New Telenovela: A Que No Me Dejas, Starts Monday, September 12, 2pm/1c. Synopsis And Cast

Looneyvision has finally deigned to air “A Que No Me Dejas” (“I Dare You To Leave Me”), the 2015 novela acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, in Mexico and the rest of Latin America.

“A Que No Me Dejas” was the biggest winner at Premios TVyNovelas 2016. It scooped up best script and/or adaption, best direction, best cinematography, best musical theme, best veteran actress and actor for Leticia Calderón and Arturo Peniche respectively, best female antagonist for Laura Carmine and, dare I say, it should have received the best male protagonist prize too, because Osvaldo Benavides deserved it heaps more than any other nominee in that category. The same producer, Carlos Moreno Laguillo, and the same writing duo, Martha Carrillo and Cristina García, that gave us such gems as “Amor Bravío”, “Quiero Amarte” and “En Nombre del Amor”, now bring us this remake of Carla Estrada’s “Amor en Silencio” (1988).

New Telenovela: Yago begins tonight. Here's a synopsis. Who is in? We need recappers.

Hi friends,

I ordinarily write the synopsis for a new show but because this one is starting tonight I'm giving you one I found elsewhere. If you would like a recapping slot please leave a comment. We need somebody for tonight if possible!

Our main character is Iván Sánchez. (See dreamy picture.) The story begins with Omar Guerrero, a simple young man living in a middle-class neighborhood next to his inseparable best friends Abel (Pablo Valentin) and Lucio (Flavio Medina). Omar’s life changes dramatically when Sara (Gabriela de la Garza) moves into the neighborhood with her father Damián (Manuel Ojeda) and her sister Ámbar (Ximena Romo). Damián is a conman who is about to pull off the perfect heist on the big Casino in the city. Unable to do it alone, he convinces Lucio, Abel and his daughter Sara to involve Omar. Even though Sara has fallen in love with Omar, her father manipulates her to go through with the plan. During the heist, a guard is murdered and Omar is framed for both crimes, and is sentenced to sixty year in prison. While in prison, Omar meets Fidel Yampolski (Patricio Castillo), an old and powerful mafia boss who becomes his mentor. After a prison riot burns the prison down, the two men plot an ingenious revenge; Fidel helps Omar get a new face and a new identity: Yago. Now, twelve years later, Yago has returned to execute his revenge upon the three people who betrayed him. But, will love be stronger than his hunger for vengeance?

New Telenovela: Yago - Synopsis & Main Characters. Gran Estreno Monday May 2, 2016. Recappers Needed.

Hello Patio Pals! I took the liberty to post this page as a brief introduction to the story and the characters of this exciting series, premiering tomorrow night at 9 pm EDT on Univision.

Yago is a remake of the Turkish drama series, Ezel, which is loosely based on the literature classic "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas (Père).

Iván Sánchez is Yago. Yago used to have a different name, a different face and a different voice. In what seems like another life, he was Omar, a kind and loving young man with a head full of dreams and a promising future ahead of him. However, everything came crumbling down when the love of Omar’s life, Sara, and his two best friends, Lucio and Abel, accused him of a crime he never committed. The crime in question made the traitors very rich and landed Omar in jail for life. Then, one day, Omar manages to fake his own death and he creates the Yago persona to exact his vengeance on those who robbed him of everything: of his family, freedom, innocence, love and life.

Gabriela de la Garza is Sara Madrigal, the woman whom Omar loved more than anything in the world. She ended up betraying him and destroying his life.

Flavio Medina is Lucio Sarquis, Omar’s best friend and one of the perpetrators of the crime for which Omar became the scapegoat.

Pasión y Poder Jueves 4/28/16 Gran Final, Part 3. #137 When All Is Said and Dunne...

Too often in life the lust for power and the love of family or objects of passion are in conflict with each other. Is it better to desire one and not the other? It's been said that he who would rule the world must forswear love forever. That does not only apply to emperors and dictators or even to mythical pagan gods. It is also about mortals and sometimes with more dire consequences.

My colleagues and I sometimes run into human stories about the inhuman and the inhumane that defy understanding. This has been one of them. – D.D.

Pasión y Poder, Gran Final, Part 2: Ep. 136, Thursday, April 28, 2016 Lies, Betrayal, Anvils Fall, & A Reconciliation (Finally!)

Well, this is it. My last PyP recap. It has been fun recapping this show and discussing it with all of you. Thank you so much for everyone who stopped by and jointed us on the PyP Patio. A special thanks to my teammates: Urban, NovelaMaven, AuntyAnn, and Cynderella for all their wonderful recaps. Also, many thanks Nandicta for the wonderful recaps that you wrote for us.

Here we go...

At GLA, Regina visits David in his office. Regina tells him that she found out that he is going to Australia. He confirms that he is, but didn’t think she cared. She has something that she wants to tell him, but he tells her that now is not a good time. They are having problems at the office. She understands that he doesn’t want to speak with her, it’s just that, well, umm… (but she doesn’t tell him what she came to tell him, instead she turns around and rushes out of the office, as if she’s got the runs). David starts to chase after her, but the doofus heads back into his office when his cell phone rings, instead of chasing after the woman he supposedly loves, because really, it was obvious what she came to tell him, and yet he let her get away. [Whatever]

Anyway, David doesn’t get a chance to even speak to whoever called him, because at that moment, security enters and lets him know that per Franco’s orders, he’ll have to hand over his name tag and abandon the premises. David refuses and tells the security guys that they can’t kick him out. Oh, but they can, at least that’s what Franco thinks. David tells Franco that the board meeting isn’t until the afternoon, so until then, they have no idea what will happen. But Franco is confident that the board members will back him up, after all he is the major shareholder of GLA now. David points out that they’ll have to see just how much longer Franco will be the major shareholder. Franco has heard enough and he orders security to get that imbecile out of there. Security obeys and they begin to approach David. But David asks them not to touch him (“no me toquen”) and lets them know that he knows the way out. He takes off his name tag, throws it on the desk, and leaves the office with his head held high. Franco smirks.

Pasión y poder, Gran Final, Part 1: Ep. 135, Thursday, April 28, 2016: Franco's VERY Hostile Takeover. (Say goodnight, Marintia! Say goodbye, Mr. Turtle!)

Part 1 of this Jumbo Gran Final is brought to you by NovelaMaven, by the letter "A" and by Argentina.

Eladio isn't even tempted

Erick, still smarting from his parents' fury upon their discovery that he was behind the baby's kidnapping, has shown up at GLA with a proposal to sell out Arturo.  Eladio sends him packing:

No trato con asesinos, con secuestradores, ni con cobardes...
(I don't deal with killers or kidnappers – nor with cowards.)

... and Erick fits the profile.  Let him to go back to his father, ask his forgiveness and beg him to take him back because Erick is one chimp who can't survive on his own.

¡Estoy harta! (Imagine how WE feel, toots!)

Marintia screams at Franco that she is sick and tired of being his Back Street Girl.  He needs to take care of the Gabriela problem now.

Pasion y Poder #134 The Cat's Out of the Bag! Finally! Wednesday 4-27-2016

Lo Nuevo

Art wants to get back together with Julia but Julia is not sure. I guess she's confused again. She says she's scared of their love.

David is back from working on the Rivera Maya project and visiting Eladio at the GL mansion. David says that the people from the Rivera Maya are going to be giving them a public recognition for their work. Eladio doesn't want to be included because it was all of David's work. He also thinks that Julia will be very proud of him. David asks his father if he's seen Julia. Eladio says he has not seen her because he is keeping his promise to not look for her (unlike some people) even though he is dying because he misses Julia like nothing else in the world.

Pasión y Poder Martes 4/26/16 #133

Chapter 133: Shattered

Tragedy happens to us all. Money, beauty, power, and position may think they are immune, but they are not. They will suffer just as much and will do their best to hide it in the process. Women will usually suffer behind closed doors while men maintain as stiff an upper lip as they can, at least in public. Healing takes its own time for everyone willing to learn a valuable human lesson. – D.D.

With tears in his eyes, Arturo told Julia he could not continue their relationship.
I have to put some order into my life. I don't know where to begin,” he said.
The only thing I want to tell you is that I don't want to leave you alone,” she answered. “I want to be with you while you're going through these difficult times.”
He turned away from her as though he didn't want her to see his tears get worse. “Julia, this would just make things more complicated than they are. I don't know what to do.”
I will be at your side. I'll be there as a friend to help you, to do whatever it takes.”
What I need now is recover my relationship with my children. That is what I have to do.” He turned around to face her again. “But that does not mean that I have stopped loving you. My children need me. My love for you has to wait.”
I know,” Julia said as she nodded in agreement. She held his hand and cried.
Thank you.”

Pasion y Poder #132 20160425 Mufasa Would Never Act Like This!

I rely on CCs to recap.  They were horrible last night.  Please fill in anything that I have missed.  Thanks.

So we're back at the casket, where observes Nina grieving for her daughter.  In Art's brain, they are sharing a moment, so he reaches out to caress her hand.  Nina let's him touch her for a few seconds, but then withdraws her hand.  She looks at him like he's got the cooties or something as she clutches a flower that she pulled from the casket.

Anyway, Julia, the shameless hussy, walks right in (followed by her cuckhold, Eladio) and walks up to Art.  She hugs him and he thanks her for coming. Anyways, Julia the shameless, hussy turns to offer her condolences to Nina.  Instead of smackin' Julia, Nina tells Julia to hit the bricks and to take Art with her.  She blames Julia and Art for Dani's unhappiness and overdose.  Art reminds Nina that he has the right to stay because he sired Dani.  Eladio pulls Nina away.

Pasión y Poder Capitulo #131 Friday, April 22nd 2016 While the rich folks grieve, the poor folks ride horses and play tennis.

Assmore ambushes Daniela in the bathroom and puts his cocaine infested hand over her mouth. "Surprise, surprise" he utters [and in English, so we are reminded that he's a gringo]. Daniela struggles to free herself from the slimy Assmore's grasp, but it's no use, he has the upper hand here. Assmore utters some more English words- a "relax" and a "good girl" - and he also tells her to "breath". He eventually whips out two baggies- one full of cocaine (a white powder) and the other full of pills. He tries to force the pills down her throat, but since she's able to fight him off, he instead decides that he'll put both baggies inside her purse, and it's clear that Assmore wants her mix the pills with the cocaine. He tells her to "fly", then tells her that he wanted to say his goodbyes, and promises that he won't bug her anymore. He eventually leaves the bathroom, but not before he blows a stomach turning kiss her way. Now alone, Daniela (still startled and recovering from the attack) approaches the sink and washes the cocaine (white powder- that was left on her mouth by Assmore) from her mouth. Then she takes out her cellphone, and still startled, calls David and asks her to come and get him.

Meanwhile, Erick teaches Luly about the American Manifesto ("In Good We Trust") using a dollar bill as a prop. Luly spots Assmore as he exits the bar, and she questions Erick about what Assmore is doing there. Erick pretends he doesn't have a clue. Luly gets up from her chair and wants to go and check up on Daniela. But Erick convinces her to sit back down. Erick spots Daniela as she comes from the bathroom and lets Luly know that Daniela is coming over to them.

Pasión y poder, Ep. 130, Thursday, April 21, 2016: It's a dog eat dog world. ¡Qué FEA! (Franco, Erick, Ashmore)

Arturo's day is off to a rocky start

Julia, clearly shaken by Nina's visit, tells Arturo that it would be best to end "this thing" and not see each other anymore.

The Careful Courtship Proceeds

In the infirmary of the foundation, Gabriela and Agustín enjoy the supper he has prepared at home as they keep vigil over little Diego, asleep on the cot.  When the boy groans fitfully, Agustín checks on him and comforts him, assuring him he's just having bad dream.  Agustín tells Gaby the boy still has a little fever and then puts a cool washcloth on the child's forehead.  "You like playing soccer?  You'll see – you'll be out playing again very soon."

Gaby looks on with an approving smile.  "You'll make a great father."  He returns her smile, reminding her that when he has a wife, he plans to adopt five kids.  "How long before you're married?" Diego asks.  He wants to be one of those five kids.  Agustín says he doesn't know – he's waiting for the woman of his dreams.

He looks meaningfully at Gabriela, but she refuses to catch his eye.

Arturo Montenegro Cannot Believe His Ears

This thing?  [¿Esto?]  That's what Julia is calling their relationship?  He'll talk to Nina and make sure she doesn't bother Julia again.  It's not because of what Nina said, explains Julia, it's because of everything else: "Regina and David – who really love each other – can't be together because of us."

Pasión y Poder Martes 4/19/16 #128

Chapter 128: Grand Gesture

Some people are incapable of doing anything small. It's not always a bad thing, but it can certainly be awkward in public.  When the whole world is watching there is no margin for error. – D.D.

Arturo and Daniela finished their conversation and he left. Nina caught the tail end of it and seemed relieved that things seemed to be improving. She hugged Daniela whose expression became more pained when she knew her mother couldn't see it. She definitely had been less than honest with her father and with herself.

Pasión y Poder (PyP) #127. Monday April 18, 2016. Let’s Face It, This Novela Is A Glamorized Version Of The Maury Povich Show!

At a glance

-- The cutting room floor fodder took over the whole episode. It seems to be a telenovela tradition to turn Últimos Capítulos into filler galore. Why begin lining up anvils, unravelling hidden truths and tying up loose ends when you can cram it all in the finale?
-- Arturo, PyP’s resident runteldat, runs to tell Julia that Eladio came to his office to provoke him.
-- Eladio, PyP’s resident rogón arrastrado (the crawling begging take-me-back), warns Julia against Arturo’s lies and manipulations.
-- Julia, PyP’s resident Princess Confudida, refuses to listen to anyone except the man who has manipulated her all her life, i.e. her toxic father.
-- Nina, PyP’s resident reformed villana, who never got to commit any real villainies, is flitting about the episode, distributing hugs, smiles and words of support.
-- David, PyP’s resident sisterfudger, is adamant to renounce to Regina while pining for her to anyone who would care to listen.
-- Regina, PyP’s resident love martyr, is adamant to renounce to David while pining for him to anyone who would care to listen.
-- Clara and Justino, PyP’s resident filler, are bugging everybody with their stupid wedding.

Pasión y Poder Capitulo #126 Friday, April 15th 2016 Three couples mate, two people get slapped, and no one gets an anvil yet. What gives?

(scenes have been combined for better flow)

Daddy Issues - Everyone has them in this novela

Julia meets with her shrink, who I call Dr. Phil, for some late night therapy. Julia admits that she needs more determination with her father. She still has trouble telling [the rat bastard- my words, not hers] "no". Dr. Phil listens, then asks, if the rat bastard [again, my words, not his] is still imposing himself. Julia replies- that her father has changed for the better, but that she feels like he's still capable of manipulating her in someway. With a stern look and voice, Dr. Phil, tells Julia to not allow her father to have that power over her. Parents should give their kids the roots so they grown with strength and values [values- hmm, that's something that no one seems to have in this show] and guide them so they can fly on their own, and not pull the strings of their lives. Julia agrees with this assessment, but admits that her father still wants to decide what's best for her. And right now, her father thinks that Arturo, is what is the best for her. Dr. Phil points out that her father thought that Eladio was what was best for her 20 years ago. So what matters now is what she thinks, he tells her. Julia says that her father thinks that her Mr. Right is someone who can give her the life of a queen. Dr. Phil points out that she had that life with Eladio, but she gave up the comfort that he gave her, so now they'll have to see what happens with Arturo.

Later, Julia is still get psychoanalyzed by her shrink, and this time, she tells Dr. Phil that the relationship she had with her dad influenced how she got along with the boys. She admits that she has always looked for her father's approval and love. However, she was never able to get it. However, her father has now changed, he's gotten closer to her, and she has no doubts that he does it out of affection. Dr. Phil asks her .. "and how does that make you feel?" Julia replies that it makes her feel good. How can she reject something that she has always wanted. Dr. Phil smells a rat bastard, so he tells Julia to analyze where her father's change is coming from. Julia looks puzzled [and seriously, when doesn't she look puzzled?]. The shrink also wants for her to realize that her value is not in how others value herself, but how she loves herself. Julia admits that it's hard for her to see things in that manner, because she has always looked for the approval of others. The shrink tells her that until she finds that love for herself, she'll never be able to find happiness, with Arturo, Eladio, or anyone else for that matter. Julia listens carefully and takes all that in.

Pasión y poder, Episode 125, Thursday, April 14, 2016: Dani's LOST! Wait – Dani's FOUND! And Art? Too busy plotting with Humberto to notice.

Agustín and Gabriela do lunch

How can Agustín make Gabriela see THE TRUTH about Franco?  Or at least as much of the truth as he himself is privy to?  He knows about Franco's financial double-dealings, but he hasn't yet learned about the Mouth Breather and child.  (And the chilling contempt Franco feels for his wife?  Is anyone but Gabriela blind to this?)

Gaby continues to make excuses for Franco's heartless behavior.  She knows that he went behind her back to sell her father's shoe factory, all she had left of her late parents.  But he still struggles with daddy issues, poor thing.   Now he has apologized and given her the proceeds of the sale, and she has decided to give him another chance.  After all, he is her husband, and in the end, he was acting on her behalf: the factory was bankrupt.

Agustín looks at Gaby with a mixture of pity and exasperation.  "Ay, Gabriela, maybe you should listen to something else of his," he says, holding up the USB drive Arturo gave him earlier.  "This is a recording of his attempt to blackmail Arturo."  [We know it also captures Franco saying he will sell Gómez Luna secrets to Grupo Montenegro for a price.]

A Surprising Alliance

As the Grupo Montenegro board meeting comes to a close, Miguel tells his father that he will make sure Eladio doesn't use Nina's proposal to harm the company.  [The camera angle widens and we see Nina at the head of the table, looking pleased.  Erick, of course, is scowling.]  Miguel uses the occasion to make another announcement: from now on, he'll be taking an active role in the corporation.  He'll use his power as a share-holder to ensure that his decisions and ideas are taken into account.

"You see, Dad," mutters Erick.  "That's what you get for putting company shares in that one's name and not in mine."  Nina and Arturo stare at one another.  Neither one blinks.

Pasión y Poder Martes 4/12/16 #123

Chapter 123: Paterfamilias Redux

Divorce sometimes sounds like an easy solution to a complex problem. The sad fact is that while it solves some problems it creates others. Rich or poor, this is never more true than when the divorced individuals are parents and when they try to compensate for past wrongs. Unfortunately, some become worse instead of better and for others it is too late. – D.D.

David brought Regina a cup of coffee as they waited for news from the doctor. He remembered how she preferred it. Arturo arrived in answer to their call. Before he could ask any questions, much to everyone's discomfort, Eladio and Nina arrived together.
Where is Daniela?” asked Nina.
Why did you come here with Eladio?” Arturo asked her.
Why are you together?” asked David. Eladio held up his hand to halt further questions.

Pasion y Poder 20160411 #122 David, The Crackhead Whisperer

Over a meal, Julia told Humberto that she gave her wedding ring back to Eladio.  Humberto is pleased.  Maybe Eladio will finally get a hint that Julia is over him.

Over the phone, Nina told Eladio that she is ready to sell her shares.  She will stop by his house tomorrow and they will continue on to the notary.  Eladio avoided temptation and asked Julia to meet him at the notary office instead.

Gabriela told Augustin that Franco sold her family's shoe factory behind her back.  Augustin called Franco a dirty rat bastard thief who do anything for cash.  Augustin informed Gaby that Franco blackmailed Art.  Gaby's all like Franco is an innocent angel and he would never do anything like that.  I got proof, says Augustin.  He takes Gaby back to the day that Julia was hospitalized for falling down the stairs.  Franco saw Art sneak into Julia's room.  The next day, Franco approached Art and asked him for hush money.  Like and idiot, Franco personally showed up at the Montenegro offices to negotiate the payment.  He didn't realize that he was being recorded.  Gaby is shocked.  She believed that she had convinced Franco not to tell Eladio.  Franco agreed not to bust Julia out because he loved her.

Pasión y Poder Capitulo #121 Friday, April 8th 2016 Hey, Guess What? My BF (Who is your ex) is a better lover than my ex (Who is now your BF). Hehehehe.

My BF is accompanying my ex and me to Monterrey. Darn.

Yamila tells Regina that she'll need more construction workers over in Monterrey. As luck would have it, Regina's BF is also her contractor, so Jorge will be tagging along to Monterrey with Regina and her ex-boyfriend, David. Regina, is uh, not too thrilled with the idea, and her face says more than a thousand words. But does Turtle Boy realize it? Nah.

Over at GLA.. Eladio has admitted to having done the deed with Nina. And Julia.. well she's NOT taking the news so well. She can't believe that Eladio has shamelessly admitted to it. Eladio reminds Julia that she's his EX and he did promise her that he'd tell no more lies. He then accuses her of having fooled around with Arturo (while still married to him) when she and Arturo saw each other over at the beach. She denies it, but he's not buying that story. He turns to head to his chair, and she grabs him by the arm, and wants to know why he got involved with Nina. Was it to get back at Arturo?! Was it to bother her?! He replies that he doesn't get what her problem is, they are divorced and each can do as they please. She turns around from him, and can't believe that he's being sooo stupid! (Honestly, I can't either, this little game of spiting your ex, is sooo high school, sheesh!) She then accuses him of doing this to get back at her for something she didn't do. We see as Eladio wants to reach out to gently put his arms on her shoulders, but he fights the urge to do so, and instead tells her that he's discovering what a marvelous woman Nina is. Oh, boy! Now Julia, who has been wearing her wedding bands, takes them off, and returns them to him, telling him that this was the last thing that was left of their marriage. She tells him that he can go ahead and stay with The Marvelous Nina and leaves the office. Now alone, Eladio talks to himself, saying that Julia hasn't realized that no woman as a marvelous as Julia is. He then professes his love for Julia. A love that he will always feel.
