Que Te Perdone Dios #78 – In Which Diego is Engaged to His Half Sister, Punched by His Brother-in-law and Disdained by His Brother or Nephew

Refried: Patricio avoids mentioning that he knows something went on between Mat and Abi in Mexico, and Renata says how much she likes Xi-ela (in Daniela configuration) and Pat rants against Xi-ela (in Ximena configuration). Also, Mat and Diana discutir, he says don’t meter mi mamá, and she says mamá and Padre Tomás are on her side. He’s the one who started this war.

New: All members of Xi-ela are in their apartment, and Ximena complains that she gets bored on her week off from Porfirio. What, did she stop going to spas and such? Is that really how she sees this unique opportunity, as simply a week off from Porfis? Well, of all the places in the big, wide world she could go, she wants to go to Real de San Andrés. She wants to check out this place that Daniela likes, she’s interested in meeting Renata, and she wants to “help” Dani with the Pat situation.

Pat-n-Mat are with Ren in the living room of the Hacienda, pressuring Ren to get re-operated on. They say, “Come on, another guy did it, so you should, too.” Renata brings out the very salient point that we don’t know yet in what shape this other guy is in, do we? Let’s wait and see. If he lives, we’ll talk. Diana enters, sporting the yucky beige blouse and unflattering skirt she’s been wearing, and starts a sob story about how hard it is to be pregnant, and that is why she’s acted like a total witch. She apologizes for faltando el respeto to Abi. Ren forgives her, but only on the condition that if Diana does it again, both her and Mat are out of the Hacienda. Mat tells her to stop being fake nice, and they proceed to have an argument about him telling her to apologize, now she’s doing it and he’s still mad. Ren and Pat are like, “Awkward,” as they are forced to witness this private dispute. Diana goes back to blaming her pregnancy and the fact that her man wants to leave her for acting out of sorts. Incredibly, Pat and Ren declare themselves on her side rather than Mat’s. He’s also stunned and whines that it isn’t fair. Diana keeps working it, upping the ante by saying she wants to organize an engagement party for Abi and Diego. Mat looks like he has major heart burn and a bad taste in his mouth.

At the Enramada, Helena and Fausto are shouting at each other outside, and Fausto is manhandling Helena by the arms. She accuses him of killing Gerardo. He asks who put that idea into her head. She says that it’s the only thing that makes sense, she worked it out herself. Well, that only took 35 years, Helena. You just haven’t thought about it much over the years, huh? Fausto turns it around and blames her, but it’s weak. Nieves comes out and ends the moment. Fausto creepily cups her face in his hands, telling her everything is fine. He leaves and Helena bursts into tears in Nieves’ arms.

Toño is stumbling down the street to The Cantina, when Motor shows up and gives Toño a friendly greeting. Toño stares at him for a bit, then turns away without a word, cutting Motor cold. What a jerk.

Meanwhile, Simona is at home with Violeta and Padre Tomás, discussing said jerk. Simona still believes Toño is her good boy. Tomás is ready with some of his trademark great advice and insight, and says love is what will get through to Toño, rather than the sound slap that Simona proposed. He’ll take the case, pro bono, stat.

At Diego’s house, he, Grandma Vicenta and Domingo are having breakfast, with charming gestures and encouragement to eat. Trying so hard to be cute that you could gag. It’s not that bad, I just dislike these silly filler scenes that show how darned nice the non-villains are. Vicenta mentions that it’s the engagement party today. QTH? Did I miss a “one week later,” or even a “next day”? I thought Diana just offered to set it up a few minutes ago. What did I miss? But it’s true, and now Vic is totally on board and gives her coveted blessing. Even though they both openly discuss the fact that Abi doesn’t love Diego. “But maybe she’ll come to love me,” wimps Diego. “Sure she will. Who wouldn’t?” denies reality Grandma. Yeah, this is normal. And a great example for the kid, too.

Ren has summoned Mac to her room, and Mac comes shimmying in. “How dare you tell Abi that I was Pablo’s lover! You had no right. Plus, she thinks Fausto is her dad.” Mac doesn’t seem overly concerned. “Ya, ya, ya, ya, I’m sick of covering for you. Next time I’ll tell her the whole truth.” Fausto walks in, shuts Mac down, and is thanked by Ren. He’s got a nice brown ensemble working – hat, shirt and jacket. He kisses Ren on the forehead and she seems to be regarding him favorably. Fausto asks what the upcoming party is for, speculating that it is for his political victory, but Ren won’t say, only that he’ll find out soon enough.

Epifenia is at home, and goes by sis at the breakfast table, carrying a tray up to her room. She’s reading a good book so will take breakfast in her room. Of course the real reason is that Toño is there. This relationship has always been sick, but is getting worse by the episode. Epi asks after Julian, and then says in a motherly way that Toño’s dad must be so worried about him. Is she the lover or mother of this kid?

Diana has gone to visit her cousin/brother, and he says that the party is for her, celebrating that Abi will be married off. They discuss the potential meaning of Helena’s outburst, looking for advantages. Knowledge of something bad is power. If it can’t be used to manipulate, then it can be used to destroy.

The party is all set up at the Hacienda. Diego is dopey, and Abi has her usual pained expression. Dopey notices, and she says she would have preferred a small party. Way to get off on the wrong foot. He doesn’t care, he is allowed to paw Abi and soon to do more. He tells her that Vic now approves. Abi tries to smile. Diego is floundering, and uses his tired “clean, pure love” line to try to make her feel better about marrying somebody for whom she has no passion. Yeah, but did I say clean and pure love? He kisses her, and Fausto shows up. He separates them, waits about a week, and punches Diego in the face. “¡Igualado! ¡Lárgate!” he shouts. Mateo is the next one to arrive, and it’s he who announces the wedding to Fausto. Fausto calms down and says nothing remains except to wish them the best, in that case, and stalks off. Mateo is rude and condescending, telling them to “enjoy their day.”

Fausto wastes no time in laying into Renata for allowing this with Diego. He’s a muerto de hambre, no money, no future. Ren not only allows, she approves, she won’t keep them apart like her dad did. Yeah, but you and Pablo both wanted to be together, right, not just him? How are you helping Abi in this scenario? Fausto suggests that Diego wants to get his hands on Abi’s land. No Fausto, just her person will do him fine.

Mat is calming down with Mommy Helena inside. “I know there’s nothing to worry about, right? You’re not going to do anything to ruin this wedding, right? Right?” Mat won’t agree. He asks, “Am I supposed to go to this wedding and be a witness to my unhappiness?” No, Mat, you don’t have to go. I would think it would be incredibly awkward if you went. He slips into a brief emoting as he says how he will not stop fighting for the love of his life.

Now Ren and Abi are inside, somewhere else. For some reason, even though Ren knows that Abi is only marrying Diego to try to forget about Mat, and that it isn’t working, she starts talking like you would to a girl in love. “Soon my little girl will be married, and maybe even have a baby.” If nothing else has snapped Abi out of her trance of stoopidness, I would think this would do it. I don’t think she has contemplated that there will actually be consummation of this marriage, and that children could result from it. But she’s only worried about how Mac will act when she finds out. “I’ll handle Mac,” says Ren.

One scene with Lucio and Max. Lucio is chopping up fruit for Max’s breakfast. He’s such a sweet rapist and killer. Max stumbles out of his room, a late riser. Lucio says they were working in the fields together? If that’s true, then Max is taking this Prince and the Pauper thing too far. Lucio says they are going to a party, something for Abi. They also do not know about the engagement, then. Max goes on a pity trip, saying he can’t get Abi now, because he is sick and poor. Lucio says he still has love to offer. Yeah, but it’s not clean, pure love. Besides, Max doesn’t want to re-enact his uncle’s marriage, with him as the Phantom and Abi as Christine/Ximena. He starts bleeding from his nose. He won’t get new medical studies for another two months. I hope he makes it until then.

Simona is in her indomitable, sí se puede mode, and is encouraging Violeta to go to the party. Violeta doesn’t want to run into Marcelino. Simona says half the town thinks that she is a murderer, and she’s still going, so Violeta needs to get her rear in gear and get to the party. All in all, it was good advice, I thought. Xi-ela shows up to the house, with a lightning bolt necklace on, but acting sweet (trying to). She meets Violeta, and Simona wants her to crash the party. She demurs, but we see a few scenes later that she goes.

Motor and the female servants (Teodora, Juanita and Nieves) run into Abi and Diego at the party, now in full swing. They are joking and acting like normal people at a party, while Abi mopes. The boys go off for a beer, so the girls can have girl talk. So condescending. This is what you’re getting yourself into, Abi? The girls joke that Abi is leaving them as quedadas. Nieves says Motor is looking good, and Juanita, with claws out, clarifies that he is apartado! Then what about Max? Teodora is all against that, but Abi says, be nice, he’s sick with leukemia. Teodora asks, “So he could die?” Did she sound hopeful there?

Motor laments to Diego that he can’t get his girl the way Diego did. He is talking about Eduviges of course. Diego, Padre Tomás-like, advises him to keep trying, never give up, believe, and offer pure, clean love. You can’t lose, dude. Motor and Edu exchange a look across the party.

Mac has been summoned yet again to Ren’s quarters. Mac is informed that Abi and Diego are engaged and that she will support it, like it or not. Ren will give her a check after the wedding, any amount she wants, to ensure her cooperation. Mac asks the obvious question: “Any amount I want?”

Ximena is off by herself, but soon joins the table of female misfits that are Epifenia, Eduviges, Violeta, Renata, Helena and Simona. Simona is saying something positive in her campaign voice, but then leaves to go take a bottle away from Toño. “Do you want to be the town drunk?” “That’s rich, coming from a jailbird!” He deserves a nice slap. Simona remonstrates with him, that he knows who she really is, what kind of person she is, regardless of the incarceration. At least she is innocent. But is Julian innocent of all the things he was in jail for? Who is he? Toño stubbornly insists that he knows Julian (not even his real name) just fine, but there is doubt in his eyes.

Boring Benito is in the kitchen, and Vicenta and Amanda ask him to help out. Being busy doesn’t stop them from gossiping about the fact that Abi is getting engaged to her half-brother. Mac comes in and joins the fray. “We won’t say anything. Let’s just let her marry her half-brother.” What’s with the half-brother appellation? They think Diego is Renata’s half-brother, which would make him Abi’s half-uncle, and that’s only because they are in the know that Abi is Renata’s daughter. If Diego is Ren’s brother, then Fausto is his brother-in-law, and Mateo his nephew. Vicenta says they just need to trust her. So they do.

Close up of Abi’s queasy smiley face, and Fausto looking on in the background. Diana confronts him, saying he looks jealous. He tells her, “Go to hell,” and walks off.

The final scene: Xi-ela says to Renata, “You must think so poorly of me because of what Pat says.” Xi-ela mentions that she would have liked to have a happy engagement party for her daughter, but Pat took that away from her. Way to bolster your image to Renata, saying things like that! Then, for the first time, Renata shows some discernment and somebody calls Xi-ela on their bull. Renata says, “You’ll think I’m crazy for saying this, but you seem like a totally different person. Even though your voice is the same, everything else is different.” Xi-ela says that’s a dumb thing to say, but Renata isn’t convinced.

Avances: Mat and Abi alone, declaring love, almost kissing. 1000 yawns. Fausto tries to reason with Abi not to marry Diego.

TN4ever- Stellar recap. Loved the title. I'll comment more later, but two things-- there was a three weeks later shown on screen for the time passing, and the kitchen folks were not saying that Abi is marrying her half brother, but her mother's half brother. They all know who Abi's real parents are.

Thanks Vivi, both points make a lot more sense now. So in the phrase "Renata deja que Abi se case con su medio hermano" it's Renata's medio hermano, not Abi's. Of course. And I'm sure I was looking down when the "three weeks later" went by. I asked my husband if he saw anything, but he was sending a text just then. He's supposed to be my back up! Either way I was glad things were moving along.

I love your recap TN4Ever, it cracked me up despite not seeing this action packed episode yet. I dont know if its just me or Fausto is panicking way too much to the fact that Diego is taking his beloved Aby to a stroll? It may be because of his obsession with Abi & to not repeat the past but could it be something else. Could Faust be Diego's secret daddy dearest?

I wish the writers had not made Lucio a rapist because then I could actually enjoy the nuances of the scene where he was cutting up Max's fruit. I still don't understand what narrative value it served for him to rape that poor girl. Just like I don't understand why we had to witness Fausto raping Renata a 2nd and 3rd time. No narrative value whatsoever, when the woman is now letting him slobber all over her and thinks he's a good guy. If three rapes don't show you a person's character, I don't know what would.

After the time jump, Diana was finally wearing clothing that isn't skin-tight. And Mateo was still pouting. I had to laugh at how Diana got everyone on her side. She's good.

I also what to give Tony a good slap, or two. Simona is way more patient and kind than I am.

Ximena really needs to cool it with the "Pat killed my daughter" talk if she wants to convince these people that she's the same person as Xi-ela. Yeah, Ren's hyper blind senses only work sometimes. Very inconsistent. Nice to see Ximena thrown off guard though.

Vivi I think the reason they made the rape storyline is cause they might plan to make romance between Max and Teodora. Max despite rebelling against the aristocratic Porfirio he still blindly follows his bio dad in his destructive path. What better way to seperate them for good than for Max to learn his father raped the love of his life?

Im very pithed with the Tony storyline, he truly is frustrating and naive. I would think only an accident/ stroke / heart attack could shape Tony to forgive , bah!

I dont think Ximena is actually trying to help Dan to achieve her only goal in life but she's not that good acting either.

Just wanted to say that I don't watch this TN, but the title made me want to so Kudos to the recapper!

Thank you Hellashelle! It turns out I'm all mixed up on that family tree, but I probably know more than most in the family itself!

Count, interesting explanation and possibilities on the Teodora storyline. Lucio did that to keep her from talking about Di and Fausto to Mat. It worked at the time, unlike the murder of poor Freddy, which didn't keep Simona from winning the election.

Vivi, I had been able to see Lucio as the tortured soul he sees himself to be, beholden to Fausto by sick ties of loyalty. After some time went by, I got over the murders of the other Padre and Freddy (so different from real life!), but after he raped Teo and how he behaved the morning after I lost all sympathy. Will that incident be what makes Max turn away from him, even if Max doesn't love Teo? Is there an incident that could turn Max away from Lucio?

So only Vicenta (and now Padre) know the truth about Diego. And she has revealed that Bruno is NOT the father. So what other candidates can there even be? Fausto seems obvious, esp. with Helena's flashback of him dumping her for a country girl. The Pablo theory is a possibility. Are there even any other males on this show old enough to fill the bill? Lucio and Benito are too young, right? Is it Dr. Pat?!! Marcelino? Barragan?

Wedding tonight, for sure. What could possibly go wrong?

Hi everyone. A bit late for the party but better late than never. Thanks TN4ever, awesome recap. Its like everybody does as they see fit in this TN. Its not Diana's place to throw an engagement party for Abigail. She hates the girl and Isn't she a guest in that house? its not Fausto's place to bring in an associate, the property isn't his. This whole thing is confusing me. Mac's evil deeds are getting to me and Renata should get the operation already. This whole thing is dragging. They could learn a lot from the writers of La Sombre del pasado. Well balanced writing and very well acted. What is this with the one twin servicing both father and son? ewwwww!!!!! truly sick. kissing cousins in TNs is bad enough but father and son with the same woman? Really!!! I am not modern enough..

Hanna

Thanks for the great recap TN4Ever. Why again is Abi marrying Diego, because i seriously don't understand. Diana is just happy to send Abi away, and Renata playing games with Mac especially with money is a bad idea that is eventually going to backfire badly. Mateo is pretty nonredeemable for me to root for.

TN4Ever

Thanks for posting a great recap.
The background music they play when Fausto is lusting after Abigail is sickening. It sounds like a big gross tongue lapping dog. It is so gross.
This novela is moving at a snail's pase now.
