Chivo won’t be getting a call-up for the Navy Seals anytime soon. Even with a scope he only manages a flesh wound shooting at Pablo. [Of course we have to admit that Pablo has protagonist mojo working for him.] Pablo even taunts him for being such a lousy shot (mala puntería). Eventually Pablo shoots him right in the forehead. Sadly this saves Andy and Marlacula from Chivo ratting them out.
Armando overeggs the pudding begging the cops to find out who killed poor innocent Sofía. Eva is led past in handcuffs and gives Armando a look that I’m surprised doesn’t stop his heart.
Pancho waves some files at Robert that prove that he’s trying to cheat incautos (gullible persons). He goes on to say that he might be raza e inculto (mestizo rather than of European blood and uncultured) but he’s no menso.
Of course Betty swans in to interrogate Eva. Sadly, I don’t think Eva’s ever laid eyes on her so as to out her as a scorned woman.
Robert tells Pancho he’ll get the country club to kick him out over this, but Pancho waves the file and says he’ll show them this. Pancho then surprises me by saying he’s going to pull Robert’s business out of the ditch. He goes on to say that Bobby will be his (Pancho’s) represenative in the business. Robert says he’s a baby and useless besides. Pancho tells Robert Bobby is the only honest one in his household!
Eva smells something off about Betty from the beginning. She asks her why she’s so sure she did it; was she there? Betty lays out her evidence in the nastiest possible way, and Eva asks her why she’s so aggressive.
The police take Pablo away about the shooting, and we get the mirror image of Eva’s arrest: Diego freaking out as much as Fabiola did.
Eva has definitely caught on that Betty has a huge axe to grind. She calls her on it, and Betty looks nervously at the cop who’s still in the room. FINALLY, Eva shuts up and demands a lawyer. Her lawyer, Nestor Andrede, has been hired by Soraya. She tells the guy she’s innocent.
Outside the interrogation room Fajardo, the policeman, tells Betty that she has no objectivity about this case. Marisol agrees and tells Betty that the last thing she cares about is justice.
We get a series of the most outrageous scenes I can imagine [And I’m a veteran!]. Pablo has shot a known killer-for-hire who has showed up in his front yard with a rifle and scope to kill him. But Pablo is treated like a criminal. His old boss says something about sending him to Internal Affairs. Hello? He’s not in the police any more. I got the impression maybe they were trying to squeeze him to join back up by making it so hard on him.
Bobby comes to comfort Adriana. He can stand to put his arm around her because she’s no longer wearing the abominable sweater.
Marlacula and Armando enter Mon-Sol as if the Pale One hadn’t resigned her job. Armando isn’t doing too well seeing the blood at the crime scene.
When Marisol points out that Eva dumped Armando and was in love with Pablo so why would she have killed Sofía for jealousy, Betty says it was for vengeance. Marlene tells her that the only vengeance she sees is Betty’s against Eva and because Pablo loves Eva!
At Mon-Sol they’ve found Eva’s letter opener, with blood all over it.
Marlacula is gloating too much over Eva’s fate and Armando calls her on how much she’s enjoying it. He asks her what Eva ever did besides save her life to make her hate her so much. She says she hates her kindness. And that Eva got everything and she herself lost everything.
[I wonder when we’ll find out how Marlacula got from having taken all of Reynaldo’s money and getting him to cop to the money laundering to having the house re-possessed and trying to commit suicide. Methinks it could have something to do with Andy.]
Eva blurts out to Betty and Fajardo the cop that the letter opener weapon is hers. Yikes, Eva!
I love the way, in telenovelas, that whenever a character turns on the TV, it’s always the news that’s on and only the news having to do with the plot! In this case Andy finds out that Chivo is dead and Pablo alive. He completely freaks out. He’s worried Chivo lived long enough to incriminate him. Marlene assures him he'd have already been in the slammer if Chivo had talked.
Eva remembers throwing that letter opener out the open window while Marlene was standing there. The penny drops. ¡Es Marlene!
Adriana has come to the guest house to throw herself onto the bosom of the viper. Marlene says how good Eva is, but impulsive, hinting she might have killed Sofía.
Javier comes to Mon-Sol to sign his death warrant; i.e., to ask Armando again for his job back and a big raise. Marlene takes him to her office, but we don’t get the conversation tonight.
Pablo asks Martín, who’s managed to visit his son because of his long years on the force, to visit Eva. He does so, bringing her fresh fruit and telling her why Pablo hasn’t come. La muy terca says she’s through with Pablo.
Armando has decided to move back into his house. Adriana goes off on him. After a huge fight, he throws her out of her home.
Some idiot police shrink drives me nuts with stupid questions and Pablo even nutser (not really a word, but it’s what came to mind).
Marlene tells Andy to get busy buying those tickets to NY. Adriana is shown packing her suitcase. Armando feels bad, but Marlene does a masterful job of manipulating him. She tells him it will be good for Adriana to be on her own and convinces him to give her a great whack of money to go to college in NY so she can learn responsibility. We see Andy grinning from the next room. I don’t think Adriana will really leave LA; but if she did, I doubt that money would last long! Fabiola is distraught and doesn’t want her sister to leave.
Pablo beats up a whole bunch of cops and escapes to the police garage. He asks Fajardo to help him. Maybe Fajardo was his partner before?
terrific recap noverera !!!
hmm, I was thinking that getting caught for the money laundering was the cause for Marlene losing everything, even Andy went to jail, and led to her suicide, plotwise they just kind of throw stuff at us.
Pancho is a pretty neat character, he was explaining to Robert how going to jail was the cause for him no longer being naive, as we then see Eva going to jail.
and I think he also tells Robert he is an expert at making failing companies succeed as Robert is an expert at making them fail.
that's a neat twist having Bobby manage the companies, but Robert will have none of that, but does he have a choice.
I don't think the psych guy was going to do Pablo any favors the way he was comparing both Pablo and Eva as killers, which was what prompted Pablo to leave (although I'm not clear why they were holding him, it sounded like it was initially over his gun permit), and I like how the Jefe said he was the best, but being wanted will surely complicate things.
PART I
The day of the trial arrives. Fatmagul enters confident as a crowd of women protesters come out in a massive show of support for Fatma. As they yell, "No more rapes!", they also let Fatma know they believe and support her.
The Yasaran, of course, see the huge crowd of women supporting Fatma and try to intimidate Fatma and her family. "Don't trust so much in the crowd," Resat says; "Look at them, they look like celebrities," taunts Munir, as Mukaddes walks by in a new shift dress. This all nearly boils over into physical violence as Mukaddes spits back that she will not be intimidated and Meryem adds that the Yasaran are upset because no one is one their side. Their wives and women, Perihan and Hilmiyen are not at the courthouse to support their sons because they are ashamed. Once Leman and Meltem testifies, Meryem adds, los Yasaran are through. Erdogan tries to leer and jeer at Fatma, and of course, this sets Kerim off. Kadir and Farehttin calms down the combatants and Fatma and co head to the courtroom while los Yasaran stay outside.
As los Yasaran wait outside the courtroom they confer: they got Mustafa to work on Meltem to not testify and Perihan worked on Leman to convince to not testify either. Then they get a call that bursts their bubble: Perihan and Leman got in a car accident. Resat and Selim look devastated while Erdogan, not so much.
In the courtroom, Fatma comments how the strong show of support by the massive crowd of women made her strong and how in a week their lives have changed.
We flashback to a week before the trial. Kerim and Fatma are happily going to the therapist and after one appointment as they walk home they wonder why they can't speak honestly and forthrightly with each other without the therapist. They then promise to always tell each other the truth, no matter what, just as they do in therapy.
In a cafe, Musta tries to convince Meltem not to testify for Fatma because their affair will be exposed since los Yasaran other goon Yasar was following them when they hooked up. She'll end up in the same embarrassing position as her Dad. Fatma will win without her testimony since the women's associations are supporting her, she has her lawyers, but Meltem has no one to support her. Farehttin is at a nearby table and overhears enough of the conversation to know Mustafa is playing both sides.
He later stops by Fatma and co's to tell them Mustafa is working again for los Yasaran. Kerim starts to get angry, Farehttin tells him to calm down and Kerim calls his father's motives into question. "All this show of support is to confuse us. I don't need your investigators or security around me," Kerim says dismissively. "We've always managed on our own." Deniz gets upset at Kerim's dismissive tone telling him, "Why are you so tough on our dad? He's putting in so much effort to help you. How can you be so ungrateful?" Fahrettin stops Deniz right there with a "Don't speak to your brother that way," and then both take their leave.
Later that night Kerim is in Kadir's office searching through some legal paperwork on their case and Fatma shows up asks why Kerim is looking through the paperwork. "I don't want my mind to be blank when the trial starts. This helps me to remember." He looks at Fatma in her conservative nightgown in a way that purposefully scares her off and Fatma realizes she is, in her way, "naked " in front of Kerim and she goes back to bed. As soon as she runs off Kerim finds what he was really searching for, Mustafa's address.
Kerim shows up at Mustafa's place bright and early the next day. Mustafa's mother is the one who opens the door and she realizes quickly that all is not well. Why are you here to visit my son she asks? Mustafa pops in the room and says Kerim is a friend. Kerim simply says, "outside, downstairs," to let Mustafa know he has to speak with him. Kerim chews Mustafa out for being a traitor who sold his dignity. He asks Mustafa if living in his apartment and driving a luxury car was worth betraying Fatma. He also lets Mustafa know then Yasaran are double-crossing him because they told him he was the one who killed Vural. Mustafa
does not to take the bait and admit he killed Vural but he is surprised Kerim knows he killed Vural. Kerim promises to kill him if he doesn't stop playing both sides.
Kerim calls home to Fatma after his visit to Mustafa and Fatma finagles out of him, using their promise to tell each other the truth thay he went to see Mustafa. She chastises him, Kerim apologizes but only for not letting Fatma know about his plan. Kerim them takes Fatma on a driving lesson and some paparrazi snaps photos of her being happily taught to drive by Kerim.
Resat tells Mustafa to stop Semsi and Leman from arriving at court. He suggests sickening them, causing their car to break down half way to the court, something!
Back to the present with the courtdate in Izmir and Resat and Selim Yasaran are distraught due to Perihan's accident. Omer finds out about the accident and tells Fatma and Kadir. Outside the courtroom Dr Nil, that's Erdogan's stalkee, gets busted by Meryem for showing up at the court and the restaurant. She reveals she was getting to know Erdogan and wanted to know the truth about the case for herself. Meltem tells Nil to run for her life from los Yasaran. "They are an awful family," she tells Nil, and counsels her earnestly to not make the same mistake she did getting involved with the family. Nil walks off in response. "I hope she takes my advice," Meltem says.
Inside the courtroom Munir calls for a cancellation of the day's proceedings since Perihan and Leman were injured.
Resat is at the hospital and is told by a nurse that Semsi has died even has Leman and Perihan suffered serious injuries. When he visits Leman he asks how the accident happened to ensure Mustafa hasn't tried to kill his wife. Leman lets him know the accident was caused by Semsi driving their car in the wrong lane after the shock of hearing Leman was going to testify for the prosecution.
Mukaddes admits she took money from los Yasaran in exchange for Selim's ring because she was scared of their power. She also notes it was her idea to marry off Kerim and Fatma to "clean" her name but Munir helped her by making the legal arrangements.
Munir notes the dirt of Fatma's witnesses: Meltem, who we don't see testify but is in the courtroom, cheated on her husband with Mustafa and concludes that the witnesses don't tell the same story and are out to hurt los Yasaran. Mukaddes took the Yasarans money is out for more. Kadir retorts that he wants the cell records of all involved in the rape to prove that they were at the scene of the rape. They want justice and won't allow an innocent woman to be victimized.
Verdict: The next court date is 13 June 2012. There's no verdict because the judge wants to investigate Kadir's demands that Leman testify for Fatma and the Yasaran boys' phone records handed over to prove if they were at the scene of the crime that night. Once those facts come forward, and appropriate sentence can be made. (Seems the judge thinks the boys are guilty but is waiting for more evidence to back up his hunch).
Aftermath: Kerim comforts Fatma but all she wants to do is go home to Istanbul and be in her restaurant. Since they're in their hometown Fatma says she and Kerim should visit their deceased parents' graves, even that of his mother. They visit the cemetery and at his mother' grave Kerim says internally, "I can't forgive you mom even though I want to. I can't forgive you because there was one thing important to you and it wasn't me which caused me to come apart at the seams (desmonar). Some day I'll forgive you. I'll come back and visit when I have forgiven you, when my heart is at peace. I hope you understand."
Reading Kerim's mind Fahrettin tells Kerim he learned to forgive his mother. He had to, knowing that Meryem raised Kerim and how he wants forgiveness from Kerim too, so much so that he even wrote responses to the unanswered letters he wrote to Kerim. "If you'll allow a stranger in your life," Farehttin says referring to himself, "I'll be here waiting for you." Kerim runs off angrily, telling Farehttin to leave him in peace.
The press turns on Fatmagul. The papparazzi that took happy pics of Fatma and Kerim as she learned to drive use them to make it look as if Fatma doesn't care about her case. They call her false, since she looked sad and pale on the court date, and happy and carefree after. They accuse her of seeking celebrity. (The pics were taken before the court date, by the way.) Meryem tells Fatma the Yasaran turned the papers against her.
Deniz comes by to say goodbye to Kerim and to leave her and her Dad's contact information if he wants it. Deniz looks like she wants hug and hit her brother all at once but refrains. Kerim is obviously uncomfortable at the whole situation, too. His face shows a glimpse of shock and sadness that Deniz is leaving, but then he reverts to his sad and grumpy expression when it comes to his father.
Hacer is still hiding out at Farehttin's country home even though Farehttin is heading back to Australia. Farehttin tells Hacer that even though he' s going back to Australia, his eyes and ears are still in Turkey. Hacer thanks Farehttin for all he's done for her. But as soon as Mumtaz drives off with Farehttin, Mustafa shows up in the cabin, scaring the stuffing out of Hacer.
Kerim calls Farehttin as he leaves the country house and asks when his flight leaves. He tells him the time but he's curious why Kerim wants to know when his flight is leaving and Kerim says, "Maybe I'll show up to say goodbye, papa." Farehttin tears up at hearing Kerim call him "papa" since he's come from Australia and tells him he'll see him the next day. Kerim smiles and turns and looks at Fatma, who's obviously supportive of the father and son reconciliation.
END OF CAPITULO
Thanks so much, J! This was wonderful.
Well, we knew Fatma couldn't win this early, so I'm just grateful that it wasn't a total loss. I don't think I fully believe that Mustafa didn't cause the accident. I know Leman said it was because of the argument, but I just don't trust Mustafa. He followed all the other Yasaran orders. Why wouldn't he follow the one to stop Leman from testifying? None of them knew Perihan would be with her. RIP, Semsi. That family is dropping like flies.
Ugh! Hated those reporters stalking Kerim and Fatma-- even to the therapy session. And the way they twisted Fatma's happy moments. Like she supposed to be sad every moment of her life. Like she doesn't have the right to be happy ever again. I did love that Fahr put his man on duty watching out for Fatma and Kerim.
Cute moments: Kerim teaching Fatma to drive, and Kerim admitting his suddenly desire to run his fingers through her hair, and Fatma allowing it.
Thanks so much, novelera, for this splendid perfect-length recap. It helped me a lot, especially with the dealings between Pancho and Robert. And, of course, I greatly appreciate the Spanish.
I loved your saying that Betty "swans in" to interrogate Eva. What an unmitigated perra she is! I confess I was disappointed in the writers for making this encounter so absurdly over the top...until I got to the detention of Pablo! That made Betty almost seem within the realm of believability. Almost. Well, somewhat. Well.... I'm at a loss for words about how I hated the way the writers dealt with the aftermath of Pablo's 100% obviously justified shooting of Chivo. Boooooooooooooooo!
I like your suggestion that perhaps Marlene's reversal of fortune in the past may have somehow involved Andy. That hadn't occurred to me, but surely all the incestuous gestures sprinkled throughout the novela thus far are probably leading somewhere. Then again, after last night's massive failure on the part of the writers, who knows whether anything leads anywhere.
So in addition to The Only Hospital in Los Angeles and The Only Police Station in Los Angeles, we also see that poor backwater Los Angeles has only one TV station, an all-news station that deals exclusively with breaking news on the telenovela.
Actually, I didn't mind that Eva readily admitted that the dagger/letter opener was hers. First, because it shows she tells the truth, and second, because it has her prints on it from past use, so there's no point in her pretending it's not hers. Also, as deb has pointed out, last night's episode shows that prison improves one's savvy, as we see not just in Pancho's case but also in Eva's. His enlightenment may have taken some time, but hers comes almost as soon as the cell door closes. Or perhaps it's the clothes? I wonder whether she'll also remember that she threw out her cell phone along with the dagger.
(BTW, one small correction. In the first paragraph of the recap's Parte 2, you say "Marlene" where you clearly mean "Marisol." No biggie, but I thought I'd mention it in case there's an easy way to change it.)
Gracias novelera that was a top-rate recap. I relished every turn of phrase
"Chivo won’t be getting a call-up for the Navy Seals anytime soon"
"Sadly,..." There are a lot of "sadly"s lately. But our hero(ine)s have to get buried in deep before the whole thing begins to unwind.
Thanks for sharing your reactions over the treatment of Pablo in custody. I was wondering what I was not understanding. Glad you confirmed it was way over the top.
Yay, 3 cheers for Marisol! I'm grateful that somebody is calling Betty on her Bitchery.
"Methinks it could have something to do with Andy.]" woo-hoo! Ya think? They both creep me out, how close they are. Whether it's actual incest or just creepy criminality, they are an appalling pair.
Actually not so bad that Eva claimed the letter opener. She made no attempt to conceal that it was her property, so when the huellas prove positive, she has not shown herself to be evasive.
The simmering conflict about Bobby's origins nearly burst out last night with Cynthia warning Robert to shut up. No wonder the poor kid was wondering about the discrepancy in his blood type after science class last semester. The Monteverdes vs. the Mogollóns will be an very heated subplot. I'm liking the casting in this; not exactly subtle, but quite apt IMO.
There is something I remembered and forgot to put in the recap. It was when Katy Barbieri (forgot her character's name) was all over Robert for almost slipping up about Bobby not being their bio kid. Robert started to say something about not knowing where the kid came from when she cut him off. It seemed to me to indicate that Katy (real name someone) arranged buying the baby from Arnulfo and Robert didn't know how. Or even possibly they could have married after she had adopted Bobby and that was meant by him as a slur on her having borne a child out of wedlock. Anyway, he obviously was not thrilled about being a father.
ok, I think Marlene's plan is,
1)get rid of Eva (pretty much done)
2) get rid of her girls, Adriana spending a couple of months in NY with Andy should finish her off, and the scariest moment of the night, Marlene tells Armando she will take care of Fabiola, I bet she will, did she mention earlier something about institutionalizing her?
3) get rid of Armando
and it's back into the big house with Andy, and looking for a new victim.
novelera- I seem to remember in the flashback a couple in a big car picking up baby bobby. (Katy plays Cinthia, as in sin, Monteverde)

Romy- This great recap was done by JdesdeNYC. Thanks for the confirmation that Mustafa didn't have anything to so with the accident. He just looks so shady and I trust nothing about him now.
Yes, I want to slap Kerim for losing it every time with the Yasaran and with Mustafa. How many times will he threaten to KILL one of them in public and in front of public officials (police) and media?! OMG! And this is after he's been thrown in jail for being suspected of killing one of them, and not being totally off the hook with that yet. Shut up, Kerim!
Romy- We were writing at the same. Not mad at all that you thought J's awesome recap was mine. :)
Fahrettin getting all teary when Kerim called him papa, made me teary too. It was what they both needed. They still have a long way to go in healing their relationship, but Kerim wasn't doing himself any favors by holding on to the anger. It was bleeding into and messing up his other relationships, and that's no way to live.

I plan to do some kind of recap of tonight's episode. Probably on the short side, but I won't know until I do it. :-)
So..the folks who can really make a difference in the case by telling the facts and getting this over with, Vural and his dad are dead...and Leman is near death.
I too thought the driving scene was cute...I hate the paparazzi turned it into something bad. Fatma has the right to go on with her life and learning to drive is innocent enuf.
Poor MEstafa. He's caught between a rock and a hard place...you kind of want to feel sorry for him sometimes but then again, he brought all this down on himself by being weak and now he's stuck. He's trying to play both sides of the coin but that's not going to work....somethings got to give.
4:53 post today was Nett.....Sorry for rushing and not signing off. Must say K is getting on my nerve with his outburst and jealous reactions. He said he's grown into man now but he definitely needs anger management classes cause he has now control...and that's not mature of strategic given the circumstances. He should not let the Y's or MEstaffa push his buttons so easily...especially the Y's because he's suppose to know better. At least with MEstafa, you can blame it on the jealousy but it's still tiring. Today the court seen with him was disappointing. I guess we're suppose to see how emotional and passionate everyone is at this time.
Deb, thanks for reminding me that a couple picked up the infant Bobby from Arnulfo. I can't review what Robert said to Cinthia last night that caused me to wonder if he wasn't in the know about where the kid came from because I delete episodes after watching. But she shushed him once when he started to say something about Bobby not being theirs and then I thought he made an additional crack something like "God only knows where he came from." I suppose he could have been in the car with Cinthia and just never knew whose child Arnulfo had procured and that's what he meant last night. Maybe it was a snobby remark about Bobby not being a "blue blood".
Part 1:
Fahrettin has just been brought to tears by Kerim phoning him to say he’ll come see him off at the airport the next morning, and calling him Papa as they end the call. But despite the tears, the Gray Fox is still sharp eyed enough to catch the fresh car tracks leading down a small side trail to the house. He has Mumtaz follow them, and they quietly sneak up to the house.
Inside, Mustafa is demanding in a very menacing way that Hacer tell him why she left him, hid from him, and wrote that letter to Kerim’s dad. Hacer cringes from him, and promises that she won’t rat him out (about murdering Vural). Fahr and Mumtaz enter and tell Mustafa to get the hell out, but he continues on and on about how he LOVES Hacer and the baby they are expecting, would never hurt her, and how all of this was just a big misunderstanding. Fahr confronts Mustafa about being a double agent for the Yasaran, who he knows are holding his passport hostage. Mustafa denies, denies, denies. Then he gets a lucky break when Selim calls him, and (on speaker phone) accuses Mustafa of causing the accident that hurt his mom. Mustafa uses this to show Fahr that the Yasaran wouldn’t be accusing him if he worked for them.
Fahr doesn’t seem convinced, but leaves it up to Hacer if she wants to return with Mustafa. Mustafa starts laying on the love talk thick, about how their destinies are linked and he needs her. And that fool Hacer decides to go back to him! Fahr lets Mustafa know that his eyes in Turkey will be on him, and tells Hacer he’s there for her if she needs him.
Back in the city, things are not going well for Team Fatmagul. The media have turned against her, publishing negative stories about her living it up, instead of being a sad, downtrodden victim 24 hours a day. This ticks off Fatma, and she wonders, “Why should I hide as if I were a criminal?” She goes to work at the restaurant, and Meltem and her mom are waiting for her. It’s not good news. Meltem is tired of the press hounding her, especially about her love life (Mustafa), so she is dropping off the team. She won’t testify again. They will continue to support Fatma anonymously through the non-profit agencies supporting Fatma’s cause.
The next blow to the team is Leman totally losing the last of her marbles. She sees Selim through the window of the hospital in Izmir, and thinks he’s Vural. She even sees Vural in the room. She smashes her hand through the window and has to be sedated and restrained. Kadir has to leave the hospital and Izmir without ever getting a statement from her. Munir and Resat decide to take advantage of this, and have her doctors declare her incompetent and give them the paperwork. Even if she gives Kadir a statement, it will be invalid.
Back in Casa Yasaran, Erdogan, stinging from the rejection of Dr. Nil, is also having a breakdown. He smashes up flowerpots on the patio and screams that he did it (the rape), and that what’s happening is that damn woman’s (Fatma) fault. The loyal housekeeper Yadegar hears all, and after that can’t stop giving the Yasaran boys side eye.
Mustafa’s mom is not happy to see Hacer. She refuses to stay in the same house as that whore! Mustafa tells her Hacer is carrying her grandchild. That shuts her up, but doesn’t make her happy. Hacer goes to speak with her. “I’ve closed one chapter (of my life) and started another. Asu doesn’t exist anymore. Mustafa’s wife is Hacer.”
The next morning, Kerim and the whole family goes to the airport to see Deniz and Fahr off. The Gray Mafia are also there, and Fahr makes sure to instruct them to keep an eye on his son’s family and to help them. When everyone arrives, it’s cheerful hugs all around. Fatma gives Deniz a packet of handmade handkerchiefs as a gift. Deniz has the whole group take a picture, and takes a picture of Kerim, Fahr and Fatma. Kerim steps away from the group at one point and Fahr follows. He shows Fahr the picture of himself, Fahr and his mother—the picture where he cut out Fahr’s face when he was a boy.
“This empty space is my childhood, Papa. The emptiness I fell into each night before going to sleep, and every time I thought about my mother and my family. Ebe Nine tried to fill that emptiness, but even so, it just kept getting bigger. Yes, I know it’s ugly. But I still don’t know how to fill that hole that I cut out when I was a kid.” Fahr thinks he can, and Kerim agrees to try. Fahr envelopes Kerim in a big, weepy man hug. He then speaks to Meryem/Ebe: “You’ve raised a great man. Thank you.” “His next stop is Kadir: “My son sees you as a father and you’ve opened your home and heart to him.” Finally, he speaks to Fatma: “Now, I’m also your father, and I’ll always be here for you whenever you need me.” He goes back to Kerim: “This isn’t a goodbye son. It’s a new beginning.” He then pulls him into three big bear hugs, each followed by a teary, heartfelt kiss on the cheek. Kerim accepts the hugs and kisses, but does all he can not to cry or let any emotion show.
As the family leaves the airport, they spot Resat and Selim Yasaran on the arrivals level below, coming back from Izmir, speaking smugly to the press. Resat promises a press conference later that day at the hospital (where Perihan is being transferred).
Kerim and Fatma drive alone, while the rest of the family drives with Kadir. It’s obvious to Fatma that Kerim is struggling to keep his emotions in check. Especially when Deniz texts him a photo of him and Fahr together. He suggests the movies as a distraction and the whole family goes. Sinem, the reporter, calls to tell Fatma about the Yasaran press conference. The family decides to take a break from it all and just enjoy the movies for a few hours. Not easy, when there are fan girls in the theater who approach Fatma: “Our hearts are with you. You’re so brave.”
Inside the theater, while watching a sentimental movie about family, Kerim can no longer hold back the emotions from his farewell with his father. He begins to weep uncontrollably. Fatma, sitting next to him, also can’t hold back tears seeing him cry so openly. She takes his hand to let him know she’s with him.
Meanwhile, Resat Yasaran is dragging Fatma’s name through the mud in his press conference: “Fatmagul cheated on her boyfriend with Kerim, and when they were found out, she called rape…. Fatmagul started her business with the money we gave her. We even helped get her ex off her back by giving him a job. But she just kept asking for more money, and when we wouldn’t give it to her, she decided to retaliate. If this terrible thing had happened, and he (Kerim) were involved, then Fatmagul wouldn’t have married him. Why do you think she’s with him?”
By the time the family gets home, a mob of media is blocking the entrance of the house. They rush inside. Murat is asleep in Kerim’s arms, but is awakened by all the jostling and shouting and starts to cry. Rahmi gets ticked off and starts swinging at the press. They then pounce on Mukaddes and ask how much money she accepted from the Yasaran. She tells them that KERIM accepted money from them, but Fatma donated it. Once inside, the family lights into her for telling the media that they accepted money. As usual, she refuses to accept any blame. “We all received money!”
Fatma goes to her room in tears. Kerim follows and apologizes for one of his mistakes (accepting the money) once again causing her problems. Fatma says she isn’t upset about that. “My heart is tranquil because we didn’t use it. We donated it. We don’t have to explain anything.” She just tired of the media twisting all their words and actions.
The next day, the media hasn’t let up. Kerim goes to work and finds the workshop surrounded too (as is the restaurant that poor Mehmet has to deal with on his own). Kerim’s boss admits that Fahr was the one who convinced him to give Kerim back the job, but with all this media around, now he can’t honor that commitment. He has to let Kerim go.
Meryem and Kadir jump on Rahmi’s idea that Kerim and Fatma should go away for a few days until the heat from the press dies down. They call Mumtaz and then sneak Fatma and Kerim out of the city, and to Fahr’s country house. Mumtaz explains that Fahr actually bought the house for Kerim five years ago. He tells them the house has been cleaned, and the fridge is full. Then he leaves Fatma and Kerim, all alone under the same roof for the first time. Fatma looks nervous as they cross the threshold, and Kerim is the first to speak. “We’ve arrived. Looks like this will be our home. Ours alone.”
-End of episode.
ah, some new cast members, Eva's cellmates
Virginia Blanco (Paloma Marquez- "Reina de corazones", "Corazón Valiente")
Camila Batalla (Ana Osorio- Daytona in "Dueños del Paraíso", "Santa Diabla")
the older lady looks familiar but I couldn't place her.
and I see Martin also carries around a hankerchief, in case there is a lady that needs one.
Deb, thanks for the cast updates. I could not place that face. I thought she was a mala and she was Daytona in Dueños. In this one she's a scared, traumatized prisoner with dark hair instead of blonde.
Juanita, my sympathies for having to recap tonight!
Vivi, thank you again for a great recap! I loved the scene when Kerim cried watching the movie, and I love that Fatma held his hand in response. Engin Akyurek (Kerim) continues to impress me in how he conveys a multitude of emotions in one look. When he cried he conveyed all the hurt, loss, love and longing he has felt being the son of Farehttin Ilgaz. Those tears move me, man. I think Beren Saat (Fatma) is an amazing and professional actress, but Engin seems more natural; he can make you feel everything his character is thinking and feeling in one glance.
Hey, I just saw a comment from JdesdeNYC, and then it disappeared!
J- Agree with all you said about the Kerim actor (and Fatma actress), how natural he is and how easy it is to read every shift of his emotions. He didn't need to say a word during that movie scene to see the changes in his emotions, and then how they finally all just broke free and turned into sobs. Very moving scene.
Pablo's friend on the police force has apparently been willing to help him, since when the episode opens, we see Pablo now dressed in a police uniform, complete with badge. This enables him to pass unnoticed through the station and to find Eva in her cell. She's very happy to see him and to know that he believes her and wants to help her. They kiss through the bars. She tells him she has no idea what has happened, but she feels she has fallen into a trap. He agrees, and tells her he thinks it was set by Marlene. "You too think so?" she asks. He tells her that Marlene is capable of doing anything to maintain her power and her position. After a short while, Pablo's friend comes to get him and return him to custody.
Betty [hiss here] is reading Armando's declaration with much pleasure. Marisol tells her that she thought Betty's unborn child was her top priority, but now it seems that all Betty cares about is Eva.
Bertha urges Armando not to let Adriana leave home at such a time. Armando can only think of himself. He says Adriana can stay if she asks his forgiveness. Adriana overhears him and heatedly says that will never happen, and that Armando has ruined the family.
The scene shifts to Eva's jail cell. Another prisoner, who has seen the encounter with Pablo, says to Eva that "that man is much younger than you." "What's your problem?" Eva asks. The woman says she doesn't have a problem, but the young, handsome man probably does. "If you're convicted, you can say goodbye to this romance. A man like that isn't going to stay single for long." I'm wonder what the point is of this exchange. Is it simply to compound Eva's misery?
We next see Martin and Pablo talking to a police officer who seems to be in charge. The discussion drives me nuts. The police officer tells Pablo "What you've done isn't normal. There's no justification. I'm not going to authorize your release until the psychiatrist says it's OK." Huh????
Eva is transferred from the cell at the police station to what looks like a regular prison, where she's given prison clothes and, along with several other newcomers, is shown to a cell that looks as if it holds about eight people. One is the inevitable troublemaker without whom, apparently, no women's prison can exist. That night, when Eva tries to come to the aid of another prisoner who is calling out in distress, the troublemaker, Rebeca, attacks Eva and the two of them get into the Obligatory Cat Fight. I was surprised to see that Eva gave as good as she got in the fight, but the guards came, broke up the fight, and both Eva and Rebeca were sent to punishment cells (more or less like solitary confinement, I imagine) for two weeks.
Adriana is upset and worried about her mother. Andy, the King of Sensitivity, tries to distract her by suggesting that they think of all the fun things they can do when they get to New York. Adriana is having none of this. "My mother needs me," she says. Soon after this, she tries to see Eva at the prison but is told she's being punished for two weeks and can see no one. Come back in two weeks, Andriana is told.
Two weeks later, Eva and Rebeca are released from the punishment cell. Eva is told that her lawyer is here, and that her trial is the next day!
The day of the trial, Bertha pleads with Adriana not to leave with Andy. She gets nowhere. Soraya then arrives on her flying carpet and invites Adriana to come with her to the trial. Marlene appears and tells Soraya that Adriana does not need this unhappiness now. Adriana leaves with Andy. Soraya finds Bobby and tells him Adriana is about to leave with Andy. Cinthia overhears this and says to Soraya, "You and I have to talk."
At the trial, Eva's lawyer argues that there was very little time between the time that Evencio heard Eva cry out and when he found her cradling Sofia's bloody body. The dagger, however, was found off in the garden. It was not possible for Eva to have put the dagger there in the brief time before Evencio found her with Sofia's body. Thus, argues the lawyer, Eva was not the one who killed Sofia.
Betty the Perra then calls Armando to the stand. Apparently Marisol's pointing out to Betty in a previous episode the flaw in Betty's reasoning--why would Eva kill Sofia if she loved Pablo, not Armando?--had made Betty change her strategy. Armando now admitted that he had been unfaithful but said he loved Sofia, wanted to marry her, and had asked Eva for a divorce, but Eva refused.
Eva's motive was now clear: she was jealous of Sofia. [Viewerville screams in outrage.]
As if one miscarriage of justice isn't enough, we also see the police officer who seems to be the jefe tell Pablo "You're not a policeman, you are a civilian who killed another civilian. It doesn't matter that it was in self-defense. You could spend several years in prison." [Viewerville again screams in outrage. Large numbers of television screens are reportedly smashed.]
Martin calls Pablo to tell him that the prosecutor in Eva's trial is Betty.
Cinthia and Soraya have their talk. Cinthia asks Soraya whether she's in love with Bobby. Soraya laughs, and says she didn't want to let the love of Bobby's life leave. Appalled, Cinthia asks whether she's referring to the daughter of those truck drivers, that tacky peasant, the daughter of an assassin (la hija de los traileros, la naca esa, la hija de una asesina). Soraya says that Bobby has a different view. Cinthia informs her haughtily that "he's my son and I know what's best for him."
Eva is meeting with her lawyer. He apparently believes Armando's account and tells Eva that he can't help her if she doesn't tell him the truth. "I am telling you the truth," she insists. She suggests he speak with the lawyer Alberto Silva, who was working with her on the divorce. [Viewerville's screams remain in vain.] The lawyer shows Eva a document showing that Alberto Silva was drawing up a divorce petition as Armando's lawyer, not hers.
Betty and Marisol run into Martin in the hallway outside the courtroom. He tells her that Eva is a friend. Moreover, he does not believe she is guilty, and Pablo believes it even less. "What has Pablo got to do with this?" Betty asks. "You're not good at pretending," he tells her. "I've known lots of people, especially women like you, and I know when someone wants to play me for a fool" (tomar el pelo). He continues: "You're not here by chance. You're here because you intended to be" (porque te lo propusiste). He says that she's acting out of jealousy and spite, and that that's no way to win a man. "Indeed, what you've done is frighten him off"(lo que has hecho es espantarlo). [¡Bravo, Martin!]
Meanwhile, Marlene tells Armando she has good news, Adriana is on her way to the airport. Armando isn't jumping for joy. In fact, he seems upset that his testimony is destroying Eva.
Martin shows his badge and comes to see Eva. He asks her whether she knows the woman who is the prosecutor. Eva tells him she has no idea who she is, just that she seemed to take an immediate dislike (tirria) to Eva. Martin then leaves without explaining to Eva who Betty is. [I take back my earlier Bravo.]
At the airport, Adriana is unhappy and wants to see her mother, who needs her. Andy first offers her drugs ("here, just take this and go into the bathroom"), but she doesn't want that. He then pulls out the Big Surprise: he wants to marry her ASAP--in Las Vegas. [Huh? I thought the plane was heading for New York.]
Bobby arrives at the airport and tries to see Adriana, whose flight is now boarding. He's told that no one can go into that area without a ticket, whereupon he whips out his credit card, buys a ticket, and races to catch up to Adriana. He comes close, but not close enough. [Presumably he is not going to board the plane. Will he get a refund for the ticket?]
While all this is happening, Arnulfo is becoming weaker and weaker. Soraya and Pancho tell Arnulfo he has to confess, he has little time left, and they tell their assistant (aka chauffeur aka who knows what else) to start recording. Arnulfo does start a confession, saying that he saw an opportunity to make money so he took el chamaco and sold it, and he handed over Soraya (whom he refers to only as "her") to some people who trafficked in women. He then seems to run out of steam, and perhaps out of life. Soraya is very unhappy--I guess she wanted him to say something more specific, but it's not clear to me that he knows (or at least remembers) the names of the people to whom he sold the baby. Perhaps Soraya simply wanted him to identify her by name?
In the last scene of the episode, Pablo is reading about Eva in the newspaper. Betty comes to see him. "What are you doing here?" he asks, as the episode ends.
Sorry this took so long. I had hoped that I'd be able to have it up last night, but I found myself taking more notes than I'd expected. Though I started to write the recap last night, I was tired and decided to wait and finish it this morning. This morning, I took a look at the episode on the Telemundo website and was dismayed to find that it was quite different from what I had seen last night. The one on the website starts with the lawyer's arguments in court, not with Pablo in a police uniform going to see Eva in her cell. I then wasted time trying to figure out what why and how the two were different. I finally decided simply to stay with the notes I had taken last night. And those notes, as you can see, turned into a 3-part recap.
One more thing. I assume that Betty will tell Pablo that she's expecting his child. Can things get much worse? (In a telenovela, of course they can!)
J I want to thank you for your resounding recap of Monday' sepi. No need to apologize for anything. I was elated to see it and throughly enjoyed it. For me you are officially a recapper.
Vivi, thank you for yesterday's epi, fab as usual. I didn't get to see all of it but, you filled me in with your great detail. I love Fah, like Deniz said hard on the outside but a marshmallow inside for those he likes/love. His patience and drawback with Kerim is paying off. These emotionally scenes are killing me. Can!t wait for the writers to wipe thathe smirk off Resat/Murir's face. Mesta is a loser.
your recaps are wonderful Juanita and a pleasure to read!
and these choppy shows are tough to put back together.
once again novela justice is linked to railroading.
loved this part,
"[Viewerville again screams in outrage. Large numbers of television screens are reportedly smashed.]"
and not a good sign we are introduced to Eva's cellmates, like they are going to be around for a while. (but at least we are getting past this spoiler that Telemundo put in their synopsis)
wow, I thought Eva fired Alberto Abogado, but apparently she didn't follow up, and Soraya's best lawyer, I liked his opening statement which is what I was thinking, but is that his whole case, no evidence?
and smug Betty coming to see Pablo, what could happen here, the baby reveal, I can easily see Betty putting a jail cell in her home and letting Pablo do his time there.
and king of the castle Armando surely isn't feeling all mellow now that Marlene has solved all his problems, and poor poor Fabiola, abandoned by all.
hmm, maybe Betty is going to do some "plea bargaining" with Pablo,
maybe make a deal in exchange for going easy on Eva.
Many thanks, SpanProf, for your kind words about the recap and your contemptuous and accurate description of the episode.
Interesting idea about creating a Hispanic version of "Orange is the New Black." I confess that I've neither watched it nor read it, but of course I know about it. It's true that most of the other prisoners in the large cell with Eva seemed somewhat more sympatica than I'd have expected, and perhaps more interesting and varied (esp. the older woman who commented on the age difference between Pablo and Eva), but frankly I hope Telemundo doesn't spend that much time on prison life. They did enough of that, IMHO, in the women's prison episodes of La Reina del Sur. ¡Ya basta! There are enough other threads in the present novela to keep it interesting (if at times infuriating).
Deb, it may not be obvious, but the "dreadfully plausible idea" I was referring to was your "plea bargain" suggestion. I saw that but didn't back up further to see that it was preceded by a longer comment by you, complete with your wonderful insights (and your very kind remarks about the recap, for which I'm immensely grateful).
I too wondered why Eva's lawyer didn't offer more of a defense than just the location of the dagger. By the time he pulled the divorce petition prepared for Armando by Alberto Silva, I was wondering whether the two lawyers were in cahoots.
I laughed out loud at your suggestion that Betty might put a jail cell in her home and have Pablo do his time there!! I wish the writers were half as inspired and clever as you are!
Thanks, Brenda! I so wanted to be on the receiving end of one of those Fahrettin hugs. He's like a big teddy bear. There's still a long way to go with him and Kerim, but they made some major progress.
ITA. MEstafa is a loser. I can't believe Hacer went back. For what? She knows that despite what he says, Mustafa doesn't love her, and that he's a weak weasel. He's only given her more problems. And now she has to deal with his bitter mama mean mugging her in her own house. Hell no!
Juanita, you've outdone yourself. It was a terribly anxiety-provoking episode. The only bright moments were Marisol's candid observations, Berta's stern admonitions, Martiín's "discovery" of Betty, and Eva's ability to survive her first test in the jungle.
..."the inevitable troublemaker without whom, apparently, no women's prison can exist...." Yes, what a cliché. I was waiting for it when they marched her down the corridor in her khakis.
I, too was shocked by Eva's lawyer falling down on the job after such a brilliant opening in court. Did somebody get to him, or what?
So many frustrating moments last night. Bobby just missing the flight—but what would he have done anyway? Andy Asqueroso is really earning his keep. He's got a creative solution for every objection Adriana tries to toss at him. Marlene owes him bigtime.
And Soraya just missing her big reveal by a breath or two. Love that major domo of a chauffer. He's a real jack of all trades. They were careful to cut the tape when they got kind of rough with Arnulfo.
deb I wish wish wish it weren't so, but I'm speculatin' that you're correct about Betty "plea bargaining" with Pablo. It's pretty common telenovela stock, and endlessly frustrating to watch the galán hamstrung by the blackmailing witch as he pines for his true love who is made to think the worst of him.
Romy
SpanProf, I'm so glad you said this! I was thinking exactly the same thing. The writers settled for run-of-the-mill telenovela conventions and exaggerations rather than striving for something accurate, more believable, and ultimately more satisfying.
Romy- Indeed it is not a good time for Team Fatmagul. I'm kind of mad at Meltem. As much as it was a sign of poor judgment, when she hooked up with Mustafa she was separated from Slime/Selim (the RAPIST) and had filed for divorce. Why is she letting the Yasaran and the media slut shame her? Hit back. Badmouth those lousy ex in-laws and ex husband!
I guess the cops wanted Pablo to let Chivo kill him so they could wear black armbands and have a big cop car and motorcycle parade to the cemetery. Obviously they still think he’s in the force or why is Internal Affairs involved.
Gah, multiple acts of felonious writing! Was that a trial or meant to be a show-cause hearing? One witness! Even they didn’t even put on drunk Evencio, although they mentioned him. If it was a trial, two weeks? And she’s off to the Big House for a re-make of that 1972 classic, Women in Chains.
And Adriana is off to somewhere. What sloppy writing. They said the plane was going to NYC. That’s the gate Bobby went to after buying that probably more than $1K ticket (same day prices). So how’s Andy Asquerosa going to get her to the Chapel of Hearts for a ceremony performed by an Elvis impersonator.
Loved Soraya and her magic carpet. I wonder if Arnulfo is dead. I hope so. I gotta admit that the actor, who looked so dignified and well dressed as Erick’s father in Bajo, is doing a good job of being on his deathbed.
Well, since Telenovela Justice is so murky, I’m not sure if Eva was declared guilty in a trial or simply that the show-cause proved she needed to be tried and that’s supposed to happen later. If she was declared guilty, I can’t see how Betty can come up with a plea bargain.
Romy
hmm, I think that the internal affairs thingy with Pablo was a gesture by the chief so that he would be treated better, as if he was still a cop being investigated, rather than getting the regular criminal treatment like Eva, he has his own cell, better food, etc.
Agreed, SpanProf. In fact one would think there would be a criminal investigation into the attempt on Pablo's life.
At first I was in disbelief when Asu went back to MEstafa....then I realized...she probably has such low self esteem stemming from her previous line of work....and/or whatever put her into the business....and he is the father of her baby. So yeah, she's wanting to believe in him and hopes he grows to love her...but she knows for sure that right now, he's still in love with Fatma. Unfortunately for Asu, she will not be able to overcome Fatma's ghost or MEstafa's weakness. She's just as lost as MEstafa is now. And I know Sami is her only friend so she really doesn't have anywhere to turn it seems. And I still don't get her friendship with Sami. He roughed her up himself when he was her handler and let others rough her up so I don't get why she still turns to him for help all....seems she needs to run from every single man she's dealt with thus far.
Meltam...I have no words for her. She is turning out to be weaker than I thought she was. She started off strong, hunting for the truth and now she's just another weak person who's afraid of a righteous fight.
OK...I have to say it...I hate Muka. Was hoping for an epi where I didn't have to go there but she did it again. She never tells the truth about her dirt and takes every opportunity to throw anyone else under the bus. She could have just kept her mouth shut...she didn't have to deny or validate anything the reporters were saying. But there is also that part of her that likes attention so she had to say something...just not the truth...it's not in her.
Finally, some real alone time for F&K at the country house. I mean the family had to follow them to the airport and I get he invited all to the movies but in order their relationship to grow...F&K need some time on their on, no prying eyes or pressure.....just time to get to know each other like when they played the game. They can't really let their hair down and totally let go with everyone in the house with them so here's to some real bonding time with no pressure or expectations.
Nett
Nett- I'm looking forward to watching my recording and seeing how Kerim and Fatma spend their days alone. It's always appropriate to declare you hate Mukaddes. She does something hateful every day, both big and small.
Brenda- I just saw the great comment you left on the last Telemundo post this morning. Gracias, amiga. Yes, I agree that Rahmi does understand most of the time how horrible the things Mukaddes does are, but he tries hard to keep the peace (and loves her, thinks he needs her, and doesn't think he can find someone else), and for that reason he glosses over a lot that she does.
The Yasaran continue their campaign to malign Fatmagul. After the press conference accusing Fatma of basically being a money grubbing whore, they call Mustafa up and tell him he needs to speak to their paid reporter and basically confirm their version of events—that Fatma stepped out on him with Kerim and there was no rape. He’s hesitant, but he’s also a coward who looks out for number one first, so he complies with the order, then hates himself afterwards. The story gets published, and in it he also throws Mukaddes under the bus and speaks about how she accepted money from the Yasaran.
Meltem, yet another coward, has reenrolled in college and happily continued on with her life, until two things interrupt it. First, her mother Ender tells her she found and confronted Yasmina, the ho who set up Turaner. Ender is sure the Yasaran were behind the whole thing and she wants them to pay. Problem is, Yasmina won’t talk. She calls Mustafa, since Meltem trusts him so much (oy!) and asks for his help. The other thing that throws Meltem’s life off balance is a call she receives from Yadigar, the Yasaran housekeeper, who heard Erdogan’s drunken admission to the rape the other night. She calls Meltem to ask just how much time in jail the Yasaran boys would get for the rape. Meltem knows she knows and (has the nerve to) tell Yadigar she MUST testify on behalf of Fatmagul. Meltem calls Kadir, who calls Yadigar and arranges to meet her at her house. Unfortunately, the Yasaran had picked up on her spooked behavior and had her watched by Yasar. When Kadir comes to see Yadigar, she’s been scared into submission by Resat, who’s hiding in the next room holding her grandbaby by way of a not so veiled threat. Kadir leaves empty-handed.
Mustafa’s mom is being civil to Hacer, who’s having wicked morning sickness. Mustafa takes off for Ankara to track down Yasmina via the ho network. Seriously, he asked Hacer (who was offended), who asked Sami, who knew a guy in Ankara, who worked with Yasmina. Next thing you know, he’s at her door trying to make a deal with her to take down the Yasaran. She seems open to it, as the Yasaran have been ignoring her pleas for assistance for weeks. Mustafa returns to Istanbul and the Yasaran offices with a smug look on his face. He plugs in a USB and Munir and Resat listen to a recording of Yasmina and Erdogan plotting.
Mukaddes gets more upset about Mustafa calling her out for taking Yasaran money in the media, instead of all the crap being said about Fatma. To retaliate, she secretly calls the reporter who worked with Fatma, and basically smears Mustafa’s wife Hacer/Asu, calling her out for being a prostitute. The story is plastered in all the papers the next day, upsetting poor Hacer. Meryem realizes Mukaddes is the one behind it, and she doesn’t hold back calling her out for doing something so stupid. She points out that what Mustafa said about Mukaddes is TRUE, and that SHE is the one who started this whole mess they’re all in by plotting with the Yasaran in the first place! (Finally!) Of course, since Murat is there, Kadir and Rahmi call for calm. Meryem further points out that if Hacer finds out Mukaddes was behind the story, she might just pull her support for Kerim in the Vural murder case. She’s his only witness! Mukaddes, of course, does not admit her wrong.
Away from all this madness, Kerim and Fatma are enjoying their time in the country house. They cook together, play word games, sit by the fire, and play at imagining that they live there fulltime—Fatma would cook/bake from there, they’ve have a garden, grind their own flour, and they would build a small workshop for Kerim. Fatma calls him an artist. Kerim gets sad, remembering that he now has no job.
During the day, Fatma and Kerim go for a walk in the woods. They speak about traveling to Australia, and Fatma speaks of what would have happened had he left her the year before as planned. She thinks she would have just sunk into more bitterness and despair. She recites the letter he wrote, word for word, admitting how many times she read it before she ripped it up. Fatma also admits that at the time she was mad at herself because she didn’t want to miss him (but she did) and she didn’t want to give in to him. She felt as if she were betraying herself. She tells Kerim that the letter was the first time she really heard his voice. He’s clearly touched by this honest admission, and offers his hand. They walk hand-in-hand the rest of the afternoon.
That evening, they hear a noise at the door. When they open it, a golden dog comes right in. They are both delighted, but wonder where she came from. They decide she must be lost and that they’ll take her into the nearby town the next day to look for her owner. They decide to name her SudOeste, since the south-west wind must have brought her to their door, and spend the evening playing with her.
Once bed time comes around, things get awkward again. Kerim goes outside to chop wood, so that Fatma will be more comfortable getting ready for bed. She’s deep in sleep when SudOeste comes scratching at her door, wanting to snuggle in bed. She sees that the light is still on in the living room, and finds Kerim still up, reading poetry and drinking beer. He reads her some lines of the poem, which is both a love poem to the city of Istanbul and a woman. As the poem becomes more ardent, Fatma becomes more aware of her nakedness under her nightgown, the beer Kerim is drinking, and the fact that they are alone. She abruptly goes back to her room, and this time LOCKS the door. Kerim hears the lock.
The next morning, SudOeste wakes up a happy Fatmagul. She carefully unlocks the door, but Kerim hears it. He’s already up and dressed, and ate breakfast and has laid hers out for her. He tries hard not to look at her in her nightgown or look her in the eye. He goes outside while she gets ready and eats. Fatma realizes what’s wrong, and tells him she didn’t lock the door because of him. She feels safe with him. He doesn’t seem to believe it.
They go into town and ask all around about the dog. No one recognizes her. As they walk, Fatma makes sure her hand is millimeters away from Kerim’s, but he does not take her hand. She notices and is clearly disappointed. SudOeste suddenly gets excited and runs towards a car. It’s a dad and two little kids, who have been looking for their dog, Barbie. They thank Fatma and Kerim and drop them home. Fatma tells Kerim that SudOeste is a WAY better name than Barbie. They she makes an offhand comment that she’ll miss the dog, and now it’s just the two of them (sounding disappointed). Kerim is hurt.
Night falls, Kerim falls asleep on the couch and when he wakes he finds Fatma in the backyard in front of a bonfire, looking at the stars, and reading the book of poetry he was reading the night before. She invites him to join her. She begins to recite the poem, and he joins her from memory. They look into each other’s eyes and smile as they recite together. She reads a line from the poem about hearing her lover’s heart beating. Kerim takes her hand and puts it over his heart, then, without taking his eyes from hers, he slowly leans in for the kiss—a soft, gentle kiss that Fatma doesn't reject.
-End of episode.
part 1
Betty meets with Pablo in his IA penthouse for bad boys, you don't think I chose to take Eva's case do you, yes I do Pablo says,
Betty pleads that she is after justice, Pablo warns her about her career, Pablo is all I don't love you, I love Eva, (if Betty were Gabriel Porras her head would be tilting), she finally leaves.
Arnulfo has died and Soraya cries, they didn't get their recorded confession, but we also see, it hurts her that he had no remorse, Pancho puts in when he's buried it will all be over, a wise Soraya says you know it won't, but we will learn to live with the scars.
Bobby is upset over Adriana, Cinthia blows it off, and Bobby blows her off, she is sure that Pancho and Soraya are turning him against them, she wants Robert to not do business with them, can't he says, Robert goes to see Bobby because they have a contract or something to sign with the weiner king, Bobby blows him off as well.
(didn't Soraya call Bobby something else the other day, Beta ??, because she doesn't like the name Bobby)
I don't know how many people have told her it was Marlene or how many times she agreed, but once again Eva is figuring it all out all over again, this time with her cellmates and the mention of Marlene Palacio stuns the older lady Federica, who later quietly tells Eva her nephew was married to Marlene, and is now in jail, and gives us some of the same info Pablo discovered, (of course we don't know why Federico is in jail, everyone there can't be innocent) but wait, she adds a new slant, Marlene isn't after you, just getting you out of the way, she is after a man, and later adds some more advice, don't confront Marlene head on, but take it slow, piece by piece to unravel her evil, (oh but we know this just isn't Eva's style).
Marlene watches the news and smiles, (and I wonder if Maria Celeste isn't jeopardizing her credibility).
[Federica is Mónica Sánchez Navarro, who played José Luis Reséndez's mother with breast cancer, in Dama y Obrero].
speaking of weiner kings, Armando is tucking in Fabiola who is making like she is asleep, when he gets a call, it's Marlene, she wants some company, and we are seeing that Fabi is no dummy, and as he makes his rendezvous in the back house, Marlene holds him off until he is sufficiently teased and frustrated, and they go at it, but Armando catches a glimpse of Fabi watching through the window, she takes off, him in pursuit, past the two housekeepers and Tia who know something's up, actually they know exactly what's up, and Marlene warns Armando, Fabiola can't talk or it will affect the trial.
Armando's attempt to get Fabi out from under the bed rewards him with a good kick, and Tia convinces them they have to let her cool down, and everyone leaves, Fabi comes out to find comfort in a photo of her and her mother, Marlene hears her stirring and waits, when Fabiola comes out she grabs the picture and chomp, gets some good imprints from Fabi's dental work, broke the skin on the back of her hand, which seems to keep festering as the show goes on, (could it be Marlene is an alien), you go Fabi!
not sure where A&A flew to but they are now in Las Vegas (maybe the Dragon from Reina de Corazones will nab them) Adriana is stressed as is Marlene's plan, and Andy is keeping her from going home also part of the plan, by plying her with sex, booze and drugs, Adriana remarks, I've always dreamed of being married in LV, (really, people dream of being married there, I thought it was just something that happened on a trip usually late at night)
as Eva lays in her bunk, she finally gets it,
again,
Marlene!
part 2
next day Pablo meets with Eva's lawyer, who says he can't help him, but Pablo is interested in Eva's case and these two just don't get along (and I'm yelling at Pablo to tell him about Betty, no such luck) Pablo gets him to admit he thinks Eva is guilty, Pablo tries to get him to drop the case, or when Pablo he gets out he'll... (is it really a good idea to keep threatening a bunch of legal people when you are in jail) and the lawyer leaves with a, you don't have to believe their innocent to win the case.
meanwhile back at the jail Eva takes out another bad girl with a fine roundhouse punch, tells her fans it's something her father taught her to do, if she was going to be surrounded by truckers.
Tia goes to Soraya and spills about the happenings at the now Montes mansion.
Martin and JJ come to Pablo's IA suite, bringing books and other stuff, Pablo wants to work on his thesis so he can graduate, and I'm starting to notice how Martin is always rubbing his hands and otherwise acting like a softer version of Diego.
Eva and the girls are fixing police cars in the prison motor pool, what?, when Eva gets a visitor, it's Soraya (if you are in jail or laid up in a hospital there is no end to the people bringing you bad news) and spills on Eva's hija's, this is too sad. (interesting how Marlene's plan always includes keeping Eva wound up)
Marlene calls up Betty to see if she can help.
a week goes by
Betty wonders if she should start wearing some shapewear to keep her from showing, no one can know about the baby till after the trial.
Pablo invites Marisol (what was she in Bajo?) over to his IA suite, they are old buddies from the police force, he wants her to get Betty off Eva's case, Marisol is all it's on the up-and-up, I know, you know, you are lying Pablo says, and once again he threatens a legal person, that he will blow the lid off when he gets out, no, no, it looks like Eva is guilty, I know she's not says Pablo.
(and why hasn't someone told Soraya about her prize lawyer?)
Cinthia is relaxing at the club while Soraya is getting a massage, ahh, she recognizes Soraya's star tattoo, of course, why didn't I realize this before.
Eva sits down with her lawyer, apparently they only talk while in court, he mentions Pablo her boyfriend, another thing you didn't tell me about, who tried to tell me how to do my job insinuating a Marlene Palacio was responsible, as Marlene walks into the room, bringing winter with her, who is that he asks, (did he feel a chill), is he starting to get it.?
Betty calls Marlene to the stand, who talks of her friendship with Eva, how hurt she was when Armando cheated,
and how she swore to kill her niece,
as Eva jumps up and goes for her throat,
order in the court, order in the court...
There is a bit I forgot to add above:
Perihan is disgusted by the media smear campaign against Fatma initiated by Resat and Munir, and she's not totally convinced they didn't order something against Leman and Semsi (even if the accident was really an accident). She announces to the whole Yasaran family that she is going to testify on Fatma's behalf, then dares them to try to silence her. Maybe not the smartest thing to do, since she's still recovering from her injuries and can't even walk or stand.
Thx for another great reap Vivi.
MEstafa is lower than dirt. How could he possibly live with himself after his continue betrayal to himself and let alone Fatma. He is so weak. I can't wait for his downfall. Both he and Asu have no self respect at all. The Y's have him by the .... and they are squeezing tight.
F&K playing house was so cute. This is what they've needed for a long time...just one on one time to get to know each other to see if they even truly like each other....without the prying eyes and the plotting Muka. I know they had to build to this point so they continue to progress.
Muka is so mean, hateful and selfish. I think back to when Sali hit her...and wish he had knocked some sense into her (or return and hit her some more). She's another one with low self esteem and she takes it out on others. She doesn't deserve Rhami, Murat or anyone. Ebe has told her a 100 times to keep her mouth shut...but she refuses. She knows the harm she's doing and doesn't care. She actually takes delight in hurting others with her tongue...whether she's defending herself or not.

deb, your talent at recapping amazes me. So fast & funny. Too many good lines, I'll only quote back one: "(if Betty were Gabriel Porras her head would be tilting)"
and "wiener king". OK, I'll stop.
Cinthia & Soraya—for a couple of catfighting gals, why do they have their spa appointments together! I must have missed a few epis at the beginning. What's the significance of the tattoo?
These writers are playing fast & loose with logistics. I thought they showed Adri & Andy in the Big Apple (a couple of streetscenes). Next think you know they're in Vegas. He must have a lot of Frequent Flyer miles to burn. (By the by, I once apartment-sat in the East Village for a couple who flew off to the Elvis Chapel for their wedding. It was a high-kitsch event.)
As gratifying as it is for Eva to have found corroboration and solidarity on the inside, I think the writers are moving a bit too fast with the Federica angle. I mean, in prison, would you trust the first person to come along with that kind of story? Is she trustworthy, or is she a plant? Either way, it seems a bit forced, plotwise (to me).
Well, we're most definitely in the "tear your hair out" stage of this story. One morass compounds another. Eva just fell into the trap; she should have seen coming. Pablo's not doing himself any favors with his own emotional outbursts. Better he study those law books and come up with a better defense than the cringe-worthy lawyer that Soraya sicced on Eva. Who is this guy? Does he have a plan? What kind of cryptic remark is that? He really believes Eva is guilty?
Great recap, deb! You've managed to turn swine into pearls. I especially loved your applying "weiner king" to Armando.
I gotta say, I'm becoming more and more disappointed in this novela. It's not the fact that all is going wrong for the Good Guys--that's to be expected. It happens in just about all novelas, and is always frustrating. But what's especially frustrating and disappointing in this one is its total implausibility. The only thing the writers seem to have done well is concoct Marlene's multi-faceted plan. But as clever as it is, it depends too much on our having no idea of how the US justice system works, etc. etc. And, as you pointed out, Eva keeps coming to the same realization about Marlene. It's almost as if Eva has Alzheimer's disease and has a defective short-term memory. I think I'm going to make a point of noting who the writers are (and perhaps the producer as well) and avoiding anything they do in the future.
OK, rant over. Maybe.
So Cinthia recognizes the star on Soraya's naked body. How in the world would she have seen this before? Did they parade a bunch of naked women in front of her years ago and ask her to choose the one whose child Cinthia would buy? No, I'm not serious, but....
Speaking of Soraya, why would she and Pancho recommend such a loser to Eva as a lawyer? I had slight hope for him when he offered the defense about there not being enough time for Eva to have put the dagger where it was found, but that seemed to have exhausted his brain. Nothing more was forthcoming except the belief that Eva is in fact guilty (in spite of the argument he's just made).
As soon as Marlene described Eva as being a wonderful person in spite of her violent tendencies, I knew Eva would jump up and try to attack her. Marlene knows how to play her perfectly.
I think I'm glad there's no episode tonight. Since we're not supposed to discuss politics, I won't make any comparisons between what we're likely to see tonight and the novela.
Watched a lil bit of today's epi live. Erdo the Ego is acting scarier and scarier. He's about to do something stupid again...and it will involve Fatma. Can't believe he still thinks he can get her to drop the charges at this point...he' out of his mind.
And MEstafa.....he thought he had an out...but didn't realize he was getting played again....his attempt to blackmail the Ys backfired today....he aint getting out of this. Asu... I bet she wishes she had ran when she got the chance...it's too late now...he won't let her go. Can't feel sorry for either of them....they got paid for the lies they spewed about Fatma...hopefully now they see it wasn't worth it. They are stuck in this hell together.
Muka...how long has it been since she was allowed back in the family on Rhami's grace? How can she bite the hand that allows her to sleep free and in peace. Kadir has been nothing but nice to all of them and now she's messing in his business....Kadir...please put her out!
Can't watch the last half...it's time to dig out from the winter storms here. Looking forward to the recap.

thanks guys!
it's hard to take this one seriously because they are just throwing stuff at us, like the star tattoo, it's even odd that Marlene waited 10 years to act, but she sure has Eva digging her own grave, and I hope Armando is enjoying the sex that she permits him to have, because he is throwing away everything he has for it.
and Marlene really crosses the line in what she is doing to Eva's girls.
I wonder if we will ever find out why Marlene's husband is in jail and not her, does she have something over him that forced him to take the rap, or was this a whole other novela.
oh and and I went to a local website on jury duty, where they had some video clips and such, and on one a judge was saying that although the opening and closing arguments may be helpful to the jurors, they are not evidence.
Quien
on the other hand, ¿Quién es quién? is turning out to be a jewel, I have really been enjoying watching the worlds of these two guys slowly collide.
(there are full english recaps of all the shows so far if anyone wants to catch up)
Romy
Romy- Would love to see the poem in English. I didn't have time to look it up yesterday because I had to get to bed early.
Yeah, Kerim should just realize that he should NEVER drink when he's going to be around Fatma. But he did think he was alone for the rest of the night, and can't a dude kick back and relax with a beer and some poetry? :) I see both sides.
Nett- Looking forward to seeing today's epi when I get home. Not surprised that Erdogan continues to lose it. Notice how he was denying knowing why Yadigar had become suspicious of them when Resat and Selim asked. He knows his crazy tantrum caused it. I only see him getting more unhinged.
Istanbul
I listen to Istanbul, my eyes closed:
First, a light wind blowing
A soft wind swaying
The leaves in the trees,
And far off in the distance
The tinkling cups of the water-seller;
I listen to Istanbul, my eyes closed.
I listen to Istanbul, my eyes closed:
Now the birds are passing
In high clamoring flocks,
Nets are pulled in at the fisheries,
A woman's feet graze the water;
I listen to Istanbul, my eyes closed.
I listen to Istanbul, my eyes closed:
The cool covered bazaar,
Mahmutpasha, the courtyards
Filled with warbling pigeons,
Hammer sounds from the docks,
Smells of sweat in my lovely Spring wind;
I listen to Istanbul, my eyes closed.
I listen to Istanbul, my eyes closed:
An old world drunk in its head,
A waterfront palace with a dark boat shed,
The humming of the lodos ceases inside;
I listen to Istanbul, my eyes closed.
I listen to Istanbul, my eyes closed:
A pretty young girl walks by
Chased by taunts, come-ons and curses,
Something falls from my hand—
Surely a rose;
I listen to Istanbul, my eyes closed.
I listen to Istanbul, my eyes closed:
A bird is fluttering in your skirts,
Your brow is hot, I know,
Your lips are wet, I know, I know,
A white moon rises behind the pistachio trees—
I understand the pounding of your heart;
I listen to Istanbul, my eyes closed.

@deb No-o-o-o! That's terrible. For you and for us! It's happened to me so many times, that I've trained myself to write them off to the side in Notepad or Word and then copy them into that dratted box. I lost a whole recap once and wanted to just give up right there. You have my deepest sympathy.
