Antes muerta que Lichita #26 Tuesday 10/27/12: Welcome to Smooch City (Loading the Tragedy Cannon)

Hey folks, last night we had an episode where things were going pretty well for Lichita. I tend to see happy scenes like these so early in a novela as a form of loading a gun... The happier she is now, the bigger the boom from the tragedy cannon.

Anyway, the episode opens on Luciana grilling Roberto about the kid in the photo (actually his son). He claims it's his nephew and marvels at his own stupidity ("how could I have brought this photo to the office!??") for almost getting caught.

Nacho continues to display his ineptitude. He's happy to have his janitorial job back and he hums and dances with his mop. He places a wet-floor warning sign (remembering out loud that it's an important rule to put the sign up so no one slips and gets injured) and promptly slips on the floor and loses his eyesight (again). The retina re-detached.

Fortunately for Nacho, the doc patches it up relatively easily. Elsa, his wife, worries about how they'll pay for it, but no worries: Lichita put it on her credit card! And they manage to get Magos to cover Elsa's shift of pushing the food cart through the office so Elsa can stay with Nacho.

Mateo's would-be adoptive parents meet with a lawyer. They don't have much legal grounds to take Mateo, because his dad (Beto) is still around and has legal rights. Anyway, I question the wisdom of trying to adopt a kid who knows his dad and actively doesn't want to be adopted.

Beatriz' maid shows her an unfamiliar pair earrings that she found in her husband's bag. She confronts Augusto (whose earrings are these?) as he tries to work on a hilariously serious self-portrait of himself in a business suit with a briefcase. He tries to sidetrack her with a romantic advance, but she won't quite fall for it. "Don't lie to me, it's a sin!"

/>Luciana reads the accusations of ineptitude and nepotism levelled at her in the "Mujer de Hoy" magazine article. She's pissed. "We're gonna shut up this idiot journalist!"

Dafne finds her mom crying in Alex's room. She's actually kinda sweet and they're nice to each other for maybe the first time. She heard the fight and tries to comfort Beatriz with a hug.

Augusto comes to Sandra (side girl #1?) and asks if the earring is hers. She's pissed and says it isn't. August: "fortunately my wife is very understanding with me." Uhh, no she's not and you're a jerk. He's got too many girlfriends, and he doesn't even recognize whose earrings they are.

Beto and Lichita are alone in the building, filming an ad preview for the mattress company. He wants her to be his model again, and he poses her in a bed: "you're happily dreaming in the clouds! Stop looking so sad!" She likes him and all but she wants to know what'll happen with them. Where do they stand in the relationship? Is this love or just desire? Roberto answers these questions with another evasion (look into my eyes, what do you see?), but it's good enough for Lichita and they wind up making out again....

All of this is taking place on-camera in front of a green-screen set up to project the mattress into puffy clouds at sunset. Romantic music, etc. Basically, this is as close as they're gonna come to showing sex in a novela. Yup, they did it. Afterwards, she's happy and she says there aren't words for how it felt. He employs a bizarre phrase that I hope someone can explain: "well if you were a 'melón de pasión', I could give you at least a hundred." Huh?

He walks her home, and they kiss and are cute at her door. When Lichita hears Elsa coming, she swiftly thrusts him away and pretends nothing was going on between them (giving him a taste of his own medicine?).

Dafne overhears Augusto's plan to throw a party for Luciana and angrily confronts him! They threaten each other and growl back and forth through his office (she's clearly his daughter!). What's he holding and waving at her? a letter opener? When she spits out that she wishes he'd died in his "accident" on "vacation," he gets a flashback to his time out in the Mexican countryside (his supposed trip to New York, for which he cancelled plans with both his wife and mistress)... He and his henchman are in some sort of a gun battle, presumably where he got shot.

Alex (Dafne's brother) still isn't writing her back. We're clearly building up to an exciting reveal.

Gumaro congratulates/joshes Beto about his passionate time with Lichita, and Beto confirms that he has fallen in love with her.  "cuchi cuchi, chaca chaca!" Meanwhile, in a corresponding scene, Elsa finds out from Lichita just how head-over-heels she is, and they girl out together!

Dafne overhears (I like her a lot, but she does have a habit of eavesdropping)  Luci talking to Xuxette about the Lichita-humiliating scheme and the planned party. Dafne knows that Luci made off the count's gem. Beatriz walks in on the argument and Luci plays hilariously "innocent:" "I was just minding my own business polishing my saints, about to start my morning prayers." Beatriz gets mad, threatens to send her daughter to a convent in America and actually slaps her!!!

Venus puts some pressure on Roberto. She wants him to fess up. She knows he's telling a huge load of lies and says he needs to shape up if he wants his kid back.

Luci blames Lichita for the bad way she came out in the magazine article that portrayed her as an incompetent who only got her position b/c of nepotism. After Luci leaves, Lichita reads the article and its good words about her and flips out!

Beto and Lichi wink at each other over the business table. But he says in front of everyone he has nothing special going on in his love life. Awww, Lichita really got her hopes up! She's tired of waiting for the right time for him to acknowledge their relationship publicly. Later, outside, they have a funny moment when she's puckering up for a kiss and he's looking around to make sure no one can see.

Augusto has some sort of plot involving getting Luci's signature for leverage over her or something. He menacingly says to his henchman "be careful what you sign... a simple signature can implicate you in the most grave of things..."

Finally we see Dafne, completely despairing, climbing up to jump off a bridge (her mom said she was gonna send her to a convent that very day!)... Lichita sees, and that's our cliffhanger!

Thanks, Ezra! I love the title. It's so true. We, and Lichita are being set up for major heartache, especially now that she and Roberto made love. I sure as heck hope the camera wasn't still recording!

For now, I'll just enjoy those two and how cute they are together. Wish I could help you with the exact wording from Rob. I don't remember anything about melons, I do remember he rated her a 100 on the passion scale. Maybe someone else can help.

Poor Dafne. I'm glad Lichita was there, and can intervene before Dafne does anything crazy.

Color me shocked that Magos actually took over Elsa's cart for her. Of course, she's using her time at Iconika to sell her purses that "fell off the truck." Still, progress.

Don Augusto and Luciana make the most hysterical villains. I love them.

ITA, Jane. They are a hoot. But I especially like them when they are being challenged by someone, like Dafne, or things don't go their way.

Even I was looking at Agusto like, really dude? Do you really think Sandra would wear a HUGE dangler like that? I even know her better, and I haven't been boinking her for 10 years. He should have just tried Chuchette first.

Ezra, I thought your recap was simply terrific. Great detail and very well written.

"The happier she is now, the bigger the boom from the tragedy cannon" was fantastic and one of my many favorites.

Eduardo Santamaria is doing an excellent job here. I hope he is having fun with his role. I love that Dafne stood up to him but not surprised Auggie chose to exert his power in such a cruel manner (nothing personal toward the convent but those who enter must do so willingly).

I keep saying I love the Roberto/Alicia kissing so forgive me for being repetitious, but I do! The scene they made love was filmed well and it was sweet and joyous, just like them. I'm putting the fact Roberto did not acknowledge Alicia when the question is asked for now. He is going to have so much to atone for!

When Dafne put her head in her mother's lap, it seemed she was very anxious as to how this touch of affection would be perceived. Mercifully, Bea did not shrink away and my eyes filled up.

I was beside myself seeing Dafne start climbing the side of the bridge. I know Alicia will come to the rescue but it was heartbreaking.

How could one TN contain so much sweetness yet unbearable sadness in one episode? For better or worse, it was done here last night.

Thanks again Ezra!

Diana

I will be having a surgical procedure tomorrow so will be away for a while.

Any good thoughts, prayers or wishes will be gratefully appreciated!

Diana

Good luck, Diana!

Thanks, Ezra. I really enjoyed your recap.

It was good to find out that Beatriz knows about Augusto's philandering and that just does not want it thrown in her face. The slap was worth Dafne telling her mother she knew the truth. I hope Dafne's brother appears on the scene soon.

I wonder if the Duke will ever show up to get his ring. That would be a hoot.

Only Magos would take an honest moneymaking business and turn it into a front for a criminal enterprise: selling her knock off junk. How long until she is in the klink? I seem to be asking the same question a lot.

I liked Venus telling Roberto (after limiting his visits to official times) that his son needed to learn about the basic values of discipline, morally correct behavior and honesty from his father. Looks like the "couple" are going to try to wheedle Mateo's adoption any way they can.

Alicia sure showed her immaturity and inexperience expecting anyone to announce/ confirm their romantic relationship at a business meeting. She is very ripe for the nasty trap being set for her.

I am wondering if the elusive son of Don Augusto is the one we see supposedly marrying Lichita in the new credits? I wonder if it's one of those dream sequences? If not - Roberto deserves it!!

Diana, good luck with your procedure. We will be sending good thoughts your way and awaiting your return!

Vivi, great point about the possibility of the camera maybe still recording.

I'll be thinking of you, Diana! All the best with your procedure.

Loved your retelling Ezra.

"they girl out together!"

Diana all the best for tomorrow. I noted also Dafne expecting a rejection from Beatriz as she lay her head on her. There have been times Beatriz shoved her head away.

The second most influential woman in Roberto's life is Venus and he should be glad to have her.

I hope Alicia can get to Dafne and help her without anyone knowing because her parents will have her locked away for the attempt.

Roberto is using Alicia, yeah he loves her, but he's unwilling to tell her and to commit. I'm frustrated with him too Alicia.

Thanks Ezra---Loading the tragedy cannon? Yes I do think that you are right on that one. Things are going way to smooth for our two love bird right now. There's got to be some--a lot of tears coming soon.

LOL---When I read what you wrote that Agusto has so many girlfriends that he can't recognize the ear rings. What a mess to be in right?

I'm glad that Magos is helping out.

The Mujer de Hoy article must be a riot. Luciana was fuming. Haha it's true though.

No! Don't jump Dafne.

must see tv
the gringo

Wonderful recap!

My first thought was, "Wow can't believe they had sex", 2nd, "damn I hope one of them remembered to turn off the camera", and 3rd, "crap she just had sex with someone who has lied to her from the start, this is going to be really bad".

Augusto becomes more despicable to me by the day though I do like that he is going after Luci.

Poor Sandra needs to move on.

I'm sure Magos will find a way to ruin Alicia's life at Iconika and make it worse.

Dafne needs a hug and love so bad. It was so sad when she tentatively moved toward her mom and was so happy when her mom didn't push her away.

Beatriz needs a TRUE come to Jesus moment about her treatment of her daughter. I wonder what it will take. It so nice seeing them being loving with each other, if only for a moment.

Thanks, Ezra. Great title and recap.

Wow, this is the second time Alicia forgot the camera was rolling. This is not good.

Yep, one look at that earring and Augusto should've known it was Chuchette. Goes to show he's not really into any of these women.

Diana, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you go into surgery. May you have a speedy recovery and return to us soon.

Good luck Diana!!!!

Ezra, I really enjoyed your recap. Is anyone at all being honest with those around them? The cannon will be loaded for sure.
Diana, good wishes and prayers for your procedure.
