La Vecina-Highlights and Discussion #35-39 Aug. 10-14
I'm back to work! I don't foresee being able to do a recap until Wednesday. Please feel free to discuss to your heart's content.
Here are a few things from last week....
Simon and Bruno
From Vivi: A look at the last names on the Spanish Wikipedia cast list shows that Padre Vicente is Sara's deceased father's brother, and Simon is her mother's brother. Bruno has a totally different last name than all of them, but that doesn't mean he couldn't have been related to Simon's dead wife.
El Molcajete
Pablo is selling the restaurant to punish Laura. He asks Sara for an inventory. Sara has found invoices for furniture and things that don't seem to exist. Will Sara uncover something she's not supposed to uncover?
The Two Dead Guys
One is Carlos the other is a random body that showed up early on. Pablo's modus operandi seems to be making it look like a drunk accident. Who was the unidentified body? What did he do to get himself killed?
The Farmers Collective
All we know for sure is the farmers are going to pay x% to Bruno and Simon. Simon is worried about making loan payments. Pablo thought is was too little. Will Simon and Bruno be successful? Will they be able to repay the loan?
Isa
Is no longer remotely likable. Will we start feeling bad for Ricardo at some point?
Laura and Bruno
According to the opening credits, these two are going to get together at some point. How will that happen?
Chepe
Why does he keep sweeping that parking lot? It's holes with dirt!

Next: Episodes 40-44

Sara and Isabel continue to try to desgreñar (dishevel/rip each other’s hair out) each other in El Molcajete (The Pestle). Both the police and Antonio are called and arrive to find the bodyguards trying to keep the ladies apart. Antonio wants to just pay the damages and take Isa out of there, but Police Officer Quintin says they still need to be detained. As they all head to the police station, Sara asks Samuel to use her cell phone to call her Uncle Simon.
Sara and Isa are force to share a jail cell and continue to trade insults. Fidel, through his gastrointestinal distress, gives Antonio wise advice to respect BOTH women and give them both their place—he’s needs to tread carefully. When Tonio goes to the cells, he doesn’t take sides, but is firm about paying for the damages to the restaurant, despite Sara saying she’ll take care of it herself. Simon arrives, and Sara turns down Tonio’s offer to pay her fine, in addition to Isa’s. She says Simon will pay for it. When Tonio leaves, Simon admits he doesn’t have any money on him to pay, but he’ll call Bruno who call bring the money. Isa smirks.
At the Church, Padre Vincente retakes his conversation with Laura about doing something with her time, instead of just dedicating all of it to Pedro. He mentions an idea he has for starting literacy classes for the old. Laura loves the idea. She used to want to be a teacher…but then she met Pedro…Bruno arrives to pick Padre up for soccer practice. Awkward sexual tension ensues between him and Laura, but Padre cluelessly prattles on about the literacy classes. Bruno gets the call from Simon about Sara being in jail, and the three head to the jail in Laura’s car.
Tonio pays the fine and leaves the check for Sara for the restaurant damages. Isa, seeing an opportunity to hold something over Sara, tells Tonio that Simon doesn’t have money to pay Sara’s fine, and asks Tonio to pay. He does, and they leave. When Sara learns about what Isa did, she is NOT pleased. Vicente, Laura, and Bruno arrive just as Sara and Simon are leaving, and get the whole story. Laura offers to take Sara back to the restaurant, while Simon takes Vicente and Bruno to soccer practice. Simon and Vicente have an uncle spat over who is best suited to watch over Sara and give her love advice. They agree it might be best for her to return to Progreso. After soccer practice, Bruno and Javi decide Isa needs to be taught a lesson for what she did to Sara. They plot.
Antonio and Isa drive back to the apartment, and she bitches at him about taking Sara’s side, and how Sara is a man-stealing slut. Tonio defends Sara, as he remembers how nobly she offered to pay for the damages herself, and shuts down Isa’s insults. He drops her off at the apartment and goes back to work. In the office, the gossip is already spreading about the fight. Rafa can barely contain a smile as he asks Tonio how everything turned out. But Rafa does try to discourage Marina from spreading the gossip when he catches her on the phone with ALL the guys at Conatrol talking about it. Yeah, that ship has sailed, Rafa. All the guys admire the fact that Tonio has TWO women fighting over him. Wow!
While they drive back to the restaurant, Sara tells Laura about her and Antonio’s frustrated love affair, and how she fell for him not knowing his relationship with Isa was that serious or long-standing. Pedro is at the restaurant when they arrive, and isn’t very sympathetic to hear that Isa provoked the fight. He scolds Sara for causing such a scene, and adds it as another reason why it’s good he’s selling the restaurant. At home, he pumps Laura for the info on Sara and Antonio, and gives her permission to join Padre Vicente in teaching literacy. He then calls Nelson to see if he has any more gossip on the Sara-Tonio-Isa triangle (no), and if the pump for the gas colorant has arrived (no, again). Nelson says he’ll inform Pedro as soon as he knows.
Luckily, Antonio smartly believes there is a snitch in the plant, and calls Sebastian to arrange to him to personally take care of the pump, and to tell NO ONE about it.
Isa’s dad calls. She tells him she hasn’t had the chance to ask him about the investment his father solicited.
Cheo sends Sara another pic of himself with a sign. This time, he’s shirtless, and the sign says: “Who’s your king?” Sara laughs and sends him a thank you, signing off with “besos” (kisses). Seriously, Sara? Whenever I see a profile like this on Match.com, I reject/block/delete it. Thankfully, Cheo can’t risk his job anymore, and must wait till Sunday to stalk Sara in San Gaspar.
At the apartment building, Sara is determined to give Isa back the money Tonio paid for the fine. Simon tries to talk her out of it, but she goes anyway. Isa calls Sara a golfa (slut) and tears up the money in her face. She really tore up good money, people! Simon comes to diffuse the situation and take Sara back to their apartment. Isa smirks happily as she closes the door. Sara is in tears and says to Simon that Tonio thinks she’s a golfa. Simon says that is NOT true. That’s just Isa being a beyotch, and Sara doesn’t have to prove herself to anyone—she knows who she is. But what IS obviously true is that Antonio does NOT love Sara, and Sara needs to accept that. He has brought her nothing but trouble. Sara goes to her room in tears. Simon hates to have been so harsh, but feels it needed to be done.
After work that evening, Antonio avoids heading home to Isa, and instead has a beer with Nachito at his fonda (small restaurant). They commiserate about the women they don’t want to go home to. Nachito says he puts up with his difficult wife because of the kids (and even he has limits), but he wonders why Antonio, being so young, puts up with it. Why would he want to spend his life with someone who brings him problems, instead of peace?
Vivi, your comment about Cheo's message cracked me up! That was, uh, a little skeevy. What's he going to take off next? *shudder*
"She really tore up good money, people!" Who does that?! OK, Isa, obviously. Dislike!
No rockets today? :(
To start -thanks Denise for your recap that I accidentally interrupted last week - what a thing to happen to your first recap, sorry, but it was still great.
And, Isa has totally lost my sympathy too and I'm not worried about her anymore
Thanks sara for Fri's recap - I was ff - ing the chickfight so missed all the dialog there and your funny comments about it almost made me wish I'd watched it, almost (I'm a wimp, I don't like hair pulling)
Thanks Vivi for your fun recap - your recaps are some of my favorite to read, you get it all, and you say it, and I like it.
I know, who tears up money? Even if you have money, tearing it up just to be b!7**%y is stupid.
I recapped a couple of times for Tierra de Reyes and I'd like to do some here, but the problem is that if I'm not able to get here to do it, I also wouldn't be able to let anybody know I couldn't do it. It'd be a catch as catch can situation
Ok Antonio, can you say hello to the Ghost of Christmas Future? He's right there in front of you - his name's Nacho Lopez.
Think carefully man
ProtaSara ay girl I know Cheo is funny but you cannot keep encouraging him like this just because you're sad and alone - its not fair to him (not that I care that much about him) and its just making it harder to get rid of him.
He's just going to be a nightmare for you if he keeps this up
Do yourself a favor honey let him go.
Vivi, again thanks for the recap. Concise and yet full of information.
Scene with Sara and Laura in the car: Laura again expresses how one should not allow a man to humiliate a person. I'm thinking the writers are definitely in on the irony. I am possibly Capitan Obvious here.
There is just not enough education that yeah, abusive people can't be identified on sight, and sometimes, sure, they do really good things, but that doesn't mean they're not abusive. He's been gaslighting her for a long time, telling her it's all her fault and acting like a nice, normal guy when anyone else who's not one of his henchmen is around.
Good points you're making,Diva and Vivi.
You are reminding me of when el Padre questioned Laura's asking permission to attend the fund-raiser. So we know he is sensitive about the subjugation of women.
sneaky-It's always wonderful to see you when you can make it. I hope your internet situation gets fixed soon. I enjoyed your recaps of Tierra de Reyes.
Denise-I've got you down for today and thank you so much!
Diva/5ft-Could you do Thursday?
I can do Wednesday.
EVERYONE: I thoroughly enjoyed all your comments about Laura and Pedro. Count me as one of those who thinks that Pedro will need to die in order for Laura to be happy.
Also, am I an evil person? I heartily approve of Bruno and Javi plotting to get back at Isa.
Isa just needs to go back to her peeps in D.F. Being around middle class people, and her rival, brings out the worst in her.
Bruno and Javi border on juvenile, but I like them all the same. Plus their last prank got me Drunk!Antonio dancing around the living room to opera, so....
It's not like the restaurant is going to be shuttered, right? It is going to be sold, so maybe there will still be some jobs there.
And yeah I agree with the people who think there's no way out for her except Pedro's death, poor, poor Laura.
I'm halfway through today's episode. Pitufo (smurf) is one of my favorite words. It's quite useless, but I feel pretty happy that I know it.
If she hadn't been so awful I might even feel sorry for Isa
Ant. and Nacho talk discuss how neither one wants to go home to a demanding partner. Nacho advises Ant. to really think about if he wants to tie himself to such a person on a permanent basis.
Back at Ant.’s apartment Isabel is bored. She “marca”(dials) Natalia’s number, but she doesn’t answer. Isa then texts Ricardo. We see him accompanied by some nameless arm candy. He thought bubbles, “She’s alone on a Friday night. Aha!” Isa changes Ric’s contact name to “Rita Suárez” to avoid having anyone recognize the name. She wishes Ant. had sent her the thoughtful message that the “hipócrita” Ric. sent her.
Emma y Eduardo discuss the delay in the response to their loan application. Emma suggests that Ed use his influence with Isa’s dad, but he does not want to cause suppositions of improprieties.
Simón’s phone rings. It’s el Padre Vicente. How is Sara, bla bla bla. They hang up and Simon answers a knock at the door. It’s Antonio. Simon let’s him know that he does not intend to stand by while Ant. keeps torturing Sara. Simon is borderline menacing.
Ant. enters his apartment and demands to know why Isabel keeps provoking Sara. She asks him what he was told about their last dust up. He says that he doesn’t have any details, but to quit it. Isa changes the subject and asks Ant. if he is aware of the financial troubles of his parents.
Bruno arrives at the apartment and Simon inquires about what he has in a plastic bag. “Nothing,” says Bruno,” I was just going to paint some tee shirts and some jeans.” (Oh boy. Here it comes!) Simon talks about the latest re: Sara and Isa.
Ant. demands to know why Isa thinks his parents are having financial difficulties.
“Because they are applying for a loan at my Dad’s place of business.”
“I have no idea what their financial situation is, and why do you care?”
“Because my Dad wants to make sure they are not taking advantage of our relationship for their gain.”
“My parents are no “arribistas”! (social climbers)...”
Ant. calls his Dad and asks about his economic situation. Eduardo says things aren’t that bad; he just needs some capital.
Isabel enters the bedroom and says she should leave and go to a hotel. Ant. says that won’t be necessary and that his parents aren’t that bad off, and no, she doesn’t want Isa to pull any strings for his parents. They kiss.
Magda comforts Fidel in his hour of need. He is still suffering the effects of the “laxante” that he put in the orange that he ate. He doesn’t want to go to the doctor because they always want to fix everything with shots! And he is not going to miss the big game because “something inside him tells him they are going to win. (His stomach rumbles.) LOL
Laura says to Pedro that she is going to the church to help prepare for the “bazar,” and Pedro announces that he will take her. He changes his mind when Sara calls and says that the “balance” (profit and loss statement, I think) is ready.
He opts to go to the restaurant.
Apparently it’s Saturday b/c Isa brings Ant. breakfast in bed and says she is looking forward to spending the weekend with him. What should they do?
He outlines an agenda that includes strolling around town, looking at the “artesanías” (crafts) and eating someplace. “Just as long as it’s not El Molcajete,” says Isa.
Bruno takes his leave of Simon, saying he’s going to Javi’s to dye the pants since Javi has a great “tinota” (Your guess is as good as mine.)
At the “fut” field: the players say Fidel doesn’t look too good. Quintín pretends to not feel well either. Fidel sends him for more “laxantes.”
Javi and Bruno are putting “anilina” (um, don’t know) in Ant.’s water tank. Bruno is sure it’s enough.
Merce shows up at Simon’s apt. She thought Sara seemed sad the last time she talked to her.
Laura arrives at the church to help el Padre prepare for the “bazar.” Quintín walks by and gloatingly tells Vicente that Fidel has a special strategy to win this year. El Padre retorts that if he hasn’t recruited Ronaldho or Messi, he doesn’t see how that is going to happen.
Bruno and Javi enter the apt. where Merce and Simon ask them what they have been up to. Simon is very suspicious and asks if they have done something to “el ingeniero.” (Antonio)
Pedro arrives at the restaurant and is impressed with the excellent profit and loss and inventory that Sara has prepared. He sees that the profits are impressive at which point Sara questions why he would sell the business. He cuts her off saying that subject is not up for discussion.
Merce and Simon insist that Bruno and Javi go immediately to Antonio to confess what they have done. They protest, but they head for the door.
Ant. and Isa are relaxing in bed. He’s reading the newspaper. She sees that no action is happening, so she heads off to take a shower. From the bathroom she calls out, “Antonio, te amo!” Instead of saying “te amo” back to Isa, Antonio goes on a little mental trip, remembering his night of amor with Sara, and how she called “Te amo” to him. His little love dream is interrupted by the doorbell. Of course it’s Bruno and Javi at the door. Just as they start to explain, Isa bellows, “Antoniooooo !!!!!!”
Isabel appears covered in blue dye. The boys eyes widen. Isabel is sure that this is the work of Sara! The guys deny any knowledge of what has happened. Then why did they come over? Just to invite Ant. to a “fut” match. See ya!
Isa is sure this is Sara’s doing. Ant. tells her to leave Sara in peace and to let him help her clean up. As she turns towards the bathroom, Ant. tries to stifle a grin.
Back at Simon’s, the guys confess that they were too late. We expect a “regañada”(scolding) from Simon and Merce, but these two can’t help bursting out laughing.
At Ant.’s, nothing seems to be effective at taking off the blue dye. Isa is sure the guys did it! She could see them suppressing a laugh! Antonio says, well, who wouldn’t – you look like an Avatar!
Antonio finds Simon and Merce in the hallway, and he asks them what he can use to get the blue off of Isa. Simon suggests paint thinner. Ewwwww! After Ant. goes back into his apt., Merce says that thinner is not a good idea since it stings.
Simon says that it will be okay as long as they don’t use water afterwards. (Uh oh.)
Ant. phones down to Chepe and asks him to clean out the tinaco and to go get some thinner for him. (Dang. I want a Chepe!)
At the fútbol field: Fidel and Quintín are still euphoric planning the downfall of the Salados.
At the church: Bruno and Javi finally arrive to help. Bruno and Laura catch sight of each other. Googly eyes commence.
Chepe comes to Ant.’s apt to tell him that he managed to clean the tinaco. The bad news is that now Chepe is blue also.
At the church, el Padre Vicente explains that the money that is earned at the “bazar” will be used to fly in 3 oftamólogos (I don’t know how to spell it in English apparently.) who will attend to the community at no cost to the people. People arrive and begin to shop.
Merce goes to the restaurant to see Sara. Sara laments that don Pedro still wants to sell even though business is so good. Merce offers that it must be God’s will. Then Merce tells Sara about Bruno and Javi turning Isa into an Smurf.
Good laughs all around. Merce reminds Sara that she must stop with these confrontations. “It takes two to make a fight.” Sara agrees, reminding herself that Antonio doesn’t even love her.
Chepe drops off the thinner at Ant.’s. He turns down Ant.’s offer of some of the thinner, knowing that that stuff burns.
At the bazar Bruno offers to show Laura how to get more sales. After he demonstrates his skills, Laura says, “¡Eres un tramposo!” (a trickster). “It’s for a good cause,” he says, defending himself.
Ant. and Isa start using the thinner to remove the blue paint. She is thrilled that it is working.
Simon comes to the bazar, sees Edwina and asks her what books she is checking out. She says that they are books about physics, but Simon questions this pointing out a poetry book by Amado Nervo.
Isabel is so relieved to be rid of most of the blue paint. But then she starts to feel “irritada.” She’s sure a quick shower should take care of this.
Natalia calls. Antonio answers, but then Isabel lets out a scream.
El Padre is organizing items to sell when he catches sight of the Jaibolera and gives it a kiss. He answers the door and lets in another volunteer who follows his instructions to carry some more items out to the bazar area. Uh oh. She picks up the joy of his life – La Jaibolera!
At Ant.’s, a doctor prescribes a gel to soothe Isabel’s “quemadura” (burn). Antonio will have to go downtown to obtain it.
At the bazar, the volunteer sells Vlad the beloved trophy for 40 pesos!
Isa tells Natalia her troubles on the phone. Natalia says to come home already.
El Padre lets out a grito when he sees that Vlad has bought the Jaibolera!
¡Ya!
Simon was totally menacing when Tonio dropped by to see Sara. He's little, but don't mess with his niece!
At the end, it was because the Bishop came to visit that Vicente ran off without securing his soccer cup. When he grabbed the cup from Vladmir, the Bishop intervened and gave Vladmir back the cup, since he had paid for it, fair and square. All Padre could do was pout. His boss had spoken.
Wow, the sparks were flying between Laura and Bruno. "Googly eyes" indeed. I'm SO glad Pedro wasn't anywhere around to see that.
I can't believe that lady didn't realize that was the Jaibolera! It has a plaque on the bottom and everything.
"We expect a “regañada”(scolding) from Simon and Merce, but these two can’t help bursting out laughing." Smurfette had everyone rolling by the end of the show. I feel bad for her getting burned, but Vivi's right, how did she not know? I'm sure she's used paint thinner before.
I like that Antonio's dad was trying to go through regular channels to get his loan instead of hitting up Isa's dad directly, but it baffles me why Isa's dad would interpret that the other way around.
Diva, I so agree with you about Antonio's dad.
And I still, for the life of me, can't figure out why Isa would want to be stuck with Emma as her mother-in-law, on top of dealing with reserved Antonio who doesn't get her motor running. Well, I know why, but her insistence on focusing on social class seems more and more ridiculous every day. Seriously, just tell Ricardo not to use a toothpick at the table and get over it!
According to wordreference.com anilina es un Líquido tóxico artificial que se obtiene por reducción del nitrobenceno y que se emplea, sobre todo, como colorante.
In English it's "aniline" .
I was ok with the adding dye to the tinaco. But not so keen on the thinner. Though the reminder that Isa the painter should have known makes me feel less sorry for her.
Sneaky- I guess pitufo and pitufina (Smurfette) aren't useless words, but they don't come up in conversation much (at least in my experience.) I seem to have a knack for retaining somewhat useless words and forgetting useful words.
I had several laugh out loud moments while I watched yesterday. This show is good for my soul right now.
Thanks to everyone who is helping and participating!
You're my inspiration, Sara!
I'm flattered that I am your inspiration. I am still working at being as good as Kat, Vivi, Lila, Eli and hellashelle!
Denise, I know it's frustrating to have the typos and not being able to go back and correct them. I think we all understand that, though :D And sometimes autocorrect comes through and gives us something even more hilarious than planned!
Lol, Sara, the funny thing is, we all have such different strengths, so you're admiring me for one thing and I'm admiring you for another. My summarization skills and my memory are nowhere near as good as yours or Vivi's! I only recap so fast because I type fast. If not for that, I'd be taking waaaaay too long, because I feel like I just HAVE to get every last conversation in there.
AND AND AND (I'm like shaky chihuahua excited!)
THERE'S A LA VECINA ALBUM ON ITUNES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 18 TRACKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The obispo hands “La Jaibolera” (soccer trophy) over to Vladimir and Padre Vicente holds in a whimper. Vladimir gives the trophy back to Padre Vicente. What a great kid! Padre V is so happy to have his “baby” back. The obispo wants to see Padre V in the parrish house. The onlookers do the hand signal for “ay pobre de Padre is in trouble!”
Bruno gives Vladimir another, smaller trophy. Laura sees it and finds it charming. Yet another reason to like Bruno.
Edwina asks Simon if he and his late wife ever thought of having children. They did. Once. *sniff* Poor Simon.
The obispo gives Padre V a lecture about being too attached to a physical object and taking soccer too seriously. The trophy is just a piece of metal. Padre V has to learn to control his impulses. The obispo has heard rumors that Padre V loses his head on the soccer field. Padre V will work harder at controlling himself. Meanwhile, the obispo says Padre V should consider himself amonestado (reprimanded.) Padre V imagines the obispo giving him a yellow card.
Sara, Merce, Bruno and Simon talk about Isa and the blue dye prank. Sara has a headache so she heads for the pharmacy.
Antonio is also at the pharmacy picking up Isa’s gel. He sees Sara. She’s in imminent danger. Antonio yells out to warn her and steps out in front of the bread delivery bike. Everyone is ok. Antonio has his guards pay for the bread. Sara heads back to the church without getting anything for her head.
The obispo leaves and warns Padre V that he doesn’t wasn’t anymore problems on account of soccer. Padre V grumbles after he leaves.
Antonio brings Isa’s meds. He tries to apply the gel, but he’s not gentle enough. Isa asks about his pants. He lies and says he tripped outside the pharmacy.
Vladimir, Edwina and Magda come home. Fidel asks his sister if she’s still mad. She claims she isn’t, but it sure felt a little cold in that living room. Magda still seems a little annoyed with his macho big brother stunt, too.
Isa wants Antonio to talk to her father about the loan Antonio’s father applied for. Antonio doesn’t want to do that. His father wants to follow the proper procedure so as NOT to be accused of using Antonio’s relationship with Isa to get the loan.
Laura and Bruno are packing up what is left of the bazaar. Pedro calls. He’s annoyed because he thought she would be home by now. She promises to finish up and come straight home. Bruno offers to finish so she can leave. She shakes Bruno’s hand, but he pulls her closer for a kiss on the cheek. I found that incredibly risky. After she leaves, Bruno wonders why Laura is with a guy like Pedro.
Merce, Sara and Padre V discuss the sale of El Molcajete. Merce and Sara come up with the idea that Sara could buy the restaurant. It’s a great business now. Just imagine how it will do with a little effort and creativity.
Sara asks Bruno where Laura is. Since she already left, Sara calls her. She wants to come talk to Pedro. Laura will let him know.
Isa talks to her father about the loan Antonio’s father applied for (what is Antonio’s dad’s name?) She explains that he doesn’t want anyone to think they are calling in favors. After she gets off the phone, she and Ant discuss dinner. He’ll go pick up something. She doesn’t care what. The only thing she wants is to spend time with him and fell like she didn’t waste her time coming to San Gaspar.
Merce and Padre V say goodbye to Bruno and Javi. Padre V wants them to get a good night’s sleep. Bruno and Javi have one quick thing they need to do first. (Which turns out to be putting a large speaker in Fidel’s garden. They keep him up all night with the recorded sounds of a cat meowing.)
Sara discusses selling the restaurant with Pedro. She would like to buy it. He’s wanting at least 300 mil pesos for it. ($18,000?) After Sara leaves, Laura asks if he can drop the price some, but business is business.
Isa sleeps and Antonio goes to the kitchen to get water. Isa’s phone is on the counter. Ant sees the message from “Rita Suarez”. Can I call you. I need to know how you are. I’m going to do something crazy if you don’t get in touch. Antonio wakes up Isa. She explains that Rita is a friend of the gallery owner’s daughter. She’s an obsessive maniac who has no one else to bother. Antonio is going to work in the living room. Isa says she just wants to sleep. She sneaks to the bathroom to call “Rita” after Antonio leaves.
Sara tells Simon and Merce about her visit to Pedro’s. He wants 300 mil pesos! Even with her severance pay and savings she doesn’t have 50 mil. Merce asks Simon about a loan. As long as she has collateral she should be able to get one. Merce will put up her house for collateral. Sara thanks her mother.
Isa talks to Ricardo. They miss each other. She’s so happy to hear him.
Sara and Antonio are both out on their balconies (and yes, this song is on the album.) She turns to go back in, but Antonio stops her. She doesn’t want any problems with his novia. He says she’s sleeping. That doesn’t matter to Sara.
Fidel. Recorded cats. Shoes. Lots of shoes. The next day he’s out looking for the shoes Magda wants to wear when he discovers the speaker. I can’t even. Dude. You do NOT throw a woman’s shoes out a window. You’re lucky Magda isn’t divorcing you. Fidel calls Quintin and tells him to buy more laxative and inject the oranges.
Isa makes fun of “Toño’s” soccer jersey. She’s not going because she doesn’t want to get out in the sun. She gives him kisses before he leaves.
Out in the parking lot, Sara and the gang are all getting ready to go to the game. She’ s pretty good on the drum. Antonio comes out. Bruno cracks “You finally dress like a human and you wear *that* shirt?” Te va a dar roña (It’s going to give you scabies/mange hahahahahaaha!!!!!!!!) Antonio is taunted by the Fanáticos Alados as he drives away.
Let the soccer game begin!! So.much.fun!!!
Edwina chooses to sit with Simon. Quintin calls her a traitor.
At the apartment, Isa tells Natalia that she’s needing Ricardo more and more. When Natalia asks her why she doesn’t just break up with Antonio, Isa says she can’t do that. There’s something that keeps her with Antonio. More So know that the Vecina is between them. When Natalia finds out Isa is at home and Antonio is at the same soccer game as Sara, she advises her friend to put on a hat and go to the game. Don’t let Ant out of your sight!!
At the game, Antonio fantasizes that Sara is getting the crowd to cheer for him (“give me and A….”) and blows him a kiss.
Ricardo calls Lic Uribe and convinces him to send him to San Gaspar….tomorrow. He uses the excuse of wanting to know more about the dye injection system and process.
I really didn’t keep up with who was scoring.
Cheo and Roque are on their way to San Gaspar. Apparently he thinks a papier mache cow is a great surprise. He’s driving like madman to there before the game is over.
A bad call from the ref gives Quintin an opportunity to switch out the hieleras (coolers). Padre V’s oranges with Fidel’s gut bomb oranges.
Isa asks Chepe to call her a cab to take her to the soccer fields.
Guillermo (Isa’s dad) calls Antonio’s dad (Eduardo!) Can he come to the office and discuss the loan? Eduardo will be there with bells on. Unfortunately, he thinks Antonio actually talked to Guillermo.
Sara gets text from Cheo. He wants her to come out and see the surprise he brought.
Isa texts Antonio. She’s on her way to the field. Can Antonio come out and wait for her?
Sara and Antonio are both outside waiting for their respective “mates.”
Fin.
Thank you for getting that scene where Bruno was picking on Antonio in the parking lot. I just could not make out that last word!
I loved his little fantasy that Sara was cheering for him. It's so annoying, though, that he doesn't see this as any kind of a sign. It's not like he ever fantasizes about Isa!
I'm actually looking forward to Ricardo showing up and throwing a wrench in things.
I laughed out loud when Fidel found the speaker and it meowed at him.
So does el Padre Vicente wear a little padding on his tummy to get that paunch? Sometimes it looks natural, and sometimes it looks like a little pillow.
Like Edwina, I'm torn about which team to root for. I like players on both teams.
Did you notice that Roque was hearing a neon pink shirt and Cheo was wearing a neon green shirt.
Yeah, bring on Slick Rick, if it's going to shake things up for Isa.
The actor playing Fidel...Arturo Carmona. I've only seen him in the CCEA DVD and I didn't like him. I am really liking him here.
I know I'm harping on it, but I am really enjoying this show. Except for the Pedro/Laura story, it's just a lot of cute fun with characters that I like (ok, except Isa and Pedro.)
My only concern about Slick Ric (good one) being in San Gaspar is his possible meeting up with Pedro. Ric needs money and he'll have info Pedro wants.
I wonder how much Ricardo makes? It seems like he would be making enough money to upgrade his lifestyle a bit if he wanted to. But like all bad guys he probably wants the baller life.
I'm really liking the Fidel/Magda/Vladimir family unit. And I also had a laugh with the whole shoe thing, Magda yelling at Fidel that he better find her shoe.......she had him jumping!
If I liked Isabel she would have my sympathy for the way Antonio treats her without any affection. But she has said that he's always been lukewarm so I suppose she doesn't know anything different. And she has Ricardo's slimy kisses to keep her warm at night. That's probably where my sympathy should really go.
jlk
Am I correct that Ric is NOT in on the gas thefts? If so, he is a redeemable character & maybe suitable for Isa, they belong together. And he was really cute & sweet in DQTQTQ
Is it just me or is Padre Vicente not a very good priest? (I'm not catholic, so what would I know)
He's a great coach and really good at soccer and he seems like a good friend to all his parishioners but he seems slightly uncomfortable praying/talking to God and spends a lot less time (at least screen time) on religious stuff, and the bishop didn't seem real happy with his performance.
Blessing the truck is the first religious thing I can remember seeing him do and he didn't seem all that comfortable doing it.
I guess he did go out to that guy's ranch to baptize a bunch of babies a couple of times but all we saw him do was eat and drink.
Maybe he's doin' the Lord's work all over the place and we never see it
I don't know, but he seems way more into soccer.
I really really hope they figure out what Fidel did and that he doesn't get away with it. The padre looked like he was about to burst a blood vessel.
Ricardo cute and sweet????? Now I definitely have to look up clips of DQTQTQ.

Outside the soccer field, Sara and Antonio establish that neither is stalking the other, just waiting for their respective, uh, significant others. Or not-super-significant in the case of Cheo.
Cheo got stopped for having "dangerous material"--the bull has some fireworks in it? I heard "cohetes" (rockets)!--in the back of the truck without a permit. He offends the cop by suggesting a bribe, then gives in once he verifies that his offense is having the bull *in the truck*. He leaves the truck behind, grabs the bull out of the back and he and Roque take off running down the street.
Random sniping at each other by Sara and Antonio comes to an end when Isa's cab pulls up. Sara heads back to the stands ASAP! Isa is predictably upset to see Sara there. But, really, where else would she be in San Gaspar on a Sunday when there's an important fútbol match?!
It's halftime and the teams gather on their respective sides of the field. Padre Vicente talks strategy while handing out oranges. Fidel gloats…until he sees Vladimir starting to take a bite…and then he has to explain his panic away with "he shouldn't be stealing your oranges. If he's thirsty, he can have water."
Isa throws a tantrum about how much it hurts her to see Antonio with Sara, except he wasn't with Sara, but then why didn't he stand farther away from her, blah, blah, blah, Isa's being a harpy and it's all Sara's fault. Antonio ends up agreeing to leave the game with Isa. The just miss the arrival of Cheo, Roque, and the bull.
As Fidel is explaining to Vladimir that he's supposed to be syping, not filching food, Cheo, Roque, and the bull take the center of the field. Roque holds the bull over his head and runs around while CGI-enhanced sparklers go off, to everyone's delight…except the Artilleros!
Back at Antonio's place, since they're both agreed that this relationship is NOT working, Antonio says he'll take the blame, but it's over.
The second half of the game is underway. Vladimir is pouty. Cheo is hopeful, but a kiss is interrupted by one of the Alados falling over with "calambre" (cramps). Vicente tries to rearrange his players, but he's out of subs…through the pain, the player suggests pulling Simon out of the stands. Fidel and Quintin don't think this will be enough to help the Alados win.
Isa whines that she wants to fix things, but not only does Antonio think it's too late, because they've both "changed"…he has come to the conclusion that she didn't come to San Gaspar because she "needs" him, she came because she wanted to quiz him about the loan. (She kinda did, didn't she?) Isa blames Sara again, but now Antonio's suggesting they focus on talking about themselves so they can decide "if" they're going to stay together. No que it's over?
The oranges are slowly starting to work. Guys start running for the bathroom. Ramon (Arilleros) manages to score a goal and celebrates with a cartwheel and a full backflip. Meanwhile, in the bathroom, all the stalls but one have a "Fuera de Servicio" (out of order) sign. [Insert annoyed recapper glare here.] Padre Vicente decides he'll have to play. The ref refuses to let Vicente sub for Javi, but Fidel talks him into it…you know, 'cause he's so fair. As he pulls on his jersey, Sara and her mom start up the cheer "A Padre/Vicente/Lo quiere toda la gente" (everybody loves Padre Vicente). Padre Vicente dominates the field, ends up getting past a frozen Bruno, and kicks the ball way over the goal. When he turns around, everyone is quiet, staring at the entire Alados team writhing on the ground in pain. Fidel, of course, is smirking.
Isa wants in, Antonio wants out. He blames her unpleasant behavior. She insists she'll never back off on Sara, basically confirming his statement. Well, ok, but the thing is, Antonio, if you want out then just say you want out--who cares about blame?
The game ended in a tie, but the Alados couldn't finish, therefore, according to league rules, the Artilleros are awarded the win. Padre Vicente and Simon try to argue to finish the game some other time, and Simon really goes off on the ref, blaming him for an earlier bad call.
Antonio sends his bodyguards to get some dinner…he really wants one of those chickens they sell out on the highway on the way to Progreso. He sneaks out when he sees them leaving.
The suffering of the Alados continues in the bathroom, made worse by the cheers of the Artilleros fans outside. Padre Vicente remembers Fidel stopping Vladimir from eating the orange and asks the guys who had an orange. It's pretty clear to him what happened. He walks out onto the field with the cooler and accuses Fidel of being a "tramposo" (a cheat). He offers Fidel an orange half and challenges him to eat it…to Magda's relief, Fidel makes a big show of taking huge bites out of the orange.
Merce and Simon are bummed and don't want to go out for coffee with Cheo, but Sara agrees. Roque goes to get the truck out of impound.
The Artilleros keep celebrating and Fidel still seems to be feeling fine. He demands that Padre Vicente apologize in front of everybody…and then reminds him that they had a bet. Almost as soon as Padre Vicente is off the field, Fidel's celebrating gets a little less…bouncy….
Antonio was hoping to visit his mentor Nacho, but he's still out at the game.
Meche and Simon talk about Sara's love life. She just can't seem to stay away from Antonio, but he's brought her nothing but trouble.
Alados. Bathroom. Suffering.
Party at Fidel's house! Quintin asks Fidel how he's doing, but Fidel thinks maybe all of Magda's "remedios" (could be medicines or folk remedies) made him immune to the…wait, not so fast! It kicks in and Fidel is forced to toast with the guys instead of making a run for it.
Sara tells Cheo she likes all the things he's been doing lately and he takes this as a sign to ask for another chance with her. He's kissing her at some outdoor café as Antonio walks up, sees them, and his (needlessly) confused heart breaks again. Antonio leaves and Sara tells Cheo to cool it. She seems somewhat flattered and somewhat embarrassed that Cheo loudly declares to the entire café that he's in love with her.
As Antonio continues wandering around, upset, on his own, he ignores a call from his bodyguards.
They bring the chicken to Antonio's place and find out from Isa that he gave them the slip. She's furious.
Padre J fixes Javi and Bruno a special tea to help their guts…best not to ask what's in it. They're still convinced there was something in the oranges. Padre Vicente is determined to fulfill the terms of the bet. While Javi runs to the bathroom again, Padre Vicente talks to Bruno about teaching people how to grow their own vegetable gardens. Bruno explains about how you can grow hydroponically (without soil) in less space.
Simon calls Edwina to ask her about helping Meche with a loan. She's still at Fidel and Magda's place, but everyone is leaving and she wants to run to the bookstore for some aeronautics books before the close. Fidel is "still" in the bathroom.
Simon is going to collect the paperwork and send it to Meche first thing tomorrow. She's really happy he's found a just-a-friend who shares the same interests. Sara and Cheo get back to the apartment and Meche explains to Sara about the loan. Cheo starts trying to talk Meche out of it, but Meche has faith in her daughter and has no worries that she'll be able to pay back the loan.
Quique and Rafa have dinner at home and talk about the movie they saw earlier, that seems to have something to do with being at the bottom of the sea. Quique makes a joke about not being able to hold his breath for that long. Rafa's phone rings--it's the bodyguards with the news that Antonio has disappeared. Quique offers to help look for him, then pitches a fit when Rafa turns him down, acting jealous of Antonio and warning Rafa that if his (Quique's) life is ever in danger that he hopes Rafa spends as much time looking for him. Oh, I hope that wasn't foreshadowing!
Rafa tries to talk to Fidel, but he's stuck in the bathroom. Magda passes on the message that if Antonio slipped away from his guards, he must have been tired of being followed. (You mean like that little red car seems to be following Rafa's company truck?) Fidel swears his current gastrointestinal distress has nothing to do with what happened to the Padre's team. He blames it on that torta from a few days ago…he must not be fully recovered. Even Vladimir questions him.
Sara and Meche go to do a little shopping before Roque arrives with the truck. Well, actually, she just wanted to talk to Sara alone…about Cheo. Sara says they're back together. Ugh!. Well, Meche just wants Sara to be happy, and asks if this isn't just because Antonio's girlfriend is around. Sara's reasons for getting back together with Cheo are "I have no reason to reject him, he loves me, I like him a lot, and it's not for nothing that we've been together for so long." [Insert annoyed recapper glare here.] Rafa comes up, frantic, looking for Antonio, and Sara is all set to run of looking for him. Meche reminds her it's not her place…especially if she's back with Cheo!
End of Thursday's episode!
sneaky two shoes, he's certainly a very different kind of priest, a lot more social than we usually see. I can see how his superiors might think he's not observing the proper decorum, but the people like him.
I just saw a travel show on PBS the other day on Mexico, where they showed people celebrating one of the festivals around Easter by running around with the fireworks bulls on their heads. It's apparently very dangerous, as you can imagine. But the danger is part of the "fun."
Really wish Sara hadn't gotten back with Cheo. But I really don't think it will take long for him to show his idiot/possessive streak. She'll be dumping him again sion enough.
I wish Tonio hadn't been so wishy washy in that discussion with Isa about breaking up. Just do it already, y ya!
Thank you, Vivi! I really thought when Antonio said it the first time, he meant it. Nacho, where are you! Somebody needs to talk some sense into that boy!
Or not-super-significant in the case of Cheo <-------- very true. He starting to get on my last nerve, he's set on a loop. Forgiveness, kisses, anger.
And like you said, Antonio gets his heart needlessly broken again.
I hope that Sara does become a successful restaurateur. At first I thought Antonio might offer her a loan and she'd go into business with him, but like this route better.
jlk
Thank you, jlk! I agree with with you, she'd do a great job running that restaurant and I would really like to see that.
Vivi, if Meche moves to San Gaspar, does Juancho have to come with her? Just asking....
I haven't seen the epi yet. Sad our prediction about Padro and Ric were spot on, but it was almost inevitable that our two bad guys would meet and fall in love, uhh...collaborate.
This is pretty short and sweet and, as usual, from memory. Football is upon us and the TV is getting hogged.
Nacho finds Antonio sitting alone on a park bench. He invites him for a tequilita. Antonio accepts and promptly gets drunk. In his drunken state, he decides he will just have to reconcile with Isa in order to forget Sara. Nacho thinks that’s a pretty stupid plan.
Meanwhile, Rafa and Sara are looking for Antonio.
Rafa gets in touch with Nacho and finds out Antonio’s general location, but it is Sara who finally stumbles upon him. She and Simon drag Antonio back to the apartment and Isa. Anto drunkenly mumbles multiple perdónames to Isa. He’ll love only her. Sara goes back to her apartment and cries.
Antonio keeps telling Isa he “has” to love her. It’s not in the least romantic. Like he’s psyching himself up for a colonoscopy. Ricardo shows up. Anto thinks he’s hallucinating.
The next day Anto doesn’t remember a thing. Isa confirms that Ricardo was at the apartment, though. Anto still wants to reconcile. Again, it had more of a “I have to have a colonoscopy” vibe.
Roque asks Cheo about Sara getting that loan to buy a restaurant. If it works out, Cheo and Sara will be looking at a long distance relationship. Cheo will think of something. Sara should be in Progreso. Go to hell, Cheo.
Juancho is a brat about the loan and putting the house up for collateral. Where are they going to live if they can’t pay it back? It’s always Sara, Sara, Sara.
Isa and Natalia mean girl. We are reminding again that Isa is a “Cisneros.” And no one can beat her. Anto will end up with Isa. He can’t end up with Sara.
Anto asks Sebastian to find out why Ric is in San Gaspar. Isa overhears Anto saying that Sara is back with “that idiot” Cheo and it really bothers him. She assumes (correctly) that that is the reason for the reconciliation.
Carmelo is not happy that the farmers are starting their own collective. When he signed on with Pedro, he thought things would be easier. Pedro tells him the farmers are NOT going to get their way. Stay calm and screw over the poor.
Ric goes back to Isa’s apartment and busts moves. She’s got it bad for Slick Ric.
Ric heads to El Molcajete for lunch. Now that I know Luis Gatica and Alfredo Gatica are so closely related, I can’t stop seeing the family resemblance. Today was mainly them meeting. Sara tells Pedro that Ricardo is a pretty important engineer at Conatrol.
Sara and Simon take the loan paperwork to the bank. Sara offers Pedro 210 mil pesos for the restaurant (before the loan has been approved.) Pedro agrees to take that and says she can pay the other 90 mil pesos as she goes. This does not seem like a good thing.
Guillermo turns down Eduardo’s request for a loan, but offers another alternative. They could be equal business partners. This also doesn’t give me a good feeling. I don’t know why, but I feel like there is something sketchy with Guillermo. I dearly love his voice, though.
Bruno talks to a farmer. The farmer feels like he’s finally seeing some profit from his labor.
Ric tries to get into the Conatrol offices in San Gaspar. The gate guard is a good worker. He asks for some sort of ID. He won’t let Ric in. Even after Ric threatens to get him fired, the guard says he’d rather be fired for not letting Ric in than doing his job poorly.
Padre Vicente shows up to make good on the bet. His priest collar looks so funny with the police uniform. He reminds Quintin to come to confession. It’s been a while. Fidel gives Padre V crosswalk duty at the most complicated corner in San Gaspar.
And for the life of me I can’t remember what happened right before the credits rolled….
And thank you for the info on the Gaticas. I'm going to have to pay closer attention next week and see if I can see a resemblance.
"It’s not in the least romantic. Like he’s psyching himself up for a colonoscopy." Word. Come on, Isa, you don't want a guy who's glumly making an effort to "love" you (and failing miserably).
"Cheo will think of something. Sara should be in Progreso. Go to hell, Cheo." With you on that, as well. I couldn't decide whether he was going to try to screw things up before she buys the restaurant or after. If he's focusing on "after" that's screwing with Meche and Juancho as well. Not cool, Cheo.
"Pedro agrees to take that and says she can pay the other 90 mil pesos as she goes. This does not seem like a good thing." *gulp* I'm scared!
The two dads going into business together. Not getting a good feeling about that either. For some reason, Isa's dad has always given off a slightly-shady vibe that I can't quite identify.
"Even after Ric threatens to get him fired, the guard says he’d rather be fired for not letting Ric in than doing his job poorly." Um, yeah, he's security. This is how you WANT him to do his job. Granted, he could have done better at keeping Cheo out back when he interrupted that test. But, see, the guy learned his lesson.
I agree, the priest collar with the uniform was giggle-worthy.
I'm really liking the character of el Padre Vicente. How did you guys like that part about convincing Quintín to go to confession? I'm wondering if that will happen.
Oh yeah, was it in the previews where Isabel overhears Antonio saying how he was getting back with her because Sara broke his heart or something to that effect?
Are they starting to show previews? For so long El Gordo y la Flaca started right after the credits. I never saw any previews. Cool. I didn't see Friday's previews.
esposos in DQTQTQ
Tonio really can't hold his liquor.
I see the resemblance between the Gaticas-- mainly in the eyes.
I know I'll be able to do Wednesday. Monday might be a highlight reel.
And yeah Sara your memory is awesome to recap from memory
I'd be ok without any more Tonio getting drunk scenes - there seems like a lot- maybe he should just accept that he can't hold his liquor and quit while he has brain cells left.
Sara I'm going to tentatively volunteer for next Thursday - it seems to be my best chance day, but I'll know more and try to let you know for sure later in the week.
When you say next Thursday do you mean August 20 or 27? Either one is awesome and will be much appreciated!
That's cool info about the uncle/nephew. Although I hate to think what hellish plans those two can come up with, I'm looking forward to seeing how they interact. I was laughing at the way they kind of snuck glances at each other.
Was Juancho adopted? Or did he not get enough attention growing up?? He seems to be missing that happy-go-lucky attitude Sara & and Mercedes have going.
I really wish they showed previews! I know they are often misleading but a little something to tide me over for the next episode would be satisfying.
jlk
jlk
I kind of like previews, but I tend to avoid talking about them because they seem to get more and more misleading. They've been terrible on Sombra. They've been better on Amores con trampa and I can't really tell on Yo no creo en los hombres. I know what you mean about a little something to tide you over, though!
