La Sombra del Pasado #109 (Mx 110) - Mon 7/20 - Santa Lucia Status Updates

Flunky
Javier? The new flunky is dispatched to Simoneta's place to clean it out.  Why Sev didn't call those nice movers who helped him load the coffin table into the bed of his truck is beyond me.  Flunky pockets some jewelry while he's there.

Flavia
She really can't stand being cooped up in the hospital, so Gonzalo offers to let her stay at his house until he thinks she's ready to be around large groups of people and/or travel again.  Flavia would like Ray to come visit her at Gonzalo's, but that's going to depend on her test results.

Lulu
Lulu gives her stamp of approval to Tomas' new ride.  Chicks dig motorcycles, according to her.

Lola
Makes plans to go with Melesio to San Miguel and stop by her mom's place while they're there.

Mari
Still has a job, but is getting lectured about making sure she conveys messages and doesn't leave her desk for no reason in the middle of the day.

Emmanuel/Vero
Em is still locked up. Vero visits him.  He admits he's thinking about Lola, but no, she hasn't seen him.  Vero worries about Don Ant who seems a little down since they got here and seems to have some kind of history with Sev.

Don Ant
Goes to warn Sev that he's looking out for Emmanuel.  And punches him out while he's there.  The backstory remains a mystery.

Cris + Aldonza
Cris takes Lola's advice to just kidnap Aldonza and take her far, far, away from the madness.  According to Lola, chicks dig being kidnapped.  According to me, no one on the production team has a clue what chicks dig.  Cris goes galloping up to El Santuario, scoops up Aldonza, and heads for the literal hills, where Renato's SUV can't follow.  Aldonza spends the day giving Cris very compelling arguments about why they can't be together, while grinning in delight every time she turns her back on him.  A sudden storm reminds Cris of that one time when the fields were burning and they snogged by the waterfall.  He finds some kind of structure, complete with a big metal gate, where they can wait out the storm.  Aldonza chooses this moment  (grinning aside) to try to take off on a horse that won't listen to her.  She ends up falling off the horse, apparently unconscious.  As Cris carries her, she gives us yet another big grin.

Padre J
Everybody comes running to him after Aldonza's kidnapping.  He thinks it's funny and it's not like Cris is going to hurt her.  Renato thinks it's kidnapping and is pissed the cops won't go look for Aldonza.   In the midst of all the waiting for news, Adelina tells him about Aldonza and Renato catching Gonzalo and Roberta together in the DF apartment.  Humberto goes to Padre J, annoyed that since Aldonza doesn't have her medications with her, she's running the risk of infection.  Padre J tells Humberto if he's really that worried about Aldonza, maybe he ought to sign the land over to her.  Or tell her about Emmanuel being her half-brother.

Cande
Is so pissed off that she says, in front of Det. Incompetente (who despite Renato's complaint, does seem to be looking for Aldonza), that Cris knows better than to bring her to Las Animas 'cause Cande would kill her.  She thinks this is all Sev's fault for sleeping with Roberta.

Val
Val admits to Pru that she has no intention whatsoever of aborting Babylardo, she just said that to get Cande off her back.  She's mistakenly sure now that Cris is coming back to her.  She agrees not to abort the baby in exchange for Humberto signing over El Santuario once the baby is born.  When she finds out that Cris ran off with Aldonza, she throws a fit, breaks a glass in the Mendozas' living room, and starts having severe pains.  She manages to get everyone out of the guest room when the doctor arrives to check her out and he tells her that she's going to have to be honest with him about just how pregnant she is, if she expects him to do a decent job treating her.  We don't hear her answer before the end of the episode.

Kat..I have not read the recap yet, but I had to jump right in and agree with your comment. Kudos to Pablo for hoisting Michelle..or somebody for hoisting somebody up on that horse, and to Michelle or somebody for riding backwards in a very uncomfy position. And..what was up with the little covert smiles in the midst of all the angst and darkness this novela has become ?

Hmm..what is the cleanup guy going to find in Sim's place???

Aldonza, the character, annoyed me to no end with her game-playing and those irritating smiles.

Michelle, the actress, impressed me with how well she handled being on the horse for what I assume was at least a few days of filming.

This is great Kat. Thanks bunches and like how you organized.

"coffin table"
"Babylardo"

What the heck, so the writer that pens Lola's character got Aldonza duty now? Aldonza is all about being adored and chased, only thing that really pissed her off was she got her hair wet.

Thank you, tofie! I don't remember whose work "coffin table" was, but I don't think it was me. I will absolutely take credit for Babylardo, though :D

Maybe somebody lost a bet? Owed someone a favor? A deadline was looming? I don't get it.

It was just bizarre, the whole thing. I was wondering why Cris told her it was Lola's idea if he was actually trying to impress.

Now we got Renato wanting to pitch Cris in jail for kidnapping his own wife.

Don Antonio's punch was awesome though

susanlynn, and I'm thinking, if she really had just been shot a few days ago, even if she's out of the sling, WOW that's gotta hurt! What a terrible idea!

There was such a disconnect with the arguing and the smiling. She was being very sincere and making very coherent arguments. The smiling didn't fit.

Thank you, Diva, for the recap. Short and to the point, just like I like them. :-)

I agree, Aldonza smirking behind Cris's back was irritating. I wish he had really left her to walk home. UGH! Middle school games are for middle school kids, people!

tofie, right? 'Cause nothing impresses a girl more than telling her that this was all her BFF's idea.

Oh, Don Antonio's punch was the highlight of the evening. I don't even care why he did it. Well, ok, eventually I would like to know the story, but just the punch was enough to whet my appetite for venganza!

Renato makes a good point about this being kidnapping, but it's not going to stick if Aldonza doesn't want it to. And he knows she won't press charges. We all know it.

Thank you, Anon, maybe middle-schoolers are the "chicks" who were polled to determine that "kidnapping = yay!" No, scratch that...I give even middle-schoolers more credit than that.

Thanks, Kat. I liked the organization by character.

well..I wanted Cris to do something , and be did something. Are the two going to do the deed in the mountain retreat ? Al was looking pretty frisky and carefree considering all the abuse and crap she has endured throughout this whole novela...slapped, raped, stoned (literally), shot, licked, etc. Suddenly a complete turn around, she is acting like she's in seventgh grade flirting with the new kid on the block. Que?

It seems as though nasty Flavia is getting a tb anvil followed by a reward of a doctor. Not right.

Ok, I really thought I had more bitterness and snark to unleash, but I think I'm too excited about us being in Ultimas Semanas, so mostly what I've got is "Seriously, dude?"

Thank you, susanlynn! "I wanted Cris to do something!" Yes! Did this have to be the thing? He couldn't have gone with "Valeria, I demand to go with you to the baby doctor to discuss a DNA test"?

I think they're pushing Flavia and Gonzalo together, too. Is he her reward or is she his anvil? I can't figure that out.

I used coffee table\coffin ,but Kat refined it to coffin table. Collaboration is good . I liked "Babylardo" which could be Blardo if we are in a hurry.

Loved the punch. Go Don Ant. It is fun to see this actor in a good guy role after his dreadful limb losing villain in Pasion. I saw him as a good guy who was married to the actress playing Dom, but I cannot recall the tn title. They were pobres and had three sons..I think.

I loved seeing Vile go all BSC in front of tio and tia. Yikes ...Is she going to lose Blardo and her last chance to snare the bank account of her dreams..Cris ? Chicks hate that.

Oh wow, Kat, thanks so much. I didn't watch last night, just getting back from a busy weekend and I'm not even tempted to jump in and give a quick view before tonight's.

I would like to see the Don a left ( or was it right) hook, but having to watch through all the schlock with the "kidnapping" would just give me a headache. And what you said about "chicks like it". Yeah, maybe at 16! Of course, we've been saying most of the antics by these young women smack more of high school, so maybe that's our answer. Their consultant on all-things female for this TN must be someone's teenage daughter.

So do we think that suddenly they are hinting that all will be right with Allie and those two will finally hook up in this cabin in the sky? Because if they do that just days after her horrid nightmare, boy I have a hard time with that outcome.

And I don't even want to think of Flavia and the doctor. I haven't been able to figure out that woman's appeal to anyone through this whole show.

Daisynjay

Susanlynn, chicks totally hate that! I just love how Aldonza has basically done nothing and Cande loses her sh-cool over her, but Val is wrecking the place and she's still the perfect daughter-in-law. If she loses that baby, that means no Cris and no alliance with Sev.

I'm upgrading Don Antonio to "Definitely Not Evil." I know, it took me forever, but now I'm convinced.

Kat..The answer to your question about Gonzo, Flavia, rewards, and anvils is...yes, I think so. I wish that she would wash the Brillcream out of her greasy hair and comb it. I would even settle for a ponytail like Mari's.

Kat, short and spectacular. You captured all the action perfectly with the right amount of snark. "According to me, no one on the production team has a clue what chicks dig" made me smile - simply stellar.

“Padre J tells Humberto if he's really that worried about Aldonza, maybe he ought to sign the land over to her. Or tell her about Emmanuel being her half-brother”. How could anyone NOT love the Padre??

I thought the "abduction" was rather romantic. Sorry, but I smiled at Aldonza's grins - she was clearly in her element and it was nice to see actually enjoying herself. I don't think I would have minded the ride in the position she was in if I were with the love of my life.

I was totally confused by Flavia with the doctor. Now Roberta was beautiful, loving (among many things) and he was disgusted by her. Now here comes cheating, lying Flavia and NOW he's intrigued. Totally agree with your "think they're pushing Flavia and Gonzalo together, too. Is he her reward or is she his anvil?" susanlynn, I don't think he is any prize so she can have him. They deserve each other.

I admit I was very disappointed Sev laughed at Don Ant. I was hoping he would cower and bow before him (not really, but you get my drift). Loved the punch too tofie, although I wish it had knocked Sev out. It appears Sev is afraid of no one, well not among the living anyway...

I hope Val's baby comes through this. I hope Uriel and Irma get to raise the child - it would be nice if they got to raise at least 1 child that didn't turn out to be a monster...

Hoping the Padre's transfer papers get lost indefinitely. The parishoners would be lost without him. As would we.

Diana

Thank you Diva for the to the point recap. Right on -- on every character. I agree with several of you, Aldonza is getting very annoying. All the mad and glad business is ridiculous.

Am waiting to see what Ant has on Sev. I am sure he(Ant)is not going to go quietly into the good night. And I am on his side, as he is the only one who will stand up for Eman if nothing else.

Too tired for much time on the patio today, but good seeing the peeps this morning over coffee.

Thank you, Daisynjay! "I haven't been able to figure out that woman's appeal to anyone through this whole show." I was thinking to myself that Adriano was certainly no prize either, and the two of them deserved each other, when it hit me--Adriano's not dead yet! And Gonzalo has always been kind to women in general (other than cheating on his wife) so maybe I'm reading too much into his attitude. I'd be cool with Adriano recovering so he can spill the beans about Sev and take Flavia back.

susanlynn, I blame the stylists. You can't just put the gel in, you've gotta scrunch out the crunch when it dries. They're committing crimes against curls!

Thank you, Diana! I don't remember Gonzalo having a problem with Roberta. He's the one who insisted on getting her treatment. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they conveniently drop the "Padre J's transfer" plotline with no explanations.

Thank you, emeraldrose! Nice to see you, too :D Don Ant looks like he's been saving up some anger towards Sev for quite a while now...this oughtta be good!

Gracias, Kat!!

I have to point out the "According to me, no one on the production team has a clue what chicks dig." line too.

I was cool with most of Michelle's grins last night, but the last one seemed almost sinister. I could totally see her as a baddie now. Has that already been said?

The patio is correct, there does seem to be a Flavia/Gonzalo vibe going. Blech.

"...considering all the abuse and crap she has endured throughout this whole novela...slapped, raped, stoned (literally), shot, licked, etc. Suddenly a complete turn around, she is acting like she's in seventgh grade flirting with the new kid on the block. Que?"

Wow. It didn't even occur to me last night. When you put it that way Susanlynn it really does make Aldonza's actions weirder and out of character.

Love short, succinct recaps since I have an equally short attention span. But loved the snark--"According to Lola, chics dig being kidnapped. According to me, no one on the production team has a clue what chics did." Well said.

And "Det. Incompetente" and "Babylardo" were also..just... delicious!(Hmmm...thinking I need a snack.)

Well, the galloping black horse kidnapping was juicy Harlequin Romance for sure. And I guess we were supposed to think Aldonza enjoyed it, thanks to those stupid grins. But like everyone else, I found it really annoying. And being yanked up on a horse and jounced around could not possibly feel good to someone who was recently shot somewhere in the chest/shoulder region.

Weird episode. But loved Padre's nonchalance contrasting with Adelina's virginal outrage. And I guess the despicable Flavia is slated for a happy ending, no? A future with the doc and a nice stepfather for Ray? Maybe that's necessary for Adelina to finally unbend and give poor, patient whazzizname a chance.

Whoops...that was supposed to be "dig". But they probably have no idea what the chics DID either.

Thank you, Sara! I just don't know what they're getting at...she doesn't want him to know that she is enjoying being hauled up onto a horse and riding off into a forest? To what end? Why is this a fun game? I just think there are enough lies and enough deceptions floating around...isn't anyone going to be honest in their relationships?! Or do chicks not dig that? :p

Thank you JudyB! That was an excellent typo :D I don't think they have a clue.

I think you're right about the Flavia/Joaquin/Adelina triangle. Adelina didn't have a problem dating him when Flavia was off with Adriano, but the minute she came back and said she wanted another chance, Adelina was totally done with him. Nobody bothered to listen to what Joaquin wants!

Diva - Thank you for the recap! Looks like Mrs. Martinez's eighth grade class wrote this episode.
I just love Babylardo™!

Thank you, doris! I was expecting to see some flying sharks, it was that bad...no money in the budget, perhaps?

Oooh, Diva, that reminds me.... Sharknado 3 tomorrow night! ;-)

Be still my heart, JudyB has stopped by to visit. I don't believe I've "seen" you since DQTQTQ. How nice to see you again!

doris: I am getting quite a giggle over Mrs. Martinez's eighth grade class. (And I still love that avatar! It just never gets old. I am going to go stare at it a little more and smile.)

well, maybe the writers or Al were listening to some solid gold and heard Cindy say that "girls just want to have fu-un-unnnn."And , well, who does not like having fun? ...although definitions of fun do vary. Case in point...that dynamic duo Sev the DEv and buzzkill Candy.

In Cande's case, it's more like ghouls just want to have fun.

(wah, wah, wah)

Thank you folks, I'll be here all week. Don't forget to tip your server.

I think that I might finally try to get myself an avatar since the whole tattoo thing fell through and I currently have two minutes to rub together...and I am tired of washing windows. I need to up my fun factor. I need to find a tutorial as I am severely tech challenged.

I think that these writers read about the female gaze thing and are trying their level best to figure out exactly what chicks actually dig. Keep trying that.

Hi all!

Diva- excellent. How do you manage to keep it so enjoyable, yet so succinct? You are my recapping idol.

I'm with Diana on this one. Even while I was shaking my head, I was smiling. I get the thought behind it - it's the bodice ripper moment moment when the handsome highland knight says "to h*** with it!" and kidnaps his secret bonnie bride from her diapproving clansmen...kinda. Or the West Side Story song when Tony and Maria sing about running off together to somewhere no one can find them. Just, in this case, there was no mutual agreement on that. Whatevs, I'm just happy to get a lighter tone.

That being said, here were my problems with it:

1) It wasn't Cris' idea, which led me to wonder: if she hates it, as she claims, it's another example of him not knowing his wife at all. If she loves it, as evidenced by her smirks, it was an example of him being original and...
2)...it is dangerous, given her injury. He just got out of the hospital not long ago, doesn't he remember all that he had to do to get better?
3) It made no sense to me that he could ride up on a huge horse, reach down and haul her up with one arm if she was unwilling, without dragging her along for a while. It would've made more sense if he had met her on her way home/asked her for a moment alone/even gotten her to hug him from the horse. It should made no sense to me from a directional/logistical(?) standpoint.
4) ITA with the Aldonza smirking. I get that they're trying to show that even if she's giving lip service to the "moving on" of it all, she still loves Cris and is secretly delighted by this impulsive act of lunacy. But it still rings like she's playing him. I'd rather she started off genuinely pissed, and then came around in spite of herself.
5) I think this whole thing would've read better if Cris had spirited her away to the woods to finally TALK THIS OUT. Instead of shaking my head and rolling my eyes with affectionate resignation the whole eppy, I could've started nodding along with him if he had confronted her. He needs to point out that for all she says she's tired of fighting, she hasn't done more than turn tail and run at the first sign of trouble. He should've said they need to talk and he's tired of waiting for her to figure that out. He should've said that he had a plan, or at least of vision, for their life together and had thought about how to deal with THE BABY he might be having with his ex. Sigh.

And now that I've talking myself out of liking it, can I just say it was really weird that Cris said DF was "their" place. Um...yeah, no, not so much. If anything, it's Ren's territory.

Hellashelle...sigh...you had me at highland knight..yes, please.

...the "dragging her along for a while" probably would have not been very romantic.

sorry, meant "it's an example of him being UNoriginal..." "it JUST made no sense..."

Also, SO unexcited about the prospect of Flavia and Dr. G. She lies and cheats and it a huge hypocrite and had sourface all the d*** time and she gets to ride of into the sunset with a rich doctor? I'm not down with that plan.

Loved the right hook! Go Don Antonio!
Go Eman for fessing up to that fact that he's still got Lola on his mind!
Go Ren for actually thinking like a lawyer! (If Cris were an abusive husband, Aldonza would be in real trouble, so I appreciate the fact that he's bringing that up, even thought he knows that's the the sitch here)

Susanlynn - lol, yeah the dragging her along part probably would've killed the mood a bit.

I confess, that I am a sucker for the sweeping her onto your horse and riding away motif...in a romantic historical fiction novel*. It just seemed so odd here.

...the dragging her along part probably would've killed the mood a bit. And possibly the object of his affection. (I am making popcorn. Hellashelle and susanlynn are like a comedy duo.

*And believe me, my inner feminist is screaming at me right now.

hellashelle - ITA with you about Flav not deserving a rich doc toe after all she has been and done. But then, that might be docs punishment for cheating with Roberta.

doctor ... Not doc toe as my tablet insisted. AUTO CORRECT IS. MY. ENEMA,

Aye, lassie...I am just past the middle of The second Outlander book. Oh. My. Goodness. The hero definitely knows what chicks dig....or maybe just me.

Susanlynn, basically, you need an account of some type (they've got all the options listed down under the comment box), and then look for something about a profile picture and upload one you like. (That's probably kind of vague, but I can attempt something more specific once you're past the "account" part.)

Thank you, HellaShelle! I am with you on all the problems you listed. As for the Harlequin-ness of the situation...

It's always a highlander, isn't it?! But I think Mrs. Martinez's class was just skimming those manuals in the art of bodice-ripping and missed the vital detail that the couple is running off together or he's saving her from being married to some total troll or she really secretly wants to run off with Lord Kiltwearer of the Highland Lochs in the first place. Details, kids, details!

I think the grinning stuff is because the writers believe we are stupid and must be spoon fed or Michelle is incapable of showing righteous indignation in mid swoon.

Kilt = what happened to the last guy who called it a "skirt."

tofie, I don't think it's all that hard to do the "Ugh! I'm so pissed at you...stop being so cute!" thing. Way better than looking like some kind of Mr/Mrs Potatohead, switching facial features entirely!

Oh, which would mean they're doing this on our behalf. Well, phooey!

Hey 5ft. You know I love your work, and this was no exception.

Gee, that horse ride was the closest thing to sex we've had in this whole story, and the horse was doing all the work.

To me, this was a light episode, what with Don C and PJ grinning, Val going ballistic about Cris right after she had told Sev that she and Cris might be getting back together.

I've got a pair of 4 year old terrorists here, so got to run, but thanks again 5ft for putting this up.

David

Thank you, David! The equine actors are really bringing it on this show. Enjoy the grands :D They've gotta be easier to deal with than Val!

David...so true..and the horse definitely was doing all the work.Good luck with those twins...now there is some Ac-TION.

Wake up , Cris, we..I mean Al.. needs a hero.Time to do some of the heavy lifting. Activate your galan-ness.

Now I've got that song from Footloose stuck in my head :D

OK, wait, did she, like fall off the horse so he could carry her inside and she now has an excuse to say "OK. I forgive you."? 'Cause boy what a looooong way to go for that!

Thank you 5Ft, the bullet points was all this needed to do it justice. What an idiotic episode. That grinning in between running away was infuriating and not cute. And Renato's reaction was also moronic. I was so glad that PJ didn't take any of it seriously and just laughed about it.

I was hoping for a miscarriage, maybe in the near future. But Val is starting to get unhinged, I'm thinking that she's going to end up in the manicomio now.

Thank you, cathyx! Val has zero "keeping it together" skills. And she has the audacity to nag Pru!

..so, is that a table for two at the manicomio?

I would feel sorry for the manicomio employees.

Let me see if I have tomorrow's show figured out. They will need to stay the night where ever they are and strip naked because their clothes are wet so they can dry by the fire. Then they have to snuggle under the blanket together to stay warm and get some sleep. But one thing leads to another and Aldonza gets over her problem of sexual intimacy.

Well, either that or she ends up with a fever. Because, rain.

So, it's fever or fever....

My money is on a fever....like 104F because that is the only plot device left that has not been trotted out.

We also haven't had amnesia...

Oh, please let that not be what the final smile was about!

I wonder if Padre J knows what/where that place is. From growing up near there.

Ok. But we all agree on the naked by the fire thing, right?

No question. I mean, if it was me, soaked from the rain, wandering into an abandoned cabin, the roof would probably be half caved-in and I wouldn't find so much as a bag of stale Cheetos. Cris and Aldonza will have clean blankets, dry firewood, and a complimentary fruit basket. It's in the rules.

Hey, agreed..neekid by the fire...providing there is a fireplace..and one of them knows how to start a fire...and whoever starts the fire uses the fireplace . Then, it's a go...bunny hopping..followed by fever... followed by "Who are you? ".." Who am I?".Does anyone remember these lines in Alborado which Hippolita said while wearing a really huge bandage on her head.

Kat....Rose petals...don't forget the roses petals ...and the dusty, forgotten magnum of champaign.

Judy, you brought some dazzling lines that included "But loved Padre's nonchalance contrasting with Adelina's virginal outrage" and "Maybe that's necessary for Adelina to finally unbend and give poor, patient whazzizname a chance."

Joining Sara in a rousing chorus of thrilled to see your comments again...

Diana

I'm hoping this is some place Cris rented and it's fully stocked, 'cause I'm suddenly not all that confident in his fire-building skills.

Diva, I loved your recap--each paragraph crafted so nicely to sum up the action for each character. Still chuckling over "Babylardo"...Thanks so much!

Susanlynn--ITA about Flavia's scraggy hair! Ecchh! And when Renato's papa invited her home and told her "hablame de 'tu'", I groaned in disbelief. Nooooo!!!

By the way, what happened to Ald's urgent plans to exhume her father's remains? Wasn't that on the fast track?

Oh---if there isn't a Don Antonio table yet...I'd like to be a founding member.
:o)

J in Oregon

Thank you, J in O! I was under the impression the exhumation was already approved by all the proper people/agencies and was going to happen any second now and then somebody saw something shiny and wandered off.

Thank You La Diva for a rather funny interesting recap.
I grinned everytime Aldonza did she is having so much fun with the man she loves. they are so cute when they're together, she needs to get over herself and stay with her husband. besides this is one baby I hope valvile loses.
I'm not saying miscarriages are good, but that child deserves better. lardo need to take his baby.
It was good seeing sev get punched, they should bring more people out of his sordid past punch him.
oh there will be a fire, It has to be romantic.

Thank you, Nina! Glad you enjoyed it.

Gracias.

Sorry this took so long but with my computer issues the past two days I just caught up with this episode.

The look on Gonzalo's face at the end could be that Flavia might be sicker than he wants to tell her. Treatment for TB is limited and involves quarantine, so she won't be seeing little Ray anytime soon.

Thank you, Urban Anthropologist! I'm so sorry about your computer issues. I know it's a pain in the butt :( I got the impression Gonzalo was telling Flavia what he thought she wanted to hear to keep her calm.

Kat- I'm VERY late to the party. Thank you so much for the quick recap.

Like the rest of you, I was very happy to see Tono punch Sever. More please.

I'm glad Cris and Al are having some moments away from the crazy, and found my reaction to be similar to the Padre's-- roll of the eyes, a smile, and a "those crazy kids". Nothing for all these folks to be working themselves up over. Take a chill pill, Val, Adelina, Renato, and Cande.

Seems that folks were unhappy when it seemed that Flavia was going to kick the bucket, and now upset that she might live and hook up with Doc Gonzalo. I don't care one way or the other, but for Ray's sake I prefer she live.

Thank you, Vivi! Flavia is a problem. Alive, dead, married, divorced. I don't really know what I want to happen with her, but I agree with you that I don't want Ray to be unhappy.

Just seeing an earlier comment. Doc Gonzalo was never disgusted by Roberta. She was a paid companion and he did have some macho ideas about "women like her". But that was quickly put aside when he began to treat her as a patient, learned she had a daughter, and got to know her as a person. His dealings with her were mostly caring and compassionate. Flavia is not a high price hooker, like Roberta, so there isn't a comparison. She was a housewife, who made the mistake he did-- took a walk on the wild side and cheated on her spouse. He sees the similarities in their circumstances.
