabs a bottle of tequila, follows her.

José Carlos is back in the restaurant, having survived Iggy's intimidation. He tells Marina he's going to have a nice dinner, when Leandro saunters in and sits down at his table.

Elias is working at the factory, looking through some papers. He hears a noise, goes outside, and someone is waiting for him.

We're now entering Etapa Culminante. Sounds good!

another wonderful recap Hombre!

I wonder if that was Nicanor's wife that Olmeda gunned down when they picked up him up, and I can't imagine any one using a chainsaw to cut someone up, way too messy.

I guess so much for Gina's plan for some quick bucks, I think she is looking for a plan B, loved how Paola grabbed her by the arm and threw her out the door, these two girls are just never going to get along.

I really wanted to see José Carlos hit Iggy some more.

it seems like no one knows Alejo's place was raided.

so Conrado is traveling with a guitar case? (is it full of money) I think that's why he is nervous, and not traveling with Anas.

that Irene is too deep and dark for me to even comprehend, so she was doing a little surveillance tapping into Bob the hitman, and discovered Renato was going to have the Chileano killed, will she tell Anas, I doubt it, she just wants a handle on Renato, I think she knows whoever controls Renato, controls the works.

Dueños

Thanks, Hombre. Great recap. Always amazed how you get it all in so swiftly.

I know nothing about narco heads, but my guess is a cartel leader addicted to drugs would lose the respect of his crew if it were known. If Iggy were smart, he’d use LQ’s vulnerability against him. But Iggy is a psycho and I can’t see him leading a cartel even if LQ is out of the picture.

José Carlos is much more a commanding figure than Iggy and I too loved him boxing the crap out of him. I think José Carlos was just taunting Iggy about being the son and therefore the successor of the cartel because he truly wants no part of that life.

Seems like Nicanor did love Silvana and had just broken up with his wife in that restaurant before Cardona’s men attacked both of them.

I don’t know what to think about Érica and Adán. My take is he has a longing for her and she has a desire to be desired by him, but I don’t think they’d make each other happy. They should just stay friends.

Liking Chad more now. At least he alerted Vero that something is wrong with Lu.

Etapa culminante? Can’t believe it’s coming so soon. My interest in this show never waned.

Thurs 3/12
part 1

Open on Sophia questioning her Ma about the Gallardo ranch, Caye says oh well, sorry, too late, I sold it to Valverde already.

Leo is at the police station, he wants to make a statement against the Gallardos since he was one of the people they hurt the most.(whatever dude) Nestor kinda agrees w/me but Leo makes his statement and throws in everything and the kitchen sink (my fingers get tired, I’m not getting specific)

Vero’s mom gives her the news about Sole being fired & kicked out, and then chides her for worrying about a servant. Vero calls Pablo to find out if Sole is ok and ends up planning to meet w/him later.

Sole is still at Juana’s place. She is planning to hit the road and look for a job. Juana & her daughter offer her a job and a place to stay with them. Sole just wants to help the boys. They’re on it. Juana’s son is @ the jail talking w/them now.

Andrea burns Sam’s stuff she has been hoarding and thought bubbles that its better to finish with Sam before he finishes her.

Sophia meets with her dad’s lawyer about the Gallardo ranch. (Still digging, good for her) The lawyer tells her Art was telling the truth, but he thinks her father wasn’t making rational decisions because he was so enamorada de Alma and the lawyer thinks Alma was manipulating Ignacio.

Vero goes to Juana’s to ask Sole why she helped los Gallardos. Sole tells Vero the story of Alma and explains that her resemblance is why the boys are so fond of her. Sole also says that the boys really fell in love w/the girls and that wasn’t part of the plan.
Vero is going to London tomorrow & doesn’t know if she will ever come back, Sole tries to convince her to make the right decisions and take the path that will make her truly happy. (I can’t tell how much is sinking in)

Caye & Leo talk about nosy Sophia. They both realize her love for Art is at the root of her investigation. Leo eggs Caye on in her plan to keep the boys in jail. Caye calls a judge friend of hers.

Bea meets w/the boys in jail. She will try to help get them out and they ask her to help Soledad.
Pati & Matamoros have a bright future together, but Sam is fretting about Pati from jail. The boys are about to have the ‘Pati is a tramp, you can do better’ ‘hey don’t say bad stuff about my girl’ fight for the millionth time when in walks Vero.
The boys are radiant & Vero is on their side, but she’s leaving tomorrow & that puts a damper on things.

Now Vero goes to say goodbye to Pablo – part of which includes not actually telling him she’s leaving till after they make love –actually rolling in the actual hay – cause ya know it’s a ranch.

Thurs part 2

The guard comes into the cell and calls Art & Flavio but not Sam. Sam is all ‘hey guys don’t forget about me’

Flavio & Nestor have the Brigitte conversation, but really Flavio’s there for Irina. They can talk alone as long as they play nice – of course they don’t.
She seems most pissed about Brigitte being his messenger (coulda told you that wouldn’t go over well dude) Flavio tries to explain how it was, she don’t believe a word of it, she won’t hardly even listen.

Art’s visitor is Sidepiece. Apparently she is a lawyer too! She’s there to help (yikes) She knows the whole story and she wants to represent him. Caye is trying to convince the judge not to grant bail because the boys are a flight risk. Lic. Sidepiece can get them out, but it’ll be tricky, Caye has friends and contacts. All Art has to do is sign away his soul. – She even offers him a job managing his old ranch.
He prefers not

Sophia goes to Juana’s (which is apparently the ”Rick’s” of Houston, because sooner or later everybody seems to go there) Sophia wants to know about Alma. Juana tells her Alma really loved her dad and she didn’t know he was married and she thought he was going to marry her. The night she died after Caye threw her out of the ranch and humiliated her, Alma asked Juana to take her to Houston, but the car broke down and Juana never saw her alive again.
Juana begs Sophia to drop the charges, Sophia leaves without saying she will or won’t.

Sole goes to Gallardo papa’s grave to cry about Vero leaving and never seeing her daughter again. Nestor catches her there.

Art tells the other two what Lic Sidepiece said

Andrea and her bf talk about what’s going on or not going on between them

Andrea: I do not now nor have I ever had anything going with Samuel
BF: Yeah, but you love him, which ends up being the same for me. It sucks
So bf will either go to London w/Vero & her novio or Andrea can marry him
(I might have cheated a bit on this convo and included a tiny bit from Fri, I can’t remember)

Tierra

I know I was kind of snarky about Vero & Pablo making love but it was actually really sweet. I think it was their first time.

Sometimes I can't turn the snark off soon enough. I think its cause I'm getting tired of too much angst.

Dueños

Wow, Hombre, how did you get your recap up so fast? I pretty much went directly from the TV to my computer to post the message about "etapa culminante" and then turned off the computer for the night. I didn't see your recap then, but just now I checked CarayCaray again and found your recap with a time stamp just about identical to mine. How in the world (or out of the world) did you write such a terrific recap so quickly??

Deb, I too was delighted to see Jose Carlos beating up Iggy. OTOH, given all the nasty guys that Iggy knows, Jose Carlos may not be long for this world. I'm not sure what LQ's take on all this is--probably also not so good for JC.

So how many weeks are we likely to have if we've just entered etapa culminante?

Dueños

Thanks so much, Hombre. As others have said your ability to get it all so succinctly amazes me.

Ok, I'm officially over my dislike of Silvana. That forced abortion was awful! And it ties together her desire to be close to Rodrigo, her half brother. Maybe she'll end up with him when things go bad for Anas. Nataniel refused to have anyone know his daughter had been in love with Nicanor, telling everyone she'd been raped.

I missed etapa culminante. I have no idea of the ratings for this one, but maybe Kate committed for "x" episodes and no more. I guess we always knew this one was not going to be long. And I suppose it will be replaced by El Señor de los Cielos III. I remember seeing a tiny promo of that showing Aurelio in a cell somewhere. I don't plan on watching the newest El Señor. I think Dueños is SO good, with so much character development and good acting. I wish it would go on longer.

Yes, I backed up the recording and watched Iggy get knocked down a couple more times. I agree that José Carlos doesn't really want to be head of the cartel, just drive Iggy nuts. It was interesting that JC told him he didn't dare kill a Quezada. I'm not so sure Leandro would care, but Iggy can't be sure about that.

Niecie, good point about the head of a cartel losing the respect of his underlings if revealed to be a drug user. I agree.

Irene is the MOST ambivalent character I can remember seeing in a telenovela. She had won me over when they showed that awful guy blackmailing her and then trying to kill her. But the way she behaves with Renato is awful. I can't imagine having so little pride as to continuously pursue a man who has no interest in you. Wait! Isn't that the way nearly all TN villainesses behave?

Duenos

New person to root for: Jose Carlos! Even if he were in the drug trade, I'd still support him just for beating up Izzy, even when Izzy had a gun.

Kelly

DUENOS:

Great comments! BTW, I had to do the recap quickly, because today I was in New York all day at the opera (it was fantastic!). I pretty much did the recap while the show was on, typing extra fast during the commercials! Usually I do it the next day, but I didn't want you all to have to wait.

My current favorites are Silvana, Vero and Jose Carlos. And Renato. Is there something wrong with me that the character I hate the most, even more than Iggy, is Ferrara? (!) I like all the other cops, even Saul.

DUENOS:

As for etapa culminante, the last time I saw that (in another show), there ended up being more than 50 episodes left. We're not into ultimas semanas, which can be as long as 7 weeks, and ultimos capitulos, which I've seen last as long as 5 weeks. Of course, those might be Univision conventions, Telemundo could be less. I think we still have quite a ways to go. For example, Maria Elena Sweet is always on the opening credits, but we haven't seen her, have we?. She supposedly plays "Vanessa Esparza".

DUENOS:

Correction, Maria Elena Swett.

Sneaky TS

Thank you so much for the Tierra recaps. I'm always
excited to find them.

Did I imagine it, or did I see Cayetana quickly brush aside a tear as Soledad was saying good bye? Maybe there's a heart in there somewhere.

Dueños
Super recap Hombre, gracias

Did anyone notice that Silvana had on the same nail-polish while being held captive & while talking to Riquelme?

Dueños

I've come to think of 'etapa culminante' as being the final third stage of a novela and since we are probably in a shorter narco novela and last friday was capitulo 44, that seems about right.

what I wonder about is that big splash screen in the intro saying SUPER SERIES, and if this is a series it really doesn't have to end.

Dueños (mostly not)
OMG, Hombre, were you at the Met watching "La Donna del Lago"? I watched it in a local cine Live in HD, and it was one of the most amazing performances I've ever seen! No wonder it's not performed more often: how many companies can put together the necessary stellar cast, not just for one or two roles but for almost all of them?

BTW, getting back to Dueños, I pretty much agree with your four favorites. I don't, however, share your dislike of Ferrara. Perhaps it's just a carryover from my adoring Alberto Jiménez's Oleg Yasikov in La Reina del Sur, but I can't make myself hate Ferrara, in spite of his treating a number of people badly.

Tierra

wow, thanks so much sneaky ts, there were quite a few details that you touched on that I had missed.

I'm a little confused about Valverde's involvement with Ignacio's death, as I was thinking Leonardo did all that.

and so now Sofia is off to visit her dad's Houston apartment, and as Star puts it, continues to poke the hornet's nest, but I seem to remember that Nestor had already checked that place out.

DUENOS, Sort of

Yes, Juanita, I was there, watching Joyce DiDonato, Juan Diego Florez, John Osborn and Daniela Barcellona amaze us with their voices!

At least the opera had a happy ending, I'm not sure Duenos will.

Tierra

Sneaky TS- your recaps are always welcome, snark and all!!

Deb- Gallardo snr almost arrested Valverde but Valverde killed him and his wife. Nestor checked for evidence of Alma's death in the apt but Sophia is looking for evidence of her dad's and Alma's relationship.
