TELEMUNDO Y MÁS (#1): Celia, Eva la Trailera, La Querida del Centauro, Fatmagul, and ¿Quién es Quién?: Week of February 8, 2016
Wikipedia offers the following brief synopsis of ¿Quién es Quién?: "... a story about twin brothers, one rich and the other poor, who were separated at birth and reunited several years later; they decide to change their identities, giving them the opportunity to deal with various complicated situations." I suspect the novela, starring Eugenio Siller as both brothers, will be a lot more fun than this rather dry synopsis may suggest. Some of us will surely remember Eugenio as Nicolás Núñez / Javier Bolivar in the madcap "Reina des Corazones." The Telemundo website offers a synopsis of ¿Quién es Quién? in Spanish along with information about the cast (including photos) and videos.
Everyone is welcome to join in the discussion. Please remember to put the name of the novela you're discussing at the top of your posting, since all the Telemundo novelas share the same page.

Part 1:
Fatmagul and Kerim walk home after spending the night by the water talking and contemplating his mother’s painful suicide letter. He insists that Fatmagul, like his mother, is in love with another man- Mustafa. And he, like his father, loves her, but is keeping her by his side by force. Fatmagul admits this was the case in the beginning, but it is NOT the case now. They continue on home.
The whole family is in a tizzy about where they were the whole night. Mukaddes enjoys all the drama. Kerim is cold as ice to poor Ebe Nine/Meryem, who breaks down in tears and then starts packing a bag to leave the house. Fatma and Kadir convince her to give Kerim time, and to stay put. Fatma points out that Kerim lost his mother one more time-- this time through the letter. She knows Meryem’s silence was for his own good. Kadir thinks Kerim would feel abandoned all over again if Meryem left. “You would also be turning your back on us.” Meryem decides to stay.
Fatma tries her best to be patient and understanding with Kerim, and to get him to talk about his feelings. He accuses her of being attentive and loving towards him, just because she feels pity for him. She suggests he come to therapy with her, or allow her to make an appointment for him. “Kerim, I think that you need help too. Pushing your problems aside will just make them worse.” He snaps at her, says they have way too many debts and expenses for something like that, and yells at her to stop making him worry about money! Fatma can’t believe he’s taking out his anger on her.
Kerim goes back to his old workshop, but his boss doesn’t hire him back because of the murder accusation and scandal following him. Kerim goes out job hunting each day, but the story is the same each time. No one wants to hire a murderer.
Kerim also goes to see his father, to hear his side of the story. He lets Fahrettin read the letter. Fahr cries when he reads Enise’s wish/expectation that Fahr would come back for Kerim. He explains to Kerim how he fell in love with Enise at first sight at a wedding. He asked her father for her hand. Little did he know that she was already in love with a poor man; her parents had sent her away to an aunt’s house in another town to keep Fahr from finding out about Enise’s real feelings; and then Enise was pressured into accepting his proposal. They were married by the time he found out the truth. Eleven years, and one small son, later, and they were miserable. “The lack of love turned me into a violent man.” He doesn’t really provide Kerim with a real reason why he never came back, however. First he was angry and resentful of Enise. Then it took him time to recover. Then the guilt and shame kept him from calling Kerim. Then he wrote out all his feelings in all the letters he sent Kerim, but he never opened. Fahr says he can’t forgive himself. This is not good enough for Kerim. (And it shouldn’t be!) Later, at home, Kerim actually tells Fatma about speaking with his father, and that he learned Fahr remarried and has a daughter named Deniz. Fatma wants to know more about his sister, but Kerim angrily refuses to acknowledge her as his sister. “Sure, he felt guilty, but he continued on with his new life!”
Mukaddes continues to enjoy the growing rift between the lovebirds, especially after searching through Kerim’s things to find the letter from his mother, and instead finding the letters from Fatmagul. She reads them all, then finds Fatma’s letters from Kerim, and cries self-pitying tears of jealousy.
Turaner succumbs to the wound from his suicide attempt. Ender is hospitalized from the shock. Meltem is undone. Mustafa and Asu/Hacer arrive at the hospital in Ankara to give their condolences. He tells Meltem about her father’s request that he protect her. He was the one who called the police after Turaner called him. The police take Mustafa’s statement. It’s quickly revealed that Turaner left behind a letter detailing all the Yasaran dirty dealings in the Fatmagul affair, and the police now have it. Yay!
Mustafa gets off on playing the hero, and Hacer doesn’t enjoy being his sidekick as he tries to impress his other women (Fatmagul and Meltem). She asks him how he thinks Fatma would feel about him if she knew the truth about him killing Vural. She says, “I’m the only one who loves you, despite everything.” Mustafa calls Fatmagul to tell her first about Turaner’s letter, and he calls her again to tell her that Meltem has decided to testify on her behalf at the next trial (Meltem later calls Fatma to tell her this herself), and that he’ll convince Hacer to do the same. Kerim’s mood worsens each time he finds out about one of these calls from Mustafa. After the second call, Fatma demands that Mustafa NOT call her again. They can share all this info via the lawyers.
Mustafa’s parents find out from his fisherman friend (Savar?) that he married Asu/Hacer. They call him and disown him.
The Yasaran first find out about Turaner’s suicide. Resat gets ticked off at Erdogan and Selim for coming up with the honey trap plan (even though he approved it at the end). Turaner’s death is apparently too far for this to have gone. But he really gets pissed off when they learn about Turaner’s letter to the authorities, and later when they learn his secretary spilled the beans about the honey trap (she helped Erdogan) and that the police are looking for Yasmin the call girl. Resat threatens to disinherit both Selim and Erdogan if he gets pulled into this mess. Perihan is ticked off at ALL the Yasaran men (her brother Munir included). “When this is all over, I want you all out of my life!” Hilmiye tries to calm her down by reminding her that this is all “that girl’s fault.” (Shut up, Hilmiye!)
The days pass, and we learn what depressed Kerim has been up to by listening in on some of Fatmagul’s sessions with her therapist. She explains: “We were closer when we were far apart. We were braver--at least, I was braver. It was easier for me to get closer to him when we were writing letters. It’s strange. I thought it would be different…I really missed him (when he was away). But now it’s different. I know he’s suffering, and going through something important. But he’s doing all he can to distance himself from me. Before it was he who helped me heal…Now, we don’t even talk to each other. He’s colder each day. And I haven’t found the way to help him.”
She acknowledges that the way Kerim is treating her now, is similar to the way she used to treat him. But she thinks this is different, because even when she was shutting him out, they were at least fighting on the same side together. “It’s as if he’s punishing himself with solitude. He doesn’t spend any time with us. He’s started drinking. He often comes home drunk… Although he doesn’t want it, his father exists, no matter what Kerim thinks of him.”
We see Kerim getting his drunk on, all by himself in a café. Fahr, and two of his aging mafia don looking buddies, follow Kerim. (Fahr has requested that they follow Kerim at all times and keep him out of trouble and safe.) Fahr sits down with Kerim and tries to speak to Kerim about offering him financial assistance, since he can’t find work. Kerim is not exactly receptive. “I never needed anything from you, and I’ll never need anything from you. Don’t try to act like a father with your money.” He moves on to another café to continue drinking.
He finally stumbles home. Fatmagul, having just finished knitting a sweater for him, is the only one still up. She tries to get him inside with the least noise possible, then goes to make him coffee. He eventually stumbles into her room, and she has him sit on the bed while he drinks the coffee. He’s still singing the same tune about them being like his parents, and her still loving Mustafa. “I believed a lie for years. I don’t want to be made a fool of again. Don’t feel obligated to put up with me. We’re the same as them. And I’m the same as that man…He enslaved her. He too wanted to live with a woman who didn’t love him. And you are like her—you never renounced your true love. You still love Mustafa.”
Fatma asks him if he’s crazy and gets angry at him. They both end up yelling at each other, Kerim towering over Fatma and barely able to keep from falling over. He keeps insisting that she loves Mustafa and demands that she confess! She keeps denying it. Things get heated, and then Kerim corners Fatma against the door, leans in too close as if to kiss her, gets too grabby, and whines: “I want you to love me.” Fatma panics, screams at him to let her go, and then SLAPS the drunk out of him! (OK. Can we be done with petulant, angry, drunk Kerim now?)
-End of episode.
I’m starting to sour on this novela. All we ever see is about 45 minutes of Marlacula plotting and winning every battle. The whole thing about Adriana refusing to ever speak to her mother again is just dumb.
Eva tells everyone to get out of the room. This is a conversation between she and El Señor.
Soraya advises Pablo not to even think of going inside
Adriana, the 18-year old with the worst judgment in the State of California, tells her sweet tía, Marlene, that she can’t take her mother deceiving her father. This víbora tells her that her mother has changed, must be that guy’s influence. Who knows how long this romance has been going on?
Eva tells Armando she hasn’t been unfaithful to him, although he certainly deserves it.
Armando barges into Marlene’s house and starts to grill his tearful daughter. Who was the guy? After Adriana walks out, he starts using Marlene as his sounding board again. He tells her Eva wasn’t even ashamed.
Outside Andy the Asquerosa tells Adriana she’s of age. Forget her parents. He also tells her that, out of all the women he’s been out with, she’s the one he wants to be with.
Armando tells Marlene he doesn’t know what a man feels when the woman of his life goes with another man. I don’t think this goes down too well with Marlene.
Martín is watching Diego on his horse. Betty is trying to get him to tell her who the woman is that Pablo is seeing. Martín, another character with lousy judgment, gives Betty some hope by telling her he’d prefer his son would choose her. But he doesn’t tell her about Eva.
After Armando leaves Marlene tells AA that she wants to get rid of the “stepdaughters”, beginning with the chillona (moaning and whining). She wants to get Adriana away from Armando. And as for the other one, she can stay with her mother or they’ll put her in an institution.
AA tells his charming sister that she should give him some advance warning when she wants to get rid of Adriana, so he can … More inappropriate sibling stuff. She calls him guapo and he kisses her hand. [I have a brother who would get goose flesh if I ever called him “handsome”.] She tells him she has to leave, that a day of triumph awaits her.
Adriana tells her mother she never plans to speak to her again. Eva mildly tells her she’ll always be there for her.
Marlene enters Armando’s office and he tells her the sky has fallen on him. He addresses her as comadre and then tells her she drives him nuts as he comes on to her. She tells him she arranged for him to talk with Adriana this afternoon and tell her how much he loves her, etc. He roars that he wants to know who is the idiot who’s sleeping with his wife. She tells him that she’s quitting. She tells him she expected a better way of celebrating her giving herself to him than that he come crying to her that his ex has a lover. And then she goes on to play him like a violin. He ends up telling her she’s the queen and she warms up some.
Some nurse tells Soraya that Arnulfo is in bad shape. Pancho has sent Soraya flowers.
Martín notices that Pablo is in a bad mood. He says that he never meddles [Ha!] in his son’s life, but… Pablo isn’t talking and Martin says that he hasn’t found anything incriminating off the downloaded data.
Eva is reviewing the books she got from Javier and finds something odd, although she cannot put her finger on it.
Later she goes into Javier’s office and fires him. Mostly this was because her instincts told her he was nervous, hands even shaking when she was in his office. Later he tells Armando that he got the important stuff in the bankers box and the rest of it is at his house.
Pablo finally tells Martín he can’t go back to Mon-Sol because Adriana saw him kissing Eva.
Marlene tells Eva she’s not herself. She refers to Pablo as a chavito. This gets a sharp retort from Eva that he’s a grown man. She disappoints Marlene by not admitting that she’s in love with Pablo and that she won’t be seeing him again. She tells Marlene that the only thing she cares about is her children.
Armando barges into Eva’s office and tells her that Javier is going to stay. Eva says that, in addition to his being a patán and a mujeriego, he’s a liar. Armando is furious, but Marlene gets into his face and tells him Eva is her friend and to back off.
Marlene calls Pablo and tells him she wants to see him at the office. She says she knows why he quit. She says she only wants to see Eva happy.
Marlene explains to Armando that she got in his face that way to get Eva to confide in her. She’ll know what Eva’s planning and can tell him. She also tells him he needs to get Adriana on his side. He’ll need allies.
Sofía and Evancio are told that Carmen is being transferred out of ICU and should be OK. We see AA overhearing this with a disgusted look on his face.
Adriana shows up and tells Marlene she wishes at times that SHE’D been her mother.
Pablo arrives. Marlene gushes over him some. He asks if she’s sure neither Eva nor Armando are in the office just now. She tells him she can be a great confidante for him.
Marlene has told the office assistant to give her 15 minutes and then have Eva come to her office.
Adriana, the brat, comes to see Marlene, her new BFF, and finds Pablo there. She starts shrieking, bringing both Eva and Armando into Marlene’s office. Armando, as of right now, doesn’t know who Eva was kissing at the movies, but I think he’s about to find out.
thank you so much for the wonderful recap novelera!
yes, following Bajo and the subtleties that the creator Perla Farias puts into her stories, it's not the same.
but then again, this show is nuts, what's that sound, must be Arnulfo falling down the stairs trying to escape again, after his wheelchair was disposed of.
and what was that pink thing Eva put down after her confront with Armando,
Soraya's taser?
I'm totally frustrated no one is making the Andy/Adriana connection, come on bobby junior, step up, blue blood and all.
and I think Eva had Javier's office locked down until the audit.
but I'm lovin' Marlene's timing (or rather the writers) arranging to meet Pablo at 2, having Adriana meet her father at 2, and stopping by afterwards to let her know how it went, then arranging for Eva to be there at 2:15, Eva didn't buy it but heard Adriana.
Pablo is going to need a little equine therapy after this one.
ok, here is my ending to the story, Eva, in jeans and cowboy boots, puts on her leather driving gloves and climbs up into one the big rigs, fires it up, looks down at Pablo, you coming?
(and in the sleeper are their kids,
except for Adriana who is now working with the blind)
A true legend, but a confusing telenovela.
Centauro
Who in their right mind moves their querida in with their esposa! Im speechless
N.Lopez
Marvellous recap, novelera! Thanks so much. I agree that this novela is no Bajo, but I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would. One element I especially like is Screwball Soraya. I'm counting on her to Save the Day.
Betty, OTOH, drives me up the wall, as I'm sure she's supposed to. But I fear I identify with her a bit too much. I think/hope I've never made as much of a pitiful ass of myself as she does with Pablo, but her portrayal is still too close for comfort. :-)
Deb, I loved your comments. Yes, Bobby Jr. has to be good for something. I've been assuming that Soraya will be the one to make the connection between Andy the Asqueroso (AA) and Adriana the Brat (AB), but yes, I like your choice of Bobby Jr.
I will do a recap of tonight's episode and hope to have it posted sometime tomorrow (Wednesday) morning, perhaps around 11 am.
Vivi, ITA; I hope that whack Fatma gave Kerim brings back the old charming galant. The scenes with him drunk and hurtful are maudlin for me to watch. Poor Fatma as soon as she relaxes her pent up feelings things start to go south again. She has really matured. I adore Murat, but Mukaddes should not have children. She is messed up emotionally.
Thanks again for giving us, as usual, a stellar recap.
Thanks, thanks, thanks, novelera. Despite your growing dislike of the relentless Marlacula scheming (with which I am in agreement), you gave us a terrific recap. (Thanks for pointing out Marli's nasty remarks about how to dispose of the daughters. So that's why AA is encouraging AB to go to university far far away—that whole discussion went over my head.)
Soraya WILL save the day, one of these days. I'm afraid it may be many, many days as we are only just getting off the ground, plot-wise. And Bobby Blue Blood will also save the day for Adriana. (See, I've got this whole thing figured already).
I'm also looking forward to seeing our heroine jump in that rig and drive off into the sunset, but she's so committed to her daughters and salvaging her businessnthat it will probably take months of searing trauma from the evil pair, manipulating every dupe in their path, before she's desperate enough to make that move.
Thanks, Brenda. Yes, it's quite a reversal of roles between Fatma and Kerim. Of course, when a man is depressed and traumatize, he takes refuge in anger and alcohol-- which just makes things worse. I could take him shutting down and struggling with dealing with these revelations better, if he would put down the booze and quit being so mean. Stop it, Kerim!
But it is wonderful to see how far Fatma has come and how self-aware and mature she has become. I'm so proud of her!
"Hilmiye tries to calm her down by reminding her that this is all “that girl’s fault.” (Shut up, Hilmiye!)" You're right Vivi...shut up Hilme. I have no patience for Hilmi. Her son is the criminal rapist here and yet.....she as a woman blames the victim....another female. I still don't get this attitude. Yes...you love your son and want to protect him...but shut up about the victim already. If the men in your family weren't such louses....non of this would have happened. Lucky she's not in Fatma's shoes instead.
So Kerim's father wants to play godfather to the rescue with money (this is exactly what Mukka wanted). Anyway, I know that ultimately Kerim will likely forgive his dad but I agree with Kerim...his father's guilt did not stop him from moving on with his life. His father could never have a good enough excuse. I know he said he wasn't in a position to come back and be a father but 20 years...why now....did he at least explain that....maybe I missed it??
Poor Fatma...I know she's not happy about the drinking....especially with the way the perps used alcohol on her that night. Pull yourself together Kerim...this is not a good look on you!
Nett
Nett- Ditto everything you said about Hilmiye. Her son is the worst of the lot too!
Fahr has not given a good reason for his 20 year absence from his son life, in my opinion. Sure, shame and guilt are powerful paralytics, but not an excuse. Why now? I guess because he finally received a reply to his letters (from Mukaddes) and then read the news about Kerim's arrest and figured that now was the time he could actually "do" something for his son. It gave him a concrete reason and an opportunity to run to the rescue. He probably thought this would make reconciliation with Kerim easier.
I do hope Kerim forgives him, and I don't think Fahr is a bad person. I think he could actually be really helpful to Fatma and Kerim. He he should have to grovel and beg first and face up to the huge mistake he made by not being man enough to come back for his son years/decades ago.
I have never seen a telenovela that even remotely approached the quality of Celia, and I wonder that it didn’t have more followers here on Caray. I was agape watching it. The masses of extras, all dressed in period outfits, the period cars lining the streets, the beautiful sets (actual houses? actual nightclubs?) the beautiful lighting. And the acting! Every performance was a gem – usually there are a few wonderful actors in a telenovela, several okay ones, and some duds. But here everyone hit it out of the park. Oh, and the dancing! It seems that every Cuban must dance – everyone, Celia herself and everyone around her, even the extras, could just burn up the screen with their dancing. Of course, the music was thrilling. And there were no contrived plot points, no mysterious parentage, nobody falling down the staircase.
The abuses of the Cuban revolution, and the exiles’ acute grief and longing for their homeland were front and center, all deeply moving. I’ll bet Celia was a hit among the Cubans who’d fled at the time, and it’s also a safe bet that it wasn’t shown in Cuba, as its portrayal of the revolutionaries was damning.
Too bad it pretty much fell flat on its face when many of the cast were replaced with older actors when there was a time jump of several years. The new Celia was as astonishingly brilliant as the younger one, but many other parts suffered. The new Pedro (Celia’s husband) was a complete disaster – he overacted terribly, and came across as weak instead of as the strong, dignified man he was reported to be. The younger Pedro had brought that off quite nicely. Sigh.
I know this is not the Uni page but I have a question for those of you who are watching Hotel. I was excited about this novella and have read the recaps from time to time and they make the show sound appealing. But i'm having a tough timing getting into this novella. I like both lead actors and the premise of the show but each time I try to watch an episode...nothing grabs me. Is it just me.
Nett
HOTEL- Nett- I love it. But the genre isn't for everybody. And if you miss episodes, you're really missing all the clues and mysteries that are added every episode, and it would make sense that things other viewers are picking up on as neat clues, wouldn't grab you.
Maggie, I found your remarks about Celia quite interesting. I watched just a tiny part of one episode and found the accents rather difficult. Even when people are speaking slowly and clearly, I'm challenged. With difficult accents, the challenge was too great for me. Perhaps I should have given it more of a chance, but....
Maggie- Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I watched Celia earlier on, and never saw any of the episodes with "older" Celia. I agree with your assessment on the costumes, setting, sets, props, and beautiful filming (I believe the Cuba sections were filmed in Cartagena, Colombia). And the music, performances and dancing were amazing. It's just the story itself that never really grabbed me, and increasingly became easier to not watch.
I’m not sure the compliments on last night’s recap are deserved. In the first place my DVR seems to be developing some hiccups. It’s set to record every episode of the novela and I start watching about 15 minutes in so as to skip commercials. Well, last night, 15 minutes in and it was not recording. I managed to get everything from that point recorded. I’m referring to the 6:00 CA time showing that I get on DirecTV. So I typed up what I had then. Then I watched the beginning at the 9:00 time. So I felt like some of the things I wrote were disjointed. And it’s hard for me to write a recap when I’m annoyed at the way the thing is going.
Adriana only has ONE slap so far! Way too few for this miserable pampered brat. If I were her mother I’d have already packed her bags for the farthest away college to be found. Maybe Newfoundland? I think that’s the farthest East in North America. She was a snotty little fresa long before her parents were revealed to her to have clay feet.
The only thing I’m curious about in this show is whether Carmen is going to figure out who put out the hit on her. I think she’ll grasp it as quickly as she caught on to Marlene’s sending the property transfer document and key to Eva.
I’m also finding the Soraya moving Arnulfo into her house plot tedious. It was kind of funny when she told him he was free to leave, but the wheelchair and oxygen tank would stay, since she paid for them. But it kind of tarnishes Soraya a bit. I’m not saying she should forgive him, but having that evil dude under one’s roof cannot be good for anyone.
Juanita – I had a terrible time with the accents too. I was glued to the captions, which was too bad, as it gave me less eyeball time to see the beautiful production and wonderful acting.
You know, I had always wondered how the French gave up pronouncing the final “s” in words – didn’t they need it? – and come to find out the Cubans do the same thing!
Vivi – the story really gained momentum later when the revolution got started. I grieved and grieved over its consequences, particularly over a story line about the cruel persecution of a gay man, but also over the plight of those who could not return to their homeland.
I wonder if the revolution did anybody any good…
Hotel is a beautiful production and the cast is great - I love the lead couple. But there are so many anachronisms that it makes me holler at the screen. Why did the floozy show up at the engagement party dressed in Shakespeare-period clothing? The party-goers might have mistaken her bodice (which people hadn't worn for centuries) for a corset, and thought she'd shown up in her underwear. Why was the Big Mama at the Rowdy Roadhouse dressed like a medieval peasant? Why did all the folks at the engagement party dance just shifting their weight back and forth like high school seniors doing a slow dance at the prom? In those pre-TV days, dancing was a very important part of social life, and the dances were complex. But what really slays me, and turned me off to the show, is the 3-days growth of beard on Our Hero. NOBODY in those days would go out in public like that, and a servant in livery appearing unshaven would be fired on the spot.
so based on the timelines we've been given, fatma was a teen when she was attacked ans Kerim and his crew were about 30?
Nett
Nett- Fatma was 19, and I believe the guys were mid-20s. The newspaper after Vural died listed his age as 26. I believe all the guys are around this age.
Yes, Fatma was 19 and the guys mid twenties. Remember Nett, Kerim's dad was gone about 20 years and he was 6 when his mom died. Kerim needed that slap, grabbing at a girl who was raped by 3 guys a year ago(specially you were there) is never, ever right, drunk or not. But our (flawed) prince charming is lurking beneath the surface. I will tell you that near kiss scene and Kerim's behavior spilled a lot of ink back then. People were up in arms about his "roughing" up Fatma. He lost his head for a minute and terrified and disappointed Fatma, true but he did not "rough" her up. I felt so terrified for Fatma too especially because Kerim was drunk just like the rape. Muka is just jealous and envious. See, how she was enjoying herself as they fight. Thanks Vivi, you were superb as usual.
Celia: I watched all of it but did not like the change with other actors as older people. They could have used make up to age them but I guessed they did not want to do that.
Romy
Romy- Interesting that people described what he did as roughing her up. He did not do that, in my opinion. But he invaded her personal space, got too grabby, and was just menacing in general-- especially for someone recovering from a rape. Frankly, since his being drunk (and high), along with the other guys, heavily contributed to the rape (including his complicity), I think Kerim should have sworn off drinking, permanently. Or at least when he knows he will be in Fatma's presence (the same home) at any point after he drinks. It's just insensitive, from our usually sensitive galan.
Novelera, I was astonished to hear about the difficulties you faced while writing your recap. None of that was apparent. Indeed, I admired your ability to cover so much so well and so concisely. Little did I know you were gritting your teeth the whole way.
Hmmm...perhaps I should try gritting my teeth when I write tonight's recap. I'd love it to be as skillful as yours!
Vivi.. I agree about the drinking thing with Fatma....that is totally insensitive given the circumstances. And Thanks for the clarification on the ages. I thought he was 6 when his mother died but I thought someone else referenced he was 11 so I that assumed I heard wrong or forgot what he told Fatma about that when they spoke about their parents.
Anyway...today's episode was interesting. Another crazy conversation fueled by alcohol so Kerim decides he should let Fatma go to live her own life. He feels he's holding her healing progress up. That part was thoughtful but apparently she doesn't agree and she's trying to move toward him....even as he's pulling back. Unfortunately, Kerim is haunted by the ghost of Mustafa....more than Fatma is. This coupled with the recent revelation about his parents has him all twisted and confused. She clearly stated that Mustafa is no longer of interest to her but Kerim is not listening to her.
Selim's mother burned the evidence of her husband's infidelity but yet she is blackmailing him with it...did I get that right?
Nett
Nett- Kerim's parents were married 11 years, but he was only six.
Haven't seen today's episode yet. If I watch it tonight, I'll recap sometime tomorrow while at the office.
Thanks Vivi for monday's steller recap. Ayyy kerim, quit the booze. I'm glad that at least he opened some to kadir and that he has started working again. Although I'm expecting another explosion when he finds out the reason behind his employment.
I hate to see how fatmagul tries to be there and get close to kerim and pushes her away because of misjudging her intentions. You can see how much she yearns to fight on the same side with him again.
"aging mafia" haha vivi great description of them. They definitely give off that vibe.
Nett, selim's mom hid away the evidence of her husband's infidelity and phone conversations of the escort and edrogan talking about the the honey trap plan. She told resat that if he plans on doing anymore harm to fatmagul (other than the trial) she will use her hidden evidence against him.
And my eyes were getting misty during that last conversation between kerim and fatmagul in today's episode. So many feelings! The way she baked that cake for them, and begged him not to quit and get a divorce. And I do love how she handled hearing kerim (drunkenly) say he wanted to get a divorce by forcing a sit down conversation just with the two of them so they can really talk. I do wonder what its going to take for kerim to work on gettinh past this phase, because I cannot see him forgiving his father any time soon.
jlk
N.Lopez, I know right, especially since the wife is crazy. No doubt she'll sniff out the lie soon enough. I can see Yolanda keeping up the facade of Claudia but not Cristina .
jlk
JLK...thx. I realize now that Selim's mother just burned the pictures but not the rest of the evidence. I'm so glad that finally...another female, close to this mess, besides Ebe is sticking up for Fatma, and more importantly for what' right and decent. And a mother of one of the criminals no less.
Nett
Thanks to Marlene's careful plotting, Armando, Eva, Pablo, and Adriana have all arrived at Marlene's office. The startled Adriana spots Pablo and tells her father that Pablo's the one who kissed Eva at the cine. Macho Man Armando tries to hit Pablo, but Pablo gets the better of the fight and leaves the office. Armando runs after him, and the fist fight continues outside, with Pablo again getting the better of the match. The two are finally separated. Armando tells Pablo he's fired, and Pablo replies that he has already resigned. Pablo leaves, and Armando and Eva hurl insults at each
The scene shifts to the One Hospital in Los Angeles. Carmen is making a miraculous recovery. Sofia is at her bedside. Carmen says she doesn't remember what happened. Sofia tells her that she was hit by a car and the driver fled. Carmen asks whether it was an accident or on purpose. Sofia says the police are investigating, and that all they know at the moment is that the car that hit her had been stolen the same day and was abandoned near Carmen's house. Evancio appears with flowers. He's very happy that she's recovering, and he tells her he will become a different man, he will stop drinking and will try to be a better father and a better husband. Sourpuss Carmen says she doesn't believe him and tells him to leave. As soon as he goes, Carmen asks Sofia to call Marlene and tell her that she (Carmen) needs to see her.
Eva is in Marlene's office trying to understand what happened and why. She asks why Pablo had been there, and Marlene replies that he came to resign. Marlene is fishing to learn more incriminating information about Eva's relationship with him, but Eva insists that the only thing that happened was that they kissed outside the cine. After more discussion, Eva tells Marlene that "the one person I can trust, the one person incapable of betraying me is you." [Viewerville screams at the television.] Someone comes by Marlene's office to tell Eva that the auditors have arrived. Eva goes to see them, not noticing that her trustworthy friend looks as if she's about to throw up.
The scene shifts to the fired accountant's house (Javier?). His wife, Elsa, is surprised to see him home so early. He nervously explains that he's been fired by Eva, that she had a "feeling" (corazonada) that something was wrong and that he was hiding something. He assures Elsa that Eva found nothing, that all the evidence is in his safe (caja fuerte), and a copy is at the bank, as Elsa had suggested. The only thing that Armando and Marlene told him is to bear up quietly and all will be resolved. Elsa is delighted. Far from being upset that Javier has been sacked, she suggests that they take a vacation in Cancun and let Armando pay for it. She explains that Armando depends on him, that he has Armando in his hands, that the information he has is the hen that lays golden eggs.
Back in Marlene's office, a furious Armando is venting. What seems to enrage him most is that Eva has left him for a mere driver. Marlene apparently feels very sure of herself. She tells Armando that he's forgetting who he was, that Eva has simply exchanged an older driver for a younger one (sólo que cambió un chofer mayor por.uno más joven). Ow!
Adriana is clearly her father's daughter. All upset, she comes to see Andy and cries, "He's a driver for Mon-Sol. My mother has gone to bed with a driver! Can you believe that?" He tells her to calm down, and says he'll give her something to help her feel better. Ooops. We then see them making out passionately on the couch with what looks like a bong in the foreground.
Pablo visits his wife's grave and tells her that he has fallen in love with Eva Soler.
Armando calls two of his M-S employees into his office and tells them he wants them to do a special job for him. It's something personal, and so he's willing to pay very well. He explains that he wants to send a "painful message." They agree, and round up two more employees. Some aren't all that happy about beating up Pablo, but they're afraid that if they don't do what Armando wants, they'll be fired. Also, one of them says he has kids to support. As they're discussing this, they are overheard by yet another M-S employee, Enrique Arenas.
Marlene comes to see Carmen in the hospital and assures her that their agreement still holds and that once Eva falls into their trap, they'll divide up the shares of the company and give her her share. However, this will take time. Carmen says she'll give her a week. A week will be more than enough, Marlene assures her.
The scene shifts back to Adriana and Andy. Andy seems a bit unhappy. Adriana asks him what's wrong. He tells her he hadn't thought that she was a virgin, since she had been with Bobby. She explains that Bobby was different, and that she's in love with Andy and wants them to be together forever. It's astonishing to me that she can't see Andy's total lack of enthusiasim for what she's saying.
Marlene comes to see Armando. He intentionally spills drink on her blouse, rips it off, and the two of them go at it.
Eva goes to see Soraya. A nurse comes by to report to Soraya on the health of the patient. Soraya explains to Eva that the patient is a relative who is in poor health and is staying with her for a short while. She then quickly changes the subject back to Eva and Pablo. She tells Eva that she thinks Pablo is right for her. Eva replies that common sense tells her that what is most important is for her to take care of her daughters. Soraya tells her that her daughters will grow up and be on their own. What will make you happy now? Common sense or Pablo?
Enrique Arenas has come to Pablo's house. Pablo isn't there, but Enrique tells Martin that he has to warn Pablo about something very dangerous. We then see Pablo drive up to his house, and as he gets out, he is attacked by four masked men. He does a very good job of fighting back, but they finally overpower him. He brings out his pistol and fires it into the air. They flee. Martin and Enrique rush out of the house to find Pablo all bloody on the ground. They call for an ambulance to take him to The Only Hospital in Los Angeles.
As Armando and Marlene are enjoying themselves in bed, he receives a phone call from his thugs reporting on what has happened. Marlene is angry with Armando. "Do you want to be put in prison for a crime of passion? You have to learn to control yourself." "I can't," replies Armando.
Andy and the guy he hired to kill Carmen (El Chivo?) are discussing how to handle the situation now that Carmen has survived. El Chivo spots a photo of Marlene and says he'd like to meet her. Andy is not pleased.
At the hospital, the doctor tells Pablo that there are two fractures. He gives him some medicine for pain. After the doctor and nurse leave the room, Martin tells Pablo they have to report this to the police and also get a body guard for Pablo. He asks whether Pablo knows who did this, Pablo tells him that he didn't see their faces, but he thinks they were sent by Armando. That sets Martin off on a tirade.
There's a short scene I don't understand where Adriana comes home and is very hungry. She opens some leftovers and starts eating them with her hands. Noemi and Celeste look on with dismay. I don't know what to make of this. It has the feeling of a pregnancy symptom, but I don't think excessive, sloppy eating is such a symptom, and even if it were, it wouldn't occur the same day the woman had sex.
At the hospital, Sofia tells Carmen that Eva had been to see her while she was unconscious and that Eva is paying all the hospital bills. The ever-gracious Carmen says that Eva is doing so because she has a guilty conscience, since "she robbed me of my inheritance from our father." Sofia leaves Carmen's room and literally bumps into Andy and El Chivo heading in the opposite direction. I think Andy recognizes her and quickly moves away.
Even though it's late at night, Martin comes to see Eva at her house and launches into Part 2 of The Tirade. He informs her that it's her fault that his son is now in the hospital. Pablo was attacked by four men who are employees at Mon-Sol and it was Eva's husband who sent them. He also likens the situation between Pablo and her to the dog in the manger that neither eats nor lets anything be eaten (Está como el perro del hortelano que ni come o deja comer). Eva objects, and Martin says OK, lets be calmer, do you like my son or not (A usted, le gusta a mi hijo, ¿sí o no?). My son could have any number of women, but he's crazy about you. Stop toying with my son. Martin then leaves.
Armando and Marlene meet with lawyer Alberto Silva to figure out how to take everything from Eva, property, bank accounts, etc. Silva says that the fastest thing would be to set up fictitious sales, but to do that they'd need Eva's signature. Marlene says she can get Eva to sign. Silva says that Armando also needs to set a testaferro, someone he trusts who can act on his behalf. Armando says Marlene would be the perfect testaferro.
Eva comes to see Pablo in the hospital. The episode ends on a very loving scene between the two of them.
Part 1:
Fatmagul slaps sense back into Kerim, after he drunkenly gets too grabby and tries to kiss her. He holds his face in stunned silence—surprised by both the slap and his own actions that led to it. Ebe Nine/Meryem and Mukaddes rush to the room, having been awoken by the argument, and ask what’s going on. Fatma collapses to the floor in tears, and Kerim runs out of the room shamefaced. Meryem follows him, demanding to know what happened. He shuts his door on her, so she rushes back upstairs, shoos nosey Mukaddes out, and comforts Fatma. Fatma can’t stop crying. From his balcony downstairs, Kerim hears her crying and hears what she tells Meryem. “He took out his anger on me. He's changed since that letter. It's like he's a different person. He scared me so much!”
Kerim runs out of the house, and Fatma and Meryem watch him disappear down the street. The next morning, Mehmet wakes him from his sleeping spot- the couch in the restaurant. Kerim heads home before the family arrives to open the restaurant. Meanwhile, Fatmagul watches the sun rise from her balcony, where she spent the entire night. She has clearly spent much of the night crying. Meryem brings her breakfast, tells her to stay home that day and rest, and then works hard to convince Mukaddes to come with her to the restaurant, so that Fatma can be alone. Kerim comes home, and heads to the shower, assuming no one is home. He bumps right into Fatma coming out of the shower. They can’t even look each other in the eye. Kerim trips over his words apologizing. “Last night I made a mistake. I won't repeat it. I swear that I hate myself right now. You can't believe how sorry I am.” Fatma just starts crying again and runs to her room. Once they are both dressed, she has calmed down enough to make a peace offering—the sweater she knit for him. But by the time she gets downstairs to give it to him, he’s already out the door. She sadly puts the sweater on his bed.
Kerim is all set to start his job hunt again, when he gets a call from his old boss offering him his job back—he’ll start tomorrow. Little does he know that his father, Fahrettin, has just had a little chat with the boss. Fahr will see that his workshop gets plenty of new clients if he hires back Kerim. Fahr checks in with his right hand man, Mumtaz. He’s decided to stay in Turkey a while longer. He knows Deniz is impatient to see him and to learn more about her brother, but she’s going to have to be patient. “Her brother waited 19 years.”
In Ankara, Kadir is meeting with Meltem and Ender about what they know about the night of the rape. Much of what Meltem saw was the suspicious behavior of the Yasaran men after Mukaddes came to see them the next night. She also tells Kadir that the Yasaran originally said that Selim, Erdogan and Vural spent the night of the rape together in Vural’s house. She then blows the Namli (Vural’s family) lie out of the water that they were there that night, together with the Yasaran. Vural’s parents were out of the country that day and night. They didn’t arrive until the next day. Aha! Kadir can verify this through travel records. Kadir and Meltem head to the police station to make official statements involving Fatma’s case and the circumstances around her father’s death. The Yasaran boys have also been called to give statements, based on what the police learned about the honey trap. Of course, they lie and deny. Meltem and Kadir run into the Yasaran men in the corridor of the D.A.’s office. Selim goes on the attack, calling Meltem all kinds of names. She fights back. “You all murdered my father! You'll all fall! I'll destroy you!” She lets them know she’s now on Team Fatmagul. Once the Yasaran men are outside, they all agree that they need to shut Fatmagul up—“no matter what.” (Yikes!)
In Ildir, Yasar is speaking to the fishermen and asking them questions about Mustafa and about the night Vural was killed. Mustafa’s friend tells Yasar to quit asking questions and to scram. They don’t like the Yasaran here! Then he calls Mustafa and warns him about the Yasaran goon asking questions about him and about Vural’s murder. Mustafa later starts making plans for how to flee the country, and tries to convince Asu/Hacer that it will be like a honeymoon. Hacer is not down with that plan. We know she earlier met with Leman, to give her someone to speak with about Vural, and admitted to Leman that she’s pregnant. Considering that Mustafa made her get an abortion the last time, she’s not forthcoming with him this time. She asks Mustafa, hypothetically, what if they have kids? His very negative reaction is enough to keep her quiet about her pregnancy.
Back at the Yasaran homefront, Perihan receives a package addressed to Resat and opens it. Inside she finds a note from Yazmin, the honey trap ho. “If you don't protect me, I'll have to talk.” The package includes photos of Yazmin getting it on with Erdogan and with Resat (at different times) and a dvd with recordings of her conversations with Erdogan plotting the honey trap. Perihan burns some of the photos, then keeps the rest and the recordings for herself, and puts them in her hidden safe. When Resat comes home, he finds that he’s being moved to another bedroom. Perihan tells him about the package and what it contained. She tells him she doesn’t want to see him or Selim again. Then she threatens that if anything happens to Fatmagul/they do anything to her, she will reveal the recordings AND tell the judge everything she knows. Resat is shocked—is she blackmailing him?! “Yes. I learned it from you.”
Seems that Kerim has NOT learned his lesson. He goes drinking again that night, and gets even more drunk than the night before. He calls up Kadir, who’s on his way back from Ankara, and begins drunk babbling all his woes. He tells Kadir about the grabby/near kiss incident the night before. “Now I can't look Fatmagul in the eyes. We repeated the story, and Fatmagul hates me again. I would die to take that look of fear out of her eyes. The only thing real in my life is Fatmagul…Now I know who my mother really was. She never loved me. Who can I trust now? I want Fatmagul to tell me that she truly loves me.” Kadir has the patience of a saint listening to all this babbling. Kerim brings up Mustafa, and how he saw how upset Fatma was when she learned in court that Mustafa had married Hacer. Kadir tries to get him to see that Fatma was only dealing with Mustafa to get HIM (Kerim) out of prison. Kerim is too drunk and too caught up in self-pity to hear him. “Fatmagul has never and will never forgive me. I know that she hates me.” By the time Kadir arrives back in Istanbul and finds Kerim at the bar, Kerim can barely stand. Kadir picks him up and takes him home. Kerim tells him that HE’S his true father.
The whole family gathers around to see the spectacle when Kerim stumbles in on Kadir’s arm. Kadir and Rahmi get him undressed and in bed, and Rahmi carelessly tosses aside the sweater to the corner of the room. Fatma can’t help but listen in at the door, along with Mukaddes. She hears Kerim babbling about his feelings for her: “I'll make it up to her. I won't anger her any more. I'll break up with her. We'll divorce. I love her so much, but I'm hurting her.” Fatma is clearly sad to hear him mention getting divorced, but she also seems determined to do something.
The next morning, Fatma calls Kerim from the restaurant. She tells him they need to talk and resolve their issues as soon as possible. Kerim looks worried and agrees to come after he’s done at work that evening.
When he arrives at the restaurant, the others all leave and leave them alone. Fatmagul starts. “I wanted to talk to you, because I'm worried about you.” Kerim starts talking over her, apologizing again for the incident. Fatma brushes that aside to talk about the real issue. “You're hurting and confused. I understand. Or I'm trying to.” She apologizes for hitting him and lets him know it was just a reflex. She tells him she doesn’t think of Mustafa at all anymore.
Fatma: Why are you angry at me? Why don't you trust me?
Kerim: It's myself I don't trust.
Fatma tells him that she has learned to trust herself. She reminds him of the letter he wrote her when he was going to leave and they were going to divorce. She memorized every word, and she believed every word he wrote her. She then reminds him of the night she broke down and told him that she wants to recover. “I've been making an effort ever since that night. I couldn't even say your name before, and when you said mine, I'd get nauseous. I didn't even want to see your face. Now, I write you letters. (She takes his hands in hers.) Look at how I can even take your hand. Don't you see that I'm trying?”
Kerim pulls his hands away, and points out to Fatma the language she’s using- trying, attempting, making an effort. He thinks this proves that he’s forcing her. “The only thing you should be making an effort to do is get better. I've decided to distance myself from you, Fatmagul. Let's get divorced. That way you can recuperate more quickly. I'm not saying that I don't love you. And I don't want to lose hope. I'll continue hoping. I'll never give up loving you. If we continue this way, you won't be at peace. Because I'm sure you still don't love me. You know it's true. Fine. You're trying to make me happy, but that's exactly why I want to divorce.”
Tears spring to Fatma’s eyes, and she gets up and goes to the counter. She pulls out a cake, covered in chocolate icing and decorated with strawberries. She says, “But I don't. A year ago, on this date (their wedding day, November 7th), I didn't want to live. But you have given me a reason. I made this cake for us. We've been married a year, and now we're in the second year. You said you wanted to make new, happy memories. I want to too. Let this be the first. Let's not divorce. Don't do it.” Kerim is moved to tears by this emotional plea.
-End of episode.
Thank you Juanita, for your wonderful recap! Every detail, lots of action. You nailed it all. So yucky about AA and AB. I, too, was puzzled about her gobbling all that food in front of the maids, maybe a severe case of the munchies (that did indeed look like a bong). At least he didn't use date rape drugs. I don't think the idea was a sexual adventure for Andy, as I'm sure he can get that anywhere he wants; but rather to pacify and corral her. The usual first sign of pregnancy in a TN is fainting & barfing. Adriana was scarfing and less than 24 hours after she did the deed. AA seemed a bit non-plussed. It's dawning on him that he's got himself in over his head with a potential loose cannon.
The second rape trial date is fast approaching since we are already in November now. Team Fatmagul has grown considerably:
Mustafa (if he doesn't escape/get caught for murder beforehand)
Asu/Hacer (if Mustafa can convince her to change her testimony)
Meltem and Ender
And now, secret weapon Perihan (in case "something" happens to Fatma).
jlk- I too love the whole way Fatma handled overhearing Kerim say he wants a divorce, and then trying to make peace and reach out to him. How can he not see how she feels about him?
JdesdeNYC mentioned the other week that Fatma's love language is "actions." She recognizes love by the things that people do, and that's also how she shows love. Kerim's love language, however, seems to be "words." He needs to hear that she loves him, and she's just not ready for that yet. But her actions speak so clearly that she's not just "trying," but that she truly cares for his well-being and loves him. When will he realize that?
thank you ever so much Juanita!
seems like there was a lot of dogpaddling in this episode and we didn't cover much ground.
I think Carmen's miraculous recovery and her refusal to look on Marlene as a threat don't bode well and I don't think (hit on every girl he sees) Andy knows Sofia, but if something does happen to Carmen, Sofia may remember him.
and I assume A (driana) and AA are working on there first child (possibly named aaa) since Adriana has that first time crush that will last forever (Not), but I agree with LXV that the kitchen scene is the marijuana munchies, put in to let the all-knowing maids see that something has changed.
odd that Pablo was carrying a gun.
kind of looks like Edith González (Eva) may have to carry this show.
Loved your recap, Juanita. You did indeed nail it!
Deb, loved the kid named AAA!
Was it possible that Andy actually looked a big guilty on finding out Adriana had been a virgin? He definitely was not thrilled about how madly in love she now is.
Yep, marijuana munchies. I hadn't noticed the bong and was suspecting he'd given her something else.
They may be going for a Sofía transformation. She outright told her dyspeptic mother that she CHOSE the house as her inheritance. I thought it was awful the way Carmen treated Evencio. I always knew Carmen would survive. The writer of this novela can't let the number of villainous and/or distasteful characters drop below 8 or 9.
I loved Pablo being able to beat up the bigger Armando. When Armando roared at him something about HIS wife or maybe he said woman, Pablo shot back that she wasn't his anymore. Armando had lost her.
I'm just not happy about the way Armando and Marlene keep getting away with spreading the tale that Eva has already had sex with Pablo. Why in the world doesn't Eva tell Armando that it was one kiss. She told Marlene, who certainly will never tell anyone else that.
At first I was angry with Martín about blaming Eva for the beating. I half expected him to call in Betty for the hospital comforting. But it had the desired effect. Eva went to Pablo's side.
this show is up to epi 77 in Mexico.
loved seeing Daniela Wong again,
who played the daughter in "Dueños del Paraíso".
excellent recap of the first show here,
http://5ftlatina.com/cohete/
I wish I could burst into the TV and give Fatmagul the biggest hug on earth. She was so vulnerable like china, the scene where she cried after he walked out of her room and then again after he walked into the bathroom I felt so bad for her. Kerim tearing the letter was a sign of letting go like Fatmagul throwing the scarf into the river in season 1. Fatma realized that she needed to do something or Kerim would leave her and she did, that's my girl. Muka actually was useful in this episode, lol. She tried to reassure Fatma that Kerim did not mean it about the divorce. Ok Kerim now stop the nonsense. I remember being so afraid of what Kerim's answer at the end of this episode. I was hoping he didn't spill more nonsense about Mustafa and we had to wait a week to find out, oy. I am happy now it's only the next day for you guys. Even knowing the answer I am having palpitations again.
Thank you Vivi, great job once again.
Romy
Romy- I'm right there with you about wanting to give Fatma a hug. She was really fragile after those encounters, which is why it was so surprising how well and quickly she sprang into action to try to save her marriage.
I'm sorry I left out the scene where Kerim ripped up the letter and let the river take it away. Yes, that was a good first step for him. Let's see if he can continue to come back from the dark and back into the light. As much as what Fahr did was interfering and will tick Kerim off when he finds out, I'm grateful. If there was ever a poster boy for the saying about idle hands and the devil's work, it's Kerim. He needs work to keep him occupied and get him back on track.
Romy....you're right that Mukka was useful for a change but it was self serving. She concerned about her living arrangements...she wants to stay in that mansion. If F&K break-up...she knows the living arrangements will have to change and she's concerned her living arrangements will change again (I'm still bothered by this given that she has money to do her own thing). But non the less...she did try to give Fatma a pep talk.
Today was a slightly better day for the couple. Still not back to where they were but at least Kerim wasn't out drinking and uttering stupid stuff to Fatma. I was disappointed in his actions regarding the sweater. Fatma knit him a sweater that Mukka put on. While it was in the laundry basket...everyone knew she made that sweater for Kerim...but yet Mukka put it own. Even he saw that Fatma was working on it...so I was disappointed that he was disinterested when Fatma asked Mukka why she was wearing it...oh well.
Looks like Mustafa's time is coming to an end....the authorities picked him up today to question him about Vural's death. Can he wiggle out of it this time.
Nett
I'm in the middle of watching the episode now, and my recording shows that it was just an hour (half the episode). I'm assuming they showed the new tn, Quien is Quien, during the second hour, as they did with Eva during its first week. Well, that makes recapping a lot easier! Be back later with a recap.
Apologies for getting to this so late. Many thanks to LXV, deb, novelera, and SpanProf for your very supportive remarks about the recap and your terrific comments about the novela.
Marijuana munchies...duh. I was so fixated on the inappropriateness of Adriana's symptoms as indications of pregnancy that I failed to think further.
Deb, I love aaa, though I hope it doesn't happen. A is NOT ready to be an adult, let alone a mother. And perhaps a single mother at that.
I found it interesting how quickly Soraya changed the topic when Eva started to ask about "the patient." Soraya has been so open about so much, but she seemed not at all eager to talk about what she's doing with/to Arnulfo. The scenes with Arnulfo are the part of the novela I like least. As in not at all.
I can't wait to see tonight's episode. I wonder whether we'll see AA and El Chivo make another attempt to kill Carmen.
Kerim asks Fatmagul if she is she’s sure she doesn’t want a divorce. She says she’s sure. “You don’t know how important it is for me to hear that.” They cut the delicious looking cake and force awkward smiles as they begin their second year of marriage. They return home with the rest of the cake, and Mukaddes gets all up in their business asking why all the drama about a divorce, if they were just going to make up and celebrate their anniversary. Kerim and Fatma continue to be ill at ease with each other. He goes to bed early, first thanking her for the cake. Fatma tries to hold back tears, and also turns in early. Rahmi tries to cheer her up by telling her that he supports whatever decision she makes. “Nothing is more important than your health and your happiness. You can divorce if you want.” Both Fatma and Kerim stay up looking forlornly out their windows. (I’m sure that Murat is happy that this leaves more cake for him.)
Munir meets with Yasar, who updates him on his investigation in Ildir. He’s pretty sure Mustafa’s fisherman friend is covering for him, and that there’s a real chance that Mustafa is the killer. But they also know getting a confession out of Mustafa will be nearly impossible. Munir seems to have an idea for doing this though… In the meantime, Yasar is put in charge of letting Kerim know that Mustafa is a suspect.
Mustafa and Hacer’s dinner is interrupted by a call from Leman. Hacer doesn’t answer, but explains that Leman calls her all the time to talk about Vural. She doesn’t admit that they also meet in person. Mustafa gets nervous, and forbids her from seeing Leman. He reminds her that they leave the country for good in a few weeks. The next day, as he gathers up their passports to get visas, and she vomits, Mustafa mentions looking up countries that don’t require a visa, like Venezuela. Hacer once again says she doesn’t want to leave, but Mustafa doesn’t take no for an answer.
Erdogan is still stalking the beautiful doctor online. Selim tells him to forgetaboutit. They are social pariahs now with the rapist label on their heads. Erdogan starts talking about what ifs. “Maybe this (the rape) would have never happened if I had someone by my side. I want to change myself into a better person. I want to clear my conscious.” Selim reminds him that HE had someone (Meltem), and Erdogan egged them on towards the rape, resulting in him losing Meltem. He tells Erdogan that what they did was unforgivable.
Upstairs in the living room, Perihan coolly plays cards with Hilmiye, while Resat stares daggers at her. He demands to know where “it” (the blackmail dvd and pictures) is. Perihan doesn’t even bat an eye, and lies that it’s locked in her box at the bank.
The next morning, everyone gets ready to go to work on Sunday. Mukaddes takes Kerim’s new sweater off the clothes line, where Rahmi put it, then puts it on. Fatma sees it and asks what Mukaddes is doing with it on. Obviously not realizing the importance of this sweater, Kerim just shrugs off the whole thing. Fatma is clearly disappointed. She’s even more disappointed to see that Kerim is going to work. She thought he was free and that they’d be able to take a walk together. He kind of blithely shrugs this off too. He has to go to work. Fatma follows him to the door to see him off, and they run into Meryem who’s coming in from the garden. He’s still giving Meryem the silent treatment, so Meryem hurries upstairs. Fatma scolds Kerim. “She’s so sad. Why can’t you understand her? She forgave you when you committed an error. She never lost her faith in you.” Kerim just smiles and tells Fatma that she’s trying to solve all their problems in one day. He leaves. Fatma is exasperated. Kadir counsels patience. Fatma goes upstairs and comforts heartbroken Meryem. “Just give him time. You have a special place in his heart. He’ll never stop loving you.” Meryem doesn’t think he’ll be able to forgive her until he forgives his father.
While Kerim is at work, he gets a cryptic call on his cell phone. “I know who the killer is. You didn’t kill Vural. Mustafa did. They were his footprints coming from the sea.” Kerim demands to know who the caller is, but he hangs up. We see Yasar walking away from a payphone. When Kerim calls information, they tell him the call was from a public phone. He calls Fatma, and asks if she got any strange calls. He tells her that if she receives a call from an unknown number, that she not answer and pass the number on to him. He tells her about the call he received and the accusation against Mustafa. Fatma says that Mustafa being the killer is impossible. She and Kerim begin to argue. “Why are you so sure? Was he with you that night? When the police took me away, he was there right by your side!” Fatma has had it. She tells him that this is too much, and hangs up on him.
Knowing he really screwed up, Kerim leaves work and goes to the restaurant. He asks Fatma if she wants to go out. She gives him the cold shoulder and reminds him that HE has to work today, but then she gives in. They get in the car, and he apologizes. “You say you don’t want to hurt me, but look what you’re doing! Why did you say he was with me? I know, you’re upset and confused. But why take it out on me, when I’m making such a huge effort?” Kerim apologizes again, then offers to take Fatm to a place that looks a lot like their town in Ildir.
Before he can drive off to get his and Hacer’s visas, two men in black leather stop Mustafa and tell him he needs to come with them to answer questions about Vural’s murder. They quickly flash badges, then force him into an unmarked van. While driving, over the radio they get word that “his friend talked.” They then tell Mustafa that he’s under arrest, and slap handcuffs on him. Mustafa fights and insists he isn’t the killer. They spray pepper spray into his eyes to subdue him, then take a very bleary eyed Mustafa to a dark and sparse interrogation room. (My dvr cuts off here.)
-End of episode (Part 1 of Turkish episode 47)
Nett- I don't believe that those guys are real police. I think it's part of Munir's plans to get a confession out of Mustafa that they can use against him to blackmail him.
It was a relief to see Kerim go a night alcohol free, but Mustafa continues to be his Achilles heel. Glad he quickly realized he messed up and went to apologize and spend some quality time with Fatma.
I hate Mukkadas.
Was today's epi the first real sign of remorse from the cousins. Unfortunately, they won't turn themselves in and pay the real consequences of their actions. They just keep trying to deflect, lie and play indignant...and I'm tired of their attitude. This family and Munir has so much dirt and blood on their hands and yet they continue on with the insanity and denials.
Vivi..you're right. I remember now that Munir gathered that Mustafa was the murderer...was a fisherman, etc. Focusing on the separation discussion, I forgot about Munir's assertions and plotting. At any rate...Mustafa is in for a ride.
Did I mention I hate Mukkadas.

part 1
as Marlene walks the lawyer out, he congratulates her on on getting Armando to allow her to be the front, and even betters that Armando thought it was his idea.
ok, is the plan here to sell everything that both Eva and Armando own to a front, that he trusts, who then gives it all back to him, but I guess he needs Eva's power of attorney, which Marlene assures him she can get Eva to sign.
Eva is with Pablo at the hospital, kissing, and other mushy things, he says it was all worth it for her to be here with him, he asks her to give him a ride home tomorrow, she will.
when Eva leaves she drops in on the same old Carmen, who continues to blame others for everything, but Eva cuts through it all and tells Carmen, she loves her, and that Carmen loves her, touching her, so she rattles on about the one Eva really loves and treats like a sister, the one that will make her life hell, and when Eva has lost everything... but quietly Eva gets up walks away, as Carmen quietly asks her to stay, pleads with her to stay, come back, (with tears in her eyes) ...don't leave me alone.
Meanwhile Marlene is modeling a new baby doll nighty for Armando, who can't keep his hands off her, slow down she says, I will, some other time.
Martin has come to see Pablo, but seeing Eva he waits his turn, later as he and Pablo talk, I get the idea this was the result that Martin had in mind when he went to see Eva, and Pablo is on to him. Oh and Martin has seen a judge friend and has taken care of Armando, this won't happen again.
Eva has returned home to see Adriana still munching, remembering that she was on a diet.
Later a tough looking cop shows up at Armando's, talks of Pablo's beating and how every one heard Armando threaten him, Armando is all talk to my lawyer, but the cop says no one is filing a complaint, but if so much as Pablo sprains his ankle, they are going to be all over Armando, whoa.
and Eva, back at work is busy running the show, on the phone with the auditors ?? while Marlene gives her a bunch of papers to sign, starts, stops, starts, then tells Marlene later, but hangs on to the papers as Marlene tries to drag them away, and later sees the power of attorney giving every thing she has to Armando, wow head explosion.
meanwhile bouncing Betty is off for her fertility treatments, of which she has not told Pablo, her periods are horrendous, she no longer has a boyfriend, she wants to stop, the Doctora is ok with that, because you are pregnant. boo, hiss, boo
*[bouncing betty- a german land mine when triggered, these mines launch into the air and then detonate at about 3ft].
part 2
Eva makes a beeline for Marlene's office and blows up on her, remembering what Carmen said, and seeing through all of Marlene's playing dumb tricks, then its off to see Armando for a face to face, (including a slap) wow, there is absolutely no doubt this relationship is over, if he isn't going to do the 50-50 split fair and square, she is going to take it all right and legal.
Pancho is on a tour of the golf club with one of the directors and gets across that he has a ton of money, who at the next board meeting overrides the Monteverde's complaints.
Soraya sets up a camera in tio Arnulfo's room, why? this is for when you want to make your confession, she says, (wow this guy is really paying the price for being Ericks father in his last life)
Betty has it all figured that with all the love Pablo showers on Diego, once he sees this baby, he will be all hers.
later Marlene slithers into Eva's office to make things all well again, Eva's not buying it this time, but the lawyers here and Marlene who thought she would be joining them is wrong. Eva asks Alberto Abogado about the divorce papers, do you have them with you, nope, will you have them this afternoon, nope, pulls out her checkbook and asks how much do I owe you, cause we're done.
Cinthia and Robert are home ranting on Pancho joining the club and about how much money he has, he's even the owner of the LA soccer club Coyotes, Coyotes ?? bobby junior overhears, that's his favorite club.
Betty is off to Mon-Sol to give Pablo the good news, what he doesn't work here?, what he got beat up?, what he is in the hospital?
Alberto, Marlene, and Armando meet to lick there wounds, (wow, Marlene's whole plan is out the window) and the lawyer warns them, they need to respect their enemy, and is Armando beginning to suspect Marlene as well, are you in this for me, or for you, he asks?
Pablo is being discharged and Eva floats in to give him a ride as promised, how are you?, I was on death's doorstep until you came into the room, Pablo replies, she rushes in for a hug, and as they break she explains how she can't trust anyone any more except her daughters and Pablo (did anyone hear a big GULP, because Pablo was planning on telling her he was investigating her company and so now he doesn't)
Adriana rushes home from school for some more marijuana and Andy, he'll help her with that uncomfortable uniform.
and as our real lovebirds leave the hospital, after a pause, they kiss for the second time in public, what could possibly go wrong here, I suppose we can ask Betty who just pulled up in her car.
fabulous, deb! I loved your remark about Arnulfo paying the price for being Erick's father in his past life. Pablo's got more gulping to do when he finds out about "bouncing Betty's" little science project. Could they have made her more annoying? Edith Gonzales is starting to turn into a real fiera. Also, I'm totally with you on the Soraya-Arnulfo thing. I realize she's got an axe to grind, but it all seems so over the top to me. I'm expecting Bobby won't be snobby like his ma & pa. Maybe that's the way he'll start to get acquainted with his verdaderos padres. (if only Soraya would calm down a little).
Fantastic recap, deb! A delight to read and very helpful. MANY THANKS!!
It's hard to pick out the parts I liked best, since I'd basically be repeating your recap. But certainly "Bouncing Betty" was truly inspired, and I loved your explanation of why Arnulfo is suffering so much. Over and over again, I was struck by your perfect choice of words, be it a single word such as "Marlene slithers" or a single sentence that captures so much so smoothly: "Betty is off to Mon-Sol to give Pablo the good news, what he doesn't work here?, what he got beat up?, what he is in the hospital?"
And the slap count keeps rising.
Deb, you outdid yourself! Loved every paragraph! Really funny about Arnulfo’s suffering being because he was Erick’s awful daddy.
I needed last night’s episode to get me back in the game. I was sick to death of Marlene’s successful efforts to ruin Eva’s life. [Although, in retrospect, she did her a big favor setting up her finding Armando in flagrante delicto with Sofía and putting her on the road to getting rid of the cad.]
I loved Eva’s scenes with both Armando and Marlene. With that guy it’s all about the sex, isn’t it? He just kept harping on the fact that she was going to bed with Pablo, as if that were the only important thing. And he deserved two or three slaps à la Carmen for all that ragging on the age difference. I definitely thought Jorge Luis portrayed that she hit him where he lives a couple of times with the things she said to him, especially the part about his being the major disillusion of her life. He’s mad now, but some part of him still wants her esteem, if not her love.
I was SO glad to see her kick that crooked lawyer to the curb.
I hope they’re not going with Adriana becoming addicted to marijuana. Supposedly it’s not addictive, although heavy use for years can have some negative effects on a youthful brain. I just hate every scene the girl is in, so I suppose she’s doing a good job.
We saw a flicker of Bobby the Good when he talked about the Coyotes. I believe this WILL be the key to his becoming closer to his real parents.
Gah! Betty’s pregnant. Didn’t we just see Felicia on fertility drugs and turning up pregnant after the guy she wanted had moved on? Except Betty is 100 times more annoying than Felicia ever was.
Romy
Romy- Yeah, I wasn't feeling any sympathy for the cousins. First of all, neither one of them has EVER thought about how they destroyed Fatma's life. Not once. Yet, now they're all boohoo about how THEIR lives have been destroyed by the crime THEY committed. Give me a break! Yep. Very easy to turn themselves in if they really want to "clean" their conscience. Of course they won't do that.
Mukaddes is like a cancer in that family, and I detest the way she's wormed herself into the big house, AND still has everyone serving her because she's pregnant. It's almost worse than before!
¿Qué Culpa Tiene Fatmagul? Friday 2/12/2012
Part I of II
Fatma and Kerim are forced to share a bedroom at the inn they visited due torrential rain. Fatma looks at the small room with the big spacious bed with shock. Kerim begs the innkeeper for a separate room for him and nearly gets it but the innkeeper has to accomodate stranded tourists.
Munir tells Mustafa there's no hope for him since he has his and Hacer's passports. They finally will have to do what he says. Hacer calls Mustafa at this moment and Mustafa angrily waves off her worry. "We'll talk when I get home," he exclaims.
Fatma and Kerim play twenty questions to "get to know each other better," Kerim says, obviously trying to calm Fatma's fear of sharing a bed with him. They ask each other basic questions, their favorite foods and colors; childhood teachers and best friends. They get to the nitty gritty after Kerim asks how she met Mustafa. Fatma asks him if he still wants to break up with her. Kerim says "No." Kerim asks Fatma if she loves him. He quickly retracts the question, apologizing to Fatma for "forcing her," and runs out the room to the inn's fireplace. With Kerim out the room, Fatma answers the question. "Sí, te amo," "Yes, I love you."
Back in Istanbul, Kadir and Meryem are speaking, and as always, the metiche de Mukkades is listening in from the stairwell, eating a snack as if she's watching a soap opera. Kadir tells Meryem that he'll be more aggressive since the trial is in three weeks. He reported the mysterious call Kerim received and he will also file it away in their files. It won't help their legal case as anyone could have called. Farrehtin calls Meryem and lets her know his daughter, Kerim's sister, wants to meet him.
Erdogan speaks with the pretty doctor he has been stalking on social media. They speak for an hour and plan a date. The good doctor begins to Google search Erdogan and sees the rape accusations reports.
Fatma goes downstairs to the inn's fireplace to look about Kerim. She finds him already sneezing from being soaking wet. She implores him to go up to their room to change and dry his clothes while she stays by the fireplace. Kerim refuses, saying he'll dry off by the fireplace and leave her comfortably in the room.
After threatening Mustafa, Munir and Resat get him to work for them until the trial. When he gets home Mustafa explains the elaborate trap los Yasaran set for him. They had some paroled criminals pretend to be police and they compelled Mustafa to confess to killing Vural.
Hacer tells him to turn himself so as not to be the Yasaran's slave. If he doesn't he will always be their lapdog. Mustafa refuses because they think Hacer helped him and she will get in trouble as well. Hacer ponders aloud what if she confesses his crime to the police. Mustafa says outright he will kill her if she does. "I have no doubt you would do it," Hacer says, finally realizing that "Me, Me Me Mustafa," (thanks, Vivi) will always look out for number 1, himself, and never her. Later, when Mustafa is asleep, she looks at her packed suitcases and makes a call. She quietly flees the apartment and has Sami pick her up. "Get me out of here," she simply tells her only friend.
In Ankara are Ender and Meltem and Meltem gets a call from her cousin Gaye. She tells Gaye she picked up Turaner's personal effects from his office. Meltem then calls Mustafa to see if he's alright since Hacer called him worried he was missing. He lies to Meltem that he came home late after meeting with shareholders all day but he's fine. He seeks out Hacer and finds she's gone. All that remains is a "dear John" letter. "Don't call me, don't follow me; don't condemn me to this suffering," the letter implores.
At the inn, Fatma wakes up to find out from one of the tourists that Kerim went out with the innkeeper and the other male guests to clear the road before the inn of all the debris the storm left behind. As he drives back from clearing the road with the innkeeper, Kerim is obviously sick as he sneezes. He tells the innkeeper he slept by the inn fireplace to dry off but still got sick. The innkeeper wonders why he didn't sleep with his wife. Kerim says it's a complicated issue. They will have a real wedding in spring.
Fatma walks in the woods around the inn enjoying the scenery. She calls home to Istanbul and marvels to them how pretty the area is. As soon as she hangs up, Fatma encounters a homeless man who follows her rambling. Fatma is of course horrified and starts running scared through the woods. "Help me!" she loudly exclaims.
