El Hotel de los Secretos #49, 4/5/16: To Err Is Human; To Be Heir is Andres

Sofia can’t deal with the Big Void in her life; Mama talks her down after admitting she hated Sofia as a child but then learned or realized how much she loved her.  Why else had she stayed with her night and day since she went totally bonkers…..(Great minds of Viewerville actually do want to know.) Alfredo gave up on her; she doesn’t deserve him now.  If she pulls the trigger, says Mama then Mama will kill herself also.

It was because Sofia had her father’s looks and bearing – Teresa saw his lyin’ eyes and mouth and Teresa’s own humiliations.  Sofia  was also a very demanding child.  She drained everything out of Teresa.  Once she was finally able to see Sofia for herself, it was too late; Sofia wasn’t “in there”.  Teresa tells her they’ll find the truth together,  they’ll find it themselves together.  A big mother daughter hug ensues.

Speaking of finding oneself in a deep dark place…..Isabel and Julio manage to find a hidden suite in the hotel that was her father’s.  While rummaging around they find a letter that Romulo never sent to Andres.

The reception for the social big wig is a failure since the man doesn’t show.  Well, looks like he won’t as he’s been detained at the Pearly Gates of late; Filipe is currently receiving assistance from the mysterious Hateful Four Gang, run as we later see, by a female in male drag --Flippy is becoming a drag if you ask me.   In return for his stealing some book (a diary?), they’ll shut down the lights to rob the place and assist with the missing man’s corpse (I think?).  Flippy grabs the diary/booklet.  When Mama comes upstairs to find the guest of honor in his hotel room, she finds Flippy reading supposedly.  Mama doesn’t push it I guess, since better he read than wallow in whiskey…..

Downstairs, Andres falls to the floor upset once he learns the truth from Angela that’s he’s really a bastard, and the one-armed man in the hospital tried to be his daddy but couldn’t cuz Mama and he just couldn’t get the marriage to work.  Natalia hears the commotion and races in.  He whines and sniffles that he’s alone (like a true loser) and she kisses him to show him he really isn’t alone in life.  She’s there if he wants her.

Teresa, finally, admits her errors with Sofia to Dr. Vacario who tries taking her hand in his to show affection and solidarity.  She refuses the intimacy and he apologizes.  It’s just, she cannot accept him somehow, she can’t deal just now and blah, blah, blah……….He’ll help her with Sofia—away from prying eyes—as she requests.  It’s his professional duty.  Later she admits to Angela that Sofia is sick –not of body but of mind…….

Diego is reminded by Teresa’s inquiry about her daughter’s absence, that his wife is definitely late for this very important date.  He sends his gofer to find her.  Meanwhile, Cecille entertains him out in the bushes somewhere.

The letter to Andres tells him how Rom loved him since he could crawl.  He was too ashamed to ever admit it but he loved him because Andres is his flesh and blood—his flesh and blood.   (Duhn-duhn-duhn-duhnnnnnn!)   So, to repay him for his shameful behavior, and since he and Isa are his most humane and kind children, he’s leaving the Grand Hotel to Andres as his inheritance. (So I guess Isabel gets bupkes, huh.)

Cecille gets a  charge out of telling Julio that Diego is well attended to , but he also knows that his wife is not a virgin and knows it must be him that done her in…..They argue over her jealousy towards Isa as a side issue……

Isabel promises Julio she’s not telling Andres until she can prove/verify all of what’s in the letter. (Gawd knows how….) She’s got to go cuz Diego’s boy is looking for her.  Oops, it’s Diego himself who finds them in Don Romulo’s old digs together (after the secret passageway has been closed).  “—What is this man doing in this room with you?”  (Ruh-Roh!)

Jardinera...I am not watching this show (too late) , but I had to tell you how much I loved this title...and Andres. Maybe I should start recording the show if Andres is going to be on screen a lot ! Hope that you and yours are well. ;)

Hey, Susanlynn! Miss your posts along with Judy, who gets to post only once in a while. It is a late show for us on the East Coast. Uggh. Thanks for droppin' by!

Jardinera, thank you. Saved me because I missed the first half.

What other evidence does Isabel need? She has the letter in her fathers own handwriting. I think the quicker Andres knows about the target on his back the quicker he can take steps to legitimatize his claim and protect himself. I thought however that the hotel goes to both Andres and Isabel but if that is so then Diego gets his grubby hands on half legally.

If my spouse was MIA when the lights went out and I found them in an office alone they would have some real explaining to do.

Good work, Jardinera.

Tofie, that was a time when first-born males inherited everything unless they were mentally deficient or total incompetents. Isabel was a medical student with every intention of becoming independent...at least until she could marry a suitable man of her own choosing. That's what I think Romulo wanted for her.

I'm not sure how Andres will take this news. He will be even more angry with his mother even after he realizes that Isabel and Julio just found out.

Like Susanlynn, absolutely loved the title, Jardinera. Show still continues to be fun with secret rooms, secret compartments in desks and a whole cartload of family secrets. Love how Teresa and her consuegra are now cooperating like the best of pals....a shared financial interest can do that.

And speaking of...Susanlynn...you absolutely should record this show. It's the best one on Univision at the moment. IMO.

Thanks Jardinera. You definitely win the title for the Title!
And I always love your sassy, world-weary take on things.

Thanks, Jardinera! Yes, that was a great title. I cannot imagine how Andres will take the news because he's always in such a bad mood lately as it is, what with the leg and all.

What I really wonder, though, is who will get the bigger share of his wrath: his mother, or the Alarcons for hiding this from him? (Or maybe he won't realize right away that Teresa even knows the truth.)

Speaking of: I know Sofia knows, but I can't remember if Felipe does. I think he was there when Teresa told Sofia and Alfredo, but I'm not sure. I only mention it because if he DOESN'T know, his reaction when he finds out will be very interesting. (Or maybe he'll just fall over drunk.)

Oh, Susanlynn - definitely tape the show. It's not the best assortment of eye candy ever shown on Univision, but the cast and performances are very solid and we can tell that the people involved in this production really cared about what they were doing.

The plot is strong and it just keeps moving forward. The production is well-thought-out and well-put-together (except for the sound engineering/mixing/editing, which is just terrible as usual for TNs).

It is refreshing to watch a TN that doesn't feel like a series of cliches. Oh, it has plenty of TN cliches in it, but somehow the cliches' effects are more decorative than functional. If that makes any sense...

Thanks Jardinera.

I hope that this time Isa and Julio will give Angela a chance to tell Andres before they do.

What was with the deal with the "we're about to reveal something big" music when Jorge was undressing?! It's not as if we didn't all know she was Jorgette. They made it quite clear.

What I want to know is about this little cowboy gang headed up by this young woman pretending to be a man. What is that all about? I have not been able to figure out what this all has to do with anything except that they are harassing Filipe about something that I have no idea or haven’t been able to understand.

I can’t wait to hear what Isabel’s excuse is. I hope it is good. I still can’t figure out why she married Diego when she doesn’t love him. He is nothing but a thorn in her side.

OMG- that title is perfection! Thanks Jardinera.

"So I guess Isabel gets bupkes, huh". This so tickled me. So, if Rom's letter to Andres gives him the hotel, we can assume that Teresa stating it goes to Isa (and latched her on to Diego so fast) is a hoax. Which makes me wonder, the letter everyone was scrambling for, that Cristina used for blackmail, who was that addressed to? Teresa? The fact there were other letters is intriguing and delicious. I sort of get her reaction, I think I heard her say something about her "poor mother" at one point because she doesn't know all we know...and pretty much refuses to see the forest for the trees anyway. but she better not hide this from Andres for long.

And one of those two, Julio comes to mind since there's not much room in that dress for hiding, better hide those and quick. Die Diego Die knows the secret room? Or did the passage open by itself revealing the door? I could have done without the fun-filled moment under the stars with he and Cece.

Poor Sophia. Glad she didn't pull the trigger, but the last thing she needs is her mother. But I guess she has no one else with Freddy gone and THAT mother in law.

As well as Lippy upchucking in the tub. I see those type moments and I always think--poor staff having to clean that now. But he was funny with the quick sit on the couch.

Hello Nat!! You go girl--that got Andres to stop sniveling. That poor baby though, almost hurt to see Andres bonding with it. If Money-grubber comes back, she'll take off again or blackmail/entice her way to marry Andres again. Cause...no. And along with that, if all these lies and injuries and heartache do not get Andres standing tall and "taking prisoners" of those who are messing with him, I don't know what will. For some reason, I want a feisty Andres, who goes nose to nose with Diego, and tells Teresa to shut it, etc.

Very lame party. The fashion show had a bigger turn out. Sorry Isa, very noticeable you weren't there.

Find it rather fascinating, that if you think about it, Julio is very much a side character right now, more going with those who are now in the thick of the remaining secrets. His problem is really Cece, and she just needs to go. Away. Far Away.

Best scene of the night: "Jorge" pulling Felipe out of the bathroom by the scruff of the neck (really his collar) after he threw up in the bath tub.

I am ready to hear the story of "Jorge".

Cynthia, I'm with you and cannot find any good reason Isabel married Diego except for a hospital she never works in. But then, I didn't understand the dear Diego letter she left him when she and Julio were gonna live a hobo life.

Once Andres finds out I hope he pitches everyone in the street for lying and withholding a very important little tidbit. Start with Julio who shouldn't be there anymore anyway.

I'm trying to figure out if Jorge's posse know they are being led by a woman.

I keep thinking, they can't possibly not know... but then... maybe it is supposed to be a big surprise. Maybe we were supposed to be really shocked last night to see her take the mustache off. LOL.

Isabel married Diego because her mother told her to. Supposedly it would save the family because it would make Diego happy and keep them from losing the hotel, which was (allegedly) on the edge of financial ruin. That's basically it.

We've never seen any evidence that either the hotel or the Alarcon family was in financial trouble. I mean Teresa has all kinds of money to buy babies, pay for Isabel's med school and white dresses, and finance Felipe's many hobbies. But apparently Isabel accepted the explanation. She weakly protested the arrangement more than once, but never really put up much of a fight.

I think she actually would have backed out of the commitment if not for the fact that he opened the hospital when she was already feeling angry with Julio and feeling hopeless. Even then, I thought it was really lame of her and very disappointing went she went through with the wedding. Perhaps if her anger and/or hopelessness had been communicated more vividly/energetically, that sense of resignation would have been easier to accept.

In defense of Isabel and the hospital: according to the dialog, she goes there every single day, much to the annoyance of Teresa and Diego. We just haven't seen her there much lately because there haven't been many scenes there. (She was there when Andres went to see his father.) Lately most of Isabel's scenes take place before breakfast or in the evening.

Julie, I think the posse know has to know Jorge is a woman because this is far from a fantasy on all other levels. Maybe the posse owes her a great debt because of good deeds she has done for them or their families somehow. Now I am weaving a fantasy! LOL

What in the world does or did Isabel have to feel hopeless about? She was her fathers favorite, smart, pretty, got to go to university with plans to become a doctor when most of the population never learned to read.

If Isabel married Diego to protect their social and financial standing she did it to maintain a lifestyle. No one twisted her arm.

Now if Isabel married Diego to spite Julio, I'd buy that.

I was thinking how mad Diego would be when he realized that a waiter got to Isabel first.

Well, now he's banging Cecelia - and Julio got to her first, too.

I just realized: Diego's getting Julio's leftovers - not just once, but twice!

I do hope Diego finds that out before his horrible death.

Julie: "I just realized: Diego's getting Julio's leftovers - not just once, but twice!

I do hope Diego finds that out before his horrible death. "

Amen to that!!

leftovers, hehehehe but true

I wonder if Isabel will be angry if she finds out about CeCe and Diego? Will she be jealous? She's already bothered a bit wondering about Julio and CeCe. Both guys she slept with slept with CeCe too. Guess this show does resemble a TN

Tofie - I meant hopeless about being with her one true love. Like, things didn't work out with Julio, she's never going to have anything as good as that again, so she might as well settle for Diego. (Not only to maintain her own lifestyle, but to support her useless family too.)

I did say it was lame and disappointing. We know she's not lazy, because at one point she was ready to take off with Julio. So, all of a sudden she just gives up? Whaaaat? Come on. The only real indication we got of her hopelessness was in her pre-wedding talk with Matilde, when Matilde was trying to talk her out of it. That was a pretty hopeless-sounding conversation.

But maybe spite alone is enough to explain it. I'd also find that pretty lame and disappointing of Isabel, because she should know better than to marry out of spite.

But then, hospital. Maybe that's her Achilles heel - her sense of obligation. Now that I think of it, she's more committed to the hospital than she is to Diego. She thinks she owes him. Maybe it seems like a small price to pay if she can have a hospital of her very own!

Isa and Julio seem to be on fairly good terms at the moment - but I think Isabel will be VERY jealous, AND she will call Julio a liar AGAIN for not telling her ALL about Cecilia way back when he told her the story of his life and said "now you know me better than anyone else does."

She'll prolly be even madder when she finds out that Julio DID tell Ayala about Cecilia.

A belated thanks, Jardinera, for a very enjoyable recap!

OMG, Isabel was gone sooooo long, my nerves were on edge.

Does Teresa know for sure that Angela & Romulo had a thing? She knows nothing about the love nest, I don't think. There is some secret between Tere & Ange however. They seem to have a respect for each other. Angela is protected somehow, from the wrath of a wife that was cheated on. Tere is not a forgiving person. She probably saved Sofia 'cause she didn't want scandal.

Notice that this novela is only 80 episodes, cutting out about 100 cliches which would lead to 160 episodes.

Great acting by all but, Diana Bracho & Daniela Romo are killing it.

This novela is on my top 10 list, at least so far, Pls don't disappoint me!

I think Teresa knows for sure. I don't think she would have been worried about the letter if she hadn't known exactly what was in it and exactly how it meant that she would lose the hotel.

And if she didn't find out about Romulo and Angela some other way, she could probably have figured it out the same way Lupe did - by the way Romulo played with Angela's child.

Angela is protected by Teresa's wrath by the fact that Angela has the power (somehow) to put the hotel in the hands of her own son. As to why Angela doesn't do that, I cannot guess. I know she once lectured Belen about how miserable all of the Alarcons are, but does she really think that the hotel is what makes them miserable? It is Teresa who makes them miserable. She even makes herself miserable.

I doubt Teresa knows about the love nest. Oh, she might know that one exists. She might even know where it is. It does have two windows, after all, which can be seen from outside the hotel and can't be accounted for by any of the guest rooms. But she doesn't know how to get in. If she did, she would have done something with it by now. Even if she never found the documents that were hidden away, I bet she would have cleaned it up and converted it into a super VIP guest room or something. (Well, I would.) Or filled it with bear traps. Or Hello Kitty memorabilia. Something. I can't believe she would have just let it sit unmolested as a symbol of her humiliation.

I was thinking the same thing about the windows from the outside. Where is that room?
Why can't I get there from inside? ok, novela
