Antes muerte que Lichita #21 Tuesday 10/20/15: Beto Begins to See the Light

The episode begins with a recap of Beto sucking it up, bugging out his eyes and kissing Luci on his forced date. What's new, though, is that he's dreaming about Lichi as he does so! Oh good lord, she's awful on the rest of the date. She's falling all over him, and then comes to the conclusion that, WOW! Maybe we were predestined to be together! Meanwhile, Beto does a great job of wrinkling his nose and acting disgusted, a trend we'll see throughout the episode.

Back at Lichita's place, her dad Nacho is knee-deep in the mopes and going nowhere fast. He's gloomy about not being able to be the sole provider for the family, etc. His wife is sweet and awfully patient and eventually convinces him to come inside.

Beatriz has discovered the absence of the money Luciana stole, and blames it on the maid. Luciana catches Daphne looking through her stuff and seizes the opportunity to pin the blame on her. The two of them (Luci and Daphne) have a very satisfying bickering/girlfight. Luci calls Daphne a goth piñata (surprisingly creative, coming from her) and a green newbie who will never compare to a "diablesa" like Luci.

When Luci gloats about the marvelous, beautiful, pure love like the one she's found with her new guy, an incredulous Daphne asks "who is he, Hitler or Lord Voldemort?"

I give Daphne the win on that exchange, but Beatriz isn't convinced. She rails on our poor goth piñata for the way she dresses, her music, and the theft, and threatens to send her off to some sort of correctional facility (boot camp?). We also get a look at Daphne's social media/dating site profile, where she calls herself "Daphne Dark."

At the bachelor pad, Gumaro laughingly congratulates Beto on the date (even if he was blackmailed into it) with a bon bon like Luci. Beto grumbles and admits he's still hung up on that kiss with Lichita.

Lichita yells at Magos for telling their parents about the bullying at Ikonico, and also for just being a terrible person (hanging around all day, not getting a job, the shady financial schemes, etc.) and threatens to convince their parents to throw her out if she doesn't shape up!

Back at the office, Luci is gloating to Lichi about the marvelous date and the "sublime" kisses she shared with Beto, and also tells her that she won't keep her promise to help Elsa get clearance to sell snacks in the workplace. Lichita looks a little sick at the news about Beto and walks into at least 4 things on her way out of the office. Later though, she does manage to end-run around Luci to Sandra and the office manager and get permission for her mom, so that's good!

Luci's awful friend comes in, giving Luci yet another opportunity to gloat and crow about her marvelous, passionate date with Beto. Also, she says, Lichita is totally crushing on Roberto, so let's hatch an evil plot to make Lichita think her crush is requited. As it turns out, it's not a very complicated plot: Luciana tells Beto to pretend to have a thing for Lichita (not hard, obviously, because he actually does), and the friend tells Lichita that Beto has a thing for her. That's it.

Meanwhile, Lichita is actually having a great time chatting and laughing and being a little productive (so weird... people actually occasionally doing work in a novela workplace? what is this?) with Braulio (mr. hipster). Beto sees all this (including an out-of-context romantic profession of love from Braulio's opera -of course he has an opera, he's a hipster-) and gets totally jealous. He trips Braulio in the hallway and walks into stuff just like Lichita did earlier. That's cute.

Great Ezra and appreciate this. Thanks

"Nacho is knee-deep in the mopes and going nowhere fast"

Really digging Alicia's get r done attitude and success at it.

I marvel at the job Ingrid Martz is doing, her facial expressions are a riot and gestures like using her fingers to show Alicia she and Roberto kissing.

Excellent, Ezra. I also got a kick out of "knee-deep in the moves."

Roberto was super jealous of Diego last night. I laughed out loud at his antics in the meeting. Unfortunately, Luciana thinks he's going along with her awful plan.

Thanks so much Ezra. You might have had similar dvr troubles as I did, but there is some ending stuff missing, like the meeting, and Elsa actually arriving at Iconika. Loved the meeting, but hoping someone can fill in what happened once Elsa arrived at the office with her cart, because that is where my dvr cut off.

I loved how jealous Roberto was getting-- running into walls, and inserting himself between Luchita and Braulio every moment he could. And stupid Luci thinking he's just going along with the plan. Ha!

I also loved that Lichita went around stupid Luci, to Fatima (to get tips on how to impress Sandra with her plan), and then to Sandra, and bravely presented her proposal. Bravo! I'm sure Elsa will be a hit during her one week trial.

Loved how everyone laughed at Luci during the meeting for her utter lack of knowledge about how anything works in advertising/publicity. I really wish Sandra had been there to see it.

I was also happy to see Elsa and Nacho make up, and everyone come clean with everyone else. Nacho even wanted Lichita to quit Iconika if they are treating her badly. But she reminded him that it's HER dream to work in this field, and she WILL succeed. I loved her attitude. Go, Lichita.

Now, if only she and Rob could put their heads together to find a way to get rid of Luci-- the bane of both of their existences.

I said above that everyone came clean in the family, but not really. Magos is unrepentant about airing everyone's dirty laundry, except her own. But it hit me last night, when Elsa said to Nacho (during their cute kitchen dancing scene) that her severance money was almost all used up after buying all her supplies for her food cart, that Magos is the reason she hardly has any money left. Then I did a mental trace on the money and realized that---

-Magos racked up a bunch of fines on Nacho's taxi, that he demanded that she pay back.
-Instead of finding a job to pay him back, Magos scammed a lot of money out of the neighbors with the tanda scheme.
-Instead of paying Nacho back ALL that she owed him, she gave him most of it back from the pilfered tanda money, and kept the rest for herself to do lord knows what.
-When the angry neighbors demanded their money back, instead of getting a job, she whined to Elsa, who used a chunk of her severance to pay them all back.

Show of hands of those who believe Magos has any intention of paying Elsa back, or of giving Nacho the rest of the money she owes him. *crickets*

Elsa was still pushing the cart and hasn't set up yet so you missed nothing.

Luciana told Alicia she wanted her to arrange to speak to the journalist coming to interview Sandra before they speak to Sandra and to get 2 hours

Magos will never return that money and my bet never has he whole life despite the promises. Elsa is the biggest enabler and Magos can play her like a fiddle. She could Alicia too but think that has changed as of last night. Alicia laid down the law.

And didn't some actress not show up? Weren't Braulio and the makeup artist trying to convince Lichita to do it? My comprehension was weak. It felt almost like a set up.

Ha! No way will Magos pay back that money.

Yes and yes they were trying to get Alicia to stand in for the video Braulio is doing

Thanks Tofie and Sara. So, Lichita is going to fill in for an actress in a video. This should be interesting.

Lichita didn't respond yes or no so we are hanging

Thank you, Ezra, for the fun read.

Last night I liked:

Lichita threatening Magos.
Roberto thinking about kissing Alicia when he was kissing Lichita and admitting it.
Luciananot knowing the advertising "vocabulary": videomatix not videomatrix.
Any scene with Dafne.
Roberto being jealous.

Vivi, great recap of Magos' dead beat activities.

Wow! A PSA for preventative medicine.

Correction: When he was kissing "Luciana".

Thanks Ezra for our morning recap. It is such a pleasure to get up and read about the last nights events. Your work has made a lot of people happy I know.

Right Vivi---Lichita does have a super great attitude to succeed against all odds, a somewhat rare trait. I wish that she could pass some of that winning attitude on to Magos but the bad attitude is the way that the writers want to give Magos to us.
Maybe the talk that Lichita gave her last night will start to sink in. We can only hope.

Lichita filling in for the actress that didn't show up is a good thing, a big plus for her.

Elsa and her coffee cart? I just don't feel good about what might be coming. Anyway it's just another reason for---

must see tv
the gringo

Thanks for the recap!

I liked how the hairdresser called Lichi, Alicia and said something about making her a queen I think. I hope she gets an amazing makeover, thought I'm sure she'll be back to her dumpy suits.

ITA that Magos will never pay a cent back. Poor Elsa. She needs to start standing up to her daughter.

Rob's jealousy last night was awesome!

This is the 2nd show I've seen Ingrid Martz in (I didn't watch QPTR) and she does crazy like no one else.

Was funny when Luciana used her tongue inside her mouth to point at Dafne when she was defending herself to Beatriz.

Wow the possibilities here. Lichita becomes the star of the video, lichita is interviewed for the magazine by mistake... even eksa is interviewed by mistake. Tonight should be a fun episode. What I dont like is luciana asking roberto to seduce lichita.

Thanks so much ezra for the recap. Will read later.

I think the makeover will be less than we would like. Like fixed eyebrows and a little color. But might be enough to make roberto notice her in a positive way.

He got an eyeful of Alicia in her bathing suit and he definitely liked what he saw. He knows she looks good out of her clothes! But agree a little color and an eyebrow wax could make others notice her too.

Yeah, Roberto already notices her. He's the only one who's noticed her as an attractive woman.

Ezra, I'll throw my vote in for the outstanding "Nacho is knee-deep in the mopes and going nowhere fast".

I enjoyed your informative and very fun recap tremendously. Excellent job.

I loved Roberto's jealousy and smiled as he kept trying to sabotage Braulio (who seems like a great, fun guy. Why not more of a story for him?).

I am starting to feel the promise of an Alicia/Roberto romance and really look forward to this blossoming.

Vivi, I also enjoyed Luci's lack of knowledge on full display. But her ego somehow got her through it and unfortunately, didn't seem too downtrodden as a result.

Jarifa, Dafne is a force to be reckoned with and I love her spirit. She just about steals any scene she is in. As Ingrid is doing such a sensational job it's hard to outshine her when they act together but Dafne is holding her own. And tofie, yes, Ingrid is using everything at her disposal to get her point across. I can't wait to see what facial expression she'll be wearing next.

Thanks so much Ezra!

Diana

I kinda like her the way she is and identify with her when I was in elementary school and wore cat woman glasses and a cereal bowl haircut. Thank goodness for puberty and contacts.

I like this because it is cartoony and not ashamed to be. Some of these other TN's are cartoons too but take themselves way too seriously and expect me to do as well. I ain't fooled by nice hair and a buff bod with no room for a shred of tenderness. Kinda embarrassed but I've cried almost every night over this show. ME, Ms Cynicalrella!

How you know you're a telenovela addict...when you're reading an article that references ENDA, and the first thing that comes to mind is En Nombre del Amor, instead of the Employee Non-Discrimination Act. *hanging my head in shame*

Vivi, that was good.

Ah that's funny Vivi!

Ezra, terrific recap. I missed some of this episode, like Daphne’s “Hitler or Lord Voldemort?” slam to Luciana. Thanks for including choice dialogue.

Roberto most def has already noticed Alicia's beauty. I think the hairdresser has too and I have my fingers crossed he doesn't go overboard with the makeover.

Late to the game today but great recap Ezra.

Best part of episode:

Robbie being jealous of Braulio. He was acting like such a tried tripping him and trying to get in between them both. I suprised no one else called him out since he was being not so subtle about it.

Lichita having enough of Magos attitude and the way she treats/talks to Ximena

Daphne always looking for ways to knock Lichita down. She seemed hurt by Luciana's comment last night. I hope she spends more time with Lichita to get her spirits back up.

Cant wait to see what kind of makeover we will get.

Thank you, Ezra!
