Antes muerta que Lichita #52 Thursday 12/3/15 The Episode Where Grown-ups Make Bad Decisions and the Children Suffer

Don Augusto, Elias and Sandra discuss Alicia's work performance. Sandra thinks she is super "green" (newbie) when it comes to her position. Elias disagrees, he feels that Alicia is doing wonderfully as a creative director. He also wonders why Sandra and Augusto are referring to each other as "Ud" when they have known each other for 10 years...is it because he is in the room? Sandra believes Elias is singing praises where it does not belong. Augusto has the final say as always and he agrees with Elias more than Sandra this time. His reports show that clients are happy with Alicia.

Alicia gets a call from a very distraught Magos. Once Alicia calms her down she learns more about the accident. Not so bright Magos and Chanclas the Bozo walked away with mere scratches while Ximena is in a more dire state.

Roberto arrives at the public hospital near the accident. He found out the location because he happened to see Magos climb into the ambulance. The whole family eventually arrive at the hospital waiting to her news of Ximena while Chanclas the Bozo lurks in the background. The doctor informs the family that Ximena is out of critical condition but she has a fractured knee. She needs surgery immediately to enhance her chances of a successful recovery in regards to walking. Unfortunately they do not have a orthopedic surgeon at the hospital. Alicia wants the doctor to tell her the best place (public or private) with the best doctor to do Ximena's surgery. She does not care about the costs. As the doctor and Alicia leaves Roberto notices Chanclas making a run for it. They have a heart to heart and Beto lays everything out. He knows that Chanclas had sinister plans against the Guiterrez family with his accomplice Axilla. Beto also knows that he was never once interested in his own daughter...better yet someone like him does not deserve a family and he needs to disappear once and for all. Chanclas now understands Beto is the "Black Panther" his buddy was referring to earlier. Roberto channels his inner Bond and sternly warns Chanclas to disappear forever.

"I can channel scary face just as easily as my puppy dog one"

Sandra does not understand why Augusto has a sudden change of tune when it comes to Alicia. He did not even know her name a few weeks ago. Don Augusto uses one of his famous lines which is that he does not have to explain himself to anyone. Plus Alicia is starting to prove her worth in Iconika and moreso to him. Sandra mutters that he better not tell her Alicia too is some long lost daughter or something. He changes the topic to something that is more pleasant for her which is their life in the US. She wants to know whether they will reside in L.A, NYC or Miami.

Nacho scolds Magos for putting so much trust in Chanclas even though he warned her several times. Magos just wanted to have a happy family, with Chanclas caring for them. Elsa, who should not be the one to talk when she semi-trusted him to run her cart, tells Magos that a person like Chanclas would not know how to care for anyone. Magos questions Roberto on Chanclas whereabouts. He tells them he is probably gone for good. Not so bright Magos has the nerve to be miffed that he left without a word. Alicia returns, the papers are ready for Ximena's transfer. She wants to know how Roberto came to know all of this. For whatever reason, Nacho and Elsa lie and say he happened to be at the right place at the right time (I see that Beto is in the spirit of sharing his love of white lies to the Guiterrez family).

The Guiterrez family awaits at the Imperial Hospital where Ximena undergoes surgery. The doctor informs everyone the surgery went well. They had to place a fixation device around her knee for stabilization which will be removed at a later date. She will probably be able to walk again with rehab and lots of support in a month or two. The family asks Roberto if his brother can stop by and talk to Ximena about what it is like to be in a wheelchair. Magos and Alicia have a sisterly moment and comfort each other. Magos blames herself and cant help but think if something worse resulted.  At some point there is a PSA for  the benefits of having medical insurance which the Guiterez family do not have. After Nacho's accident and now Ximena they now think it is time to consider. It seems that life just comes up and pulls the rug from under you when you are least aware.

The next day everyone visits Ximena who seems a little subdued. Magos wants to explain what is going on to Ximena alone. Magos lets Ximena see the device on her leg and she wonders if she will be able to play like before. Magos assures her that will be, especially when she will be giving Ximena all the attention/support she needs. Ximena calls her out on that and says she has never paid attention to her in the past. Why will she do so now? She does not even really know her. Magos tries to deny this. Ximena goes even further telling Magos that she always told her that Chanclas was a no good liar but she would not listen. Magos does not act like the other moms that her teacher goes on about. She asks for Lichita and Magos walks out the door with the biggest wake-up call in her life (I hope so anyway).

Roberto meets with his lawyer who reports the case will appear in front of the the judge very soon. Roberto thinks they have the case in their bag but his lawyer indicates otherwise. There's a new development now that a witness is willing to testify against Roberto over his violent outbreak in jail. Roberto wonders who it could be (wait so your Bond/Sherlock/Hardy Brother vibes has gone out the window....who will be on  Axilla??). The lawyer wants to paint a picture that Roberto now is very different from the Roberto 5 years ago...his secure job and engagement to Luciana are selling points.

Lichita gives Ximena a pep talk. She tells Ximena that someone will always be with her during rehab whether it is her, Magos or her grandparents. Ximena actually smiles and says she believes her word (which seems to be a jab at Magos).

Magos reports Iconika to let them know what is going on. Fatima tells her not to worry, she already talked with Sandra and she does not need to worry about missing work. Magos thanks her but it is not necessary. She came to resign. Fatima understands that Ximena rehabilitation is the most important thing for her right now. Magos also mentions that Chanclas will not be returning to run Elsa's cart. Magos does not know what her mom will do with the cart but as soon as she finds out she will inform Fatima.
"You see this bored face. I am not listening"
Luciana plays hookie from work...well Don Augusto gave her permission to skip work while she plans her wedding. Rafael does not think her behavior is professional but Luciana rejects his reproaches. Dafne, who always finds a way to get under Luciana's skin, brings out a beautiful picture of Alex and Alicia on the front cover of Caras. Luciana gets jealous of her minuscule picture next to theirs.

Marta is super excited that there case will be heard in front of the judge soon. She has the date marked and highlighted on her cell. She talks as if they have won the case already which worries the hubby (He worries a lot but I have not seen him actually do anything to quench his worries like watch her take her meds or make appointments with the doc).

At work, everyone asks how they can help Alicia. By everyone, the only helpful people are Braulio, Brisa and Elias. Nestor the Pest wants to know EVERYTHING that happened including all the gory details. On the other hand, Chuchette gushes over Alicia and Alex appearance on Caras. She wants Alicia to let her know when she can contact her magazine friends for another interview about her wedding. Elias shuts both of them down for their indiscretion. Sandra walks in on the party and hopes that Alicia will not use niece's accident or the upcoming wedding as ways for her to slack on work (Umm you mean like Luciana). Alicia assures Sandra that will not be the case...however its time that once and for all they have a meeting with the creative directors so that they can be a little more cooperative. At the meeting with the unprofessional professionals (creative directors and Sandra), Alicia and Elias basically school/threaten the others and get them to work as a team to Sandra's dismay.  Alicia is happy that things turned out to their advantage  because she could not keep doing all the work herself without ending up in the hospital.

Roberto disrupts Elias and Alicia's victory celebration only to want to talk of her wedding. She repeats the question if he is ready to marry Luciana. They go back and forth until Bea disrupts their childlike behavior. After Roberto leaves, Bea tells Alicia she wants her to help with the wedding and also to be a little (aka) a lot more enthusiastic about the wedding (They might be fooling the public but Alicia and Alex do not do such a good job with appearances in front of their loved ones).

Alicia works late and questions if being a leader and being a boss are two separate entities.

A mixture of scenes, means a time jump in telenovela land. Alex and Alicia hold many interviews and photo sessions while gracing the cover of several magazines. The night security guard now has a day job selling items from Elsa's cart. Ximena is attended to by Magos and Alicia. Roberto meets with his lawyers and keeps up his visits with Nacho and Elsa. Alicia successfully holds meetings.....much has happened these three weeks.

"Throw the Ball..throw the ball"
Ximena is frustrated of being in the wheelchair all the time. She does not want to show up at Alicia's wedding with the wheelchair. They all try and cheer her up and put things in perspective. They remind her that she is lucky to be in this situation temporarily while others have to live this life forever. There are also other kids who are alone in the world without anyone to care for them. Ximena eventually understands the message that her grandparents and Alicia try to relay to her.

The court date day has arrived and both Gumaro and Beto are nervous. Gumaro cant say the right things and keeps mentioning Alicia's upcoming wedding.  Meanwhile Alicia shows up at the orphanage asking permission to see Mateo every so often. The director tells her that Mateo is a very special case and perhaps the social worker Venus could help explain things better. Alicia feels like she has heard this name before...while she ponders Venus appears in the background.

Will Venus and Alicia meet? Guess we shall find out next episode!

CeCe, thank you for the most wonderful recap. My favorite part was the screen cap of Néstor "Throw the ball . . throw the ball". Néstor is such an ass.

With the custody hearing pending, I am suddenly reminded of Venus' earlier directive that Roberto tell the truth to Icónika about who he really is. She told him more than once. I wonder if this will come back to bite him besides his violent episode at the jail at the hearing. Will someone step on the panther's tail? Who might step on the panther's tail? Hmmmmm . . .

Best parts last night: 1. Roberto running off El Chanclas especially when El Chanclas realizes that Roberto is the Black Panther/2.Everyone telling off Magos.

Quite the satisfying episode.

CeCe, I laughed out loud at your screen shot of Nestor. Terrific recap.

"I can channel scary face just as easily as my puppy dog one", "unprofessional professionals (creative directors and Sandra)" and "Bond/Sherlock/Hardy Brother vibes" were among my favorites.

I like the new proactive, assertive and protective Roberto. Now, I don't think I would be cowering in his presence (I simply don't view him as threatening), so I'm really curious as to know exactly what transpired in prison to give him that rep. I'm clad EC is gone. Adios - you will not be missed.

I'm thankful Ximena will be all right but sad that she has to go through the pain and rehab. As noted, if this doesn't turn Magos around, nothing will.

Jarifa, "ass" is the perfect word for Nestor. He is the meanest (and most annoying) character. Outside of Luciana of course.

Augusto finally realizes Alicia's talents. Not that he values them of course. She, as everyone else, is entirely expendable.

For an intelligent woman, Sandra's seemingly real belief she and Augusto will end up together is hard to fathom. Does she really believe he will leave her family for her?

I am concerned for Roberto and worried for Marta. There may be a possibility Mateo could remain where he is. That would be heartbreaking.

Diana

Cece- Brilliant job, with this painful episode. Thank you for finding and highlighting the humor in it.

Diana- "I am concerned for Roberto and worried for Marta." Yes. Seems that Rob has not shared Marta's mental illness info with his lawyer. It's too soon for Rob's happy ending with his son, so we know this hearing will not go well for him. Especially if this "mystery" witness from jail paints a picture of Rob being dangerous. But if Mateo goes home with Marta, I'm convinced her delusions and obsession over her "Angelito" will only intensify. In any case, NONE of this will be good for little Mateo.

In addition for Fatima and Guero, Venus has popped up in Yo No Creo en los Hombres as a corrupt, evil prison warden. So weird seeing these actors in totally different roles from one hour to the next.

So good CeCe appreciated every word and the Throw The Ball, Throw The Ball caption hilarious

"I can channel scary face just as easily as my puppy dog one" I too don't buy the menace in that face

Touche Ximena, Magos and she live together but that is where the relationship ends.

Alicia doesn't appear to have much enthusiasm, Bea is not stupid

Alicia has power given her by the paying satisfied clients and she outta keep using it for it may not last forever.

I was glad to see Magos put her daughter first, finally. I hope the fact that Ximena isn't immediately jumping on board to be mommy-daughter besties, won't result in Magos throwing in the towel. She's going to have to work, really WORK for the first time in her life, to earn the trust and respect of her daughter. That's going to take time.

I really like the addition of Rafael to the Toledo y Mondragon household. I like how he actually seems to like Dafne, spends time with her, praises her, and shows her affection. And she seems to like him too, and feels sorry for him for being so blind to how little his daughter loves and respects him.

Interesting that both Mateo and Ximena have been put in precarious positions by their own parents who supposedly love them.

Wonderful recap!!!

Vivi, I agree about Rafael. I really like him. I like his wife too. She was exceedingly nice to Elsa and Alicia before any sort of wedding talk. How they have such a mean spirited daughter I do not know. I can see spoiled but she is just disgusting. I am kinda hoping that Bea had an affair with Rafa and Dafne is his daughter (that's what pushed Bea to the religious cliff). That way when the truth comes out Rafa hasn't just lost one daughter but gained another. Plus, I think Dafne would benefit the most.

I'm putting on the record that I'm totally in love with Elias and he's mine! lol

I can't believe that after finding out that the crazy couple have a witness from jail that Rob hasn't told his lawyer about her mental issues. Is it too much to wish that maybe the husband does the right thing and says something? Also, wouldn't the judge want to meet Luci and see that she is there to support her fiance getting his son back? The whole thing seems off to me.

Loved when Ximena gave it to Magos. She deserved every word of it.

Thank you CeCe for your work on this recap.

Can't wait to see what develops tonight.

I think that it is too early for Roberto to gain custody of Mateo.

Bea is getting suspicious.

Right Roberto as the Black Panther? He doesn't look the least bit scary to me.

It was nice to see Dafne happy.

I hope that Magos saw the light or is it too early to believe?

must see tv
the gringo

Jarifa: Nestor is just beyond words right now...I do not know why he continues to surprise me with his ugly actions.

Diana: I also like the proactive Roberto way more than jealous Roberto. He could make a career out of teaching telenovela police on how to actually do their job. Sandra is such a hypocrite..she spews hate all over Alicia when Luciana gets away with the very things she thinks Alicia "will" do.

Vivi: In the end, it will be Mateo that suffers due to the actions of these so called adults. Sad sad. I hope they will let Alicia stop by every once in a while.

Tofie: Bea knows the true reasons of this arranged marriage. She just refuses to face reality and continue to live in that dream world of hers.

Carvivlie: Rafael seems like such a gentle soul. I too like Luciana's parents...but too bad genes took over and she inherited the worst of Don Augusto's personality.

Gringo: I think its too early to tell...with Magos she takes 2 steps forward one minute and 10 large steps backwards just as quickly. Time will tell.

No Lichita tonight. Seems there is a telethon.

CeCe, thanks for an excellent recap and thanks to our entire recap panel for another week of incisive analysis.

Due to a late medical appointment, I missed the first half of this. Wish I had seen Roberto convince Chanclas to leave Las Gutierrez alone. Chanclas was equal parts annoying and amusing, but I don't think I'll miss him. Now we'll see if Magos can take a close look at herself as a mother.

Happy to see Rafael providing positive feedback for Dafne. She needs as much as she can get and Alicia can't do it all.

Thanks, Cece. Fine recap, cute screenshots. Nestor's Throw the Ball..throw the ball - spot on of this dunce.

I too loved Ximena's straight talk to her mom. Hopefully, Magos will step up and prove she can put her daughter first.

Daphne and Rafael are my favorite pair right now. Finally a loving father figure for her.
