Muchacha Italiana Viene a Casarse #3 Thu 8/27/15 Volare Woe Woe

Sorry. I just have to link to a video of Domenico Modugno's performance of Volare on the Ed Sullivan show.

Heck, let's throw in Dean Martin for good measure.

Fiorella has accepted Vittorio Dragone's e-mail marriage proposal. Vittorio is over the moon! His whoops of joy are heard across the restaurant (La Dolce Vita by name) and Benito comes running. Vito is so happy! He's always wanted to marry an nice Italian girl! Benito suggests that Vittorio ask Fiorella to come to the clinic to meet him. Vittorio is confused by this, but Benito kindly explains that Vittorio will need to check himself into a botox clinic in order to look like the foto he sent to Fiorella. Benito thinks he should slow down, but the old man has already taken care of everything. And Benito called Vito a vetusto! HA! He's got a young bride winging her way to Mexico right now! Vito invites Benito to the wedding. He tells him to dress as a page and have expensive rings. Ok, I don't remember, did Benito say something in episodes 1 or 2 to the effect of "if this girl agrees to marry you I'll dress like an idiot at the wedding"?

Fiorella talks to her dad's picture and packs all her important things. She also says Vittorio thought of everything and checks things off the list. The most important thing is to tell Gianna.

Gianna is excited to be leaving the hospital. Fiorella doesn't have the nerve to tell her sister that she accepted the proposal and they are moving to Mexico.

At the ranch, the vultures dine. Abuela won't be coming down. Roxana assumes Eloisa won't be coming down until Pedro arrives and she asks Gael "Can't you tell we don't matter a centavo to that vieja?" The maid reminds Rox to be more respectful. Osvaldo finally arrives. They discuss Pedro's "business" trip which they make sound like a nookie trip. Federica makes a comment to Sonia about Osvaldo making similar trips, but Osvaldo denies such trips. When Pedro is away Osvaldo is in charge of the offices. Pedro is expected back tomorrow. Gael turns the conversation turns to Tio Sergio. He's not...sober? (Federica's suggestion), Gael finishes with "a morning person." They ask about seeing Eloisa, but Dante informs them that no one is to go up to her room and see her until Pedro arrives.

Fiorella brings Gianna home. The landlord stops Fiorella outside the house. She still owes him 1000 euros(?) She doesn't have it.

Inside, Gianna deletes Vittorio's email account.

Fiorella offers up everything but her virginity to settle the account. Thank heaven the landlord doesn't think of it. He settles for the computer instead. (He also threatens to call the police.)

Vittorio orders the staff around to make the restaurant perfect and romantic for the arrival of his bride. Benito does't want to be an ave de mal agüero (bird of bad omen)...but Vittorio shuts him up. Dude, just let me be happy and gozoso (joyful), even if it's for today only.

Tania wants to spend more time in Italia. She even mentions making an Italian baby. Pedro, ever the girlfriend denying romantic (sarcasm font ™ jlk), tells her to pack her suitcase. He's got to get back to bidnez in Mexico.

Gianna fusses at Fiorella in heavily accented Spanish. Again, Fiorella reminds us that Vittorio. thought of everything. They have to do something. They out of money and Gianna is sick. Vito is offering them a chance for a better life. Gianna doesn't want her sister making that sacrifice. Fiorella wants to leave before the landlord calls the police. She and Gianna cry together.

Aaand...they're off! First stop Napoli! Old buildings! Suitcases! Plane! In flight magazine! Take off! Fear of flying! Airline food! It's free! Turbulance! AHHHH!

Benito has several suits for Vito's approval. Vito rejects the purple (too bishopy) and settles for the black one (Benito thinks it's too funereal, but you gotta respect Vito's decisions.) Vito wants Benito's helping getting his house in order. Benito wonders if he'll get a little extra pay for that. Vito tells him no.

Boys' day at the spa! Facials! Big needles with brownish liquid! Wowza! Enrique Rocha has some serious chest hair! Vito Dragone doesn't do needles...he's out of there!

Seriously, this music is just gorgeous. (Scene in the plane at night.)

The girls arrive in the DF. Gianna wonders what's next. Fiorella explains they will go through customs and have their documents and bags checked. Gianna thinks that's going to take a long time and Vito is going to leave. Fiorella is sure he'll be there waiting! "With posters like in romantic movies?" Gianna asks.

Yup. Sort of. Benito just has two large pieces of paper with names. Vito wonders why Benito didn't pretty them up and add hearts or something. At least Vito has flowers. He orders Benito to hold the signs up higher.

Pedro and Tania have also arrived at the airport, she's going to head for the duty free shop. She'll catch up with Pedro.

Fiorella is busy having all the food in her suitcase confiscated. (Heeeey...Barilla!) She puts her purse down and Gianna's meds fall out. When the customs official finally lets them through, she doesn't notice the meds on the floor.

Benito and Vito continue waiting for Fiorella and Gianna. Benito is getting restless. He's hungry. How bout they grab a bite to eat. Vio gives him a stare. Benito starts to wonder: What if she didn't get on the plane? What if immigration detained her? What if...she changed her mind?

What if she's bumping into a hot, young stud on the escalator?

After the commercial break, Pedro asks if she's following him. They make their way down the escalator. Honestly, Pedro looks more annoyed and pissed than struck by love. Not sure how I feel about that. Tania sees them and calls his name. He looks up and misses seeing Gianna drag Fiorella away to look for Vito. Tan asks about the girl he was with. He says it's just someone he bumped into and he helped her. He asks Tan if she's jealous.

Now Benito is really concerned. Is Vito sure he's got the right terminal?? Vito goes to check. Yup. This is flight fro Italia. Benito looks at the arrivals board. Oh noes! It's the wrong airline!! Vito's ragazzas (Italian-young girls) are on a different airline. They need to hurry to terminal 2! Quick! Benito, get the car! Vito asks an employee to have Fiorella Bianchi paged at terminal 2.

Fiorella and Gianna are making their way through the airport. They can't find Vito. Fiorella can't find Gianna's meds! It's been an hour and a half since Gianna's last dose! They go to a kiosk to ask about finding Vito. Fiorella is upset and starts speaking Italian, but switches to Spanish. Gianna starts to feel weak and fainty. Dude at the counter explains that the airport medical service está colapsado Wordreference points me to a forum where the meaning is more like "full". Fiorella asks about a hospital. Counter Dude explains there's one nearby. Fiorella and Gianna head outside to get a taxi.

Pedro attempts to put Tan in a car to go home. She wants him to stay the night, but he explains that he's got work and then has to go see his grandmother. She whines about abuela being more important. Pedro deposits her in the car. She's pouting as the car whisks her away. Pedro greets his driver, Fidel. They drive away as Fiorell and Gianna come out looking for a taxi. Vito and Benito pull up just as Fiorella and Gianna's taxi pulls away from the curb.

Federica asks Dante if he wants his future read. He doesn't think she needs the cards to know that all hell will soon be breaking loose. Federica notes that the family is going to end up tearing each other apart for that despicable guy's inheritance (but she phrased it "they are all going to tear each other apart because of my...er...that despicable guy.) Dante doesn't think she should talk that way about her uncle. Federica reminds him that she and Eloisa know the truth about that inheritance. If Federica talks now, they will accuse her of being crazy. Dante says that's why she shouldn't rush things. Federica says one day she'll be able to show how they betrayed her father and she will get everything she deserves. There have been many betrayals at the rancho. She hopes Dante doesn't betray her. He assure her he won't.

Vito confirms that the girls did arrive. The airline agent says they must be going through customs. Benito thinks they left the airport...or maybe they saw Vito! Vito says that Fiorella has his address (home and restaurant.) She must have gone to look for him. Benito tries to get the agent's cell number. You know, just in case Fiorella shows up.

The taxista robs Fiorella and Gianna. At least he really did leave her near the hospital.

Reynaldo (Benito's dad) has hurt himself and Adela (Benito's mom) wants to take him to the hospital. He must be the building Super, because he keeps griping about what might happen while he's gone. He's responsible for the building. Tan arrives. If they said something super important, let me know.

Fidel and Pedro talk about love. Fidel wonders if Pedro loves Tania. Pedro wonders if it's worth confronting his grandmother, losing his name and losing his fortune. A little selfish. So I would go with no, he doesn't love Tania and right now he's sinking lower in the Viwerville galan ratings.

Tan records her thoughts in her diary. She's tired of him hiding her. Maybe he's ashamed of her. She's losing her patience with Pedro. She fishes a bottle of booze from behind the couch, but she seems to resist the temptation for now.

Vito is still worried about the girls. He's looked everywhere and they haven't arrived at his house or restaurant. There's no trace of them. Vito wonders how he could be so stupid. Benito thinks if the "ragazza" was a con woman, better to have lost her. Vito dismisses him for the night.

Gianna is denied medical care at the hospital since Fiorella can't pay. Adela and Raymundo are there and see the scene. Gianna faints. Fiorella cries and screams for help.

Here are the lyrics to the theme song for those interested (I recommend the Angelica Maria version):

yo me pregunto
y no me se contestar por cobardia

a donde va
en nuestro cielo hay un sol en agonia
a donde va
y no me se contestar por cobardia

Sara - Thank you for the recap and the lyrics! Looks like the story continues to be getting set up and is moving along.

Does Vito know what Fio looks like? Can't remember if he has a pic of her.

Sara- Fabulous job with this recap. It moved right along quickly, and your pasta even got some airtime.

In addition to the medications, Fio also left her notebook with all of Vito's info. And Gianna erased Fio's email account so she won't be able to access her old emails and Vito's info. In other words, they're screwed. Majorly. But luckily it looks like Benito's parents are good peeps and will help them out.

How can medical professionals see a person dying in front of them and not provide some assistance?

Thank you Sara! Volare is such a good choice! I've heard Dean sing it before, but I hadn't heard Dominico.

I don't know if Benito agreed to dress up, but it sounds like him. He must be really good at his job to get away with talking to his boss like that.

"Fiorella offers up everything but her virginity to settle the account. Thank heaven the landlord doesn't think of it." And I'm glad they're outta there, despite all the current problems, because I was expecting him to go there at any second and I had enough creepiness on the last show!

"Boys' day at the spa! Facials!" I got such a giggle out of that. You go, boys!

"What if she's bumping into a hot, young stud on the escalator?" I know that's always what happens to me at the airport. I mean, 'cause I'm with Mr. 5ft. And sometimes escalators trip me up. It happens.

"Federica says one day she'll be able to show how they betrayed her father and she will get everything she deserves." I'm expecting her to end up being totally wrong about that, but not until she wreaks havoc trying to show them all.

"Benito tries to get the agent's cell number. You know, just in case Fiorella shows up." Yeah. He's growing on me. He's just too cute for his own good.

"So I would go with no, he doesn't love Tania and right now he's sinking lower in the Viwerville galan ratings." Yeah, what the heck, dude!

doris, he has that picture of her and Gianna together, being all silly and making faces at the camera.

Vivi, that's the thing, the receptionist isn't a medical professional and probably has zero say. That's the thing that bugs me, though, with her and the doctor back in Italy...ok, so you know the person has no money and you can't do anything for them...at least tell them where they can go or what they can do! If for no other reason than, in the receptionist's case, they're not going to go away otherwise. And now that Gianna has collapsed, it becomes an emergency situation, in which case I would think that now they can provide treatment, whether Fiorella can pay or not. I guess it depends on the hospital.

Sara, I'm shaking my head in that you not only provided a delicious recap but lyrics as well. You are incredible.

"Pedro, ever the girlfriend denying romantic (sarcasm font ™ jlk)" made me belly laugh out loud. Bravo!

"Boys' day at the spa! Facials! Big needles with brownish liquid!" was also a favorite. The vocabulary "Wowza de mal agüero (bird of bad omen and " gozoso (joyful)" was an additional and appreciated treat.

"I would go with no, he doesn't love Tania and right now he's sinking lower in the Viwerville galan ratings". I agree. Very disappointing. He seems tepid toward Tania at best. That is when he is failing to acknowledge he even knows her. Agree Sara that he didn't seem that enraptured by Fiorella on the elevator either. Ummm, no she's not following you. You're not all that Pedro. Hope that changes.

I enjoyed Benito and Vito's' fruitless adventures at the airport. I got a kick out of Vito running away from the needle too (exacly what I would have done. That thing was huge!!).

doris, good question. Not sure if abuelo tucked pictures of the girls in with his letter (?)

Vivi, I can't speak on the legality, but I would assume that a hospital would be liable if someone dies on the premises after being denied treatment. Cold. Very cold.

Looking forward to tomorrow. Sara, thank you, thank you.

Diana

SARA--loved the beautifully detailed recap, thank you for posting it so quickly, and also for the lyrics to that lovely song. It's still the honeymoon period but I'm enjoying everything so far.

What other mishaps can happen to those poor girls? Reminded me of that old Jack Lemmon movie, "The Out of Towners".

Plus, the girls' accent is eeeerily reminding me of The Meatball from TSTSNBN. *Shudder*

Love the big peacock stained glass thingy behind Don Vittorio's desk.

Thank you again Sara!

J in Oregon

Thanks Sara, gave me my meds for TN fever

Shout out to Eli for yesterday's

Sara! Thank you for he recap, I'm gonna watch the episode just for the spa scenes. I have an idea, I think at the end of the year we should vote and give an award for worst galan of the year

Thanks everyone!

I love that idea, Eli!

I am just as dumbfounded about the hospital scene as everyone else. I am assuming it doesn't reflect the actual way hospitals work in Mexico and that it was for drama. I really hope it was just for the drama!

Comment bomb now that coffee kicked in...

I'm also loving this so far and I hope that the things that make me like it continue for the whole show. I love the music especially. It really does have a fairy tale Disney vibe.

J in O- the restaurant/Vito's office are gorgeous and I hope that we see more of it.

I really enjoy the interaction between Benito and Vito. Light comedy and not goofy.

And the vultures are the villains, but they lack the evil and slimy element of Sev. It's practically refreshing.

I totally dig Federica's look!

Vivi- thank you for remembering and noting the notebook that Fiorella left behind!

Doris- amiga! I hope you are enjoying your travels. We are definitely getting set up. I'm honestly hoping we see a build up of the romance and love. Fiorella seems to have caught the love at first sight bug, but Pedro certainly looks immune to it! I hope this is a couple that ends up really bringing the romance.

Tofie - are you still traveling as well? Glad I could help you with your TN fix. Maybe Pedro will provide some good material for your list.

It feels like Pedro is kind of vulturey too. Just maybe a baby vulture? I mean, taking Tan to Italy and having a sexual relationship with her (I assume) and keeping her a secret? Not willing to give up anything for her? Kind of a jerk thing to do.

"Benito tries to get the agent's cell number. You know, just in case Fiorella shows up." Yeah. He's growing on me. He's just too cute for his own good".

Kat, totally agree!

AV was the only TN I'd seen him in but I grew to like him too. He and Vito are good together and enjoyable, not silly or stoopid. :)

Diana

Thanks for this, Sara. I'm still getting my sea legs on this one, so your detailed rendering of this was helpful and enjoyable, and your insight into the situations presented is always a plus.

I can't hear accents, so I wonder if the actresses are doing a credible job of sounding like Italians?

I totally agree that the humor presented so far is enjoyable and is serving to draw me into the story. I am turned off by what usually passes for humor in Mexican productions; it is just too over the top silly and slapstick for me. Benito is doing a great job of being something of a lose cannon, yet a loyal and effective employee. I loved the look on that airport agents face when he asked her for her cell phone number.

So, Fiorella certainly isn't the most experienced traveler. Customs busted her for stuff that I would think most people would know shouldn't be carried, and what was she thinking anyway trying to bring all that food stuff when she has limited baggage space? At least your Barilla brand pasta got a prominent showing.

Yeah, I thought the hospital receptionist was cold. I don't know anything about Mexican law regarding people presenting at the ER with life threatening health issues who can't pay, but it seems to me they should have some provision for free care if for no other reason than to keep people from dying on their doorstep and giving them a bad reputation.

I just can't believe that Vito could think he could get away with presenting himself via the internet as a young stud, and then showing up at the airport as a man in his (?) 70's. Yeah, Fio won't notice the difference in ages at all!

Well, just about everything short of rape and murder have happened to our unfortunate young sisters. I'm wondering how they will get out of all of these problems.

Thanks again, Sara.

David

Thanks, David! It was fun seeing the Barilla pasta. I wonder if that was product placement. Well played if it was.

If a person comes into the ER with a life-threatening malady, aren't hospitals in the US required to help?just asking. I don't know.

Sara re: free care in U.S. hospitals. They are absolutely required to render whatever care is needed regardless of the patient's ability to pay, and there are signs in the entrance to U.S. ER's that say this specifically in English and Spanish.

David

Thank you! I just can't imagine that not being the case in Mexico. I could buy that it was a private hospital, but even if they didn't treat patients who couldn't pay I would think they would call an ambulance to take them to a hospital that would.

Did that make sense?

Do we have any Italians on the blog or folks who studied Italian? They could tell us how this all sounds. David- The girls sound stereotypically Italian to my ear. I'm most impressed with Livia's (Fiorella) ability to have long conversations, like the one with the landlord this episode, in Italian. His Italian sounded legit to me (not forced like Fio's), and makes me think the production team actually enlisted a few Italian actors while they were in Italy. It's a great plot device that their Mexican born father always made the girls speak Spanish at home, because then it makes sense that they would even speak to each other in a mix of Spanish and Italian.

Sara, you make perfect sense to me.

Thank you, Vive regarding accents. I would imagine that sounding Italian consists of drawing out certain vowels. Instead of the rather abrupt Spanish "por favor" they would say "per favo-o-o-oray".

David

David- It's more about the sing-songy sound of the Italian than drawn out endings. For example, Firorella's name sounds much more musical said by the Italians than by the Mexcans, with the Ella portion going up much higher in tone as well as being drawn out more.

I really like the way Gianna speaks her Italian/Spanish. It's very sing-songy.

Thanks, Vivi. This discussion is actually more theoretical than practical for me since I can't hear the words very well. I can hear tonal or pitch changes.

The Spanish stuff that I hear the best are commercials, and English movies dubbed in Spanish. Probably the worst for me is tn's, with them reciting dialog while screaming or crying, or when angry and going a million miles a minute. What I lack is the ability to hear consonants properly, so, bad, sad, dad, glad, had, all sound pretty much the same to me.

David

Sara, thanks so much for this great recap. I had to work late and only got the last 20 minutes, so you're great detail made my day.

So far, this TN still makes me smile, but I do think for the sake of the "fairy tale", we might have to park our beanies a few times and just let the story go.

I wonder how much of Pedro being a bit of an ass right now is to let us think he's a workaholic, little too self-absorbed, doesn't "enjoy" life and needs someone better than his boozy girlfriend as a distraction. Face it, when we saw him in Italy, he had his nose for the most part in a phone or didn't want to go really enjoy the scenery. So the case needs to be made he NEEDS changing, he needs to have his eyes opened and the fair Ella will be the one to make that happen. Can you hear the tweeting birdies and see the fairy dust descending?? not being snarky, I like the aspect of the this TN approach so far. I could go for a fairy tale as long as it isn't done so childishly that it becomes ridiculous.

As for the denizens of the manse--so the "stepmother and ugly step sisters" personas to the tale even if not related to Ella, it soooo cracks me up when you see these lazy, sit around the house type women dressed to the absolute nines, including jewelry to beat the band, and they go nowhere. Not a pair of sweats and tee shirts to be found in those closets I guess.

Daisynjay

Thanks daisynjay! I wonder if doris will be adding a line of floral beanies for this show?

I dress to the nines at home, doesn't everyone? *snort*

Comment bomb
I'm more than willing to beanie adjust for this if it stays fairy tale like.

Forgot to say that those are interesting thoughts on Pedro. It would be nice to see him go from cranky to lovey.

Thank you, Sara! Giiiirrrrl! I just finished watching and came to the recap to read it and couldn't get past the title! Assolutamente geniale! BAM! You nailed it, girl!

Now. On to the recap! YAAAAY

OMG! I didn't even get as far as the link! Thank you, Sara! When I was a little kid me and my brothers and sisters LOVED this song. We didn't know what he was saying so until this day we still call it "Bonahneh"! Please don't apologize for the link. . .O, sweet memories!

Lol! Glad you liked it, Lila!

Thanks Sara.....after reading your recap am going to watch this episode again. Was busy doing nails, talking on the phone, so missed a lot. Great recap as always.

Okay, now I'm comment bombing! Deano, too! Volare interspersed with English and with a comic twist wrapped in a medley. Oh, this is so special! I'm crying before I can even read the recap. I was real small when I heard this music and it took a place in my heart right along with the other popular hits of the day.

Sara, I haven't even read the recap and you have made my day! Thank you!

Thanks emeraldrose! That's what we're here for! I know I sometimes do other things when I watch!

Glad I made your day, Lila!

Lila, have I said I liked your avatar yet? I can't remember.

I had forgot to say thanks for the Volare memory too. When I was a dweebie kid, that was a "hey day" as they say for Italian lyrical songs, part Italian and part English. The age of the "Crooners". Dean Martin, Perry Como (my dad's favorite), Jerry Vale (mom's favorite) and Al Martino. We had albums galore at home that my folks were always playing and we are not even remotely Italian in heritage. As a joke, my dad, who I will say had a good voice, would sing along, arms extended and sing at the top of his voice. Volare was one he always did that to. Then my mom would go with the scolding "Frank!!!" and he would stop, wink at us kids and we'd laugh. Ahhhh.....brings back memories.

Daisynjay

You guys suck me back in! Thank you Sara! It was a great recap. I especially liked "At the ranch, the vultures dine. " So apt a description.

Daisy - I agree with your take on Pedro. It reminds me of another very different, but beloved Cinderella adaptation: Pretty Woman. I have a feeling we might see scenes like the one where Vivian takes Edwards phone away from him so they can have a picnic and walk barefoot in the park. I do so love it when a show gives up a reason to believe the protags make each other better. I hope Pedro makes Fiorella a teeny bit more focused. She does have a tendency to leave key things around in her haste (bread, medicine, information), but to be fair she's got a LOT going on.

I've only seen Benito in CME, where he was a sweet kid with a bad dad. I'm expecting sparks between he and Gianna, who I also think will make more some competition with Roxi.

Also on Roxi - with with her. She really has balls to be so mean, insulting, and dismissive of a family that, as far as she knows, took her in when she'd been abandoned. I'm interested to know why because she certainly does little to recommend herself to people.

The sing song inflections just sound like two people trying hard to make themselves sound Italian, especially since without it, they'd sound like what they are: Spanish speakers. They're doing a solid job of maintaing that inflection while remembering their lines.

On Roxi, I meant "WTH(eck) with her!"

Ever since I saw the first episode, my ear worm is that theme song from the movie Moonstruck that is sung by Dean Martin ... That's Amore?

Hey hellashelle! I'm glad you keep stopping by! (I wish I could be so regular on YNCELH.)

Doris- that's another good one by Dean!

Oh Doris, I LOVE that movie!! And I don't even like Nicholas Cage as an actor for the most part. Guess we're all a sucker for a good fairy tale like story if done well.

Daisynjay

Sara! Finally! Finally I have read the re-cap! Thank you, Teamie! I am so fortunate to have the benefit of your, Eli and Diva's recaps before I attempt tonight. These people sound like they're blowing raspberries. . .Italian and Spanish raspberries! Sheesh! Except for Vittorio! I understand him perfectly!

Yes! I like Benito and Vito. Benito's parents are good folk whom I feel will somehow help Gianna and Fiorella but their comedy rountine and Reynaldo's voice make me want to hurt myself.

Ay, these poor girls! They took a flight right into Woe! Woe! Sara, if you never name another episode, you have won the award for Best Title for this novella right out of the gate! AND your avatar gets prominent placement in the same episode? Oh, yeah!

Like and agree with your assessment, Daisy, on Pedro's state of mind and behavior right now. Agree, however, that he seemed more annoyed than twitterpatted at running into Fiorella again. Not appeeeealiiiiing. I'll be patient with him. He's under a lot of pressure: Grammy Eloisa on one side with her expectation of perfection and vultures on the other. I have to admit, though, his keeping Tania hidden and using her as a sexual release only is VERY unattractive in a galan.

Federica? Not hating her, yet. That's ok. She will probably grow into it.

Question. Is Roxanne the one someone said was abandoned and whom Eli called (and I agree) as being the maid's daughter? Incidentally, that is being telegraphed SO loudly by her constant fretting and scolding.

Thank you again, Sara. I'm liking it and am going to try my darndest to just let it be what it is. Also enjoying the music and the décor of the restaurant!

A couple of questions, please: What is the relationship of Vito and his restaurant to Rancho Los Angeles? None? Do they just happen to be the two main venues of action?

What is the business Eloisa's family? Thanks!

Hey Lila girl! Hopefully now that the girls are in Mexico, understanding them will be easier!

Yes, Roxana's the "abandoned" one we're 99.9% certain is the maid's daughter. Those other questions are good, and I have no idea abt their answers. Interesting potential for connections there though...

Benito's still a bit questionable for me, but I think he'll be a good guy in the end. I think he resent Fiorella already because he assumed he'd be taking over the restaurant and now his boss is about to adopt a whole family who can inherit instead. But Gianna's so pretty and sweet (when she's not violently ooposed to her sister's actions), I think he's about to get knocked for a loop.

Sneaking onto my school computer since I'm tired of trying to type on my phone...

Lila-I have to confess that I'm having trouble understanding this one and I'm hoping that once it's Spanish most 100% of the time it will help. My brain can't process and it keeps trying to understand the Italian.

For know, I think the restaurant and the rancho are just two venues of action. We'll have to see if they cross paths.

YESSSS! Hellashelle, that's it...I liked Pretty Woman and how Richard Gere became less rigid.

Dammit. I had to identify commercial trucks. What? I want food!

Sara, thank you so much for a brilliant recap! And the lyrics! This episode does set up the action for what will follow, so it had to be sad with many problems, but it was still... sad... and annoying. I have to admit annoyance at Gianna's behavior. Sick or no, cute or no, she keeps acting like a stubborn, willful 6-year-old. And erasing Fiorella's e-mail ACCOUNT? (Thanks, Vivi, 'cause I didn't get that when watching.) Ugh.

And then there's Fiorella herself. Forgetting the bread was one thing, but losing both the medicine AND her notebook with all the information? Get it together, Fio! But they are both so sweet and pretty, and I, too, just love the flowered dresses!

Daisy, I loved your take on what will be done with Pedro's character... super insightful, as always.

The scene at the hospital was indeed disturbing. I know Mexico has some kind of weaker version of the US law requiring hospitals to admit and treat emergency patients, but I don't believe that applies to non-citizens. Non-citizens need to have insurance or money, I think. I guess we'll see what happens tonight. It seems unlikely that a hospital would just let someone die on the floor of their lobby without any help at all.

Thanks for the warm welcome yesterday, by the way. And no, although I remember the other Karen, I'm a different one. Maybe I should call myself Karen2 to avoid confusion?

Karen2

Love it "Karen2"!

And major thanks for that information on the Mexican hospital system!

Welcome, Karen2!!!! Karen1 is busy writing her book in Pennsylvania, but she is well.

Hey, Hella! So good to see you, girl! Thank you for that on Roxana. Trying to get all these folk straight. You make an excellent point about Benito perhaps resenting Fiorella! This will be an interesting dynamic to watch. He certainly has been quick to cast this failure to meet up with Fiorella as evidence that she has played the "would be sugar daddy." Yah, what you say makes a lot of sense.

Sara, that's it! My brain hears the Italian, picks up cognates and something of the rhythm and I think I'm understanding it and then a clump of words come in I don't get and my brain screams. . ."Agggh! What are you talking about?"

Ok, thanks about the restaurant and the ranch being indeed just where the action is taking place.

I hope they don't change the restaurant set. Like others I love that stained glass.

They definitely didn't skip on the set design and settings in this tale, which is helping big time to suck me in. They pull in a beautiful horse somewhere, I'll be dead meat and hooked for the whole show.

Welcome Karen2!! You make a good point on the non-nationals with health care. Our corporation is global, and there are always advisories you receive when going abroad that if you aren't on a healthcare program through the company ( they are familiar with the services for our options) what you need to know when going outside the US. we also have hot lines and a service that will come in and help if you take ill and don't have your info, cash or cards, or whatever. It's amazing he countries that will just refuse to even take you in an ambulance if you are not a national and either have cash or can show you're covered for services.

Yeah, good question, what business is Pedro and clan do? At least it's not an apple orcahrd :) But some days I do miss seeing those apples that are so red and ripe 12 month out of the year (looking at you MP...good for a chuckle.

Daisynjay

Diana, "You're not all that Pedro" Word! I'm also enjoying Benito and Vito together.

J in O, yes, the peacock window! I just want Don V to hush for a minute and step out of the way so I can get a good look at it!

Eli, "Worst Galan of the Year" would be quite a race! Do we go with shows that started this year, ended this year, or anything that was airing during the year?

Sara, "And the vultures are the villains, but they lack the evil and slimy element of Sev." Good point!

Vivi, all my Italian is from singing, so all I know is "pronounce every single vowel" and "double consonants are longer than single." Really making sure that there's a longer "l" in Fiorella and "t" in Vittorio and "n" in Gianna goes a long way to getting the Italian sound. Try saying them out loud the way you'd pronounce them in English or Spanish vs. Italian with the longer double consonants...it's fun!

Daisynjay, "I could go for a fairy tale as long as it isn't done so childishly that it becomes ridiculous." I hear that! I think the crew of vultures are going to add a touch of non-childish drama. I think we'll get horses the more time we spend at the ranch :D

HellaShelle, thank you for bringing up the positive ways Pedro and Fiorella could influence each other. That's going to help a LOT with me cutting Pedro some slack!

Lila, YES! Reynaldo's voice makes me clutch my throat and want to drink tea!

Karen2, when you put it that way, about Gianna's behavior...yeah, not cool. I think she was right not to want her sister to be marrying a potentially-skeevy guy she's never met, but erasing the account was not the best way to go about it. And I'll add that when it comes to the medication--she's 18! Old enough to be taking responsibility for that herself instead of Fiorella, but I guess, Gianna wasn't carrying a big enough purse?

Thanks Sara, awesome recap.

I might probably check this out, school is a lot of work and does not leave much time for telenovelas. Pedro is not exactly my version of a galan hope he get better as the episodes go by. Firorella and Giana better stop losing stuff. Looks like they are going to get help in the hospital. I seriously doubt most hospital in Mexico are like that.

Ore

Do we know the age difference between the two sisters? Ella is obviously the mother figure, but seems to me with her day dreaming and innocence she probably isn't all that much older, just forced to have to be the one "in charge". Thus why I think she carries the meds and feels like she has to be the one shouldering the burden.

Erasing the email account...such a 21st century think to do!! Can I tell you it may have been back-handed and a bit reactionary, but cripes, I was in glee when I saw the laptop and cell phones being used in this and that Gianna was a typical teen and even did that. At least we won't complain about needing to bring the story kicking and screaming into the current century.

Daisynjay

Haven't read the recap yet. But that title is PURE COMIC GENIUS. Wow! I sometimes use that song in class, but Lordy, I'll never be able to listen to it without laughing now!

Daisynjay- Fiorella is 23 and Gianna is 18.

Thanks Vivi!! Enough to make her feel she has to be the "mother" and bread winner and young enough to still be day-dreaming.

Daisynjay

Daisynjay, Mr. 5ft was complaining that they didn't Skype. Baby steps! And he forgets that his own laptop doesn't have a camera either, so it's not that far-fetched to think that maybe Gianna's doesn't or maybe Vittorio's doesn't.

Sara, you were on fire with this one: Some of my favorite lines....

Fiorella offers up everything but her virginity to settle the account. Thank heaven the landlord doesn't think of it.

Pedro looks more annoyed and pissed than struck by love.

...sinking lower in Viewerville galan rating.

Now yes, you're all making sense with the Pretty Woman comparisons. I'm also thinking of Sabrina, both the first and the second version, where Lionel was a superb and ruthless businessman, eventually turned into a love-struck, passionate puddle by Sabrina. Last scene on the bridges of Paris still makes me yearn for...well, somebody from long ago and far away.

But hey, J of O, I loved the Meatball in De Que Te Quiero etc. Both his outrageous accent and his outrageous suits. Oh well. Tastes differ.

Rather upset with Fiorella last night. As an older protector, she's a disaster. Dragging her sister off to Mexico, losing the addresses and the medication, getting into a cab with a thug. Lordy! But I'm sure it will all come right, now that she's met the big-hearted Mrs. Maintenance. Have to admire a woman who can carry her wailing hubby on her back without complaint. SOME. WOMAN.

David, I hear you on the consonant problem. As my hearing deteriorates, I miss the first consonants in words. I love the closed captions in Spanish for these shows, and am beginning to love them in English for the nightly news!

Sara, this was just delicious. Love the rhythm of your writing, shows that you have ear for melody as well. You have music in your soul.

Diva- I'd go with anything that aired this year, we could count down on New Years Eve

It might be an easier (though less fun) process to name the best galans of the year. Shorter list.

Thank you, Sara. It has become an absolute necessity that in order for me to follow a TN, it has to have you as one of the recappers!

I wonder if Benito's parents will mention those poor, lost Italian girls at the hospital to him. And I wonder if he'll go straight to Vittorio with the info or keep it to himself and try to find them on his own. Hmmm ...

*blush* Thank you! I'm flattered. It feels so impersonal to call you "Anon352" I hope you hang out with us and pick a name we can call you by. :-)

Vivi and Eli...there's always the possibility of doing both :D The first Annual Caray, Caray! awards.

JudyB and our new friend...Benito's mom is such a softie, she's bound to want to help the girls. And she's so tough, his dad won't have a chance to say "no"!

Kat- Haven't we discussed having our own awards before? Why have we never done it? I'm sure we would do a lot better job than Novelas y TV. Best Galan; Best Heroine; Best Supporting Galan; Best Supporting Heroine; Best Villain/Villainess; Best Old Person (I know Novelas y TV has some fancy way of saying it, but that's what it is).

I think it would be a lot of fun! Could we somehow utilize polls?

Omigosh yes, JudyB! Adela is certainly some woman to carry her husband!

Raymundo's voice makes me glad I quit smoking, Diva.

I'm sure someone's come up with the idea before. I guess if we haven't done it, it's because it takes a little bit of planning, starting with the date of the actual awards and then rolling backwards to how long do we need to do a writeup (and who's going to do it!), how much earlier than that would voting close (and how do we vote), when and how would we collect nominations, determine the categories, determine what shows are eligible, would we want to include some recapper/commenter categories as well, etc., etc., etc.

Totally do-able, just takes some time.

I don't know what categories they usually do, but I'd be interested in things like the "Should've Been The Galan" award, the "Most Surprising Plot Twist", "Saddest Death", "Most Loved Inanimate Object"....

Sara- Yes! The polls would be the best way to vote. The things we would have to decide are:

Is it inclusive of all tns we've covered on the blog over the year from all the US networks- Uni, Telemundo, Unimas, etc., or segregated by network?

How far into the tn do we have to be before they are included in the poll? (50+ capitulos in?)

What would be our voting categories?

When would we do it (December, January, February)?

Kat- I love your categories. :)

Those are great categories. I nominate January because I have a 2 week break in December and could help out more. Plus it's something fun after the holidays. January is so dreary.

JudyB--it must be raining Meatballs because the character I referred to was on "La Gata", AKA The Show That Shall Not Be Named. We called him The Meatball and his faux-ny Italian accent was pretty cheeezy. I didn't see DQTQTQ, hmmm, maybe the two characters are related!

J in Oregon

Ooooooh I'm so in! I also vote for January!

So, are the Vultures our equivalent of Cinderella' wicked stepsisters? Who would be the evil stepmother ?

Thanks so much for this snappy recap, Sara!

I am late for the party because there is a new edition of my essay writing textbook , so I have to study up in preparation . My students wrote a sample essay for me on Wednesday....not good writers. Yikes And they are supposed to produce four 5paragraph essays and learn eight chapters of complicated grammar! It is going to be a long semester.

my mother had a crush on Deano . I liked him , too...the way you like an attractive older dude. However, my favorite rendition of Volare is Bobby Rydel's. I found it on YouTube.

As for Italian vs Spanish, the two languages are both from Latin and seem to have a !ot of vocabulary in common even though Italian is more singsong. I used to have a student from Italy and one from Argentina , and they often translated words into English for each other. Also, my younger daughter studied in Florence for a semester , and she did not know Italian, but her years of high school Spanish helped her communicate a bit. She has long, dark, curly hair , and American tourists often stopped her to ask "Do..YOU..speak..any..English?" They were thrilled when she answered "Yes..a lot!"

My head is spinning with all these characters. it is going to take me awhile to sort them all out. Is Vito connected to Abuela and Pedro in any way?

May I suggest a category for our awards ?....Favorite Horse.

Susanlynn, I want to say there's no connection, but then there always turns out to be, doesn't there! At least for now, there's nothing obvious.

doris, Eloisa? She didn't seem that bad to me, but if Pedro is talking about having to hide Tania or she'll disinherit him, that makes me wonder. Or is that just his excuse?

Susanlynn, but I was going to nominate Solitario for "Should Have Been the Galan" ;)

I guess if we're going to do this thing, we probably ought to start talking about forming a committee or something. I can bring it up with other general blog news on Que Nos Cuenta. With a January award date, there's still plenty of time, but I'd say "ballots" need to be ready by December and nominations by November, with the eligibility period running from October to October? So...plenty of time.

We can also have "worse footwear" but I think Adelina from LSDP would win that one hands down

Hi Susanlynn!

Boo for new editions. I'm so sorry you've go so much to work on. I always feel bad for English teachers/Teachers who have to teach writing. Everyone acts like writing well is something easy. It's not. It requires tons of practice and EDITING! Something most courses just don't see to have the time for.

I think we MUST have a favorite horse category!!

Glad you're in Eli!

Interesting question, doris. Eloisa seems the most obvious choice right now!

Who's the fairy godmother? OH! That would be Benito's mom, right?

Wow! Love the excitement over the awards!Molto creativo!

Does anyone know the names of the two maids? I don't want to refer to their body size or such.

Kat, Yes, Solitario actually was the galan. He got two mares pregnant by the finale. Now there was a true stud. I must admit that my heart belonged to Chris's jet black Fresian beauty. Did he have a name ?

Sara..Yeah, teaching writing is a challenge! Some of these people cannot write a decent simple sentence with capitals and correct punctustion. QTH How did they get into an intermediate class. Grumble.

Best Ponytail ?

The one who is probably Roxi's mom is Joaquina (wow! I've never heard that name in the feminine form before) and the other one...I don't know! I can't recall if I've ever seen her in another show! I had to track Joaquina down via Amar Sin Limites where she played Azul's thesis advisor who later married (?) Azul's dad and had his baby.

Well, obviously Solitario wins Best Ponytail too :D (Ew..."Worst Mis-Cast"?)

I cannot track down the other maid! And if anybody's wanting to try IMdB looking for info, be warned...they list a number of episodes for each character which, if accurate, leaves some hints at things to come.

Simona! That's the other maid's name. The one with the braids.

Thank you, Diva. Don't look, peoples! Let's not spoil ourselves! 'Preciate it, Cap'n!

I'm getting better at squinting my eyes and not-really-reading, but yeah, it is really difficult to innocently search for something and not come across accidental spoilers!

Go team! We've figured out who most of these people are and don't have to refer to them by a distinctive article of clothing! (Hat Bro from LG, I'm looking at you! I think I still don't have a clue what that guy's name was, nor did I care!)

Kat..ha..Solitario just might sweep all the categories. Best ponytail...., indeed.

Thank you sara, very adventurous recap. Losed in the airport. That'd make a good movie title. Not likein the taxi guy, took all her
Money, like that dirty landlord, who wasn't bad lookin by the way. Just A goodlookin jerk. And pedro is turnin out to be one too.
