Antes muerta que Lichita #86 Monday 1/25/16

And the story continues . . . With a little of this and a little of that . . . .

At Icónika, Augusto, as well as Roberto, congratulates Santiago and Alicia. Santiago leaves.Everyone is off to the conference room for a meeting. Chuchette and Néstor are just shocked that Alicia is now with Santiago!!!! Néstor is so shocked he is ready to use the "just shoot me" verb. Fátima just smiles. Through a conversation with his right hand man Félix, we find out that Santiago has a surprise for Alicia after the meeting. Turns out Santiago is concerned that eventhough Allicia told her coworkers she is going out with hm, he really does not know how she feels about him. He is determined to make her forget her ex.

Braulio tells Brisa he and Alicia are going to be roomates.

Announcement at the meeting: Roberto is new president of API. Who will be the next general director of Icónika? Alicia supposes it will be Alex. Augusto makes sure they all know that will never happen. Augusto goes over the requirements for the position. Alicia reminds him that Beatriz will also be deciding. He agrees that Beatriz will have to agree on the choice. He then announces that he himself Augusto will be taking over the position for the time being. He has extra time now he is not involved in API.

At the mansion, Luciana in company of Dafne and Beatriz is waiting to hear if Roberto got the position at API. She goes off to pray in her bedroom. Beatriz actually asks Dafne to excuse her for her recent behavior. She asks for her understanding. Her nerves are destroyed with the divorce and Augusto still in the house. She cannot even get peace saying her rosary. Dafne's mouth is hanging open. Dafne understands all of that but tells her mother that none of that is her fault and that things were going badly even before the divorce. She does not know why Beatriz ever had her if she is not going to love her as she is. Beatriz does not want to talk anymore. Dafne is off to shut herself up in her "lair".

Sandra is talking to a mystery person on the phone who is filling her in on the latest at Icónika. Turns out nothing "the spy" says is something Sandra did not know. The spy is not to call her unless he/she has something really good.

More action at the mansion: Luciana is complaining to Augusto that she is not the general director of Icónika. Beatriz thinks Alex deserves the opportunity. Augusto says he does not have enough experience. Luciana has a great idea!!!! While Augusto is making up his mind, she and Alex can share the general director position!!! Beatriz likes the idea. Luciana even practices saying "STOP" so she can be just like Augusto.

Augusto tells Draco that what really gets to him is that Alicia is going out with Santiago. Well, if he cannot have her for the good times he will use her for the bad times: before he knew Luciana was his daughter, he considered her his "sacrificial lamb" for emergencies. Now he has a substitute "sacrificial lamb" just in case something goes wrong.

Néstor stops by Alicia's office to let her know that if she thinks she is just going to waltz into the general director position she has another thing coming. That position is going to be his. Alicia doubts he could do the job. He accuses her of using her relationship with Santiago to get her that job. Elías comes in, calms them down and changes the topic. Another leak: the Madelén agency has stolen their "little ducky" idea for Matatena toys that Valenzuela was working on. It was printed materials this time. Elías says they better solve the problem before Augusto finds out. He tells the "gossip" Néstor to keep his mouth shut. So Nestor only tells Chuchette that Sandra is the head of Madelén; nothing else. Elías tells Alicia that the head of Madelén is Sandra. She cannot believe it. Elías tells Alicia they have to find out who is leaking the info to Madelén. He thinks it is either Néstor or Chuchette. Alicia agrees and is thinking about how she is going to find out.

Roberto and Gumaro are chatting. Best thing about the API appointment, he will be in a better position to find out things about Augusto. Gumaro sees that Roberto looks down in the dumps. The cause is Alicia but if she is going to be happy with Santiago he wishes her well. Roberto wants Gumaro to stay close to Draco and get all the info he can. Roberto notices that Gumaro is "crazier than a goat" and wants to know what is going on with him. Gumaro won't tell him. He has a sheepish look on his face.

Alicia is spying and sees Néstor talking to the executive from Madelén (the same one Alicia was in contact with) in a restaurant so she presumes Néstor is the leak. She tells Elías who also joins in on the spying. They later agree the spy has to be Néstor. Elías is going to investigate more. They need more evidence. Alicia tells him to be careful so he does not incriminate himself.

In the framework of just telling "jokes" and trying to get info on Augusto: Draco tells Gumaro that Augusto has it in for somebody: he has decided that a woman is going "to pay." Someone who wouldn't go along. Gumaro wants to know more. No luck.

In the boudoir, Luciana tells Roberto that she needs him to support her in her quest to be the general director.

Brisa and Alicia have not had the time to talk. Brisa tells Alicia that she was going to tell her about the breakup with Braulio but she knows that Alicia has been friends longer with Braulio. Sounds like she did not want to put Alicia in the middle.

At the Cafecito, Alicia is visiting her family. Eventhough Alicia is going out with Santiago, she makes sure her parents know she is still going through with her plan to live on her own. She and Braulio are going to be roommates. Nacho is not pleased: Braulio is a man. Santiago comes by. He has a surprise for Alicia: one of these days he is going to take her to see the sunset in the city of lights: Paris. That gets him a kiss.

At the mansion, Alex asks his dad to give his mom some peace by giving her a divorce. Augusto reminds him that the divorce is a matter between Beatriz and him. Alex talks about getting married. Augusto tries to get Beatriz off track with the marriage topic but can't. Beatriz says that she upports Alex as the general director. Looks like he is going to be sharing the position with his cousin--rather SISTER-- Luciana. Beatriz takes a certain joy is emphasizing "sister."

At Icónika: the next meeting: announcement: the general director position will be shared by Alex amd Luciana. Luciana predicts she will end up with the general director position all for herself.

Nacho is still thinking about what to do with his insurance settlement money. He is at a bank talking with an investment advisor who is telling him how they can multiply his money. Nacho is going to have to think about it. Elsa tells Valeria she is afraid Nacho is really going to mess up investing his settlement.

Alicia and Braulio are chatting. She reaffirms her plans to be roommates with Braulio. it is a big step leaving her parents' home: best to be doing it with her best friend.

Roberto is with detective Carmona: He is happy that Roberto got the API position. That will be a good start in getting goods on Augusto. As for Sheila, Roberto has not heard from her but ne suspects must she must be with a criminal just like her.

Another meeting at Icónika new client "Caris" who blinks all the time (they all end up blinking). He wants to do something about self esteem in his campaign and refers them to an internet sensation with a blog: Dafne. They will have to find out about her. Néstor gets a phone call, Alicia excuses herself from the meeting.

Alicia hears Néstor say "Madelén" on the phone. She goes to Augusto and tells him that Sandra is the head of Madelén and she has a good idea who the spy is.

Luciana settles into her office and promises to teach Alex what he needs to know little by little. He says he has learned a few things along the way. He can help her check into the numerous things she has to do.

Gumaro talks to Roberto on the phone via video chat and tells him how he found out Augusto is planning on getting even with a girl who wouldn't play along or something like that. Must be one of his many lovers.

Sheila calls Roberto.

Augusto grills Néstor in his office (With Alicia present) and accuses him of being the spy. Néstor denies that. It is all a plan by Alicia to get rid of him. He meets with the Madelén executive to get info but he never gives any. Icónika is his home. What about Madelén on the phone: it was "Magdalena" his wife. Augusto reminds him she is the the wife they have never met. Nestor will call her right then and there.

In the park waiting for Sheila and Mateo, Roberto is talking again with Gumaro. He hopes Sheila is ready to deal so they can come up with some sort of agreement. Instead a "Vladimir" shows up (must be Sheila's boyfriend). Vladimir is the guy Roberto almost beat to death in jail. Vladimir tells Roberto that he is free now, just like him.

I wonder how long Gumaro is going to be able to hide his relationship with Luciana. It looked like he was almost going to tell Roberto today.

For a second, I thought that things were going to be solved between Dafne and Beatriz. Not quite yet . . . Or maybe never.

"Dafne" the internet sensation. How long before Alicia realizes who that is?

Thanks, Jarifa! I think I'm as annoyed as Alicia that Luci will be her boss. Ugh!

Glad Dafne will be getting public credit for her blog, and that Bea made a tiny step towards showing she's aware of how she treats her daughter. It's so sad that she's lost her only real allies in that house, Rafael and Val.

Thank you again Jarifa!

Yeah, agree, Alicia is nearly right back where she started and in a dead end job. Why stay? I don't understand. Sandra leaves after holding the position and sleeping with Augusto for a decade and it's handed to Augusto's son in law and now to his two kids, non of which know a thing about advertising despite the posturing and bragging. At least Alex admits as much but Roberto and Luciana both believe they are wonder kids. Furthermore, it is clear the owners are at odds fighting a proxy battle for control so either Alex or Luciana will become General Director. Why does Alicia still support Augusto, does she actually believe he will promote her over Luciana because of merit?

No way the monkey in a sportcoat could beat up Vladimir so I'm sure he cheated.

Jarifa, Thank you so for another wonderfully clear and comprehensive recap. I am in the midst of a job crisis, very distracted...and have not been able to sing the praises sufficiently of your own efforts, as well as those of CeCe, Jane, Marta, and all whose insights and often-humorous "takes" are such a help in deciphering this storyline. It is still one of my all-time favorites and I love the cast of characters....a minor exception being Braulio and Brisa who, to me, are so silly they slow things down.

I know Roberto is not a fan fave at the moment...but I am still rooting for him. I keep remembering how he too was orphaned, and had such a rough start in life. Imprisoned through no fault of his own. All of that can set up a deficit that forces desperate measures, one after the other. Subjects him to many, many mis-steps, miscues, and misunderstandings. I know all of this well from a very personal perspective. So whatever constitutes triumphing in the end for this character, I hope it is so. And the actor, to me, continues to be just super.

Of course, I adore Sebastian. And I look forward to him restoring a sense of trust and love in Alicia. Especially looking forward to Paris! But I'm worried about his future well-being. The Anvil? Having Augusto as a declared enemy cannot be good!

Bea's self-absorption and its ongoing shut-out of her own daughter is disgusting, especially since it all wrapped up in her self-fantasy as "a devout." Isn't that supposed to mean you put others first, not yourself? And it certainly would rule out the continuing emotional abuse of her own daughter, who, at heart, is such an intelligent, bright young one. I look forward to Daphne triumphing....especially with her blog becoming such a hit. Giving her a voice, at long last!!!

As for Gumaro, I have to wonder. Yes....the relationship with Luciana has its share of sparks and chemistry. (Although what anyone would see in this character is beyond me....Ingrid's acting chops bringing the character's petulance and narcissism to full view) But for him to keep Roberto in the dark about all of this is a real betrayal. He can't possibly think Roberto would be jealous. Roberto might even find it a help! So, how can he continue to keep Roberto out?

I've a hunch a big turn in the course of Roberto and Luciana's marriage will come about if the legitimacy of it is put into question. And the roots of this may be with how she left things in Argentina. Didn't Gumaro find, and take possession, of Luciana's wedding ring from the wealthy duke (was he a duke?} when Luciana fled to Mexico. Just a hunch. I'm usually wrong about these things....but that discovery, recently, caught my eye.

So a big thanks for all recappers who so splendidly translate and capture the gist of this narrative, and in so doing afford me one of the things I enjoy thinking about at present, especially as, elsewhere in "real" life, things rough-going. Thank you!

Dona Felipe, thank you for your kind words! It was interesting seeing Roberto from your perspective and reminding me of his background again. I had forgotten all about the Solferino ring but cannot remember anymore if Gumaro took it when he found it. Wishing you the best of luck with your job challenges!

Wonderful Jarifa! Enjoyed every word of this fantastic recap.

I missed a lot of the action...

So has Gumaro betrayed Roberto? I hadn't considered it but must admit that he has. I do believe he didn't think Roberto would care but, like it or not (and I don't), Luci IS Roberto's wife. Of course, if he had asked, would Roberto have said, go ahead, have at it? A strange, uncomfortable situation all the way around.

Agree with everyone that Alicia must leave (which I thought long ago). The longer she stays, the more her credibility lessens. She is still being pushed around. Has she really come far?

For a moment, I was as aghast as Daphe, thinking she and her mother might actually be coming to an understanding! And then, hopefulness turned to despair: “She does not know why Beatriz ever had her if she is not going to love her as she is. Beatriz does not want to talk anymore”. I would imagine the core of a being a parent is that you put away your own hurt while you tend to the suffering of your children. Something that Beatriz is sadly incapable of.

Cute moment:” Luciana even practices saying "STOP" so she can be just like Augusto”. Ahh, sadly she needs no practice. She has mastered him quite well.

Dona Felipe, the best of luck to you in your work situation...

Jarifa, thank you so very much.

Diana

Diana, come to think about it, I have not thought about Alicia leaving Icónika for a while now. Needless to say, with the latest appointments, that seems like it would be her best option at this time. It seems like a game of musical chairs. As long as those ads keep cranking out and Icónika is making $$$, guess it does not matter who us in charge. If Alicia left, that might be a $$$ game changer for them. Who knows? I am worried for Alicia since Augusto is going to make her pay for rejecting his advances.

With Alicia's success and makeover I am not as sympathetic. She didn't have options before but does now.

Tofie, you are right about that. She does have options. It would be great for her to have enough self-confidence apart from her professional image to actually be able to leave Icónika and Roberto.

She doesn't need a roommate either but guess that was our glimpse into Alicia not having confidence to strike out on her own. I'm even ok with no Santiago if that meant no Roberto too. Oh well, they already have the set built for Icónika and had the manchild take her virginity. No way to overcome those obstacles.

Thanks for covering for me, I could do your next one cause the antenna pooped back into rain this morning. You're a champ!

Jane, thanks for the offer but I am looking forward to doing Wednesday. I may take you up on your offer if I am out of town some time during this run, though. : )

Great recap!

I think Alicia is playing it smart having a roommate. How many times has she been promoted, demoted, etc.? Who knows what she gets paid now, especially with Luci and Alex taking over. Plus, having a roommate is usually the next step when you leave home.

Wow Santi has it bad for Alicia. With Rob saying he hopes Alicia will be happy, sounds like he has finally given up on thinking he could somehow have her again. Maybe that spells good news for those who don't want to see Alicia and Rob together at the end.

I'm with Dona Felipa. I still have hope for Rob though Santi is making it hard!

Luci's ludicrous belief in her talents drives me up the wall. Augie knows she useless. Everyone knows she's useless. Poor Alex will end up doing all of the work while she twirls in her chair making nasty comments.

Must admit that Nestor's denials sounded truthful. Is it possible neither he nor Chuchette are the traitors? This might sound crazy but when Elias went over to the coffee guy in the middle of Augie's conference, I thought, maybe it is the coffee guy feeding Sandra info? He has access to all departments. Okay, crazy idea.

Super happy to hear the Dafne's blog is gaining so much positive attention!

Thank you Jarifa for filling us in with your great expertise. Did I say great expertise? Yes I did and I mean it.

Tofie---Monkey in a sports coat? Oh, you're getting bad.

Diana and Jarifa---Time for Alicia to leave Iconika? Yes I agree that at this point
it would seem like the best thing to do but there is one big problem with that---The
story is built around Alicia and Iconika. And besides, positions change every week or so over there. It's a good thing that this is a novela because in real life, a company in so much turmoil wouldn't be staying in business for very long. It could be worse but we have to remember that as mean as Luci might be to Alicia, Alicia has been through it before and we need to remember that Alex will be siding with Alicia most of the time.

And then we have Augusto's revenge about to surface---well, I'm staying tuned. I'm not going to miss any of what lies ahead.

A great read Dona Felipe.

Dafne close to stardom? As I said, I'm staying tuned.

must see tv
the gringo

Thanks, Jarifa. I had so many interruptions during this episode that each time I came back for viewing I didn't have the foggiest idea of what was going on.

I'm thinking Nestor is too fraidy cat to be the snitch -- deep down he knows he's lucky to be working there cause he contributes nothing and wouldn't want to mess with his luck. Chuchette sleeps around -- maybe she blabbed during pillowtalk.

A strange, uncomfortable situation all the way around.

Diana, you said it! My guess is somehow Gumaro thinks it's nobler not to tell Roberto because it would make Roberto kind of sleazy to knowingly go along with another guy boinking his wife. This way, Gumaro keeps his BFF innocent.

Late again to the discussion! Still an episode behind despite these snow days we keep getting so thanks for catching me up Jarifa!

I wish I saw Luciana try the "stop" thing....besides that she is very much like her father.

Didn't think Don Augusto would turn on his obsession (Alicia) so fast. I hope she smartens up to his ways soon.

Glad that something good may be coming from Dafne's website and she can seek validation for her efforts in other places since her parents are failing in that regards.

Thanks again!

Can someone tell me what Nestor is saying? I notice a the end of a sentence he sometimes says what sounds to me like "el verbo". Is that what he is saying and what does it mean? Don't notice anyone else saying it.

Needless to say am enjoying Antes Muerta very much and again thank all the splendid work that the wonderful recappers do.

Thanks for stopping by the patio, everybody.

Emerald rose, Néstor has his "schtick" where he reduces everything down to a "verb" that he makes up. Early in this episode he reduced it all to the "just shoot me " verb when he had to deal with the "shocking" idea of Alicia going out with Santiago. It changes all the time. It is supposed to be funny in a Néstor sort of way.

Thank You bunches Jarifa. Always entertaining. I missed last night because of the new / old X-Files, so your recap was much appreciated. But the burning question is::::::
WTF is Alicia doing having Bra...uh whatever his name is, as a roommate? There is only ONE sensible reason, being that she can't afford to live alone, and we know that is not the case. She is probably in the top pay scales in Iconika. Take one the people who works for you of opposite sex as a roommate? Dumber than a box of rocks.

Thank you Jarifa for the explanation. I would have never figured that one out. Have asked several friends and no one knew.

Kirbo: X-Files!!!! I have really enjoyed the first two episodes. Nope, Alicia living with Braulio is not the best decision.

Will I be banned for mentioning something Non-Telenovela? :-)
Yaa I am really looking fwd to next X ep.

Thanks, Jarifa. Not only was this an excellent recap, it was essential since our house had no Univision transmission. Glad to have your summary to keep me current.
