Pasion y Poder #43, A Murder Investigation Starts While Nina and Her Coat Go Shopping in NYC, Wednesday, 01-06-2016

Lo Nuevo

Eladio walks into his home office to find Efrain, the chauffer, waiting for him. He tells Eladio that Julia ordered him take her to La Condessa.

Then we see the aftermath as Aldo cries at the sight of TheRat's lifeless body on top of the smashed car. The authorities have to keep him back. He gives them TheRat's personal information, and adds that he is sure that TheRat was killed.

Erick stumbles into his house.

Julia is in bed when Eladio comes in to drill her about going out. He wants to know where she's been. She tells him she went to look for him at his lover's party. He wants to know why? She wants to know why he was there, since he supposedly was not seeing her anymore.

TheRat is put in a bodybag and rolled away. The authorities tell Aldo that he needs to make his formal statement, plus the cop wants to know why Aldo is saying that she was murdered. Aldo says he will say everything, but the murderer has to pay. PajamaMan comes out to see what's going on. He talks bad about TheRat and Aldo defends her. The cops tell PajamaMan that since he seems to know so much, he also needs to make a statement. Aldo chases after the ambulance with TheRat inside. (It should be noted that there are TV cameras at the scene recording all of this.)

Eladio claims he went to the party because he found out something important and also because there were some clients there. After alot of persisting on Eladio's part, Julia confesses that she went to see TheRat to prove that he was still seeing her.

Connie has locked herself in her bedroom. Erick tells Connie to open the door, but she won't. They argue through the door before Erick walks off.

Eladio thinks Julia went to TheRat's because she is jealous. She claims she does not care who he goes out or sleeps with. She gets into bed and says she wants to forget about everything. She is acting very nervous and guilty. She gets up and tells him that everyday she is less scared of him and that he is going to sleep alone as she goes to sleep in the guestroom.

The next morning at breakfast, Julia comes in to see Eladio, Humberto and Gaby at the table. Gaby reads the paper and announces that TheRat is dead. Eladio looks stunned, Julia looks like the cat that ate the canary.

At Justino's house, Luisita is back from the hospital, along with Clarita and Francisco. Justino goes to give Luisita the meds the doctor prescribed. Clarita tells Francisco that he is her guardian angel. They are about to kiss when Gisela comes in to interrupt, asking what happened with Luisita.

Eladio can't believe what the paper says as he reads the description of the scene. Julia, with a guilty look, gets up and says that she saw TheRat. That she didn't look good and had been drinking alot. Eladio reads from the paper that it seems to have been an accident, but it is being investigated. The police will interrogate everyone that was at the party.

Francisco tells Gisela that Luisita is doing better. Gisela thinks she was just acting spoiled. Clarita wants to know why Gisela is still there when yesterday she told her to leave. Gisela begs Clara to let her stay. She is all alone. Clarita says she will give her some time, but also tells Gisela to try to not make her mad. Gisela gives her a dirty look. Francisco says he needs to go to work. Clarita is upset because he has to work on Saturday. He tells them that Franco got a beat down. Gisela acts concerned. Francisco says that Franco was at the Red Cross, but is now at the Gomez Luna mansion. He has a full load of work now that Franco is gone. Gisela tells Clarita to let him go work.

David gets a call from Fiesta Americana. They need to see him to get him the information he needs for his proposal of the new hotel project. He needs to be in Puerto Vallarta the next day.

In New York, Art and Nina arrive at their hotel. She wants to go shopping.

Back in Mexico, Connie is not feeling well. She is on the phone with the doctor and tells him she is having the same pain as before. Erick comes in wanting a change of clothes. She argues with him saying she isn't well because he tossed her to the ground. Erick doesn't want to hear it. She says she won't forgive him if something happens to her baby because it will be all his fault. During all of this the TV can be heard in the background. As Erick is going into the closet the newsman starts talking about TheRat's death. Connie looks stunned, Erick looks confused. Connie asks Erick if he killed her.

In their New York hotel suite, Nina and Art talk about what they will do on their trip. He needs to work, she wants to spend quality time together.

Eladio tells his lawyer (?) that even though they were both at the party, he needs to find a way so that neither he or Julia are questioned about TheRat's accident. Franco comes into Eladio's home office and offers to help him get out of the mess he's in.

Connie wants to know if Erick killed TheRat because she knows that he went back to the apartment. Erick denies it, saying that Connie is the one with a motive. Connie reminds him that he left her thrown on the street, and even though she hated TheRat, she would never do anything like that. Erick fights back saying "And you think I would?" He starts crying saying he wouldn't kill TheRat because he loves her, and he doesn't care if Connie goes running to Art. Erick storms out of the room.

Franco tells Eladio that he will help him find out who is behind the investigation. It's alot of dirty work and Eladio knows he can do it. Eladio accepts Franco's help, but warns him that this does not guarantee his old job back, or a place back in the house. Franco says he is not doing it for those reasons and he asks nothing in return. (The only thing this scene showed this recapper was that Franco can get out of bed and walk on his own. Hmmm...)

Over at the police station, they are starting to take everyone's statement. Aldo declares that he is sure that TheRat was killed. She was fine, maybe a little drunk and high, but other than that she was fine, and didn't show any signs of suicide. She was beautiful, talented and at the peak of her career, why would she want to kill her self? The cop wants to know who Aldo suspects of murdering TheRat?

Regina and Connie are talking about TheRat and Erick. Regina does not think Erick is capable of murder. Miguel knocks and comes in wanting to know if Connie is OK, because the doctor is there. The doctor comes in and Regina takes Miguel out of the room, telling him that she will explain what is going on.

Petra is singing when Dani comes downstairs and tells her to stop. Petra can smell her hangover from a mile away. Dani asks Petra to make her some chilaquiles with lots of heat. (A hangover standard in Mexico). Petra says she will because she likes her. Dani reads the news on her phone that TheRat is dead. Regina and Miguel come down the stairs and Petra tells them that the police are there. Dani comes into the foyer to see what's going on. The police are looking for Erick and Connie. Petra says that Erick is not there, and Miguel says that Connie is in bad health. The cops say sorry, but we need to talk to her.

The doctor has finished his exam and tells Connie that the baby is fine, but she needs to have absolute bed rest. She does not know how that is possible with all the problems she is having with her husband.

Aldo is outside TheRat's apartment on the phone with his lawyer. He says that he gave a guest list of the party to the police and told them who had a motive to harm TheRat. He told the cops about Erick, Connie and Eladio.

At the Montenegro's, the cops say that TheRat's death was not an accident and they are investigating. Dani loudly interrupts and tells them that they can't accuse her brother because he would never do anything like but, but his wife...and thankfully Miguel stops her and Regina pulls her away. Miguel finishes Dani's statement by saying that nobody in the house would do anything like that. The cops once again say they need to talk with Erick. Regina repeats he is not there. Dani tells them that Erick is innocent because he was with her partying all night. The cops asks if she has proof, and she says no. They tell her that she could go to jail for lying. The cops say they have to search the house to make sure Erick is not there. They want to talk to Connie, but her doctor, who is coming down the stairs, says that they can't. He hopes the cops understand that Connie is under absolute bedrest right now.

Erick is drowning his sorrows at a bar.

The cop returns not having found Erick. The doctor gives the cops some kind of note excusing Connie from making a declaration, for fear of losing her baby. Before leaving, the cops tell them to tell Erick that it's also a crime to run. The doctor tells the family that they need to take care of Connie, then he leaves. Dani goes after Regina telling her that everything is Connie's fault because Erick told her that Connie had ruined his evening. Miguel defends Connie. Dani thinks that Connie killed TheRat. Miguel tells her to shut it and leave Connie in peace.

Franco tells Eladio what he has found out so far. Who has made their statements, and that PajamaMan said there were illegal drugs at the party. Franco tells Eladio that he needs to know absolutely everything that happened. He asks if his name was on the guestlist. He says it wasn't, and he wasn't planning to go, but then he found out something important and had to. He mentions that Erick and Connie were there. When Franco asks if TheRat was with Erick, Eladio says yes just as Julia comes in.

Dani is yelling back at Miguel. She wants to call Art, but Regina stops her. Miguel calls Augustin. Dani is going to keep calling Erick til he answers. Regina and Miguel have to insist that Dani not tell Connie about the police being there.

Julia says sorry to interrupt, but she is not surprised by what is being said about TheRat and her lovers. She leaves. Franco thinks that Eladio can blame Erick for the crime. Eladio needs to talk with Aldo. Meanwhile, Franco will take care of Erick.

Miguel asks Regina about her trip. She says she had to cancel it and goes upstairs to be with Connie. Erick stumbles in and Miguel tells him that the police are looking for him for TheRat's murder. And the worst part Miguel tells him is that they want to interrogate Connie who is on bedrest because of you.

Back in NYC, we get a montage of Nina shopping all over the city. OMG, she finally changed her hairstyle!

Eladio tells Franco that he does not want Julia mentioned in the investigation. Franco asks what Julia was doing there, but Eladio does not answer. Franco goes to make a phone call to press charges? (maybe for his beatdown?)

Julia comes into Eladio's office. He tells her that he won't let anyone question her. She thanks him, but says that if the police want to question her she has nothing to hide. She didn't do anything to TheRat. Eladio thinks it's better that she not be involved. He asks if anyone saw her go in, and she says no. Julia says that Eladio was at the party, but got home after her, which means that he was hanging around her apartment. She wants to know if Eladio killed TheRat. Eladio has an evil smile on his face.

Nina and her coat are in Times Square in NYC. Art eventually joins her in another part of the city and they take a selfie.

Erick and Miguel argue over Connie showing up at the party. The fight gets physical as Dani comes down the stairs to break it up. Miguel says that he needs to let Art know what's going on. Erick doesn't like the idea and wants to hide from the cops. Dani says it's not a good idea because the cops told her it would be worse if he evaded them. Miguel tells him that he has nothing to worry about if he's innocent. Erick says of course he's innocent. He didn't kill TheRat because he loved her. He could care less about Connie. He and Miguel get into a physical fight again.

Eladio laughs off Julia suggestion that he killed TheRat and declares that he is innocent. Julia knows how violent he can get. She wants to know what and where he was after leaving TheRat's place. He claims to have gone to a bar. She wants to know if they fought over Erick Montenegro. He says No. She asks if he was hurt that TheRat traded him in for someone younger. He tells her not to say such stupid things. He says that he has to look elsewhere because she won't give it up. She reminds him that she won't willingly be his. She will testify to the police if they ask her and she will tell them everything she knows. Of course, he says, you want to see me in jail.

Regina comes running down the stairs as Dani is breaking up the fight between Erick and Miguel. Regina tells Erick that he needs to support Connie. Erick has a breakdown saying that he is not well. The woman he loved just died. He doesn't give a rats a** about Connie or the baby. He asks to be left alone and goes upstairs. Regina asks Miguel if he's ok. He says yes. Regina tells him and Dani that Augustin is on his way. Miguel leaves the foyer. Dani complains to Regina that she is always on the wrong side. Regina says she's on the families side, which includes Dani. David arrives and Dani goes and puts her arms around him as if she were claiming him as hers.

Julia says that she doesn't want Eladio in trouble with the cops. And even though they don't get along, he is her baby daddy and she wouldn't want it affecting her son because he is a young child. She doesn't want David finding out that Eladio had a lover because that might affect David's relationship with Eladio. WTH?!?! Julia suggests that Eladio find another lover to console him. The only thing she wants is for him to swear that he had nothing to do with TheRat's murder. He swears he is innocent and says he will keep Julia out of it. She says he should have thought about it before getting involved with a woman like TheRat. Julia storms out of the office, then Eladio leaves.

David has a bit of trouble prying Dani's claws off of him. David tells her that there is no need for her to be so touchy. She says it didn't bother him before. And he explains, BEFORE. He reminds her that he is there for Regina because she is the woman he loves and excuses himself. Regina and him hug and Dani says that they are boring. She heads upstairs, but you can tell she is affected by David and Regina's loving display as a tear rolls down her cheek. Regina thanks David for giving her her place. He says he will always do that. She sits him down to fill him in on what's going on.

In NYC, Art and Nina have drink and kisses.

Meanwhile, back in El D.F., Aldo is having a drink alone until Eladio shows up. He warns Aldo that it could go really bad for him if he involves Eladio in TheRat's murder. Aldo doesn't know what to think, but knows that someone has to pay. Eladio threatens Aldo and tells him that the only guilty person is Erick. He pays Aldo off and leaves. Aldo hopes that Eladio never finds out what he said (about Eladio) at the police station.

Franco is talking to some guy outside the house and totally putting the blame for TheRat's murder on Erick. The guy says he doesn't know if Erick is guilty because he is still investigating. He has a change of heart and claims that Erick is guilty after Franco hands him an envelope full of cash. I am guessing this guy was either a dirty cop or dirty journalist. Either way, the guy leaves.

Gisela shows up as Franco is about to enter the house. He tells her to leave because Eladio won't like it that she came to bother him at his home. She says she is there to see him, not Eladio. Gisela tells Franco that they have been lying to him his whole life because his parents are not dead.

Most excellent AuntyAnn!

“Nina and her coat go shopping” and “Petra can smell her hangover from a mile away” were fantastic.

What a wonderfully detailed summary.

I still think Eladio or his henchie killed Montse but it is fun speculating!

To me, Dani was simply a spoiled, obnoxious brat not worthy of too much comment. But “Dani loudly interrupts and tells them that they can't accuse her brother because he would never do anything like but, but his wife…” Ummm, really Dani? We knew you didn’t care about hurting your sister but throwing your SIL under the bus without any reason was cringeworthy.

And Erick? “The woman he loved just died. He doesn't give a rats a** about Connie or the baby”. Scum.

“Gisela tells Franco that they have been lying to him his whole life because his parents are not dead”. So, Gisela’s existence in this TN finally has a basis. Wham!

I wasn't sure I was going to be able to stick with this. Now, I can't look away.

Thanks again!

Diana

What a contrast between Arturo and Nina tripping the light fantastic as opposed to the shock, awe and disbelief over Montse's "passing".

I think Arturo should just stick with Nina.

Diana

Thanks AuntyAnn. This was a fantastic recap of an interesting episode. Everyone had their moments of looking guilty, but Erick is the only suspect I'm now 99% sure didn't do it. PajamaGuy is still number one on my list.

Nina looked like some kind of warrior goddess next to the schlubby Americans in NYC. Good for her and Art. They looked happy. Too bad the drama of the Rat's murder will put an end to their little honeymoon.

Gracias, AuntyAnn.

Gisela will soon spill the beans to Franco because Caridad will be hot on his trail. Now that Caridad caught her disposing of a letter she was supposed to forward to him she is undoubtedly thinking how many others he didn't get. All of them. She is so not going to like the truth.

Neither will Franco.

Yes, Franco can walk around but I think he is still in pain. He also has one eye swollen shut for the moment. Not a good candidate to kill a woman who is taller than he is and able to fight back.

Erick needs to disappear off our screens. He is contemptible.

Daniela is despicable, too. In the same episode she makes a play for Regina's man and tries to throw Consuelo under the bus. She previously dated David but you know what, Dani? Turnabout is fair.

I didn't expect the Rat to leave the story so soon but I'm glad. Her slutty clothes and hairstyle were getting on my last nerve.

More later.

Hi AuntieAnn,

I am so glad you wrote this because I fell asleep right after Connie asked Erick if he did it.

The driver bought Connie home in a black car, but she jumped in a white SUV and drove herself off. Where did she go? I think that she knows who killed the Ratt. She didn't look concerned like the rest of them. She looked like she did it. I don't think she could have, but that's the vibe I was getting.

Great AuntyAnn

I don't think Eladio did it 'cause its too obvious. I don't think Erick did it 'cause he loved her, even though he is a gilipollas. Of course Connie & Julia are incapable.
Who done it?

Did Franco know her?

Variopinta- Yes, Franco knew her, and had gone to her apartment previously to try to forge an alliance behind Eladio's back.

¡Vaya! A murder, a whodunnit, a frame-up and one big secret crumbling! The plot thickens and you did this eventful episode justice, AuntyAnn. Many thanks indeed! :)

Gisela’s big reveal at the end was unexpected. I thought she would dance around the issue as usual to squeeze some money out of Franco. She must be very drunk or very desperate.

Erick’s expressions when he heard Montse died were pure comedy gold! How does the actor manage to pull those faces? I will say this though, he was shocked and devastated! I'm now more convinced that it can't be him or Eladio that killed Montse but it's obvious they are the ones most likely to get into trouble over it.

Julia did look "like the cat that ate the canary" but there was something else that confused me about her attitude in this episode. Was she acting a little jealous or am I imagining things? She made way too much of a deal about Montserrat’s relationship with Eladio, both during their scene in their bedroom at night (before finding out Montse died) and in the study the next day? What's with the reproaches, the taunting and the grabbing him by the lapels… What does she care whether he comes or goes? What does she care about the love (sex) life she denies him? Shouldn't she be happy to have someone else get her supposedly odious husband out of her house and off her back? I don't get this woman! As Carlos said yesterday, maybe a couple of days in the slammer will straighten her out and clear her befuddled brain.

I don't know about you but I was traumatized by the hideousness of Nina's Nueva York attire, especially the space suit with the patchwork coat and Michael Jackson gloves she wore during her shopping spree!

Fab recap!! I'm finally catching up and saw last night's episode.

Connie was pretty tiger mama and cold last night. I can see her doing it and pinning it on Erick, killing two birds with one stone. If Erick goes to prison, she gets to keep the Montenegro name and stay with the family, with all of the money and perks for her and the child. She is seen as the blameless victim.

Erick was pretty broken up but I still see him as a suspect. I'm wondering if he killed Montse and now is drunk with guilt and pain.

I don't think Eladio did it but Callao could have done it on his own, thinking he was helping Eladio.

Nina and Art looked like they were having a great time. Maybe he should stay with her. She is a greedy person but not necessarily bad person.

Must say the actor playing Erick makes a great drunk. Also, Eladio's expression during the bedroom scene with Julia, after she walked out, was one of pure confusion. Like "what just happened here?"

Look at the way she has treated her stepson his whole life. She IS an awful person, but Art seems to have a good time with her (and never seemed to care about Miguel), so why not stay with her? Try to make it work.

Nandicta- Don't get me wrong. The coat and dress were hideous...on any mortal. But Nina was totally pulling it off. And why not try a different look when in a different country, city, and climate? Would we really expect Nina to wrap her assets in a drab black coat?

Here's what we know:

Whoever killed Ratt was known & familiar to her, by her usage of Tu? No, no, no...don't hurt me.

Eladio came home after Julia.

Erick came home after Consuelo.

Franco can get up and move around.

We don't know how much time elapsed between Tu? No no no and Ratt's final flight

I think I heard the police or the news say Ratt fell between 4 & 5 am.

Eladio came home after Julia.

Erick came home after Consuelo.

Thoughts:

I was going to say that Connie would need to be at Ratt's Nest to know that Erick went back to the nest; HOWEVER, Erick didn't come home until after Connie came home the 2nd time; Connie could've assumed that he spent the night with Ratt.

I don't think Connie or Erick did it; but Connie is going to use this situation to blackmail Erick into staying with her.

Franco could've done it to get rid of Ratt & Erick in one fell swoop.

Nina looked very pretty in NYC.

Perhaps Nina & Art should move to NYC on a permanent basis & leave the problems & ghosts of Mexico City behind.

-- Carvivlie: "I don't think Eladio did it but Callao could have done it on his own, thinking he was helping Eladio." That's a great supposition actually. Reminds me of Silvano, Manuel's right-hand man in "Amor Real". He shot Manuel's rival to stop him from getting to the duel, thinking this was the best way to protect his friend / employer.

I liked Nina's dress and gloves. I did not like the coat.

Vivi, you are right, she has treated Miguel abominably. Forgot about that, now that she is being civil with him.

-- Vivi and Anon207: Marlene Favela (Nina) woud look gorgeous in anything, still, it doesn't stop me from doing a double take, throwing up my hands in frustration and asking "Why? Why are they doing this to one of the most beautiful women that walked this earth?"

Thank you, Aunty Ann. I loved the title. I have no clue who shoved Mony over the balcony.

Nandicta..Yes, Sylvano shot AdolfoSolis (Manuel always said both first and last names as if it was one name!! I always got a kick out of that .)

-- Susanlynn: I too used to get a kick out of the way Manuel said AdolfoSolis in one go! I noticed in many TNs that characters tend to address or mention the people they despise using their full names! Arturo and Eladio do it here as well, sometimes. They pronounce their respective rival's name with such disdain, it's so kitsch, I love it! :D

Callao could have done this on his own initiative, but if so that would have been immensely foolish. While Eladio was fairly careful there was the possibility that someone other than Aldo could have heard what was going on behind the closed bedroom door. It would be very easy to assume that Eladio did it himself.

Which I doubt because it's too risky.

The neighbor in PJs is too old. He is also uninterested in scandal.

I strongly doubt Julia did this because she would have gained nothing and lost the possibility of the Rat testifying at a divorce trial. Her behavior was strange in this episode, though.

As to that patchwork coat, only a woman of MF's height and coloring can get away with it.

Great one Aunty Ann, thanks

"Erick is drowning his sorrows at a bar" Silly me, I thought this was so funny, Chimp Boy had a bad day.

"OMG, she finally changed her hairstyle!" And I loved it and her outfit, it was so Nina but new packaging, Art better watch it or he might lose her to some young hot stud.

Art and Nina are a perfect couple and why their marriage has endured. What Nina doesn't need is a broken girl who's marriage is on the rocks with daddy issues sniffing around her man.

I love Daniela but she went full juvenile embracing David and if she continues a glutton for rejection. I agree David would have been good for her but she realized that too late, so sorry, move on. Her tears were real so perhaps her first broken heart.

Don't like Connie at all but hope she didn't kill Ratt. If anyone, kill Chimp Boy, the real cause of her humiliation.

Please don't close up shop. Even if it is just 3 of the 4 Univison shows please don't quit.

Please don't close up shop. Even if it is just 3 of the 4 Univison shows please don't quit.

Thank you, AuntyAnn! This is just excellent, as always!

I love the extra-strength plot-thickener the writers are using. They should share it with all their colleagues at Televisa, don't you think?

Can't wait to see what happens next.

Julia surprised me & Eladio by grabbing his lapels.

Hopefully this story will be about Julia gaining her own personal strength & not needing Eladio OR Arturo to do it.

I thought Nina's dress was cute, especially paired with the black gloves & boots and her hair in a chignon. The coat was hideous. It was hilarious the way she kept marching in and out of various stores with the same serious expression on her face.

Is the Sheraton considered high -end? I would've expected a fancier hotel for the CEO of Grupo Montenegro to stay in* other than the Sheraton. Perhaps Arturo should open up a chain of high end hotels in the US?

Their room looked nice; it appeared to be a 2 story suite.

Good Gracious, AuntyAnn--What an episode to keep straight all the precise comings and goings of the key players and still deliver a rollicking good recap. Thank you for the map through the maze.

I did so enjoy your little sidelights--"OMG, she finally changed her hairstyle!" CARLOS will be happy. She did look lovely, even though her coat didn't. She was being loving and wifely, but that still doesn't get her off the suspect list for many of us.

Who is NOT guilty?
Petra - Well, she was out with the garbage guy, but I don't think they harbor any violent feelings towards the Ratt
Dani - she was party-girl central, dancing on the bar and the tables. She was too drunk to care about anyone else
Agustin - He was home in bed dreaming of Gaby
Artie - He was with Nina up until she went to pack and he went to the office, then he started daydreaming of Julia
David - He was at Francisco's place on the sofa, but not watching TV
Regina - She was at Francisco's place on the sofa, under David, not watching TV
Gaby - Did she stay by Franco's side all night? We don't know for sure, but she was upset when Julia left to confront the Ratt; she did NOT volunteer to go with her and I don't think she followed her
Hummy - He was just absent from the scene; given his circumstances, I don't think he was UP to it, unless the apartment house had an elevator--it looked like a 3-4 story walk-up, nice one, though
(OT--I caught some early scenes of Lazos de Amor and Luis Bayardo is in it. He still has his sandy brown hair and is quite handsome as a younger man in control of all his faculties.)

That leaves a long list of possible suspects.
Diana (not a suspect)-- I agree about 75% with you. The way people throw around their pinky swears in telenovelas that they didn't do something and they did makes me suspect him. He could have kept his hands clean (and maybe his conscience) by having Callao toss the Ratt over the balcony. Then his swear would be true.

Cynderella (not a suspect)-- "She [Connie] looked like she did it. I don't think she could have, but that's the vibe I was getting." I would agree with you there, had the Ratt not been so sloshed she could hardly stand up. It might have been simple to lead her over to the balcony and give her a leg up. I don't think she could, if we are to believe seeing her holding her belly after Chimp-Boy threw her to the ground. Where did she go in the white SUV? Not to the Cruz Roja.

I dearly desire this to be a real murder mystery. It would be such a let down to find out that who ever was at the door scared her into throwing herself off the balcony--although technically, the Mysterious TU, precipitated her action.

Who was the Ratt afraid of?
Not Pajama Man
Not Aldo
Not any of the party-goers
Connie - yes
Franco - yes
Eladio - yes
Callao - yes (but would she have addressed him as TU?)
Erick - probably not--she was just disgusted with him at the point he left the party so I don't think she would have been afraid of him if he showed up again
Julia - hmmm, that's one to ponder because Julia's ire was clear when she left, essentially washing her hands of the Ratt as she left--threatening to ruin what little career she had left

And what do drugs have to do with the price of eggs? We've not had that element introduced before.

-- Anita: Loved your "Who's not guilty?" list but I'm not completely ruling out Julia as a suspect. Her crazed look in these last two episodes is starting to give me the willies. I can't decide whether she's growing a backbone (in which case, I'm glad, good on her!) or whether she's losing her marbles.

I think the drug element was introduced to show that it was a wild party...Ratt could've been high and fell off the balcony.

Eladio & Co. could easily persuade the right people to classify this as either an accident (drunk & high, fell off the balcony) or a suicide (she had attenpted it at least once, if not twice before).

My Not a Suspect List:

Miguel (she wouldn't have addressed him as Tu)

Dani (too drunk & wouldn't care)

Nina (trying to get Nookie from Art & packing for NYC honeymoon)

Julia (needed Ratt alive to get out of her marriage)

Gaby: too busy worrying about Franco

My Could Be a Suspect List:

Eladio: Mad about being tricked & betrayed

Callao: has been chomping at the bit to kill Ratt for a while now

Erick: could've realized Ratt was taking him for a ride & killed her in a jealous rage; went back to the apartment

Consuelo: mad about Ratt sleeping with her husband; left the house to go to places unknown; immediately accused/blamed Erick for the murder

Franco: could've killed Ratt to a) get back in Eladio's good graces; b) frame Erick; c) keep Julia married to Eladio

Carlos (from yesterday). You see the good in the bad and the bad in the good. This TN does seem to have more "likeable" villains and unlikeable protaganists. I actually like Dani the best of all the characters. Well, Dani and Auggie. One "bad", one "good".

Agree, Julia is wild eyed, even threatening Ratt's career, same as Eladio. I can see Julia returning to sweeten the deal or beg for help, Ratt rebuff her, and Julia back her toward the balcony. Julia is desperately dangerous bordering on batshit crazy and mad as hell. She shut down daddy the other night, looming over his chair and the dude wisely zipped it.

Nandicta--I didn't rule out Julia in my Not Guilty list (I guess I should have said Suspects). She does not appear there. Where she does appear is in the Who the Ratt was afraid of. Julia comes in last. It would be idiotic for her to be the actual guilty person, but she might have come back and contributed to the Ratt's end. The fact that she looks so guilty or trying to hide something, is either a verra red herring or she knows something.

Loving all the comments and speculation.

Anita, I smiled reading your entire comment. A sparkling gem!

Diana

Yeah, what tofie said!

Thanks AuntyAnn. I loved the recap. Quick read with lots of detail.

I think Nina rocked her NYC look.

I thought to myself when Dani threw herself at David "No. You. Did. Not. Just. Go. There." What did she say to him when she flung herself at him? I'm really growing quite fond of this character.

Carvivlie: I thought the same thing about Callao, but then decided he wouldn't do something behind Eladio's back. But . . . .

Montserrat looked spooked at the person from the beginning (at least in the repeat last night--I haven't watched the ep that had the actually scene). So it seems to me, it has to be someone who she was already afraid of.

Nanette

-- A quote from the capítulo --

“Como sabes, hay muchísimos testigos que pueden corroborar que Erick Montenegro sí estaba en esa fiesta y de lo enorme que se armó con la mujer. (...) Yo estoy segurísimo que fue él quien la aventó por el balcón; solamente es cuestión de que las autoridades investiguen y de que tú apoyes esta versión, por supuesto.”

Franco briefing his press contact, apparently this guy is the only influential periodista in Mexico City: “As you know, there are many witnesses who can corroborate that Erick Montenegro was indeed at that party and that he and the woman caused a huge scene. (...) I am certain that he was the one to throw her over the balcony; it’s only a matter of the authorities investigating and you supporting this version, of course.”

Testigo = a witness.

Corroborar = to confirm, to corroborate.

Armarse (un lío / un alboroto / un escándalo) = When trouble / a commotion / a scandal is started.

Aventar = to throw, to toss.

Apoyar = to support, to back, to stand by.

We suggested so many different scenarios and probable culprits since yesterday but did somebody mention the possibility that whoever Montse was scared of as she backed away into her terrace could well be a "Blast from The Rat's Past"? She's such a sleazy character she's bound to have hung out with some choice slimeballs in her day. She also has a persistent tendency to antagonize the wrong people, so...

Nandicita, I'm betting it's either Erick, Callao, Miguel, Connie or someone in Montserrat's past!

Nandicta: I also thought it might be someone from her past. Not sure I like that solution, though.

Thanks for the daily lessons. I'm saying the quotes out loud to practice my pronounciation.

-- Steve and Nanette: I'm starting to lean more towards the possibility that somebody that Montse wronged in the past has come back to get his/her payback. Of course, it would be more fun if the murderer is someone we already know, but I won't be mad at the writers if it turns out Montse has died accidentally (contemplating suicide and/or losing her balance in her heavily drunk/drugged up state) or if someone from her past killed her. I won't think it's a cop-out because the important thing for me is having a bunch of PyP characters get into trouble, be suspected, get investigated and possibly even go to jail over this. I'm also loving all the lying, accusations, plotting and counter-plotting going on right now: Eladio trying to keep Julia out of the investigation, Julia accusing Eladio, Franco trying to frame Chimp Boy for the murder, Consuelo possibly testifying that her no-good hubby returned to his lover's flat after the fight, Daniela giving her brother a fake alibi which will surely come back and bite him in his monkey derrière… This is soooo much fun!

As for the vocab, you're very welcome, Nanette! I'm glad you find it useful. I get to practice my spelling and memorize more words this way. Win-win! :)

Because Montse said "Tu" it's someone familiar with her & because she looked scared to see them, it was someone she was already afraid of.

Of the current suspects, that would be either Eladio, Callao or Erick.

Eladio wouldn't have wasted his time personally killing Ratt; he would've had Callao do it.

Ratt wouldn't have address Callao as "Tu"

If Erick had a look of rage on his face, it could've been him. Ratt could've been like "You? Not you too! Don't hurt me."

Ratt would've responded to Consuelo with contempt, not fear.

Ratt would've responded to Julia as Usted; I don't know if she would've been afraid of her.

Ratt knew Franco & his face is currently scary; I can see Franco entering the apartment & Ratt being scared of his face & thinking Eladio sent Franco to kill her.

More and more I'm thinking Connie did it. Pregnancy hormones, humiliation, need for revenge against those that have hurt her, protecting her child...and where did she go the second time she left home? And I can totally see Miguel trying to take the fall for her.

Nandicta, I was on the phone when I just updated this to see the latest comments. Your point about drugs and alcohol was my latest thought. The Rat has a history of combining the two and this could have been an accident as the result of an overdose, like Tania on MIVAC.

But it will be another episode or two before we know.

The writers can go one of three ways with the Montserrat death story and all three ways would make sense:

Montserrat was a dumb greedy ho; it would be easy to think somebody would want to off her.

Montserrat was partying heavily & her friend told the police, sure she had been drunk & high but... It's very plausible this was an accidental fall. The police would probably think it was an accidental fall except Aldo kept claiming somebody killed her.

or

Montserrat committed suicide. She had been in the hospital several episodes ago just for that reason.

During the party, a waiter or guest could be seen carrying a tray with drugs/pills. There were definitely drugs consumed openly at that party.

True. She could have been faking again, misjudged the dosage, and lost consciousness just before falling. However, shouldn't the rail on a balcony be high enough to prevent that?

Good chance it will be ruled an accident because of all of the pills and alcohol in her system, along with not enough proof of homicide. Truth probably won't come out until the very end of the TN.

Thanks for this excellent recap, AuntyAnn. Very well done.

"Julia looks like the cat that ate the canary."

Doesn't she though? More and more I'm beginning to believe this lady is 4 plus crazy.

I think I most enjoyed little Dani in this episode. I guess someone watched over her after we last so her in a rather incapacitated vulnerable state last night. Some of Petra's (she really does genuinely like Dani) chilaquiles with lots of heat apparently did the trick. Her ambush of David (that's our Dani... even Regina seemed amused) was hilarious and I loved how she came to Erick's defense and eagerly wanted to pin the murder on poor Coni (what a scamp).

Nina was stunning, so beautifully elegant even if her coat may not have been the best choice. She and Arturo make such a handsome couple.

UA,

Did you recognize the locations of the scenes in New York? Did you by chance know that they were filming there at the time?

Miguel is such a cipher that I suspect that one might automatically address him as tu. Nevertheless I'm sticking with Crazy Julia as my prime suspect.

Anon207,

"Callao: has been chomping at the bit to kill Ratt for a while now"

He really has, hasn't he?

Carlos

Carlos,

I live in NYC and if I had known they were in town shooting I totally would have tried stalking them. Love JS

A great recap AuntyAnn---I hope that it's not your last one. After reading today's very sad post by Jane, I'm very concerned.

Ok, on with the show. A question---How did Caridad find out that Gisela threw her letter away? Caridad didn't see her do it.

Urban---I admit that I love and enjoy reading both your recaps and comments but cannot agree with you on your description of the Rat Montse. I find her look stunning, especially her seductive pose in the opening credits. I fall for that hairstyle every time. I don't know why, I just do. When I see her opening pose, it reminds me of Catherine Zeta Jones in the Chicago movie poster. That 1920's look.

Like yesterday, the whodunit comments today are great but I think that it is just a little too early to nail this one down. The Rat is dead we now know for sure. I saw another novela where someone went over a balcony, landed on top of a car, was badly hurt but didn't die. It might be a while before some clues start to emerge.

The nose in the air bruja tried her best to deplete the Montenegro fortune shopping
in all of the best places last night.
Her patchwork quilt coat brought many comments today. I did a double--triple look last night but couldn't decide yes or no and so I remained neutral. I will add though that she really stood out in the crowd. No one even came close to matching her. Maybe that what the writers had intended.

Nandicta---One of the most beautiful women that ever walked the earth. Say what? pretty yes but that's a stretch.

The whodunit mystery continues.

gringo,

"How did Caridad find out that Gisela threw her letter away? Caridad didn't see her do it."

I've been meaning to ask the same thing. I figured I must have missed a scene somehow. I recall the camera lingering ominously on that trash bucket but I don't recall seeing anyone retrieve the letter.

And yes, Nina is unquestionably "One of the most beautiful women that ever walked the earth."

Carlos

Carlos and Gringo- I believe Caridad said a prison worker retrieved it from the trash and gave it back to her when they saw her name on it.

I don't think Julia did it due to the most reasonable analysis, Art & Julia will have a wedding in the last capitulo, although she could be accused.

Oh Carlos---I know that you mean well but you so disappoint me at times. Is there some strange substance in the water down there in Texas? Of course Dani lied to stick up for Erick last night. You wouldn't expect anything less. Or to put it another way---The rat Dani stuck up for the rat Erick. Don't they say that birds of a feather flock together? guess that the same applies to rats.

Ok--Ok--Give credit where credit is due. The actor playing Erick could have won an Oscar last night. He has been knocking his role out of the park lately.

the gringo

Thanks Vivi,

A lot of time must not have been spent on that scene and I'll bet it happened on a bad CC day. What was Caridad's reaction and does Gisela know about it?

Carlos

Carlos- I was like a minute-long scene between Caridad and Gisela and Caridad told her never to come back. We never saw the person rescue the letter, just heard Caridad mention it.

Thanks, AuntyAnn. Fine recap.

The camera shots of Nina strolling NYC lasted so long that I thought she was going to run into someone she knew and we'd find out more about her past. But nope, the woman just loves to shop.

One thing I like about Erick is that he's not holding Consuelo against her will. Now everybody in the family knows he loved Montserrat and that Consuelo and the baby can take a hike. Consuelo or Erick needs to move out of their bedroom though. I guess he should since she's the one that gets the most visitors there.

Kudos to Franco for thinking on his feet and using his beatdown and Montserrat's balcony dive to get back in with his padrino.

Carlos, most of the locations in those scenes are Midtown West in the 50s. The Hilton Hotel is where some friends of mine work on an annual journalism event. One of my past offices was near that "LOVE" sign.

Checking back--whew, 55 comments and it's only Thursday. Yes, shamefaced, I must admit to counting Miguel as a ZERO. I didn't mention him in either my Not Guilty and Who is Ratt afraid of. He very definitely is a candidate. He would do anything for Connie.....but....eliminating the Ratt would not necessarily have the right outcome--as we saw last night. If he really wanted to do something drastic for her, it would be to eliminate Erick.

OTOH, maybe Miguel hopes the deed is pinned on Erick and he goes down for it. Still Miguel couldn't guarantee that outcome either. How would Miguel know where Erick was late last night. Erick might have a solid alibi (but after all that drinking and crying, he probably doesn't). Anyway the Ratt's unseemly death has certainly sparked speculation.

gringo: Are you thinking of Javier (el Dragon) in Reina not dying after a similar fall? I mentioned that yesterday. But, after seeing Montse zipped up in the rubber bag, it was a fair confirmation that she was done for.

Nandicta et al, I'm kind of leaning toward some unknown now, like some drug dealer she owed money to or someone to whom she owed a big favor. It would keep all our characters clean, but what a romp we've had.

Thank you AuntyAnn!! Well done!

Now I am looking forward to watching this TN as it becomes more interesting. It was touch and go with me for awhile, the only redeeming features being the great cast.

Nina's outfit was certainly striking. With the taxis lined up in the background I though she must be an ad for Yellow Cab. Her hair looked very chic instead of folksy.

I agree with some of you who think the culprit is someone from her past and have thought so all along. That will take everyone down a winding path.

I don't get why Eladio is so cold to Franco and doesn't give him his job back. I didn't think his not following orders was that big of a deal considering what it was.

Do think FC is handling his role very well and seems more "comfortable" in it now.
Also, has anyone noticed the great artistic way FC ties his tie? I really like it.

gringo and Anita,

Wasn't the beautiful and beloved Irma (HeFdM) pushed off a balcony landing on top of a car? She survived and was rendered paralyzed and amnesic for awhile (though there were some here who doubted the extent of her injuries). By the way, was that the car that Eladio gave her that Montse landed on?

Carlos

AuntyAnn thank you what a fabulous recap, much appreciated!

Wow the plot thickens. I loved seeing the reactions of all the players as word of La ratas death moved through news. I found Aldo's reaction very over the top and after this eppy he is firmly on my list. I would expect him to grieve his friends death but something about him was off. PJ man could also be a suspect. For as much as he condemned her, perhaps he had thing for the the rat? It could be that she turned him down and part of his grudge was being scorned by her. It's a weak theory because she did seem afraid and stunned by the person, and I don't see her being afraid of PJ man.

One thing that struck me is that she was not screaming when she fell. She landed with her eyes open. So perhaps she willingly jumped to her own death? You would have thought that the couple below would have heard some sort of struggle from her balcony. How high up was her apartment? The damage to the hood of the car indicates a very high fall with a hard impact.

Based on Erick's hilarious reactions which are simply pure comedy gold, I do not see him as a suspect. I do not see how the cast keeps a straight face with this guy. He's too much!

Consuelo...she did leave again driving herself. Where did she go? I don't see her as a killer, but she doesn't really have a good alibi. Dani saw her leave.

Eladio...no. He's not someone who wants to get his hands dirty with blood. He would have someone else do it. That leaves his henchman and I don't see him doing anything of the sort unless he has strict orders to do it. He's too smart to do anything to piss off his boss and ruin his cushy career.

Franco? No...still too banged up and I'm sure someone in the house would know he had left.

Julia? I don't think so, she's a bit of a flake, but I don't see murder in her wheelhouse. She wanted the rat alive so she could a divorce. Killing her would have served no purpose.

My suspects:

Aldo
PJ Man
Someone unknown to be revealed
A suicide
Accidental fall

I loved seeing the sights of NY, but could have done without Nina's fashion show. I thought all of her attire was hideous. The first outfit with the black coat was in my opinion ill fitting and her boots were clunky. I love leather fingerless gloved, but hers reminded me of something from the gym. Her second outfit was worse, the patchwork coat was just downright gaudy and so therefore very Nina. I did love her hair.

As for Art and Nina looking very happy, personally I don't see how Art or Nina could not have a good time out seeing the sights. Still I don't think Art should stay with a woman he is not in love with. That same vacation with Julia the woman he truly loves most likely would have been a true second honeymoon. Julia just seems more intellectual and someone who would know more about the history and architecture rather than where the best shops are. Nina can dress and pretty herself up all she wants, but it seems once out of her thighs, she can't hold Art's intellectual attention.

I don't see Gisela lasting too long on this TN. She just made the fatal mistake of bumping her lips to Franco.

Wow, thank you AuntyAnn for a wonderful recap.

Things have really picked up in PyP land and now we have ourselves a whodunit that will for sure keep us glued to our TV screens. We had another great episode last night and tonight promises to be just as good also.

Well, Julia did look very guilty last night.. but I don't think that she did it. It couldn't have been Erick judging by how he reacted. Eladio would be too obvious. It could have been Consuelo.. but I'm hoping that she wasn't the one who did it.

AuntyAnn- I forgot to mention, that I loved the title, especially the part about Nina and her coat going shopping in New York. :)

Carlos y Anita---I really don't recall which novela I saw the fall and landing on the roof of a car but I do remember seeing it. I think that my problem is that I have seen so many novelas that after a while they just all seem to blur and run together.

Delilah63---I have been on the fence about Nina's patchwork coat but your gaudy may have convinced me.

A commercial for yellow cab? LOL

If anyone is to leave the mansion my guess is that it will be Consuelo. You all know that in Nina's bruja eyes---Erick can do no wrong. If anyone has to leave it will be Consuelo whom the bruja doesn't like.

Anonymous, My hubby noticed the knot on Eladio's tie and commented on not liking it.He favors a Windsor knot.

Vivi in DC- I noticed the pills too as well as a tray with hand rolled cigarettes/joints. I wonder what the Ratt's tox screen will show.

My husband regularly comments on Nina's clothes, as in what is she wearing now?

The Montenegro family needs Olivia Pope to investigate.

Plus, Marlene Favela is HOT!

gringo, gaudy is actually what Nina's complete attire is. She wants to have class and style but money can not buy those things. NY is the fashion capital, but she was not presenting fashion, she was trying much too hard and it came off as loud and gaudy.

I admit she does a good job of presenting herself as polished in manners, particularly at the restaurant when the two families dined together. That is where it all ends though because it's all a facade. We don't know much about her background other than she wanted to be an actress, therefore I think everything about her is an act. She fancies herself as a celebrity of sorts.

Julia on the other hand though admittedly flaky is the one who truly appears to have some breeding. She has an elegance about her. She does not need to scream through her wardrobe for attention. Her grace and carriage do it all for her.

Forgot to add that I agree agree with you Gringo, that Consuelo is on her way out of that mansion unless Arturo puts his foot down and that is what may ultimately cause the true rift and separation between Arturo and Nina. She will side with her son and try to protect him at all costs, while Arturo will have no patience. Once it is revealed he set up Franco to be beaten up..forget about it. Erick will be toast with his father.

"Carlos y Anita---I really don't recall which novela I saw the fall and landing on the roof of a car but I do remember seeing it."

I think that was Arturo Barba as El Turco in Señor de los cielos #1

Thanks AuntyAnn for the recap.

I can't seem to figure out who could be Monse's killer. There are way too many suspects with various motives, but it will be interesting to see the direction that this drama goes through the investigation.
