CELIA:

NovelaMaven- I just watched Friday's episode of Celia, and then read your recap on last week's thread. As I am only catching this once a week, your recap was very helpful.

Can't believe Pedro has waited this long to 1) ask his wife for a divorce, and 2) tell Celia that he has a wife and kids. How humiliating for her when she finds out. We know it eventually works out for them, but I can only imagine that it will take her a good long time before she can trust him again.

Watching Lola is like watching a walking train wreck. I'm so nervous for her every time I watch. Even when she wasn't on drugs, her manic frantic state wasn't much different. I sure hope those flight attendants cut her a break and let her take a flight out. Glad she knows the truth about how her stepdaddy/molester killed her step-uncle/boyfriend. And she didn't do much of a good job of warning the band leader that his life was in immediate danger. Hope he makes it out alive.

I found it interesting that the America music investor guy was trying to force the Sonora owner/manager to drop Celia because of U.S. prejudice and segregation. There are all kinds of interesting stories of how songs originally written/sung/performed by Black artists in the U.S. around that time, were handed to white singers so that the music would be better sold to the wider/whiter audience.

TELEMUNDO...

“La Querida del Centauro” follows the story of Yolanda (Ludwika Paleta), an attractive and intelligent recluse. While in jail, she becomes the mistress of one of Mexico’s most notorious drug traffickers, Benedictino García (Humberto Zurita), alias “El Centauro.” Though this relationship gives Yolanda a lot of power while she is in prison, it becomes her worst nightmare once she is released thanks to the intervention of Gerardo (Michel Brown), a detective committed to the fight against drug trafficking. With El Centauro a fugitive, Gerardo decides to use Yolanda as bait in an operation to track down his hideout.

Celia

thanks NovelaMaven for your wonderful update,
I love how you see things!

say is this another Tia, because I was really loving Tia Ana.

CELIA

Vivi, I'm glad to hear you're watching. Yes, the American producer's reaction was telling (and probably had a lot to do with the fact that Celia, unlike Myrta, wasn't conventionally), but it wasn't all that much better in Cuba in 1953, according to what we've seen so far. Celia has overcome a number of racist and sexist hurdles because she is so extraordinary. Even so, she still sat in the back of the train when she traveled back to Havana with Pedro.

It's painful to watch Lola's story unfold. Yes, I hope she manages to get away.

La Querida del Centauro

Deb, thanks so much for the info. Michael Brown? It's going to be hard to stay away from this one, though I really need to stick to my Low-telenovela diet. :)

CELIA

Thanks, deb! Yes, it is another tía! She's not a replacement for Ana – or I hope not – but they really just sprang her on us without any explanation. At least she looks old enough to be the girls' aunt.

Bajo

Should have a recap up in about an hour.

CELIA
Monday, November 16

The barbudos have the night off to clean their rifles and pick their teeth.

Despite La Sonora's huge success all over Latin America, the gringo record company owner Sidney Segal continues to fret that Celia's color will affect his bottom line. Rogelio is very protective of Celia, although she seems oblivious to the storm around her.

She asks Pedro to accompany her on a visit to her father. On the train to Holguín, Pedro finally tells her about his wife and daughters. She is devastated by the revelation. They aren't his "past," she says – they are his present. He has been deceiving her since they met. She orders him off the train.

Meanwhile, Simón has come off a three-day drunk to pick up his paycheck. He is sounding off about how his daughter Celia has brought shame to his name. Just then, Celia approaches him, needier than ever, and overhears his insults. She tries very hard to please him, but he is implacable...until she invites him to hear her sing in La Tropicana.

Pedro is determined to win over Celia. His soon-to-be ex-wife is equally determined to make his life hell. She earns back her place as a dancer in Las Mulatas del Fuego just so she can get up in his face. When she learns that he is in love with Celia – really in love – she is livid.

Ollita gets another of her headaches, but this time she collapses. Fortunately, Noris and Gamita are present and they call for the doctor. Privately, Ollita confides to the doctor that she has been ill for a while, but she doesn't want her family to know. She asks him for morphine for her pain. (On a scale of 1-10, she says her pain is a 20.) He says he can't prescribe anything without doing further tests.

The evil, dwarfish captain and two soldiers are torturing Lola's bandleader, trying to get him to spill her whereabouts. Then Eliezar joins them and dispassionately applies a blowtorch. Later, when he pours water on his victim's face, the man does not react. What now? Eliezar tells the captain to dispose of the body and keep looking for Lola. Check out that Celia Cruz – she's her only friend and she could be hiding her.

At the airport, Lola tries to reach the bandleader by phone. She is told that some soldiers took him away. Then one of the ticket agents comes by and says if she doesn't board right now, she'll miss her plane.

The captain does show up at the Cruz house, but he is told that Celia is on the road. The soldiers do a fruitless search for Lola.

Did Lola make a clean get-away?

Is Celia going to lose her mother?

How long will it take Celia to forgive Pedro?

BAJO EL MISMO CIELO – LUNES – Parte 1 de 3

From Friday: Friday showed months having passed. Gracie shrieks 24/7, mostly at Sharon. Carlos has gotten a permission to work in the US. I think they said it’s not the same as a green card. I thought one got a green card then citizenship. I didn’t know there was something lesser than a green card. Luis is very cold with Susy, whom he met outside the Sanders home. He calls her Señorita Sanders. Jacob has asked Mati to interview the Robin Hood of the Barrio.

We see her arrive and spot Rodrigo. He sees her as well and takes her aside. Adela: “So this is what you’re doing with the dirty money.” Rodrigo: “I gave my word I would stay away from you and from my family. I haven’t seen you for months and you’re as beautiful or maybe more so than before.”

I get a kick out of how the makeup artists do changes demonstrating a passage of time. Adela's hair is somewhat different, she now wears false eyelashes and bright red lipstick, plus business style clothes.

Gracie bashes Sharon over the head and takes her phone to call Felicia. Eventually she gets through to Feli, but never gets to say more than “Rodrigo lied” because Sharon has come to and is pointing a gun at her.

Susy and Luis warm up a bit when she tells him about her parents getting a divorce. It’s clear they still are in love.

Adela and Rodrigo argue some in the street. He asks her if she would have cared where the money came from when she and her brother were scuffling in the streets to survive. He tells her he doesn’t ask the people for anything in return.

Carlos is at home and sees the tools he bought for Adela and remembers the moment when he gave them to her.

Rodrigo asks Adela why she came looking for him. Does she need help? She tells him she works in a magazine and came to interview the leader who is giving people help.

Rodrigo brings Adela to his office. He brags a bit. [It’s actually kind of sweet the way he’s trying to impress her.] He says this is where he controls everything. She notices the changes in him and says he speaks differently and dresses differently. He tells her Soy el mero-mero. (the top dog). She laughs and says he’s only the head of una sarta de delincuentes (a pack of criminals).

Felicia asks Willy to find out where Gracie called from. For once Willy won’t help. He says that Rod let him leave the gang because of helping him with Colmillo. But he’s obviously not going to risk crossing him.

Adela starts up a recorder saying it’s only to help her with the article. He doesn’t mind being recorded. He says he wants to show her who he really is. Adela asks him when he started helping people. Rod: “Really I never cared at all about the people until I fell in love with you.” He says that as much as he’d like to return her brother and her mother to her, he can’t. But by helping these people…Adela: “Let’s see if I understand. You think that by giving money, food, and clothing to these people it will wipe out all the wrongs you did?” Rod says it’s like creating a balance between the “business” he does to keep the gang going and the things he gives to the people.

BAJO EL MISMO CIELO – LUNES – Parte 2 de 3

Erick, behaving like the stereotypical annoying “other man”, interrupts a meeting that Jacob is having in his office. He asks why Jacob sent Mati alone to do this interview. Jacob gives him a serious look and says that she now can do her work alone and, furthermore, she knows this neighborhood well. He tells Erick he’s not her bodyguard. He can see that Erick wants to be something more, but it’s not going to be easy. He tells Erick that Mati was, or perhaps still is, in love with a really great guy. Erick confesses that he’s head over heels in love with Mati.

Rodrigo tells Adela that he had to make a sacrifice, keeping away from his brother. Adela: “And your father as well.” Rod: “I stayed away from him for other reasons, as you know perfectly well.”. He says he convinced the gang it was a good move to have the neighborhood on their side. But this was merely an excuse he gave them. He really did it all for her. He gets up saying he can’t control what he feels for her.

Luis confesses to his father that he still loves Susy.

Rod says that the fact that he’s stayed away doesn’t mean he hasn’t dreamed of her mouth, of her eyes. He gets close. She tells him not to dare to kiss her and raises a fist to him. He says this is what he loves about her. She tells him there’s been too much blood shed for him to fix it all with acts of charity. He wants to take her to her car. He says he’ll look out for her until the day she dies or until he stops loving her, neither of which has happened.

Just then Jay walks in. “Adela! You’re alive!” Rod tries to get her to leave. Adela gets right in Jay’s face, telling him they have an account to settle. He pursued her mother, used her to try to get to her. He snarks that Laura blinded him; but now Laura is dead and he can see. She lashes out, slapping him a couple of times. She leaves. Jay starts to go after her, but Rod pulls a gun on him. Jay: “You deceived us. You fell in love with her and have protected her.” Rod: “Colmillo is dead. There’s no longer a reason to go after Adela. Rod tells him that, if he opens his mouth he’ll kill him.

Uh. Oh. We see Colmillo move his hand in the hospital.

Rod tells Jay that Sharon will be the one to pay if he talks. Jay says that Sharon is watching Gracie. Rod tells him that neither he nor Sharon are indispensable.

Things seems to be going well at the bar. Rodolfo appears to be helping out there.

Jacob calls to set a time to meet with Débora and his lawyer about the divorce. He tells her to have her attorney there as well.

Sharon wants to tell Rodrigo about Gracie’s call to Felilcia, but Willy insists she keep quiet, as always protecting Felicia and what he thinks is his child.

BAJO EL MISMO CIELO – LUNES – Parte 3 de 3

Rodrigo comes home to his mansion. Gracie snarks at him asking how many people he killed today. He says he’s in a good mood, and she can’t get on his nerves today. She says he must have gotten it on with one of the chicas who wants to join the gang. He says he was with a woman, but he didn’t sleep with her. It’s not even necessary to have sex with her because only to see her me prendo (catch fire). He looks her in the eye and says that, yes, he’s in love with another woman.

Back at the magazine Paulina insults Adela saying something about it’s rare to see her not in motion, and thinking. She says that Adela must be thinking of Erick. She tells Adela that she didn’t waste any time, shooting for one of the bosses. Adela just laughs at her. She tells her she should get her money back from the ones that gave her a diploma in divination. She’s BAD at reading minds.

Adela is in Erick’s office. She tries to leave when he’s talking to his mother, but he motions her to stay. He tells her his mother is always trying to fix him up. Erick tells her that, if she has decided to get someone out of her life, she ought to move on and forget him.

Changing the subject Erick asks her how the interview went. She tells him she met with the Hero of East LA.

Débora gussies herself up and meets with Jacob and Jacob’s lawyer Andrés. She tells him that if he wants the divorce right now, she wants the house, half of the money in the bank and his magazine.

Rodolfo interrupts Maria and Felicia talking about Gracie and thinks it’s about him. Ay! Feli says she’s going to sell the bar. Maria says she’d love it if she and Rodolfo could buy it.

Erick: “So this guy is popular?” Adela: “People love him. He gives out food and money. There are long lines to see him." She tells him that when people have such a need they don’t asks where the money comes from.

Mati is called out. Erick invades her privacy and listens to the recording. He hears Rod say he’s in love with her.

At Casa Sanders. Jacob: “Not in a million years am I going to give in to this. You never were interested in my magazine. You’re only doing this to keep putting off the divorce!"

Ramona is greeting Carlos in the kitchen with pleasure. He’s come for the payment due his workers for the gardening work. Ramona goes in to ask Débora for the money. She has a fit, throws a vase of flowers to the floor and tells Ramona to shut up. She says that Ramona enjoys seeing her humiliated. She steps on Ramona’s hand, pushing it into the broken glass. Ramona screams with pain. Débora: “Why do you always make me lose control??” Carlos runs in, stoops to help Ramona. He looks at Débora. “Did you do this?” She denies it.

Back at the magazine, Adela has come back in to Erick’s office. She asks what he’s doing with her recorder. Acting like the usual jealous ass, he asks: “Who is this guy who is in love with you?”

Bajo. Yet another excellent recap, novelera! I loved the way Adela cut through Rodrigo's "benevolent" pretensions. Cristóbal and the police are planning to let it be known that El Colmillo is alive, and make it appear that he is more alert than he actually is. The goal is to use him as bait to catch the rest of La Colonia. What could possibly go wrong? :) I hope Débora is finally called to account for all her abuse of Ramona! For once, an objective outside observer--namely Carlos--is present, and that may make all the difference. And it looks as if Greicy hasn't been seeing an obstetrician. Worrisome.

Bajo

Thanks, SpanProf, for posting about the cops wanting to use El Colmillo. I forgot to mention that. Yep, it's going to be veeeery interesting when that happens.

I hate to say something like this, as I'm not a violent person, but Rodrigo should just kill Jay and get it over with. He's been a thorn in his side since the beginning.

I will be very disappointed in the writers if Débora gets away with what she did to Ramona last night. Carlos is the very person to put a stop to it, but Ramona always denies that anything happened to her. Carlos could surely find some place for Ramona in his thriving new gardening business.

Bajo

If there are lurkers out there reading the recaps and comment threads for this fine novela, I need you to post something. It's very discouraging to work on a recap, translate things that seem interesting to me, put it up there, and get one person who comments. I don't care if comments are fabulous, just that there are some.

It's not seeming like it's worth my time and effort doing recaps.

BAJO

Novelera, I always read and enjoy your recaps. The problem is that I am usually a beat or two behind so I never have anything intelligent to contribute to today's conversation. I know how you feel though.

You definitely have readers who would miss your recaps if you decided to stop writing them. I hope a few of them step up and tell you so. In the end, it's up to you. You do have one faithful commenter (and a very astute one, obviously) and a core of folks who stop by frequently. But yeah, I get it.

Bajo. I love your recaps, novelera! Don't stop. Quite often one of your remarks will make me think about something in a Bajo episode which I hadn't even considered, which will then lead me to comment, and I think that is one of the main purposes of recaps.

BAJO

Novelera, I'm sure there are more of us reading your magnificent recaps. I didn't have a chance to read today's until now, and as I went to say "thank you," I saw your note urging lurkers to post. I too hope more people will post. You deserve LOTS of praise and thanks.

I liked your suggestion that Carlos might be able to find employment for Ramona in his growing enterprise. Perhaps he could do so for Juana as well. We didn't see her in last night's episode, IIRC, but she's certainly in desperate need of rescue and new employment. Juana's case may be more difficult, since Alan the [expletive deleted] apparently knows how to find her mother and daughter.

Bajo. And in my opinion Bajo is head and shoulders above most of the telenovelas out there. It treats very important problems of a significant % of our population, and although, yes, it does have some "novela"-ish plot twists (like EC not really being dead:)), most of it is pretty faithful to real problems of realistic characters--staying in the country, getting a decent education and a decent job, though undocumented, dealing with ICE, gangs in latino communities etc.. As I have said before, I have had Dreamer students who have confronted some of those same problems.

Bajo

Spurring people to think of a comment is the reason why recaps are so important to keeping this blog alive. We who prefer Telemundo novelas just don't get the traffic that the folks who recap Univisión novelas get.

So I can get by on a low-calorie diet, but lately it's been feeling like a no-calorie diet except for you, SpanProf. Your comments are always very astute!

Bajo. I also like it when people comment with information on immigration law, possibilities for the undocumented to marry legally or work legally, etc., although lacking a green card.

Bajo. Thank you, novelera! Happy to belong to a mutual admiration society! :)

Bajo. And even in the EC still being alive plot twist, I believe it was Floridia who mentioned that Gabby Gifford, the congresswoman, was probably as badly injured, but made a remarkbale, though not complete, recovery.

Bajo

I'd bet the farm that Colmillo is going to wake up, escape from the hospital, and go after Rodrigo. And he'll probably be helped by Jay, who's been a malcontent since the novela started.

Celia

thanks so much NovelaMaven !!!

dwarfish and Sleazar (with the white hankerchief) are quite the pair to draw to, run, Lola, run, so much for having a boyfriend.

I'm glad Pedro finally spilled about his wife and kids, of course Celia was the only one that didn't know, can't blame Rogelio for trying to keep them apart.

I like the way Noris badgers the army guys, there's no shutting her down.

I think I like Simon better in another town, hope he doesn't come back to Havana to stay.

Bajo. Yep. And I have thought all along that Rodrigo would end up redeeming himself by sacrificing his life for several other characters, and at the same time definitively taking El Colmillo out for good.

Bajo

terrific recap novelera !!!

not to mention I found this novela a tough one to recap since a lot of the story is in what people are saying.

Bajo
I so appreciate all the recappers.

This TN is fantastic, in fact I just told them that over at PyP, which is mostly crap.

All of the Bajo side stories are good, none on PyP.

Celia
I'm watching, so afraid for Lola

Bajo

Thanks, Variopinta! I watched the first episode of Pasión y Poder and have the rest of them sitting on the DVR. It was hard for me to watch Colunga being a bad guy. The only reason I started recording it was because of him. He's SO charming. I saw some of the interviews he did as promotions for the new flick with he and Yáñez - Ladrones - and he's just charm personified. I read somewhere that some folks thought he was overacting in PyP because of not being used to playing villainy.

But I appreciate your spreading the word about Bajo. It's so realistic. And I'm over narconovelas. Rodrigo sells drugs, but that's not the emphasis of the novela.

Bajo
Novelera, the only reason I'm sticking with PyP is FC. I wish he would go to telemundo to get some meaty roles. I wanted him to do a villain role, but PyP is over the top. Remember him in Amor Real, he was sort of villainess, and played anger so perfectly, come back !! Carla Estrada!!

Colunga

Yes, Variopinta, I vividly remember Colunga's angry period in Amor Real. I think what Estrada was trying to say was that having that hard upbringing where he was an illegitimate child hardened him. When he thought Mathilde had been unfaithful and that her baby wasn't his, he was horrible to her for a very long time. But Colunga managed to show that it was coming from a wounded soul.

BAJO

I was the one who made the point about Gabby Giffords. However, I don't think she was in a coma for months, the way EC is. It's unlikely that someone shot in the head AND in a subsequent coma for several months will make the sort of recovery that Giffords is making. But with telenovela medicine, one never knows!

Here is Floridia's comment:

Hi Novelera,

If I am home, I always comment, even if it is not much, because I really appreciate the attention you give to this riveting, unpredictable telenovela.

Today I am commenting late because I left the house early and returned late.

In an earlier episode someone in the gang commented how Rodrigo did not abuse alcohol or drugs -- he hardly drank, if at all. Now it seems as if he has taken up the hard liquor habit, and I am wondering if he is also into cocaine. It seemed to me that he was sniffing a lot in this past episode. According to my limited knowledge on the subject, sniffing is one of the tell tale signs.

SpanProf - It was not I who mentioned Gabby Giffords, but she is an excellent example
of someone who survived an incredible blow to the head.

I was not worried that Rod would force himself on Adela because he cares about her too much, but she would have fought him off had that occurred. She is not afraid of him. She is disgusted by him -- even though he insists that they are equals, cut from the same cloth. He fails to comprehend what she stands for.

I mentioned this before, and it is not a spoiler; it's just a guess.
I believe that eventually Greicy, Rodrigo, Felicia, and Willy will die.

Carlos and Adela will bring up the two babies -- even though Felicia's baby
may be Willy's. They, of course, will have their own children, and possibly twins.

Something like this happened in Destilando Amor. Rodrigo in that show became attached to a boy baby that was not really his. His mother changed for the good at the end of the novela, and she let Rodrigo play a large role in his upbringing;

Felicia is an interesting character, and the actress plays her skillfully.
She really cares about Greicy and shows her tender - non murderous side when she
speaks about her or is with her. Later Rod and la Gaviota had several children of their own.

Bajo
"f there are lurkers out there ..." I'm out there and all I can do is read right now because the inevitable finally happened and I'm dealing with my mother's funeral out of town. It's all crazy and the best I can do is say thank you for keeping this going. I know how you feel and I love the care and attention that you put into your writing. Can't comment now because I haven't really seen the shows but I read when I can. You are the best! —Agnes

Dear Agnes,

I'm so sorry for your loss. That something is inevitable doesn't necessarily make it less painful. I wish you well as you work through all the sad aftermath.

Thanks for taking a moment to stop by and lend your support to Novelera and her wonderful recaps.

Bajo. Thanks, Juanita! I thought the Gabby Giffords comment was a very good one, which is no doubt why I remembered it! But of course in Bajo, coma or not, the plot and the viewer's expectations just about demand that El Colmillo do something more than just lie there.

BAJO,

NOVELAMAVEN,

Thank you for re-posting my comment under my TN pseudonym. Something went haywire, and my last sentence re Destilando Amor got posted in the wrong paragraph.

I will wait to comment on last nite's engrossing episode which offered another pleasant surprise near the end.

Again, many thanks

Bajo. A little contrived how Carlos just happened to have taken Ramona to the very hospital where El Colmillo was hooked up to the machines, just close enough to the emergency room so that Carlos could see the police outside the room and wonder what was going on. Also a little contrived that the officer on duty just happened to be gullible and not over bright, so that Carlos was able to get in the room and see EC. Otoh, whoa ho! The plot thickens further, especially since the person Carlos got on the phone to come learn about EC's survival would appear to be Rodrigo! Never a dull moment!

Bajo. Though I do kind of wonder...doesn't Rodrigo have more than one mafia don outfit?

CELIA

Tuesday, ep. 26

Simón's mistress walks in during his self-serving, self-pitying rant to Celia. [Paaaapi, te traje el desayuno] Now she knows who her father really is. Rather than apologizing, he lashes out at her.

Realizing that Lola has taken her passport, Eliezar and the captain hurry to the airport where they learn that she has taken the flight to New York.

Ay, ay, ay. Lola, wandering through the streets of New York in her rich girl clothes and lugging her suitcases and purse, is a magnet for predators. She puts her trust into the first person who promises to help her. The guy is obviously a bum and a junkie, but stupidly, Lola follows him believing his promises to introduce her to someone who can help her break into the American music scene. She ends up in a dumpster – no money, no jewels, but thankfully, still breathing. It is another street person who rescues her from the dumpster and feeds her a sandwich. He is Billy Echeverría – in Basque, it means "of the red house," he says. And it is destiny itself that has brought them together.

In desperation, René forces Gamita to continue working for him by threatening to sue him for contractual noncompliance. Gamita does stay, but he is resentful.

Celia doesn't tell her mother and sister about Simón's other woman, but she does admit that he's drinking and not working. On learning about Ollita's health crisis, she visits the doctor to get at the truth. The doctor is vague – the test results are still pending. He encourages Celia to help her mother escape from her worries and enjoy herself.

Celia tells Noris that Pedro is a married man with children. Noris, shocked, lectures her about consorting with a married man, using nearly the same words Celia used with Simón's mistress.

Raquel invites Mario to be her guest at the Tropicana on the evening of Celia's performance.

Rogelio explodes at the odious gringo record producer for his snarky, racist remarks about Celia. Celia hears Rogelio's spirited defense of her (Celia Cruz es la joya absoluta de La Sonora), but unfortunately, she also hears about thousands of letters from the public critical of her ("She is a disaster – a stick in a skirt!"). Celia is stunned. Up to this point, Rogelio has shielded her from anything negative. It is Pedro who gets her to calm down, reminding her that this is the price of fame and even Myrta had her detractors. She is still upset that once again, someone she trusted has kept the truth from her.

Ramón Cabrera (new guy!) has composed a song in Celia's honor (No sé que tiene tu voz...), and he seems quite taken with Celia herself.

The barbudos are planning a raid to rescue their comandante, who is a prisoner of the state.

Celia has a triumphant night at the Tropicana. Ollita and Noris are front and center in the audience. The sour gringo continues to doubt her, but Ramón assures him: ¡Esa negra tiene tumbao!

At the end of the set, someone tosses an orchid to Celia. She looks out and sees her father, all in white. Is she imagining him or is he really there? His cheeks are tear-stained and he is mouthing the words: ¡Te amo! She steps off the stage, threading through the crowd of admirers, and follows the apparition outside. She catches a glimpse of a figure in white as he disappears into the night.

Bajo: Thank you for the stellar recaps. I don't watch during the week(no time) but I read the recaps and catches up on weekends. I need your recaps so please know they are very appreciated. I feel if I whave nothing to say then I should be quiet but I'll remember to thank the recappers from now on.
By the way, what Carlos has is a work permit which is limited to having permission to work and stay in the US temporarily. It does not lead to a green card by itself(must qualify by other means) It has to be renewed every year or 2 and it can be revoked.
Romy

Celia

wow, NovelaMaven, once again I am amazed at how gracefully you flow through a night's show capturing it's essence in a few paragraphs.

Celia

Thanks so much, anon 1:27! (deb?)

CELIA:

Thanks so much, NovelaMaven. I plan to catch up a bit this Thursday, since there won't be any shows on Univision. Looking forward to seeing Celia perform on stage.

Celia

You're welcome, Vivi. And thanks for reminding me about Thursday – a night off! Woo hoo!

BAJO

We saw Rodrigo's cruelty in the past, and now we are seeing him being downright cruel to Greicy with every word he utters and every gesture he makes. And he was like a child putting on the ear phones and not listening. She is alone all day craving companionship and all she has is Sharon, the robot pawn and guard dog. I imagine her hormones are raging with her pregnancy and she feels like a caged lion.

In spite of what she says, she does have feelings for Rodrigo, and that makes everything worse. Admittedly, she has very poor aim.

Rod plans to ditch Greicy afterwards and raise the baby himself?
I thought he cared about family --especially about mothers??

I forgot to mention the other day that he now wears rings - symbols of empowerment.
He claims Greicy is sick, but he is even sicker.

I am going to concentrate on Jacob and Maria. I just loved the idea of the new partnership in the restaurant business!

Yes, SpanProf - contrived, but at least we could not predict it since everything happens so fast.

Where is Juana?

Bajo. Good observations, Floridia! Loved those rings; they're almost a parody of a mafia don's. And yes, Jacob and María seem so good for each other that you have to hope they'll get together for good. And I must say, I also kind of enjoyed Cristóbal and Chabela's kiss. Does it seem to you that she's dressing in at least a marginally more respectable way?

Bajo. Greicy is definitely up to something, but we don't know what yet. Hope the baby doesn't end up getting hurt!

Bajo. Romy. Wonder if that's the kind of work permit Justin Bieber gets when he tours in the US?

Thanks to everyone who chimed in on my desperate appeal for some company on the blog! I will continue recapping, but Mondays are the only days I can usually do longish ones. I work four days and Monday is my day off so I can spend more time on it.

This week I’m totally jammed, so won’t be able to recap until Friday, other than comments

OK, this novela always has pleasant surprises. Rodrigo is not going to be completely blindsided by Colmillo showing up at the gang headquarters and shooting him.

If Jacob buys the bar and Maria puts in the sweat equity as her contribution, this could be the start of something great. Of course, Rodolfo is going to have to take over the lion’s share of the child care. Running a restaurant is grueling. But I guess TN’s don’t really go into all the 80 hour weeks that would be required.

Juan Pablo Llano isn’t supposed to be a villain in this one. But, as Erick, the insistent way he probed Mati about her relationship with the Robin Hood of the Barrio reminded me uncomfortably of the evil guy in Los Dueños del Paraíso. I loved the way she refused to tell more than, as she said, was required to give him as a boss. She said she was not going to say which gang or the name of the guy she interviewed y punto!

I also enjoyed Cristóbal and Chabela kissing. I think Cris’ affection for Alex kind of guaranteed that these two would end up together. And Chabela has matured somewhat.

I don’t think Rodrigo planned to ditch Gracie after the child is born. But she’s insisted she doesn’t want him to see his child. So he may feel the only way to guarantee his own parental rights is by shutting her out after the birth. I still don’t think he’d kill her. I think he’d be fine with her staying in the mafia mansion and raising her child and having a friendly, sibling like relationship with him. But Gracie loved him too much and is too bitter to go for that.

Oh, and Felicia is expecting a girl. Gracie probably doesn't know since she hasn't had her prenatal visits.

Bajo
I thought Felicia was cute realizing the Jacob/Maria attraction. Felicia is rarely cute or even tolerable. Good acting, motherhood makes a difference.

Colmillo always make me think of Hannibal Lector

I don't know what I want for Debora, she is clearly sick. Why did it take Jacob so long to leave? Ramona was in a similar situation as pobre Juana w/o sexual abuse. Juanna just breaks my heart & I want revenge.

Didn't they sth about Deborah's background, maybe a reason for her cruelty?

Bajo. And tonight Rodrigo was sporting a different godfather-type outfit, this time in a striking royal blue. :) And what is Debora's secret? Interesting that she's always been nuts.

Bajo. Carlos is quite jealous of Erick and obviously still in love with Adela as she is with him.

PRECIOSA PERLA:

I have been watching this the last few weeks and enjoying it. I know Anita is trying to catch up. Is anyone else getting annoyed with Perla? I mean, I know she's the Chosen One and all, and wise beyond her years. But I'm getting tired of her trying to force the adults around her to immediately forgive Ernest for abuse, lying, cheating, killing, child slavery, false imprisonment, the list goes on. You name it, he's done it!

BAJO

And Jacob is also very much in love. I am wondering if Rudolfo will be tempted to
stray again soon. I hope so. Let's get him out of the picture, pronto!

Sharon spills the beans about Rod being in love with Mati.
Greicy delivers an ultimatum to Sharon: "Bring Felicia here, I will tell Rodrigo you betrayed him."

Ramona has big secrets.
Susy is not fooled by her mother and is fed up with her; plans to live la casa.

Rodrigo has a new female victim.

Things are heating up.

Bajo. Hi, Floridia! I thought Rudolfo seemed to be eyeing that new young waitress at La Frontera Bar rather suggestively. One can only hope! Wouldn't you know that Yei's plan to get back at Rodrigo would backfire by getting Felicia involved. And thinking about Rodrigo's new outfit, it seems a little bit more Las Vegas or Miami than LA--maybe something an actor would have worn in Scarface.

Thanks for the recaps. I enjoy reading them.

@Span, But, did you know if you can invest a million dollars in some business that will benefit the US economy you can get a "green card" know as as residency permit to stay indefinitely. I bet Justin and the likes get an O-1 visa. To qualify for an O-1 visa, the beneficiary must demonstrate extraordinary ability by sustained national or international acclaim and must be coming temporarily to the United States to continue work in the area of extraordinary ability. They can keep renewing it for as long as they want.

BAJO

SpanProf,

Rodrigo is trying to find himself or get in touch perhaps with his inner self.
Remember when Al Gore hired a wardrobe consultant?

I wonder how far Rod's house is from gang headquarters?

BAJO

Romy,

Forgot to thank you for the additional input you provided regard to immigrants, workers,
work permits, etc.

Bajo

Erick is SO skating on thin ice of a workplace sexual harassment lawsuit. Sadly, I don't think Adela would do that, being undocumented and all.

Yep, Erick smelled the attraction between "Mati" and Carlos and put his arm around her waist. I hate the guy. He also told someone that by dropping her off at her apartment he'd made some headway in his pursuit of her. Whaaaat? That makes no sense at all.

It was really funny when Paulina was trying to embarrass "Mati" by saying she'd serve tamales to some visiting business clients. And Erick showed up and loved the idea of Mexican food. Adela then was inspired by great ideas for a Mexican theme.

There's a Spanish expression: va a arder Troya that perfectly describes what is going to happen because of that miserable rat Jay. He convinced Sharon to out Adela as Rodrigo's love interest. And Gracie is livid and will cause a bunch of bad stuff to happen, I'm sure.

Thanks, Romy, for the million-dollar comment. There are a lot of Indians and Chinese in the area where I live who start Silicon Valley companies and thus are able to obtain legal status to live here.

At least Rodolfo's greed convinced him to not try to block the restaurant purchase. Having Maria and Jacob work together can only promote the romance we all hope for. But it's true that Rodolfo has to screw up. Only last night did Maria really say they were "reconciled". I thought he might still be sleeping on the sofa. She's too straitlaced to leave Rodolfo unless he precipitates something.

Did Ramona leave the building? She said she was going for some air just before revealing the big secret. I hope she didn't leave and go back to Casa Sanders.

So we now know that Débora was a bad seed as a child. Ramona, of course, just called her traviesa (mischievous), but if I remember right she described some nasty things she did. I remember long ago there was some mention of an aunt and a problem. I wonder if she harmed the aunt.

Bajo. I too thank Romy for the information on all the kinds of legal status and work permits. Now all Carlos has to do is become a multi-millionaire and invest in a high tech company and he's safe. :) And yes, it's likely that Débora's secret is a lot more awful than we might have suspected. I had thought that it was something like having undocumented or farm laborer parents or something--but now it looks much more sinister. Al Gore's wardrobe change didn't work out all that well for him either, unfortunately.

Bajo. Wow! Rodrigo is acting like a narcissistic thug with that intensive care nurse. Dirty pool to threaten her child, R.!

BAJO

Belated thanks, Romy, for your many helpful remarks about immigration issues. I always appreciate them, even when I forget to thank you.

Erick has bothered me from the first moment he appeared. His icy stare seemed to me to signal from the start that he was trouble and troubled.

SpanProf, with the way Carlos has built up his business in relatively little time, it wouldn't be all that surprising if your suggestion turned out to be an accurate prediction: he might indeed keep expanding the business into a multi-million dollar enterprise and get his green card, at the end of the novela if not sooner.

I think the writers are doing an impressive job of showing both sides of Rodrigo's nature. He had started to win me over again until the last few episodes, where his treatment of Greicy and, in last night's episode, his chilling treatment of the nurse, made me remember how cruel he can be, and be so with frightening ease. On the whole, I'm not ready to predict who will be dead by the end of the novela and who will suffer other kinds of punishment (a manicomio for Débora?), but it's been clear for a long time that Rodrigo will not be among the living.

Bajo: Everyone it is my pleasure to add any helpful information on immigration or it's pitfalls as I can. It is nice to know it is appreciated. I come from an immigrant background and although, I was lucky to come legally I know many are not that lucky. Erick is creepy and possessive, no liley. Adela needs to be more forceful in putting him in his place. Debora is a nut and now poor Ramona seems to have had enough. Good for her. Greicy is a ticking time bomb with good reason, I might add. Is it bad if I confess that I like Rodrigo? I do, can't help it. I kind of get where he's coming form, a bit. Why can't Carlos know Rodrigo likes Adela? It's not a good thing but, I mean, nothing happened between those two.
Romy

Bajo. Rodrigo is getting downright delusional about Adela. There's no way she's ever going for him, whether she gets back together with Carlos or not (and, come on, this is a telenovela, of course she's going to). Gacho is perfectly right to point out how hopeless the situation is--though of course he won't listen. Loved how María did NOT want to hear about the sexual encounter between Chabela and Cristóbal. Otoh, Chabela is perfectly right that if they don't have enough of a relationship for him to introduce her to his relatives, they don't have a relationship period. Love how Ramona is getting the upper hand over Débora, and btw, it's yet another excellent example of the uses of tú and Ud. Also, if Adela weren't 1 of the 2 romantic leads of a tn, I would worry about Yei's showing up in her apartment.

Bajo: Could Rodrigo go over the edge of the abyss if Adela never return his love as he's hoping? Yikes!
Romy

Celia

ok, from various sources and trying to keep it simple...

Santería is a religion of Caribbean origin which developed in the Spanish Empire among West African descendants, In order to preserve and shield (mask) their traditional beliefs, the Lucumí people syncretized (merged) their Orichás with Roman Catholic saints.

Olódúmaré, Owner of the universe, supreme god, to the Yoruba of Nigeria, this sky god is the discern-er of hearts, 'he who sees the inside and the outside of man’. Active in celestial and terrestrial affairs, he is able to do all things; he is the enabler of all who achieve any ends. No one has ever seen this ‘king who cannot be found by searching’, yet as Olodumare he is omnipotent : a mighty, eternal rock, forever constant and reliable.

The Orishas are Olodumare’s eldest children. They have been tasked with maintaining this Earth, watching over the affairs of humanity and each has dominion over a portion of nature. They are more akin to demi-Gods in the religion of Santería. Because Olodumare has moved on to create other universes, we do honor and praise him but focus our worship around the Orishas and our relationship with them.

Ochún (Oshún) is the youngest of all the Orichás. When Olodumare finished creating the earth, he sat back and contemplated his work. He realized something was missing: sweetness and love, the two things that would make live worth living. So, he created Ochún and sent her to earth to cultivate those qualities in others.

Does nobody else watch Senoa Acero here? Lol

CELIA

Deb, thanks for the info on Santería. It really helps with Thursday's episode which, by the way, was incredible – almost all music and dream sequences. We had to let go of the linear narrative for a while and just let our right brains take over. So Celia dreams of her father and of Africa and of her childhood listening to those rhythms and then they become part of her and her music. And back in New York, Lola has stumbled on those same rhythms and mythical figures, courtesy of crazy Billy Echeverría.

On Friday, some sell their souls for their dreams:

Lola robs a tough street merchant and Billy holds a competing singer at knifepoint all so Lola can get heard in the bar. And yes, she makes an impression.

Raquel finally gets the break she has struggled for – a role in Celia's new movie. The catch: it involves lots of physical action so she CANNOT BE PREGNANT. Only she just found out that she is. Ni modo. She happily lies about it to the producer. This is not going to end well.

Some tragic news for the Cruz sisters:

Ollita is diagnosed with bladder cancer.

SEÑORA ACERO

Surge, I'm pretty sure some people are watching SA, but nobody has chosen to recap this show. There are a handful of comments, though (like this one) :-)

Bajo - Friday, Part 1

I'm going to try to mention some of what I remember from last night's (Friday's) episode. It started where Thursday's left off: with Yei (who had broken into Adela's apartment) confronting Adela about her identity. He accuses her of having been responsible for the deaths of two of his friends. She in turn tells him that they kept hunting her, stalking her like an animal. It turns out that Yei's resentment of Adela goes back to their childhood. They grew up in the same neighborhood, and he says that she always thought that she was better than everyone else, but in fact (according to Yei) she and her brother were nothing more than traitors. Adela is furious that he mentions her brother, when he, Yei, was responsible for the deaths of both her brother and her mother. In the course of this extended scene, Yei says a number of other interesting things. One is that he didn't kill Adela's brother and had nothing to do with the death of her mother. Apparently, Yei says, El Faier didn't tell Adela all the truth about her mother's death. Yei also asks her how El Jardinero felt when she threw him over for his son. When Yei sees the look on Adela's face, he asks "Doesn't el jardinero know?" The third thing Yei says is that he's not going to kill her, not now, but eventually the gang will learn who she is and that El Faier deceived El Colmillo, and she'll never be able to live in peace, never be free.

The scenes with Yei and Adela were followed by one or two with Luis and Rodrigo. Luis went to see Rodrigo to try to find out where Greicy is and how she's doing, since no one has seen her or can reach her by phone. Rodrigo lies to Luis, of course, telling him that she's in Mexico and doesn't want anything to do with him and doesn't want his help. Luis finds it strange that Rodrigo seems to care so little about all this, esp. since Rodrigo keeps saying that family is so important to him. Luis asks Rodrigo what he's hiding.

Rodrigo takes Luis to a rather nice restaurant so they can have a talk away from the gang. Rodrigo is upset when Luis tells him he's not planning to go to university. Rodrigo tells him that he should make something of himself, and the way to do that is by going to university and having a good career. He offers to pay all the university costs; what he wants in exchange is to see that Luis earns a diploma. Luis tells him that he doesn't want his help, that if he decides to go to university it will be because he wants to, not to please his father or his brother, and he'll do it with his own earnings, not the laundered money that Rodrigo has offered.

The other theme of interest to me in this episodio was the unmasking of Débora as the perra she is. Jacob's magazine publishes Mati's story about mistreatment of undocumented immigrants without Jacob's having seen it ahead of time, since he was away from the office planning to buy the restaurant where Maria works and have her as the restaurant's cook and his socio. Jacob is astonished and horrified when he reads the story. He's taken aback that he could have been so blind to something so awful occurring in his own house. He storms out of the office to confront Débora, who is already being confronted by two of her fair-weather friends. She tries to deny to them that she's the person being described in the story, but the details of the story match too well with what they've heard her say about Ramona, about Susy's relationship with Luis, and about Carlos.

Jacob asks Ramona why she didn't denounce Débora or at least tell him what was happening. Out comes The Secret: Ramona is Débora's aunt.

Bajo - Friday, Part 2

There were other parts of the episode that I haven't mentioned: 1) scenes with Carlos and Felicia, 2) scenes in the bar with an extraordinarily drunk and (to me) very unattractive and maudlin Santiago (yes, I know, he has lost his "palomita" and is totally heartbroken, but somehow his behavior in that scene made me much less sympathetic to him than I had been up to then), and 3) scenes with an increasingly distraught Greicy, who winds up stabbing a guy named Botarga whom Sharon had asked to watch Greicy while she (Sharon) was out. I don't think we know what happened after she stabs him in the shoulder and takes his gun.

The episode ends on a rather bizarre scene. Rodrigo calls Mati and asks her to meet him, he has something important to tell her about her family. He apparently has told her to come to the cemetary, and when she gets there, she finds that he has had her brother's remains put in a rather nice tomb next to her mother. He tells her it's so she can cry over him and her mother and have them nearby. This is the Big Surprise that Rodrigo has been planning. Yup.

Bajo

A million thanks to you Juanita for the fine recap of Friday's fascinating episode. I had said something about doing it earlier in the week and then completely let down the side! I had evening commitments Wednesday and Thursday and guests over for a monthly potluck some dear friends and I do. It was my turn to host it. Then I couldn't resist watching my DVR'd Warriors game after everyone left. Golden State is on a path to surpass the all-time record of a championship team in the year following winning it all. They've won 14 straight with no losses this season. I have to confess I'm a big sports fan. This is an anomaly since no one in my family growing up had the slightest interest. I've sort of given up football, except for Stanford, but I love both basketball and baseball.

So I caught up with Thursday and Friday this morning. Bajo is "must see" TV for sure.

Jay is a complete and unmitigated jerk. I found it a bit puzzling that he tells her about how Matías died, that he wasn't responsible as if she hadn't been there when it happened. As I recall, someone else shot Matías after Jay forced him to do it as a sort of rite of initiation. If anyone else remembers better than I do, please chime in. I KNOW Jay isn't going to survive this novela.

I'm liking Sharon better lately. She loves Jay so did his bidding about telling Gracie that Rod was in love with Adela. But when she saw how it affected her, she didn't go on to say that they were an item like Jay wanted her to do.

Chabela is SO cute when she turns to María as her sounding board. María tries, but she can't really resist Chabela and likes her more and more. It was also interesting that they revealed the nada de nada sex life between María and Rodolfo. This certainly portends a happy ending with Jacob.

When telling Adela that she thought she was better than anyone else, he mentioned how she chose to be "initiated" into the gang by the method of being beaten up rather than having sex with the gang members. I got the distinct impression Jay had been VERY disappointed about that and had high hopes of jumping her bones back then.

Yes, Rodrigo is such a conundrum. Sometimes I like him a lot. His love for his brother is very touching. And I admired Luis for not taking a thing from the proceeds of the gang's crimes.

So, I guess we'll learn more, but how did all those bribes and big bucks Rod mentioned to Gacho procure Matías' remains? I don't think Adela is going to have the reaction he expects. Being the leader of the gang has given Rod a case of the big head. He thinks that because he wants her, he'll get her.

Hate, hate, hate Erick's entitled behavior in grilling Adela about her love life. She didn't put him in his place nearly as firmly as I'd have liked. The nerve of the guy asking if she'd moved on from Carlos because of the gang guy he heard on the tape recorder.

Wow, so what are we to suppose about Ramona's big reveal? Ramona obviously comes from a humble background. She talked about being the one who really raised Débora while her mother was out on the town. But it sort of sounded like D's mother was out and about like a wealthy person. Maybe she was not well off, but just had the same cold heart as her daughter and was just hanging out in cantinas.

Bajo. Very perceptive recap, Juanita, and great additions by novelera! I loved the way Adela overpowered the jerky Yei and got his knife from him. Also some hilarious scenes of Rudolfo trying (not) to succumb to the charms of one of the sexy ladies who hangs out at La Frontera bar. Of course Maria walks in at the most inopportune moment, just as despite all his efforts (um hum) Rudolfo is about to succumb--at least a kiss's worth. Oddly enough, in his creepy way, he does seem to trying to be faithful to Maria--the Chabela situation seems to have made him aware of how much he has to lose.

Bajo. And I still wish this telenovela would use Luis's situation to put in a plug for community colleges.

Bajo

Thanks very much, Novelera and SpanProf, for your kind remarks and very perceptive additions. Novelera, thanks especially for explaining what Jay said about how Adela was "initiated" into the gang. What he said went right by me (as all too much of the Spanish often does). And you're probably right about the significance for Jay of Adela's choice. Good point. And I agree, too, that Adela's not likely to react to Rodrigo's "surprise" the way he expects. He has lost all perspective when it comes to her.

SpanProf, thanks for reminding me about Adela's getting the better of Jay in their fight. I loved it that she was able to do that.

Bajo
Jacob owns the magazine & he is not informed about an article about abuse his own family in his own house. It makes him a complete fool.
I don't know if it makes Debora any worse that she abused her own tia. She belongs in the manicomio.
Hopefully, Juana will be rescued soon & Alan will suuuffffer!!!! the worst punishment.

Bajo

Variopinta, I'm with you 100%. It's hard to think of a suffering harsh enough for Alan. I know I posted once that he should be locked up with mean guys with a sexual fetish for old white guys.

Débora is nuts. She certainly has not behaved for one instant as if Ramona were related to her. Maybe she can't even remember it.

Carlos got the perfect revenge. The only thing that matters to Débora is what the Beverly Hills neighbors and shopping buddies think of her. I remember how her major reaction to Jacob leaving was not how she loved and would miss him but what people would think. So Carlos putting those magazines all over was SO good. And it worked because Stephanie and another woman came right over.

BAJO,

VERY SORRY FOR THE LATE ENTRY. I WAS UNABLE TO POST UNTIL NOW.

Thanks to Juanita and Novelera for many details that I had missed, and also
to SpanProf for excellent comments as usual.

As I see it, Jay was indirectly responsible for Laura's death. He hunted her down and alerted Rodrigo as to her whereabouts. Then Rodrigo forced her to flee from him
thus leading to her accident and death.

No doubt Rodrigo is a fascinating character. He has a good side as does Sharon and
Felicia. But Rod has a viciously brutal aspect to his character.

Erik is a brooding type. He looks as if he might explode any minute. He appears to do whatever he wants. Was it so urgent that the article appear in this month's issue?
It is great for our purposes of course, but it seems that he should have waited to get permission to publish from the boss.

I agree with those who say that Rod may not be pleased with Adela's response to the tomb. I was surprised though that she would take his hand even if it was for a moment
as he led her to the grave.

Eagerly awaiting Monday's episode...

She still has questions for him about her mother's death, so we will see how that goes.

Bajo. Thanks for the kind remarks, Floridia! I'm thinking that maybe Adela will do a follow-up article on the sexual abuse of undocumented immigrants and one or more of Alan's previous victims will come forward.

Bajo

SpanProf, I like your idea about one of Alan's victims coming forward. Another disgusting thing that happened with him was his saying that Juana's "debt" had increased because of Santiago's angry outburst at him. Of course, he doesn't plan for her debt to ever be paid off.

They moved with some speed after Carlos discovered Ramona's wounded hand. I sure wish they'd put a move on about getting Juana free. There'd still be plenty of plot left, and we'd be spared the sight of that disgusting, abusive jerk.

Bajo. Yep, novelera, Juana is sort of a sexual sharecropper, and there's a reason Alan likes it that she's illiterate. Maybe some of his previous victims could read and write and would see an Adela-written article.

Bajo

Alan gets along pretty well with Deborah and the ladies, but that one time Jacob walked into the room, his expression took a major downturn, could we call it fear, I'm waiting to see what that is all about.

and yeah, I don't like Santi's whiny voice either, although he has every right to whine because he has been carefully keeping distance from Juana to give her time to feel safe, and she shoves him out the door with no explanation.

not sure what cities do with bodies that are unclaimed, which is what happened to Matias, because Laura didn't want the expense, but that sure affected Adela who wanted to at least say good bye, remember the little shrine she made up in that park overlooking L.A. where she buried some things in remembrance, but anyway, how would you ever know if anything is buried under Rod's big slab at the cemetery, or if it was a body, who's, after the false Adela thingy.

and mister Jacob sure got the rug pulled out from under him, and the bricks haven't fallen on Susi yet, loved the way Carlos was there for Ramona. Carlos is a saint.

Bajo
I remember Ramona saying that one of Alan's servants disappeared, so there might not be any survivors. Dig up his basement.

BAJO

I am also frustrated with the Alan/Juana story and hope it
gets resolved soon.

Juana told Ramona what Alan was doing to her but asked
her to keep it a secret. At that time both had a victim mentality.
It should now be interesting to see what Ramona does to help
Juana now that she is herself is free. And, yes, Carlos has a
way of really helping people.

Bajo
Hi all, I'm only half in here, but I do love what I've seen of this novela. And I LOVE the recaps & comments. I have one concern and maybe Romy can add her expert opinion here: We are all thrilled that Carlos has a work permit. How does that jibe with not having a green card? If he can work legally, then he can be a legal resident? But more than that, do we assume that his employees are also indocumentados and if so, wouldn't that make Carlos especially vulnerable if someone wanted to make trouble for him. Just an overanxious mind here churning up possible issues. Thanks again recappers & commenters.
