Yo No Creo en los Hombres #120, 1/6/2016: Would They Really Kill BOTH Our Protagonists?

The Old: Ursula talks to the kidnappers and tells them Max has to be in his five senses before he speaks to MD. They wake him with a tequila shower. Leo tells Clara, Doris and Chelito that Claudio is dealing with trying to track down the kidnappers and Max. The doctor tells them Esperanza had a heart attack, and had no trace of any of the medicines she was supposed to be taking to avoid it (too expensive). Now, any stress could cause the big one. Ursula tells Josefa that they will soon be rid of Max AND Claud, but Jo thinks death is too easy for Claud. She wants him alive and suffering for Marta’s death—she wants ALL of them to suffer. Ursula points out that Claud and Marcelo were responsible for putting Marta in jail, but La Abuela was responsible for her death. But not to worry. First they’ll get Abuela to get rid of their MD problem, and then they’ll get rid of her. Marcelo tells Claud he wants a guarantee that his name will be cleared of ALL suspicion before he helps him save Max and MD.

The New:
Ursula tries to calm Dan down after the big reveal that MD and Max are married. She assures him they just did it so that Max can try to get custody of the baby. Then she tells him how Max threatened to charge Ivana with abetting (encubrimiento) if she doesn’t testify. But without an accused (MD) or a defender (Max), then none of that matters. Dan’s ears perk up, and he demands that Ursula NOT kill MD. Ursula backtracks and says it was just a manner of speaking. They’ll just make sure MD stays in jail by having Ivana testify that she was hit and fainted and didn’t really see what happened. They both eye each other warily, neither trusting the other as far as they could throw them.

The kidnappers finally see the call they were expecting (an unknown number). They are correct. It’s a panicked MD calling Max from prison to tell him all about Dan’s visit and demands. The kidnappers have already told Max what to say-- one holds a gun against his head, and the other grabs his hair tight and holds the phone to his ear. After MD painfully recounts what happened with Dan, Max hesitantly spits out the words the kidnappers have given him. Ivana won’t testify. We can’t win the case now. I failed you. I’m sorry, I couldn’t keep my word to get you out of jail. I can’t deal with this with so much else going on. Get another lawyer. MD is so shocked and devastated—she can’t believe what she’s hearing. Max is always the one who can see the bright side. She begs him not to abandon her—she needs him. When the call ends she nearly collapses against a wall, with Nayeli trying to support her. Max loses it and starts shouting and trying to break out of the chair he’s tied to. The kidnapper smacks him around and tells him to shut up. MD remembers happy times when Max declared and showed his love.

Orlando shows up at Espy’s hospital and gives Doris a supportive hug. He knows she also has a lot of problems. But he can’t leave Isela alone, now that Honoria has confessed that Josefa was the one who threw Isela from the balcony. Now he’s going to guard Isela night and day to protect her from Jo. He tells Doris about ALL the things he has to go buy to care for Isela and the baby, before they come home with him. (He’s still considering doing this? Seriously?) He begins to swear his support to her, but Doris tells him not to make any promises (he can’t keep), and sends him on his errands. She’ll call Gerry about getting the insurance money distributed to him ASAP. They hug and kiss, both overwhelmed with the responsibilities they’ve taken on for their adopted family members.

Josefa pretends to be Claud’s secretary and calls Marcelo’s secretary. She lies that Claud wants to have something delivered that needs to keep fresh and needs to be delivered in person, and he needs to know exactly where Marcelo will be tomorrow. Jo writes down the info.

Leo tries to comfort Clara who is completely overwhelmed believing MD won’t get out of jail (since Ivana didn’t testify), her mom is on death’s door, and the expenses for both are mounting.  She’s all alone! Leo says she isn’t alone. She has him, and she still has both of them. It’s something he even realized while being with Claud as they tried to deal with Max’s kidnapping and the police. Although he and Claud aren’t on good terms, he felt relieved to have him there. It would just be the two of them if he lost Max like he lost his mother.

Josefa takes down a framed picture of Marta, puts a black mourning bow on it, and starts to scold Marta for never telling her about what was going on with Marcelo Monterrubio. Her own mother! The one who defended her when she found out about her stepfather raping her. But, nope! Marta just had to go break their promise to only have each other’s back, and to never let another man into their lives. She had to go fall in love like an idiot. For what? Who appreciated her? Marcelo? Isela? At least Isela is now the living dead—trapped in a body that’s a coffin (ataúd). Josefa hopes Isela is conscious so that she can regret every day that she didn’t follow through on their vengeance plan. But Josefa’s going to take charge of that now. She’s the only person who would give her life for her (Marta).

Ursula rips into Marcia for allowing Max and MD to marry and Dan to visit MD with the baby in prison. Marcia tells her she’s got HUNDREDS of prisoners to watch over. Ursula reminds her that MD isn’t just any prisoner, but is the key to Marcia not being exposed and jailed. The head guard reports to Marcia that MD fainted, so she’s sure part one of the plan (Max breaking MD’s heart and spirit) has already been put into motion.

MD has just told Nayeli everything Max said. She thinks he must have just gotten fed up with so much trouble. Nayeli can’t believe it. He must have not been serious. MD says Max is not the kind of man who lies or jokes around about this kind of thing. Nayeli thinks he must have just been feeling down, but the man who married her that morning would NOT be breaking up with her.

Almita has been fed, changed, and put down to sleep, as Ivana and Gerry watch over her. Susana comes in and tells Ivana that MD called her from the prison, but she refused to give her Ivana’s cell number. Susana is convinced that Ivana has no intention of testifying for MD or giving her back her child.

El Baras and El Parejita (aka the Barrio Boys) are hanging out in front of Orlando’s shop, when Aldo rolls up with two of his thug friends. Aldo demands to know where Corina lives. He punches them as his buddies hold them. Baras and Parejita distract Aldo with some convoluted directions, then hit Aldo in the gut and try to escape. But Aldo’s gang catches up with them and eventually force them to take them to Corina’s door. Before she opens, the Barrio Boys yell out to her what’s really going on. The kids don’t want to call the cops or child services. They call their grandpa instead, who seems ready to take responsibility after the last tearful call from Nayeli. Aldo breaks down the door, and a brawl ensues between Aldo, his crew, the Barrio Boys, Corina, and even the two kids jumping on and biting their dad to get him off Corina. A neighbor calls the cops, and ALL of them are hauled away in cuffs. Corina and the little boys try to explain everything to the cops, but Aldo is accusing Corina and the Barrio Boys of kidnapping. Grandpa shows up and says HE gave Corina permission to take the kids, since Aldo was beating them. The cops aren’t really listening, but they do perk up and give chase when Aldo and his boys run away, still in handcuffs.

Doris speaks to Gerry about the insurance, and then sends a message to Ivana. She hopes that God pays Ivana back for all the suffering she is causing MD and her family! Gerry tries to convince Doris that Ivana regrets what she did, and she WILL testify. The hearing isn’t over yet, and in fact they have been trying to contact Max. Doris informs him that Max won’t be answering because he was kidnapped and Espy had a heart attack! Gerry is impactado at all this horrendous news. He wants Doris to assure MD’s family that Ivana WILL testify for MD, and he thinks Ivana can be of help locating Max too. When Gerry tells Ivana, she immediately knows it was the Santibañez. “Right now you WILL call Claudio, and you WILL tell him everything you know, before they kill Max.”

Ivana is unable to reach Claud, and realizes that if something happens to Max, she’ll be responsible for it. “I should have never made deals with the Santibañez!” (Duh!) Gerry tells her that now is not the time for sniveling self-pity (he said it nicer). She’s got to instead focus on what she’s going to do from this moment forward to fix things. First she wants to get in touch with MD and assure her that she was just looking out for her baby’s well-being. And she’d like to ask her if she can visit Almita every now and then. And she wants to help Isela’s baby, because she has the resources to help. Gerry sadly realizes that Ivana has no intention of moving forward with their planned family. Ivana breaks it to him gently. If one day he and his partner have a baby, she will be the best aunt ever to his child. “Just as I can’t take someone else’ child, I can’t form a family in that way, because it’s not my dream.” She tries to return his ring, but he tells her to keep it as a reminder that he’ll always be with her. They share a tender hug.

Espy wakes up with Clara by her side. Her first word is Max and her worry and anxiety is apparent. Clara tries to calm her by telling her that Claud is working on finding Max, and Ivana will testify for MD.

Claudio finally returns Ivana’s many missed calls. He’s not pleased that so many people know about the kidnapping. They are trying to keep it on the down-low, so as not to tip off or tick off the kidnappers. Ivana promises discretion, but also asks for it in return for what she’s going to tell him. If Ursula finds out she told him this, she will yank MD’s baby away and take her to horror house. She tells him the Santibañez are behind the kidnapping.

Claudio is meeting with a group of detectives, including an expert on kidnappings, and Monterrubio. The detectives ask if the kidnappers have contacted Claud yet. “No. I really don’t think that URSULA SANTIBANEZ would call me. Or, would she, Marcelo?” Monterrubio is nearly thrown off his game.  “I don’t know how you found out, but there are many people involved in this, Claudio.” The detective reminds Monterrubio that this is a life or death matter and time is of the essence. “I’m absolutely willing to cooperate with you all…with the law. Only when you’ve made me guarantees, as a witness.”

One of the men, who must be Monterrubio’s lawyer, hands over a document with his demands to an unhappy looking detective. The detective says they’ve already got the info. Claud asks the detectives for protection for his daughter-in-law (nuera) in prison and who is in danger, “according to Marcelo.” Monterrubio is NOT happy that Claud implicated him in anything to do with the prison, but seems to realize Claud is not playing his game anymore.

Chelito tries to give Clara money so that she can rent a cot to sleep next to Espy (that’s how they roll, in the poor people’s hospital). Leo insists Clara accept the money from him. (He had mentioned earlier that he does not yet have access to the money his mother left him, and wishes he could help more.) Claud shows up and shares that there is no news about Max or word from the kidnappers. He tells them all to stay calm, and tells them the detectives and kidnapping experts have requested they keep quiet about the kidnapping and NOT tell any more people about it. Otherwise, they’ll put Max’s life in danger.

Leo and Claud arrive home to a house full of detectives. The phones are tapped and they are ready to listen in and trace any call that comes in from the kidnappers.

Dan busts into Casa Santibañez in a rage, and Ursula reminds him he doesn’t live there anymore. He’s figured out that she plans to kill MD. She wants to know what he promised MD. She knows he has just been waiting for her to turn her back so that he can stab her in it. She reminds him that the little he knows about being devious, he learned from her! “I learned how to be a damned traitor from you! How to be trash!” Ursula calls him an imbecile and slaps him around a bunch of times, reminding him he’d be in jail without her.

MD sits in a cramped corner of her shared group prison cell. She fondles her wedding band, remembers her wedding kiss with Max, and takes out the vows Max handed her that morning when they married. He wrote them for their original church ceremony, and is giving them to her now to read when times get rough. She reads the vows:

“When I met you, you changed my world, because you taught me  not only the true significance of what it is to love, but also what it is to fight and overcome adversities. And now it’s my chance to love you, as no one else has ever loved you, and to make each of your days the most special day. So that little by little, you’ll forget all that has made you cry. And so that when you cry, it will be from happiness.”

MD cries into the letter, and doesn’t see the mystery prisoner with a key to her cell, and with a shiv in her hand, entering the cell and walking straight towards her, until she’s directly in front of her. At the same time, Dan calls the kidnappers and gives them the kill order. The lead kidnapper (Dan’s old cellmate/Rodolfo’s killer/Julian’s and Max’s assailant) picks up his gun, and walks straight towards Max. The lives of both our protagonist hang in the balance!

Well, that was my last official YNCELH recap! It's been a pleasure recapping this for you, since Countx decided to put his school work first and gave up his recapping slot. I can honestly say, I have never seen a tn like this. Despite the heartbreaking storylines, I have enjoyed this high quality telenovela tremendously. Now we just have the finale (the last two hours) to go. I can't believe it.

I'm sure MD and Max will live, but it will take a miracle, God, the Virgin, and all the angels, to save them and deliver them from evil (aka, the Santibanez).

Great work, Vivi.

The sense of entitlement and lack of conscience of Mama Bear and her cub are simply beyond belief. Maleny's suicide was inevitable in this environment. Hosefa and Ursula are really sisters under the skin.

Their actions have had such a domino effect on so many people. It would be cruel on the writers' part to wipe out our protagonists and any more people they care about.

Wow wee Vivi. Thank you.

"They both eye each other warily, neither trusting the other as far as they could throw them"

UA, I was thinking of the comparison between Josefa and Ursula this morning too. Josefa wishes Isela was conscious and in torment and Maleny's tragic life thanks to Ursula. I'm not sure if Ursula wastes energy wishing someone to suffer. If they do as part of a long game she is ok but Ursula prefers a clean dispatch. Josefa wants to feel and get inside the pain, she wants to see it in their eyes. Josefa, sick or wicked, I think the most vile though not the most dangerous but only because she lacks the financial means Usurla does.

"He knows she also has a lot of problems. But he can’t leave Isela alone"
Obviously Orlando cannot hear the words that escape his mouth. If this was a family member or there was no other caregiver option the priority he gives Isela would make sense as well as Doris's decision to support him. The least Orlando could do for Doris is force her to move on without him. It's heartbreaking to watch Doris agree to anything just so she can keep Orlando. I hoped her insecure clinging to unavailable men would end.

"Her first word is Max" Though not a huge fan of Espy, she does care about Max and been unwavering in her trust. Well, all family and friends have consistently supported and trusted Max more than MD.

While I was pleased MD called and told Max everything about Dan's visit (a first), MD didn't even ask how he was doing. I don't think she is wrong in believing what Max said, it sounded pretty convincing. Too bad no one called MD to tell her Max had been kidnapped or ask her if she had heard from him.

This is the whole thing of trying to spare people from bad news. MD can't do a thing about the situation and would have only been worrying left, right, and sideways. I'm not sure if she'd make the leap to thinking that Marcia had anything to do with it, but that would not help her situation. On the other hand, she's had so much garbage happen to her it would be better for her to know because it's easy to make the leap to thinking that Max has abandoned her. She is just as much in danger of death as Esperanza but from a different cause.

There was an TV show years ago in which an undercover cop tells a young boy at risk that if anything were to happen he was to use the word "solid" in their communication. They were kidnapped and the kid was allowed to talk on the phone. That word told the cop's partners that the two were together and they were able to figure out how to rescue them. It sounds here like Max underestimated the danger he was in.

One more thing: I think you're right that Ursula prefers the clean dispatch. Any suffering on the way is only a bonus, but it can also be inconvenient. Better for there not to be living witnesses or others who can somehow enact revenge.

Ursula has never been on the receiving end of revenge before. I suspect most of her past victims (including the ones we've never found out about) were weaker in one way or another. Money is power, so she hasn't been up against anyone with more than she has. If Danny-Boy gets revenge on her that will kill her for sure.

Ursula and Josefa are two different animals. Josefa is a sadist. She wants to see your pain, relish it, roll around and revel in it. Ursula, as mentioned, would much rather kill you cleanly and be done with it so that she can move on. She doesn't spend her time reliving her own pain (as short-lived as it is), and she certainly doesn't want to spend time think about yours. Jo is just the opposite. Can't can't let anything go or move on. Every slight, every bit of pain, is guarded and picked over daily.

I get why no one would suspect that kidnappers would allow/facilitate a call between MD and Max, and why they didn't tell her right away. Now, they'll probably keep quiet since Claud has told them that the police want it hush hush.

Thank you Vivi. I love your recaps and I'm glad we'll be working together on the next one.

What a total downer this was. It seems we going to have everything rushed to finalize everything, I hate when they do that. I'm crossing my fingers that this does have a happy ending, but there definitely is the possibility that we won't.

Viv-superb job on the recap. Thanks!

You also say that there are only two episodes left. Those would happen on Thursday and Friday of this week. Then what about the 2 hour Gran Finale on Monday? Will Friday's episode be repeated? Any other days repeated?

Thanks, GoBlueFan. The only thing we known is that the second hour of the finale will be shown Monday. We have no idea when the first hour of the finale will be shown. Either tonight or tomorrow. What Uni does with the extra night is anyone's guess.

Just to clarify, episode 121, the next 2 episodes, IS the original 2 hour gran final.

The original Mexican broadcast finale ran 101 minutes without commercial breaks. That makes it about 19 minutes longer than average for two television hours.

What this means is one of three possibilities:

1. Each of the last two hours could begin a few minutes before 10PM EST tonight, so set your DVRs/VCRs and cable boxes accordingly. That means fewer commercials (at premium prices for the network) and that last night's episode could be repeated tonight.
2. Univision could edit the 101 minutes into three airings with extra commercials, still at premium prices because of the show's ratings.
3. The finale could be edited, but I doubt this because this series really has no filler scenes.

This is obviously happening because of this series ending in the December/January time period. Saw this once before and hope we don't see it again for a long time.

I wonder what Josefa has in store for Monterrubio? Of course, she wouldn't just sit back and let Ursula take the lead. She wants her own pound of flesh and has her own plans. I don't see her trying to kill Monterrubio, but maybe that's what she plans to do. In any case, now she can add La Abuela to her list of people to take down, and that's one confrontation I really want to see! Maybe throw Marcia into the mix two. La Abuela and Marcia both think they're bada** beyotches, but they haven't met Josefa yet.

Thanks, Vivi. Fine recap. Gerry tells her that now is not the time for sniveling self-pity (he said it nicer). - ha!

I have only loathing for Josefa, but at least her revenge plan grew out of horrible things happening to her -- her husband raping her daughter and her daughter dying in prison.

But Ursula already had all the money she could possibly spend and her son a weak mama's boy just as she liked it, so all her evil-doing is just gratuitous.

I haven't seen the episode yet, but I'm looking forward to the tables turning on Aldo and his crew.

Doris is trying to be a supportive girlfriend to Orlando, but what he really needs is for her to be frank with him. He simply doesn't have the means to do what's needed for Isela.

Got my fingers crossed that tonight MD will realize on her own that something weird must've happened to Max, just as Max did about her when she broke off their engagement to supposedly hook up with Julian.

Hey Niecie! Yes, somebody needs to take Orlando aside and have a frank and very real conversation with him. It doesn't have to be Doris, and it might not be best coming from her. Maybe Padre Juan needs to step in. There is NO WAY Orlando is going to be able to take care of a woman in a vegetative state, AND a newborn baby, AND run a business. Even with a bit of insurance money to help with some of the expenses. It's impossible and someone needs to smack him upside the head with cold hard reality. But perhaps after a day or few of giving it a try, he'll realize on his own.

I have not heard Doris say yet that SHE is going to be part of the equation. They never took up their conversation where he admitted he was going to ask her to marry him, but didn't after Isela's accident because he couldn't ask her to take on that commitment. Doris has not once since then said, yes. I will marry you and help with Isela and the baby. I actually think she's working slowly towards just ending things with him, based on how resigned she's seemed about him being Isela's caretaker.

Doris absolutely should end things with Orlando. It is HIGHLY unfair of Orlando and the neighborhood to expect Doris to be Isela's caretaker, even if Doris & Isela were on good terms.

If Doris accepts Orlando & Isela & Nina as a package deal, she is signaling to Orlando that she is second best & Isela's priorities come over hers. If she's going to be second best, she might as well have stayed with Ari. At least she got to have sexytimes with him.

Gracias Vivi and EVERYONE on the team for this turbulent but enthralling and depthful ride.

OK, so there isn't just a gran final and that's it. There's a YNCELH special; El Origen that was aired a day before the gran final in 2015. I have a link and a brief description of what it's about if anyone's interested.

It could be that Uni shows what I mentioned above (rather unlikely however because they didn't show the special there was for LSdP) or a re-run of last night's capitulo tonight.

-Encaje Rojo

Vivi--Last but not least in heaping praises on you. It was a tense episode and your recap did it justice. You can take a bow.

This novela is so unpredictable that although it would upset me, it wouldn't surprise me to have the two protagonists D.O.A. Probably they will just end up wounded. (I *am* worried about Max--seeing Danny-Boy with tears in his eyes waiting for the shot to be fired doesn't allay my fears.) My those two hospitals have been busy in YoNo.

Encaje Rojo- Thanks for that info! Maybe that's what Uni will show instead of a rerun? Let's cross our fingers.

Anita- I'll hold out hope that both MD and Max will survive, but it does seem that at least one of them will get seriously hurt.

I'm hoping that MD will alert the rest of the women in the cell and they all gang up on the mystery attacker. And I hope that Max is smarter than the goons and will get away. And the cell phone tracker might have tracked their whereabouts too before he pulls the trigger.

So we could have a new episode tonight, then that special on Friday, and the finale on Monday?

I've seen the finale, and I don't know how Uni could edit it down. It could have been three shows. Or four. Or maybe I'm not ready to let these people go (except for some of course).

It was a rough show, but I did have to laugh at Corina bouncing out of the cop car every time the officer turned around. It was like whack-a-mole trying to keep her in there. But good for grandpa, stepping up for the boys!

Kelly

Kelly- That scene was hilarious and I laughed too. It would have worked for Corina to escaped because she wasn't cuffed, but the Barrio Boys were.

Not long now before we find out what Uni decided to give us tonight.

Vivi, I love the way you spin a story. Thank U
For recapping this hard episode. Its on its
Last leg. And so are some of these people.

Ivanna is as full of "IT" as ever. She thinks
Shes homefree with maria d's baby. And now
Shes anglin for little alma. She is a relentless
Heffa. Gerry must love her (why?) are he'd had left by now. and she wants to be the best aunt ever for his and his partners kid? if hes got any sense he won't let her anywhere near his kid.
Is this the last night?

Ok I forgot its 122 episodes. tonite is #121. Why wait until monday for 122. I don't want To see a rerun.and they'll probably put a rerun on if they're gonna let the last one come on Monday night. So........whatever. It'll
Be over in Oooooooo48 hours. However they want to s-t-r-e-h-c-t it.

Wow, this was a tough eppy to watch! Thank you for a great recap ViVi.

Ivana is just really ticking me off and I loathe her more with each episode. All her whining and crying will not make up for what she's done and continues to do. I know Ursula and Josefa are evil, but they own it and make no apologies. Ivana sees herself as such a victim, but she's as bad imo. She wants what she wants and MD be damned she will get that baby. Gerry is wasting valuable air and time on this pathetic idiot. I need Gerry to find a worthy partner and get far away from that vaca!

Daniel is just no match for his mother, no matter how much he gives it to her. He's a sloppy out of control mess and Ursula will eat her young before letting them destroy her and I see Daniel's days numbered. That gun she pointed to Arango may just take out Danny boy if he doesn't start minding his mama!

Poor Max, you could tell it destroyed him to say those things to MD. One thing this galan has been is loyal and faithful and always the tower of strength that MD could cling to. This goes against everything in him.

Doris please get some dignity and tell Orlando adios! It's noble what Orlando wants to do, but not at Doris expense of having the life she dreams of and deserves. I hope Orlando comes to his senses. I know women like her...it doesn't end well.

It's a little too late for me that Claudio wants to do right by his son and DIL. I wouldn't mind him getting shot or killed. Brutal and cold? Yes, but he's always been a cheap low brow chump in my opinion. This would free up MD/Max and Leo from having to pardon him and figure out a way to have holiday dinners with him.

Delilah- Your last part of your comment made me chuckle so hard. Yes, Claud being out of the way would avoid those awkward family dinners...

Well ViVi, every year on Almita's birthday, they will all be reminded of the circumstance she was born under...and who was partly responsible. Her sob grandfather. That's not something that can easily be forgotten. The woman was in prison being beaten and tortured mentally and physically. I know MD is a great person and so is Espy but I don't see Clara being so gracious. I wouldn't.

That SOB would be persona non grata in my house for a looooong time.

I hear that. He'd at the least be exiled to the kitchen or kid's table.

Thank you Vivi for the recap, and all the ones you've done throughout this telenovela. They were all amazing.

I hope Doris gets a good ending, because i'm not so sure Orlando is it for her. With the levels of responsibility he has it just seems unfair for someone like Doris.

I agree with what all the commenters have said about Josefa's and Ursula's characters. I hope they get the worst anvils dropped on them, they are both vile and evil.

Max and MD getting a happy ending is something i hope happens, there should be at least some happiness after all the craziness they have endured.

Elorej

Thanks, Elorej! Indeed, Max and MD deserve a long life of happiness after all the crap they have been through. And Josefa, Ursula, and Dan deserve just the opposite. The world doesn't need them around.

Vivi, thanks so much for this wonderful recap, as have been they all. Look forward to seeing you in EHDLS!!!
