Lo Imperdonable #85 Mon 9/14/15 Go reconfigure!

The ties that bind have been undone.  Families are falling apart.  Couples are uncoupling.  There is an epidemic of broken hearts.  Heroes are battered and bloody. Villains are on the ascendant.  But the mood on the Patio is upbeat.  (Besides, it's an open bar and Carlos is pouring.)

The Old

If Ireri's father hadn't already died, she would certainly have killed him with her overacting.

Lucía tells Pablo she can no longer be a witness to his self-destructive pursuit of Ana Perla.

Matilde is missing – and so is the -n- on the hospital sign.  Again.

The place sometimes seemed n-less, and so did the story.

¡Maldito infeliz!  ¡Él me tiene en sus manos!
(Damn bastard!  He has me in his hands!)
Salma overhears Virginia say these words aloud after her upsetting phone call.  Now Salma wants to know who has gotten Ginny's panties in a bunch... hmmm, poor choice of words, perhaps.

The New

Marty tells Verónica and Magdalena that Matilde is having a CT scan.  It appears that her condition is worse than they thought.  Oh no!  Maggie hugs Vero.

In the Empresas Prado Castelo, Jorge explains to Botel and Emiliano that their new client's order requires more gold than the Morenita can provide.  Emi says he will solve the problem.

Oh yeah?  Well I'll button my shirt when you lose the plaid, Botel.

Salma wants to know who called Virginia and upset her so much.  Ginny cranks out the tears and the lies: she says it was one of those con artists who say they have your mother kidnaped and demand ransom – and she doesn't even have a mother!  Imagine!  And with everything else she's going through!  Salma does her best to comfort her.  They will get through this together, she tells the tiny snake.

Botel tries to keep Jorge from getting his hopes up about Emi and Vero as a couple.  Jorge thinks the new jewelry project will give them a good opportunity to be together.

In the Álvarez digs in Mexico City, Blanquita is still missing.  Julio paces.  Raymunda the llorona turns on a dime and lashes out at Ana Perla.  This is all her fault!  (How long before Raymunda gets her own green stick?)

There's still no news about Mati.  When Vero goes to track down a nurse, Magdalena urges Marty to be patient with Vero.

Polo defends Ana Perla.  He tells his mother she wasn't even home when Blanquita left.  Raymunda shakes her head – Polo doesn't understand, she says.  Suddenly the door to the apartment opens and the Old Goat and Manny enter, both drunk as skunks and both bellowing for Blanquita.  Raymunda effectively shuts them up by telling them Blanquita has escaped gone out and hasn't returned.

We stopped for a ... hiccup... a... hiccup ... little ... pick-me-up.  Oh I crack myself up sometimes!

The doctor tells Vero, Marty and Magdalena that Mati's head injury has done more damage than they realized: she is unable to speak or move.  Is it reversible?  They can't say.  Maybe with therapy...

It's only pleather, I swear!  I'll even show you my PETA card!

Vero doesn't take the news well.  It's not fair!  She'll never hear her nana's voice again!  She angrily pushes away Magdalena and Marty and their attempts to comfort her.

Salma and Virginia arrive on the scene.  "Did Matilde die?" asks Ginny hopefully.  Magdalena explains.  "I'm sure the doctors did all they could," says Ginny with a shrug.  "Losing the ability to speak isn't so serious.  At least she's alive."  Magda gives Ginny the stink eye.

Don't even think about cutting into the line, sister!

As soon as Ginny turns her back on the grieving group, she smirks.

Arturo walks Blanca back to the apartment.  He tells her not to worry about her family scolding her for going out alone.  They'll be so happy to see her that they'll forget their anger.  He wants to see her again.  She doubts she'll be able to go out, but she'll be looking for him from her balcony.  They shake hands shyly. They have a hard time letting go.

Lucía confesses to Pablo that ever since his father abandoned them, he has been her whole life.  Nothing could possibly replace her love for him. [That sounds a little dysfunctional, Lucía.  And you were my token sane person.  Oh well.] She again begs him to forget Ana Perla.

In the Álvarez apartment, Manny is getting warmed up.  He, like Raymunda, blames Ana Perla for Blanquita's disappearance.

At that moment, the door opens and the prodigal daughter returns!  Manny pounces on her, grabs her, and throws her down on a chair.  He raises a fist to slug her.  When Ana Perla tries to hold him back, he slaps her.  Julio leaps in front of Ana Perla.  He won't allow Manny to touch her again.  Manny just laughs.

Did you hear the one about the painter and the miner's daughter?

Does Raymunda come to the girls' defense?  Of course not!  She joins the attack and accuses Blanca of being a bad daughter.  Then the Old Goat starts yelling at Raymunda for being a bad mother.  He's going to take over and keep Blanca and Ana Perla locked up until they are back in the pueblo. After all –

¿Qué quieres?  Que salga con su domingo siete?
(What do you want?  Do you want her to end up pregnant?)

"Lock them up!" he barks to Manuel.

Suddenly the Old Goat gasps and clutches his heart.  Hope spreads like wildfire all around the Patio. [Die, Old Goat!  Die!]  But alas, the OG seems to recover.  He brushes off Raymunda's concerns.

Then Manny brushes off Julio's attempts to restrain him as he shoves Blanca and Ana Perla into the bedroom.

Emi, Jorge and Botel have joined the vigil at the hospital.  Vero leans on Emi's manly chest.  Marty clearly feels left out and storms out of the room.

Hmmm...did I remember to turn off the stove?

Pablo says he'll never give up Ana Perla.  Lucía, fearing for her son's life, again begs him to stay away from her.  "I'm sorry," says Pablo gently.  And he heads out the door.  Lucía weeps.

Botel comes upon Martín sitting on the floor in the hallway and feeling very sorry for himself.  He admits he can't stand to see Emi and Vero together; and he can't stand to see Vero suffering and be unable to comfort her.  He realizes that Botel was right all along.  If he had listened to him [and abandoned his idea of revenge], he wouldn't be on the outs with Vero now.  Botel reminds Marty of his passionate love for Verónica and tells him not to give up.

Meanwhile, Emi and Vero console one another, joined in their grief in the face of Matilde's suffering.  "Now more than ever, I need a brother, a friend," says Vero.  Emi embraces her.  At that moment, Marty approaches, sees them together and turns away.

Jorge and Emi persuade Vero to come along for something to eat.  Marty stands alone and bangs his head against the wall.

Why?  Because it feels so good when I stop.

Vero has a little soup but is too upset to eat very much.  And she still wants to stay in the hospital with Matilde.  She admits that after overhearing Magdalena in the chapel [when she thanked Mati for mothering her], she finds Maggie's presence very comforting.  So it is agreed that Emi and Jorge will leave and Vero will stay.

O.M.G!  The Old Goat agrees to let Manuel control Blanquita and Ana Perla.  Otherwise, his rage is going to buy him a one-way ticket to the cemetery.  [So go, already.  The Patio's treat!]  Manuel, now feeling his oats, tells the Old Goat he's going to take care of Ana Perla's kid too.  "Don't do anything improper (indebido)," the Old Goat warns.  Not to worry, Manny tells him.  And by the way, it's about time he fired Julio.

This time, however, the Old Goat opposes his suggestion.  Maybe he should let Julio marry Ana Perla.  After all, who else would have her?

Mujer sin varón, ojal sin botón, says the Old Goat sagely.  (A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle buttonhole without a button.)

In the bedroom, Ana Perla is crying.  For a change.  Only now she's crying because she feels guilty about depriving Blanquita of her dream.  Blanquita, however,  sets her straight – there's nothing to cry about because she has met her own principe!  The girls rush out to the balcony.  And there's Arturo, smiling up at them.

Wanna buy a t-shirt, cutie?

Botel and Magdalena head back to the hotel.  Vero tells Marty that he should go too. (Fat chance of that!)

Pablo is disconcerted to see another stalker suitor waiting beneath the balcony of his beloved.  But he and Arturo quickly sort things out.  Pablo extends his injured right hand and Arturo shakes it.  [That should set the therapy back a few weeks.]

You talkin' to me?

Over supper in Mina Escondida, Gaby seems to be reciting from her term paper, "The self-actualizing woman."  She talks about how some married women spend so much time worrying about their children that when the kids are grown, they discover they have become estranged from their husbands.  And they don't understand that children need to find their own path, make their own mistakes and deal with the consequences.

He's nibbling at the bait... don't scare him off... don't rush him...

"You're preaching to the choir, sister," says Joaquín, recognizing that he and his little sunbeam (Rayito de sol is his nickname for his wife) don't exactly agree about how to raise their kids.  "We're so much alike," simpers Gaby.  "We're soul mates!"  (almas gemelas)  Sheesh!

Matilde opens her eyes!  Fortunately, Vero is there with her and talks so soothingly that Mati's initial despair at her condition seems to turn to hope. Vero notices that Mati can move her fingers.  Can she touch Vero's hand once for "no" and twice for "yes"?  Mati taps Vero's hand twice.  She understands and she can communicate!

I want to see my lawyer... and my agent!

While Raymunda is making a feeble attempt to argue with the Old Goat and he is waving his damn stick in the air, Pablo begins to climb up to the balcony as he did the other night.

No, no, no!  It's in D major!  Now start again!

But Manny rushes out and catches him.  He throws him down on the ground and pulls out the huge butcher knife we saw him sharpening earlier.  "Say goodbye to my sister, because you'll never deceive anyone again."

Don't move, okay?  I don't want to mess up again.

And with that, he lunges toward Pablo, aiming the knife at his heart.

He's in the zone now!

Ana Perla, who has seen all this from the balcony, falls in a dead faint.  Fortunately, the trajectory of her fall lands her inside the bedroom.

Wait!  It looks as if Pablo has repelled the attack!  Manuel springs backwards.

The Old Goat rejects Raymunda's attempt to sweet-talk him.  If she insists on arguing with him, she should go and be with her kids and her husband... with that man who hasn't acted like one!

You've been a very bad little girl, RayRay!

The knife falls to the ground, but so does Pablo after the next round.  Manuel picks up a huge rock.  "If I don't kill you, at least I can make sure you never use that hand again!"

In her panic over Ana Perla, who is still unconscious, Blanquita seems to have forgotten all about Pablo.  She calls to her mother.

Mati has closed her eyes.  Vero tells her she has to get better – she mustn't leave her alone!  She's the only one who never betrayed her...

The door to the hospital room opens and Marty's battered face appears.  He listens...

"... and you're the only one who loved me unconditionally.  Don't leave me alone."

Marty closes the door quietly.  He sinks to the floor, a soul in torment.

Blanquita finally remembers about Pablo.  She takes another look outside and reports that the fight is still going on.  We see Pablo pushing Manny away before the rock can come down on him.  Then Manny is on the ground and Pablo is kicking him.

Raymunda is in the bedroom scolding the girls.

Pablo picks up the rock and raises it over his head.  "You're not getting out of this one alive, you bastard!"  Before he can smash it over Manuel's head, however, Lucía appears out of nowhere.  "Nooooooooo!  You're not a murderer, Pablo!"  She pushes him away from Manny.

I'm gonna be a rock star, ma!

Now Julio comes running out of the house and tries to get rid of Pablo.  It's Ana Perla who will suffer if the Old Goat finds out about this.  Pablo begs Julio to tell him what Ana Perla is hiding from him.  Julio refuses.  He says he knows Pablo is suffering, but that Ana Perla is suffering even more.  "Tell her I love her!" says Pablo as his mother drags him away.

Julio looks down at Manuel, who writhes on the ground.

In Mina Escondida, Gaby has left Joaquín thinking about Raymunda's habit of putting her father's wishes first.  At that moment, Juancho comes to the door.  He invites Joaquín to come to El Purgatorio and join in the celebration over the new vein of gold discovered in La Morenita.

Claudia makes a splashy entrance in Purgatory.  She meets Ramón.  [Fill in fat jokes here.]

Really?  I usually go to the Wednesday evening Weight Watchers meeting!

Matilde dozes.  Vero dozes.

Marty wallows in despair.

Vero kneels and prays.  She dozes in a chair.

A man carrying a big bouquet of roses gives a single flower to Marty.

A rose!  The dude gave me a rose!

He slips into Mati's room and, holding the rose in his teeth, he covers Vero with a blanket, places the rose in her lap, and kisses her lightly on the lips.  Buenas noches, mi amor, he thought-bubbles.  He slips out again.

Pueblo Nuevo
Joaquín is talking to Raymunda on the phone in the hotel.  He's upset that she has allowed the Old Goat to overrule their decision about Blanquita.  Raymunda reminds Joaquín of everything her father has done for them.  She admits he can be a little bossy... Then the Old Goat himself grabs the phone and gives him an earful:  "Nobody contradicts my orders!"

But Joaquín isn't one to be bullied.  He rules in his house and the Old Goat has no business interfering!  ¡No ponga en entredicho mis decisiones! (Don't undermine my decisions!)

The Old Goat is getting quite red.  He puts a hand to his forehead.  [Die, Old Goat!  Die!] He sputters that Joaquín is no one to tell him what to do.  He is an insolent ingrate – and he is fired!

At the -n- less Hospital, Vero wakes up and discovers the blanket and the rose.  ¡Ay, Martín! she mutters grumpily.  She puts the rose on Mati's bed and carries the blanket out of the room...

And then she sees Marty curled up on the floor, sound asleep.

Aww! He looks like an angel when he's asleep!

She unfolds the blanket and covers him.  She can't resist stroking his hair.  She kisses his cheek lightly.  Descansa, (rest) she whispers.  Then she heads back into Mati's room.

The sound of the door wakes Marty up.  He sees the blanket...

Avances:  The maid finds a mysterious fragment at the bottom of the stairs.  Will it be enough to implicate Virginia in Mati's fall?

Not such an exciting episode, but still kind of fun. Enjoy the show!

NovelaMaven, your recap created all kinds of fun, especially the screen caps! Emi and Botel challenging shirt choices was great! Also loved the constant cheering for gramps/OG to die already and keeping the watch on the hospital N.

Vero's red jumpsuit is a fashion hit, but it seems like past time for her to change clothes. Ay, the drama, the drama! And Marty curled up like a faithful watchdog.

Wonderful recap!!

Is it me or are the writers playing with us? How many times has someone almost killed Manny and then been stopped? They know we all want him dead so they keep setting us up! Now they've thrown OG into it too! Will he or won't he die? lol

Do we know how many episodes are in this TN?

I think it is time for Joaquin to go get his family. I'm sure he could get a job working Marty's mine.

I wish Emi would go back to ME. I want to see him and Nanci hook up again!

Thanks for your nice words, La Paloma and Carvivlie.

La Paloma,

"Vero's red jumpsuit is a fashion hit, but it seems like past time for her to change clothes."

I know, right? I guess they've just slowed down time and spread a single day over a few episodes, but from the Patio, it certainly feels as if those clothes must be pretty ripe by now. :-)

Carvivlie,

"Is it me or are the writers playing with us? How many times has someone almost killed Manny and then been stopped? They know we all want him dead so they keep setting us up! Now they've thrown OG into it too! Will he or won't he die?"

hahaha! Well I think they're playing with us and probably having a blast themselves.

I agree that it's time for Joaquín to get his family back (and stop that hussy Gaby in her tracks). I also look forward to seeing Emi, Nanciyaga and the snails.

No idea about episodes. Maybe someone else knows?

NovelaMaven - Muchas gracias for your spectacular recap!

Loved your opening: If Ireri's father hadn't already died, she would have killed him with her overacting. Couldn't agree more.

The screen caps were great. My favorites:

"Don't even think about cutting into the line, sister! (Magda and Martin to Virginia)

"No, no, no! It's in D major!" (Old Goat)

"A rose. The dude gave me a rose." (Martin)

Loved all references to "Die, Old Goat, Die!" Manny needs to die with him, and if Raymunda keeps it up, I'll be wishing that for her too. Right now, I just wish they'd send her to a psychiatric facility where maybe she could develop some sense of integrity towards herself and the women in her household. I continue to love Polo's defense of Ana Perla.

Looking forward to Emi, Nanciyaga, and the snails too!

Great Recap NovelaMaven. The screen captures are so witty! The shirts one killed me!

At this point I'm cheering for Gaby to sweep Joaquin off his feet and away from Raymunda. If Raymunda doesn't put a stop to her 2nd Family (OG and Manny) and doesn't put her 1st Family first (Joaquin, Blanquita, Polo and even AP as a niece who DOES need serious help!) then I'm all for a Divorcio in the Green Hell. No one deserves to be undermined and voted against in a good marriage.

I'm going to assume that even being a Nana that Matilde does know how to read and write. Maybe not today maybe not tomorrow but won't SOMEONE hand her a pen and paper so she can at least try to explain how she feels AND how she fell? Bueller???

I agree with the consensus the red jumpsuit is spot on but V has not changed since the Wedding! Get a change of clothes and some Secret girl!

Hi Mari!

"...if Raymunda keeps it up, I'll be wishing that for her too. Right now, I just wish they'd send her to a psychiatric facility where maybe she could develop some sense of integrity towards herself and the women in her household."

yeah, Raymunda is just a bundle of self-loathing, isn't she? It's too bad she didn't hear what Magdalena said yesterday about the harm women do to their kids by allowing themselves to be abused. In this case, it's her father, not her husband, who's the abuser. And the Old Goat was full of misogynist rants last night!

Hi JackieV!

"I'm all for a Divorcio in the Green Hell. No one deserves to be undermined and voted against in a good marriage."

Great point. The only thing that keeps me from signing on is that we've seen how much these people seem to love each other and their children. Raymunda needs to wake up. I can't quite give Gaby a free pass on this one. :-)

"I'm going to assume that even being a Nana that Matilde does know how to read and write. Maybe not today maybe not tomorrow but won't SOMEONE hand her a pen and paper so she can at least try to explain how she feels AND how she fell?"

I get the impression that Mati is an educated woman. Let's hope she lives long enough to get to the pen and paper stage. Unfortunately, lots of people get bumped off in telenovela hospitals!

Thanks so much to both of you for stopping by! Enjoyed your comments.

Wonderful recap NovelaMaven! Yes, kind of a slow episode but you had me laughing right from the beginning: "But the mood on the Patio is upbeat. (Besides, it's an open bar and Carlos is pouring.)"

The screen shots and captions were magnificent. Here are more of my favorite lines:

"They will get through this together, she tells the tiny snake."
"Suddenly the Old Goat gasps and clutches his heart. Hope spreads like wildfire all around the Patio. [Die, Old Goat! Die!]"

If I keep going I will end up copying your entire recap! Thanks again, now back to work. (:-(

Mari and I are "almas gemelas" today. I too loved the quip about Ireri able to kill her dad with her overacting, if he weren't gone already. Actually, Ireri ALWAYS overacts, but most of the time I enjoy the actress' frantic attempts to make a LASTING IMPRESSION. But this time, just unnecessary and annoying.

And, like Mari, my favorite screen cap was the "Don't dare ditch in line, sister! Perfect for those iron-hard faces.

Always enjoy the fight choreography in this one, and must say Blanquita's vault and flip into the chair after Manual started to thrash her was gold medal worthy.

And admit, word nerd that I am, that I was hoping you'd give us "Mujer sin varón, ojál sin botón." Traditional. Pithy. Colorful. Folklorique...... Sexist. Well, you can't have everything.

Agree with NovelaMaven, that our formerly rational Pablo-Mama has deteriorated into dysfunctional. As have Raymunda and Don Cresencio. Alas, under stress, most of us do. Would that people would rise nobly to greater heights of wisdom and understanding in these moments, but in my experience, it's quite the opposite.

As you said, Oh well....

Thanks for another splendid recap. I do admit taking a sly pleasure in Virginia's little grins of glee, after she's slipped out of one more noose. But it won't last forever! Justice still reigns in telenovelas.

JudyB - mi "alma gemela" por el dia

I have to admit too I enjoy Virginia's side grins...knowing that in the end she'll get at least as good as she gives, and probably a lot more.

One more thing...Salma asks Ginny what's got her panties in a bunch..."Poor choice of words perhaps". Ha. Another howler. Love it.

Okay, Mari. It's official. We're alma gemelas. I'm down with that. And we'll sneak over to Carlos' table and make a toast or two with whatever he's serving.

Have a good day everybody. It's glorious here. Which is NOT typical Ohio weather, I can tell you.

NovelaMaven -

I have to wonder whether Raymunda would even be affected by what Magdalena said about women who allow themselves to be abused. My impression is that she's got a sick dependency on her father and doesn't do anything to try to reign in Manny's behavior either. Que lastima!

Mari,

"My impression [of Raymunda] is that she's got a sick dependency on her father and doesn't do anything to try to reign in Manny's behavior either. Que lastima!"

True. I'd add that she seems like a weak person. She needs Joaquín's physical presence to help her overcome her own worst instincts and avoid being completely manipulated by her father. Maybe it's time for her to build some moral muscles of her own!

Those screencaps were delicious , NovelaMaven. My favorite was the one about the shirts . So right on.

EW..I do not want to think about Ginny's panties..bunched or otherwise. #shudderrrr

About that scene with CrazyBeatenup Marty sleeping on the floor ...Jamie did that outside Claire's inn room in Outlander...and sooo verra much sexier. I get verra tired of Marty's hangdog expression....man up.

LoriLoo, I'm delighted that you enjoyed the recap. Thanks for taking time out of your busy day to let me know!

JudyB,

"Always enjoy the fight choreography in this one, and must say Blanquita's vault and flip into the chair after Manual started to thrash her was gold medal worthy."

Yup! Glad you pointed it out! The fights on these things are more West Side Story than say, gritty police procedural. (And maybe in real life, the actor who plays Manuel is a prince among men, devoted to the dance.

And I share your and Mari's pleasure in Virginia's hammy villainy. That's one of the Mejía traits I adore. There is always an element of comedy lurking under the exaggerated malice. At the same time, there's a raw emotionality that sucker-punches you when you least expect it.

So you liked my howler, huh? You know, your comment makes me think of Cap'n Sharkbait – it's the kind of thing she would have hooted at, I believe.

Muchas gracias, amiga!

Thank you, Susanlynn!

"I get verra tired of Marty's hangdog expression....man up. "

I can see that. For some reason, I'm getting kind of fond of Marty these days. I rather like the melancholic CrazyMarty "curled up like a faithful watchdog," as La Paloma so aptly expressed it. :-)

Hi NovellaMaven, good recap. What makes it good is that I know whats being said. I don't
Have cc3 on my tv, I wish I did. My brother has it on his, and hes into the tns now. He just didn't know how to get the caption, I
Did and now he watches. Hes got cc3, and I
Got yall, yaaaay!!!! God bless the recapers.
Now, about last nite. I don't know about yall,
but I am sick and tired of being sick and tired of seeing the old goat and Manny physically abused these women in this family and when the hell are they going to get sick of it? this is TV, in real life manny would be in critical care in the hospital and the old goat would be dead. And Raymunda what the hell is her problem why she can't seem to get herself away from her stupid dad and cling to her husband and her children and act like a mother should act, and defend her children from this abuse? This ain't even funny. and who the hell put him in charge of the family I don't care what the customs are this is wrong. The way manny grabbed blanca and
Threw her on the seat and then slapped ana.
and what the hell is wrong with Julio, why Is he letting these men abuse these women like this? hes claiming to love one of them and she's pregnant. they don't even care if shes pregnant they want to kill the baby anyway.
Jaoquin need to get on a boat and get his but to Mexico City before those fools kill his children. Causes his sorry wife ain't know
Help at all.
I think this is so cute: I don't know if you meant it that way:
Matilda doses
Vero doses
Marty wallows In despair.
Vero kneels and prays. ← ← ←
She dozes in the chair. ↑
A bright spot in this episode.↑

THANK YOU--THANK YOU NovelaMaven---Your first paragraph starting with The ties that bind have been undone, is a gold star winner. I think that I have read it five times. I am in awe of some of the recappers. I wish that I could write and express myself like you guys do but I guess that it is a gift that some are blessed with and some of us are not.

Loved your screen shots. No, No, No. It's in D major! Now start again.

Did I forget to turn off the stove?

In fact Novela, there were so many great screen shots, if I mentioned them all it would take up the whole page.

I wish to join the chorus of Die Old Goat Die.

I thought that V-snake would start working on bringing Dr. Carlos some more patients, but I guess that I am a little over anxious. She bound to start up her activities soon though.

Looks like Mati may have gotten a reprieve even though her condition is bad. I mean that if Mati can't talk, V-snake might feel safe enough to let her be. Dr. F just might be the viper's first victim.

Ireri's overacting at her father's death. Yes I do admit that that was quite a scene but when we are presented with scenes like that, isn't it the fault of the director? The director probably told her to really pour it on don't you think?

I have been thinking about that missing "n" in the hospital sign. Has anyone noticed that there might be two sign's. One above the front entrance and another above the rear entrance? Maybe that is why sometimes we see the "n" and at other times we don't.

I almost forgot---I kept thinking that the new guy Arturo would come to Pablo's defense last night but it didn't happen. Did anyone else have the same thought?

I would like to see Emi go back to Mina Escondita and reunite with Nanciyaga. Don't know why but I enjoyed those earlier scenes.

Can't wait foe tonight---must see tv.
the gringo

Thanks so much NovelaMaven for the recap.

It is so sad to see Martin no being able to comfort Vero. I loved the scene so much at the end. A very nice gesture from Vero and Martin. I hope Vero forgives him soon and not at the end of the TN. Martin does love her but he brought this on himself.

Thanks again.

I have to agree with JudyB and Mari---As much as I loathe V-snake's character, I do love Grettell Valdez's acting. She's superb, A shining star. A dark star but a star nevertheless. Her smirky smile after she heard of Mati's condition was priceless. Pour another gin and tonic at the Ginny table Carlos. I won't be joining you but since the show has started, there might be one or two that drop by.

the gringo

Ohmigosh...just went back to title page and saw the caption "this hospital sometimes is n-less and so does the story! (or words to that effect) Delightful. Yes, we're knee-deep in the n-less phase right now. And honestly, if Anna Perla cries one more time, I'm going to grab a green stick and thrash her myself!

NovelaMaven that was superb! Clarified quite a bit for me so thanks very much!

The thing that affected me the most in last night's episode was the OG and Manny beating up on Blanca and AP. I really think putting that into the script is totally unnecessary and shocking. Is that how men still treat women in Mexico? Of course, because that's how men treat women all over the world. Fortunately, they are in the minority, but why include it in a TN? I've seen too many instances of it in TNs. A one-time incident to make an abuse point in the story is one thing, but why over and over? I find it extremely offensive.

I do agree with Gringo, let Gaby form a nice relationship with Joaquin. He's put up with enough from Raymunda and OG. No one should have their father-in-law in the middle of their marriage.

Yes, Marty is suffering and I am glad. It's about time. His treatment of Veronica is unforgivable - where were his brain cells? That he couldn't put two (V-necklaces) together?

Missed Virginia last night, but sure she will emerge very soon in a big way:) Hope that AP marries Julio and that Manny falls on his knife and the OG dies of a heart attack at the sight of it. AP will need help and protection throughout and Julio is just the man for the job. And he is muy guapo!

I'm sure that Mati can read and write, wouldn't she have to as a Nanna? Wouldn't she have read books to Veronica and Virginia? Didn't she read one of Virginia's letters?

Gale

I've been lurking since the start of this TN, here and there since I didn't want to commit but here I am, hooked thanks to the amazing recaps! I agree this episode was no fun but this recap was! "How long before Raymunda gets her own green stick?" Hilarious! I guess the writers really want us to dislike her so we don't feel bad when the schoolmarm steals her husband. I;m really disappointed by that story line though, it's unnecessary and I was hopeful the teacher was going to be a love interest for poor Julio.

My favorite line: "Hope spreads like wildfire all around the Patio. [Die, Old Goat! Die!]..." Can we get a chorus started of "Die, Manny! Die!" I laughed when Pablo kicked him, hoped the bullet wound opened up!

Thanks again for this enjoyable recap NovelaMaven!

Nina,
Thanks for stopping by. I always enjoy your comments so it seems only fair that my recap is helping you enjoy the show a little more.

"this is TV, in real life manny would be in critical care in the hospital and the old goat would be dead."

Oh yeah. It's amazing that those two fools just keep going like a couple of evil aguardiente-fueled Energizer bunnies!

Wow Gringo, I'm honored. And rest assured, there will always be a place for you in the chorus of Die Old Goat Die!

You know, I've often wondered how much directorial help these actors really get. Sometimes it seems like they're on their own and have to depend on their own experience and knowledge.

"I almost forgot---I kept thinking that the new guy Arturo would come to Pablo's defense last night but it didn't happen. Did anyone else have the same thought?"

yup, I thought the same thing. I thought Arturo was still across the street and would come running when the trouble started. (Maybe he WAS running – in the opposite direction!)

You're very welcome, Duchess! I agree that the last scene with Marty and Vero was very sweet. It's clear that she still has strong feelings for him, but I'm not sure she's ready to let him off the hook yet. I guess we'll have to see what happens tonight. :-)

Oh JudyB, you know how pleased I am when someone notices one of my silly jokes. Thank you! (I see no one has mentioned the title. Oh well, you can't have it all! [snort])

Hi Gale!
My pleasure! You're right about the physical (and verbal and emotional) abuse. It CAN be hard to watch. I suppose the point is that these guys are monsters and sooner or later, will get what they deserve. Actually, I take that back. Manny is a monster and beyond redemption. The Old Goat sometimes seems like a decent human being. He may yet be redeemed.

You're also right – we did see Mati reading one of Vero's letters.

Hi Lily!

I'm so glad you decided to come out from lurkerdom and join us here on the Patio of Lowered Expectations. Thanks so much for your kind words. It's always fun to know someone is enjoying our recaps.

"I guess the writers really want us to dislike [Raymunda] so we don't feel bad when the schoolmarm steals her husband. I;m really disappointed by that story line though, it's unnecessary and I was hopeful the teacher was going to be a love interest for poor Julio."

I feel that way too. I saw the story line building but kept hoping the writers wouldn't go there (which I have found is almost always a predictor that they will!)

Hope to see you around here again!

Gringo -

I noticed that too last night, that the Hospital Center signs were different, and I thought that's probably why sometimes there's a missing "n".

Well said. Virginia's a dark star, but a star nonetheless. Very talented actress.

NovelaMaven -

The Patio of Lowered Expectations...hilarious.

Lily -

Glad you've joined us! I agree that the writers are probably doing their best to make Raymunda look bad to make room for a new love in Joaquin's life....and they're going a great job of it.

Yeah veronica could probably use a good hot shower about now. Martin should go get her
A change of clothes. Yall I know he done her
Wrong but he is being so remorseful and so
Sweet to her. I'm sorry emi but you need to
Back off. Emi belongs with the lady with the
Snails, they make a good pair.
The film cuts are funny novella, a rose, dude
Gave me a rose."
Ok lets see what tonite brings us.

NovelaMaven, I'm so eager to read your recaps, that I don't even look at the title. Truth. Really. But your play on those ol' words "Go figure" is great. Worthy of notice and appreciation. Thanks for pointing it out, amiga mia. You know I'm a fan of all things NM, just not always "a la altura".

NovelaMaven,
I am extremely late, but had to say thank you for this awesome recap. I don't know how you do it.

I could not believe that Gramps and Manny were at it AGAIN last night. And Reymunda too. What the heck is their problem. I hated seeing it, but I was not surprised to see Manny push Blanquita and slap AP. But the fact that Reymunda was OK with it really angered me. In my eyes that makes her a bad mother. How could she let that happen right in front of her. Grrr!

Mauricio,
I don't know if you will read this, but I had to thank you for Friday's recap. Sorry I did not get a chance to tell you til today. I was gone since Friday, up until Sunday night. By that time I was exhausted. But I wanted to thank you because your recaps are always excellent.

Hasta Pronto.

Oh gosh, Judy, if you're not "a la altura," then I don't know who is. It's just that I don't always hit the note, that's all. Anyhow, thanks for indulging me. :D

You're welcome, AuntyAnn! It's never too late because the Patio is open 24/7. I'm very happy you enjoyed the recap.

"I was not surprised to see Manny push Blanquita and slap AP. But the fact that Reymunda was OK with it really angered me. In my eyes that makes her a bad mother."

It's true, under the undiluted influence of the Old Goat and Manny, Raymunda is letting the worst part of her nature guide her behavior. She WAS a bad mother last night. She hasn't always been like this. (Maybe in her case, the Old Goat was right: Mujer sin varón, ojal sin botón. Joaquín is her moral compass.)

Thanks once again for another super fantastic recap, NovelaMaven. Your captioned screen caps are non pareil. Well, OK, Mauricio does a very good job with the genre as well. Your recap is simply perfection. My favorite line:

"That sounds a little dysfunctional, Lucía. And you were my token sane person."

Too funny.

This is a close second:

"She admits he can be a little bossy..."

Yes, but perhaps unlike some, even with his recent violence toward women I think that he's salvageable. It'll take some doin', however.

It thrills me to see that Virginia is getting the recognition that she deserves here on the Patio. I think everyone (even the gringo) understand why I admire her so much.

Claudia and Ramón? Why not?

Carlos

Yes she is a bad moma, jaoquin need to find a boat and start rowin, cause his in-laws are
Crazy. She keep this up she'll give him a good reason to cheat. don't condone the cheating, but she pushin It with her very bad mothering skills. Blanca is her daughter, no
Way I'd allow someone to treat my child the
Way manny did. And at the command of
That, I could call him something else but I'm a civilized person so I just let it go to the old goat.

I had a very long day today and wasn't able to stop by the Patio until now. Thank you so much NovelaMaven for a fabulous recap -- which was better than the actual episode. Loved the title as well as the screen caps and all the witty captions.

I loved "Die, Old Goat! Die!" -- and I was cheering right along with you and everyone else on The Patio.

Pablo kicking Manny in the colon. I loved it. Take that, Manny!

Old Goat, Manny, & Raymunda .. no words.

Glad that Mati is ok.

I loved Joaquin standing up to Grandpa Goat. Now that he's been fired he should go and work for La Morenita.

Marty should listen to Vero and get his face cured. And Vero does need a change of clothes as does Marty.

Carvivlie, the Mexican broadcast is on episode 106 as of September 14, and the final episode is supposed to be on Sunday, October 4 - so that should mean 121 episodes if they continue Monday-Friday for these final three weeks. I think I read somewhere that the final episode would be 2 hours too, but I don't remember where.

Univision either skipped an episode or edited two together because episode 85 shown on September 14 in the US was number 86 in Mexico.

Carlos, you are much too kind. You know very well that with my screen caps, I am blatantly copycatting you and Mauricio both. Now that I've finally figured out how to do it, I find it irresistible.

Yes, Virginia is finally getting her props around here.

The problem with Ramón and Claudia is that the guy is dead broke. On the other hand, perhaps we have a new Claudia, one who is willing to give up the millionaire Frenchie because she doesn't love him. Could THIS Claudia fall for Ramón/Jamón? Nah.

Mauricio, you're very welcome. And thank you for mentioning the title. :-)

"Pablo kicking Manny in the colon. I loved it. Take that, Manny!"

I know, right? I wanted the old surgical incision to pop right open then and there. (I could be wrong, but I don't think this is doing great things for our moral development.)

J, thanks for answering Carvivlie's question about the probable number of episodes.

Wonderful recap!

The missing "N" has always caught my eye and to have it woven in to the recap with such wit made me smile. I too am enjoying Grettel's devious portrayal, although I have to say the shrill when she starts crying can be like nails on a chalkboard for me.

I'm glad to see others are as bothered by the physical abuse that Blanquita and Ana Perla are being subjected to. It's awful and I don't see how a grandfather who claims to love his grandchildren can behave that way. He doesn't deserve the love or respect that his granddaughters have given him. I'm just waiting for the day when all the women in that house finally tell him what a controlling overbearing and abusive a-hole he really is, right before they turn and leave! THEN he can die...alone.

I want Manny to suffer a horrible and agonizing death. Perhaps buried alive in one of the mines he dreams of being his one day. As he's dying, gasping for air he would be haunted by all of his sins and abuse as he screams and struggles for air.

And where are my manners? Thank you NovelaMaven for a superb recap. I have been reading here for quite a long time and all the recappers are so wonderful and witty. Thank you to this wonderful community of bloggers, it's such a wonderful way to further enjoy these campy stories.

Dear Delilah127,

Thanks so much for the kind words. It's great to know you found your way to this little community – We're definitely your people! See you again soon, I hope.

I'm pretty sure Manny will have a horrible end. It's hard to say what will (or even what should) happen to Grandpa Goat. I guess we'll just have to keep watching if we want to find out. :-)
