Antes muerta que Lichita #53 Monday 12/7/15: Two weddings, two wheelchairs

There was actually a lot of rehash last night and I'm skipping it.

Alicia goes to the orphanage to take Mateo a present. They won't let her see him, but they will let her talk to the social worker, Venus. Venus sees her from afar and ducks out - later telling Roberto that Alicia would have recognized her and a whole scandal would have broken out. She reminds him he promised to come clean to everybody every soon and says Mateo's been much more volatile since he started having memories of his mother.

Mateo loves Alicia's present and is delighted she remembered him.

Luckily for Roberto, Marta loses it completely in the courtroom, screaming and saying that Mateo is her Angelito and should be with her. Roberto kindly says the trial should be postponed till she feels better. Turns out this is the third anniversary of her Angelito's death from cancer. Sobbing, she's folded into the car by her sweet but ineffectual husband. She sees Beto talking to his lawyer and bolts to run across the road and almost get run over but is saved by Beto. She starts confusing Beto with God and says, "I begged you to take me instead of him." Shiver.

Roberto and Alicia continue to sulk about their respective upcoming weddings, which due to clerical error are going to happen at the same church on the same day.

The API guys are pleased with Alex and say he's ahead in the voting and his wedding will push him over the top and they wish him "a marriage as good as your parents' is." Eye roll.

There is a big dinner at the mansion. Roberto tries to beg off, Luciana says, "I pretend like the others but I'm worried, I never see you." He shows up after all, with a ring, she makes him get down on his knee, he looks like he's really making an effort to think this could work out. Luciana shows it to everybody. Alicia: "It's almost as lovely as the one you stole from the Duke." Luciana crows about her dress, which is nicer than Angeline Jolie's. Bea says she and Elsa will go with Alicia next day to get her a dress.

Magos is pushing Ximena down the sidewalk in her wheelchair when the gangster supplier appears, offers more merchandise to sell, and gratuitously makes a point of telling Ximena "your mother is a pirate." Magos says she's out of the game. "Your loss," he says and leaves. Magos lies, saying, "he's a liar," but Ximena says: "You think I know nothing? I know your friend Gerry got fired for selling pirated goods and now it turns out it was your fault and he took the fall for you." She chants "I have a mother who's a pirate" all the way home.

The cafe is doing well financially. Elsa and Nacho think Magos will help them more once Ximena recuperates, but Magos says she was thinking of studying something, Alicia had offered to pay. Nacho thinks she'll take the money and skip the studying.

The first commercial for Oki Oki is enthusiastically approved by the client. Alicia and Roberto have their usual fight about who is doing what por interes - to advance careers etc.

After being kissy with Sandra at the office, Augusto goes to some hotel and has sex with Chuchette, who notices the lipstick on his collar and knows he didn't get it at home, but she doesn't care much. She seems to be spying for him a bit and says that Roberto had been pretending to be in love with Alicia. This interests him for some Machiavellian reason.

Bachelor and bachelorette parties are being organized. There will be dirty games.

Rafael tells Valeria they have a pretty serious offer for the house, they'll pack up and move to San Miguel. Don Augusto has his henchman call the Buenos Aires real estate agent, he wants to buy Rafael's mansion.

Lastly, after yet another shouting convo with Beto moaning about how he's giving up the love of his life, Gumaro later takes off in his wheelchair to visit Nacho and Elsa at their cafe. To be continued!

Tonight: poor Ez will get a lot of bridal shop to recap I think.

Great recap! Thanks, Jane.

My faves:

Ximena chanting " my mother is a pirate".
Wise Nacho not ready to trust Magos yet.
Anytime Augusto says "Stop!".
Marta losing it at the hearing,
Gumaro wanting to tell Alicia the truth about Roberto even if Roberto will not follow his advice to tell her himself. Will Gumaro also be honest abput himself?

Cannot wait til tonight!!!

Jane, thank you for your sensitive handling of what I thought was an extremely depressing episode.
“she starts confusing Beto with God and says, "I begged you to take me instead of him." Shiver”. Yes – that was my reaction too. Watching Marta fall apart in grief and despair was just incredibly painful. What a terrible, hollow “victory” for Roberto.

I was even perturbed when Ximena (whom I usually adore) “chants "I have a mother who's a pirate" all the way home”. Sigh.
Augusto with Bea, Sandra and Chuchette (and frankly, uncaring about any of them). What a sordid mess.

Not even my man Gumaro or sweet Daphne could pull me out of the doldrums.

Let’s hope for a little lightness tonight amidst the bridal gown shopping.

Diana

Thanks, Jane. Great title and recap.

As usual, Luciana was hilarious. So happy to get the engagement ring, she doesn’t even care about the "thing" Roberto said he’d reveal to her on their wedding day. Maybe she thinks it'll be a new car?

Ximena sees through Magos so well that I’m afraid she might see through Gumaro too.

Great recap of a tough episode.

I hope we see Marta get the help she needs. Just heart breaking to watch.

It felt out of character for Ximena to sing her mom's a pirate but maybe it represents a new phase in their relationship.

As Rob and Alicia were bickering again I just thought they really want to be making out right now.

Oh Gumaro I hope whatever you say to Alicia does some good but we know they all still end up at the church. I'm still hoping Kenny runs in to stop it and that makes all of them come to their senses.

I keep wondering how Roberto is going to mess up getting custody of his son now that it looks like Martha is no longer a threat . Is Venus going to be the one that will hold his feet to the fire if she finds out he has not told everybody the whole truth?

Thank you Jane---It's good to be back on track after the layover.

So Luciana really did get a ring---she seemed to be over the moon. So if Roberto has to marry Luciana, did he really need to buy her such a nice ring? I would have liked to have seen Luciana's face if the ring was a simple gold band.

It looked to me like with all of the people there, only Luciana was overjoyed. Am I wrong on that? I mean that it looked like a party for one.

Looked like another wake-up call for Magos---my mommy is a pirate, my mommy is a pirate!

I know that Mateo is Roberto's son but still I was feeling sorry for Marta last night. She needs more than medication at this point. I was wondering, if Roberto were give Marta occasional visitation rights--to allow her to see Mateo from time to time if that would help somewhat?

Ingrid Martz is hitting the ball out of the park with her role in this one. I guess that she will be over the moon in the bridal shop tonight. I can't wait.

must see tv.

Thanks so much, Jane. I'm glad you didn't dwell on Marta's breakdown. It was painful. And now I know why the writers didn't have Roberto use her previous mental health issues as a weapon with his lawyer. Seeing her fall apart was painful enough. It would have been even worse had Rob's lawyer provoked it by bringing her previous breakdown up in court.

Yes, let's hope Gumaro can do some good. Not sure how he can help if he's not going to come clean about everything. We'll see.

Surprised that Chuchette's relationship with Agusto is basically to be his spy in the agency.

I think the Chanclas affair, Magos' attitude during the Chanclas affair, the accident, and being stuck in the wheelchair the last month, has really affected Ximena's outlook on life. She's not the bright, cheery little girl we first met. She's way more cynical now, so I wasn't surprised she taunted Magos about being a pirate. Just one more things of many she has learned and disappointed her about Magos.

Gringo- It's a nice thought. But until Marta is stable mentally and emotionally, her spending time with Mateo, whom she sees as (dead) Angelito, would not be healthy.

Jarifa, I think the obstacle of Rob telling the whole truth will be his downfall in getting Mateo anytime soon. Of course, I'm still hoping the wedding is interrupted and it looks like Robs plan is to tell part of the truth on that day. At least tell Luci she has a step son. I feel like if Rob marries then he gets Mateo and if the wedding gets called off then he doesn't get Mateo. Darned if you do and darned if you don't.

Vivi, excellent point about life making Ximena more cynical. What a way to grow up!

Great recap Jane and really appreciate this.

Will you all and Marta's breakdown sad.

Vivi, unfortunately you are correct, Ximena has become cynical and a crying shame for that sweet little girl.

Roberto just keeps picking at the scab when he berates Alicia. He knows what she's worth but wants to tear her down and stomp on her and have her feel guilty. He prefers the cowering, naive nerd that he can lie to and take advantage of. He doesn't love Alicia. He's a coward.

Thanks for the recap Jane of what I thought was a depressing episode.

It was painful to see the downward spiral Marta descended throughout that court session.

I think whatever sinister plans Augusto had for Roberto (making him the fallout guy??) may be what prevents him from getting Mateo back?? Just speculating.

I am starting to skip scenes where Alicia and Roberto have their same old fight and then blame each other. Grow up!!
