Antes muerta que Lichita #27 Wednesday 10/28/15: "Free Fall"

Wow! Was this not just one action filled "impactante" kind of episode?? Before we get to the celebratory shindig for Luciana and its fallout, we will have to cover a few leftover "detallitos".

We left Dafne on the roof threatening to jump in the last episode. Alicia sees her and runs up to try to talk her down. When that does not work (the bottom line: Dafne is convinced her parents hate her and is bent on self destruction), Alicia grabs her and pulls her down from the ledge (so to speak: it is really a security fence). They both fall backwards on the cement with Alicia hitting the cement with Dafne on top of her. Alicia holds Dafne in her arms and tries to get her to calm down. Alicia offers to take her home but Dafne refuses to go not wanting her family to see her like this. To Alicia's surprise, Dafne wants her to take her to her house.

In the blink of a scene, we are at the Gutiérrez house where Alicia introduces Dafne as the "daughter of her boss" (Augusto not Roberto) to her family. (Looks like Nacho has pretty much recovered from the detached retina). Elsa welcomes her as Alicia explains Dafne is there for dinner, supper and at least breakfast tomorrow.

At Iconika, Luciana finally finds Roberto. She has been looking for him and accuses him of avoiding her. She wants to fill him in on the big climax of the joke on Alicia that will take place at her celebratory company shindig that very evening. For him the joke on Alicia is over, but it is not over for Luciana. She uses her knowledge of his false curriculum vitae and the photo of his "nephew" to convince him that the joke is not over. He tries to convince her she needs her mind back on work when she grabs him and kisses him. Augusto sees them.

Alicia is talking to her parents about Dafne explaining she is just going through this adolescent thing and she is going to do all that she can to convince her to go home. Alicia is planning on staying home the rest of the day to be with Dafne.

Augusto (in his trademarked "bigger than life" menacing way) backs Roberto into a wall and tells Roberto he does not disprove of Roberto's relationship with Luciana. He then reminds him that he will be seeing him at the shindig that night and he hopes to see the Hispanic community proposal real soon.

Alicia calls Roberto to fill him in on why she won't be back to work and realizes she forgot about the shindig at Icónika that night. Well, it is part of the job so she tells him she'll be back. He tries to talk her out of coming back because of the traffic, etc. He will explain it all to Luciana and stop by Alicia's house after the shindig later that night. Alicia is all happy and writing her blog when a sleepy headed Dafne comes to talk to her still not trusting that she has not called her parents since she heard she had called her boss. Alicia assures her that she has not called Augusto but her immediate boss Roberto. Dafne does not have a good opinion of Roberto. She is sure he is the one who is Luciana's accomplice. So, he must be just like her: disgusting.

At the mansion, Beatriz is trying to get out of going to the celebratory shindig one more time telling Augusto the company shindigs are just not her thing. Augusto convinces her by rubbing his face on hers and telling her they have to be convincing as the "happy couple" again. She is clearly enjoying the physical contact with him and gives in. Beatriz gets a call. It is a silent hang up call from Sandra.

At the apartment Roberto is discussing his dilemma with Gumaro: he feels bad that Alicia only wants them to make their relationship public and he cannot do it. Gumaro reminds him of Luciana's planned joke ridiculing Alicia at the shindig. Roberto thinks he has it all under control. Alicia is not coming to the party. He will make a brief appearance and leave for Alicia's house.

Dafne is adding more worrisome details to what she knows about Roberto and Luciana: something about them playing a joke on an employee by tricking her into falling in love. Alicia says they would 't do a thing like that. Dafne says that they are both capable of something like that and that the employee must really be dense to not realize she is being played. Alicia looks uncomfortable. A few moments later, Alicia is sending Roberto a text asking him if he is almost to her house as they had planned. She is sure what Dafne knows about Luciana and Roberto is just a: MAL ENTENDIDO!!!!! (Misunderstanding)

On we go to the SHINDIG!!! Augusto and Beatriz make an entrance like royalty as the crowd applauds. Augusto knocks Braulio out of the way as he finds a nice chair to sit in and Beatriz retreats to a corner with her cell phone in search of Dafne. Augusto gets up to tell Beatriz to put on a happy face. She cannot believe that he is not worried about Dafne. Hey, it hasn't even been 24 hours, so what is the big deal? He wants her to calm down.

The office girls are at a table with Brisas talking about the secret of happiness being "Zen". Braulio is talking about his opera. Luciana is standing at the bar. Roberto is texting Alicia: better he stops by tomorrow in the morning so they can go to work together.

It is supper time at the Gutiérrez house. Alicia is wandering around looking worried with her cell phone. Dafne is enjoying the meal. Elsa reminds her she has to call her parents. She says she will when she is done eating. Elsa finally asks Alicia why she looks so worried. She just happened to forget something real important at Icónika so she is going to have to go in to work.

At the shindig, Roberto is telling Luciana that Alicia is not coming. Luciana is so disappointed that her great humiliating joke will not be able to deliver its punchline. Chuchette tells Luciana that their video is ready. The press is there to hear her uncle's announcement. As Roberto stands listening to all of this, we see Alicia come in a door behind him. She stops behind a wall separating the shindig room and the entry hall. Roberto does not see her. Next, we have Augusto and his announcements: they are there to celebrate the generations in the advertising business: he introduces Luciana. The press goes crazy taking photos. Beatriz is still on her phone worried about Dafne. Sandra comes over to congratulate her on her "perfect marriage" to Augusto. Luciana takes the mike and addresses the crowd: she thanks Augusto for being so good to her. She then introduces them to another young person just as talented as she: her NOVIO Roberto Duarte. (Roberto is as surprised we are). Alicia witnesses this all from her hiding spot. Roberto looks uncomfortable standing next to Luciana but does not deny it. He just goes along as Luciana hangs on him. In an aside, Alicia tells us that at that moment she felt more invisible than ever and that she had to find out how far Roberto was capable of going. Alicia sends him a series of texts that he answers with a series of lies: his brother got sick so he is home, he never went to the shindig at Icónika, etc., he is stil at home taking care of Gumaro.

Back at the Gutiérrez house, Dafne is finding out how much she missed learning how to do always having had a maid from Alicia's niece Ximena. Dafne even realizes she has no idea what she wants to do with her life.

At the shindig, Sandra comes over to Beatriz again saying she looks upset. Beatriz says it is a family matter when Sandra jumps right in asking if it is a problem with her husband. Beatriz assures here that is not the issue. Sandra goes on about how she would not want to be in Beatriz's shoes with such an important, handsome man. You know how men are. Beatriz is lucky the phone rings so she can escape Sandra's interrogation. It is Dafne! Sad to say but the phone call does not go well. Beatriz tells her how fed up she is of her and her antics. Dafne says if she is that fed up, why is she looking for her? She hangs up on her mother. Sandra is there again asking what is wrong. Beatriz feels ill.

Roberto tells Luciana he is upset about her publicly mentioning they were novios. She says it was no big deal and he should be really very grateful because the fact he is engaged to a Toledo y Mondragón is going to help him in his career. Roberto wants to talk about their "relationship" seriously with Luciana. She suggests they go to his office. While in her office she is all over him as he is pleading with her for a more measured slower relationship. As she is kissing him, Alicia sees them through the blinds on the office window. Roberto and Luciano see Alicia. Luciana goes out to the hall wanting to know what Alicia is doing there. Alicia and Roberto are just staring at each other. Luciana informs Alicia that her "so-called" romance with Roberto was just joke that Luciana and Roberto had played on her for laughs. Just in case she did not hear it, Luciana and Roberto are novios. Alicia says, it is obvious because the two of them were clearly made for each other.

In the shindig room, Chuchette starts a video of images of Alicia that make her look stupid. Alicia walks in and sees herself on the screen as everyone is laughing.

At the Gutiérrez house, Elsa is lecturing Dafne in a kindly way about being grateful. She also lets it drop that Alicia and Roberto are a couple. Dafne's eyes get real big with that announcement.

Augusto, Beatriz, and Luciana leave. Néstor gets up to complete Alicia's humiliation by making sure Alicia knows the roses were from Chuchette and not Roberto and by awarding her a huge cardboard crown for being "Miss Fool/ Ridiculous". To everyone's surprise, Alicia goes up to receive and wear her crown (really paper donkey ears as Vivi noticed) as a person who knows how to laugh at herself. She sarcastically delivers a few zingers of her own for example letting everyone know that Chuchette sometimes has business meetings in far flung motels on the edge of the city and that Roberto is a just a joker who never says anything seriously. The whole crowd looks uncomfortable. She congratulates him on his "noviazgo" (formal courtship of Luciana). She will never ever forget any of them.

The next morning, Roberto tells Gumaro he was up all night thinking about Alicia. She won't answer his calls. He is in a bind because to explain what happened he would have to tell her the truth about everything. Then she really have no reason to believe him. At the orphanage, Roberto has a meeting with Venus who tells him he has been doing well with the requirements to retain custody of his son but also reminds him he is going to have to clean up the lies he told at work. He says very soon he will not have to hide from anyone or anything. Venus then hands him a petition from Marta and Ángel Vidal who are suing him for custody of Mateo. Yes, he has his parental rights, the law is on his side and they have very little chance of actually winning custody BUT all of his ducks better be in a row because under certain circumstances they could get custody of Mateo.

In the board room Luciana has just been rude to an unknown person when Sandra comes in and introduces him as the owner of the dog food company "Mi Can". It turns out that the dog food man started making "dog croquettes" in the same neighborhood (Colonia La Goma) that Alicia lives in. She has known him since she was a little girl. He will do business with Icónika only if he can deal with Alicia. Sandra is not happy. Later, in Sandra's office she makes it clear that Alicia is not going to be the account executive on the dog food account. Not enough experience. Alicia reminds her she was Elías' assistant and tries to sell herself by work she has done on another independent campaign. Sandra is not impressed with work Alicia was not asked to do. On her way out, Alicia lets Roberto have it. Néstor is in her face again being ignorant. As she turns to get away from him she bumps into a young man and falls down. He helps her up (the actor played another real nice guy in HEFDM).

Magos is selling her hot purses at the office. She has not missed a beat in her chain of illegal activities.

Roberto tries to talk to Alicia. She makes it clear that yes, they will have to talk but only about work. Of course he wants to "explain" the "noviazgo" but Alicia is having none of it. Luciana comes to his rescue saying they are going to announce who won the job of general creative director. Augusto announces that Roberto has won the position. Some applaud, some complain it was because he is engaged to Luciana. After threatening him again about his CV, Roberto tells Luciana he nas had it with her blackmailing him. She brings up the mysterious nephew again. It is just his nephew and he reminds her he is now her boss. Roberto is wanted in Sandra's office. Luciana goes with Chuchette to find some info on Roberto in the human resource office. Next, Luciana arrives at Roberto's apartment building. Stinky neighborhood, in her opinion. She double checks the address with Chuchette. She gets out of the car.

Back at Icónika, the nice young man is complimenting Alicia on her smile and her eyes. She asks if she can help him. Yes, she can because he is a little lost. Two other office girls swoop in and knock her down to ask him if he would like anything to drink. Alicia gets up and fights her way back and takes charge of the situation. Not for long though, Augusto sees the young man and it turns out it is his long gone son Alejandro whom he rushes in to hug.

In an ending aside, Alicia tells us that with Alejandro's arrival life was giving her another opportunity to really get ahead at Icónika. She is not sure how but she will have to win Alejandro's heart. Yessiree!

I am so happy that Alejandro has appeared on the scene. It looks like he will give Roberto some competition and Dafne some support.

Hey I guessed it about the guy in the credits. Heh. I'm through with Beto. A guy who can lie so constantly to Alicia is not a good risk as a husband. He always goes first to a lie and that is so weak. He doesn't deserve her regardless of his hangdog expression.

A great recap Jarifa, thank you!

"In the blink of a scene"

"BUT all of his ducks better be in a row"

AND he didn't lift a finger to stop Alicia's humiliation. Bless Alicia's heart and Roberto doesn't look bothered much, only that she won't listen to more of his bullshit. Can't he understand her pain? He's all happy and smiles cause he got a promotion.

For one minute I thought Beatriz really cared, then she spoke to Dafne.

Sandra is smart but needs to realize Beatriz is not the competition. Any woman foolish enough to indulge his lust is.

Fabulous recap, Jarifa! What an episode. That was the ultimate humiliation for Alicia. But now I can breathe a sigh of relief because the worst has now happened, and Alicia didn't let it break her. We can only go up from here. Let Rob spend rest of his time begging and groveling and getting jealous as Alicia and Alex get close.

This was another really action packed episode. It was good to see Alicia have the guts to follow the info given to her by Dafne and "reconnoiter" the situation at the shindig. It was painful to watch but her addressing her bullies was the best she could make of the situation since she has to work there.

Roberto is the one I saw in free fall due to the Mateo situation. He is at everyone's "capricho" and mercy. In one way Roberto and Magos are very similar: they both would prefer to get something in fast and a "chueco" (crooked) kind of way rather than take the time and effort to do things the right way. They are the folks who believe you can get something for nothing. It is hard to believe Roberto could not have gotten another job honestly --even if it were menial--that still would have given him a chance to get his son back. As someone else has mentioned, he is lucky to have Venus. At least she is taking her time with him and giving him invaluable advice on how to keep custody of Mateo.

What a universal theme: people stuck in a job and all it has to offer (or not) because of the money.

I had to stop watching this after about five minutes. Sorry you got such a rotten episode to recap!

Thanks, Jarifa. Great title and fantastic recap of a stomach-churning episode.

Loved Alicia, though sad and crying, standing up to the bullies with her speech.

Glad that Daphne felt bad about running her mouth when she realized afterward that Alicia is the sap that Luciana (and Roberto in her mind) are making fun of.

In a way, this was a good episode for me because Daphne has gotten to know Alicia’s family and these two chicks have a budding friendship.

I have liked Sandra up till now, but questioning Beatriz about her marriage was tacky and made her (Sandra) look desperate and pathetic. Sandra, honestly it’s been 10 years and he’s still with his wife. Nothing to analyze here, just move on.

I haven’t cared much for Beatriz up till now, but she was worried about Daphne. A small thumbs-up for her, even though she didn’t know how to talk to Daphne once her daughter called her.

ITA everybody’s comments on Roberto. No sympathy for him. Unless he tells Alicia the whole truth, I’m done with him.

Thank you, Jane. What made the episode for me is that there was so much going on (I get bored easily) and there was a great upturn at the end for Alicia. Then there is that wedding scene in the preview you mentioned yesterday . . . it will be interesting.

Vivi, Roberto is going to have a long road back to Alicia. His character is so pathetic right now.

Tofie, so true about Sandra not realizing that any "foolish" woman could be her competition.

I wonder if there will be any real growth in the Augusto character or if he will go off into the sunset as just another blockading cartoon character.

Previous post correction: "bloviating" cartoon character.

Niecie, good points about Dafne feeling bad and Sandra just looking pathetic. With the scenes between Sandra and Beatriz, I kept wondering what her point was.

Thank you for the excellent recap!

My heart was racing when poor Alicia was watching the video and then when she got up on stage! I kept thinking that for a company this big there has to be an HR department. With all of these incidences Alicia should be able to get both Nestor and Chuchette fired. But this is TN land.

Roberto is dead to me for the moment. I understand he is fighting for Mateo but he could have done way more to side step Luci's game and stand up for Alicia. He is just coming across as a selfish coward at the moment. He could easily have told Alicia what Luci was planning without divulging too much.

I couldn't believe the welcome Augusto gave his son. It looks like he is the only one Augusto cares about. I hope Alex came to help his sister. He looks like a nice guy.

Agree that Sandra needs to realize that Beatriz is not the competition. I think Augusto drags Bea to all of these events in order to keep all of his other women at bay.

I do wish that Sandra would open her eyes and realize that all of the work from Luci comes from Alicia. At times she seems to realize this and yet she doesn't give Alicia her due.

Carvivlie, I totally agree that Roberto could have told Alicia something about Luciana's plan even earlier on. "Coward" is the perfect label for him.

Thanks, Jaria, for the excellent recap.

Roberto has reached a low point and can't count on Alicia's partnership any more. Her speech to the Iconika people was very courageous (was that hat/crown supposed to be bunny ears?) and marked a new start for her.

Daphne's visit to Alicia's family may establish a more solid footing for their friendship. With Alex home, I hope he gives his sister support and maybe becomes an ally for Alicia.

Oops! Jarifa, I meant.

I think they were donkey ears.

Roberto is an opportunist that caught the feels for Alicia but those feelings not strong enough to either tell her the truth (or portion of it) or jeopardize his promotion. That promotion possible because of Alicia's ideas and the perceived relationship with Luciana. Since he has to retain the job and has Augusto's blessing now he no longer thinks he needs Alicia. Roberto has begun to believe his own hype. The least he could have done is stop what they were doing to Alicia, Luciana had already departed.

Wow! You got a doozy last night Jarifa and did a fab job with it.

Roberto is getting himself in deeper and deeper. He has so many lies surrounding him, I'm surprised that he knows which end is up.

OMG!!! What humiliation for Alicia. It was hard for me to take and I wasn't involved
in the slightest. What ever happened to workplace harassment lawsuits? Either they don't have them in novelas or maybe they don't have them in Mexico either. I do have to give Alicia a 10+++ as to how she handled it. How many of us could have stood up to that bombardment and still make it out with some self dignity left?

At first I thought that Venus was an uncaring, mean and cruel social worker but as it turns out, she actually cares and is on the up and up.

Looks like good news for Alicia, Alex has arrived.

must see tv
the gringo

Thanks Jarifa I missed the second half so your recap helped fill in what I missed. What an episode! I see that Univision is still scissor happy with these episodes.

ITA with opinions of Sandra...I really liked her up till she started messing with Beatriz. Instead of trying to get Beatriz out of the picture she should focus on finding someone actually loves her.

Im glad Dafne made it into a safe household but boy wont that be a stark contrast when she goes back to her cold, unloving family. I was surprised how worried Beatriz was though.

Tofie, perfect: Roberto has started to believe his own hype. With him and Luciana we have the blind leading the blind.

Gringo, you are so right about Alicia deserving an A+++ for sheer force of will. She is becoming one of the strongest characters in this novela.

CeCe, how I wish Dafne could stay with the Gutiérrez family. Maybe things will be better that Alejandro is home. It will be interesting finding out who (Dafne?) or what was his motivation for coming home. I am going to have to do a little research on how scissor happy they have become at Univision. Sloppy editing and censorship are annoying.

Vivi, you are right! The "crown" they gave to Alicia really was donkey ears. I just took another look.

Does anyone know what stuff is being cut out and we are missing? I assume they and combining 2 episodes into one.

Reflecting on this episode, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be by the time we got to this point where Alicia would be totally humiliated and disillusioned with Rob. And the reason for that was Alicia herself. Even while her heart was breaking, you could see her core of steely strength shining through, and knew she'd be ok. Now she just needs to find a way to get ahead of the haters who are keeping her down. Could Alex be the key to that? if he is, I hope he's in on it, and she doesn't just use him like so many others have done to her.

I didn't understand Sandra being so unwilling to give Alicia the dog food account when the owner himself requested it. And surely by now she must know that she's doing all the work Luciana is turning in. I don't get why she can't see through Luci and realize that she's all b.s., and Alicia is behind any success she's had.

Vivi, from what I can find it looks like we have covered the basic content through Mexican episode 30. Oh well, at least these episodes have been action filled.

Maybe Sandra is reticent to upset Luciana or her "accomplishments" because Augusto has taken a sudden interest in her and has not shared the reason for that change. Could Sandra be feeling vulnerable because of that?

La Paloma, interesting point about her speech marking a new start for Alicia. I really hope this terrible experience emboldens her beyond Alejandro..
