Pasión y Poder #37 Monday 12/29/15 What Good Wine Goes with a Hot Francofurter?

Sorry, once again, not edited.  Still sick.  Thanks for your get well wishes.

In this episode, Eladio has harassed or has pissed off most of the people in the telenovela.  So, I thought this was an appropriate song for your listening pleasure.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afxvVWj0aWU

Eladio releases the canaries, but captures Julia by her reed, thin neck. He's pissed that she left the hospital without alerting him.  He tells Julia, that she's useless and uneducated.  He's knows that she's seen Art.  After Eladio leaves, Julia tells herself that she will stop being useless and will learn to take care of herself.  She will then leave him.

Eladio keeps the party hoppin' and moves it into the house by terrorizing Gaby as Franco, her spineless boyfriend, looks on and does absolutely nada!  Finally, we learn lots of prepositions, but not the good sex ones that we can use, Susanlynn.  Gabby is visciously tossed on top of the table, bounced off of the wall, down on the couch and choked between the door way. Once Eladio is gone, Gaby asks Franco why he didn't take her side.  He said that she was in the wrong, she should have called Eladio.

Meanwhile, back in the hood, Clara and Francisco have returned from the big soccer match.  Cute, yet annoying Lucita runs out of the room and jumps into Clara's arms.  Clara carries home in order to put her to bed.  Now, for some strange reason, Connie comes out of the room and offers to clean the face paint off of Francisco.  This is a bad idea on so many levels.  Why is she rubbing her best friend's crush?  I'd punch her.  She ain't pregnant in the face.  Anyways, Erick walks in while she's mackin' on Clara's man.  Erick grabs Connie.  He can't believe that she's only been gone a day, but she's already rubbin' up on some other dude.  Team Erick on this one.  Francisco tries to jump in between them.  Erick tries to take a few swings at Francisco.  Connie yells that Francisco is with Clara.  Gisela runs in and says that Connie is messing up her happy home.  Clara runs in and tells Erick that Francisco is her boyfriend.  Clara screams at both Erick and Gisela.  She tells Erick to stop treating his pregnant wife like crap and to be a man.  Erick tells Connie that he doesn't know why he came.  He tells her to lose his number. He's outtie.  She falls to her knees and begs him to listen.  He tells her not to touch him.  She tries chasing him out of the door, but Clara blocks her and tells her BF to have some pride!   Later, Francisco apologizes for getting Connie in trouble, but she tells him that it wasn't his fault.

Back at the Gomez-Luna mansion, Julia and Gaby agree that Eladio they have to get away from Crazy Walking Around in a Suit aka Eladio. Julia's mad because Eladio called her dumb and lazy and released her birds.  Gaby now understands why Julia married Eladio.  He acts like Humberto.  Julia was taught at home to tolerate that type of behavior.

Franco takes Marintia, the secretary with benefits, to a hotel.  She's a little miffed that he didn't take her out to dinner first, but he tells her Francofurter is on the menu tonight.  She can order room service for the wine.  Afterwards he tells her that no one in respects him.  Even Humberto thinks that he's a freeloader.  He's worked hard to get where he is, but David got 20K shares.  He was simply kicked out of the house for dating the Montenegro chick.  Marintina suggests that Franco dump Gaby, but realizes that he needs Gaby to get in with the family.  What W(h)ine Goes with Francofurters?  Marintia reminds Franco that he's supposed to be at some Farmer's meeting with Eladio.  Franco says he didn't go because he's not respected.

http://eatocracy.cnn.com/2012/03/26/frank-talk-pairing-wine-with-hot-dogs/

Speaking of the Farmer's meeting.  Eladio shows up and notices that Franco is not there to greet him.  Santiago introduces Eladio. As Eladio begins to address the audience, Art and Augie walk in.  Art tells the Farmers that Santiago and Eladio are lying to them.  They are trying to building 300 units on land that will only sustain 50 units.  The 250 additional units will bring in more people who will require more water and services.  Water that farmers need for their crops.  Art wins.  Later, Eladio tells Art that he won that battle, but he didn't win the war.  Eladio has what Art loves and he is never going to see her again.  Art stops the gloating.

After Eladio is gone, Art runs over to Augie and tells him that Eladio knows about his meeting with Julia.  Dammit, he won't let me see his wife again!

Regina and Miguel are Skyping.  Miguel tells Gina that Connie might be staying with her best friend Clara.  Clara works for Gomez-Luna.  Gina says that she will ask Dave for the address.  Later, David agrees to do anything, find anyone and go anywhere when Gina sits on his lap and gives him smooches in bed.  Yeah, she'll have the address in the promptly in the morning.  David later calls Francisco and confirms that Connie is at Clara's.

The Ratt opens her door to Erick.  She'll give him some tail, but he's got to stay all night.  He says that he ain't afraid of his daddy!

Cancel the Viagara Order!  Art goes home and finds his wife wearing only a towel.  She asks about his day and drops her towel.  This time she doesn't desperately hump his leg, but gives him a little peak before asking for her night gown.  He hands it to her.  Later, when they are in bed, she turns away.  Little Artie has already forgotten that Julia exists.  He encourages Art to touch Julia's bare, creamy, soft naked shoulder.  He asks if the night gown is new and tells her that it reminds them of when they were young.  She turns over and pretends to go to sleep.  Below is Little Artie's Anthem.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5IVuN1N6-Y

While Art is stroking the warm, creamy shoulder, Eladio is getting the cold shoulder from his wife.  He tells her that he will remain by her side, even if she rejects him.  He's all pissed because Art won in a meeting and that means that the orphans will have to suffer it.  She is no longer allowed to work at the foundation.  He's promised Art that he will never see her again and he means it.  Gaby will take over Julia's role.  Julia says that Eladio has always been like a snake hiding under her blanket.  Like an Anaconda baby, corrects Eladio.  Eladio says that he's not a rapist.  Julia says that Eladio has raped her more than once.  Eladio says that she was begging for it last time.  Julia says that was before she new he was a bird thower-outter!

The next day, Gisela comes in and demands to know how many men Connie plans on bringing to the crib.  Gisela points towards the door.  Miguel walks in. Connie asks him why he told Erick that he wishes he was the baby's daddy.  She asks him if he loves her.  He lies and says that he loves her like a friend only.  He asks her to return home.  She says that she will only leave when Erick comes to get her.  She explains that Erick pitched a bitch over her maulin' Francisco.  If he's jealous over Francisco, he'll be back to get her.  This upsets Miguel.  As he's leaving, he asks Clara to tell him if Connie needs anything.  In return, he will give Clara free computer lessons.  Clara thinks that Miguel must really love Connie.  Miguel says insists that he loves her like a sister.  Gisela takes the opportunity to hit Miguel up for more cash since Connie is taking up space in her home.  She cleans out Miguel's wallet.

Franco has returned home.  Gaby meets him and bitches about him being out all night again.  he always runs away rather than talking.  He's upset because everyone thinks he's a bum.  Gaby will fight for their love if he will too.  Smooches.  He watched her getting tossed all over a room and not in a good way...and now she's smoochin' with him.  She deserves him.  Humberto rolls over and interupts the love fest.  She runs away to leave the men to talk.  So much for defending their love.  Humberto calls him a freeloading social-climbing bum who is not good enough to marry his grand daughter.  Humberto knows his type.  Eladio was like him, but became rich.  Unfortunately, not everyone can because rich.

Speaking of Eladio, because he's got big blue Nerf balls, he's in the mood to kick puppies and pinch babies.  He spots Gina and tells her that he knows that Art is behind her romance with David.  Gina says that she and Dave love one another.  Eladio doubts it.  Anyway, he threatens to disown Dave and make him a pauper.  He asks what she will do if she has to chose between her daddy and Dave one day.  He says that Dave will have to chose between his money and her.  She is certain that their love will survive.  Eladio tells her to bring it on.  He's going to test that theory.

Art is there when both of Erick and Daniela come stumbling in the door.  Art demands to know where they have been.  Daniela says that she's was out all night with Erick looking for Connie.  Art says that he's not a fool.  He knows that the two of them were not out together.  Dani is dressed like a tramp and he knows that she wasn't out looking for Connie.  Nina comes down the stairs and insists that the kids were out looking for Connie.  Erick says that he will get the address of Clara from the orphanage and bring Connie home.  Art says that he'd better bring her home.  Petra chimes in and says that Dani is doing a great job cleaning the house.  Dani asks her dad if she can work for him now that she's proven herself.

Marintia and Franco are in Arts office searching for paperwork to help them.  Franco is out for himself from now on. He's upset because he has been working for Eladio since he's been eighteen years old and he didn't get 20K shares.  He's a very loyal guy!  Marintia swears her allegiance to Franco and that totally turns him on.  He' whips out the Francofurter and they contaminate Eladio's desk.  As they are finishing up, Francisco comes in and hand Marintia some paper work.  He refuses to give it to Franco and will only give it to the secretary with benefits.  Franco tells her to make copies.

David stops by the house to tell his mother that he is going to Queretaro today.  He tells her that he will understand if she leaves Eladio.  He'll take care of her and the grand devil.  Humberto hears this and reminds Julia that Eladio treats her like a queen and really cares about them.  Julia tells David not to pay attention to the senile.

Over at Montenegro, Franco aka Stupid in a Suit is announced.  Right before he walks in, Art hits the record button.  Art tells Franco that he knows that he will do anything for cash.  He wants to know if Franco is willing to sell confidential information.  Before answering, please stand on that X and speak into the flower arrangement that's not really a microphone.  Franco says, yes.  That's what I'm here for.  Idiot!

So sorry to hear that you're still unwell, Cynderella. Sending healing thoughts your way...
Despite feeling under the weather, you were "al pie del cañon" for your faithful readers! Many thanks for a comprehensive and hilarious recap! We got astute observations and witty asides, punctuated by musical intervals; what's not to love? :)

I love how the episodes have picked up pace lately and are not letting up! This one was no exception. I enjoyed it thoroughly but I thought the brouhaha that broke at the vecindad made for the star scene in this episode! Erick's primate posturing "Ooh ooh aah aah Consuela is MY woman! Ooh ooh aah aah Consuelo is MY wife!" was priceless! But what made me lose it was when, before leaving, he tells his petite doormat wife to forget about him, puts on a wounded expression and says: "Me cansé de dar! (I'm tired of giving)". Then the neighborhood drunk starts wailing: "Ay, no es posible! Dios mío qué vergüenza! Ay, qué dolor, qué dolor, qué dolor! (Oh this can't be happening! My God, what a disgrace! Ah, the pain, the pain, the pain!)". Gosh, I laughed so hard! This scene was definitely rewind-worthy :D
Clara is a feisty, strong-willed woman in the PyP doormat galore of women, I'm impressed! She put up more of a resistance to Erick, both verbally and physically. Francisco on the other hand looked terrified and allowed Chimp Boy to toss him around the room like a puppet doll!

Over at Casa Montenegro, it looks like Art's sex containment strategy is heading for failure. Ah Nina, Nina, Nina... You don’t parade a tray of fragrant cupcakes in front of famished people! Arturo was devouring her with his eyes and would have dived in face first had she given him the green light. Julia who?

And speaking of the prettiest crier in this show, she was wearing a lacier more revealing number than Nina and she was prostrated on her pillow in a seductive pose... Qué The Heck? Who does that when they want to repel undesirable attention? Displaying the goodies so brazenly and striking sultry poses looks like an invitation to me... just saying! Still, Eladio stuck to his side of the bed like the good sexually-frustrated husband he is. Did you see what he was wearing? Now THAT's something that screams "No Nookie For You!"

On a tangential note, is there something in FC’s contract that obligates him to wear 12-year old pajamas? This has been his choice nightwear since MEPS! Even his pirate puffy shirt jammies from Pasión and his Amor Real onuses looked better! I know that it’s more realistic to have actors wear comfy nightwear but come on! We his female admirers haven’t seen this Bombón in years! Throw us a crumb over here! Give us a bare-chested gratuitous shot, a shower scene, a gardening scene, something! I'll be happy with a peek, just a peek where MonZorrat is not ruining the view for me!

Tons of great observations Cynderella, sick or not, it's stellar. Thanks

"I'd punch her. She ain't pregnant in the face" I'm howling

"Julia says that was before she knew he was a bird thower-outter!"

"Before answering, please stand on that X and speak into the flower arrangement that's not really a microphone"

Come on, somebody needs to look into the camera and wink, no way these actors can believe this is serious.

I'd almost say SG is doing a spot on Polly Purebred damsel in distress, except Polly Purebred had a job.

Cynderella, so sorry you are still sick. I hope you start feeling better very soon. Thank you so much for doing this incredible recap, despite feeling so poorly.

"Crazy Walking Around in a Suit aka Eladio" and "what W(h)ine Goes with Francofurters?" were my favorite lines. Stellar title!

"Little Artie has already forgotten that Julia exists". Cynderella, you echoed my feelings of frustration with Arturo perfectly here. I want to like him, I try to like him, but I can't! The very first time Nina isn't entwining herself like a snake around him, his interest is aroused (?) So much for the eternal love and devotion he was pledging to Julia.

How are we really supposed to believe in the love this couple has for one another?

I hated seeing Erick "torture" consisting of "Erick's primate posturing" (great one Nandicta)Consuelo further but the fact she knelt and begged him made me even sicker. And yes, Clara made Francisco look like a wimp by standing up to Erick, the chimp.

tofie, I would sincerely appreciate it if the actors were to look into the camera and roll their eyes or say something/anything to lift the dour atmosphere here. There is no lightness or levity anywhere.

Cynderella, thank you again.

Diana

Gracias, Cynderella. Get well soon; being sick this time of the year is really annoying.

Since Erick betrayed Arturo it's inevitable that Franco will betray Eladio. Let's hope he's a little smarter about it. He might actually be looking to break away in exchange for serious money, but I'm not holding out any hopes yet. And Gabriela should toss him to the curb on general principles, not because her nasty abuelo insists. Who died and made him boss of the world (not to mention this house?).

Thought it was interesting that Franco stuck it to Eladio by trysting on the desk with Marianita.

Both Humberto and Eladio hate women. They have reduced all the women in their lives to slaves, whores, and ciphers. I wonder whether we will ever meet Amanda. Maybe she will turn up for Humberto's funeral to spit on his grave. I hate spitting but I'd applaud that one.

And Erick needs to be disowned yesterday. His behavior toward Consuelo is disgusting. He should marry his qualquiera and lose his listing in the Social Register. Clara is right, too; Consuelo needs to find her pride. She needs to get her career back and tell Erick where to go.

More later.

Tks Cyn, great job, & being sick, ugh!

Art & El are each blessed with loyal & dedicated sons working for them.

I should be able to join you soon, they are about to kill everyone off over at Bajo.
'Til then appreciate the great recaps.

Cyn- This bug really hasn't slowed down your wit, but I do hope you are feeling better soon.

I couldn't believe it when Connie got on her knees in front of the Chimp while, Clara and the Wimp (Francisco) watched, and then told the Chump (Miguel) that the Chimp getting jealous of the Wimp gave her hope that he still loves her. Clara has her work cut out for her!

I thought Regina did a good job standing her ground with Eladio. She should have told him to take his damned hands off her when he grabbed her arms, but showing no fear was probably better. Eladio gets off on fear.

Connie is the kind of girl you want to keep away from your boyfriend. She's always in damsel in distress mode, and she'll always rely on the kindness of the men around her when she most needs support. She'll give them looks, touches, hugs, that inspire feelings of tenderness and affection in them, that can turn into other feelings. And she does all of this subconsciously, without really realizing it. Despite what he claims, I don't think Francisco is immune to her, and we certainly know Miguel is a goner. And now Clara will see it up close and personal with both guys, since Miguel will become her private tutor.

I agree about Connie Vivi but I think she is fully aware the effect the has on guys. She's no mean bitch but she knows

Cynderella, don't know how you do it, but this recap ROCKED and yet you were still not feeling well. My admiration knows no bounds.

Last night was the last night with my son home, and he bought us tickets to Star Wars, so didn't get to see this one. So Eladio was doing his best Darth Vader ( he should be dead too) and Franco seems to be doing the Kylo Ren role of evil wannabe. Problem is Julia is no General Leia.

In fact, except for Gina, I am amazed how poorly the women are portrayed in this show. I try to feel for Julia, and they keep making the point of her coming from an abusing household, but how many time does she ignore her son's plea to leave and he'll support her. He doesn't need to be wealthy and inherit millions. She needs to park that idea. And she ran a foundation, not exactly unskilled labor. She has smarts, but how the heck does she now "learn" to take care of herself back as a prisoner in the house? Online degree? Sorry...this is getting to me. And Gaby...woo girl. What the h*** are you thinking?

Same for Connie--what in the blazes is she begging that cretin for? Glad I didn't see that because I may have damaged the TV with a projectile.

And I just can't with Artie...lord, there are so few people to like, let alone tolerate in this. I almost wish this was played for pure camp, but the writers are dead serious with this melodrama. Good actors, sorry script, and yes Nandicta, maybe it would be fun to see some shirtless moments for us old brawds. Might make this more palatable.

Daisynjay

-- Tofie: "SG is doing a spot on Polly Purebred damsel in distress, except Polly Purebred had a job." Oooh, burn! :D
It's like Julia relishes playing the victim. I can't remember who said it over the weekend (I think it was either Diana or Daisynjay) but they hit the nail on the head: Julia has a martyr complex. Consuelo on the other hand has a doormat complex coupled with (in)voluntary flirting. She was making goo-goo eyes and flitting her eyelashes at both Francisco and Miguel, all the while invading their personal space and putting on her trademark "butter wouldn't melt in my mouth" expression. I wouldn't go as far as punch her in the face but she most certainly deserves to get a dressing-down for trifling with her best friend's crush and for toying with her brother-in-law's feelings.

-- Diana: I jumped ship on the Arturo-Julia "eternal love and devotion" almost from the get-go. I'm not buying it for a second! I was even rooting for Eladio yesterday at the colonos' meeting and willing him to slap that obnoxious smirk off Arturo's face! There's definitely some comedic moments in this TN and there were quite a few in yesterday's episode. Off the top of my head:
* The fight at the vecindad.
* Every Gisela scene (I'm a Raquel Olmedo fan and I'm delighted at what she's doing with this character).
* Auggie standing a couple of feet away from the Eladio-Art pissing contest then sliding back into his position of trusted wingman once Eladio leaves and asking: "¿Qué pasó?".
* Nina strutting her stuff in front of a bedazzled Arturo and a titillated Little Arturo.
* Erick and Dani returning from their respective benders and being caught by Arturo (especially when Arturo points at Dani's barely-there skirt and asks: "You went out looking for Consuelo wearing this?" and Dani nods yes, he then goes: "Do you think I'm stupid?", she shakes her head no. :D ).
* Franco's idiotic behavior throughout the episode.
I don't know which scenes were intentional comedy and which were unintentional, but I chuckled many times watching the episode last night.

-- UA: You draw an interesting parallel of the sons' betrayals of their fathers in both rival families but I highly doubt that Franco is any smarter than Erick. I was actually amazed at his recklessness and plain stupidity. For someone who's lived all his life with Eladio, worked under his direct supervision and observed him closely for so long, he's learnt virtually nothing from him or about him. Franco is nowhere near as astute, conniving, enterprising, calculating, gutsy or determined as his Padrino is. He also keeps making dumb mistakes that only a rookie would make. Having worked with Eladio for about 7 years (he told Marintia he started at GLA when he was 18), he should have mastered by now the what, when, why and how his boss likes his business transactions and day-to-day management of the business to be carried out. The only thing Franco inherited from Eladio are his devilish good looks, his ambition, his arrogance, his resentfulness and his affinity for fondling the female derrière during foreplay. Indeed, last night's romp with Marintia gives us yet another proof that the Gómez Luna men are butt grabbers! No need for a DNA test, the butt grab has spoken! :D

LOL, Nandicta! Indeed, the butt grab has spoken. :)

Thanks, Cynderella. So sorry you're feeling unwell, but your sense of humor cannot be stifled. Hoping you're getting lots of rest. My favorite zingers have already been mentioned, but here's one more: Gisela runs in and says that Connie is messing up her happy home.

ITA all said about Connie. Wiping the makeup off Francisco's face was a boldface wrong. Connie, Clara would've returned in a few minutes to handle removing Franco's war paint. Keep your paws off.

I'm Team Clara. Loved the way she shoved back Erick. I'm giving Francisco a break though. He is not Connie's boyfriend and fighting back against Erick would've made it look like he was. Best to avoid getting in the middle of married folks's business, if you can.

I'm giving Arturo a break too. Just because he's in love with Julia doesn't mean he can't be turned on by his wife. Finally, Nina is using some good strategy. But still, I don't think Arturo will go there, but he'd be a eunuch not to look. [I confess that I can't stand Erick, but I still find Chimp Boy attractive. I want to see his helmet hair get tousled.]

I don't blame Franco for betraying Eladio but wish he were clever at it.

she was wearing a lacier more revealing number than Nina and she was prostrated on her pillow in a seductive pose... Qué The Heck? Who does that when they want to repel undesirable attention?

Nandicta, ITA. I just can't get behind Julia. She hasn't done one smart thing since this TN began.

No need for a DNA test, the butt grab has spoken! :D

So true!

Franco has allowed his anger to get the better of him here and that's why he's slipping. I don't think he's quite as cold-blooded as Eladio, but I do think his recent treatment justifies being offended. He is also reacting to Humberto's presence and the effect that is having on his plans. Not to mention day to day life.

Humberto's presence is adding more poison to this household and that will do nobody any good. It has even affected Simona, who becomes more of a coward every time we see her.

Some here have accused Julia of not wanting to give up wealth and privilege, but it's really Franco who doesn't want to give that up. Both of our caged birds (Julia and Consuelo) would happily fly the coop if they felt able. Consuelo became an actual orphan while Julia was always an emotional one. I'm sure Humberto beat his wife if she showed any real affection for their daughters.

Erick is a total idiot and contrary to MonserRat's accusation, he's a mama's boy, which some women find out about their husbands when it's too late.

About Humberto's wife, Julia has said she was a gentle and docile woman under Humberto's control. Sounds like the mother was loving and affectionate to her two daughters, though she put up with Humberto's whoring around and gambling. My guess is Humberto was fine with his wife being loving to her daughters as long as she taught them to be docile like her. If Julia had witnessed her father physically beating her mother, I doubt she would give a damn about making sure he stays in a luxury private nursing home.

-- Vivi: Chimp, Chump and Wimp! Hahahaha, love it! What a choice trio of love interests for PyP's token "llorona/doormat"! Julia has way more spunk and dignity than Consuelo! For an orphan who faced a tough upbringing and enjoyed a solid modeling career she shockingly lacks backbone. Here's hoping some of Clara's confidence and strength of character rubs off on her now they're rooming together.

-- Daisynjay: I'm this close to starting a petition... "Bare the Bombón"!

-- Niecie and UA: I totally agree that Franco has plenty of reasons to lash out and seek revenge, I just think that the timing is wrong, the way he is going about it is dumb and his confidence in his "abilities" is blown out of proportions. Franco has a bloated ego and thinks waaaaay too much of himself. He is basically a treacherous, envious and obsequious little turd who thinks he's invincible and ingenious just because he's allowed access to the Big Boys table where he gets to make smug faces while cowering behind his Padrino's back. As regards Humberto, he's a tyrannical poisonous shell of a man, an antiquated model of male machismo whose mould was broken decades (if not centuries) ago! He's a failure at everything he touches so the only way he can affirm his manliness is being terrorizing and ordering around the "womenfolk" and the "servants".
I found it ironic that Humberto would call Franco “arrimado” (freeloader, sponger, parasite) when he himself has been the "arrimado" for over 25 years! At least, Franco has a job and earns his own dimes.

Nandicta, that's the hallmark of a narcissist. They can't handle their own faults so they project them onto others. They also believe they're above the rules they make for others.

The problem with Franco is that he has tried to emulate Eladio in his business methods and attitude, and even tries to be as nasty and manipulative as he sees Eladio behave. But the problem is that Franco does not have that drive to survive and gain that Eladio had to have to go from bottom dweller to a very rich man. He had to do it on his own, and succeeded at whatever costs to those around him.

Franco is riding the coattails fo someone else's labor (as does Erick), but he has no clue the deeper commitment and need that may have forged Eladio ahead, dastardly methods and all. He thought just acting like a clone and nodding in agreement would land him everything. Sure did Daddy-to-be-revealed Dearest take advantage of that, sure, and probably did a good job stringing him along. But now Franco is acting like a spoiled child who found out his brother got the toy he wanted for Christmas, and though he has a perfectly good gift too, it's not as shiny and he's going to throw a tantrum and do something to lash out and think it makes himself feel better. yeah, never works. Tantrums only come back to bite you.

"I jumped ship on the Arturo-Julia "eternal love and devotion" almost from the get-go." Amen, Nandicta, but I'm afraid there is never going to be a moment, unless he is twanged by an angel on his deathbed, that I'll think favorably of Eladio. Even with Artie acting like a 16 year old over Julia, Eladio is cruel and heartless and I'm still leaning to him doing serious harm to someone before this is over. It's just percolating under the surface in every action.

Right now I would like nothing better than Julia to wind up with neither of these "titans" of industry. She'd be far better off.

Daisynjay

Gaby: Franco IS a bum. Not only that, he's a weak bum. I don't agree with your grandfather on much but in this case he is right: Franco is a weak nobody and it's best you leave him alone.

Julia: You mean to tell me you've spent the last 45 years of your life doing nothing? There are no books in your house? There were no books at the foundation? What exactly do you do at the foundation?

IMO Julia likes the creature comforts of her cage & is unwilling to leave it so she puts up with Eladio. There's no real reason to stay; David is a grown man & I"m pretty sure there must be abused women organizations in Mexico that would help her escape Eladio. Julia could've contacted Amanda via Gaby & found a way to escape. Julia could've told her story to Arturo and he could've helped her escape. David offered to take her with him to Queretaro. Eladio is not her jailer; Julia herself is her jailer.

Connie: Is very inappropriate with men not her husband & is sending inappropriate signals to both Francisco and Miguel. She needs to stop, before somebody stops her.

Clara: If it's YOUR house, why are you letting Gisela talk any old kind of way to you & your friends? Line up a new roommate and kick Gisela out.

Franco: You don't get respect because you don't respect yourself. Licking Eladio's buttcrack all this time and at the end of the day, he's going to give it all to David, who does NOT and will not kiss Eladio's butt. You are a scurvy little worm not deserving of respect. Get some for yourself and you'll get some from others.

Anon207, Julia has also spent 45 years hearing she is worthless from both Humberto and Eladio. This abuse, as someone above pointed out, was perhaps unintentionally reinforced by her mother's capitulation to Humberto's tyranny. She may have been a straight-A student in school but that would have meant nothing to Humberto. She has run a foundation to help children, but not for a salary. She may not know that her skills in doing that have a monetary value. She's been brainwashed.

Consuelo never had a family in the accepted sense. Her boundaries aren't normal because there wouldn't have been normal ones anywhere she has lived.

Does Clara own that house or does Gisela? I'm not clear on this. Either way, she has no boundaries either and needs to be told off.

Clara also grew up in the orphanage and she is not pawing over various men. Consuelo is, and though she might not be doing it intentionally, she is doing it and needs to be told about herself so she can stop.

You can't fuss at Miguel for riding to your rescue but as soon as Nina or Erick or Montserrat upsets you, make damsel in distress eyes at Miguel. That's not how it works. That's not how any of this works.

That's why I can't get with the "Miguel is a creepy stalker" sentiment because Connie is encouraging the stalking.

I also think that Miguel is a typical nerd whose social skills need improvement. He's much more naive than creepy.

-- Daisynjay: I love your take on Franco. His "tantrums" are going to land him in hot waters for sure and I'll be laughing my head off at him when that happens!
I must clarify a point with regards to my rooting for Eladio. I too would like Julia to build a new life for herself, ALONE. She can do better than these two knuckleheads! However, when it comes to his dealings and macho posturing with Arturo, I'm Team Eladio all the way. When it comes to his dealings with everybody else on this TN (except his showing Franco and Humberto who's boss), he's wicked but sometimes he's deliciously wicked. I'm loving FC in this role, he's gotten very comfortable in Eladio's skin and is delighting us (or at least me) with one of his best performances to date. Granted, he got a meaty role but he made it his own and brought in more layers to what was essentially a two-dimensional. He's the main reason I tune in every night. I've never seen Alejandro Nones (Erick) or Irina Baeva (Daniela) in anything else before but I love what they've done with their respective characters and I'm always eager to see what they're up to.

We're supposed to hate a TN villain because they're baddies who commit bad deeds so the normal reaction to an actor playing a villain is to hate their character. However, a brilliant performance of a villain makes you actually like the character, look forward to seeing them on your screen, enjoy the nuances of their performance, laugh at their twisted sense of humor, find pleasure in their comedic timing and at times even rewind some of their scenes. That's why I and many people loved and lauded the performances of Sergio Sendel and Lucero and the guy who played Dr. Obregón in MEPS; Guillermo García Cantú and Diana Bracho in FELS; Sergio Goyri in STuD; José Elías Moreno in Pasión and AB; César Évora in AB; Leticia Calderón in AB and in ENDA; Humberto Elizondo in Nunca te Olvidaré and the ultimate villain of TN history María Rubio as Catalina Creel in Cuna de Lobos. These baddies stole the limelight in their respective shows because they made the viewer love them, love to hate them and love to tune in every episode to see what they're up to.

-- UA and Anon207: The emotional abuse can compound the feeling of uselessness, except that Julia does have a multitude of exit options that she's refusing to take because she wants to stay in this sham marriage to maintain her level of material comfort and to secure her son's inheritance. Ain't nothing wrong with that. She married Eladio for his money, stuck by him for 25 years for money and will continue to do so until she gets what's coming to her. She is in her right to get her payback for so many years of enduring whatever she and Eladio have going on. However, she can't have her cake and eat it too. If she's staying for the money and rightfully so, she isn't a prisoner. As Anon207 pointed out "Eladio is not her jailer; Julia herself is her jailer."

Cynderella---What a blast of a recap I think says it all. I hope that you are feeling good as ever by New Years Eve.

I can't believe how much abuse these people take and they keep coming back for more.
Gaby gets tossed around like a rag doll. Franco tells her that it's all her own fault and five minutes later it's smoochies. Julia looses her beloved birds because of cruel Eladio and a little later is wearing super nice bedtime wear when Eladio hops into the bed to join her. I keep waiting for her to bash Eladio with a baseball bat when he comes around the corner but all that she does is cry, look fearful and angry and then lets him get in bed with her. Consuelo couldn't be treated any worse by her cave man husband and so she gets down on her knees to beg him for whatever? I know that this is a drama but good grief!

So Franco is turning on Eladio. Will he pay the ultimate price for his disloyalty?

must see tv
the gringo

I wonder if we'll get flashbacks. I would like to see Eladio's reasoning for taking in Franco. Why not let him stay with Gisela? Did Franco and David play together as kids, or was Franco always on the outside looking in?

Niecie- I agree that it was actually right of Francisco not to challenge Erick. It wasn't his business, it would have made it look like he DID have a thing with Connie, and it would have just made the situation worse. But I couldn't resist calling him a wimp. :)

Vivi - Wimp, Chump, and Chimp is sidebar-worthy! Francisco is such a level-headed guy that it's funny that he gets caught in the middle of somebody else's family drama, first with Nina and now with Erick.

-- A quote from the capítulo --

"Y solo para que lo sepas, ya le advertí a tu querido Arturo que no vas a asomar la nariz en mucho tiempo. (...) Estaba muy contento por fastidiarme un negocio, pero cuando le dije que no te iba a volver a ver, qué crees que le pasó? Se le borró la sonrisa! Qué gran noche, no? Y lo que falta!”
Eladio's pillow talk to a scantily clad Julia: "Just so you know, I advised your beloved Arturo that you won't be setting one foot outside in a long time (he actually said that she won't stick her nose out). (...) He was very happy for ruining a business deal of mine but when I told him he wouldn't see you again, what do you think happened? This wiped the smile off his face! Such a great night, isn't it? And there'll be more to come!"

Advertir = to advise, to inform, to warn.

Asomar = to stick out, to show part of something. "Asomar la nariz" means to be nosy, to sick one's nose in other people's business but in this context, what is meant is the literal sense: Julia won't even stick her nose outside the house

Fastidiar = to annoy, to irritate. In this context, to spoil, to ruin.

Borrar = to erase, to wipe off, to delete

Y lo que falta (todavía) = and it's not over yet, and many more to come.

-- Gringo: "Julia loses her beloved birds because of cruel Eladio and a little later is wearing super nice bedtime wear when Eladio hops into the bed to join her. I keep waiting for her to bash Eladio with a baseball bat when he comes around the corner" Hahahaha! She's sending Eladio such mixed signals! You free my birds and act like a jerk, you get all my goodies on display and nicely wrapped in a neat lacey bow! :D

-- Vivi and Niecie: Francisco is a wimp for letting an obnoxious jerk manhandle and insult him AND his female friend/love interest. Chimp Boy pushed Clara, called her "güerita de rancho" and said her house was a "pocilga" (pigpen).

"Güero(a) de rancho" is a belittling, classist and racially-charged insult. He is basically telling her that although she is fair-skinned with European features, she is as poor and destitute as a rural peasant. It follows the racist assumption that people of European descent should have power, money and a certain standing. A similar insult with similar pejorative and reprehensible racist and classist connotations is "güerindio". I believe this insult alone was motive for a punch or at least a shove from Francisco.

Nandicta- True. There were plenty of reasons in that scene to punch Erick, and really, anytime Erick opens his mouth to anyone he provides plenty of reason to punch him. But Francisco going after him then would have only made things worse for everyone, especially Connie. Clara had it covered for herself. I'm sure if it seemed that Clara were truly is physical danger, Francisco would have jumped in.

I have meant to say that it's unusual that the writers have made the two people from the poorest background, the two most blonde characters. I wonder if that was a specific choice?

Cynderella--Your fairy godmother must have waved her magic wand and separated your feeling ill with delivering a top-notch recap. Thank you.

You have all made good points on our very flawed characters. Let me add these random thoughts:

On Franco--He was apparently very good at his job (sin quejas) from Eladio until just recently. I think with Arturo reappearing, the business and personal competition heating up, Eladio is even more ultra-sensitive toward how Franco is handling his job.

Franco, at the same time, is being distracted by Maritina and is falling down on the "job" with Gaby and Eladio. He was hot to trot with Gaby when we first met him. Like some men, the chase is more stimulating than the catch. We aren't sure he was only trying to bed her to get closer to Eladio--he was already Eladio's right hand man (and at such a young age), so Eladio had *some* confidence in his abilities.

Eladio has a habit of putting everyone down to make sure he stays on top, so to Franco, after several years of this treatment, it was nothing new. What changed and may have provoked him to turn towards Arturo was Eladio's giving David the 20% of the enterprise for doing nothing and him nothing for having devoted his entire adult career to Eladio. If he had stopped to think about it before plotting against his padrino, he should have seen the gift of shares was done more to please Julia than anything he felt for David.

On Consuelo--Poor thing. Raised in an orphanage after being exposed to certain behaviors in the bordello, she had no opportunities for normal socialization. I'm sure the nuns were good to all the children, but it's not the same.

Connie transitioned from the bordello to the orphanage to the model's life on the runway, in the public eye. At the same time, she harbored deep desires of having a normal marriage and family. All this time, her public behavior was being reinforced by whoever ran the modeling agency--put yourself out there, swing those hips, smile even if your feet hurt, bat your eyes, push up your bust, give off some glam pheromones, get those men to buy lots of dresses, etc. etc. I think that she was using that on men when off the runway and Erick was the one who became "glam struck." Once Connie tried to become a loving housewife, he lost interest. He's said that to us in the past.

Of course, that does not explain Clara. Or, maybe it does. She never went into modeling, although IMHO, put the two side-by-side and Clara has it over Connie to make it in modeling--not that I would want her to go that route. She went straight for the conventional life--a place to live, a job, friends, someone she's interested in. It's not quite all coming together for her, but she's better off than Consuelo right now.

I also thought the house was Gisela's at the beginning, when one of those early conversations dealt with Gisela telling Clara to come up with her half of the money. It doesn't mean it is *not* Clara's house--Gisela might have been worrying that if Clara didn't have her share, Gisela might lose her place to live. We've heard it alluded to a couple more times that this *is* Clara's house, so I'll go along with that. Gisela certainly makes it sound like she is the boss, but then she goes back to her room. Clara could do with a better roommate.

So many thoughts, so little time.

Nandicta and gringo--I, too did a double take when I saw Julia in that sexy, s&m, come hither night-time teddy and did another double when I saw Eladio slip into her bed. I thought she had barred him from her bed years ago and it was only that brief reunion we were privy to before it all went sour again.

Funny, I was on Team Nina last night. Serves him right. If he won't let her come to him; she's not going to let him come to her. Wonder if that changes tonight.

Tee Hee, I was right about Arturo offering to give Dani a job in the Montenegro offices, but I bet she's not going to like the position he offers. Wonder what Nina will counsel her to do. Swallow her pride and be a good little Mini-Regina for awhile and get in her father's good graces??? But for what? We all know Nina is not in favor of women working. I had to laugh when I thought about it. She accuses Connie of just marrying for money, yet she was encouraging Regina and Dani to catch themselves some millionaires so they would be taken care of.

Thanks, Cynderella. I'm so sorry that you're still sick. Like everyone else here, I hope you get to feeling better really soon. This recap is another wicked gem. In addition to the quotes already mentioned, this really cracked me up:

"He watched her getting tossed all over a room and not in a good way..."

Uniquely Cynderellish.

Humberto continues to amuse me by creepily wheeling in when least expected to share his grandfatherly wisdom.

I thought that Arturo had taken to sleeping in the guest room. I guess Nina's cinched up waist worked it's magic.

Nandicta,

"I'm loving FC in this role, he's gotten very comfortable in Eladio's skin..."

I'm also getting a huge kick at how he has embraced this role. In the first couple of episodes he seemed out of control with his virulence, but he has has managed to maintain the scary as he imbues it with deliciously malevolent humor. As for Arturo, there's still not a lot to like.

I'm also really enjoying the way that Petra has Dani's back.

Carlos

Oh, and Cyn--Hot Francofurter! That one is to die for.

Thanks for the recap Cynderella and I hope you recovery quickly from your sickness.

The comments have been great!! I'm glad others are as disturbed as I am about most of the female characters in this tn. It's just unpleasant to see them acting as doormats. Also someone like Julia needs to do what other adults do when we question our abilities. Ask a friend, what are my strengths? If she can believe what she's told, hopefully she'll get out of that house.

And Vivi, spot on observation about Connie's flirting/damsel in distress. Her behavior is the reason why I'm with UA on Miguel just being socially awkward yet constantly encouraged by Connie.

Anita, you are totally on the money about Franco. After growing up in that house he should certainly have realized that Eladio gave David the shares to impress Julia. He can't be missing how Eladio has abused her all these years. 20% isn't a controlling interest but is probably the largest individual share other than Eladio's.

As for Clara vs. Consuelo, I think Consuelo has a more worldly look than Clara. That may be due in part to what she witnessed in the bordello but it's also partly her features. That's more high fashion that Clara's fresh-faced look.

As to the racist comments, I think in their case both girls were being ranked on for being orphans, as if that were anything to be ashamed of. It goes to the old "Who the hell knows who their parents were?" thing that prejudices some people against the idea of adoption. Was Clara also found in the bordello?

OT: I won a Scrabble game last night and my best word was "bordello" because with double-word score and the placement of all 7 letters it was worth 72 points.

Cynderella,
Thanks for the super recap.

I have not had a chance to read any of the comments, so I don't know if this has been mentioned, but I got the feeling that Connie wanted Miguel to tell her that he loved her as a woman. To me she seemed to be holding out hope that he would declare his love for her. But then she goes and acts like an idiot around her sorry excuse for a husband. I am a bit confused now.

Anyway, thanks Cynderella!

Hasta Pronto...

Urban- Congrats, amiga! Look at how our telenovelas are helping both our Spanish and English vocab. Of course, we know all kinds of words for prostitutes and whores in Spanish. ;-)

I don't think Clara came from the bordello, because in a conversation with Connie some time back they reminisced about when they first met, when Connie was rescued from the bordello and brought to the orphanage (where Clara already was).

AuntyAnn- You and a lot of us are wondering the same thing, though we may not have said it outloud. I certainly thought Connie was fishing for a "te quiero como mujer" and not "amiga/Hermana" from Migues by her facial cues.

If we want to give her some credit, she may have been waiting for either answer....if "mujer" she was going to tell him it can never be and if "amiga" then she could carry on as before.

She may also have been worried about having to see him in a different light--if Miguel answered "mujer," as opposed to "amiga."

If she's worried about Miguel's safety around Erick if he declares himself, it may be another reason for wanting to know. AND--as an aside, she's delusional if she thinks it would make any difference to Erick, one way or another--after what he said as his parting words.
