What an episode. That ending was intense. Yeah, we know Dan isn't dead, but he sure has cause and plenty of witnesses to bring a lawsuit against Max. At least in the short-term it made Max and US feel better. I was very proud of MD for telling Max not only what happened, but how she FELT-- like she somehow deserved it. It was the most raw and exposed she has been with anyone about her feelings. It bodes well for their relationship. As does Max never questioning for a second if she really sent that picture to Dan.

One little bit to what the doctor said to Ursula. He threatened to tell Claudio the WHOLE truth about what happened to Hector, as he knows it, because he knows they deceived him. Because once he knows the truth of what happened, he'll realize how much they have put his career and reputation in jeopardy. Do it, Doc!

If/when Claudio finds out that sweet, fragile Maleny didn't really kill her dad as a girl, AND that she's blackmailing Isela over their affair, I wonder what he'll do next? Those are big changes to his dynamic with Maleny.

OK. Orlando is an idiot when it comes to Isela. But, I have to say I was seeing the appeal of coming home to a buff, cute guy cooking me dinner, after having cleaned, and fixed and repaired everything in my house. It reminds me of some joke memes labeled "Porn for Women", showing hot men doing all these domestic goddess things.

What was truly killing me is that when Maria Dolores followed Max en route to the beating she was taking a major risk. That Arango, Isidro, and Ursula tried to physically restrain her was disgusting enough, but the name-calling was really riling me up. They could also -- as they have been doing all along -- lie about her motive for doing this, just as Danny-Boy lied to Max. That was painful to hear. I am wondering to what degree Danny-Boy is deluding himself.

Max worried me all along about this. He's bigger, stronger, and angrier than Danny the Weasel and this beating looked pretty severe. Of course the Weasel is still alive, but this is going to create more major issues for Max that will reverb through his parents.

The doctor looks like he's close to retirement age and may truly have nothing to lose. He should reveal all if only to relieve his conscience. He should avenge it against Mama Bear.

I'm curious what Isela will tell Claudio now. The whole truth? Probably that Isela asked her to do her a favor and look into it, and she just wanted to be nice and help her. I will guess that she doesn't tell him that she's being bribed and that Mal knows about the affair.

Julian stepped in just in time to make Max talk to MD first before hearing lies by Dan without knowing what happened. Perfect.

I continue to love Doris, she was so cute with Orlando. I really hope they become a couple.


 

Cathyx- Isela already told Claudio that Maleny is blackmailing her and holding their affair over her head. She only had the chance to tell him very quickly before Alma came into the room. Hopefully, we'll see the fallout of that revelation tonight. I'm assuming Claudio is going to confront Mal.

With all the drama of this episode, I hate to bring up something petty, but why do they keep calling the cupcakes "pancakes"? The Mexican bakery near me calls them "Pastelitos." "Pancakes" is clearly a borrowed word, since it has a "k." Why borrow a word to use it for a completely different thing? So confused.
 

IMO once Claudio is exposed as a low down dirty dog, he will take the supposed Hector Santibanez way out of life or he will leave town in disgrace, never to be heard from again.

His whole life is a sham. He stands up as this honorable, good, upstanding man but he's really a sewer rat. Wait until Max & Leo find out about him drugging Alma to carry on his affair with Isela.

Isela is a sewer rat, too. Once her affair with Claudio is exposed & the barrio people find out how she sold each and every one of them out to be Claudio's side piece they will turn their backs on her.

Josefa needs to end up in the psych ward.

Why is Claudio holding on to Marta's files so long, if she was some 2-bit nobody that died so long ago? I think Claudio knows EXACTLY who Isela and Josefa are -- he probably investigated who Isela was after he started being attracted to her.

That beat down Max administered is so satisfying. Ursula & Daniel may threaten to sue Max or put him in jail but Claudio will put a stop to that, I think.


 

I'm afraid what we'll have is Max's freedom for Daniel's. Max only complicated things.

Claudio, I doubt, will help Max and likely wants him to learn a lesson about how an obsession with a woman like MD will lead to his ruin. The irony
 

To All--Thank you for the recaps, faithful recappers and the comments, faithful commenters* of the last few days. I've been busy with Perla Preciosa. You are all keeping up my interest in in YoNo and almost current with the episodes (can't wait to see Tuesday's). *Tee Hee, I typed fomenters at first and almost left it there.

Terri R--This may only add to your question about cupcakes, but I do know that in Mexican telenovelas, real pancakes (the flat ones you eat with syrup) are actually referred to as panqueques. They are using the phonetic to refer to something borrowed from English. So, I'm wondering also why cupcakes are referred to as pancakes. They are little and they are frosted like a cake, why not pastelitos, or tortelitos? One on-line dictionary calles the magdalenas, which is something different in English. But ni modo, I agree, pancake doesn't sound right, especially when the word is used to define a real pancake.
 

BTW--Shouldn't someone in the Bustamante household, namely Alma, wonder, after she finds out, that is, why both Julian and Max attacked Daniel? Could there be some truth to the rape (or aggression) story against MD?

Agree with all the insights on Ivana. When is she going to stop and think about what she's doing to people with less influence and power than she has.

Anon207......yes, I believe it is very possible that Claudio knows who Ise and Hoesfa really are. Because he went along w Ise pretending to buy her story about the reason for looking through archives, he is a slick sewer rat for sure and has many layers of make believe cloak of respectibility and integrity. Wow, in the beginning his family falsely believed he was so upright and had so much integrity. He is worse than a fake, he is cold and calculating probably a murderer too.

Claudio is concerned about image and it would not look good for Claudio's image to have Max behind bars. So deals will be struck, especially since Claudio knows Maleny knows about the affair. Buckle up because Claudio's not going down, not to the Santibanez'.

 

It might look like corruption if Clod does anything to get Max released. He also is smart enough to know that wrongdoers can come from anywhere. I'm sure Max knows a decent number of good, honest lawyers to seek help from. He might be too hot-headed about this to be able to help himself.
 

I have heard cupcakes referred to as pancakes/panqueques in Mexican tns many times-- starting with my first, Querida Enemiga, where the protagonist made them all the time and sold them on the side of the street. In those same tns, I hear pancakes referred to as hotcakes/hotqueques.

My box of pancake mix has Spanish instructions where they call them "panqueques." That makes perfect phonetic sense, but it's referring to what we call pancakes, not to cupcakes. Of course, the Spanish instructions may have been created via babelfish and not be at all idiomatic! On Yo No Creo, they keep pronouncing the second syllable like the English word "cake," which makes no sense phonetically. I realize they don't need my approval, but every time Clarita says "pahhhnCAKE," I'm looking for a griddle, not a muffin tin!

And I absolutely realize that I'm focusing on minutiae--it's how I roll.


 

The pancake (cupcake)/hotcake (pancake) thing is very specific to Mexico. Instructions on a box would use the terms most common for most Spanish speakers.

I read on todays comments someone calling Ari or Orly, one of them a "beefcake." I am sorry I can't recall who it was and now I cant find it.
Anyway,since we on subject of panqueques, how would you say "beefcake" literraly in spanish? Pastellito de res???

As far as I can tell Clara makes PANQUES. This is the word for cupcake with which I am familiar after years of living in Guadalajara. BTW--love this blog!
 

I will listen more carefully (with both ears!) to see if it's "panques." That would make much more sense.

I also liked that MD told Max that what she she felt and why Vivi. I'm glad that Max was quick to reassurre her that she didn't deserve it and that Dan was the only one to blame here. Even if his reaction was too rushed and may complicate things for himself.

For me, panqué is the name of small cakes in rectangular form, very simmilar to a muffin. Lately, people have been using the word cupcake in Mexico too but I grew up calling them mantecadas and here in Ensenada people call them quequitos, so the names used can vary. But, no matter in which part of Mexico I've been, the pancakes were always called hot cakes.
