Lo Imperdonable #45 Mon 7/20/15 Marty, get help!

The Sad Plight of Polo and Onix

Much of this episode centers on Polo and his dog Onix huddled in the tunnel of the abandoned mine.  The little boy tries to keep his growing fears at bay and remain hopeful although this becomes increasingly difficult as the hours pass and no one shows up to rescue him.  We cringe at a sudden shower of dust and gravel – is this tunnel going to collapse?  (Polo is more worried about the ghosts of dead miners.)

He stands up suddenly and hits his head.  Yow!  And his foot is hurt.  Are he and Onix ever going to get out of there alive?  Who will save them?  Well at least they have a little fruit and water in the market bag he was carrying when he ran away from Manuel.  But he is really scared.  So very scared.

The Polo search is another chance for our characters to define themselves.

Nobody is surprised that Manny, who is, in fact, responsible for the crisis, refuses to lift a finger to help.  Not only that, he tells the miners at Mina La Perla that they will be docked a day's pay if they join the search party.  Of course the men all opt to join Joaquín in the search for his son, understanding that the safety of a child is more important than money.

Joaquín has the knack of hanging tough with idiot Manuel, mobilizing the search, keeping everyone hopeful and gentling his difficult wife.

Julio sets Ana Perla free so she can help look for her cousin, knowing full well it will earn him a punch in the face.

Ana Perla also finds the courage to face up to her malicious brother Manuel and the antediluvian Old Goat in order to join the search for Polo.

Pierre, the kindly lecher, puts the resources of the hotel at the disposal of the searchers.

Dr. F, who needs to keep up appearances, agrees to help.  He smiles for the world even as he gnashes his teeth at the inconvenience of it all.

Ginny finds it all very tedious, though she makes a feeble offer of help to Pierre, who turns her down graciously.

Claudia may be the only one in town who seems oblivious to it all.  (It will take more than a lost child to penetrate her thick shield of self-absorption.)

Pablo has gone to the post office in Pueblo Verde to send off his paintings to Mexico and New York, so he is not involved in the drama.

Raymunda's shrill hysteria is understandable.  Not so much her mania for blaming and name-calling and the flaring up of her not so latent xenophobia. (The Old Goat has certainly left his mark on her.)

In the face of Raymunda's attack on Verónica, Magdalena makes more than a few of us gasp when she forbids her to speak about her daughter like that or she'll have Maggie herself to contend with.  For her part, Vero has a flashback to a childhood memory of a woman – her mother – stepping in front of her to shield her from her violent father's attack.

[Come on, you two – figure it out already  It's not exactly the Enigma Code!]

In spite of their personal tsuris (and Raymunda's cruel character assassinations) Magdalena and Vero work tirelessly to help find Polo.

(Magda reflects that Nanciyaga is the person who could really help since she knows the jungle better than anyone.  Of course, we know that Nanciyaga has her hands full right now... )

Rite of Passage brings Rights

Ties that don't bind
Nanciyaga explains to the now squeaky-clean Emiliano that nature, not love – or at least not love in the white man's sense of the word – brought them together.  They are strongly bound to one another, but not tied.  It was destiny that caused them to cross one another's path.

All that's missing is the rock and roll
Nanciyaga has brought young Emi home to meet the folks.  Sort of.  He sits blindfolded, his camera around his neck.  The men stand in a semicircle around him.  One of them nods and Nanciyaga removes Emi's blindfold.  So far, so good, though he must not reveal their location to anyone.  He can take photos of men and children, but he must ask permission first.

Emi is profoundly grateful to Nanciyaga.  He wants to know everything about her culture.  She tells him that the most important thing is for him to learn to love nature the way her people do.  And now she has the final test for him.  She hands him a bowl and tells him he must open his heart and let all the bad things out, leaving room for the new.

After Emi drinks the contents of the bowl, he looks dazed.  Whoa.  There's something happening here.  What it is ain't exactly clear...  Then the world goes psychedelic.  Nanciyaga becomes a Peter Max poster.  He sees Vero laughing.  At him!  And then Marty appears, also laughing meanly.  Emi holds his head as if fearing his brains might fly out if he doesn't hold them in.  He sees a blurry Virginia.  He grunts at her image miserably, like a dying animal.  He sees Jorge and Salma looking at him.  "Leave me alone!" he cries.  Then he falls down on the floor of the hut.

Nanciyaga wipes Emi's sweaty brow.  Now he sees a jaguar.  He is terrified.  Nanciyaga tells him to trust, to let himself go...

Duty first, Dr. F

In Les Oliviers, Pierre recruits Dr. F to help in the search for Polo.  Ginny, of course, is relieved since she is spared the chore of faking her way through yet another passionate interlude with the Corrupt but Competent Cardiologist with a Chip on his Manly Shoulders.

She confides to the Patio:  "Finally!  Lately, I can't stand him!"

Oh why did they ever let him out of cave jail?

Manny sees Julio and Ana Perla outside Les Oliviers.  He pounces on them, distracting Julio and then punching him out and grabbing Ana Perla.  He is going to take her back home and lock her in the bodega again.

Vero comes upon this scene.  Horrified, she rushes to Ana Perla's defense.  Manny turns on her, pushing her against the wall.  "This time your husband isn't here to defend you," he says menacingly.  He nuzzles her disgustingly, pressing himself against her.

(Ginny is watching from inside the hotel, thrilled at Manny's evident hatred for Verónica.)

But somehow Vero gets the better of Manny, kneeing him and pushing him off her.  Manny falls down, cursing her and promising to get even.

In the Office and in the tavern, the Men have decided Verónica's future.  Oh yeah.

Botel meets with Jorge and delivers Vero's letters.  When Jorge asks after Vero, Botel talks about how strong she is.  Jorge smiles appreciatively – she's always been like that.  He wants to know about Ginny and Emiliano too, but Botel hasn't really spent time with them. He says Marty is arriving in Mexico later and he'll be able to tell him what he wants to know.

Jorge's secretary pops her head in to tell the boss she hasn't been able to send his fax to Emiliano.  (Which probably means that Ginny's fax to Jorge hasn't come through either.)

Later, Botel and Marty have a drink together.  Marty tells Botel that he is going to the notary the next day to put half of his share of the mine in Vero's name.  He is completely convinced that she isn't after his money.  Why she even handed him the money Jorge gave her after the wedding.  Marty is determined to set everything straight with her – no more lies or deception!  Botel tells Marty that Jorge wants to see him.  "It will have to be today," says Marty.

And indeed, Marty dutifully calls on his father-in-law.  Jorge has heard about the plans for the new school, the church repairs and even the new house that Marty is going to build for Vero.  He is reassured by all this and by Marty's evident appreciation of Verónica.  It seems that All is Well in Green Hell.

Ginny nurses Manny's wounds and her own resentment

Ginny has taken poor, injured Manny into Les Oliviers.  Now she holds a cloth to the booboo on his forehead as she plies him for more information.  What's his problem with Verónica?  He tells her that Vero doesn't understand the rules of the town and the way women are expected to behave.  Ginny, in turn, confides in Manuel: "Don't tell anyone, but that's why my cousin was sent here – because in Mexico she had a reputation... especially with men."

It's clear that Manny would love to know more, but before Ginny can oblige him, Claudia shows up.  She is irritated to see Ginny and Manuel together after Teo left her a note saying that Manny was coming to see HER.  (Which is really a hoot.  Ever since Manny gave her a gold ring, she has started to think of him as one of her galanes!)  Ginny tells her that Manny is there waiting for Dr. F.

Interestingly, Manny looks rather alarmed at the way this conversation is going.  He slinks away, claiming he's going to look for his cousin.

Once he's gone, Claudia tells Ginny she's tired of her poaching all her suitors, starting with Emiliano.

At first, Ginny meets aggression with aggression as she warns Claudia not to go near Emi.  But she quickly switches to tearful pathos, the weapon she has wielded so expertly (even if the results have not been particularly stellar) for so many years.  She LOVES Emiliano.  She thought she was going to die without ever being loved.  Sob.  And NOW Claudia wants to destroy her happiness.

The effort to stand has become too much for Ginny.  She gasps for air and falls into a chair.  Claudia is alarmed.  "What's the matter?" she asks.  "If you're my friend," pants Ginny, "you should respect my feelings and support me.  I understand the thing with Martín was painful for you, but there's still Daniel..."

Claudia is getting really spooked now.  Is Ginny going to croak on her?  "Bring me my pills!" Ginny finds the strength to say.   Claudia trots off in search of them.

Ginny looks right into the camera, that is, right at us on the Patio, her face as hard as yesterday's bolillos.  "The things you have to do to get what you want.  That moron."  Then she laughs.

[A clink of glasses is heard on the Patio.  It's Carlos and tofie sharing a toast.  Atta girl!]

The Bad Blood and Alcohol Have Left the Building, er, the Body.

Nanciyaga wipes Emiliano's brow.  He sips the tea she has given him and asks her what has happened.  It appears that the bad blood and the alcohol have left his body, she tells him.  The elders say he has passed the test.  Then she puts a necklace on him.

¿De verdad? he says, looking immensely pleased.  She wants him to rest, but he is too revved up and just wants to talk – to her, to the elders.  She tells him he has to sleep.  She leads him to a low cot on which he flops awkwardly, his head landing somewhat south of the pillow.  But she is suddenly distracted...

Nanciyaga walks away from the cot.  He hand flies to her heart.  "Something is happening in Mina Escondida," she says.  "Nanciyaga feels the anguish."

The Search Party Reconnoiters at Joaquín's House

Vero has brought along Ana Perla.  She tells Raymunda she won't allow Manny to lock the girl in that storage room again.  Vero will take Ana Perla back to her own house rather than allow that to happen.

Raymunda is shocked.  The storage room?  Ana Perla confirms it.  Raymunda tells her niece that she can certainly stay with her tonight.  "I can't believe how wrong I was about Manuel, but when my father comes home, many things are going to change around here."

[Raymunda keeps having these temporary changes of heart.  She forgot about Manny giving Polo the knife quickly enough.  How long will this change last]

Mexico City – Marty visits Alfredo

Marty tells Alfredo that Claudia's attitude has become a real headache.  He needs to look for someone to replace her.  (Alfredo can't resist the temptation to say "I told you so.")

He asks how things are going with Verónica.  Not so great, admits Marty.  In fact, Vero wants a divorce.  Alfredo was right: Marty got caught in his own trap and he fell madly in love with Vero. Now he is so afraid of losing her.

Cut to the Hovel in Mina Escondida

Vero paces, looks at a wedding photo, holds it to her heart.  "I miss you so much.  Even though it's best to end things, I don't know how I'm going to live without you."

And back to Marty baring his soul to Alfredo

Alfredo believes that divorce might be the best solution.  If Marty has behaved that badly, if he has wounded her dignity and self-esteem, then it would be better to set her free.

Marty says it was never his intention to do so (though we know that, until about five minutes ago, it was).  They were doing so well until Emiliano showed up and he went crazy with jealousy – "you know, you know her past."

[OMG, he STILL believes all that crap about her profligate past!]

Whatever (Como sea).  Alfredo still thinks the kindest course would be to give Vero her freedom so she can be happy with someone else.

"Are you crazy?  I'll never do that!  Never!  Now I realize how much I love her and nothing else matters.  When I go home, I'm going to tell her the whole truth.  I'm going to tell her that Demetrio was my brother.  AND WHEN SHE ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THEY WERE LOVERS [Are you hearing this?] I'm going to confess that I married her for vengeance.  I want to start clean so she forgives me."

Alfredo shakes his head.  [We ALL shake our heads.]  But Marty presses on.

"Tomorrow I'm going to confess the whole truth."

Avances:  Dr. F threatens to expose the real Virginia Prado Castelo.

Love love love your recaps!
For some reason Uni did not show us in northern MI how Vero escaped from Manuel's clutches. So, I was really glad you included' "But somehow Vero gets the better of Manny, kneeing him and pushing him off her. Manny falls down, cursing her and promising to get even." Wish I could have seen that!
Question: Was there ever a hint or explanation about Ginny's parents? Why do all three "cousins" end up under one roof?

Kim

Thanks so much, Kim!

Frankly, I'm not sure I got the Vero escape right. They didn't really show us much. I guessed from the way Vero moved and the way Manny reacted that she had kneed him. Later, however, he showed up with a bruised forehead, which made no sense to me at all (unless he scraped his head when he fell).

We actually know nothing about Ginny's parents except that Ginny herself boasts of some tenuous (and likely non-existent) connection to the Prado Castelo family that makes her superior to Vero. Because of the conspicuous silence on the subject, I am expecting a bombshell of a revelation, sooner or later.

As for Vero, I believe Jorge had some kind of connection, direct or indirect, to Vero's father. When he died (if he really did die), Jorge took her in.

Emi, as you probably know, is Jorge's son from a previous marriage. We think Emi's mother is dead. Salma is his stepmother.

Hello. Hope everyone is doing well!

I took NovelaMevan's advice from the other day and created an account.

NovelaMaven: Thank you for a very detailed recap. You touched on every scene...very impressive...I love your writing style and the sentence below was priceless.

Ginny looks right into the camera, that is, right at us on the Patio, her face
as hard as yesterday's bolillos.

For the first time yesterday, I really saw just how beautiful Nanciyaga is...her face is flawless, but I am not sure how I feel about her overall...her speaking in the third person really gets on my nerves (most of the time) and I think she should have told Martin that Virginia is the real Mala Mujer. The perception that she gives off, is that she is noble, speaks the truth at all times and love Martin, yet she kept silent for her own selfish reasons.

Can you be noble and selfish at the time? She knows guilt and doubts is eating Martin alive and driving him literally loco (crazy), because he felled in love with the woman whom he thinks is responsible for his brother committing suicide, so she should have told him...he was so desperate to have Nanci confirmed that it was not Vero that it broke my heart.

That being said, I do love the fact that she really gets under Virginia’s evil skin. Anything that annoys her makes my heart sing.

Just when I think I cannot hate Manuel and Virginia more that I already do,they prove me wrong. Calling them both sociopath does not even do it justice anymore; because I am not sure that the appropriate word(s) has yet been invented. They are like a flesh eating disease...parasites. Since Virginia like to profess all the time she has a heart condition, I really hope one day soon that she has heart attack...law of attraction.

I don’t know why, but I always get a kick out of Martin going loco with his celos (jealousy), especially when it is directed at Pierre, but last night I was laughing so hard when he went all crazy Marty when Alfredo told him to let Vero go and be happy with someone else. He was like "Are you crazy? NEVER!" It was hysterical to hear someone that is acting crazy asking someone else if he was crazy. At least, he’s consistent.

Was I the only one who thought that Martin looked absolutely sexxxxy last night when he was talking to Afredo? I might be bias, because he was dressed in black, and it is my favorite color.

@Kim and @NovelaMaven:

If I am not mistaken, I am pretty sure that in one of the earlier episodes that Salma stated that Virginia was the child of her cousin that passed away, which infers she is closer/treats Virginia better than Vero, because they are blood relatives.

I have a feeling there is more to the story (no spoiler, just my opinion and from watching televenovelas), because her obsession with Virginia is a little over the top.

Mucho gusto, Jolie. I think I'll quote you to my kids ("I took NovelaMaven's advice..."). At least somebody does. :D

Oh yes, Salma talked about a cousin, though I have a vague recollection that it was a cousin by marriage and not really a blood relative at all. Whichever it was, it sounded fishy to me. Stay tuned!

Ginny and Manny were certainly full of Spite and Malice last night. And I agree that Nanciyaga has shown herself to be only too human, allowing her jealousy to color her behavior and cause her to act in less than noble ways. In the end, though, I have a hunch she'll vindicate herself. And yeah, she really is gorgeous.

I'll have to take another look at the scene with Alfredo and let you know what I think. :-)

NovelaMaven I love this so much. Particularly like your Claudia character definition.

"There's something happening here. What it is ain't exactly clear..." Telling me I got to beware

"AND WHEN SHE ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THEY WERE LOVERS"

So stupid the Claudia and Virginia pissing contest, gawd

Joaquin could have done so much better than Raymunda, she is as crazy as her daddy and her nephew. I just hope she is not successful in poisoning Polo and Blanquita

Come on Magdalena some consistency please. You defend Veronica against the slut shaming from Raymunda, yet are complicit in Martins. I wouldn't want you as a friend and certainly not a parent.

NovelaMaven...loved the special "psychedelic" ...shades of LaughIn..what a treat to read your take on the happenings! Far out, dude! Groovy .

Wow..The Amazing Dr.Nancy has young Emi tripping in the jungle, wearing a special necklace, and loving nature. Will you see joven Emi hugging any trees tonight?

Gee? I never thought that Dr. F. Would not be in every girls top ten hottie list. In LA Malquerida, he played the soulful artist German , and the whole patio wanted to...sit at his table.

Aw, tofie, thanks so much. Glad you were able to sing along. :D

When it comes to Magdalena, I have to admit I find her a bit more interesting and sympathetic as a character than some people do. She's a product of her generation and a romantic at heart. She wants to believe in love and in men who protect their women, even if they sometimes go too far.

I suspect that over the course of the novela, we are going to see Magdalena's awakening (there's something hinky about Botel, don't you think? I'm sure he's hiding something from Magda and when it comes out, there will be hell to pay.) Until that happens, I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt.

Susanlynn,

Will we see joven Emi hugging trees tonight? I don't know. It may have been part of the program, but with Nanciyaga picking up the signals from Polo's bat cave, she may have to interrupt Emi's tutorial.

So everyone wanted to sit at Dr. F's table, huh? Too funny. (Actually, the Patio may still be anxious for a place at his table. Our moral standards aren't always that exacting, I've noticed.) You know, I love the way this Televisa repertory company of actors changes sides so readily. I've only seen the actor who plays Joaquín in the most villainous of roles, so it's a delightful surprise to see him as a bit of a hero here.

Always enjoy your use of language and that special NovelaMaven sense of humor. And yes!, by all means tell your kids that SOMEBODY took your advice. My students do. But my kids...never. Thank goodness for wise women like Jolie who listen...and do.

"Gentling his difficult wife". What a great turn of phrase. "Antediluvian Old Goat". For sure! "Pierre the Kindly Lecher". Love that description. And the prize goes to "Corrupt but Competent Cardiologist".

Ms. Virginia seems to have shifted gears. I had the impression she was genuinely enjoying her romps in the hay with the hunky doc at the beginning. But evidently love-making with a drunken, booze-belching Emiliano has ruined her for all other men. Hard to believe.

And I agree...the actress playing Naciyaga is lovely. She was a skank in La Que No Podia Amar, and a wholesome rival in Teresa. In this, her character is ambiguous.

Here in Columbus, Veronica definitely kneed Manual. And well-deserved it was.

Thanks again, Novela Maven. And I'm sure Pierre, the Kindly Lecher, thanks you as well.

Judyb.."Here in Columbus, Veronica definitely kneed Manuel." Ha I have missed your witty comments and your presence.

Novelamaven..the guy playing Botel played a very bad guy in La Bella on Telemundo. It is always interesting to see these actors in different roles.

Thanks for another stellar recap, NovelaMaven. You always manage to keep us involved in your cleverly worded conspiracy:

"Of course, we know that Nanciyaga has her hands full right now..."

"Actually, the Patio may still be anxious for a place at his table. Our moral standards aren't always that exacting, I've noticed."

As someone who generally thinks the tried and true old ways are usually the best ways, I'm anxiously waiting for our favorite ADHD pooch Onyx to Lassie-up and save the day by loping off to fetch help. I just hope that he doesn't get lost or distracted along the way.

After watching the goings-on between Nanciyaga and Emiliano, I think I may need to look into the benefits herbal teas a little more closely.

While there's not much doubt that Ginny is a bit spoiled, self-indulgent, and at times mean-spirited, I still don't see her as sociopathic. I'm eager for her to step up her game and become more proactive. My worst fear is that she'll throw in with the disgusting Manuel. She said that now she can't even stand the smell of Dr Dan... just imagine the odor that Manuel gives off... at best it's possibly Brut but more likely it's simply Olor de Manuel.

Carlos

A comment from JudyB is always a cause to celebrate. You are so generous to stop by with your reassuring words. Thank you! (I'm particularly glad the kneeing played in Columbus. I was starting to doubt myself.)

"...love-making with a drunken, booze-belching Emiliano has ruined her [Ginny] for all other men.,"
So could this be her anvil? Nah.

Actually, Dr. F was always just a means to an end for Ginny, but I agree that she seemed to be enjoying the game earlier in the novela.

Susanlynn, I kind of thought the Botel actor usually played bad guys, but a glance at his resume shows his versatility. Another person I'm impressed with is the guy who plays Medel (the barkeep). In other novelas, he has played all kinds of ugly. Here, he seems to be a bona fide good guy.

Thank you so much, Carlos!

"I'm anxiously waiting for our favorite ADHD pooch Onyx to Lassie-up and save the day by loping off to fetch help"

So funny! I certainly had Lassie, Timmy and the well present in my mind during this episode. (Hence the title.) (Will Onix save the day though – or will it be Nanciyaga?)

"just imagine the odor that Manuel gives off... at best it's possibly Brut but more likely it's simply Olor de Manuel."
HAHAHAHAHA! I'd really rather not imagine it at all. (Pierre didn't think much of it, and Pierre is my arbiter in all things esthetic.)

Thank you NovelaMaven and yes Ginny did look right at us on the patio. Carlos loved it and cheered, the gringo remained silent.

That scene with Vero and Manny went by so fast. At first I thought that Vero kneed him but then I thought that she used a head butt. Anyway, she broke free that's the most important thing.

The advances---Dr. F. threatens to expose Virginia. My bet is that Virginia will wiggle out of the threat buy whatever happens tonight it most certainly is must see tv.

the gringo

I missed the scene between Very and Manny, so in my mental image, she head butts him while kneeing him. Done and done. Scene. I am going with that scenario.

Well, gringo, even if the real world Ginny's often do get away with it, the ones in telenovelas almost never do. So let's comfort ourselves with the long view, shall we?

You're right – the most important thing is that your goddess broke free (and without any man coming to her rescue, I might add). As Susanlynn says, we can imagine a richly deserved one-two head butt/kneeing.

@carlos Virginia faked a heart condition, so she would not help look for a innocent child that is lost and was actually enjoying watching Manuel molest a woman...and you still do not think she is sociopathic...I think she is totally capable of murdering a pet that belongs to Vero and/or Nanci out of spite...classic sociopathic behavior.

@NovelaMaven I agree with your take on Magdalena...I think she sees Martin the way I do, a good person acting badly. I think she is empathetic towards him because he lost his brother and she has lost her daughter (we all know differently).

NovelaMaven, girl you did a fine job with this recap.
Tofie and carlos yall better not choke on that stuff yall drinkin, yall know ginny is a baaaaad girl headed for destruction. But yall just havin fun.
Raymunda-" how could I have been so wrong about manny", really Ray Ray? pull your head out of your new you know what and open your eyes, your nephew is a piece of crap.
I thought nanciaga & emi were going to do the deed again after the first dose of happy juice. But hes out for the night.
Marty, crazy craaaaaazy marty,"WHEN SHE CONFESSES THAT THEY ( HER AND DEMRITRIO) WERE LOVERS, then he can tell her why he married her. Wow marty you are a
piece of work. he wants her to confess to something that is based on a lie that he was told by a compulsive liar. why would he believe someone that he met at the same time that he met her(veronica) and believe them over someone he claims to love, even after he knows that shes a good hearted person? I don't know whose worse him or manual.
Marty in his blindness or manny in sheer stupidity.
Speaking of manny, well why are these people afraid of this nutjob, and why doesn't julio beat the crap out of him, he lets him push him around, I get hes a nice guy, but don't let that weasel push him around.
ITA NOVELA, magda and vero need to remove the blinders. Please somebody do something on this show.

Great recap, thank you!

The end of the Vero/Manuel scene was good, but the whole thing looked awkwardly choreographed. A couple of times Manuel turned away from Veronica to yell at Ana Perla and Julio and each time he totally let go of Veronica (and she could have easily escaped his clutches, since he wasn't "clutching" at the moment). I think the Director may have told him to keep his hands on her as he turned back to the others, but the actor either didn't hear him or didn't listen. Both times I saw Ana Brenda (the actress, not Veronica the character) reach for his hands to keep him on her ... it was weird. But at the end, when he was gripping her and forcing himself on her, she did, indeed, knee him in the groin. They didn't show all of his reaction, but from the aftermath, it seems that as he went down he was grabbing his "betweens" and couldn't break his fall so he hit his head on the cobbled street. He immediately touched his forehead and there was blood on his hand.

Thanks for the recap!

Julio lost some points with me when he let Manny molest Vero bec he feared losing his job if he stepped in.

I hate seeing a child in trouble. I hope poor Polo is found tonight.

Really interested to see what transformation takes place in the Emil character after all of Nanci's treatment(?).

Anonymous..."his betweens"..ha..never heard that one.

Hey Nina, thanks!

Nina and Carvivllie,
Even though Julio doesn't exactly need me to defend him, let me say that he was prepared to defend Ana Perla but he wasn't going to throw the first punch. Then when Manny distracted him and knocked him down, he was temporarily out of commission. He was just getting up to defend Vero when Vero showed she could defend herself (YAY!)

Anon, 2:59pm, you have now given us the definitive version of the Vero/Manuel scene. ¡Muchísimas gracias!

The Manuel caricature is ridiculous. Veronica, I betcha, is not the first woman he has attempted to rape or raped, yet everyone gives the guy a pass or looks the other way because of his granddad. Someone in those towns, a dad or brother would have killed both those fools. Now that is revenge worthy.

I still reject Martins premise for revenge in the first place. Even when he discovers Demetrios real squeeze, Virginia did not make him kill himself. She gave a condition for marriage including a due date. Demetrio was aware and he didn't deliver. Virginia didn't give him the booze, Virginia didn't buy him a gun and she didn't pull the trigger. She was just as surprised he took his own life, grief stricken because of it, no different than anyone else questioning why and I don't see her gloating giving herself a high-five.

@CARVILLE: I was thinking the same thing about Julio. The moment Manuel got aggressive, he should have punched him in the face. I can't stand Manuel and I hate that the writers always have him drinking/drunk as if that mitigates his disgusting behavior and rapist tendencies.

Susanlynn - re "betweens": That's what my (now grown) son used to say when he was little, "Oooh, he kicked him in his betweens!" LOL

Anon 2:59

Anonymous....out of the mouths of babes , right ? Precise and priceless!

Thank you for your great recap NovelaMaven! I loved it

I can't believe Martin still has doubts about Vero. Why would he believe Virginia and Emiliano over Veronica who is so much closer to him than the rest!! This guy has issues. He isn't thinking logically.

Well I agree Martin looked so hot in black. I liked as him and Alfredo say on the floor. I wonder if they will expand on Alfredo's character. I keep noticing his wedding ring. Wonder if they will show his wife.

I thought Emiliano will come in between Martin and Vero but it seems that isn't the case. I thought that would be a major storyline but Emi seems to have let Vero go. I love seeing Martin jealous, it is so amusing lol. Hope there are more opportunities for him to be jealous to punish him for the way he doubts Vero.

So now that Claudia is moving closer to Emi. Does that mean she has given up Martin. I hope so. She should leave Vero and Martin alone.

Thanks again for the recap.

Duchess, "I love seeing Martin jealous, it is so amusing lol. Hope there are more opportunities for him to be jealous to punish him for the way he doubts Vero" Me too!

Virginia may not have pulled the trigger, but she was definitely the stressor that pushed Demetrio to take his life.

She is a manipulator (wolf in sheep clothing) that manipulates everyone in her life. She manipulated a total stranger (Martin) to go crazy and act completely of character (from what we know about his past based on his devotion to his brother) , so I can only imagine how she manipulated Demetrio (we only see Virginia’s perspective of the relationship when she is remembering him). She just kept pushing and pushing him with her "my uncle will not let me marry someone that is not rich" and after he sacrificed everything for her, she sucker punched him with a Dear John letter.

The scene yesterday with her and Manuel was so disgusting. She was actually telling Manuel that his rapist tendencies are totally acceptable, because Vero provoked him and Vero has a reputation with men, so that means she is just begging to get rape.

I am waiting with bated breath for her to get what is coming to her. I hope it is worse than what Kendra got in Amores Verdaderos.

Wow ... Virginia is bad, but I don't think she deserves worse than to be eaten alive by wolves! LOL, Jolie :-)

@Anon 4:54pm LOL :-)

If I know anything about Telenovelas...the villain only gets worse with time, so you are probably going to have a change of heart. LOL

Thank you, Duchess!

"So now that Claudia is moving closer to Emi. Does that mean she has given up Martin. I hope so."

Oh, I wouldn't count on it. For one thing, Claudia seems to like to keep a Plan B (and Plan C, D, and n) ready at all times. For another, Vero and Marty haven't exactly mended fences. Marty's plain, clear rejection of Claudia may have put a slight damper on her plans, but she seems amazingly resilient with a very inflated opinion of her charms. All in all, I don't see Claudia giving up on Marty any time soon.

tofie,
Your excellent argument handily demolishes the premise for Martin's revenge in any rational universe. Many, if not most, people in Marty's situation would feel angry and resentful towards the woman who had treated their loved one so shabbily. But Virginia is no more responsible for Demetrio's suicide than Vero is for Polo's running away even though Raymunda blames her for triggering a chain of events that has turned their suffocating little world upside down.

And yet this is not exactly a rational universe. It's a place of exaggeration and overblown sentiments in which characters act out what normal people may entertain as passing fancies or dark, but fleeting, impulses. There are things in this universe that don't make sense logically yet have a kind of emotional or poetic truth to them, at least for me.

hopefully the writers will let Veronica and Magdalena discover each other soon. Maybe
they'll start talking about their memories and they'll start hearing each other talk and something will click, we can only hope.
