Yo No Creo En Los Hombres #41 Tue 9/8/15: Hit The Road Jack! Or Something Like That

Max and Maria Doloris’s seriously dating has put a serious dent in the evening’s epicurean event.  Max’s parents tell Maria Doloris and family that they’re totally opposed to having Max become seriously involved with a scheming criminal like her.  Esperanza and Max both defend her and her daughters’ upbringing and fight the accusations once again as baseless.  They leave with their heads held high.  Max tells Alma and Claudio they had no right to humiliate decent people like that.  Claudio insists they’re not so decent, really.

Claud goes off on Alma for not telling him ahead of time about their son.  She begs off saying if Maleny hadn’t just shown up with the news she might have had a chance.  He tells Leo and Clara that he’s not upset with their relationship and it can continue.  Clara says nope: love me, love my dog--and all its fleas.  Thanks but no thanks!

Doris drops by while Ari is dripping venomous veracities all around Orlando about Isela dumping him for her boss.  She snubs Ari who tries to make a dinner date with her.  She takes Orly by the hand and tells him he’s a turd for believing Ari’s trash talk instead of enjoying his honeymoon.  Ise spent the night at her place—NOT with her boss!

Ari walks in on Doris at the tailoring shop and professes his grand amor for her but she’s disgusted and tells him to talk to the hand.  He’s got all the “skinny” and “money” he ever could need with Maleny.  His excuse is that he only stuck with Mal because she promised him they’d live off her and Max once Mal snagged him.  Doris is even more disgusted.  She puts the pieces of his perverted, convoluted and all-out crappy plan together and sees how twisted the whole idea was/is.  (Hey, Ari may be a hunk of prime beefcake, but the dumb bell he works out with it the one attached at the top of his neck!)  Doris is one disgusted dame asks him what he must have been thinking then: that he’d support their relationship off Max and Mal???  How sick!  She’s got two hands and can work for a living, she tells him.  Ari insists he’s telling Doris this because he wants Mal off his neck and needs to explain why he’s still seeing her.  Doris says too bad the plans fell through now that Max is seriously dating MD and screams for him to get the hell out of her face and never come back.

Alma and Claud are still griping over what just happened during the dinner.  How could their sons both have gotten involved with that family, moans Claudio.  Why don’t they consider good morals and values above all, agrees Alma.  Claudio speaks without thinking: “--because when a man is interested in a woman he doesn’t think about those things…..er… and even less at Leo’s age.”  He can only hope Max will wise up after a while when all her problems start mounting up for him.  The look on Alma’s face is classic helpless protective mother.

A bit later, MD and Max chat and she makes it clear that she’s not dumping him over what his family thinks of her.   Max is all happy happy joy joy cuz he thought it was splitsville.     No, MarDi says she’s no longer the naïve fool she was when she loved Dan.  And, especially not after what she’s gone through with Daniel and Ivana.  She’s got other taco shells to deep fry.

Isa meets up with Alma finally at a corner café to discuss Orly’s problems.  Ise blames Alma for Orly and her breaking up she says, cuz he’s had to sell the business due to the agreement he made with Alma.  Alma has second thoughts and explains she only did it cuz Orly wouldn’t agree not to hire Leo back at the shop again.  However, Ise can tell him she’s cancelling the demand.  Orly doesn’t have to sell the shop now.  (He’s got another job somewhere else now, anyway.) No harm no foul.  Just, don’t tell Claudio, ok?

After Max leaves, MD heads over to Julians to explain her feelings and ask forgiveness for hurting him.  They make their peace.  (Stop! It!  ¡Basta!  The guy’s physically handicapped, not mentally— though, come to think of it, who’s to say he’s not emotionally handicapped, considering the way Mama Honoria’s pampered him all this time.  Sheesh!)  FF>>FF>>

Across town, Ursula and her two bear cubs giggle over Ivana the vaca and Max’s failed attempt at dinner to get his parents to accept Maria Doloris as his formal steady girl.  But then Danny Boy becomes secretly upset to think that he’s lost MD to his rival, Max, after all.

On the bad side of the tracks again, Ise tells Orly the good news regarding Alma’s change of heart.  He apologizes for not showing up at the RC and wonders if she’s still interested in him.  She begs off for more time.  He says he doesn’t need any more time.  She says all the bad stuff that happens to keep them apart must be signs from above that their relationship isn’t meant to be.  And, once again, she leaves him with a lump in his throat as well as his pants.

Alma gets home then and lies that she met Mal for coffee.  Max walks in on them and they argue over his choice of women.
Ise and MD reminisce over their playing brides marrying Julian and Orlando.  Life happens and there’s a great divide between reality and children’s fantasies.  FF>>FF>>

The next morning, Fermin, Honoria and Sonny also make their peace.  Juli tells Papa he can stay.  Hugs all ‘round.  FF>>FF>>

At the same time, MD has an unexpected knock at the door.  Dan forces his way inside the apartment and grabs her by force.  He nearly suffocates her trying to forcibly kiss her but eventually she breaks free.  He insists she’s still in love with him and vice versa and is only dating Max to get even with him.  She says think again, sucker!  I love Max more than I ever loved you!

Over at Ivaca’s house, Max turns down a wedding invitation from Iva.  Why invite her if she knows MD would never come?  Iva has nothing to hide.  It’s to rub MD’s nose in the fact that she’s lost Dan to her forever.  Iva offers to forget the lawsuit if he brings MD to her wedding.  It seems like emotional blackmail, no?  Max leaves the invitation with Iva and refuses it.  He is not going to submit MD to that kind of humiliation and for what?

==============================
At the law office once again, Ise chats with Juli about the news that Fermin’s his papi and how he had to open the door to the closet and let all the family skeletons fall.  He advises her to do the same.

Max heads over to MarDi’s to give her the news. She says it’s a woman thing, not a legal thing, this business with the invitation.  Finally she agrees to go, saying she might as well be sure that the lawsuit is a thing of the past.  (Viewerville screams again at the t.v.: “Sucker!”)

Downstairs in Claudio’s office, Ise learns that Claud has smoothed over the legal problem that Josefa’s caused him.  Well, not so fast.  He’s got enemies from over the years who now want to investigate Jose.  Ruh-Roh!  Ise says he can’t allow that because they’d certainly find out about him and Ise!  “--There’s nothing between us!  And besides, you’re with Orlando.”  Not now, she says.  She’s too hot for Claudio’s huesos to have anything more to do with Orly.  She can’t cheat on Orly so she’s called it off.  (Really?)  Orly doesn’t deserve it.  “—Well, neither do I.  All this time you’ve lied to me that you two were only friends.”  She wonders why he can’t see it.  They both love their other halves, but what’s between them is something quite apart from that.   That’s all that Claudio has to hear.  He gives in to the inner passion and they begin locking lips and, we assume, it progresses from there.

At the tailoring shop, Espy has doubts.  Enough’s enough.  MD shouldn’t go to the wedding.  Doris disagrees—respectfully, of course—and says hey, if it takes that silly lawsuit off the table then why not?  (Cuz Ivaca must have other, more humiliating plans in mind that day!)  MD then mentions how Dan forced his way into the apartment and got aggressive with her.  She agrees and says it’s a matter of who holds their head higher, her or Daniel?  She’s going and that’s that!

Clara and Leo commiserate over the lousy luck at the dinner the other day. FF>>

Max visits Juli to apologize for not taking time to explain his and MD’s dating.  They make peace.

Downstairs again, Claudio breaks free of Ise’s embraces and tells her she drives him wild, but that he’ not going to jeopardize all he’s earned professionally over her, much less his family.  (Think again, oh swami.)    She promises to hide in the shadows.  Yeah?  How about your mother.  She’s a royal pain and a dangerous lunatic.  She promises to take care of Mama and Orly both if he agrees to their continuing the affair.  And anyway, it’s truly over between Orly and her.  “—From now on, if you want, you’ll be the only man in my life.”

Alma phones Mal to inform her that Max is going to Dan and Iva’s wedding after all.  Mal is fit to be tied.  That would wreck her plans of venganza through the lawsuit.  Grrrsul is thinking more practically.  Grrrsula suggests that they’ll simply have to find a way to prevent Max from showing up at the wedding.  With him out of the picture, he won’t have a chance to ignore Mal and it will keep tongues from wagging about how he dumped her.

Ivana and Gerry discuss Max’s refusal.  However, he’s more interested in the P.R. aspects of things.  He’s going to see that the press treats her right and makes out her wedding to be the event of the year.  Max then calls to tell her he and MD have changed their minds.  She tells Gerry.  He suddenly looks worried.

A bit later Iva and Gerry meet with Urrrrsula and Mal to discuss her paying off Urrrrsula’s mortgage as a wedding gift to Dan.  Afterwards, Mama tries getting hold of Danny Boy to give him the good news.  She finally locates him at some high end strip club, drunk as a skunk, enjoying a bachelor party for one, and bemoaning the fact that he can’t have the woman he truly loves.  Don’t count on him coming to the wedding, much less any honeymoon!  Click!  Mal applauds the scene (and their iffy, on-again-off-again chances of really cashing in).

Wow, great job Jardinera. I have to admit that I got weepy a few times. Julian, Max, and Doris are so wonderful. I really like how these good characters stand up for themselves and don't let others run them around or fool them.

So Isela is willing to be "the other woman"? That's so stupid of her.

Thanks, Jardinera. My favorite line: Doris drops by while Ari is dripping venomous veracities

Claudio and Alma are so foolish to think Max would drop MD because they don't approve. They can't even get Leo to drop Clara and he's in high school.

I fell asleep and I'm sorry I missed all of Doris's scenes, but so glad I missed Claudio and Ise getting comfy again. When Ise says she'll settle for being Claudio's side piece, I think this is just a ploy to keep him reeled in. Josefa has schooled her well.

Poor Ivana. Even if she wins, she loses. Hope it doesn't take her the whole TN to realize getting even with vultures like Dan and Ursula is impossible.

Great work, Jardinera.

I am guessing that the condition of paying off the Santibanez mortgage is that full ownership would pass to Ivana, who would wait until the right moment to evict them. That will be worthy of a toast.

Ivana needs to understand that MD isn't her problem; they could be great allies. They would make a fortune if they also brought Doris into the business and designed clothes for queen-sized women. I'd do their ad campaign!

Isela is young and naive enough to get off on being The Other Woman, but after a while it's not so great. And she needs to get away from her Mommy Direst. Yesterday would be good.

Jar--I'm so glad you are on the recap team for YoNo. It's such a delicious pleasure to read your craft(iness) with words.

About Isa meets up with Alma finally at a corner café to discuss Orly’s problems. I loved the little detail of Alma's concern with safety and has taken off her jewelry and is taking off her earring as Isa arrives. She asks if Isa thinks they are really safe there? Yup, slummin' can be dangerous.

About (Stop! It! ¡Basta! The guy’s physically handicapped, not mentally— though, come to think of it, who’s to say he’s not emotionally handicapped, considering the way Mama Honoria’s pampered him all this time. Sheesh!) Excellent observation and good counsel. However, MD doesn't make it easy, batting her pretty eyes, looking at him almost longingly and EMBRACING him--not just giving him a friendly hug.

About MD then mentions how Dan forced his way into the apartment and got aggressive with her. Doris thinks MD should runtelldat to Max. MD feels it would only fan the flames and Max would take after Dan for another 10-round knock-down drag out. I think she's right. OTOH, if she doesn't tell Max and Dan later taunts Max about having a kissy-face session with MD, she's in a pickle.

I wish they had chosen a slightly better looking actor for Claudio. I have to admit he's doing an admirable job of portraying this super stiff judge and family man with a perverted side to him. It would have made it easier for Viewerville to believe Isa is really falling for him--OR IS IT A MIRAGE?

WHAT? Dan is going to skip his own wedding? That'll be fun to watch.

Jardinera
Your writing style is so entertaining that I laugh at almost every line you write because you have a unique way of recapping.

"love me, love my dog---and all its fleas

I missed the part that Claudio said to Isela that the charges/demand had been dropped. I just thought he said his enemies would go after him since there was a rape / violation demand against him.

I was also thinking that if Isela was going to get off on being The Other Woman the guy should at least be hot. Like Cesar Evora at the right weight.

Thank you for the recap Jardinera!

I think I'd take humiliation over a law suit with possible criminal charges, but I don't trust Ivana with keeping her word.

I wish Gerry would stop helping Ivana with this wedding, he knows is a mistake and I prefer it when he keeps telling her that.

Jarocha

UA--Cesar Evora would have been perfect! After all, he's been a man of ALL trades, surely he could play a depraved judge and lawyer easily--and easy on the eyes.

Jarocha--Hola y buenos dias. Glad you are here with your wisdom and insight. While I don't think we have enough folks to have more than one table on this Patio, for me it has to be a Max table. I could just sit and nurse a drink all day long just look into his ojos--and maybe get a smile (though I wish he would shave--I know, it dates me).

MD doesn't want to take the chance that even a smart lawyer like Max could prevail over Ivana and her corporate lawyers. I'd take humiliation at the wedding, too, but I think she sees Ivana as wanting to make peace and this seems an easy way to make sure the lawsuit goes away. Too bad Dan and Jacinto aren't going to let this slip by.

Of course they won't. MD's most recent rejection will make Danny-Boy go ballistic. Jacinto would have had it in for MD no matter what. I see a kidnap/rape scheme in their future.

1. The poo will hit the fan once Claudio's affair with Isela becomes known to Alma, Max & Leo. Especially with Max and Leo since Claudio is running around saying Maria Dolores is low class scum.

2. So Alma CAN'T go behind Claudio's back when it comes to Max/Maria Dolores/Maleny but she CAN go behind his back when it comes to Leo/Orlando? Nice.

3. Ivana is very insecure and nothing makes an insecure woman more mad than when the woman she's trying to shade doesn't care. Ivana wants to rub Dan in Maria Dolores' face but if Maria Dolores doesn't care, then Ivana looks like Boo Boo the Fool. Which will make Ivana even MORE mad at Maria Dolores.

4. Maria Dolores knows what Ivana is up to & knows Ivana wants to see Maria Dolores sad and forlorn and she refuses to go out like that. That's the main reason why she's going (other than the charges).

Tks, all. Claudio is having a midlife crisis and it is made worse by Isela rubbing her boobs in his face every chance she gets. I csn empathize with him over zalma any day. She crossed a line

I think I MO Claudio is a faded floral who used to be sexy as hell but is on the verge of granddaddy looks. Perfect portrayal of a man csught in a last chsnce for passion quandary by the guy. The scriptis good. At least he gets great lines as his part is well wrwritten. JMO.

Awesome Jardinera, thank you for this.

"She’s got other taco shells to deep fry"

I'm not totally sold that MD has no lingering feels for Dan.

I'm not sure Ivana wants to show MD that she has Dan now, I think she wants to hurt Dan by having him see that the love of his life is now with Max. The previews of the wedding look very interesting, can't wait.

I agree, I would rather see someone who is at least attractive and can act playing the part of Claudio to make it more plausible that Isela would be attracted to him. This guy is neither attractive or a good actor. He's done nothing to make me believe Isela could possibly have a thing for him, especially with Orlando as her other choice, who is attractive and has me totally sold on how he feels about her.

I know I'm behind and not participating as much, but I have to throw in my 2 pesos about Alejandro Camacho. I admit that maybe he hasn't aged perfectly, but he was really charming in Cuna de lobos (deceptively so) and I can see where audiences would believe Isa is charmed by him too. Also--power and money can make a person very attractive. Especially when your mother is BSC. Claudio is a person that could take her completely out of the neighborhood. Orlando couldn't.

Sara--I agree with your last two sentences. However, I'm still blaming casting for not picking someone "most" ladies of a certain age who are watching, would feel a little pitter-pat in the corazon for him.

Most ladies of a certain age in Mexico probably remember his role in Cuna de Lobos...and even though he was not a nice guy, he really was attractive and charming. I'm just saying I think that's where casting might have been coming from.

Sara, I never saw Cuna de Lobos, and I'm betting many of us haven't. I have seen Abismo de Pasion, and he was just as wooden and unattractive in that one.

Anita, thank you for your nice words. I like Max too, I think this is Gabriel Soto's best characters and one of the best telenovela galanes period. I don't know if MD thinks Ivana is trying to make peace but I think she'll always be willing to do that with her.

On Alejandro Camacho, I actually like him alot. I did see him in Cuna de Lobos Sara and he was fantastic there, he was also great in Muchachitas and Imperio de Cristal. If you want to see him play an absolutely different role, much more relaxed and as a good guy then there was Alma de Hierro a few years ago. I disagree on him not being a good actor, but I do think age has made his face less expressive and his corporal movements a little more stiff.

I thought about getting someone more attractive for Claudio but then I thought that if that was the case then Isela's seduction maybe wouldn't be as easy to believr, because a hot and rich older man would be used to fending off attractive goldiggers. I think Isela's feelings developed from her already existant obsession with him and his stern and protective presence, as well as the sexual awakening she had after being with him, more than from finding him a hot older guy.

Jarocha

I can't wait for Max to find out his father is cheating on his mother. And Claudio has the nerve to judge MD, lol.

Thanks for the recommendations, Jarocha!

Jardinera good recap. Crazy people seem to be on top in these tns this summer.
The judge is such a hypocrite. At least max isn't cheatin on his future wife, like his cheatin dog of a daddy. He can"t stand at attention for his wife, but he can for that lying
Ho-hopper. The lower class is good enough to cheat with but not to make a life with, what
A hypocrite. And he feels good that they don't have to think about the people they're hurting.
That talk between max and juls was sweet, like two bros.
That may not turn out the way Ivana thinks.
After all she got stuck with the lying weasel not Maria delores.
Nothing will make Ivana happy. This mess
Started when she was a child. What a mess her life is, and theres dannyboy like the cherry on a bad bowl of ice cream.

And I will extend that to Maleny: Nothing will make her happy. Being married to Max with his money, position, etc., would never make her happy if he had ten times the money he does. I think she's beyond repair.

While Julian might be a really good actor, especially in this role, I definitely could do without the bug eyes (1986 movie "The Fly"), crooked teeth, and cisco hair. IMHO.

I know, don't judge a book by its cover.

I have following your wonderful blog site for sometime now. I would like to thank all of the recappers for the wonderful job they do. I also have a question: what do the alphabet BSC mean? Urban anthropologist used it in a comment about Alma not being able to see that Maleny is BSC.
