Yo No Creo En Los Hombres, #115 Monday 12/28/15 A Death in the Family

This is a super sad episode and the recap is very long because of all the detail.

A little refresher from way back last Wednesday, Orlando and Claudio are in the ICU with Isela who is on life support, arguing about who will take care of the baby. Orlando claims that Isela’s last wish was to have Orlando take care of her, but Claudio wants to step up and claim the baby as his own, even giving her his last name. Poor Doris, hanging back by the doorway, hears this exchange and is heartbroken at learning Orlando’s intentions and feelings. Just then, Isela takes a huge breath and her eyes jolt open. Orlando reacts, and runs to get the doctor while Claudio stands there stunned. (I know who I want around me in an emergency, and it’s not the Clod).
Orlando finds a doctor, sees Doris, hugs her saying that Isela is awake, and goes back in.

Back at the poor person's hospital, The Padre comes out with the nurse after baptizing the baby, the nurse tells Esperanza and Max that she will send them the video of it. Why couldn’t they be there in person?
Just then, Max gets a call that Alma is brought to the rich person's hospital.  He runs off to see about her.

Wow, Clara is all dolled up, hair curled and loose, looking sexy in a black strappy dress with the other girls giving out flyers for a night club? and Leo walks by and sees her there. She asks the other girls to not tell Corina that she’s working there, I guess they know Corina from Corina’s past work, but they assure her they won’t because they are all working there because they need the money for their families too.
Meanwhile, the guy who hired her is calling another guy to tell him that the new girl, Clara, has started but he’s surprised that she came because she didn’t seem comfortable with doing this kind of work, but she needs the money, so it wasn’t hard to convince her. But she’s all natural, innocent, no fake boobs, just like your clients like. So the guy he’s talking to tells him to call back when she’s ready to move on from handing out flyers.

At the prison, Nayeli is trying to talk MD out of investigating Martha’s death. Let Max handle it. Bottom line: There was no talking her out of it.

Back on the street, Leo comes over and tells Clara that she doesn’t have to do this kind of work. He can ask Max to give her work at the office. But Clara doesn’t want anyone to know that she quit school so no. Just then, Leo gets a call from Max about their mother. Clara runs after him.

Back at Isela’s wing, the doctor informs them that she didn’t wake up. She’s in what’s called a vegetative state. She didn’t wake up, she just reacted to something, but she’s still in a coma and may stay this way for years or die in a few months. They can move her back home, she doesn’t need to stay in the hospital while she’s still alive and the baby continues to grow.

The prison nurse is wrapping up MD’s belly to help with the afterpains? I’ve never heard of doing this before. She tells her that her womb will shrink back to normal soon. If she could breastfeed her baby, the pains would stop sooner, or they could give here a pill and it would stop the milk flow and also end the pains. MD doesn’t want to do that yet, she’s hoping to be able to feed the baby. This is all new to me, I thought that the milk dries up fairly rapidly if it isn’t expressed within a day or two.

Doris and Orlando are in the waiting room when Doris tells Orlando that she wishes this could have happened to her instead of Isela because his daughter needs him. Orlando says what we would expect, that he would not want that. She confesses that she overheard him tell Claudio that no one loves Isela more than him and that made her feel sad and unloved. Orlando confesses that Isela was his first love, she’s lived near him since they were little,  and it pains him so much because it was his fault that she’s in her situation. Doris tells him that it wasn’t his fault, but Orlando comes back with what the doctor said, he should never have moved her. Doris gets up right away to confirm this with the doctor. She knows that Orlando will never get over the guilt if he continues to think that. Orlando follows.
She finds the doctor, asks him if he said that it was Orlando’s fault that Isela is in a coma for moving her. The doctor said he never said that. It’s true, never move someone who has had an injury to the head, neck, or vertebrae, but she’s in the coma because of the hit to her head from the fall she suffered. Esperanza comes over just then, and tells them that Alma is now at the hospital too.

Corina comes back to hell to visit Nayeli and MD. Corina thanks MD for all the help to release her, and for all her family helping her now. Corina is going to be helping Max with Nayeli’s case too. But she also gives Nayeli the bad news, Aldo, her ex, has remarried and has a child with her.

Ivana is at the hospital too, heard the news about Alma and is giving her condolences, tells him that she will tell Claudio, Oh yeah, Claudio, lol, when Leo runs in. The doctor also arrives to tell them that she’s bad and it’s unpredictable as to what will happen next. She could recover or not. Just like Isela’s mess, no? The boys are devastated.

Nayeli gets angry and tells them that she doesn’t even care what Aldo does with his life, she only cares about her children. Corina tells her that the kids aren’t with Aldo. This enrages Nayeli. Have you seen them? Are they together? This is her biggest worry, that they aren’t together to take care of each other. Corina tells her that she hasn’t seen them, she’s still looking for them. She’s asked the neighbors, but no one knows anything. But it’s better that they’re not with Aldo, but she promises she will continue to look.

Back in Alma’s hospital room, Max and Leo are permitted to see her. She’s sitting up in bed, alive. She asks if it’s true about Isela, she’s bad but they are trying to save the baby. Then Max asks who told her. Josefa...

Ivana pays Isela a visit, followed by Esperanza. She tells Isela that she remembers when Isela was a little girl and she was crying because Josefa hit her, and Rodolfo and Espy promised to protect her, and look at what a bad job they did. But she promises that all of them will take care of and protect her little girl. Ivana then chimes in that she wants to take care of the little baby. She would like Esperanza to convince Orlando to let Ivana take care of Isela and raise the baby. Esperanza can’t go against Isela’s last wish that Orlando take care of her. And she can’t help think it odd that Ivana has only known Isela a few months. Ivana continues to plead her case, it’s true she’s thinking more of the baby, and Ivana has soooo much money she can give the baby everything it wants and needs. Ok, she didn’t say that about her money, but her love. She would even take care of Isela in the meantime. To end this uncomfortable conversation, Espy finally says that Claudio probably has the last word on this legally since he’s the baby’s father. But Esperanza does takes advantage of this exchange to plead for her daughter’s release from prison. She needs Ivana’s help with her testimony. Ivana promises to be there for the hearing.
As Orlando and Doris are leaving the hospital, he tells her that right before Isela had her accident, he had prepared a surprise for her. He wanted to do something to show her that he love her. She tells him that he already did it. When he said that it would kill him if Doris died. Well, he also wanted them to be able to talk, and he actually wanted to propose marriage to her. Now Doris is alarmed. She asks him if he’s changed his mind since he’s talking past tense. He tells her that since all this has happened to Isela, that he’s not sure she would want to marry him and also raise Isela’s baby and take care of Isela too.
Doris wants to know why would he have to take care of the baby. What about Claudio?
He said it was Isela’s last wish that he take care of the baby. And you know what? Even if it hadn’t been, he would do it anyway because Josefa told the doctor to disconnect life support so that Isela and the baby would die.
Doris wants time to think about this. It’s a huge life-changing event. She’s not sure if she’s ready for this. She gets up to leave.

Nayeli warns Corina to be very careful of Aldo. If he finds out that she’s investigating the kids for Nayeli, he’s likely to take it out on the children.

The two neighborhood guys buy some parts from Aldo, I forget the reason Corina asked them to do this for her. They are stolen? She wants to get him in trouble?

Clara shows up at the hospital and meets with Esperanza, but Clara doesn’t know what’s happened, she just heard Leo's end of the conversation. Espy fills her in that it’s only a matter of hours before Alma passes away. Clara agrees she wants to be there for Leo. And Leo needs her too since Max is so preoccupied with everything he’s got going on.
Leo is standing guard outside of Alma’s room and won’t let Claudio in, lol. Espy and Clara come over and he lets them in. Leo steps in and asks Alma if Claudio can come in too, and she agrees. Max pulls out his phone, and everyone watches the video of the baby’s baptism. Alma learns that they named the baby Alma, Max said that MD decided that. Alma wishes them to be happy after all they have suffered. The camera pans to Claudio, the main reason for the suffering, and Max gives him the stink eye.

Corina lets MD know all that her family has done for her now that she’s out. She has a job and Espy is letting her stay at their house. They plead with Corina to find her parents to let them know she’s safe and sound, there’s nothing worse for a parent to not know what’s happening with their children. (that’s the truth.)

As Max, Claudio, Espy, and Clara are leaving the room, Josefa finally shows up. She spews so much slang, I have no idea what she’s saying, but it prompts Claudio to tell her to stop saying awful things about Isela. Max tells her that they aren’t there for Isela, but for his mother after what she’s done to her to cause her to need to come to the hospital. She’s just killing two birds with one stone, getting rid of all of Claudio’s women, says Josefa. Max tells her to leave, or he will force her out.

Doris is unburdening herself on Esperanza, Chelita and Clara. She always thought that she and Orlando would get married, travel, live a fun carefree life for a while, and now she doesn’t know what to do. They discuss the implications of taking care of Isela and the baby. Poor Doris.

Alma slowly wheels her IV drip to visit Isela. She gets another blow when she sees Claudio asleep at Isela’s bedside with his hand on her womb. Poor Alma, she’s really getting the crap thrown at her. She crumbles into a ball and cries outside the room. The next scene is Alma walking perfectly fine into her room and she kneels down to kiss Leo on the forehead. He wakes up to see her lying in bed. He goes over to her and kisses her, only to feel her face is cold and he can’t wake her up. He cries over her death.
The end.

Looking forward to it, Cathyx!

It was very fitting that on the same day MD's baby was christened with the name Alma, or Little Alma (Almita), big Alma left this world. Rest in peace, Alma, because your last moments on Earth certainly weren't peaceful.

Alma's death was so sad. Don't know what else to say about it. Incredible work Luz María Jerez, incredible. I felt Maleny, Julian and Alma's not sure I can take anymore.

I agree. That was a sad death and I hope that someone realizes what brought it on. Great performance by Luz Maria Jerez and good work on the makeup and lighting crew to make her look so deathly ill.

I also agree with Vivi about the baby's name. This ties her to Max as well as other considerations.

At first I thought it was Orlando by Isela's bedside but somebody on Twitter said it was Claudio.

I wonder what was in the note in Alma's hand? She had the thing Clara gave Leo in her other hand.

Very sad to see Spirit Alma kiss Leo goodbye. Spirit Alma did not kiss Max goodbye, I wonder why.

I wonder who found Alma in the hallway after she collapsed in tears?

I actually thought Alma was going to see Almita.

I fell asleep and missed all of Pasion y Poder and the first 15 minutes of No Creo:

Who found Alma in the nursery? Did they know that Josefa was the one who agitated her?

Anon207- Yes. It was Claudio at Isela's bedside all night, who Alma spotted.

Yes, I thought it was sweet how Spirit Alma (sans tubes and with a healthy spring in her step, so we knew it was her spirit) kissed Leo. Not sure if Max was also asleep in the hospital room, so we didn't see her spirit kiss him too.

MD's baby, Almita, is in the poor people's hospital, not the rich people's hospital where Alma and Isela are, so she couldn't go see her.

Nothing was said that implicates Josefa, yet.

Looking forward to your recap, Cathy.

I agree with all the other commenters on how sad Alma's death was. I was moved to tears when she found out MD's baby was named Almita. Maybe this joyous moment helped relieve the pain, suffering and sadness she was enduring these last hours.
Beautiful acting.

Ann-NYC

It's very sad. Alma never got her dying wish. She never got to see Max and Maria Dolores married and never got to see Almita in person or hold her.

All because Claudio is a coward and cares more about his public image than his family.

It would serve Claudio right if Isela also died that day. His erectile dysfunction might come true then.

What was Ivana talking about with Esperanza? All I caught was when it was time to testify for Maria Dolores, she would. Why hasn't she made a statement to the police yet?

I can't post my opinion because it might sound like a spoiler.

Due to a mix-up that was my fault I have tonight's episode instead of last night's. It will post on time. Poder might be a little late if I get interrupted this afternoon. Since next week is likely to be my last YNCELH capitulo there shouldn't be any lateness issues on my part that I can't warn you about in advance.

The recap is up. It was so sad.

Cathyx- Just started reading, but wanted to clarify. There are two different hospitals. The nice one with the purple walls where Alma and Isela are (being paid for by Clod/Alma, and Ivana respectively), and the lower quality one where the state took MD and the baby, with the white walls and the big colorful mural in the waiting area.

OK, back to the recap.

Ok, Vivi, I will fix that, thanks.

Awesome recap, of a very sad episode, Cathyx. Thanks so much.

RIP, Alma.

I think Orlando was very sincere when he told Doris that he loves her and would just die if she were the one lying in that hospital bed. And he's right that he can't just ask her to marry him like he was planning too, now that he's decided to take responsibility to both Isela and her baby. Yikes! Time for Clod to step up and put a stop to this madness. Yeah, I know it was Isela's last wish and all, but as always she wasn't thinking of Orlando and him moving on with HIS life.

Not liking where this is going with Clara-- no one knows where she works, except Leo (I believe he followed her), and her boss already pimping her out to a client who likes them innocent and natural.

I think it was very selfish of Isela to saddle Orlando with this responsibility. While he is a good man he is in no financial position to care for a child at this time and she had to know that this would interfere with his relationship with Doris.

We can't fault Isela for not wanting Hosefa or Claudio to have the baby, but making Orlando or Esperanza her guardian doesn't protect the baby from Hosefa. The best outcome would be for Max and Maria Dolores to become the parents despite that this poor infant would eventually face hearing that the man she's calling "Daddy" is actually her brother. Max displays all evidence of disowning Claudio in the future and they wouldn't be living anywhere near Hosefa.

Who should end up in prison or hell if Karmageddon works in this series.

Still waiting to find out what Arango plans to do to the Santibanez vipers.

CathyX, as always you have given us a great recap, thank you!

I felt so bad for Alma, I always have a hard time watching tv mom's die, especially of cancer, so last nights episode was hard to watch. I'm glad she got to see baby Alma and hope that Claudio finally stops being so passive and actually does something to help MD out. One more thing about Alma, I found it touching that she worried about Isela down to her last minute, it seemed that she really hurt for her which says a lot about her character when you consider what Isela did to her.

Anon, I agree it's sad about Alma not getting to hold her grandchild or even see her in person and not getting her wish to be at their wedding.
Alma was basically a good person, the only reason she turned against MD was because she believed the lies that Maleny told about her, and she had no reason not to trust Maleny then.

Claudio is completely to blame for her suffering, from having an affair with Isela to keeping MD in jail.

great cathyx I almost started crying reading and sure it was tough to recount everything. Thank you

I guess I missed the memo and never heard a definitive Orlando should raise the child so struggle with the whole plot. Oh well, Claudio can stop it quick and if not him Josefa or Max. Orlando and Espy are way down the wish list.

I still don't like Orlando and think it very selfish of him to say the plans have changed, take it or leave it.

I also didn't hear any hash out of Josefa's role in Alma's hospitalization. At least Max threatened her to get out or he would drag her out.

MD made it a day without someone roughing her up.

And Alma changed her tune and apologized quickly to support MD and Clara. No wiggling but straight up knew she was wrong and said so. Claudio on the other hand went after MD.

I hate no one will know all the nasty things Isela did to MD.

cathyx--Here's a big thank you for recapping this episode that was so hard to watch.

tofie--I also hate that no one will know what Josefa did to Alma to essentially sentence her to death.

Gotta run some errands now.

So glad to hear that so many of you were as richly rewarded by the work of Luz Maria Jerez as I was upon first watching this novela. Alma's death was heartbreaking, and Sra. Jerez certainly 'brought it'...

This is a mightily talented actress.

And thanks to Cathyx for the terrific recap! :-)

Thanks, Cathyx. Fine, detailed recap of a very sad episode.

Glad Alma got to see her granddaughter by video. Perfect that she knew they named the baby after her.

I don't like Claudio, but he should get to raise his daughter if he doesn't get sent to prison. He was apparently a good father to Max and Leo before the affair with Isela, so I guess he'd be a good father to Almita. And ITA he's got the dough to cover Isela's care.

Orlando is very emotional now and not thinking clearly. Isela is on her death bed, so I couldn't see him answering Isela's request with "Let me talk to Doris first and I'll get back with you," but that's what he should do.

I hated seeing Ivana put her hand on Isela's stomach. She does not know Isela that well. She's like a leach. Lady, go to an orphanage and adopt a child. On second thought, get therapy first.

Isela will take too many secrets to the grave with her and it bothers me that MD will never know.

However, there is still the possibility that Hosefa will brag to someone about driving Alma to the grave. If she tells anyone that there is always the chance that Max and Leo will find out. She could also spill the beans about Isela's betrayal of MD because she knows more about that than anyone. I think Claudio knows a hint of it but not the specifics. She played him just as Ursula once did.

Thank you Stevey and Niecie. I agree that Claudio should raise the baby. Whoever takes the baby has to take Isela too. She could continue living long after she has the baby. Orlando is in no position to take care of the baby, let alone Isela.

Thank you for the recap Cathyx!

So sad to see Alma go. I agree that Luz María Jeréz was outstanding.

The wrapping they did to MD's stomach is a common thing to do here after giving birth. I don't know if it helps that much though.

Ivana is so creepy now with her baby obsession.

Jarocha

You guys do a masterful job of recapping the novels.. If it wasn't for all of you I would not be able to figure out what is going on. I rely on closed caption in English and it has been very bad of late. It is especially annoying when you are at the end of a novela and all the suspense is finally revealed. The closed caption on the night time novellas are always messed up, either way behind in the conversation, no translation at all and flipping between English and Spanish. Makes me want to tear my hair out. So a great BIG thank you for your dedication to this site that allows all of us who love Spanish novellas and need interpretation. A very Happy New Year to all of you!!!!

Thank you Jarocha and ro1947. It is a labor of love.

I think that Ivana has an obsession with taking babies that already have someone who wants to care for it. We know she knows there are plenty of babies waiting to be adopted who have no one who wants to take care of them, but she's insisting on having one who does. That's sick.

Niecie- I agree that Orlando is too emotional right now to make any kind of decision about anything. And Doris definitely shouldn't be making any decisions right now based on Orlando's decisions. He's too much in his grief and guilt. I'm really glad to had them speak to the doctor to knock that guilt right out of there. No, he shouldn't have moved Isela. But it had nothing to do with her coma and vegetative state. That was already a done deal.

Missed a word: I'm glad SHE had them speak to the doctor...

Cathyx, good recap. And as you said very sad
Episode.
Alma walking into her room all healthy....that
Was her spirit. She left that old house and
Kissed her baby for the last time. She died of
A broken heart more than she did of cancer.
O what misery these people are in. That old
Wretch, yall this is truly tv cause in real life that Woman(and I use that term loosely) would end up in the ccu after saying What she said about alma and no iselsa didn't deserveThat either.
Ivanna ivanna ivanna.....the lady needs some
Serious therapy. she'll even take care of the mother that's in a coma just to get her hands on the baby. It would good if this tn went out
With the year, but it will be preempted cause
Of New years and we'll see the last of it next
Week. Ok I can do that. We'll see the bad
Guys and b*tches get theirs. I would love to see Ho-sefa go to jail for killing isela. If what the Doc says is true, she could die. I hope she Doesn't.
