Pasión y Poder #9, November 13: So yeah, I went out with your sister, mi amor.
(some scenes have been combined)
David and Regina are both "wowed" by the passionate smooch they have shared. She's drunk and admits that she doesn't dislike him like she had made him believe. He thinks she needs to rest and she stumbles into her room and falls onto the bed. He asks if she's alright and helps her get out of her heels. She pulls him onto the bed with her. But he doesn't want a repeat of what happened with Daniela. She doesn't realize that when he said "Daniela" he meant her sister and asks him if he has a girlfriend. He replies that he doesn't and then quickly changes the subject telling her that he'll call room service to bring her some coffee to help cure her drunkenness. As he heads to the phone, she pulls him from the back of his shirt, and almost falls down. He catches her and then helps her get back onto the bed. The two now sit together on the bed, and she tells him that for the first time in her life she's going to do what she wants. She then pulls him on top of her as they both lay down on the bed.
Over with the poor folks .. Maribel tells Doña Gisela and Clara that she'll have to use a part of her and her husband Jacinto's savings to pay for the medical tests that she needs to have done. She mentions how the doctor said that she didn't like what she saw. Doña Gisela thinks it doesn't sound good and urges Maribel to let her husband know what is happening. But Maribel doesn't want to let him know at least not until he returns from his trip. Maribel and Luisita leave. Clara annouces to Doña Gisela that she has things to do but we never find out what those things are or why we should even care.
Daniela, sporting an outfit that doesn't look so bad compared to the short shorts she usually wears, is ready for a night of clubbing with Mr. Butt Massage, err Johnny. But Mommie Dearest (Nina) has other plans for Daniela. She needs for Daniela to do her a giant favor. Later on, we find out what that favor is. Daniela, still sporting her clubbing attire, goes to see her dad and tries to grill him for info about the reason for him being so moody lately. She offends him by asking if he has a mistress and then gets a good scolding from her dad who gets on her case over her not doing anything meaningful with her life. He lets her know that he has reasons to be moody, because he works for his family, and they don't take advantage of it. Take her for example, she dropped out of college, and now spends all her time partying and traveling with her girlfriends. She says that she left college because she didn't like the career she had chosen and is now only taking a sabbatical year off to decide what career she wants to pursue. On The Patio, we hear some suggestions about which career she can purse, among those are a career that has to do with the male anatomy. Fashion design is not option given her taste in clothes. Anyway, the scolding then turns to the Joshua incident, and Arturo tells her that getting involved with him was the worst thing that she could have done to her sister and to the family. She denies having gotten involved with Joshua but he tells her that it is the last straw and that from now on things will change at home. She scoffs at the idea and he scoffs back at her mimicking her scoff.
Regina continues to pour her heart out to David and tells him how her mother always makes her feel bad because she wants her to be just like her sister Daniela. He tells her that she's more beautiful on the inside and outside and tells her how fascinated he was the first time he saw her when she was dressed as a bride. He tells her how all that day he thought about what a shame it was that he arrived so late in her life, but now that she's not going to get married, well.. he doesn't say more because he realizes that she has fallen asleep on him. Later on, he covers her up with blanket, and gives her a nice gentle kiss on the lips, and then watches her as she sleeps.
Miguel thanks Arturo for defending him from Erick The Jerk, his brother who looks so much more older than he does. Well, Arturo had promised that he'd defend their relationship, and he'll ask everyone to respect him. Getting on the subject of Consuelo, Arturo asks Miguel not to get so involved in her problems with Erick. He thinks Miguel should put some distance with Consuelo and not defend her so much. Miguel who is at the head of the Consuelo table on The Patio doesn't think there is anything wrong with him defending Consuelo. Arturo doesn't want for Miguel to have another interest in defending Consuelo other than wanting for Consuelo and Erick to solve their problems. Miguel lets his dad know that he knows perfectly well that Consuelo adores Erick and is his wife. He just wants for Consuelo to be happy and he wants Arturo to have a talk with Erick where he orders Erick to give Consuelo her place. Having said that, Miguel leaves in a huff. Arturo let's out an "Oh, god", probably because he has smelled the love that Miguel is feeling for his sister-in-law.
Julia and Eladio talk. She's afraid of him reverting back to his old monster self. But he tells her not to be afraid. He has always adored her, but wasn't able to show it, and her rejection of him made things more difficult. He also doesn't want to go back to how things were before especially now that he's winning her affection. He suggests they live the moment and she agrees. They kiss.
The next day,
Maribel and Luisita scene. Nothing important here except that we find out that Doña Gisela has a bottle where she keeps her booze. Luisita has seen it.
Nina wakes Daniela up wanting the scoop on what she found out from her dad. Daniela let's her know that she found out nothing. Then she gets icky and asks her mom if she fixed her problems with her dad in the bedroom. Nina answers her questions and let's her know that her dad slept in the study.
Franco finds Eladio stroking a photograph of Julia and comments on Eladio being in such a good mood despite how things are. Eladio is all smiles because things with Julia are going so well. However, that doesn't mean that he'll forget about Arturo. Eladio is determined to clean his name, re-open his hotel, and get back at Arturo, who he is sure is the one that squealed on him about the illegal permission. Franco mentions how Arturo has the support of the members of the association to be the new president of the association. Eladio laughs at the idea and doesn't think Arturo has what it takes to be the new president. Eladio's ego is so big that he believes that he's the only one that knows how to do business. Later on, Franco hands him some papers that Eladio will use to convince the members of the association of the legality of the permission.
Doña Gisela isn't having a very good morning, because she's facing some money problems, and wasn't able to receive her monthly check from Gomez Luna. Clara is off to work and when she leaves Doña Gisela lets The Patio know of her plans to win Franco over. She is determined to keep on receiving her checks from Gomez Luna and believes that Franco will look over her since he's her grandson. We then witness as she pours some booze into her teacup from her bottle and then takes a bite out of some bread. Later on, Doña Gisela makes a stop the Gomez Luna offices looking for Eladio. But she's told that he's not there. She decides to take the liberty of seeing for herself. So when the secretary steps out she barges into Eladio's office. Franco catches her snooping around in the office and she feeds him some BS about being mugged and tells him that she didn't receive her monthly check. Franco doesn't buy her BS and is very rude to her. When she doesn't want to leave he physically shows her the door.
Caridad holds a photo of herself and Baby Franco and cries over him. The social worker tries to get her to cheer up. Yes,
it was a hard blow that they postponed her trial, but she urges Caridad
to have patience. She suggests Caridad think about when she can be with
her son and embrace him again. Caridad says that she has to think about
what she'll do when she gets out of there because she'd die if she can't
have Franco's affection.
Gabriela and Julia go over the guest list of those who will attend the charity event/perfume launch/fashion show. Gabriela says the members from the businessmen association will be there. Arturo, however, won't attend, but his wife will. Gabriela receives a text message from David which contains a selfie that he took. She shows Julia and Julia asks Gabriela to send him a message letting him know that his dad is behaving well with her and that she's so happy. Julia tells Gabriela that she's starting to feel good being by Eladio's side. Later on, at the foundation, both Julia and Gabriela receive two beautiful dresses that they can wear at the event that night. The dresses are from Eladio. Julia is in awe that someone could change so much in such a short time.
Regina awakens and finds David in her hotel room. He tells her that it's not what she thinks and that he spent the night with her to take care of her. She's embarrassed by what she could have said to him and he jokes around telling her that it was not what she said but what she did. He continues to joke and tells her to take a look online because it has been uploaded on there. She starts to get mad but he lets her know that he was kidding. Then he tells her that she did do something that fascinated him. He tells her that she kissed him. Regina can't believe that she did that and is embarrassed over what he could think of her and assures him that she's not really like that. He assures her that he isn't thinking anything bad about her and tells her that everyday he gets to know her more and more and he likes her a lot. With a smile on her face, Regina lets David know that he's not so bad either, but then reality hits her hard, and she realizes there can't be anything between them because their families hate each other. He mentions something happening with Daniela, and she doesn't really catch what he says, and he doesn't explain. He tells her that it's late and he'll wait for her in the lobby. He tells her that they are co-workers and can at least be friends. She hopes they can. He leaves and she scolds herself for having been so dumb.
Arturo talks with Agustin about having to focus on his campaign to become the new president of the association. Agustin thinks he has a better chance now that Eladio is out of the picture. The conversation then turns to Julia and Arturo annoys Agustin by telling him that he can't stop thinking about her and needs to see her. Arturo has realized that the reason he has become so distant from Nina is because of Julia. Later on, Arturo gives his speech to the members of the association about what he can offer if elected president. In the middle of the speech, Eladio arrives with proof in his hands that cleans his name from being responsible for obtaining an illegal permission. Turns out Eladio has laid the blame on some poor sap worker and now that worker has been fired and will have to face the law. Having cleared that up, Eladio now wants to become a candidate for the presidency. Arturo looks on at Eladio in disbelief smelling a rat at the association.
And speaking about a rat, Montse-Rat (thanks Cynderella) and Erick chat. Erick gets a little jealous when he learns that Montse-Rat won't be at home at night and hopes she's not cheating on him or else he'd make her regret it. She tells him to calm down and lets him know that she'll be at the charity event/perfume launch/fashion show. Ah, Erick knows all about that. His mom is going but not his dad. Montse-Rat splashes some of the perfume that will be launched that night on herself and asks Erick if he likes it. Erick, who takes after his dad in the sniffing department, does like it a lot. So he and Montse-Rat start to get a little busy as they are up against the table. Yuck. Gross. Blech.
Regina and David have dinner and the two are really hitting it off. David offers to pay for dinner because he's a true gentlemen and then lets Regina know that he's not about to give her up because of their families. He wants to at least try it out with her. It takes her a while but she end sup accepting his offer to try it out. They will go out, but on the condition that if one them is no longer happy then they'll end it. He agrees and says that he's not so clingy. Then he gets up the courage and lets her know that he went out with her sister Daniela when he was in Cancun, but that it's all over now. She doesn't take this well and slaps him hard across the face thinking that he wants to go out with both sisters. She then storms out of the restaurant. David tries to go after her but he accidentally bumps into another man who gets mad at him. In the end, David gets held back by the waiters at the restaurant who think David wants to get into a fight with the man.
Nina, wearing a dress and accessories that scream fashion horror, talks on the phone with someone. We find out that the children being helped at the event aren't what matter to Nina. What matters to her is seeing and being seen. Arturo walks into the room before she can find out who the owner of the foundation hosting the event is. Nina doesn't want for Arturo to be upset with her anymore and she tells him that she'll forget all about Regina's wedding. He is glad to hear that but she notices that he's still mad. He tells her that he is not mad, just a little upset, because Eladio wants to be president of the association. Nina is sure that Arturo will beat Eladio like always. She wants to forget about their problems and tells him that all she has ever wanted was to make him happy and apologizes if she has been mistaken. She promises that she won't ever bother him again with her jealous snits. She knows that he loves her and that if he hasn't been with her it is because he has been working. He kisses her on the cheek. Nina asks him if it really has been because of work that he has become so distant with her. He asks her what she's insinuating and assures her that he's not with anyone else. She knows. They have been so happy for many years and knows that he wouldn't cheat on her. He asks her why she asked then and she replies that well he knows how woman are. She tells him not to worry and understands that he can't accompany her to the event tonight. Then she gets teary eyed, and tells him that she'll have to get used to things being like that from now one. She then leaves to go and shed more tears in the bathroom. Arturo is left with his thoughts.
At the event, Montse-Rat arrives and talks to the press. She doesn't want to talk about her love life but can assure the press that she has a lot of love. And we on The Patio can vouch that she does have a lot and I mean a lot of love.
Inside the event, Arturo and Julia lock eyes and are about to walk towards each other to talk. But Arturo is intercepted by Nina who is all smiles to see that he has come to the event. While Julia gets intercepted by Mariano Santos and his wife. Arturo tells Nina that work is one thing and his family another
and he doesn't want her to think that he doesn't care about her things.
He kisses her and they toast to being together as Julia watches. Nina
then turns around to greet some people and Arturo turns around and he and Julia
stare at each other until Nina comes back to be with Arturo and Gabriela takes
Julia by the arm and tells her that it was best that she didn't get a chance to greet Arturo. Julia agrees because Arturo came to be with his wife and
not with her.
Erick and Consuelo arrive at the event.
Arturo talks with Agustin. He admits that Nina guilt tripped him into attending the event. Then he tells Agustin that he didn't imagine seeing Julia there. Agustin hopes that Arturo can control himself because Eladio is probably there too. Arturo knows. He doesn't want to make the war between him and Eladio even worse than it already is.
Montse-Rat walks over towards Eladio who has arrived at the event, but he stops her dead in her tracks before she can get any closer to him. He doesn't want to be seen with her in a public place and doesn't want for his wife to suspect anything. She tells him that it's hard to pretend and to live in the shadows. She says she'd love to be with him at all times and tells him that she is the star model of the event. She hopes that she won't get nervous knowing that he will be there looking at her. He tells her to get lost. Little do they know, that Franco has seen them together, and has a smirk on his face.
Julia is all smile because of the full house at the event. Agustin shows up. He and Gabriela meet again and he asks Gabriel to call him by his first name. Julia mentions to Agustin that Gabriela came to the city to study a career. He asks about Eladio and she tells him that he's coming soon.
Arturo and Nina get their picture taken. We find out that Daniela is coming to the event as well. Consuelo shows up asking them if they have seen Erick. They haven't,
Erick and Montse-Rat sneak off to some room to unleash the sexual desire that they are feeling for one another.
We end the episode with Arturo seeing Eladio and Julia together at the event.

Well, I'm glad that David was honest with Regina and let her know that he and Daniela went out while he was in Cancun. Now there is no danger of Regina finding out about this from someone else later on.

Nina is a major-league genetic narcissist, which goes with this territory. Consuelo is not a member of her family as far as she is concerned and it goes beyond her having married in. I will have more to say about that in my next chapter.
I have previously speculated that Consuelo may have become sterile as a result of an STD caught in the brothel as a child. Gonorrhea can be without symptoms in females and can lead to sterility. Nina could certainly make hay out of that.

Like others I was pleasantly surprised that David revealed the Daniela thing so early but that’s better than having him keep it a secret for several episodes only for it to be revealed at the worst possible moment for the sake of drama. Now it’ll be interesting to see how he convinces Regina to give him a chance so they can go back to being cute and kiss some more.
I wonder if the Casa Hogar Julia and Gaby work at is the same one where Connie and Clara grew up?
Nasty Monserrat and Erick once again did the nasty. God Erick is so controlling even threatening his sidepiece. Thanks Mauricio.Love your fashion commentaries and put-downs of Daniela. She and Momsy are most unpleasant I must say. But gorgeous, even in their awful, tasteless getups.
The previews really faked me out. I was afraid we were going to have a blowup between our Type A's, but no...at least not yet.
So tired of heroines blowing up and slapping people before hearing them out, but this seems to be standard telenovela behavior.
Well, the title is apt. Passion seems to be sizzling in every scene. I think my husband, passing through the family room, thought I was tuned in to some X-rated channel. These late night telenovelas are pretty darn steamy, I must say.
And UA, glad you're prepping some soup. That's what we've been eating for the past few days. Cold weather is here!

I must vigorously disagree with you about Nina's outfit. I thought that dress was both stunningly beautiful and exquisitely elegant and her hair was lustrous and that chained headpiece was regal. She made everyone else (including Julia and Consuela both of whom I adore) look mousy. The Nina Table is now open where shots of Patron Platinum are being served in cut crystal shot glasses.
I'm now firmly a Nina backer. Gringo, that it what a goddess looks like.

Carlos- I think Nina's outfit would have worked better if she took off either the headpiece or the necklace. But having both was too much, especially since her dress was already an attention getter.
I think there will be a close call because it's too soon for this discovery.

I've been thinking about Connie, and it just doesn't make sense to me that a woman who clawed her way up from being a child prostitute, and then finishing her teens in an orphanage, all the way to being a top model (and a decent human being, to boot), would allow a man to dictate what she can and can't do and give up her career for him. Would she really want to be so vulnerable and at a man's mercy again?
I've been thinking about Connie, and it just doesn't make sense to me that a woman who clawed her way up from being a child prostitute, and then finishing her teens in an orphanage, all the way to being a top model (and a decent human being, to boot), would allow a man to dictate what she can and can't do and give up her career for him. Would she really want to be so vulnerable and at a man's mercy again?
The combination of the headpiece, necklace, and patterned dress was overkill. The dress should be a solid color and/or the necklace should be shorter and simpler. The headpiece looks ridiculous in combination with those although the coiffure is excellent. I would recommend jeweled spin pins, strategically placed in the hair. They're a bitch to remove later, but look great floating within a coiffure like that.

Mauricio, this was great. Thank you for recapping the highs and lows (of which there were many)in such grand style.
"Over with the poor folks" and "Fashion design is not option given her taste in clothes" were among many favorites.

I think Consuelo said at one point that he courted her beautifully and did a 180 after the wedding. She needs to see this episode of Mujeres Asesinas. Not for the weak of stomach.

No UA, it doesn't creep me out. At their economic level, they probably have their measurements on record at the dress company, and he has good taste in picking out what would look good on them.

While I don't care for Nina's style headdress I'm guilty of wearing elaborate antique silver Asian hairpins with plenty of shiny bouncy dangles when the event calls. I have hand die Indonesian batik and Thai silk dresses in similar colors but not skin tight. I appreciate her shape but golly when she sweats you'll know.

Picking out clothes for someone can seem thoughtful or presumptuous. Depending on your outlook. Women often pick out clothes for their husbands. And when I was still a relative newlywed, my husband went to an exclusive shop and got a lot of good advice from the saleswoman and bought me some lovely things. I treasured the clothing and the fact that he went to a lot of trouble to try and get the right thing.
Of course he did not have Eladio's track record of control and abuse.
And UA and Susanlynn...all those soup ideas sound great. I have a some split peas on hand, plus onions, carrots, celery, potatoes and bay leaf. I'll probably fire up some more soup today.

I love Querétaro and I've always wanted to go back there. Now that Regina and David are staying in town, maybe I could go to see them. (Well, if they were real... and if I weren't afraid Regina would hit me after reading about herself here.)

I don't like Nina, but I do admit that the actress does have a nice body shape and you could see every nook and cranny in that dress. I say, if you have the body for it, why not show it off?

Actually if I was out shopping and the dress was presented to me, I wouldn't consider it. The color was not of my liking either. Green is a hit and miss color for me. I like a good rich forest green but there are so many variations of green that I don't think are pretty at all. The green in Nina's dress would never have been my choice. I didn't like it much or would the pattern either. I am not against patterns but this one did nothing for me. Actually it made my eyes want to look away from it, not towards it.
I like Nina's/Marlene's hair but Susana Gonzalez's more. The question was asked a couple of days ago as to how Nina's hair is kept or always stays on one side, over the same shoulder. That's a good question but one for another discussion. I do wonder though.
