La Vecina-Highlights and Discussion #30-34 August 3-7
This is my last week of vacation before I go back to work full time August 10. From now on I will be scheduling a post for every Monday at 2PM EST.
I will have recaps this week, but I can't make any guarantees about the future until Amores con trampa ends. I'm not above shameless begging. Have you ever thought about recapping? This might be the perfect place to give it a try. It's a smaller "venue" and even if it's just highlights and jokes about Simon's rocket, you will have the eternal thanks of the patio. Even if it's just once or twice. You don't have to commit to a long time period. Week by week is fine. Piénsalo, ok? I'm sure we can make this work and keep it going.
Last Week in Review
I begin with an apology. There will be no Seussian rundown of the events. It may happen one day, but alas I do not have any of Mr. Geisel's brilliance. For now the summary will be kind of dry.
Isa and Antonio
Ricardo continues to play Isa. Isa is becoming more and more confused by her growing feelings toward Ricardo.
Much like Antonio. He's been confused by his feelings for Sara since their weekend together.
Unfortunately, Isa and Antonio think continuing with their wedding plans will solve these problems.
Bruno and Laura
Bruno is crushed to discover that Laura is married to Pedro.
Viewerville is crushed that Laura is married to Pedro. Pedro is scary and controlling and physically abusive. He's having Laura watched and followed while he is away on business.
We are also perplexed about Laura expressing her dislike for men who only think of women as property. Is she not self-aware? Or was she admitting there was a problem and this is the first inkling we have that she wants to get away from Pedro?
Simon and Edwina
She continues to admire his rocket. Simon continues to teach her about his rocket. *snicker*
Conatrol and Pedro
Conatrol has approved the plan to tint the gasoline. Pedro feels like Antonio is a problem, but that actually making him sleep with the fishes will create more problems. He sends someone to scare Antonio. Unfortunately, it was Pepe driving the car. Everyone now knows Antonio is in danger. He's got bodyguards now.
Sara and Laura
Are working closely to improve the restaurant. Their current projects include:
- Reinstating the agreement with Conatrol.
- Buying cheaper booze.
- Lowering the power bill.
Other little things that may come up later
- Antonio's father wants to ask Isa's dad for a loan.
- Padre Vicente and Fidel have made a bet on the soccer game.
- Cheo is still around.
Previous: Episodes 20-29
Next: Episodes 35-39
Labels: la-vecina
Pedro officially scares the hell out of me.
Perhaps Anselo should get glasses. We already saw how he interpreted a business meeting as a meeting between "amigos", and now he sees a cheek kiss as a full on kiss on the mouth.
OMG! That had *me* checking my glasses!!!! I was confused...and I was watching!
El Refrito
Natalia makes her “date” to talk to Ricardo.
Antonio and Sara continue their dance. (Note to self: try to find out the song they are dancing to.) Antonio goes for a kiss and Sara stops him . This time her head will win. Not her heart.
Lo Nuevo
Laura enjoys dancing with Carlos. Anselmo has to get up to get a better look and bumps into a waiter. The waiter notices that he’s armed and reports it to the bar owner. The bar owner then goes to talk to security and Antonio’s guards overhear him. Meanwhile, Anselmo sneaks out the back door.
Antonio’s guards rush into the bar and tell Antonio they have to go because there was a report of someone armed in the bar. Antonio doesn’t want to go, but Sara convinces him to leave for his safety. Carlos will take Laura home.
Outside her house Laura explains to Carlos that Antonio is the boss at Conatrol and that there have been some threats. Carlos jokes about how well they take care of him. Carlos gives her an innocent and culturally acceptable kiss on the cheek, which I guess from Anselmo’s point of view looks like a kiss on the mouth...maybe. If you’re an idiot. Carlos and Laura make a date to talk business the day after tomorrow.
Antonio and Sara return to the apartment complex. He makes a crack about everything being turning into a disaster when she’s around. She takes light offense and Antonio tells her he was kidding. The best disasters he’s experienced in his life have been with her. She’s worried about the threats against him. She doesn’t want him staying in San Gaspar. I assures her nothing will happen.
Qunintin reports the latest threat to Fidel. Fidel tells Quintin to inform the undercover patrol that they are to take Anto to work each day using a different car and a different route.
Sara thanks Antonio for everything. He has something to tell her. He hasn’t told her the real reason he’s come back to San Gaspar. Yes, he wants to see the project to it’s completion but above all what matters most is…..the arrival of Rafa. *groan* Rafa heard about the latest event.
Anselmo calls Pedro and tells him about Laura’s trip to the bar. Anto and Sara picked her up, but she came home with the guy from the day before. And they kissed on the LIPS! Pedro tells Anselmo to find the guy. Pedro will be back tomorrow.
Simon in surprised that Sara is home so early. She explains about the armed guy. She’s really worried about Anto. Simon can tell she still loves Anto, but reminds her that Anto is still with his novia. Some one has to keep Sara grounded in reality.
Outside, Anto asks Rafa not to mention the latest threat to anyone. If Lic Uribe finds out about it, Anto will have to leave for sure.
The next morning, Pedro is back home and that good morning “caress” looks pretty scary to me. Did she miss him? She did. He stops her on way to take a bath. He kisses her shoulder...and her face doesn’t look like she’s digging it.
Sara and Anto are both leaving at the same time. She says she’s dying of curiosity. What was he trying to tell her last night? This time the conversation is interrupted by a call from Isa. *groan* Anto tells her he can’t talk and runs after Sara. Isa is annoyed that Anto puts everything before her.
Anto catches up with Sara. She asks what it was he wanted to tell her. This time they are interrupted by the plainclothes cops. *groan* They were worried because he told them 10 minutes ago he was coming down and he never showed up. Anto understand they need to protect him, but he needs his privacy, too. Ok. (I’m sort of with the officers on this. 10 minutes is a long time.) Sara excuses herself and Anto wants to go with her. The officers inform Anto that they will be taking him to work from now on. Sara waves and leaves.
Anselmo pays a guy to talk to the employees at the bar. Anselmo now knows Carlos’s name and the hotel where he’s staying.
Laura calls Sara. She won’t be in to work. She has a terrible headache (looks like she has a terrible heartache, too.)
From the hotel Anselmo reports that Carlos went out early that morning. Pedro tells him not to move. Carlos will be back. They hang up.
Ingeniero Gutierrez arrives at Conatrol. He heard about the attack. (Gutierrez is talking about the first one.) Rafa makes a comment that since Anto is determined to stop the robbers, he’s been threatened TWICE. Gutierrez is shocked. “Two threats?” He had only heard of one. Anto tells him about the events at the booze tasting. Gutierrez if Lic Uribe has been informed. Anto asks Gutierrez for his discretion. Anto wants to finish the project. Gutierrez understands, but if there’s another situation that puts Anto’s life in dancer, Gutierrez is not going to quiet. Anto understands and then is ready to get to work. A delay could have lamentable consequences. Gutierrez will be working with Ramon. Ramon is called to Anto’s office. Gutierrez smacks at mosquitoes.
A nice lady around Nachtio’s age arrives in answer to his “Help Wanted” sign. I see sparks. Did you see sparks??
Gutierrez continues to be accosted by the mosquitoes. Anto tells him that he had trouble with them when he first arrived, too. He was advised he take vitamin B and he hasn’t been bothered by them since. I wonder if that’s true. Ramon arrives. They discuss the plan to add the colorant. They are going to inject it using a high pressure bomba (pump)
Nacho asks his prospective employee about her experience. She used to work in a little fonda making simple things like quesadillas and enchiladas, but it closed when the rent contract wasn’t renewed. Naco tells her that for now they are just serving sandwiches and drinks. She doesn’t seem bothered by it. She agrees to the salary (2,000 pesos every two weeks...about $124 plus tips) and she starts tomorrow. After she leaves he prays that it works out.
Laura is on her way out. She’s going to the church. Pedro tells her to wait. He’ll go with her.
Padre Vicente tries to rally his team. Their game with the “Atilleros” is coming up! (That’s Fidel’s team.) They must win! Or he will have to help Fidel for a week! If they win, Fidel has to come to catechism class with Vladimir.
Quintin and Fidel discuss the bet. “Los Salados” (Padre’s team) are looking good to win the Clásico. But Fidel’s team has to win! Fidel worries if maybe Padre has more influence with God. Quintin suggests that they could pay off a ref. Fidel nixes the idea. The ref could confess and the Padre would turn them in. Quintin thinks that’s the beauty of his plan! The Padre can’t break the confessional seal!! Fidel still nixes the idea. They will have to find some other way to cheat.
Laura didn’t realize the church was closed, but Pedro thinks he’s just caught her in a lie. She is tired of his mistrust. He is tired of her lies. She tries to walk away. He gets grabby and accusey. He asks if she was coming to meet her lover. She’s confused and he gets yelly, but they are interrupted by one of Pedro’s business associates. Laura makes her escape. The associate guy says something about putting in a bid for a contract for a new government building (?). Pedro brushes him off and says he’ll come to his office.
Anselmo sees Carlos return to the hotel.
Laura cries in the park. Bruno sees her and sees that she’s crying and asks if he can help. She says she just was feeling sentimental over something silly. Bruno looks worried.
Anselmo informs Pedro that Carlos is back. Pedro tells him “you know what to do.” Anselmo calls Carlos’s room and asks him to come down and move his car. It’s in a reserved spot. When Carlos comes down, Anselmo knocks him out and puts him in the trunk of his (Carlos’s) car.
Cheo is going to San Gaspar to see Sara. Roque thinks it’s not a good idea to go without telling her. Cheo wants to surprise her. Roque will go with Cheo.
Sara is finishing up for the night at the restaurant. Anto comes to see her.
Carlos has been dragged to Pedro’s office. Pedro forces him to drink a whole bottle of alcohol. Even though Carlos tells him he doesn’t drink. Pedro keeps telling Carlos that this is for not respecting what belongs to Pedro.
Sara is ready to leave, but Anto wants to talk to her. He came back to San Gaspar for his work, but also he came back for her. Sara tells him that doesn’t change a thing. He’s decides to stay in his relationship with Isa. He really wishes she understood how hard it is for him to end the life he had before he met her. He’s not trying to make excuses, he just needs her to know how hard it is to change the way he does things. Sara understands that his whole life has been very controlled and he’s discovering something in himself and he doesn’t know what to do with it. He’s afraid, but he feels like he can overcome it with Sara at his side. He just wants a little time. When she asks for what, he tells her “to put my ideas in order”. She asks him if he even realizes that what he’s doing is playing with her feelings. She’ll give him all the time he needs, but she’s going to keep living her life. If they meet again when he knows what he wants, they can talk again. And if she’s still free, then she’ll listen to him. Anto says she’s right. The next time he talks to her about love, it will be because he can offer it to her wholeheartedly. Sara will understand if that never happens, though. And with that the conversation is over. Anto will have to get a ride with Sara though. I second Vivi’s praise of that conversation. Calm adults really talking it out even though it hurt. And they still walked away being cordial to each other.
Pedro continues to force Carlos to drink.
Chepe won’t let Cheo or Roque in. Neither Simon, Bruno nor Sara are home and security procedures have changed. Chepe doesn’t know any more than that. Cheo and Roque decide to wait.
Pedro forces the rest of the bottle down Carlos’s throat. Carlos’s cell phone rings. Pedro sees it’s from Laura. Pedro holds a gun to Carlos. The younger henchman tells Pedro not to get his hands dirty. They will take care of Carlos. Then a text comes through. Also from Laura telling Carlos she won’t be able to meet him. Pedro tells his men to take Carlos away. Pedro thinks to himself that Laura will never see Carlos again.
Cheo and Roque approach Sara and Anto. Cheo is mad...ha ha! The guards pull a gun on him and i laugh out loud. Sara and Anto calm everyone down. The guards call Roque and Cheo suspicious. Cheo thinks Anto hired the guards to protect him from Cheo. Cheo explains he was worried because she wasn’t answering his texts. Sara and Cheo go upstairs and Ant grits his teeth about the messages.
Natalia is headed out to Sebastian. Isa is a little bored. Anto calls only to talk in monosyllables. Some parrot joke. Natalia offers to stay and Isa tells her not to worry.
Anto is still in grumbling about the messages Cheo and Sara have exchanged when Rafa calls him. He’s just calling to tell him that he’s going to pick Anto up the next day. Anto complains about the guards cramping his style. Rafa gives Anto a hard time about riding with Sara. She has an open and unsafe car. Anto is just tired of it. Rafa tells him that Officer Cavez (Fidel) wants him taking a different route for his safety. Anto jokes that they should have him sleeping someplace different every night, too. Anto wants space! Rafa says they have to take care of him. Quique, Rafa’s boyfriend we assume, acts jealous. I hope they give Quique more to do soon.
Natalia tells Ricardo she’s on the way. They’ll meet in some cafe.
Sara tells Cheo about her new job. She’s happy. She reminds Cheo that the job falling through at Conatrol was not Anto’s fault. Cheo though she was going to stay with Padre Vicente, but Sara is fine at Simon’s and it means nothing that Ant is her neighbor.
Laura is making a call, but stops when Pedro comes home. Pedro gets jealous and yelly again. He pushes her down and she says always just tried to make him happy. He pushes her again and says “Lets see if that’s true” and he moves off screen. And I find that really scary.
Cheo wants to know why she wasn’t answering. She didn’t want to give him false hopes. He had hoped that the could try again since she wasn’t with Anto. She explains AGAIN that she and Cheo were over even before she met Anto. All she wants to do is concentrate on her job. Cheo is glad she still cares though. He’s going to keep fighting for her. He’s sure no one can love her like he does. Simon and Bruno come home and Cheo leaves...reminding Sara that no one can love her like he does. Simon and Bruno see that.
Roque thinks it’s obvious that Sara and Anto are together. Cheo tells him to shut up. Cheo is going tot get her back. Roque jokingly tells him to propose to Sara. Cheo looks like he’s really thinking about it.
Sara tells Simon and Bruno that Cheo was there to ask her to come back to him. He reminded her of the guy she fell in love with. Bruno doesn’t understand women. Oh! That reminds him! He tells Sara about running into Laura and she was crying. Sara finds it odd since Laura called in sick. Sara looks concerned. I thought she was going to remember the bruises too.
The phone rings at Pedro’s Sara has called to check on Laura, but Pedro informs her she’s already asleep. Pedro assures Sara that Laura is feeling better. If you call a big black eye “better.”
Fin.
Can both Padre and Fidel lose the bet? I kind of want to see both of them comply with their punishment for losing.
Best (only) comedic moment of the episode was Cheo and Roque scared and on their knees in front of the bodyguards, when they tried to confront Tonio.
Oh yes! I scared the cats laughing when Cheo and Roque were being yelled at by the guards.
Apparently Isa has an app that lets her know when Ant is making headway with Sara.
Denise
Thanks, Vivi! Let's talk later in the week. I may ask you do do a day next week. (School starts Thursday. I am most worried about that day because I will also have the Sombra recap and that's in Ultimas Capitulos.)
I'm on the West coast, so it would be a little later of course.
Of course, it can be as long or as short as you want. If you wanted to just put up highlights that's good, too. No pressure.
And that's fine if you're on the west coast!
If you click on my name, that leads to my profile page and a link to my email, so if you have any questions feel free to contact me.
Off to write the recap, now. It was another good episode that flew by.
Example:
Fred acts like an idiot in front of his mom. RPC.
See? That whole 10 minute scene where Fred pitched a fit because mom didn't cut the crust off his sammich....gone with the magic RPC*
El Refrito
Roque jokingly tells Cheo to propose to Sara.
Sara tells Simon and Bruno that Cheo wants to get back together. She does still find him charming.
Bruno tells Sara about Laura crying.
Sara calls Laura. Pedro says Laura is fine. LIE!
Lo Nuevo
Laura wants to know why he told Sara she was fine. Sara will see the black eye tomorrow. Pedro says she won’t because Laura isn’t going back to the restaurant. “You can’t do that!” she protests. But of course Pedro can. He’s the one in charge.
Natalia meets with Ricardo. She wants to know his intentions with Isa. They are honorable, he swears (*snort*) Natalia has never seen her friend happier and really she doesn’t mind Ricardo being around. Ricardo can’t understand why Anto is ignoring Isa. He seems to find other things more important than her. Natalia says they are still continuing with the wedding plans….whenever Anto returns from San Gaspar. Natalia leaves for her date with Sebastian and Ricardo celebrates having Natalia as an ally.
Sara thought Pedro was a little brusque on the phone. She figures she’ll see Laura in the morning. Bruno wonders if Laura is having trouble with Pedro.
Oh geez. Cheo is actually contemplating asking Sara to marry him. Roque tells him it’s a long road from caring about someone to loving them enough for marriage. Thank you Roque.
Ricardo comes to see Isa. He lays on the charm. He can’t stop thinking of her. She’s obviously affected by him. He promises nothing will happen unless she wants it to. Smoochies. Cue the Slimy Ricardo Theme.
Antonio goes to see Sara. He he couldn’t sleep thinking Cheo was with her. Is she going to give Cheo another chance? She doesn’t think that’s his business. He agrees and says he needs to stay out of her business. She reminds him that there is nothing between them. She is going to live her life. They can maintain a cordial relationship. As he leaves, she tells him to take care of himself. They stare at each other with longing and I get frustrated and pouty that they can’t be together already.
Natalia is back from spending the night at Sebastian’s. Isa is happy as a clam, but guess what...NOTHING HAPPENED!! Isa explains that she and Ricardo were getting pretty hot and heavy but he stopped. He didn’t want Isa to think he was taking advantage and using her as a one night stand. When they finally make love, it will be because they are going to be with each other forever. Isa swoons that he is such a gentleman. Natalia is glad to see her friend happy again, but reminds Isa that she needs to define her relationship with Antonio.
Rafa picks up Antonio for work. Antonio asks if the parts came for injecting the dye. Rafa informs him that they did. Ingeniero Gutierrez is working with the team.
Nelson tries to take pictures of some plans. Ramon and Gutierrez arrive and say technical things about the dye plan.
Pedro asks his men if the “took care of him.” They did. They left him in a ravine. Pedro hopes they didn’t leave any traces. The henchman NOT named Anselmo assures Pedro that when they find Carlos, they will think that he had an accident and drowned while he was drunk. Pedro leaves Anselmo in charge of guarding Laura.
They recover Carlos’s body. At the station unnamed cop and Quintin discuss that there was no ID on the body so they don’t know who it is. Luckily one of Antonio’s guards comes to report the incident at the bar the night before. He and Quintin get to talking about the body and Guard Guy looks at the file. He knows this guy from somewhere. Aha! It’s the guy that was with Ingeniero Andrade last night!
Sara and Pedro discuss Laura’s migraines.
Fidel Chavez (being referred to as “Chavez” for this scene) comes to see Antonino and shows him a picture of Carlos. Antonio confirms is Carlos. He also tells Chavez that Carlos is an abstemio (teetotaller) and is therefore surprised he was drunk.
Carmelo calls Pedro and reports that the other guys are getting nervous. They heard about the second attempt. Pedro tells him that Anselmo was at that bar watching Laura and everyone can calm down.
Edwina reads about Bernoulli. I barely remember it from classes in English. I”m not about to give myself a headache to figure it out in Spanish. The most important thing is that Edwina was just as confused as I and she *had* to call Simon to ask about it. He offers to have her come over and he’ll help her understand. She accepts. As soon as Edwina is done talking to Simon, Magda calls. Can Edwina watch Vladimir. Edwina accepts. And then gets frustrated.
Antonio calls Ricardo about the dye. Ricardo informs him that it’s here, but hung up in customs. Antonio wants Ricardo to talk to Benavides, their contact in customs. Ricardo claims Benavides no longer works in customs. After they hang up, Ricardo’s blond buddy is confused. He thought Benavides was still working in customs. Ricardo explains he’s just trying to keep Ant in San Gaspar longer. Blonde buddy isn’t so cool with what Ricardo is doing.
Bruno got his truck license. Simon is getting ready to build a water rocket.
Fidel tells Sara about Carlos’s death. She also confirms he didn’t drink all night. She explains that she was doing business with Carlos because her old supplier didn’t work with the company any more. She tells Fidel that Laura spent more time with Laura, but she didn’t come to work today. Fidel asks if Pedro know Carlo. Not to Sara’s knowledge. Don Pedro was out of town when they contacted Carlos. She tells him what hotel Carlos was staying at. Fidel calls Quintin and tells him to head for the hotel Morelos and ask them to open Carlos’s room.
It looks like Carlos didn’t really leave. He left his wallet and the TV is still on. The staff assumed he was still in the room. Fidel tells Quintin to check the front desk to see if they have any information. The next of kin need to be notified.
Cheo makes a stupid video. “I’m keeping track of the days without you.”
Isa and Ricardo meet at a restaurant. She’s got thoughts going crazy in her head. He tells her to just let her feeling lead her. She relaxes and asks about him. She wants to go back to his place. He makes the excuse that the place is a mess.
Anto calls Sebastian. They talk about the second attempt and Sebastian thinks Anto should return to the DF and let Ricardo take his place. Anto wants to stay in San Gaspar and tells Sebastian not to say anything to Lic Uribe. Anto tells the Sebastian about the dye hold up customs. Sebastian mentions Benavides. According to Ricardo, Benavides isn’t working there. Sebastian will go over to customs and find out what he can and get in touch with Anto.
Ricardo picks his teeth and Isa asks about him to tell her about himself. He makes up a cock and bull story about going into engineering even though his grandfather wanted him to go into law like all the generations of men before him. Ricardo tells her he’s all alone in the world. His parents died, and his grandparents raised him...but they have passed away, too.
Fidel goes to interview Laura about a body that’s been recovered, but Anselmo claims Laura is out. Anselmo will tell her about the visit. Laura watches the exchange from inside and wonders why the police were there. Anselmo calls Pedro. He’s panicked. Pedro tells him not to worry. THey probably just knew that Laura was at the bar. Pedro asks if Laura has tried to leave. She hasn’t.
Edwina arrives to babysit Vladimir. She asks if he would like to see Simon. Vladimir would love to!
Nachito’s new employee is very efficient and I think she’s going to be a big help to him. I kind of want him with her. Sooo, I guess that makes me a horrible person since his wife would probably have to die for that to happen.
Quique waits outside Conatrol. The security guards think he is suspicious. He claims to be Rafa Padilla’s cousin. So Rafa is called. Rafa is in a meeting with Anto and he’s not happy that Quique’s visit has interrupted him. Quique just couldn’t help it. He wanted to see this Andrade guy that takes up so much of Rafa’s time. Can he at least see a picture? Rafa tells him to go home. He doesn’t want suspicions raised. This is his job. Quique asks how long is Rafa going to keep him hidden?
Edwina and Vladimir come to see Simon and the water rocket. I’m kind of bummed because making rocket jokes just isn’t right when Vladimir is around. There is some technical discussion of how the rocket works. They need to name the rocket and Vladimir be damned….Simon’s got a rocket with Edwina’s name on it. I love the pot on Bruno’s head. And there was rocket music and sound effects. Really fun.
Isa is happy because of Ricardo. Natalita reminds her about Antonio. Isa doesn’t know what to do about Antonio. She’s not going to make any decisions until she is sure.
Ricardo reassess his apartment. He wouldn't even bring Isa here as a joke. He looks at listings for mansions. This is what he needs.
Sara calls to check on Laura and tells her about Carlos. Laura is shocked and also confused by the news that Carlos was drinking. Sara wonders if Laura will be in tomorrow. Laura isn’t sure. After they hang up, Laura remembers her argument with Pedro outside the church and wonders if Pedro could have had anything to do with it.
At Nachito’s fonda, Bruno and the budding farmers collective discuss plans to cut out Pedro the middleman. He’s been screwing them over too long. He buys from them at crap prices and sells for higher prices. One of Pedro’s men eavesdrops.
Simon drops off Edwina and Vladimir. Magda was worried sick. After Vladimir goes in, Magda asks how things are going with Simon. Edwina swears it’s just a scientific relationship. Sure, Edwina.
Sara gets Cheo’s stupid “counting the days without you like a prisoner” video. Anto is happy to see her laughing. He asks if it’s from Cheo. She gets snippy and says she doesn't have to explain all her business.
I'm watching now. RIP, Carlos. We hardly knew you, but you seemed like a really nice guy.
I'm a little confused. Isabel told Natalia, "Lo que tenía que pasar pasó." That usually means "We did the deed." Hmmmm.
Vivi-thank you for your explanation, because I was thinking along the same lines as Denise as well.
I didn't get home until 5 today so I'm about to sit down and watch today's episode. Most likely I will just be posting a highlights list.
It felt like a very full episode. It took me forever to watch it since I was pausing every 10 minutes to check on my sick kitty.
This is in no particular order.
Fidel finds out that Edwina has "novio" and that it's Simon. Fidel acts like he's in charge of Edwina despite her being a grown ass woman. He gives Simon hell. Simon tells Edwina he can't teach her about rockets any more.
The autopsy is back on Carlos. There was alcohol in his system...but such a high amount, he wouldn't have been able to walk much less drive.
Pedro gets a call from the dude he ran into when he was with Laura at the church. Pedro is still interested in the contract for the govt building.
Fidel interviews Laura. She explains the business relationship she had with Carlos.
Fidel and Quintin remember the unidentified body that was found in the swamp (la ciénaga) a few episodes back. Wasn't he also drunk? They ask the coroner if he can compare the alcohol with Carlos (Yeah, I can't remember exactly.) The coroner can't unless they exhume the body. Fidel asks him to do that.
Ricardo makes calls about renting a house. He can't afford the kind of house Isabel would be impressed with.
Sebastian goes to see Benavides and gets the colorante problem solved. He tells Antonio that Ricardo lied. I think they both agree to keep close tabs on Ricardo.
Sebastian meets Natalia for lunch. She got the contract! She'll be in charge of the account! (Was if for a car place?) Isa is also at the restaurant...to meet Ricardo. Isa sees Sebas and Nat first so she and Ricardo have to play like they aren't meeting each other.
Over lunch Sebas tells Nat and Isa about Ricardo purposely holding up the colorante.
After lunch Isa asks Ricardo about it. He tells her that Anto was just being an impatient SOB.
Sara decides to go see Laura. There are some requisition orders that need to be signed. Sara asks about the black eye. Laura claims to have bumped into the door of the alacena(cupboard.) Sara barely believes it.
Sara tells Bruno about the black eye. He makes some rude comments about Laura marrying Pedro for his money, but is also concerned.
Pedro is a jealous jerk. He tells Laura that she can't go to the restaurant anymore.
Nelson and Rafa talk to Nachito about the latest news with Antonio. Rafa is starting to think that Anto was right and that there was a mole in the company...and they think it might be Marina. NOOOOO!
Cheo sends corny texts. They have a video chat. Cheo gets his hopes up. He sends another stupid "this many days without you video."
Anto decides to finally go for it with Sara. He goes to the restaurant, but she is with Laura. He's called back to the office. On his way out, he sees Cheo giving Sara a HUGE bouquet of roses. Cheo sees Anto. (Sara doesn't) Cheo plants a big kiss on Sara.
Fin.
It must have been in the episodes I missed. Can someone explain the other dead body to me? Who is the person? I assume Pedro killed him too.
Ricardo really is slick, turning Isa's accusations around and making her feel bad about doubting him. Wonder where he'll find a cheap mansion for rent?
Cheo. Ugh! Go away.
Cheo is annoying because he won't let go. I guess he's supposed to be funny...but I'm not finding it funny or charming or cute.
We begin right where we left off; Cheo plants a big surprise beso on Sara just as Antonio happens to catch sight of them. He turns around and leaves w/o Sara ever seeing him. She protests the kiss. Cheo follows her into El Molcajete. Cheo gloats that he won one over Antonio. Samuel informs Sara that Antonio was looking for her. Cheo suggests she call him. She does, but Anto doesn’t answer.
Cheo is his most charming self, reminding Sara that this is their fourth anniversary as novios. He asks if he can keep on seeing her. She answers “just as long as you don’t kiss me ‘a la brava’” (w/o permission).
Bruno and Simón discuss Laura’s black eye. Bruno does not doubt that Pedro “se la surtió” (let her have it). Simón says she should report him, but Bruno says that will never happen. Then he says it doesn’t concern him, but we know that it does. They change the subject to Edwina and Simón who insists that he and Edwina simply share a mutual interest even though Fidel thinks otherwise. Sara and Cheo walk in the door.
Ricardo fumes b/c he doesn’t know how Ant. found out about the aduana. Isa calls. She is right outside of his apartment building! Oh shiz! She can’t see his humble abode!
Cheo opines that the guys bought a great model of truck, and he enumerates the reasons. Cheo leaves and the guys quiz Sara about whether Cheo has a chance with her. She implies there’s a chance. Outside, Cheo runs into Ant.. and tells him he wants to “llevar la fiesta en paz”(get along). Ant.says fine. Cheo goes on to say that Sara told him that Ant never meant anything to her.
Ricardo tells Isa that she has the wrong address and that she should meet him at a “midpoint.” She is relieved as Ricardo’s barrio strikes her as sketchy.
Fidel arrives home to find Magda, Edwina and Vlad lined up looking like a firing squad. They ream him about interfering between Edw and Simón. Magda threatens to leave if he doesn’t fix this. Vlad is adorable siding with the ladies.
Ricardo arrives at the agreed upon meeting place to find Isa already there. She is apologetic about doubting him and his integrity. He is hurt, I tell you, hurt because he thought he meant more to her. She starts to swallow his face. She needs to tell him with words what she feels for him.
Simón answers a call from Fidel. Fidel tries to explain, but Simón cuts him off.
Sara goes to Ant’s to ask what he was wanting to speak about earlier. He is super cold to her, thinking she wanted to rub Cheo in his face. Sara returns to the apartment and weepy-eyed tells Simón that Ant. is an “antipático” (meanie).
Cheo brags to Roque that he’s pretty sure Ant bought his story of his reconciliation with Sara. Cheo’s going to keep on laying the groundwork for this to come true.
Cheo is annoying but I'm enjoying watch everyone (except Antonio) laugh at him while he thinks he is making progress and I don't mind Antonio distancing himself from ProtaSara it'll give her some space to breathe and him some time to think about what he really wants
I noticed the late lamented Carlos's car was a Volto - is that a real thing? I've been noticing in tns there are a lot of unfamiliar car logos. Do MX and points south have their own national and local car brands, or are they just covering up the real logos with something so as to not conflict with distributors ad deals?
I know I was hopeful for Ricardo but I'm getting a bad feeling now about Isa's involvement with him - hopefully I'm wrong
Isa returns a call from Ant. She can tell that he is sad about something. He is glad to know that she is there for him. (Uh, not so much). She is happy with her work recently.
Next day, Ant is cold towards Sara as he leaves for work.
Isa laments to Natalia that she can’t decide btwn Ant and Ricardo. Ricardo actually picks at his teeth with a toothpick a the table! But he kisses like a God. Natalia says she’s playing with fire.
Isa’s dad, Guillermo must approve some applications for loans. He hesitates at signing the one for Ant.’s dad. He needs to study the matter further.
Pedro’s spy reports that Bruno is undercutting Pedro’s prices for transporting there harvests. (My comprehension might be a tad bit sketchy here.)
At Conatrol Ant. receives a call from Ricardo who complains that Ant. should not be acting behind his back. If he has any complaints he should go straight to Uribe and request that they not work together. Ant. is not about to fall into that trap.
Simón and Bruno are jubilant that they are about to receive their new truck. Fidel and Quintin enter the workshop. Fidel is “impactado” when he sees the cohete. Fidel give Simon his “permiso” to continue seeing Edwina. Simon answers that it has been a while since he stopped asking permission for things, but since he doesn’t want to cross with the “authorities”...
Isa’s papá drops in to see her. He asks about the financial situation of Ant’s family. He would not want to think that Ant. would use her for her money.
Pedro comes by El Molcajete. He wants Sara to do an inventory and a “balance” of the restaurant. She asks why. He says he wants to sell it. She can’t understand why since the restaurant is humming along so well. He cuts her off and she worries about losing yet another job.
Isabel assures her papá that she doesn’t believe that Ant. would use her. Her dad wants to be sure. Why not ask him directly?
En El Molcajete Sara receives another “cute” image from Cheo. She calls him. He answers “Your future husband here.” She laughs. Then she tells him that she is about to lose another job. He feigns sympathy, saying that she is sure to find another one. After hanging up, he rejoices to Roque that Sara will probably return to Progreso!
Bruno call Sara at the restaurant to tell her that they are about to receive the truck, and could she send food for about 30 people that night for a little “festejo”(celebration)?
She assures him she can. After hanging up, she thinks it’s best not to worry him about losing her job right now.
Simon drop in to see Edwina at the bank to invite her to the festejo. Woo hoo! Things are looking up for Edwina!
Cheo and Roque’s boss wants them to go check out some prospective autos to buy.
Cheo convinces Roque to go alone so that he can go back to San Gaspar to keep the fire hot with Sara. Roque reluctantly agrees.
At Conatrol Gutiérrez talks oil injection talk and then asks Ant’s opinion regarding El Molcajete as a good place to have lunch. Ant. says it’s good eats, but he won’t be going since he is “waiting for a phone call.” Gut. leaves and the shirtless guy enters. He asks permission for him and the guys to leave early to get in some “fut” training. Ant. suggests a compromise; the guys will take just a half hour for lunch and then leave a half hour before quitting time. Agreed.
Ricardo calls Sebas to his office to inform him that he, Sebas, will be the liason with Cetrocal from now on. Yada Yada. Sebas asks Ric why he hates Antonio. Ric says “Not at all.” Sebas: “Come on, no need to fake things with me. You’re never going to get the Vice Presidency acting so infantile.” Ric threatens him, “Stop acting behind my back – or else!”
At El Molcajete Sara tells Samuel that don Pedro is planning to sell the restaurant. Gutiérrez overhears their conversation.
Natalia enters Isa’s room to find her packing for jaunt to San Gaspar. Isa explains that she wants to determine what Ant. feels for her and vice versa. Ric calls, inviting Isa to dinner. She begs off citing a “compromiso” (previous obligation).
At Conatrol Marina walks into Ant’s office w/o knocking as is her custom. Ant. reminds her about the need to knock, at which point she exits, knocks and re-enters at Ant’s “Adelante.” She has forms for him to sign. She again expresses how glad she is that he is now getting along so well with the crew. She exits and Gutiérrez enters the office. He says that his enchiladas at El Molcajete were great, but that Ant. should forget about renewing the agreement btwn Conatrol and the restaurant because it appears it is about to close.
Sara arrives at Laura’s house, saying she needs to clear up some business details. (Laura’s eye is magically much better.) Sara can’t find some of the restaurant’s furniture recorded anywhere on any invoices (or STTE). Sara expresses how bad it is that the restaurant will close. The employees just get by now on their salaries. Laura say that she is so sorry. Sara’s telephone rings. She looks at it, but decides not to answer.
Casa de Magda y Fidel: Vlad announces that he has finished his homework. He asks to go to Daniel’s house. Fidel arrives and says that there is no need to treat him coldly b/c he fixed things up regarding the Simón/Edwina situation. Fidel says he would like for Magda and Vlad to go with him to the “fut” practice b/c a little birdie told him that he has the best fútbol assistant right in his own house. Vlad beams.
Sara arrives at the “festejo” held outside somewhere. (I need a little help here.) El tío Vicente (Is that his name?) and Simón faux argue about whether Sara is better off with Simón or her tío. The truck arrives to much fanfare. It’s a big ‘un.
At the Artilleros’ practice, Pepe offers that Ant. sure was “buena onda” (cool) to let them off early. They’re a little worried about the next match against the Salados. Fidel arrives and says they should be warming up and that they are trying out a new Technical Assistant. Vlad beams again. Dang, he’s cute. Fidel has a plan to win the “Clásico.”
It involves going to the pharmacy...
At the festejo:
El padre gives the truck a blessing and a prayer. All finish with an enthusiastic “Amen!”
Edwina drives up apologizing for being late. Simón says, “No prob.” He looks pleased.
Back at “fut” practice:
Vlad is on his Dad’s shoulders as Fidel shouts directions to his players. Vlad has some good suggestions too. Magda, looking on, is smiling.
Back at the festejo, it is nighttime now. There is singing and dancing. Simón calls for silence and, standing on a chair, unfurls and ribbon poster that says. “Many thanks for your collaboration – Bruno y Simón,” or STTE. He takes Edwina aside and thanks her for
bringing sidra, and well, he wishes that they could take up where they left off because of the misunderstanding...
¡YA!
I can't even say thank you enough. This is just so fabulous...is this your first recap??? Seriously, you have the gift!
And the vocabulary was just great! I love vocabulary. It makes me happy.
I'll be back later with my thoughts on the episode. I bet there will be at least one rant about Cheo.
Sara, I knew I could count on you to respond and to say something encouraging! I kept looking back at your recaps to figure out how you do this and how you do that. And I remembered how you said to have fun with it. Thanks for holding my hand through this maiden voyage.
After a while, I think all recappers develop their own style and for me it's always changing like the wind.
And there are times too where all you can do is say "Well, I didn't understand that part" and the patio chips in to help.
I don't know if you're a hugger...but I want to give you a big ol' virtual (((bear hug))) You did such a great job!
I missed the episode, so this recap was particularly needed. I'll catch up this weekend. I especially want to see the party, and I'm so happy Simon (who is also one of Sara's tios like Vicente) and Edwina are on track again.
Although I am as bugged by Tonio that Sara is giving Cheo the time of day, it's really non of his business, considering he is still an engaged man. Take care of your business first, Tonio. Then you can jump in the fight.
Oh, that's right. Sara has two tíos here. Do we know Bruno's relationship to Simon and to Sara?
This is the part where I cross my fingers and hope someone else remembers.
I'm a bad recapper and I always just give up when folks talk business and numbers. Boring! Get to the smoochies!
Padre's tennis shoes under his robes- cool.
I just have to thank Denise again for your fabulous recap. You let me know when you want to do it again!
I'm glad there's a little patio for this show. I was thinking about it yesterday. It is going to run until January in Mexico, but there are some potentially good stories here. And I really love the characters. Except for Pedro and his guys.
Sneaky- this is my BS theory about Carlos's car. I think they hide real logos with fake ones so they don't get in trouble. Though I would think a car company would be fine with free advertising.
And is that car the same one Orlando is driving in YNCELH?
Edwina accepts Simon’s proposal to take up where they left off in their scientific relationship. Aeronautica has given her life meaning.
The dancing begins!
Cheo comes looking for Sara at El Molcajete. Samuel tells him that Sara is delivering food to Simon’s land for a party. Off Cheo goes.
Antonio arrives at El Molcajete. He’s looking for Sara too. He also heads out to Simon’s land.
Cheo gets there first. He and Sara dance real close. Which annoys the stew out of me when Antonio finally arrives. From afar he sees the up close and personal dancing. He harrumphs “And here I was worried she lost her job.” He gets back in his car and leaves.
Cheo goes for another kiss. Sara says she’s tired and wants to go home. Edwina needs a ride, too. Sara gratefully offers to take Edwina, too. Cheo pouts….until they drop off Edwina and she assumes that he and Sara are getting married.
Chepe the Portero greets the arriving Isa and lets it slip that Antonio is being guarded after the atentado. Isa flips and calls Sebastian. She’s not happy that he already knew about it. Sebastian tries to explain that Antonio asked him to be discreet about it. (And I just realized that I am inconsistent in my use of “discreet” and “discrete” and the red line of “you’re stupid” doesn’t tip me off.) Sebastian gets off the phone with Isa and gets fussed at by Natalia.
Quick note: Isa really shows her ass today.
Fidel has a plan to win the game against Padre Vicente’s team. It involves a laxative, oranges, half-time, bathroom humor and sound effects. So I’m going to RPC (Recappers Privilege Card) to the maximum. I don’t do diarrhea plots.
Antonio arrives at the apartment complex. He is cranky. He doesn’t want to listen to Chepe so he’s taken by surprise when Isa calls his name. She yells at him about not telling her about the atentado. She asks if Lic Uribe knows. She’s sure if Lic Uribe knew, then Antonio would have been called back. Anto tells her that Lic Uribe did know, but that he (Anto) wanted to finish his project. Isa gives him a hug. About this time Sara rounds the corner with Cheo. She sees them. Anto sees Sara. He lays a big passionate smooch on Isa. Sara sends Cheo on his way.
At the elevator, Isa asks Sara if she’s going up. Sara says she’ll take the stairs. When Isa comments to Antonio what a pesada (here: rude...loosely translated.) Anto tells Isa that that was Sara-La Vecina.
Sara arrives upstairs shortly after Anto and Isa. Isa loudly remarks that Anto should get her a key so she can let herself in when she visits. Once inside, Isa comments that the neighbor is mal encarada (evil looking) and it must be a real monserga (pain in the ass….loosely translated) to run into her every day. Anto ignores that and puts her suitcase in the bedroom. Isa wonders to herself what Anto could have seen in Sara and that Sara is no competition for Isa.
Quick note: I don’t feel sorry for Isa any more.
In Simon’s apartment, Sara mumbles about how hateful Isa is.
Anto head to work early the next day, but he leaves a not romantic, matter of fact note for Isa. Isa doesn’t wake up until her phone rings. It’s Ricardo. He’s outside her apartment in the DF. He brought coffee and biscuits. She tells him she’s in San Gaspar. He tells her to call when she gets back. He throws away the coffee and biscuits. Dude. I’ll take them!
Sara tells Simon and Bruno about the restaurant closing. Simon says once they get their farm business going, Sara can work for them.
Sara and Anto run into each other in the apartment parking lot. She is very cool to him. He asks if she is jealous, or if Cheo said she can’t talk to him any more. She tells him she won’t answer and he can just stew in his doubt.
Laura tries to talk Pedro out of closing the restaurant. Laura says she’ll spend more time with him and Sara can run the restaurant. Pedro thinks that he bought the restaurant to keep Laura “entertained” (chauvinist ass) and if she’s not going to be the one running it, then he’ll sell it. She’ll be heading to the church later to drop off some things.
Anto calls Sebastian and asks why he told Isa about the atentado.
Sara tries to convince Pedro not to sell. The restaurant is profitable! That’s exactly why he thinks it’s a great time to sell. Sara’s mom calls. Merce is having trouble with the washing machine. A technician is coming out to look at it. They talk about Sara’s dating life. Cheo is coming around, but Sara doesn’t consider them dating. Don’t even mention Anto.
Isa calls Natalia. They mean girl about Sara. “Sara is no rival for me. She saw me and skedaddled.” Natalia can’t believe Isa was calm. Natalia would have ripped her hair out. (desgreñar: to dishevel. But no one says “I’m gonna dishevel him/her!”) Natalia asks if Antonio is being more loving toward Isa. He’s not. He’s still all business. The only one who’s gotten a smile out of Isa is Ricardo. But in the end, Anto is Isa’s reality.
Laura drops a bunch of clothes off at the church. When asked about the black eye, she says she ran into a closet door. Simon wants her help put prices on the clothes. She just needs a sec to ask Pedro’s permission. Padre V doesn’t like her putting it that way (neither do I, Padre.) He tells her to asks Pedro to come help.
Marina, Nelson, Pepe and Ramon present Anto with his own soccer jersey (with “Toño Andrade”) on the back. Anto agrees to be at the game on Sunday to cheer them on. They are happy. Isa calls Ant. She’s bored and wants to go grab a bite to eat. Ant says he can’t leave and tells her to have the guards take her to lunch. Chepe suggests El Molcajete. She’s haughty to the guards
Quick note: I want some sort of sticker for not calling her a bitch. (Which I just sort of did.)
Cheo’s boss yells at him for forgetting to get a client's info. Cheo admits Roque took care of the sale. Cheo had something urgent to take care of. The boss is tired of Cheo’s “urgents”.
Isa arrives at “El Molcajete”. Sara tries to be courteous and to recommend the daily specials. Isa cuts her off. “I don’t need your recommendations.” Sara asks Samuel to take care of Isa.
Ricardo wonders what Isa is up to. He figures she’s eating with Anot. Ric calls Anto and apologizes for interrupting his lunch. Anto tells him he’s eating in the office. Ricardo asks Anto to send info about the injection system. They hang up and Ric celebrates the fact that Isa is NOT with Anto.
Isa is rude to Samuel. She only wants Sara to wait on her.
Quick note: Ok. That’s it. She’s rude to the wait staff. HELL. NO. That is the number one thing that will get you on my sh!t list, b!tch. I don’t feel sorry for you at all. Play this girl like a fiddle, Ric.
Isa gets all arrogant. “The menu says you have lenguado (sole). Can you prepare it a la minier (meunière...brown butter sauce...BTW the CCs rendered it “a manía” ...obsession.)” …. Anyhoo. Sara handles it like the pro she is. “Yes. And what type of garnishes would you like? Potato souffle, grilled mushrooms (gratinado can be grilled or au gratin, so I guess you can decide which sounds better to you), creamed spinach (Blech) or salad.” Isa interrupts to request rice which gets Sara started on another list. Isa settles on white rice.
Padre and Laura start pricing items. He asks about Sara and the restaurant. Laura has to tell him about the restaurant getting sold. Padre remembers the restaurant was purchased for Laura. He wonders if things aren’t going well between her and Pedro. Laura says things are fine and she’ll be dedicating more time to Pedro. Padre Vicente thinks Laura needs her space too, though. She needs to feel useful. The Sacristan interrupts to tell the Padre that the painter is there (artist painter for the church.) Laura asks the sacristan about his leg. Soccer story.
Sara serves Isa her entree and walks away. On the sly, Isa puts one of her own hairs in the plate and then starts screaming about the hair in her food. Sara comes running and says that’s not possible since she oversaw the prep herself. Isa calls the dish a cochinada (Piece o’ crap...ha! carp, no...sole! Ba dum dum) and drops the plate to the table where it breaks. Sara finds the hair and “A HA! this is your own hair! The cook’s hair is red!” Isa busts out with “How dare you accuse me you two-bit waitress! I’m a Cisneros! Ubícate” (Ugh! Which will never get her any points with me.) Isa tells the other patrons to check their food for roaches. Sara tells Isa to shut up. She’s making herself look like an arrabalera: common course person from the poorer areas. Isa calls her a zorra. Sara grabs a hunk of hair which proves Isa put the hair there herself. That opens up a can of offended whoop ass and they both give us a visual for desgreñar. Anto’s guards separate them. Sara asks Samuel to call the cops. Fidel tells Quintin to go take care of it. Sara and Isa go for round two.
(It did look like the actresses had some fun with the scene.)
Fin.
Gracias, Sara and Denise for all your entertaining words! This is such a fun show and the recaps sure did it justice :D
Denise, I especially want to thank you for having the guts to try your hand at recapping, and I really hope you keep doing it! You did an awesome job! And like Sara, I also love the vocabulary.
Dang...I am so over Isa. Before the restaurant incident, I was feeling sorry for her because of Antonio, but nope. Done now. She's horrid and she can get played by Ricardo for all I care. Which, really, she's doing that to herself. If she would quit being such a snob, she could actually be happy with him. And then she could go away and I could see more Sara-Antonio action!
I suppose Cheo has to go away for that to happen, as well. I don't like that Sara's finding him "charming" and thinking of taking him back. Has she forgotten already how many times recently she's had to tell him "I'm not your property"? Just because now he's all hearts and flowers and cheesy video messages doesn't erase that.
Thanks Sara for your recap and for being the glue that holds us together.
"they both give us a visual for desgreñar" Ha ha ha ha. Love that!
Diva, thanks for your kind words.
On that subject, I think I could do a recap on Tuesday. Sara, would that work?
The next few weeks are going to be somewhat hairy for me, but after that I'd like to help with recaps...or baby recaps...or summaries including copious amounts of rocket jokes....
Whenever you can, let me know. And as a general statement, I want this to be fun and stress free so even if it's just a few lines about the biggest events that's good too.
Think most of us talking have a pretty good understanding of Spanish, so I hope that anyone lurking will be OK with the possibly minimalist recaps that will follow in the coming weeks.
As soon as Isa opened her mouth and treated Chepe like gum on her shoe when she arrived at the apartment building, I was done with her. We have so far only heard her snobby/outdated ideas about class, but up to now have only seen her interact with people of her own class, and she's perfectly pleasant. But now we've seen how she treats people who are "lower" class, and it's not pretty. Not feeling bad for her now, at all. Let her get suckered by toothpick at the table using Ricardo.
