Here's your page for the week, my friends.  Enjoy!

Comments:
Nina looked gorgeous, but her vendetta against carmina is getting tiring. Cayetana is now so dumb i hardly recognize her.where'd her backbone go? I cant wait til caye realizes what a poco hombre leonardo es!

Does anyone know for sure which novela Bajo el mismo cielo will replace? Both Tierra and El Señor are now indicating that they are coming to an end.

TELEMUNDO...

"Tierra de reyes", gran final, Monday, 27 July.

"Bajo el mismo cielo" begins Tuesday, the 28th

(there are promos out for each, I'm guessing the time slots are the same).

"El Señor de los Cielos 3" is in etapa culminante, so it has some more to go, to be ?? followed by "Señora Acero 2", which I believe is in production in Mexico, to be later followed by "La querida del Centauro".

of course real life Sinaloa cartel chief Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman escaping through a mile long tunnel from his shower in a maximun security prison in Mexico, is better than the novelas.

Tierra. Touching reunion of Jose Antonio with sons and then Soledad. I know my heartstrings were tugged! Wait till he finds out he has a second daughter! Lt. Cabrera was right: "Parece una película". (It seems like a movie, or in this case a telenovela :)). Leonardo having sex with the barfly in the basement and being confronted by Sofi was appropriately yucky, but one slight problem. Most East Texas houses don't have basements; the water table is too high. A terrible problem when there's a tornado and for that reason a lot of modern houses there have a tornado safe room. Now Matilde has definitely gone too far--trying to throw away the general's uniform and threatening to tell Caye that he had threatened to hit her--when in fact the opposite was true. And Nicholson and Malkovich were a day too late for poor Julia. Tease for tonight's episode of Sofi killing Leo--but I expect that what will happen is that he'll just pick himself up from the bottom of the staircase and say something creepy and insulting--confinement to a wheelchair might be good, though.

Tierra. Oh, and once more Isadora makes a miraculous escape after shhoting Cabrera in the arm!

Tierra. Has anyone else noticed Leonardo's almost satyr-like capacity to have sex with infinite numbers of women at any hour of the day and night (barfly in the wee hours of the night, Caye early the next morning--and that's a mild example)? Come to think of it, he looks a little like a satyr. If he took off his shoes do your think there would be cloven hooves?

Tierra. Cayetana. Arturo has Caye's number. She's a person who can never admit she's wrong. Pati's efforts to ingratiate herself with Cayetana at the party--hilarious! Expression of aristocratic disdain on Caye's face--priceless!

Bajo El Mismo Cielo is definitely replacing Tierra in the 9:00 pm time slot.

Muchas gracias, deb and anonymous, for confirming that Bajo will replace Tierra.

Tierra. I can't believe that the elevator in which Fernández and Cayetana are trapped doesn't have a working alarm button! Also, given Matilde's and Eleazar's past performance in their false accusations against Samuel in Beatriz's death, that the authorities will take them at all seriously in their claims to have witnessed Sofi's pushing Leonardo down the stairs.

Will someone please explain a couple of things to me. Somehow I got the impression
that Alma and Veronica were twins who were separated at birth. Also, It seemed to me that
Jose Antonio really loved his wife. How did the affair with Sole come about? An answer
would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I'm still loving this novela and enjoying the recaps and comments.

Something more has to happen to Leo. Falling down the stairs and maybe breaking his
neck wasn't nearly enough to quench my thirst for revenge. AnonGringa

Tierra. Anon Gringa: Years earlier, when Soledad was 18 and working for the Gallardo family, she fell in love with José Antonio, who was about to leave his family for her. José Antonio's wife appealed to her decency so that the Gallardo boys would not be left without a father, and Sole "disappeared," undergoing the hardships of having to give up Veronica for adoption and work for Cayetana. After Sole was out of the picture, José Antonio and his wife reconciled, their relationship grew stronger than ever, and JA's wife gave birth to Alma, who just happened to look exactly like Verónica. (I personally think that there should be some old framed photograph of José Antonio's mother, who would look exactly like both of them, which would explain the similarity.) Right now, the important thing about Leo is that Sofi not be charged with assault, or, worst case scenario, manslaughter. Given his past record of spousal rape, and given the unreliability of Matilde and Eleazar as "witnesses," who barely escaped prison for similar machinations at Beatriz's, let's hope that doesn't happen.

TELEMUNDO

wow, deb, thanks so much!

CELIA sounds like something I'd love to see. I hope it becomes reality.

A remake of Doña Barbara? Well we know Aracely is a power to be reckoned with, but Edith González was SO good and that version was such a knock-out, so...

Anyhow, lots of interesting stuff in the pipeline!

SpanProf, I came on here for the same reason. But I was going to ask how many times a day he itches. He had sex in the basement with the girl from the party, Cayetana the next morning and then Isadora later on that day. The booty count for him since this novela started is seven: He drugged Sofia to have sex with her, he's been with Isadora, Candela, the two hookers the night before he got married, the girl in the basement and Cayetana. Speaking of which, I think she needs to get to a clinic and see if he gave her anything because he doesn't strike me as the type who would practice safe sex. Not as sleazy as he is. Plus, with the way he gets around he would need to carry a whole box of condoms around with him. Something Cayetana would notice.

Tierra- SpanProf

Thank you SO much. Now everything's a lot clearer.

Matilde is one of the most offensive characters that I've seen in a novela yet. It makes me nuts to see
the servants abusing the family members.

I'll really miss these people when the show's over. After not being particularly impressed with Aaron
Diaz in the first novelas that I saw him in, he's really grown on me. I'd like to see my other favorite,
Don Felipe, get up and walk again to save someone. As has been said, " Anything is possible in a
novela." AnonGringa

Tierra. Britishcomedyfan. :) I can't believe you've been keeping count! Totally agree with everything you say about Leo. :)

TIERRA

SpanProf. I thought about it the other day when Ulisses brought in that girl for Leo to take to the V.I.P. room. Wait, that makes the booty count eight then. I forgot about her. :)

Also, glad to see Arturo doing more smiling than scowling. He has a gorgeous smile and should definitely do it more often.

Tierra. AnonGringa. Despite the occasional plot lapse due to sloppy writing, I'll miss these characters too! Most of them are very simpáticos, and even the villains are ever-entertaining!

TIERRA

Oh, and I agree that Matilde is waaaay overstepping her bounds. She won't listen to the girls or grandpa about anything. I wondered if she was doing that to Don Felipe to force him to leave the house?

Tierra. Also, Bajo looks infinitely more worthy, but not nearly as much fun. As I said before, the kind of serious, issue-focused series I may occasionally assign my students to watch.

Deb, thanks very much for all the added info about future Telemundo novelas. I'm glad to know I'll be able to stay with Telemundo.

Tierra. I have to say it was satisfying to see Isadora holding that knife to Cayetana's throat. :)

Tierra. And I hope something stops Irina from drinking that poisoned tea Matilde prepared. M. want to make Irina very sick, but more important, kill her unborn child. How creepy is that?

Tierra. It looks as if Leonardo is not going to have any lasting damage from his fall. Sigh! I'm glad to see Arturo confronting him about his attempted rape of Sofi; hope it doesn't endanger his own life, though. Has anyone noticed how easy it is for women to fight off Leonardo, despite his being a young, strong man, as the doctor says?

Tierra

SpanProf thanks for summing up the plot so far this week - seriously your comments are as good as recaps - I've had work stuff and been missing a bunch this week and you caught me right up

deb thanks for the upcoming tn news

Tierra

I too am hoping Irina doesn't drink the tea - or if she does she'll get sick and throw it up right away

Also for those keeping track of the notches on Leo's bedposts, when he was still married to Sophia he was sleeping with a stripper who looked like her and I don't think it was Cande

TELEMUNDO... "Celia"

this is being produced by Fox Telecolombia, scheduled to premiere this fall.

starring Jeimy Osorio (with an afro hairdo in "Santa Diabla") and Modesto Lacén, and a full cast already named.

CELIA

Thanks again, deb! That video has me sold. I can't wait for it to air. (I wonder how they will handle the music – will they have the rights to Celia's own voice? I was skeptical about dubbing in singing until I saw how superbly it was done in La Hija del Mariachi. I mean, I assume the actress won't be singing, but I suppose she could be...)

Tierra. Thanks, Sneaky! I see myself as the Caray Caray TvFanatic or CarterMatt. And thank goodness, thanks to don Felipe and his complaints about Matilde's confiscating his books, Irina didn't drink the tea, especially when Matilde tried to urge her to. I hope the preview for tomorrow's episode turns out to just be a fantasy on Isadora's part and she is thwarted. That has happened before, I think.

Tierra. Regarding Isadora's escape from the hospital, it seemed to me there was quite a gap between her getting shot and taking a hostage. Couldn't Fernández have grabbed her somehow right after he shot her, or shot her again? Also, what's with Cayetana not securing the door after she pulled her gun and got away from Isadora? And when Isadora took refuge with Ulises and Patricia, after U and P refused to let the police search their place without a warrant, wouldn't the police have left a car outside their apartment building and seen Roger come to pick up Isadora? I have relatives in Houston. I hope the police there aren't that incompetent! Speaking of police, doesn't the Houston department owe José Antonio 10 years of back pay? I like the way Fernández tried to talk some sense into Cayetana about Leonardo, particularly his question about whether she thought her daughter would really try to kill someone. And the Gallardo-del Junco-Soledad get-together was so warm and welcoming that it's obvious that Caye is really missing out!

Tierra. More reflections on the preview for tonight's episode. The previous frightening fantasy presented as a preview was when Isadora was holding Arturo captive and fantasizing about killing him. I hope that what really happens is that Isadora is thwarted by Fernández or Cayetana (concealed in the balcony so that she can see Sofi's wedding), or maybe by her own unremoved bullet.

Tierra. I really liked the bridesmaid dresses on Irina and Andrea!

Tierra

So what are Edward's business plans in TX? I'm not sure I understood what he is up to.

I can't believe Art went to ask Leo what really happened - trying to get the truth from Leo is like trying to squeeze blood from a turnip - there's just none in there to get out. No wonder things degenerated so quickly to Art manhandling an injured man, Art just isn't thinking clearly.

re Isadoras continuing escapes - getting away is her superpower - no other explanation I can think of 'cause yeah Nestor could totally have taken her out

Tierra

Ok, I realize that trying to poison Irina so she'll lose the baby is a way worse crime than throwing away books but I hate the hk so much more for throwing out DF's book collection than I did after any of her other crimes. Now I want her to seriously suffer - guess we know where my priorities are.
Actually though I think its because she had a motive and a reason for all the other things but throwing away DF's books brought her no benefit - she just did it because she's a B!&*^h and she thinks DF is helpless and she can bully him.

Tierra

On a happier note - I'm so glad JA was able to convince Sole to resume their thing, she looks so much happier now and they are sweet together.
Sole's reasons for not wanting to restart their relationship were dumb and I'm glad JA didn't listen. And the kids were so happy about it she had no reason to worry

I liked Sole joking that she'd send JA far far away the night before their wedding

Tierra. I'm pretty sure that Arturo has a very clear idea of what Leo must have been up to, given his past history. I have zero sympathy for Montalvo and have to say that being manhandled was mild compared to what he deserved. Yep, Matilde is gratuitously cruel and creepy. No comments on tonight's episode yet (for the West Coast folks), but wait till you see what she did to don Felipe's dress uniform! Btw, it seems to me that the editing of the episodes is getting a bit choppy. Could they be cutting what would have been a larger number of episodes than the 6 that are left? Edward wants to buy a ranch in Texas, and Leo has offered to sell him the del Junco ranch--presumably after he has gotten rid of Cayetana and all 3 of her daughters + grandson? He has told Edward that Caye approves of the sale, and he has told Isadora that he's going to use the money to run off to Europe with her.

Tierra. All I'll say about tonight's episode is that Isadora's shooting people wasn't a fantasy, but Sofi and Arturo are just fine.

Tierra. It occurs to me that Leo may be planning to "sell" the ranch to Edward and then disappear, in other words work the same kind of scam that he used to in Mexico. Isadora stabbed the policeman on guard in the church balcony and shot a bride and groom as they were walking down the isle. But since the Gallardos/del Juncos had been late in arriving, the church had moved up one of the other weddings scheduled that day (must be June) so that Isadora shot the wrong person. Of course she miraculously escaped again! and didn't even know she had shot the wrong people until she called the Rancho Alcazar--where the wedding had been transferred--and Sofia answered. Fortunately the injured couple are going to recover, but I'm thinking that any part of the Valverde fortune that isn't confiscated by the government should go to them! Isadora has now killed a policeman and badly wounded 2 innocent people; she should be dead meat as far as the Houston police are concerned. Matilde destroyed don Felipe's dress uniform while "ironing" it; fortunately Nieves found an acceptable uniform substitute which looked pretty much the same after his medals were attached. I can't understand either why Caye puts up with Matilde's abuse of her father.

Tierra

Am I the only one who found it pretty cold that everyone happily went on with the wedding plans after the couple
got shot by mistake? Maybe with my Spanish lacking I missed something, or maybe they just didn' have time to get
into that.

SpanProf, thank you for the informative comments.

AnonGringa

Tierra. AnonGringa: Yeah, it was pretty cold and only slightly softened by the news that the wounded couple were going to be ok (though that was a pretty high-powered automatic rifle and Isadora got them more than once). It may be a sign of too much condensing in the final episodes or a desire by the characters to finally legalize Arturo's and Sofia's union before Isadora is unleashed again. And maybe there will be more treatment of this decision in the next episode

Tierra:SpanProf

Thank you for responding. You've helped me to understand a lot that I would have missed otherwise.
AnonGringa

I don't comment more often due to thoselittle picturea.

TIERRA
This novela is schizophrenic. It goes off on it's own plotline for a while and then goes back to almost scene for scene from Pasión de Gavilanes and sometimes the two don't mesh very well. Sofía and Arturo's wedding, Matilde ruining the General's uniform and Isadora's unfatal shooting of another wedding party is right out of PdG. Leo also was shopping the ranch to someone but it was another rancher and old friend of the family, not Verónica's ex. In PdG, the Darío character was a clothing designer and he made another uniform for the General who never knew what happened to the original.

Tierra
With Sneaky's contribution, Leo's booty count (or bedpost notch) is up to nine. I don't even remember the stripper who looked like Sophia.

I'll be so glad when Matilde ends up in prison again. I can't wait to see how her snooty attitude and sticking her nose up in the air will go over with the other inmates. I'm guessing her nose will get slapped out of the air in no time.

I agree that it was pretty cold of them to not concern themselves with the injuries of the people who got shot instead of Arturo and Sofia.

And I'm surprised that Leo didn't slap Cayetana for defying him and going to the wedding anyway, since he seems to use violence to deal with everything else. Starting with the way he used to manhandle Sofia when they were married, the two beatings he gave Pablo for defying an order from him and putting him in the hospital after the second beating, head-butting the ranch hand who wouldn't do what he said about the fence and sinking to an all time low and ordering the beating of an unruly horse who didn't want to be shaved and then slapping Andrea when she protested. I'm guessing Leo probably had a violent upbringing while growing up in some cockroach infested ghetto in Mexico.

Tierra. britishcomedyfan: Cayetana is still too powerful. Leo can't afford to antagonize her; he may be violent and a bully, but he's also a coward.

Tierra. Also I don't think Cayetana has signed over any kind of power of attorney to him yet, and if Caye should show up with even the tiniest bruise, if don Felipe didn't kill Leo, Fernandez would.

Tierra

Jean your totally right this tn seems like its written by two very different people
One wants to just use the PdG plotline verbatim so they don't have to do any work and the other likes intrigue, and believable supporting characters, and gun trafficking storylines, and what we're getting is the product of an uneasy truce between the two

SpanProf - I agree with you about why Leo hasn't hit Caye yet - though I don't think he's as afraid of dF as he should be

britcomfan - we all want Matilde to get her comeuppance, and the sooner the better - I know I will be partying

TIERRA

Ha ha, sneaky -- I guess that makes two of us! Matilde's tossing the book collection was the last straw for me with her as well.

AnonGringa (and others) said: Am I the only one who found it pretty cold that everyone happily went on with the wedding plans after the couple

It was pretty selfish and self-centered of everyone, and I don't know why this apparently didn't occur to the writers. If they couldn't think of another reason, they could easily have used the same reason for the change in locales as was used in PDG, even if it is a little "woo-woo" -- I mean, that should not bother them because earlier in the story they had Alma visiting Veronica in her dreams so it's not like there is no precedent. In PDG, a couple nights before the wedding, the Veronica character got a dream "warning" from the Irina character about something bad happening to the wedding at the large church they'd booked. That spooked the Sofia character enough that at the last minute they moved the wedding to a different, smaller, church, but still at the same time. They spent the night before calling all the guests to let them know about the new location, and the larger church where they were originally going to have the wedding put another wedding into the now-vacant spot (One of the Reyes brothers joked that if any of their guests didn't hear about the change in location, at least they would get to see A wedding). Because all they did was move to a different church, no-one found out about the attack at the original church until a character who had not heard about the last-minute venue change and so had gone to the original church, showed up at the reception.

Jean said: This novela is schizophrenic. True, but it is sort of the same character, just younger and an ex- of Veronica's. But this character in PDG was someone known to the girls' family and he was sort of a foreigner (in PDG he had a German name and was played by a character actor whose family was originally English so he plays "gringos" a lot). Eduardo is sort of from London; he is known to the del Juncos via his connection with Veronica and her mother. And he's interested in Candelaria, who is the Pepita character in this novela. I don't know if Pepita was originally meant to have a love interest in PDG, but once the actress got pregnant and they decided to write that into the story, they made the wealthy rancher to whom the Leonardo character was trying to sell the farm into Pepita's secret sugar daddy.

TIERRA

In the post above, I said: In PDG, a couple nights before the wedding, the Veronica character got a dream "warning" from the Irina character about something bad happening to the wedding at the large church they'd booked.

GRRRR. I meant, In PDG, a couple nights before the wedding, the Veronica character got a dream "warning" from the ALMA character about something bad happening to the wedding at the large church they'd booked.
