Caray, Caray!

Refrito: Ari offers to help Doris with his savings. Orlando declares that he loves Isela and will support her, whatever she decides to do. If she’s pregnant and wants to keep the baby, they can raise it as their own. She accepts but wants to leave and get away from her mother. Max tells Maleny their relationship is over.

Nuevo: Max tells Maleny he’s in love with MD and she has a classic reaction. She cries (without tears). She accuses Max of cheating. He tries to explain that nothing’s actually happened between him and MD because he wasn’t sure of his feelings for her until now and because she’s still in love with Daniel. Maleny cries that it’s still cheating. And Dan hit her because of MD. Max says she knows that’s not true. She calls him a liar and a coward. Her brother messed around with MD for months, but now Max is trituando(=grinding, crushing, shredding. In general, destroying) the love they’ve shared for years for MD?! She knocks some stuff off of the table they’re sitting at and storms out.

Jenny is worried about being Fermín’s sponsor. She’s worried she’ll relapse. He believes in her and points out that helping him will help her stay the course. She agrees, but says they have to focus totally on this…meaning he has to forget about helping Julian try to win over MD.

Maleny sobs to Alma that Max left her for MD. “She stole my brother and now she wants to steal the man I love! What’s wrong with her?!” Alma tries to calm her down, but Maleny is hysterical. She cries that nothing matters anymore as she jerks out of the hospital. Alma immediately calls Max. She tells him that she’s afraid Mal will do something crazy and reveals that Mal saw her father commit suicide. Max races off to find her.

Claudio calls Isela. She tells him she’s no longer interested in studying law; she’s going to marry Orlando. He thinks she doesn’t love Orlando and is throwing her life away. He reminds her that her mother is against the match. She tells him her mom will be grateful to Orlando for saving her from what she thinks happened to Isela. Claudio tells her that Josefa thinks Orlando raped her and has asked for his help in charging him with the crime. Isela is horrified.

Jenny says that MD will never look at Julian as more than a friend. When Fermin fails to get them together, he’ll relapse. Fermin tells her she’s really afraid because she’s in love with Julian and when he rejects her, she might relapse. Jenny claims it’s also for Julian, who’s pushing himself too far for MD. Fermin drops the pretenses. “Let’s be clear: You know I’m Julian’s father and I know you’re in love with him.” Jenny agrees and says that’s why Fermin’s doing this, out of guilt because he wasn’t there for Julian before.

Josefa tells Isela that she approached Claudio because she wants him to feel guilty about sleeping with her little girl and she wants him to be afraid that she’ll tell Alma about it. Isela asks why she accused Orlando. Josefa answers that she warned Isela hat if she didn’t break things off with Orly, Josefa would take care of him. “Just like you did with Leo?” Isela accuses. Josefa denies it, looking hella guilty the whole time. Isela tells Jo she doesn’t believe her…and Claudio won’t either when she tells him. Jo turns the topic back to Claudio, saying he won’t do anything about Orlando anyway because he knows he’s the one that slept with Isela. They’re interrupted by a knock at the door. It’s MD. She notes that Isela’s upset and looks at Josefa, knowing she’s most likely the cause.

Esperanza and Honoria are selling tacos while MD and Isela talk. MD says Orlando and Josefa are always at odds, so if he’s upset, it’s not about that, so what’s going on? Meanwhile, Mal hangs up on Max who is begging her to stop because they have to talk. She parks haphazardly in front of Espy and Hon’s makeshift taco stand and demands to speak to "la estupida de Maria Dolores". Espy isn’t about to let Mal insult her daughter, but the screaming has brought the whole neighborhood out. Josefa, drawn to conflict like a mosquito to blood, is smiling broadly in anticipation of a smackdown. Maleny shoves over the tables and throws the food on the ground. When MD comes running out Mal screams that MD stole Max away from her! She’s been running around with Max and Dan at the same time! Max left Mal for MD! Dan appears out of no where and holds Maleny back from physically attacking MD, who’s protesting that she doesn’t know what Mal’s talking about. Josefa is gleefully telling everyone that she knew it, she told them: MD’s a slut! Julian defends MD as Isela gets up in Maleny’s face and tells her quietly that she’s the only one messing around with two guys and she’d better leave or Isela will tell everyone what she knows. Max shows up and he and Daniel start shoving each other, Dan accusing Max of being after MD from the beginning. Esperanza has had enough! “LISTEN, BOTH OF YOU! I DON’T WANT EITHER ONE OF YOU AROUND MY DAUGHTER EVER AGAIN!” She ushers MD to a corner while Josefa tells Hon that this is what she gets for dealing with that family. Jenny and Fermin come up just then and Josefa tells them that prepotente(=arrogant person. In this case, Maleny) broke everything. Who’s going to pay for it all now? Fermin goes to Hon, but she’s bitterly trying to clean up everything she worked so hard to put together.

Josefa wants to know what Isela knows about that nutcase Maleny (possibly recognizing a kindred spirit). Isela says Mal’s like her (a cheater), but even though it pains Josefa to recognize it, MD’s a good girl so Jo should stop insulting her. Jo doesn’t care, of course. She calls MD, Espy and Clara all tramps (Did she have a thing for Espy’s husband or something?). Isela tells her she’s prettier when she keeps her big mouth shut. What’s more, she shouldn’t be talking because when everyone finds out that Isela slept with a married man, Joesfa’s going to have to deal with the shame. When she leaves, Jo looks like she hadn’t considered that…but also still doesn’t care.

Outside, everyone’s cleaning up from Mal’s fit. Espy hates to see good food wasted like this. MD comes out with a bucket and apologizes to everyone at large. She promises to pay for everything. Honoria does not look appeased. Julian tells her it’s not her fault and she swears to him that what Mal said wasn’t true, she was just spewing her anger and hatred. Julian knows MD was just trying to help, but he’s always been the man of the house, so he’ll worry about taking care of his mom. Fermin offers to be Julian’s feet if he needs to get around for work. MD tries to talk to Hon, but Hon ignores her. Julian comforts MD as Jenny looks on.

Back at the hospital, a nurse brings Alma some pills. Alma tells Max to go find Mal instead of worrying about her. Max says after what Mal did to MD and her neighbors, he doesn’t think they have to worry about her trying something else tonight. He thought Mal didn’t talk about her dad because of how he died; he never imagined that she saw it happen. Alma says she adored her father, and he adored her…like Ursula and Daniel (oh Lord help us if that was the case). Max promises to find Mal and make her understand.

Part 2

Fermin tells Honoria that they’ll figure this out, but Hon says Jo was right, she shouldn’t have trusted people that have already let her down. No, Fermin says, she’d be silly to trust Jo. Julian agrees. Hon says first it was Dan, now it’s Max and at the end of the day they’re the ones paying for broken plates. Julian points out that Dan’s a proven liar. He doesn’t know Mal, but they heard what Isela said (did they?), plus Mal acted like a crazy woman, breaking everything, and she’s Dan’s sister. They should at least give Max the benefit of the doubt. Hon says she doesn’t blame Max and she’ll always be grateful to him for getting Julian out of prison. Julian agrees Max is a good guy. Plus, MD only loves Daniel.

Dan and Ursula worry: just when they had Claudio on their side, Mal pulls this stunt! Dan tells Ursula that Isela knows about Mal and Ari’s affair. And Max will surely tell Claudio that Dan was there last night. Dan says he was only there to warn MD about Ivana’s lawsuit. Ursula wants MD to rot in jail, but Dan says when they’re digging around, they’ll find out he's the one behind the dress debacle.

Max calls Clara to speak with MD. He apologizes, but he couldn’t continue seeing Mal knowing he’s in love with MD. He tried to explain to Mal that he knows MD doesn’t love him back. It won’t happen again and he’ll pay for the damages. MD tells him now to worry about it; they already owe him a lot. She just wants them to stay away so her mom isn’t stressed and they don’t have more problems with the neighbors.

Orlando and Isela go to the Civil Court to get married!

Alma and Max tell Claudio what happened. His parents urge Max to fix things with Maleny. Max explains things to Claudio, unwittingly mirroring Claudio’s situation with Isela: He couldn’t stay with Mal with MD on his mind all the time. Claudio didn’t raise him to cheat. Claudio reminds Max that he proposed to Mal, he has a commitment. Max asks them what he’s supposed to do: stay with her knowing that he doesn’t love her? Alma doesn’t want that either, but Mal didn’t go home last night. She’s missing.

Gerry and Susana discuss Ivana’s situation over breakfast. Susana proposes that Gerry get Ivana focused on the baby and Susana will get MD and Dan back together.

Mal slept in her car. She calls Ari and asks him to use the money he got from Arango to rent her an apartment. She doesn’t want to go home because her mom will be on her case for the rest of her life for losing Max.

Isela and Orlando couldn’t get married. They have to do all kinds of paperwork and whatnot, so it’ll take a couple of days. Isela says she dreamed that they married, ran away and were free and happy…but it’s not fair to Orlando. He assures her he loves her and wants to marry her. Isela tells him she might have messed things up with Ari and Maleny, but she hopes things don't get worse.

Dan goes to the tailor shop to warn MD about the lawsuit. She gets lightheaded at the thought. (pleased don't be pregnant, please don't be pregnant...) He offers to help her fight the lawsuit secretly, but she kicks him out.

Ivana meets with her lawyers. They can charge MD for theft and for damages because the dress debacle hurt Ivana’s brand name. The lawyers have to get proof though, so they’ll need to talk to the clerk that took the dress and get testimony about Alma’s dress as well. Jacinto warns Ivana that the clerk will finger Dan for the dress, but that’s just what Ivana wants.

Espy has borrowed some stuff to try the taco stand again, but Honoria turns her down. She doesn’t want to work with them again. Josefa is gleeful as Espy leaves. She urges Hon to kick Fermin out now. Hon shushes her as she says she can't see why Hon has forgiven him for abandoning her just because Julian came out badly. Right now, Josefa says, he’s helping collect Julian’s fees, but that means he’s out by himself…

Clearly, Josefa won't be happy until everyone's as miserable as she is. But, unfortunately, she has a point. Fermin’s outside of a bar, struggling not to get a drink.

Jacinto calls Dan to warn him that the lawyers will talk to the clerk. Dan tells Jacinto to talk to the clerk first, but Jacinto doesn’t think he can get her to change her testimony. Dan says fine, but if he’s going down, he won’t go down alone.

Doris helps Julian to the tailor shop. MD scolds him for not resting. He says he’s gathering money for his orthotics so he can hold himself up and walk better. Doris proposes going into business with MD reviving old dress, but MD turns her down. She’s about to have legal trouble and she tired of everyone else getting mixed up in her problems.

Ursula told Claudio where to find Maleny. He’s come with Max to take her home. Ursula speaks to her via Claudio’s cell. She tells Mal that Ari told them where to find her because he doesn’t want to help her. Ursula tells her to either come home or stay on the streets, but if she comes back she better do exactly what Ursula tells her to, starting with apologizing for her crazy tantrum. Mal gives the phone back to Claudio. Mal turns on the tears and apologizes to Max.

Gerry asks Ivana if she’s ok. No, she’s nauseated. He thinks it’s the pregnancy, but she says it’s from disgust at her problems. She tells him about her meeting with the lawyers. He tries to turn her attention to the baby, showing her an article about her pregnancy and wedding. Ivana freaks out. “WHO TOLD THEM?! HOW DID THEY FIND OUT?!” (Answer: Susana). Gerry calms her down. He rips Dan out of the picture and says this is what she should be focusing on: herself and her baby. Ivana confesses that she lost the baby. That’s why she so desperately wants revenge against Dan and MD.

Alma calls Esperanza to blame Clara and MD for Leo and Max’s troubles. Both women defend their children. Alma says Espy's family only has morals on paper. She accuses MD of playing with Max’s feelings to get back at Dan. They hang up. Clara comes in towards the end of the conversation and tells Espy that Max is the one who told MD he has feelings for her.

Susana visits MD’s tailor shop. She tells MD that Ursula and Ivana are in cahoots to keep her and Dan apart. MD is skeptical, but listens. Susana tells her that Ursula and Maleny arranged the false wedding, without Dan’s knowledge. Ivana broke things off with Dan over that, but then Ursula filled her in and they (Ivana and Ursula) made up the high-risk pregnancy to get Dan to leave MD at the altar. Susana plays the recording of her and Ursula for MD and tells her that she heard Ursula forcing Dan to marry Ivana. Susana says she tried to tell Ivana, but Ivana preferred to buy a husband in Daniel and faked the pregnancy to do it.

Claudio and Max take Mal home. Ursula hugs and coddles Mal…until the second Claudio and Max leave. Then she tells Mal she would’ve preferred it if they’d brought her home in a body bag! Mal agrees. Ursula drags Mal into the office and tells her they still have time. She pulls a gun out and puts it on the desk between her and Mal.

“This isn’t what killed your father," Ursula says coldly. "You were. With the guts you had, you finished a job that that coward couldn’t.”

“Shut up,” Maleny whispers.

Ursula presses on, coldly. “Where is that little girl? When did you become useless, just like him? What, did you think by staying out one night, Max would feel guilty and come running back to you?”

Maleny moves woodenly, somewhere between rocking back and forth and nodding. “What did you want me to do?” She asks, in a tiny voice. In a flash, she morphs, snatching the gun off of the desk and bringing it to her chin. “Is this what you wanted me to do?!” she screams. Arango lunges toward her…
