Pasión y Poder, Episode 26, Thursday, December 10, 2015: Never piss off the cook

Today's show is brought to you by the color BLUE.

The Foundation, the office where Julia goes to moon over Arturo
Regina pops in for a surprise visit to Julia, who quickly tucks away Arturo's letter in a desk drawer.

The Beach in Acapulco, where a maudlin chapter draws to a close
Justino holds Maribel's lifeless body in his arms and sobs.

The Foundation
Regina tells Julia that she truly loves David – she is not her father's puppet.  Julia seems moved by Regina's sincerity.  She tells the younger woman's it's hard to believe she's the daughter of Arturo and his.... um... that she's Arturo's daughter.   Regina reminds her very much of Arturo.

Outside Gómez Luna Associates
Francisco and Clara are chatting about their plans for the weekend in Acapulco when Justino calls with the tragic news about Maribel.  Francisco, mensch that he is, offers to do what needs to be done.

[Tertiary character dies: the Rules clearly stipulate that the Patio is excused from the funeral, right?]

The Foundation
Regina knows that David told his mother about them; she just wanted to meet Julia and offer her help with the children. But Julia says that's not possible.  If Eladio saw Regina there, it might provoke a tragedy.  "And what I'm telling you is the truth."

Regina looks shocked and hurt as Julia continues.  "It's great that you want to help homeless kids, but you need to do it somewhere else.  Please don't come here again."

MontserRat's Nest
Ignoring Aldo's warning that Consuelo might intercept her message, Montserrat texts Erick.  "I have something very important to tell you about your wife.  Call me."  And of course, Arturo's idiot child does exactly that.  It takes very little effort on Montserrat's part to persuade him to abandon his precarious position at Grupo Montenegro and come to her place so she can deliver that "delicate" information in person.

Aldo and Montserrat exchange high-fives in celebration of their treachery and Erick's stupidity.

The Foundation
Julia tries to shoo Regina out of her office, all the while assuring her that she hopes Regina and her son are happy and that things go better for them than they did for her and.... um... she wishes them both the best.

"But you think our relationship has no future?" Regina asks.  "The way things are between our families," answers Julia, "I really doubt it."

Maybe it's all those sentences Julia leaves hanging, those pronouns left unspoken, but Regina seems to sense that Julia is hiding something from her.  Now she begs her to tell her why Eladio hates Arturo.  Julia dances carefully around the question: they are rivals in business, Nina can't stand her...

Was Nina rude to Julia?  Julia says Nina is the person to ask. Once again, she asks Regina to leave.  This time, she does.

Alone, Julia pulls out Arturo's letter and frets about how complicated things are becoming.

Dueling Power Lunches in TORIM (The Only Restaurant in Mexico)
At one table, Arturo and Agustín are lunching with their guy, who is grateful they alerted him to the threat posed by the Gomez Luna project.  At another, Eladio works on a couple of fat cats, trying to break down their resistance and get them to support his project.  But he meets with firm, if polite, resistance.  His proffered bribes and not-so-veiled threats are rejected with smiles and a clinking of glasses.   Eladio smiles back and pretends to be a good loser [which the Patio well knows that he is not].

Francisco's apartment
Regina tells David that she has gone to see his mother and laments that:
Ella tampoco accepta que andemos.
(She doesn't accept our relationship either.)

TORIM – Fight!
Eladio spotting Arturo walking out with his guy – who is thanking him for tipping him off to the threat posed by the Gómez Luna project – and he jumps up and grabs hold of Arturo's coat.  He knew Arturo was behind this.  Arturo puts his face about two inches from Eladio's and warns him not to mess with him.  Eladio punches him in the mouth.  Arturo returns the favor.   Eladio calls off Callao, who is ready to flatten Arturo now.  Agustín puts a calming hand on Arturo's shoulder.

Eladio smiles.  "Did you ruin my project to get even for what  your son did?"

The two seem ready for another round, but a restaurant manager intervenes.  [Are the fat cats laying bets?]

Francisco's apartment
Regina gives David the details of her encounter with Julia.  She feels that deep down, Julia doesn't want them to be together.  Even if that is so, he assures her that nothing will change his feelings for Regina.

TORIM
Arturo accuses Eladio of having no values, of acting on instinct both in business and in his personal life.  Brushing aside Agustín, he gets in Eladio's face again and speaks very softly, but his words are calculated to infuriate his rival:

"You boast about having a wonderful wife, but you know very well that whatever you do, she's never going to love you."

Arturo punctuates his knife-like words by stabbing the air with his forefinger.  "And that's your big problem with me."

"But she's my wife," says Eladio coolly.  "Stay away from her or you'll be sorry."

"You've had years to get her to love you, but you've failed because you don't appreciate her," Arturo retorts.  "And the worst thing is what you are doing to your son."

Arturo finally lets Agustín lead him away, but not without a parting shot: he advises Eladio to work on his problems – all his problems.  "Start with your own problems," Eladio retorts.  He chuckles, though the feigned amusement fades as soon as Arturo turns away.

Julia's bedroom – And then he kissed me!
Gaby is upset after her angry exchange with Franco.  Julia tells her she was right to stand up to him.  Then Julia tells her niece about Regina's visit.  Even though she told David she would back him, she's not so sure anymore.  She's afraid of what Eladio might do to separate the couple.  She also tells Gaby that Arturo has agreed to get a DNA test done.  She'll finally have proof that David is really Eladio's son.

And isn't Julia afraid of the moment when she has to confront him?  No, Julia tells her – she almost wants it to happen.

"Why?  What happened, Aunt Julia?"

Dejé que Arturo me besara. (I let Arturo kiss me.)

Francisco's apartment – Ain't no mountain high enough...
David offers to go with Regina to talk to his mother.  She turns him down.  She doesn't want Julia to think she has set him against her.  She is aware of all the obstacles they have yet to face – imagine how Daniela, Erick and Nina will react – but she is committed to their love.  They kiss.  Cue their theme song...

Julia's bedroom – a little role reversal music, please...
"It was just a quick kiss," Julia tells Gaby, something she did without thinking.  Gaby is upset.  Julia is going to have to control herself!  She can't back her aunt on this one – what if Eladio finds out?

"Tell me the truth, Aunt Julia – do you want to separate David and Regina out of fear of Eladio, or because in your heart, you hope to get back together with Arturo?"

Julia shakes her head no.  How could Gaby say such a thing?

Grupo Montenegro, Arturo's office, where real men do eat quiche, damn it!
Agustín tells Arturo he was wrong to let Eladio provoke him.  Arturo admits he shouldn't have mentioned Julia – in fact, he almost reproached him for his doubting David's paternity.  But he's determined to give Julia his support; he's not going to let Eladio hurt her – or anyone else – anymore.  He is fed up with Eladio.

Julia's bedroom
Julia tells Gaby not to worry; she's aware she can never be with Arturo again.

Just then, Eladio marches into the room, orders Gaby to leave, and then grabs Julia by the arm.  "You're hurting me," she protests.

"And it will be worse if you don't tell me the truth – have you seen that bastard Arturo Montenegro?"

He releases her arm but his hand lingers menacingly around her throat.  She says no, she has not seen Arturo.

"You'd better not be lying."

"Why are you frightening me again?" she asks.  Eladio is on his way out of the room, but he turns around and approaches her, where she sits on the bed.  She cringes and pulls away as he looms over her:

"Is it fear you're feeling – or guilt?"

Reception desk, outside Eladio's office
Franco has heard about the Rumble in the Restaurant.  Now he tells the story to mouth-breathing Marintia and frets that it is probably going to make the construction debacle even worse.  She tells him to look on the bright side – at least Eladio can't blame the fall-out on Franco; then she offers to talk to her contacts in the press.  He tells her not to, it could make things worse.

Franco tells the mouth-breather that he has to patch things up with Gaby.  She doesn't look happy.

Casa Gómez Luna, where Eladio once again confirms that he is surrounded by fools and knaves
Eladio interrogates Julia's driver and discovers there was a brief period in which she was out of his sight – it was when he took the secretary to make some payments...  Eladio is furious.  He calls for Callao and the two head to the Foundation.

Casa Montenegro, Consuelo's bedroom, where delusional Beauty awaits the Beast
Regina gives Consuelo a pair of baby booties.  Consuelo is all smiles because the doctor has been to see her and all is well.  She asks Regina to be the baby's godmother.  She'd like to ask Miguel to be the godfather, but she can't – she doesn't want problems with Erick.

MontserRat's Nest
Erick and the 'Rat are starting to work up an appetite while simultaneously taking ours away.  All the while, he babbles about how his daddy is going to kill him if he finds out he's not in the office.   She suddenly pulls away and announces with well-rehearsed drama that she what she has to tell him about his wife is strong stuff:

Consuelo was eight years old when she was placed in an orphanage... after the police raided a brothel.

Predictably, Erick doesn't understand.  "Explain it to me, Montse."

Julia's office, the Foundation
Eladio interrogates Julia's elderly secretary.  "Are you sure there hasn't been a man here to see my wife?"  She says there has not – the only visitor was a young lady who was asking about making a donation.   He threatens to fire her if she's lying and then barks at her to get out.

Eladio snoops through Julia's papers and finds Arturo's letter.  He reads it, crumples it into a ball, his face looking ever more dangerous.  ¡Malditos!  Then he reconsiders.  He smooths out the page again, folds it, and puts it in his pocket.

MontserRat's Nest
Erick has read the pages from Consuelo's file at the orphanage that the 'Rat has so helpfully printed out, probably in large type.  This is all news to him.  (He seems to have forgotten all about Grupo Montenegro and his angry father.)  He lowers his bullish head and sets out to confront Consuelo.

The 'Rat gloats.

The Library, Casa Montenegro – How desperate was she?
Consuelo comes looking for Miguel and finds him sitting glumly on the sofa, holding the unopened gift he had offered her earlier in the day.  When she starts talking about her recent visit from the doctor, he gets up and walks away – after all, isn't she the one who told him to stay away?  Well he's going to respect her wishes.

That night in the Study in the Gómez Luna house, where slimy Franco manages to turn an invitation into an insult
Franco approaches David and invites him and his girlfriend to go out to dinner with him and Gaby.  David insists that he has no girlfriend.  Franco leaves.

Julia enters and hugs David.  He asks her what happened with Regina.

Downstairs, Casa Montenegro
Regina walks up to Consuelo.  She holds Miguel's hand and seems to be dragging him along behind her.  She wants to say goodbye because she's leaving for Querétaro early the following day.  Consuelo wishes her well, endures Regina's awkward attempt to hug her and Miguel, and then excuses herself.   Regina tries to comfort Miguel by reminding him that it was Erick, not Consuelo, who banished him.  He says he is the one who is going to keep his distance.  He stares off into the distance, his head tilted disturbingly to one side.  [Seriously, has the actor looked at himself in these scenes?  Has anyone?]

Gómez Luna Study – I told her to get out and stay out
Julia tells David that, given the problems between their families and all the resentment, she doesn't think Eladio will ever accept Regina.  David admits his father's disapproval would be painful, but what about hers?  Regina was very upset after her visit.  He asks again: what happened?

Julia says she told Regina not to come back to the Foundation.  She just doesn't want Eladio to find her there or anywhere around them.  David begs her to make an effort to get along with Regina.  She asks him to give her some time.  He walks out, obviously stung by her attitude, leaving her alone, weepy and frightened.

Kitchen, Montenegro house, where tonight, revenge is served hot
Petra gives Daniela a lesson in making tortillas for the quesadillas for tonight's dinner.  When Petra leaves to answer Nina's SamanthaCaterwaul, Daniela sabotages Petra's lovely salsa by throwing a bunch of hot green chili peppers into the blender.

Consuelo and Erick's bedroom: Worse to be a whore or to be raised by them?  Think, Erick.
Consuelo sit on the bed and smiles with pleasure when Erick arrives.  "The doctor just examined me and he told me the baby is perfect!"  Approaching her like an implacable enemy tank, Erick says nothing.  Then he shoves her down on the bed and screams:  "How long were you going to keep making a fool of me?  Why didn't you tell me that before the orphanage, you lived in a brothel?"

Nina and Arturo's bedroom – That woman!
Nina is busy snooping through folders in the desk, trying to find out what "that woman" wants with her husband.  Regina comes in with a question for her mother, something she wanted to ask her before she leaves for Querétaro in the mornng: "Have you ever had an argument with Mrs. Gómez Luna?"

"Don't talk to me about that woman," says Nina.  "She's the worst!  And of course, we've argued – I won't let anyone treat me rudely.  But why do you ask?"

Regina says that now that she's working with David, she wants to know something about his family.  Arturo walks in at that moment, and Nina tells her to ask him about the Gómez Luna clan. Regina notices Arturo's bruised mouth, but he doesn't want to talk about it.  He says that Eladio may be an imbecile, but that doesn't mean the rest of the family is like him.  Even so, he cautions her to stay away from David.  He had a problem with Eladio today and he doesn't want him to do anything to her.

Arturo denies, however, that his bruises have anything to do with Eladio.  He fell, he says.

Regina says her goodbyes to her parents and leaves the room.  Now Nina turns to Arturo and asks what really happened with Gómez Luna.  "Nothing," he says, repeating his lie.  "I fell."

Consuelo and Erick's bedroom
Erick is pushes Consuelo around and grabbing at her roughly while she tries to fend him off.  There's no denying it – he saw her orphanage file himself.  She's been making a fool of him for years!  He wants a divorce!

Around the table in the Montenegro dining room: I'm acting out, guys.  React already.
Daniela places her special quesadillas on the table.  "I hope you like them," she says to her parents.

Arturo isn't paying attention.  Nina says he's distracted because of another confrontation with Gómez Luna.  He says it's Eladio who was the big loser this time – Arturo managed to get the construction of his building stopped. Then he should be celebrating, says Daniela.  He says that's true, but he can't help thinking of other people who are also suffering from the Gómez Luna's misfortune and it troubles him.  "Who are these other people you're so concerned about?" Nina asks.

Julia's bedroom – Putting a face to "collateral damage"

Julia sits on her bed and tries to read.  Eladio storms in and rips the book out of Julia's hands.  "You cheated on me, didn't you?"  He pulls Arturo's letter out of his pocket and brandishes it in her face.  "You've been making a fool out of me and you're going to regret it!"

Gracias, NovelaMaven. Some great ones:

Tertiary character dies: the Rules clearly stipulate that the Patio is excused from the funeral, right?

Yes, indeed. I think Maribel's death will also escalate the conflicts between Gisela and Clara.

Arturo's idiot child does exactly that. It takes very little effort on Montserrat's part to persuade him to abandon his precarious position at Grupo Montenegro and come to her place so she can deliver that "delicate" information in person.

It never seems to occur to this fool that this could bring down the wrath of both Eladio and Arturo. Nor has this occurred to the Rat. Both of them could end up where they don't want to be.

Consuelo and Erick's bedroom: Worse to be a whore or to be raised by them? Think, Erick. He doesn't.

Poor Consuelo is the junior Julia surrounded by a few reasonable people and other nasties. She would be better off with a divorce. Arturo would take care of her and the baby. She could have a nice apartment and Clara can move in with her and upgrade her lifestyle. Miguel can wait a reasonable amount of time and pursue her (after he moves out, too). Regina will be a loving aunt.

And Erick can go after the Rat, get himself killed by Eladio, and we'll all be happier.

Around the table in the Montenegro dining room: I'm acting out, guys. React already. Daniela places her special quesadillas on the table. "I hope you like them," she says to her parents.

Of course, this is meant to get back at both Arturo and Petra. But it could get a scolding from Nina, too, because a case of acid reflux this will give Arturo cancels any possibility of her being able to seduce him into getting lenient with Daniela.

NovelaMaven: What a joy your recap was. Beautifully written. We are so privileged that you have graced us with another incredible recap.

"The Beach in Acapulco, where a maudlin chapter draws to a close", "[Tertiary character dies: the Rules clearly stipulate that the Patio is excused from the funeral, right?", "Arturo's idiot child" and "He stares off into the distance, his head tilted disturbingly to one side. [Seriously, has the actor looked at himself in these scenes? Has anyone?]" were among many favorites.

For a moment, I felt guilty as I felt very little when Maribel succumbed. Color me insensitive but perhaps only a tad bit (?)

It is becoming more difficult to discern who the vilest character is. Eladio was an early front runner but Erick and Montse are gaining quickly. Franco is in the minor leagues. He is a spying ferret (no offense to the actual animals) who uses and abuses but will always be a lackey, never a leader.

What terrible price will Julia pay for her "betrayal"? Further, when will she finally realize she must destroy any and all written correspondence from Arturo as soon as she reads it?? I'm cringing at what Julia will need to endure tonight.

Speaking of...I might suspect Nina is a woman who will not take kindly to the fact her husband has been in love with someone. Julia. For all these years.

Poor Consuelo. I want Miguel to swoop in and carry her away. Quickly.

Thank you NovelaMaven!

Diana

Thank you, NovelaMaven! Love your headings and the entire recap is such an informative delight! I have to chuckle at aldo and Montserrat celebrating their treachery and Erick's stupidity. Doesn't the latter render that a hollow victory? What a breathtakingly stupid numbskull. So now he's going to bully Consuelo over a past she had nothing to do with and I would say that she's triumphed over except she's married to a knuckle-dragging Cretan. What are her prospects for the future? Hopefully not that creepy Miguel! Yikes!

He stares off into the distance, his head tilted disturbingly to one side. [Seriously, has the actor looked at himself in these scenes? Has anyone?]

So, pardon me if this was mentioned in the discussion of the earlier shows I missed but which of these love stories is supposed to be the appealing one? A couple of middle aged folk trying to fan the dying embers of a 25 year dead relationship; a sweet but deluded young woman who has survived depravation and sought refuge in a loveless marriage with a dimwit husband; said dimwit and a whore who is also boinking his father's arch enemy whom he sided with to give said whore more riches; a brilliant but reclusive and undiagnosed young man whose own sister in law is the object of his mental masturbation or the young couple in which the guy has already slept with the sister?

Can't they give us less incestuously entangled love stories? Oh well. One is free to watch or not.

But the recaps are exquisite, finely crafted and I feel like I'm taking a Spanish and English composition course all at the same time PLUS a rockin' Patio of cool people!

Thank you, NovelaMaven!

Like it, love it NovelaMaven the organization awesome

"Franco tells the mouth-breather"

Lots of stupid stuff in this show but a pissing contest over a girl in a restaurant in suits, takes it.

It was sweet when Regina was leaving and went and gave her mother a kiss. See Nina likes her daughter.

Seemed to me Daniela was kinda getting into the kitchen thing right up till she overdid the number of chilies necessary

Miguel is killing me. Talking Heads "Once In a Lifetime" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98AJUj-qxHI

Thanks so much, NovelMaven. I love your sly humor.

Someone should just put Eladio and Arturo in a boxing ring, and let them go at it until one or both of them pass out. I'm sure all the other businessmen are amused by this.

Erick showed his true ugly self to Connie. Will she finally realize that this marriage can't and shouldn't be saved?

Loving Regina's pseudo tuxedo outfit. Looks cute and comfortable.

Julia sure did a 180 on Regina and David. Glad they've decided to soldier on, and get the heck back to Queretaro and away from these crazy people.

Thank you NovelaMaven. I love starting the day with a NovelaMaven recap. There were many great lines and I absolutely loved the title -- it's so true. You never piss off the cook- that's how you get spit in your food.

I was actually shocked I tell you to find out that Daniela knows how to cook something. I've always seen her as the kind of person that can't even boil water. Also, surprised that a fancy family like the Montenegro's would eat quesadillas instead of something like Filet Mignon. Anyway, it should be fun tonight when Artie and Nina take a bite out of the spicy quesadillas. :)

Poor Consuelo. Yes, hopefully, this will be her wake up call that Erick will never change and that's he's a jerk. A divorce doesn't sound so bad- she'd still be able to get child support from him. Plus, I'm sure Artie would let her continue living at the house or set up a place for her to live since she is carrying his grandchild.

Artie should have sent a message in one of those things that self destructs after it is heard/read. Not looking forward to what Eladio does tonight now that he has proof that Julia and Artie have seen each other.

Many thanks NM!

I swear, if I was Julia, the minute Eladio grabbed my arm in that ever so sweet manner he had for the past 20 years, I would have grabbed a suitcase when he walked out, packed and said adios. Her son would be 100% behind her.

Seeing those two idiots go all gorilla in the restaurant was absolutely absurd. I don't care who the actors are, the characters are acting like nothing more than two overgrown teenagers in heat. I keep waiting for the West Side Story rumble music to break out.

So...who steps in to save Consuelo. My guess is the Queen Bee will be all scandalized and want Connie gone to save their precious reputation. What Artie does will either make him dead to me and win me over a few baby steps in his direction.

NovelaMaven...You have a way about you. I enjoyed your witty view of the unfolding drama. My infected sinuses and I went to bed early last night,so I especially appreciated your retelling. I am going to YouTube immediately to listen to the fabulous Ronnettes sing Julie's new theme song "And Then He Kissed Me."

P.s. I am not going to the funeral. I still have no idea why we had to watch this character suffer and die.

Connie would not be able to stay at the house; Nina would see to that.

Erick is stupid if he thinks an 8 year old was willingly tricking in the ho'house. He just wants an excuse to kick out one "ho" for another.

Arturo mentioned gastritis the night he punched out Erick, so Dani's hot sauce will make him have a recurrence.

Anon207, you've got it there.

We don't know whether Consuelo was forced into anything sexual in the brothel. Since she does not seem traumatized, maybe not. Maybe her mother and/or the other women protected her. Either way, Erick is another Eladio who will execute her without a hearing. Nina will insist on throwing her out, which should help blow the lid of all the nasty crap that went on behind Arturo's back.

Forgot about poor Artie's tummy. Watch, she'll land him in the hospital.

Erick would be scandalized only because his mother has raised her spawn that listen to her to be all about appearances. You can be as loathsome as you want, just don't get caught and money means everything. Poor Connie was poor, GASP!, and now it appears has a history that would be tabloid fodder though she had nothing to do with it. By Nina's law, she has to go, and Erick is only mouthing what he knows will be his mother's attitude as well.

Wonder what her reaction would be if he brought the Ratt home to dinner. I could see a bad fashion showdown between Ratt and Nina. And the Ratt wouldn't put up with Nina. You know, that might actually be fun to watch. We could use some popcorn and margarita moments.

And I agree--not attending the Maribel weep fest. But good lord, the writers better make it clear why we went through this to begin with.

Daisynjay

The title should have been "Hoors and Dimwits."

Thank you NovelaMaven for an eloquent, sharp-witted and detailed recap! The subheadings and side notes were particularly delicious I must say. I’ve even saved some for later degustation. :)

-- “Tertiary character dies: the Rules clearly stipulate that the Patio is excused from the funeral, right?” = Right! I caught a few glimpses and those scenes were indeed fastforward-worthy! This velorio promised to be as dull, whingy and weepy as the lady in the casket.

-- I have to say I’m growing fonder of Francisco. I feel he’s the younger, blonde, baby-faced version of Agustín and I’m glad that now that Maribel is gone I don’t have to fastforward through his scenes as much.

-- Julia chased away Regina so unceremoniously, it was really unkind of her. She could have explained things to the young lady less abruptly. But no, Julia has no time for her son’s squeeze because she is not prepared to risk provoking Eladio’s wrath unless she gets to cry in Arturo’s arms and give him awkward stretched-lip smoochies.

-- Emboldened by the wooden beso he shared with ‘the love of his life’, randy boy Arturo could not waaaaaait to rub Julia’s confession in Eladio’s face at TORIM (*giggle, giggle) in front of all the big cats! Didn’t she tell him those things in confidence? Wasn’t he worried about her wellbeing just a few scenes ago? Is Erick’s ADD hereditary?
(to be continued)

(Cont.)

-- "Tell me the truth, Aunt Julia – do you want to separate David and Regina out of fear of Eladio, or because in your heart, you hope to get back together with Arturo?" - Atta girl Gabi! THAT is the 700 million peso question! Keep up the good work and you’ll earn a spot on the podium with Rev Auggie.

-- "Is it fear you're feeling, or guilt?" - Well, six of one and half a dozen of the other... And to think she’s having to endure all this for the sake of a furtive encounter with meh-tastic Arturo... Meh!

-- “Predictably, Erick doesn't understand.  ‘Explain it to me, Montse.’”: Break out the crayons, RatHo, and get ready for a long session of doodles and ‘dibujitos’! Why Consuelo is still so attached to the Montenegro Idiot Child, when the Montenegro Creepy Child is lurking in the wings, waiting to jump in and be the model (albeit stalker-ish) husband and father?

-- “[Seriously, has the actor looked at himself in these scenes?  Has anyone?]”: My sentiment, exactly! I think the director told the Miguel actor “give me broody” and left to have a smoke out back.

-- Thank Goodness for Petra/Samantha and Daniela! Their shenanigans lighten the dark mood, the one-dimensional writing and the dumb directing.

-- “¡Malditos!”- When Bad Boy Eladio found the letter I thought his head was gonna explode. Even during their scene at TORIM, I kept willing Arturo to stop talking! You’re poking the monster and Julia will be the one picking up the tab, you numpty! The more Eladio smiled, the more I knew there’ll be hell to pay. Yep, that smelly glop is approaching the fan, slowly but surely... Everybody head for cover!

Unfortunately, Eladio doesn't need this to go off on Julia. He'll keep doing that until she says she loves him, even if she is only faking it.

He will try to lock her up again. She needs a burner phone and Snapchat.

-- A quote from the capítulo --

“No tienes valores, Gómez Luna! Actúas por instinto, sin razonar, tanto en los negocios como en tu vida personal. [...] Presumes tener a tu lado una gran mujer pero bien sabes que a pesar de tus esfuerzos, ella NUNCA ta va a amar y ESE es tu gran problema conmigo! ESE es el problema!”

Arturo to Eladio during their TORIM confrontation: “You have no principles, Gómez Luna! You act on instinct, without thinking, both in business and in your personal life. You boast about having a great woman by your side but you know full well that despite all your efforts she will NEVER love you and THAT is your big problem with me! THAT is the problem!” (I know, I know... It has more ‘oomph’ in Spanish!)

Actuar = to act, to play a role or to perform, depending on the context.

Valores = in this context, its means principals / values but “valor” can also mean courage / bravery, validity or (economic) value.

Razonar = to think, to reason.

Los negocios = business. The singular form “negocio” means business transaction / deal or place of business like a store or a company.

Presumir = to show off, to brag. Can also mean to suppose or to presume.

A pesar de = in spite of.

Esfuerzo = effort or endeavor or sacrifice, depending on the context.

Thanks for your wonderful recap NovelaMaven. Your descriptions are so spot on - Erick as the idiot child and the director "guiding" Miguel's performance. Perhaps later the twist will be that Miguel is crazy but based on the characters we have currently, as Lila superbly noted, all most all of them as hot messes. Don't make Miguel insane, make him normal or at least not creep.

Julia really ticked me off last night. I understand she is fearful but it seems her reasoning skills are gone. Gaby, who is another lone voice of reason similar to the man I want as her novio/husband Agustin, summed up what irked me: "do you want to separate David and Regina out of fear of Eladio, or because in your heart, you hope to get back together with Arturo?"

UA, excellent call on Dani "poisoning" someone. I hope she gets called out.

Diana, sadly our worst fears about Connie seem to be manifesting. Unfortunately for her, getting divorced from this imbecile will be the best thing for her. But her desire for "family" (I have to sure quotes b/c her spouse's clan is crazy) may continue to blind her as Vivi and Mauricio have pointed out.

Daisynjay, love your scenario of a Ratt/Nina face-off. That would be great fun.

tofie, I think Nina was nice to Regina because Art was there.

Vivi, yes David and Regina need to get as far away from their families as possible. If Julia was their ally, they should be running for the hills now.

NovMav-Congratulations! I'm in awe. Please bring back "Blue" anytime. Wonderful beginning with the ending of Maribel. Regrettably the actress will probably be offered other roles where she is just there to cry and die.

There was so much stupidity and idiocy in this episode, all told with great flare. Even Regina was acting dumb--go visit Julia unannounced?? QTH? Try to get both Connie and M-icky in a group hug?? QTH? She's only going to Queretaro for a couple of days, no?

I guess Erick, forgets a lot of important things, besides family business betrayals. Like noticing anything unusual on his wedding night maybe? Please, she was only a little girl at the time of the raid--does he think she was passed around to clients? Or is he only angry because she never shared that information with him. The man doth protest too loudly. I think he's just looking for an excuse to unload poor pregnant Connie. He just doesn't know what he's trading her in for. Haha, the joke will be on him. OTOH, there will be some good catfights between Nina and MontserRAT if she moves in (but of course Eladio will kill Erick before that happens).

It's farfetched, but unless Julia thinks this thing through, she may on impulse, get the DNA test altered herself just to keep David and Regina apart. Oh the complications that would arise out of that move is lovely to speculate. But she'd better hurry. I don't think Regina and David will be able to wait much longer to "be together."

Yes, dinner did look a little lean. Maybe the filet mignon was the 2nd course?

NovelaMaven---You're such a joy to read. The whole story is there along with some witty humor.

Montserrat's apartment is now known as the Rat's Nest

And then we have Consuelo's bedroom where the delusional beauty awaits the beast.

The gringo's side note---Most everyone thinks that Miguel is a little or maybe more than a little creepy and I pretty much agree. I mean that the way he lusts after Montse is, or up until last night seemed to be getting out of control. But if creepy guy ever married her, my bet is that he would treat her 200% better than cave man Erick ever did.

Another gringo note---Why is it that when I'm insensitive towards Nina, I get beat up for it but when Maribel dies, I'm the only one who cares. Did someone spike the margaritas on the patio with an unknown substance or has a new yet undiscovered virus invaded the area and has settled in?

Looks like Julia is in for some rough treatment tonight. How will the beautiful goddess protect herself from Eladio's rage?

must see tv
the gringo

I don't think Regina would do that.

However, I see catfights in this series' future:

Consuelo vs. Monserrat
Monserrat vs. Nina
Regina vs. Daniela
Julia vs. Nina (eventually)

Anita I thought Julia was gonna blurt out Regina and David were brother and sister to keep them apart, she had krazy eyes rolling around in her head. Hope Regina knows you cannot reason with krazy and not let it bother her pretty little head.

Surely Regina can see Miguel is a bit strange and the last thing she should do is offer any encouragement to remain in Connie's orbit. I expect tonight we'll see him walking around with the star box mumbling to himself, still.

Wonder how much Connie will beg Erick and what a shock, just that aftenoon she was so happy things were right between she and the incredible sulk.

Thanks, NovelaMaven. My favorites:

Maybe it's all those sentences Julia leaves hanging, those pronouns left unspoken, but Regina seems to sense that Julia is hiding something from her.

Casa Montenegro, Consuelo's bedroom, where delusional Beauty awaits the Beast

Erick and the 'Rat are starting to work up an appetite while simultaneously taking ours away.

I'm predicting redemption for Dani. She was funny with Petra, and putting hot peppers in the sauce is a kid prank. It'll do damage to Art's gastritis, but I doubt she's trying for that, she's just not thinking like an adult. Hopefully, Art will eat slowly and stop after the first mouthful.

Eladio moved his hand up Julia's thigh very menacingly before he left to spy at her office. I hope she thought to put a vase or baseball bat in her bedroom to clunk him on the head if he gets crazier.

Consuelo better not beg Erick for forgiveness, or I'm through with her.

ITA Art is not good at keeping secrets. He has laid a nice trail for Regina, Miguel, and now Eladio to get the scoop on Julia.

Gringo:

"Why is it that when I'm insensitive towards Nina, I get beat up for it but when Maribel dies, I'm the only one who cares. Did someone spike the margaritas on the patio with an unknown substance or has a new yet undiscovered virus invaded the area and has settled in?"

Interesting. You know, I've been wondering about that myself. I think there are a couple of reasons why most of us are unmoved by Maribel's death:

For one thing, we were forced into anticipatory grieving for her before we even knew her. I know I felt kind of manipulated by the writers.

For another, there's no doubt that we influence each other around here. It's not quite group think, but a consensus tends to develop with a shorthand way of referring to the characters and the situations. So maybe if we weren't watching from the Patio, we'd feel differently about Maribel and Miguel and other things.

By the way, I agree about Miguel vs Erick. For all Miguel's social awkwardness verging on pathology, Consuelo would do a lot better with him than with Erick. [On the other hand, it might be hard to imagine a worse partner than Erick :)]

Amazing comments today, guys! Thanks to everybody for stopping by – and I really appreciate the kind words.

Urban, I like the way you put this:
"Poor Consuelo is the junior Julia surrounded by a few reasonable people and other nasties. She would be better off with a divorce."
Yes! If only she could hear us yelling at her through the TV (or computer) screen!

While it makes sense that Arturo would be affected by the hot pepper attack, I wonder if this might be heading the way many cliched food attacks go, with an innocent person eating the "poison" and the intended victim unscathed: Montenegros get into a big argument, storm away from the table, and Petra picks up a quesadilla and takes a big bite -- YOWZA!

Diana,
"It is becoming more difficult to discern who the vilest character is. Eladio was an early front runner but Erick and Montse are gaining quickly. Franco is in the minor leagues. He is a spying ferret (no offense to the actual animals) who uses and abuses but will always be a lackey, never a leader."
Hahaha! You're right – we need a spreadsheet to keep score. (No, no, just kidding – please, nobody start a spreadsheet of villainy, okay?)

Lila, I love your brilliant encapsulation of the romantic relationships on this show. And then your plaintive question that isn't really a question:
"Can't they give us less incestuously entangled love stories?"
I suppose they could (and they often do), but they are going moody, melancholy and grown-up here. Whether they're succeeding is another story... :)

tofie:
"Seemed to me Daniela was kinda getting into the kitchen thing right up till she overdid the number of chilies necessary"
Oh yes, absolutely! It was the first time Daniela actually seemed engaged. I also suspected she was starting to feel a bit of grudging respect for Petra, who is showing some mad skills.

Vivi, I liked Regina's faux tux outfit too – a nice change from her previous, obviously uncomfortable dress. Is it too soon to be happen about Querétara? I mean, they haven't actually left yet...

Mauricio:
"Artie should have sent a message in one of those things that self destructs after it is heard/read."
Jejejeje! Great suggestion! These people are terrible at being sneaky... well, except for Eladio, and maybe Franco, though he still has his training wheels on.

Daisynjay, I agree that Arturo's reaction will help us define his up to now rather murky moral fibre for us. West Side Story? Hah!

Susanlynn, do you think we're the only ones on the Patio who remember the Ronettes? :-)

Anon207 and Urban, of course Nina will WANT to kick Consuelo out, but will she be powerful enough to do so?

Nandicta, I so loved your take on Julia's surprisingly abrupt treatment of Regina and the way Arturo outed Eladio at TORIM, especially your rhetorical question ("Is ADD hereditary?") Frankly, I don't know how you managed to stay away from the Patio all this time.

Karen,
"Julia really ticked me off last night. I understand she is fearful but it seems her reasoning skills are gone."
yeah, it sure looked that way. You have to hand it to SG, though – she's doing a fabulous job with this messed-up Julia of hers.

Anita,
"Please, she [Consuelo] was only a little girl at the time of the raid--does he [Erick] think she was passed around to clients?"
Oh yes! I was so puzzled by his imbecilic reaction, that I rewound the video and listened again to make sure they really said "ocho" and not, I don't know, 15.

ooh, interesting suggestion about Julia altering the DNA results herself just to keep Romeo and Juliet apart. Could we write a group telenovela or what? :)

Niecie, I would have scoffed at redemption for Daniela, but after last night, it doesn't seem so farfetched. I suspect, though, that she has plenty of dirty tricks left in her pocket. After all, we've got a hundred or so episodes yet to be filled.

And yeah, Arturo is the worst yenta in the crowd. He really can't keep his mouth shut, can he?

Ah, the Ronettes! Are they the same as The Crystals? That's who I remember doing "And Then He Kissed Me."

Proud to remember both! Ahhhhh! Damned good music!

Computer has been down all day so I just now got a chance to enjoy NovelaMaven's classy recap. Wow, TORIM sounds very Old Testament somehow. And certainly two high-testosterone males slugging it out over a "hembra" fits right in. Some of those OT books are hair-raising, I must say.

Lots of gems:
Ain't no mountain high enough
mouth-breathin Marintia
starting to work up an appetite while taking ours away
{seriously has the actor looked at himself in these scenes. Has anyone?] Have to say right here I wish they could replace this guy with somebody else. I cringe every time Consuelo or Regina embrace him. He is Just. So. Creepy. Can't imagine anyone "being better off with him."

And agree with Mauricio, it simply isn't believable that the familia Montegnegro would dine on a couple of quesadillas. One of the tropes is that these hoity-toity rich folks never eat common food. And another trope is that when someone high society falls in love with someone low society, they seal their affection with some street food which High Society finds delicioso. Maybe we've already had that number with Clara and Francisco.

The sad little death serves a purpose I guess in contrasting the devoted love between the couple and the toxic relationships between the two rich couples. Well, three, if you throw in the hapless Consuelo and bull-headed ERick to the mix. And that's another trope. Poor folks love generously and sacrificially. Rich folks no.

Well, NovelaMaven, another clever and elegant recap. Always a treat. Muchas gracias.

Perhaps Arturo having Dani work with Petra wasn't such a bad idea after all, if she seems to be gaining a grudging respect for Petra.

Hmmm...speaking of music, the only thing I like about this show, other than the splendid recaps, is the theme song of Julia and Arturo. Sounds somewhat Brasilian. Does anybody know the name and singer?

Well, the reason Petra needs the extra help is because they need to hire a new cook, so perhaps when the real cook is hired, the family will be back to eating filet mignon?

Vivi, maybe with a new cook, the family WILL get back to their filet mignon, but probably not at the evening meal, at least in my (admittedly limited) experience. The afternoon meal or "comida" is where all the action is. "La cena" is typically much lighter fare and somewhat informal, so it's not such a stretch to imagine the snooty Montenegro clan enjoying quesadillas. But then, I suppose there are plenty of fancy, expensive possibilities for conspicuous consumption in the evening.

Lila, I'm pretty sure the Ronettes and the Crystals are two different groups, but I doubt if I could tell them apart. But the music – oh yes!

JudyB, I wish I could help you out with that song pero lo siento, ni idea. Maybe someone else knows...

"The sad little death serves a purpose I guess in contrasting the devoted love between the couple and the toxic relationships between the two rich couples."
Sigh. Yes. Beautifully expressed (as usual)

I thought the same thing about TORIM as I was writing it – it reminds us of Hebrew because of the -im plural suffix (as you probably know) in words like seraphim and cherubim.

Thanks for another masterful recap, NovelaMaven. Super. I love your work (but you already knew that.)

I'm amazed (appalled?) at how some of you, with so little supporting evidence, are able to predict how Nina will react to learning of Coni's early life. Are purple lips and too tight dresses automatically indicators of a flawed soul? Put her out on the street? I doubt that. I expect that she may even be supportive.

I'm glad to see my early fondness for Dani was not entirely misplaced. I think that she and Petra are getting along swimmingly. What I'd like to see is for everyone to smack their lips over how tasty her well-seasoned quesadillas are.

Actually, I don't think Warren Buffet or Oprah Winfrey eat filet mignon or lobster every night. The trope that all high society people do is repeated in YNCELH in the early episode when the Moraleses dine at the Bustamantes' home. Alma even made a condescending remark about "If you don't like what we eat I'll order something else."

But I don't believe this for a minute.

What I would think is that having a cook means more balanced meals.

Yes, Carlos, I do know, but it's so very nice to hear you say it. (I'm a bit of an acquired taste around here, I suspect.) Thank you.

And it's true that Nina hasn't actually killed anyone. Yet. [snort]

Ha, Carlos, you sly fox, stirring the pot again, are you, amigo?..Susanlynn, applying her purple lipstick

Lila...I was mistaken , and you are correct that The Crystals sang "And Then He Kissed Me".. Not the Ronettes!

So many great comments! How fun to be hanging out in the Patio! :)

-- UA: I agree that Junior Julia (Consuelo) should get a divorce already.; however, I can’t go along with your wish to do away with Erick quite so quickly. I know that hardly anyone in the Patio likes him but Erick can’t die! The entertainment value of this confused TN will tank. I’ve grown accustomed and rather fond of those chimpanzee faces he delights us with every episode.

-- Diana: “For a moment, I felt guilty as I felt very little when Maribel succumbed. Color me insensitive but perhaps only a tad bit (?)”. It’s not being insensitive, it’s just that many of us have had enough of this dumb filler nonsense. Last episode, I felt really sorry for the little kid, but I got over it 5 seconds later when the camera cut back to Maribel’s constipated expression, her face swimming in glycerin fake tears. Ugh!
Sorry if this offends anyone, but I have a low threshold for constantly sniveling, woe-is-me, awfully-acted, has-no-business-being-in-this-story-to-begin-with, cringeworthy schmaltz. That’s why I fast-forwarded through all the velorio / funeral scenes in this episode.

-- Lila: Thank you for verbalizing many of the confused thoughts swimming around my confused head because of this confused show! I’m not rooting for anyone or any storyline in particular, but I have this strange feeling that the writers won’t commit to anything just yet until they’re done testing the waters (audience reaction, ratings, etc). They’re not allowing Eladio to go full evil nor are they allowing Arturo to start redeeming his (many) faults. Still, in a way I’m glad that we don’t know which way things are going; it keeps us guessing. I like the main foursome of actors, I like the soundtrack and I absolutely adore the wonderfully witty recaps as well as the output of the recappers and commenters in the Patio (of Lowered Expectations, as NovelaMaven likes to say)! All in all, I’m greatly entertained!

-- Tofie: “Lots of stupid stuff in this show but a pissing contest over a girl in a restaurant in suits, takes it.” True, the posturing between those two knuckleheads is getting tiresome and the writing is not the best, but I’m having a blast watching PyP! I like the cast - save for the WTFs -, I like the suits, I like not knowing how the plot will unravel and I like that this not a “Mejía/Abud” production. More importantly, I get to learn Spanish and hang out with the coolest peeps this side of cyberspace, while shamelessly ogling FC and the guy who plays Agustín.

-- Vivi: “Someone should just put Eladio and Arturo in a boxing ring, and let them go at it until one or both of them pass out.” I wholeheartedly agree and would even volunteer to do some ear-pulling when they’re done.

-- Mauricio: Daniela is indeed doing a good job in the kitchen, considering she’s a spoilt princess who spends all day getting dolled up, gossiping on social media and gabbing on the phone to Looliss or Lupis or whatever her ‘fresa’ phone interlocutor of choice seems to be called.

(to be continued)

(cont.)

-- Susanlynn: “P.s. I am not going to the funeral. I still have no idea why we had to watch this character suffer and die.” - Filler, filler, filler! That’s why. The writers could’ve started the show with a recently-widowed Justino or they could’ve done away with that family altogether. These characters have zero incidence on the plot, other than provide filler scenes to stretch the episodes further. But if the writers have Justino fall for Clara, so help me! I can sense the silly love triangle coming along but I’m holding out hope for this writing team. Please don’t do this to us! Also, your alternative title had me howling! "Hoors and Dimwits."! I see your feeling under the weather has not affected your sense of humor one bit. Feel better soon!

-- Daisynjay: I’ll be hearing the rumble music from West Side Story every time these two “overgrown teenager” go at it over insipid, crazy eyes Julia. :)
-- Anon 207: I think you’re right. Consuelo was not sexually exploited in the brothel. I seem to recall her very first conversation with Clara in episode 1 or 2, where she said she was afraid of Erick’s reaction when he finds out she lied to him about her origins. She seemed mortified for the fact she lied to her man and ashamed of her mother’s profession, but there was no hint of anything else. There was no indication she was sexually abused, but idiot Erick is going to turn this into something nasty and accuse her of being a prostitute when, in fact, he’s the one dating the prostitute (RatHo is selling sexual favors to Eladio in exchange for money while boinking the Montenegro Idiot Child on the side, that makes her a hooker in my book).

-- Karen: “Julia really ticked me off last night. I understand she is fearful but it seems her reasoning skills are gone.” Totally agree. Almost everyone here is lamenting the lack of a protagonist in this TN, I think we also need to look for an alternative “protagonista”, because Julia is far from being one. On the other hand, her reasoning skills line up perfectly with those of Arturo, so...

-- Anita: Stupidity is contagious on the show. Thank the TN Gods for Rev Auggie!

-- Gringo: I completely agree that despite Miguel creepy behavior and the unease many of us feel with the pseudo-incestuous relationships the Montenegro siblings are pursuing, Miguel would be a waaaaay better husband and father than Erick. Also, please feel free to bash Nina all you want, our friendly bickering over her and over other characters is what keeps this forum lively and enjoyable. It’s all in good fun! As for Maribel, well, she lost sympathy as a character because of the abysmal portrayal by the actress and the fact that she contributed nothing to the plot. You caring for Maribel means that you are a kinder and more sensitive than I am, I guess. Also, I fast-forwarded through most of Maribel’s scenes, so maybe the fact that you watched all her scenes made you care about more. I wish I were are patient as you. Now where’s that spiked Margarita you mentioned? I could use some now... Please pass the tray around! :)

Niecie - “I'm predicting redemption for Dani.” I really hope she gets redeemed! Other than being a spoiled brat and an annoying young sister, she hasn’t done anything truly horrible (OK, she kissed that pathetic loser fiancé of Regina but she really did her a favor!).

NovelaMaven - Thanks maestra! Glad to be here. I've been reading a few Caray Caray! recaps here and there of shows that were aired years ago, all the while wishing I could join in. You have no idea how happy and excited to be finally able to participate. I'm like a kid high on sugar on Christmas morning!

JudyB - I was moved more by your take on the Maribel-Justino relationship than all the rivers of fake tears these characters could have summoned in their many scenes together. Thank you. The song is by Mane de la Parra and Pancho Céspedes and is tentatively called "No te olvido" pero credited as "Sólo sé que no te olvido". Here are the (incomplete) lyrics:

Mane de la Parra:
Quisiera regresar el tiempo
y revivir lo que vivimos
aunque han pasado muchos años
me pregunto como juntos
nuestra vida hubiera sido

Pancho Céspedes:
hoy que te sigo desde lejos
veo que has cumplido ya tus sueños
y aunque te escondas detrás de tu amor perdido
me pregunto si en verdad eres feliz

That's all I could find online, but I'll listen in next time Julia and Arturo get together (Ugh!) and write down the lyrics for you.

Nandicta:)-- "Thank the TN Gods for Rev Auggie!" I thought I saw where he was recently sainted.

Carlos--Our take on Nina's reaction to the news of Connie's original origins is predicated on her prior behavior in general. She doesn't like Connie and has told her to her face she's not a good wife. It's not too much of a stretch for her to back up Erick in his quest for a divorce.

Thanks Nandicta. I found the same info you did, but alas, so far it's not on iTunes. Really wanted to download it. Francisco Cespedes has a wonderful gentleness to his voice, and with the guitar, it reminds me a lot of some of the Brazilian songs I have loved over the years.

You have a wonderful way of noting and affirming all of the comments. We need to get you put into a recapper slot "cuanto antes" m'dear. You have the gift of building community and community is what makes CarayCaray such a wonderful place, in spite of the poor quality of the telenovelas right now.

I still go back and watch episodes of Teresa because that was a humdinger. Something interesting, or poignant, or outrageous (or all three) happened every single episode and Angelique Boyer really played her role well.

Anyway, thanks for moving out of Lurkdom and into community in such a thoughtful and generous way.

Oooh, Nandicta:) a musico-logist in our midst. Can you do the same for David and Regina's theme? I'd swear I've heard it before, but we never get enough of it to fixate on some of the words (to search with, that is).

Judyb..A few years ago, I had a young Brazilian dentist in class who made a cd of Brazilian tunes for me . I still listen to it sometimes in the car even though I can only recognize about three words (which are close to the three Spanish words I recognize.)

Thanks, Nandicta. I started taking an antibiotic yesterday and was feeling better this afternoon, but then I did six loads of laundry and a sinkful of dishes while babysitting and started having pain again .This is what women do when they are sick.

Judyb..What are you dancing to in class lately? I like The Weeknd's "I Can't Feel My Face" but then my daughter said to me "You know that song is about cocaine, don't you ?" Nope..did not know that.

Anita..Did you see that Outlander got three Golden Globe nominations..lead actress, supporting actor, and TV drama. No nomination for beautiful Sam.....que lastimna...so wrong

Sorry I couldn't join the conversation today. This was great as usual Novela Maven.

-- JudyB: Thank you for your kind words. Everyone here has been so sweet and welcoming; you all made me feel right at home and I'm truly grateful.

As regards getting a recapping spot, well, ¡Qué más quisiera yo! However, my circumstances don't allow me, for the time being, to a regular recapping gig. I'll be happy to lend a hand if and when our recappers need it, though.

I haven't had a chance to see Teresa yet (not crazy about either Boyer or Rulli) but based on your feedback, I'll definitely add it to the waiting list. I'm currently watching "Cuna de Lobos" and THAT is a masterful TN. I'm one third through it and it is near perfect. All the hype around is justified!

-- Anita: David and Regina's theme song is called "Ecos de Amor" by Jesse & Joy, the group that gave us "Corre", Rogelio and Ana Paula's song on LQNPA; that's why it sounds so familiar to you. I promise to post the full lyrics and their translation for you tomorrow (Saturday 12th. It's already 'tomorrow' here in Morocco. I'm talking to you from the future!)

Susanlynn..hope they gave you Ceftin. I had a cold for six weeks (Hah!) and when it was finally diagnosed as a sinus infection, that stuff really knocked it out. But I laughed at your "this is what women do when they are sick". Yes, I can remember when my kids were little, having some kind of flu, throwing up, wiping up, and then getting in the car to drive them wherever they needed to go. And of course dinner still had to be made and laundry done. Life doesn't stop when you're sick. Unless you're a man and a professor. Then you just cancel your classes and get to bed. At least that's how my husband did it.

Haven't heard Can't Feel my Face but will check it out. Shut Up and Dance is a great song to dance to. One of the singer's moms was in my class for a while. Honey I'm Good is also a lot of fun. And good ol' Meghan Trainor singing Dear Future Husband is a hoot. Country-wise, you can't beat Buzzin' for hysterically funny lyrics and delivery. And for sentimental reasons, I put in Crush by Jennifer Page. It was one of the songs Madalaine tagged in one of her recaps. Lordy, I miss that gal.

Nandicta...Rulli has an incredible drunk/ violent scene in that one. He and Boyer did a superb job acting it out. His performance was so good, at the awards ceremony when Colunga got the best actor prize instead of Rulli, the audience booed. He was that good. In Teresa. Otherwise, yes, he's just a pretty face. But he was awesome in that particular scene. Surprised me.

-- JudyB: Ooooh, I'm intrigued! Will definitely watch it after I finish Cuna de Lobos.

-- Susanlynn: My Mama always says that "women are more resilient in their illness than men who lay in the bed agonizing because of a little flu!", then looks at my Dad for emphasis.

-- Musical OT: Thanks for your recommendations of songs to dance to. It's 2 a.m here, Morpheus won't take me in his arms just yet so these are the last two chill-out songs I listened to:

1) This one was sent to me by a friend from India a few years ago. It features a poem by prominent Pashto poet Ghani Khan and is sung by young musicians from Pakistan (there is an English translation of the poem in the video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwHeSEfIIq4

2) The piece is by a Turkish qanun player called Göksel Baktagir. I encountered his music during a trip to Istanbul almost 6 years ago and something about this song moved me deeply. Although this is an instrumental piece, it speaks volumes. There is so much longing in this musical composition that with every stroke of the qanun strings I felt tremors in my heart: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LieCp3_SOYk

Enjoy! :)

-- OT for JudyB and Susanlynn: One last musical OT, if you'd indulge me. This is a lovely romantic song in Arabic (colloquial Egyptian). There's a translation in the video; not best, but you'll get the gist of what the song is about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6UYzkWcodA

Buenas noches! :)

Judyb..Isn't the cyberworld amazing? I checked my pill bottle, and I do, in fact, have a generic form of Ceftin. Small world ..of illness..no? I hope that it works as well in the generic form for me as it did for you. Like you, I have been feeling slightly off and stuffed up for a few weeks. Then, suddenly , after work on Wednesday, I felt awful. I felt better this afternoon..then worse..now better. With Christmas coming and finals to give I have to get back on my feet fast.

Not to worry, Susanlynn, I had the generic form also. It's just that "Ceftin" is a lot shorter and easier to type than the generic name!

Nandicta...will look forward to listening to your music selections later in the day. Off for an early morning run to the grocery store before the Saturday crowds hit.
