Pasión y Poder Martes 4/5/16 #118

Chapter 118: Higher Stakes

People gamble with all sorts of currency and all kinds of luck, good and bad. Those who are lucky at cards are said to be unlucky in love. Some people gamble on both and lose badly. Some don't realize that there are higher stakes than money like hearts, reputations, egos, lives. Typically, they also don't examine the odds... or that the house always wins in the end. – D.D.

Julia found Humberto's note telling her he had gone to Las Vegas for a few days. She panicked at this because of the state of his health, his extremely limited English, and his gambling addiction. She told Gabriela to stay home and keep the Foundation running. She was going to Vegas to bring her father home the following morning.

Consuelo was visiting her son and she put him to sleep in front of Petra.
Petra, please look after my son. You are the only person I trust him with.”
Who could ever want to harm this darling child?”
I have to go. I don't want to run into Erick.”
It's awful that you and Señor Arturo can't be here to be with little Erick. What will the boss do?”
Nina slipped into the room unheard.
He won't be coming for a few days.”
Oh, I guess he will have to deal with the cheeky one, won't he?”
No, it's not that. He's on a trip to Las Vegas.”
You'd think he'd say something before he left,” said Nina. “He should be saying something about the business.” She looked sad. “We always used to go there to gamble. I miss that.”
She pouted.

Justino stopped by the reception desk at GLA to talk to Caridad about the wedding plans. She began thinking she shouldn't go because David was going to be the padrino de bodas. She didn't want any problems with him to spoil the occasion. David happened to hear this and told her that she shouldn't think this way. Clara and Justino loved her, she was like a grandmother to little Luisita, and they had to right to have any and everyone there whom they loved. He had made a truce with Franco so he had no problem. Caridad thanked him and we went on his way. She then told Justino she wished that her own son were more like David.

Arturo was discussing business with other conference attendees in the bar while Humberto was at the roulette wheel losing half the chips he had started with. He finally hit a number and made back four tall stacks of chips.

Gabriela visited Franco in his office.
My love, we have to postpone dinner with Grandfather.”
Is he ill or did he fall?”
No; on the contrary. He's fine. He ran off to Las Vegas.”
What?” Franco asked. Not that he had to because only he knew that Humberto had the money to do this. “He grabbed his chips, sick as he is, and he's well enough to go gambling?” He laughed.
It's not funny. My aunt is very anxious for him. She took the first flight she could get to look for my grandfather.”
I'm sorry, but my father wouldn't have the will to fight this because we're not going to Las Vegas.”
Why not?”
There's a conference there but with everything that's happened he just canceled it and we're not going.”
What a pity. My uncle and aunt could have reconciled on this trip.”
Franco took her hands and dropped his smile.
The truth is I'm sorry, but I really think this is never going to happen.”

Arturo had just made a ticket reservation for a show and walked away from the desk when Humberto found him. He tried hitting him up for a loan to buy a watch for Julia. Arturo smiled knowingly.
Oh, I brought my money, as you said,” said the old con artist. “But I wanted to use it for other things.”
Sure, of course,” said Arturo. “Why don't you use it for something else?”
I promise I would behave myself. I was just looking at a brochure for a helicopter tour. I like this idea. Besides, with the fortune I won –”
Arturo handed it back.
The fact is I don't have time for this –”
You never know. Why don't we meet in half an hour at your favorite steak house, have a few drinks –”
Alright, I'll agree to that. Let's go. I'll be back after I cancel this.”
He walked out of the lounge and Humberto checked his cell phone. There was a message from Julia and Gabriela that they had called ten times. He laughed to himself and said “Ah, so many calls! My plan is working! Bravo!” He verbally applauded himself, happy as though he had stolen the Rheinmaidens' gold.

Franco was escorting Gabriela out when Daniela arrived in one of her typically inappropriate strapless dresses. Gabriela looked like she couldn't leave fast enough, but Daniela stopped her.
Wait, Gaby, now that I'm involved with your cousin I'd like us to see each other a little more.” Franco rolled his eyes, then continued to watch her. He didn't see Gabriela's expression, but she was very suspicious. “Really, he adores you and he'd like for us to get along better. Your grandfather, too. You're the only ones that I've missed.”
Gabriela hesitated for a second.
Well, if it's really that important to David, we could try to be friends.”
Good! Now that we've agreed, let's go shopping!”
Okay.”
Franco grinned through this whole little scene. He and Gabriela kissed and she left. Daniela stayed right where she was.
We'll have fun shopping!” she called after her. She looked at Franco. “Do you remember what you wanted to ask me because I came to see David.”
Is your father in Las Vegas for the convention as he's done for years?”
Yes. He said so last night very lovingly because now he knows I'm not taking drugs.”
Really?” Franco asked. His tone was that of amusement, as though she had just told a joke. “Truly? Really?”
Yes. My test was negative. But I don't get it. Why did you ask about my father?”
It's that Julia is on her way there on the pretext of looking for Grandfather.”
So that my father and Julia are traveling together like a couple?”
They can make up pretexts but I have no doubt they're going there to be together.”
Daniela was not pleased at this news. She had never grown up to realize that it was not her place to approve of her parents' love lives, especially after a divorce.
Really, what a lack of courage. You know, I thought things were going well with Julia but...no. The only thing she wanted to see me about was that she wanted David to break up with me. She's a hypocrite.”
The truth, Dani, between us? She always was a hypocrite. I won't know what to say to poor David about this trip.” The pot always likes to call the kettle black.
Me neither. But it would be better to say nothing because it will hurt him a lot to know that his mother is with my father. Yes, I think it's better not to say anything about this to David.”
Hi,” said David. He had to have heard the last two sentences. Franco had his back turned to the rest of the office but it was unclear whether Daniela saw David approach. “Excuse me, but what don't you want to tell me, Daniela?”
What you don't want to say,” Franco said to her sotto voce. He stood behind her.
Excuse me, Dani, what did I hear? What are you hiding?”
My love, don't get mad. I didn't want to tell you because you'd be hurt.”
Alright, so what is it?,” he said. “Something I don't know about?”
Look, brother, I'm not going to say anything. I don't want any more problems with Julia. I prefer to remain quiet and I won't say anything.”
The truth is we were talking about your mother and her trip to Las Vegas,” said Daniela.
If my mother went to Las Vegas it's about my grandfather. He always causes problems and that provokes my mother.” Daniela exchanged looks with Franco, but David could not see that. “Daniela, I'm here. What happened?”
The truth is that my father is also there. They're together.”
Franco smirked behind her, hiding from David. Daniela did not realize he was playing her for a fool as well.
Are you sure? Are you sure of what you're saying?”
Doesn't it sound too coincidental that your mother goes to the place where my father is at a conference?”
So then where did my grandfather go? I don't understand.”
The truth is, well, I'm very sorry, David, but – Excuse me, this isn't my business; it's yours.” And Franco left like the coward he was.
My love, I know this hurts you a lot. Me, too. My parents were so happy together and now my father is boinking your mother –”
Daniela, I'm with you. My mother has to accept you or I'll distance myself from her.”

Erick took the foolish risk of meeting Pedro in the park. Probably the same park where the kidnapping had taken place.
Look, I haven't much time,” he said. “What do you want?”
I like your way of doing business. I want a half million pesos [$29K US] to keep my mouth shut. I don't think you'd want it known that you kidnapped your own son.”
Look, I repeat we had a deal. You can't do this.”
I know from the news you're having a big fight with your ex about the baby. If you want me to shut up, it will cost you.”
You know what? You have no proof.”
I have your phone number on my cell phone from all the calls and some of the jewelry you were supposedly paying to do the rescue. If, as you say –”
Alright,” Erick said, realizing he was backed into a corner. “But this is the only demand you can make. Is that clear?”
In that case, pay double.”
Don't press your luck. I'll get you this money but I can't pay any more. I'm fighting with my father and I don't have any more money. Is that clear?”
Don't cry. I know perfectly well you own shares in your daddy's company.”
Well, I could also say that you beat up Franco,” said Erick. Pedro laughed.
Yeah, you could. What else? That you were the one who ordered me to? You think you're so smart, but not with me.”
Alright, you'll have your money, but not right away.”
I won't wait very long. I think your ex or your brother would pay good money for this information.”
I told you I'd give it to you. I'll need a few days and I'll look for you. Alright?”
Don't worry; I'm not going anywhere. And if you don't call me I will call you.”
Pedro walked away with a sly closed smile. Erick realized he had been outmaneuvered.

Petra was serving lunch in the dining room to Regina and Jorge.
Petra, you must be very happy to have an assistant.”
Ay, it's like having a pebble in a shoe,” she answered.
Obdulio entered just as she started grumbling.
Good afternoon,” he said, with a grin. He was dressed in white, like a celebrity chef on television.
Petra looked glum as Regina and Jorge greeted her new assistant and old flame. She got out of the way as he brought in the tureen and ladle with a cream of squash blossom soup that smelled divine to Regina. Both she and Jorge praised the soup. Petra pouted and left the room. Obdulio followed her. Both Regina and Jorge decided that Petra had to be in love.

Humberto switched to video poker for a while. Arturo met him at the machine just as he hit a jackpot. A certain charm was lost when these machines were changed over to the way they are now. There is no longer the gambler's thrill of watching, hearing, and feeling the coins spill out. Of course, my accountant estimates that losing that noise works in the casino's favor because none of the patrons would realize how infrequently a jackpot like this pays out. Now there is less noise because the machines either stop and say “Insert Credit Card” or light up winnings, which are paid out by hitting the Print button. Humberto did just that and put the receipt in the basket on the front of his Rascal before steering it away from the machine.

While everyone else was looking to have fun at others' expense, Franco sat in Eladio's office and watched him review documents.
I see the Maya Riviera project will be late,” he said. “I don't believe it. I had hoped we had all the permits.”
We can always have David work on remodeling the buildings in the meantime.”
That's a good idea if the project has a client.” He looked up as he was putting the papers in the folder, then stopped. “What is it? I know that face. Is there something else? What happened?”
You know about the conference in Las Vegas that we're not going to?”
Obviously. What? What? What?!!”
One of my contacts is there and he called to tell me he saw Julia with Arturo Montenegro.”
This hit Eladio like the proverbial ton of bricks. But Franco knew it would.

A funny thing happened on the way to the steakhouse and Eladio might have laughed if this particular timing wouldn't make his blood pressure reading go off the charts. Julia was walking through the casino on the way to the elevator when she found Humberto.
Father!”
:Julia, what are you doing here?” he said, not forgetting that he had set up this particular chess game.
What am I doing? Arturo, how is it that – with all the problems my father has – you're here with him?”
Humberto pretended shock. Arturo was too busy looking at her to hear what she said.
No, it's not all Arturo's fault,” Humberto said. “I wanted to be here.”
Yes, but... Julia, your father found me here,” Arturo said.
Maybe, maybe,” she said. Then she looked at her father. “Father, you have health problems and you have gambling problems. We're going home.”
We don't have to go back. How can you think we're leaving?”
She took out her cell.
Be calm,” said Arturo. He was probably thinking Be calm and have champagne.
If you want, we can go home tomorrow. We can't let Arturo dine alone.”
I'll leave you alone for a moment. Humberto, we don't want your daughter to feel uncomfortable. It's better like this.”
Daughter, let's go to dinner with Arturo and clarify the situation. We can take a flight home tomorrow, but today? No. I'll tell you something: I'm not taking No for an answer. We're staying.”
Arturo shrugged. Julia looked at both of them. She was ill at ease.

I think it would be better to bring some other businesses in to complete this commission,” said Franco, but Eladio wasn't really listening.
No. No, no. It's that... Excuse me, but I can't believe it. I can't believe Julia is there near the convention where all the attendees know me.”
Franco held back a smirk. “I can't believe how my godmother has changed. She's not only with Arturo, she's with Grandfather.”
Shut up!” Eladio was as tightly wound as a new mainspring being played with. The steam was almost coming out of his ears. “If you say anything you better be sure it's true.” He took a breath. “What I have to do is very easy. I'll just call the hotel to check.” He picked up his cell, called Caesars Palace, and asked to speak to Julia. A few seconds later he ended the call. “She doesn't answer.” He sat down a moment. “This can't be, this can't be. She's in a hotel with the convention.... but Julia isn't like that!” Someone who didn't know either of them might have believed Franco said she was turning tricks.
It's not fair what you're thinking of my godmother. What a coincidence, isn't it? Of all those hotels in Las Vegas they're staying in the same place? I'm really, sorry.”
What are you up to? What do you think you're telling me? Get out of here and leave me alone.” He waved his hand as if to dismiss him.
If you need me for anything –”
Yes, I need something. Get out of here!” Eladio shouted.
Alright.”
Franco turned and smiled to himself as he walked out of the office just slowly enough to hear Eladio slam his hand on the bookcase and the desk.
Eladio had poured himself a brandy and almost drained the snifter. As he looked at his framed photo of Julia he imagined her dressed in a long white toga-like dress. She was drinking champagne in a palatial suite at Caesars', then walking through two large rooms to the corridor where she met Arturo and led him into the bedroom. He removed his tie and jacket before catching up with her and making out. He cut off his thoughts by smashing the glass on the desk and knocking over his computer monitor.

There were only two chairs at the table near the huge picture window. Outside the restaurant the white columns surrounded the statue of Augustus Caesar at the middle of the Temple Pool. The structure was beautifully lit under its iridescent light blue dome. The Forum façades were dark except for the metopes above the main doors. It was a beautiful sight that the emperors themselves would have loved. Arturo waited for Julia, who took the place next to him rather than opposite as he held the chair for her.
Thank you. Where is my father?”
I thought he was coming with you.”
No, but he said he'd be coming to dinner.”
Arturo began pouring the rich red wine.
Do you feel calmer now?”
More or less. The truth is I don't like the idea of finding my father here. He came here alone. I don't what you were doing here talking to him.”
Like I said, I came to a convention at the hotel and found him here. I was going to call you but he didn't want you to be upset.”
This is very strange. I know you and he were in contact.”
Contact? Julia, it was a coincidence. That was bad to come out here without saying anything to you. If he told you he was coming to Vegas would you have allowed him?”
No. It would have been unwise. Understand that.”
Maybe you're being a little hard on him. Try to understand your father. Let him be happy. You don't know how I wish I had my father with me. I wish he were still alive.”
You're right.” She smiled. Arturo was pleased to see that.
Humberto was at that moment trying to beat the one-armed bandit. He seemed to be winning a few modest amounts.

At Arturo's former palace, Lulis came back with Daniela, David having dropped them off.
Why did you insist I stay and sleep over?”
I had a difficult day and after we ate I just felt on the edge. Until I feel like I have to have something.”
No. You can't.”
I know that! What I'm saying is to help me so I don't try to get high. It it weren't for David I'd be running to score something.”
Is that because they're pushing you in therapy?”
I found out that my father went to Vegas. Not for the convention. He went with Julia.”
What are you saying, Daniela?” Nina had heard her as she was approaching the stairs. “Your father is there with her?”
She reached the bottom of the stairs and Daniela tried not to look into her eyes. She really didn't want to have this conversation.
I've tried to be brave, Mama, but we all knew something like this could happen any minute.”
Lulis was getting increasingly uncomfortable.
I'll go ask Petra to make some tea,” she said, then left Daniela alone with Nina.
Mama, I don't like to see you like this.”
I was hoping that when he went to Las Vegas he'd remember our trips together,” said Nina. She started to cry. “I was hoping he would miss me.”
Really, there might still be hope.”
Yes, yes, but I'm so angry with him we're at war day and night.”
Daniela seemed to do her own about-face.
Mama,” she said, somewhat irritated. “Enough of this idea.”
Yes. You're right. I'm crying here about him and he's happy in his life with Julia. But that is over.” She wiped her eyes carefully, as though she were patting on makeup. “Not another tear more.” They embraced. Daniela didn't see the uncertain look on Nina's face.

Do you think I like imaging them together, making love?” Eladio asked his psychiatrist. He walked around the office, gesturing as he spoke. “Let me ask you something. Do you think a person can go mad from sadness?”
Yes. It's possible Eladio, but continue.”
This isn't good because since we've been married Julia never traveled alone. And now... she's gone with him.”
Do you think Julia is getting revenge because she saw you with Nina?”
Well, it's possible that what she saw the last time... she misinterpreted it, and this was revenge. But deep down I know she's with Arturo because she loves him.”
Ay, do you think it's possible that's what you feel?”
What kind of a question is that?” Eladio shouted. “How do you think I feel? How can I want to be happy? No. Truly.” He seemed to calm down. “Listen well. This war will continue. It will go on until one does away with the other.”
Eladio, where do you plan to take this fight?”
Why is that important? I don't know. The only thing I want is to destroy everything Arturo has done. And something tells me that everyone in the way will die.” He paused, as if to do a military about-face. “Only I'll be losing what I most love. Of course. Julia.”
Eladio, if there is no possibility of you and Julia reconciling, don't you think it's time to turn the other cheek?”

Turn the other cheek? That's what this is,” said Eladio, pointing to the wall decoration. It looked like a net being tossed by waves, but symmetrically. “That's what this represents. That's what it looks like in my mind, distorted. Therefore, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know how I'm able to see it because it's my problem and I didn't know.”
I think that before beginning any other important relationship, Eladio, that you understand your degree of guilt. Because your relationship with Julia is ended.”
No! It's not true. How can it end after all this time? It's all Arturo's fault.”
Eladio, we're realists. Do you really think this is all Arturo's fault? How relationships function isn't that simple. There is guilt in thirds. What happens to ourselves, what happens between a couple –”
I must be mistaken. I know I'm wrong.”
Think very well about everything you said. Good or bad, things end like this. If after all you don't get back together with her and you can't take it you can say so here.”
Eladio laughed, but sarcastically. More like Canio in Pagliacci.
You think so? Really? You don't understand the pain she causes me!”
As I said, Eladio, hurt as much as you want, get the doubts out and when they start falling and you can think of other things, trust me, everything can change.”
When I open my mind?”
Yes.”
That? Pain isn't important? Pain continues and continues.”

Julia and Arturo walked around the outer columns of the pool.
I'm sorry my father didn't show up.”
Thanks for coming with me.”
No, on the contrary. Thanks to you.”
Julia, do you want to return early to Mexico? Why don't you stay a few more days?”
No.”
Why not?”
Because, no.”
Until now you were tense, with difficult problems; you need to relax a little.”
Yes. Caesars Palace is one of the most beautiful and exciting places in the world. You could almost forget all your problems in one day.”
He talked about spending the day together in the sunshine. Julia didn't answer, or we didn't hear her through the sound of the fountain.

Nina went to Eladio's hotel suite.
Good evening, Eladio. I have to talk to you.”
Please come in. What happened?”
Eladio, tell me if it's true. That Julia is with Arturo in Las Vegas.”
He hesitated, but finally said, “Yes. Yes, it's true.”
She cried – after having promised Daniela there would be no more tears – and went on about what could she have done wrong. He looked as though he were feeling the same thing but didn't really want to share it with her.
I'm sorry, Eladio; I didn't mean to make you feel bad. It's just that I don't know what to do. I feel humiliated. I had hoped we would get back together.”
Nina, I don't think this is the moment, but it might be best to face our realities.”
I can't believe I wasn't enough woman for him. I'm not. I gave him a family. Three children. I dedicated my life to loving him, taking care of him, protecting our family. What more could he want?”
Eladio looked like he was falling for her act.
I feel sick, I feel [ ].”
I understand. Really, I understand. And I can imagine what it is to be in your place.” She continued to cry in front of him. “Don't be like this,” he said. She moved in closer and he embraced her so she could cry on his shoulder. Eladio looked as though he was watching his own pain. Eladio released Nina and they locked eyes for a moment. They kissed, but after a few seconds that would have gotten an old film censored they parted.
I'm sorry, Nina. I can't”
It was an impulse. I was looking for a refuge, an escape. Maybe a revenge kiss.”
Where there is love there is no revenge.”
I know you still love Julia.”
And after, the manner in which to cause suffering. I know you love Arturo very much.”
I know. You know what? We're together. We're suffering for love.”
You're right. Our love isn't returned by the ones we love.”

Daniela looked around her room in every container on her shelves. She became increasingly more nervous as Lulis walked in on her.
Calm down,” Lulis told her.
Leave me alone!” Daniela yelled at her.
Think about something else.”
I can't, I can't! You don't get it.” She grabbed her cell phone.
What are you doing, Dani?”
I've got to call [ ]. I need something. Just a little.”
Lulis reached for the phone but Daniela pushed her aside and got up.
This is the last time. I promise. The last time.”
Dani, you can't.”
Yes!” Daniela shouted. “I don't need permission because it's my life and I know perfectly well what I'm doing.”
Lulis grabbed her phone and Daniela went after her. A moment later Lulis realized that she couldn't handle Daniela alone. She ran out to the stairs and yelled down.
Help me. Dani is very bad. Please!”
Regina and Jorge ran up the stairs just as Daniela came running out yelling to them all to leave her alone. Jorge grabbed her and restrained her as she screamed and struggled to get away. She may have been going through a withdrawal. Jorge managed to keep his own cool. Regina was horrified.

Arturo and Julia went back inside the hotel and escorted her to her suite. She was worried about Humberto because of his health. He suggested they talk the next day and they said their good-nights without kissing. He didn't try to rush this. As she closed her door he took out his cell and left a message for Humberto telling him that Julia wanted to leave in the morning. Since he didn't want that to happen, he asked him to call. He had restrained himself, but was disappointed. Later Arturo walked through the rooms in Eladio's imagined seduction scene and then into the billiards bar where he drank a glass of champagne that waited on the lonely bar.

I feel very ashamed. I feel alone, sad.”
You don't have to tell me anything,” Eladio said. “I can imagine what you feel and it makes be feel bad, but don't worry. After the flames there are ashes you can forget.”
They shook hands.
Eladio, I have to go. It's not correct for me to be out of the house.”
You're absolutely right, of course. And I only want to tell you that you were at the point of succeeding but we know that's not the way to resolve our respective problems. I wish all of this could just turn back.”
I just hope it's over soon. Thanks.” She kissed him on the cheek before leaving.

A few minutes later Eladio looked at a framed photo of Julia, saying that although he loved her they needed to take their leave of each other, finally saying he never wanted to see her again before he threw it on the floor. The glass shattered. He rescued the photo and apologised. “But I hurt and can't forget you. You know. I can't forget you. Because it would be death to forget you. Yes. Dead first.” His expression would have done Daniel Craig proud.

Revised on 4/5/16 following episode 118.

Wow; I'm not a gambler at all but I'd go to Vegas just to stay at this place. The Luxor looks cool, too.

WOW Urban. Great. Thanks for filling in some of the convo with Dani, Dave, Gab and Frankenfurter. I missed it.

OK. All you veterinarians who diagnosed Dani and pointed out how wrong
the addict speculation was? Speak up. Poor Dani. It's a choice girl.

It is maddening how easily a few mislead the many. Humdog is a crafty little turd.

Julia, Julia. It seems her only friend is the Mutt face retard. Lotta help you are Gab.
If she could just have O N E smart friend. She has nobody. And like Gaby she actually
hasn't gotten that whole thinking thing going on yet. Reacts to stimuli like an ameoba.
Great hair though.

Somehow I do not think Erik is a match for Pedro. Pedro is nastier, smarter, and has less to lose.
This could be good but Pedro is 0 for 2. He couldn't kill you with a hand grenade.
I'll bet he will be able to make chimpo sweat at least. Dealing with Pedro will hopefull distract Chimp Boy
in his efforts against Mikey and Connie.

Thanks Urban. This was wonderful. Always appreciate all the detail you add to each and every one of your recaps.

It seems like Hummy is on a winning streak at the casino. Will that last? Will he end up betting it all and losing even his shirt? Can't wait to see how his adventures in Las Vegas ends.

Not much Petra and Obdulio tonight. I know they are filler but I like their scenes together.

Wow, while Arturo is in Las Vegas chasing after Julia and Nina is moping over Arturo, Daniela is having withdrawals and needs the drugs. Poor Lulis having to babysit. And The Ninja Turtle looked funny trying to restrain Daniela.

I'm enjoying watching Pedro getting money out of both Franco and Erick. Let's see how long that lasts. I bet Pedro will end up getting whacked at some point by either one of them. No spoiler just speculation.

Thank you UA!

Kirby: Eladio's words saying death will stop his obsession with Julia sounds prophetic!

Mauricio: Old Goat Humberto gambling the $$$ away in Vegas!

UA: Didn't know that Purple Lips used to gamble in Vegas!

Steve: Did you see her Purple Lips after she tried to devour Eladio's face? The purple was almost gone.

Yeah I got that. That he will kill everything dear to Arturo, including Julia.
You gotta be moonwalking and turning backflips Steve. :-) Your day in the sun (graveyard) is almost here. Let the carnage begin.

It looked like Art had Humdog on a money leash not allowing him to spend it all.
Soooo. Can anyone here still maintain that Dani is a 'casual, recreational user'?

Yeah Mauricio. He had his flippers full. Hoochie gone haywire. Lulis is like 'Fork, what did I sign up for? HELP'. Wonder how long it will take for Dave to "miraculously" hear about this? FBI CIA and Homeland Security could take some communication pointers from TN grapevines.

I think the writers are doing their latest usual thing, which is teasing the hell out of us during the ultimas semanas about how this tale will turn out. There are 137 hours total, which leaves us with 19 to go. Since we have two new series I doubt we're going to get 2-hour episodes until the finale (although Univision hasn't been prone to 2-hour finales in the last few years). Not to mention that cutting during the final weeks would be a crime worthy of the ninth circle of hell in Dante's Inferno.

Keep in mind that the credits sequences do not always reflect how the story will end.

We haven't seen Assmore for a few episodes so we must factor in anvils for him. Daniela's withdrawal last night demands that. It doesn't necessarily foreshadow death for her, particularly since Erick will either end up dead or in prison for everything he's done. To kill Daniela seems too cruel. Not that she doesn't deserve punishment for her sins, but it would be too cruel to her parents to kill her. Jorge seemed to acquit himself well during this crisis. It takes a cool head to deal with an addict in this situation. I think Lulis should apply for combat pay for this.

Yes, this is the first time we've heard about Nina and Arturo going to Vegas in the past. I wonder where they stayed. Not concerned about Nina gambling; she seems too practical for that to be a fixation for her. Maybe she indulged her James Bond fantasies; I hope some casino requires black tie.

Urban, a beautifully written summary. You captured the essence of this very pivotal episode perfectly. You take such care with all of the details.

"He verbally applauded himself, happy as though he had stolen the Rheinmaidens' gold" was my favorite of many.

I expected to see a slight flicker or dim spark to indicate Julia had some interest in Arturo. I saw none. Beyond her obvious discomfort at the situation and Arturo's uncomfortable stilted presence, there seemed to be no emotion other than polite interest. Now, I do not believe there is any possibility they will end up together.

If Nina was insincere in what happened with Eladio, she completely fooled me. I thought that for once, she was being open, honest and vulnerable. She loves Arturo although I think what they had is gone from his mind and heart completely.

Pedro may be Erick's undoing. Selfish, self centered and spoiled alone do not make a con artist. Intelligence is also a factor, which Erick lacks. He may have messed with the wrong grafter.

Finally, a lighthearted scene with Petra and Obdulio! Regina and Jorge's appreciative laughter was most welcome. Jorge earned my respect during Dani's meltdown. I wish Lulis would be the friend she needs by coming clean with Nina and Arturo as to what is actually transpiring. I hope Dani gets the help she needs.

Wasn't Franco delighted that Eladio's hopes of reuniting with Julia were crushed?

Many anvils swaying in the breeze, poised and ready to plummet.

Thanks again UA!

Diana

UA, you weave wonderful, researched details into your recap. Your description of Caesar's Palace made me want to hop on a plane and go! Thanks for your time and attention to your work. You're speedy too!!!

Kirbo, yes, I think Dani's problem is worse than I had hoped. It is my interpretation of the drug testing event that they were two tests done at the same time, one blood( ?) the other hair follicles. Dani paid off the testers on the second. (I could be wrong about this.) I haven't seen her take drugs since the beach, but her addictive meltdown indicates that she isn't able to process disappointment without a crutch. This makes me sad.

The Eladio/ Nina scene was beautiful. We seldom see finely crafted emotions in a novela. The best was when Nina said that she needed to go, she should be at home......where she's always been.

Ahh Sandy, thank you for noting "The best was when Nina said that she needed to go, she should be at home......where she's always been".

Despite all that she has done (and failed to do), it would be difficult not to be moved...

And yes, it was a beautifully acted scene.

Diana

The writers will probably jerk our chains about Julia and Arturo several more ways from Sunday in the remaining episodes.

I don't know what to think of Julia still loving her father after all his abuse and his gambling addiction. If he hadn't bankrupted himself she would have been able to divorce Eladio ages ago and moved on with her life. In recent days (episodes) Humberto has spoken of death, so we all need to wonder whether he will be the first to go. Will he win a big jackpot and die of a heart attack? That doesn't buy back the lost years of Julia's life, but would be interesting irony. If he were to die now his two remaining secrets would not necessarily die with him. Arturo might confess the Vegas thing out of conscience while Franco would likely rat Humberto out as a blackmailer to Gabriela during a fight once she finds out about where the factory went.

Here's hoping that this drug episode with Daniela forces Lulis to rat her out to Arturo. He might flip out that nobody called him right away but he'll get over that.

I think this series could have taught a better lesson about how clever addicts can be at concealing their addiction. Daniela would be the perfect character to have done that with, since she doesn't have to do anything illegal to have the money to acquire drugs. That she is a party animal is an element of her psychology but isn't the driver of her addiction; it's only a gateway.

Eladio backed off from making Arturo's old mistake when he backed off Nina. But he's likely to make another, more permanent one later.

Urban, I did briefly wonder if Eladio would end up with Nina.

How ironic would that be?

Would she really accept being with not one, but two men who preferred another (the same) woman over her?

Diana

BTW seeing Franco gives me indigestion.
Nina/Eladio was touching. We see a man who is far from perfect and far from guiltless who really truly has some emotion. Is it love (for Julia)? Maybe. Loss of a favorite posession? Maybe too. Does it hurt? Hell yes. Does he know what to do? No. Does he know what his instincts tell him? Yup, and he knows they are wrong.

Wow. We will see if he has the emotional strength to sort it out successfully. I have my fingers crossed. If anybody deserves forgiveness, my vote is for Mr. Eladio. Most of the others, not so much.

Eladio seems to be alone in self awareness. He understands his sins of the past. He understands some things simply can not be 'undone' but can be atoned for. He is truly remorseful. He is tormented, mostly by himself. Probably one of the most painful things is to admit that it is nobody's fault but your own. Good Luck Eladio.

Preferred is too weak a word.

Who loved with a burning passion the same woman more than they did her.

Diana

As usual you've done a wonderful job UA. Thanks

I also expected Julia to succumb, instead we have a delusional Art cause she gave him nothing.

Diana, I don't think so. I don't think Nina would make that mistake twice.

What is so destructive in her thinking is the whole "I wasn't enough of a woman" thing. She measures her worth in her beauty and sexual talent to the exclusion of all else. She was a wicked stepmother to Miguel, a toxic suegra to Consuelo, a selfish mother with her own children, and somehow in 25 years never managed to acquire any real class.

Or real friends. Fanny pretends to be one, but she is actually a frenemy.

Tofie, I wasn't expecting that this time. Julia needs to get Humberto back home and away from temptation in Vegas. At any other time a sight like the Temple Pool by night could do it, but gambling is just as dangerous an addiction as drugs. She has to worry about whether he would steal from her to gamble.

She is going to be livid when she finds out where the money came from. And this could destroy Gabriela.

In the Las Vegas scenes our PyP actors dressed beautifully. Then true to form, the rest of the hotel guests (US!) were in shorts and bad t-shirts.

Seeing Franco mug behind Dani made me rethink my Die Erick Die decision! What a pathetic human being Franco is!

thanks, UA, for that detailed recap.

I am not a gambler (I like to keep what I work for.) I have never been to Las Vegas, but if I went there , I would like to stay at the Bellagio because it has a big collection of decorative glass by Dale Chihuly. I am a big fan of his.

I am very frustrated with these characters...so many wasted lives. Life is too short to pine and fret for someone or something you do not have...too short not to forgive others and yourself for wrongs and disappointments. Enough. Try to find some happiness before it is too late.

If all the blame lands on Franco's shoulders for funding the Vegas getaway, when Art had his checkbook ready, then Art dodges another bullet. Should Julia hook up with Art it was facilitated by hook and by crook.

Tofie.."by hook and by crook"..yes, that. I think we need one of your snarky lists to wrap up these dolts.

Thank you very much, Urban. It's always fascinating to hear the story told by someone else whose point of view differs from one's own. How diverse this team has been in its perspective (not to mention the many tables on The Patio).

BTW, Dani said she was calling her dealer. I don't recall her exact words, but she used the verb "surtir," to supply, which I noticed because it came up when I was recapping. (I don't interpret her craving as physical, but rather as psychological. She is in the habit of dealing with difficult emotions by numbing them, as she told her shrink.)

I like the symbolism of these characters wandering around in the tawdriest, most soulless place on earth. And the old man is like a spoiled little boy on Christmas morning. So funny to see Eladio's fantasy of Julia shlepping a humongous bedsheet through the luxury suite and Arturo mugging like someone in a low-rent porno flick.

"Arturo mugging like someone in a low-rent porno flick" oh gawd he was

Of course, that's how Eladio needs to see Arturo.

Actually, I blame Humberto about the money. He blackmailed Franco and demanded cash. As soon as he did that I knew what he would do with that money if he had the chance. Franco could have refused, but that would have messed up his scheme. And if Humberto gambled it all away -- which can happen in a single night -- tough noogies on him.

UA,

Thanks. I always appreciate and enjoy your luxurious richly detailed recaps. You are clearly extremely dedicated.

NovelaMaven,

"It's always fascinating to hear the story told by someone else whose point of view differs from one's own."

I share this thought.

I think that everyone here has been expecting a day of reckoning for Dani or why would the drug theme have been introduced in the first place? I don't think anyone thought or said that Dani's drug experience is just fine. However, I was expecting her to experience an overdose. The way things transpired (shades of Reefer Madness) has about the same verisimilitude as Erick's emergence from his coma but this is what the writers present us with... so be it.

UA,

"Eladio looked like he was falling for her act.

I thought that she was sincere and I'll bet a few others did as well. I thought that both she and Eladio displayed a lot of class in that scene.

The Lovely Linda and I have been to Las Vegas several times and with the exception of our first visit when we went with friends and stayed at the Riviera, we've always stayed at Caesar's Palace. Always lots of fun, but believe me, 3 days is plenty.

Carlos

Novelamaven...Yes, exactly what you said. .."wandering around the tawdriest, soulless place on earth." Now that is some symbolism right there. This show leaves me feeling a little twardry and soulless but mostly frustrated. I get very frustrated by people making bad situations worse...much worse. I am all about damage control and turning down the fan when the stuff hits it. These folks turn on more fans. Send in the anvils. Calling karma.

Carlos, I know two people who went to Vegas, each for four days. Neither had any desire to stay longer.

My mother stayed at Treasure Island (her then-boyfriend's son was an assistant manager, so they stayed there free) and said later she would have preferred to stay at Mirage. I guess she wanted to see Siegfried and Roy and their kitties. I know I would have.

A good friend of mine had a co-worker many years ago who saved $10K for a trip to Vegas (before the current crop of fabulous hotel complexes) and blew all the money in two days, three days before she was supposed to come home. I don't remember if she had to have someone else pay the hotel bill.

Kudos to the cinematographers for such gorgeous footage of Caesars'. I'd be tempted to dress Roman style for it.

Great recap UA. The ep sounds delicious! I am currently traveling due to job transfer so I'm relying on the wonderful recappers.

I loathe Art more with each passing ep. Dani had what Art thinks is one clean test and since she's in therapy hes back to running off on trips and obsessing over Julia. What a great Dad. Bottom line his ass should be close to home teaming with Nina to see his daughter through this crisis. You dont get cured over night Art.

Miguelito and Con, so glad I'm spared. I find them gross.

Regina please stfu. You did this to yourself.

Franco is in for a huge huge fall. I feel its going to be
Super ugly.

Petra and her galan sound so cute! If anyone deserves happiness it's this gem of a woman.

Don't be too harsh on Arturo. He is in Vegas ostensibly to attend a builder's convention and conduct business...as well as accompany Humberto. And, Humberto never asked Julia to come to Vegas to rescue him.

Why is Eladio so upset? He did divorce Julia, and she is free to go wherever she wishes. Smirking Franco is certainly enjoying Eladio's jealousy.

Delilah63, I agree with most of your post.

I don't think Arturo thinks that. He did tell Lulis to keep an eye on Dani. Nobody can watch an addict 24/7, not even a parent. There are Nina, Regina, Jorge, Lulis, David, Petra, and Eladio. However, the doctor on the house call was right in saying that Dani needs to be in residential rehab and the problem is that since she isn't a minor she can refuse with legal impunity. As I pointed out before, she's earning her own money and isn't on an allowance, so it's not like Arturo or Nina can take away her ATM and credit cards. It also occurred to me that Erick could enable her if he were so inclined.

I don't think Consuelo and Miguel are gross. BTW I first saw this actor in La Fuerza del Destino in which his sexuality was questioned when he couldn't do the deed on his wedding night after marrying the slutty character we came to call Merry Piece. But he was fine at the end.

Petra and her man are cute. I've seen him in a lot of series but can't remember the actor's name. Hate when that happens.

Franco's fall is going to be very ugly indeed. It could be the ugliest one yet for a villain of his age. I hate to agree with Humberto about anything because of how vile he has been to his family but here he is right.

Gobluefan, Eladio and Nina are both being unreasonably jealous. Neither has any legal rights over his/her ex. Both are obsessed.

Arturo's children aren't being realistic about the divorce either. Small children have a tendency to blame themselves and really get bent out of shape over their parents divorcing but shouldn't the younger generation of both families have seen divorce among the parents of their friends while growing up?

Humberto didn't ask Julia to come and get him, but he was definitely setting her up to do just that. I have the feeling he will die there before she can bring him home.

Enjoyed the lovely entry photo and the exquisite opening paragraph UA. Just perfect. Really set the tone.

Like some other commenters, I too found the scene between Eladio and Nina touching and poignant. Lots of pain there. Divorce does not end the ties between people. Divorce separates bodies and households. It does not separate hearts and minds. And the pain of being rejected does not vanish with a divorce decree.

NovelaMaven...Arturo mugging like he's in a low-rent porno flick? Is that what that was about? Really weird...he seemed to be opening up his jaws to devour her somehow. Did get a kick out of how she swished that sheet around.

Also enjoyed how when Eladio really goes into a rage, his therapist jumps up as if to defend himself. Yep, old Eladio can still scare the bejesus out of folks. The tiger lurks within. Of let's just say his "reptilian brain" is still firing rockets.

Thanks UA for all your dedicated work. We are very spoiled with this wonderful recapping team, diverse viewpoints not withstanding.

UA, thank you for posting your recap so quickly, I read it as soon as you posted, then felt into a delicious sleep. It was very good and interesting read. I will read all the comments shortly.

Kirbo, you have to admit that is was the first time they showed Dani totally freaking out needing her fix. It seems writers now want to show us that yes indeed she is a full blown addict.

I am convinced that lil manipulative maniosa girl has put a horrible guilt trip on her dad. She did not turn to drugs because Art didn't pay attention to her. She got everything and used to thrive on playing and using men and then dumping them. In her case, Imho, she is not a victim of anyone but her own narcisstic self. Some really turn to drugs because of rough life, but she probably turned to drugs because she can't even stand her own self. She is a liar and user. She is Eric's sister for sure. She is so jealous of her sister and Miggie.

As for David, it would be refreshing if for once "calmly" asked Julia about what he hears about her from others. I am at odds with him, because he believes everything he hears about her from the worst sources. So ready to defend his sister girlfriends, and let them diss his mother and shows absolutely no loyalty to Julia. He is so ready to believe the worst. Maybe, just maybe Julia needs to b...ch slap him when he doesn't show respect to her and turning his jive back on her.

Leticia

UA Thanks again, great write-up. I agree about M & C:
Aye yie yie the Miguel bashing. Miguel looks for all practical purposes
like a healthy NOT overweight kid his age. He does not look like the steroid
freaks commonly swooned over. Yeah, kinda scrawny, kinda brainy, no beer gut.
No steroid arms, BTW there is always a trade-off. Nothing is free.

Leticia: We got a preview of Ms. D when she and Dave were at her beach photo shoot and she sneaked out to buy 'something' and "dumber than a box of rocks Dave" who is totally in luuurve and her soul mate did not suspect a thing. Yup buddy you are really tuned in to the same stations aren't you two?

Thank you very much for the recap on last night's episode!

1.) Erick's likely going to get Connie & Miguel whacked!

2.) Franco's downfall will be UGLY, which will result in Gaby being together with Aguie, who will be there for her!

3.) David is still STUPID!

As soon as I first saw Daniela drunk or high I knew there was going to be an addiction story in this. Nothing about Arturo said he ever encountered this in his family of origin and we know nothing about Nina with regard to this (I'm guessing there also was none there) but these things do begin somewhere. Also, when a novela family has three or four children of this age group there is always at least one who is a total screw-up or trouble-maker.

I wish we had more information on the parents of Arturo, Eladio, and Nina. In other novelas there used to be photos on mantlepieces or sideboards showing the previous generation, using older actors we know from other series. Those were clues to the sort of people the parents of our "mature" characters were. The last time I remember seeing that was in ENDA where Luis Couturier (of EHdlS) was shown as the father of Carlota, Macarena, and Javier. He had a stern expression that spelled "hard-line traditionalist." No flashbacks to him, though, but not necessary. In LSdP we had nothing like this. We saw a brief flashback of Severiano's grandfather, but nothing about his father. We didn't even find out his name or the names of Candela's parents.

I've pretty much given up hope that we will find out anything really substantive about Nina's family of origin at this point. If there is any possibility we will I vote that it will happen when Erick finally admits having raped Consuelo. That looks like it could lead to Nina freaking out and a reveal that she was raped by a family member, family friend, or someone else she knew back then.

Deliliah: Unless Aguie & Arturo send Erick OJ Simpson to prison, I'm afraid that Erick will either hire someone to kill Connie & Miguel or do it himself!

Erick's downfall is going to get very VIOLENT!

Steve:
1.) Erik has his hands full with his personal blackmailer, I wonder if he can afford to hire more staff. At the last staff meeting he told him he was almoast broke.

2.) Not ugly enough for me. I'm thinking bound to a stake on an anthill and letting some of our friendly little Fire ants move him into the mound one antload at a time.

3.) I just cant best you on that one. I'm sure Dani would agree.

Little late to the party, but thank you UA for a stellar recap and enjoyed all the comments munching away at my sandwich on a quick late break.

I have been no fan of Nina's, though I think the subtle changes in her with each revelation has been well done by the actress. Last night's scene with Eladio I thought was one of the best scenes in this whole TN. FINALLY, real emotion and realization without dramatics. It was seeing two people, who though they agreed to a divorce and accused their partners accordingly, were holding on to hope that somehow those same partners would come back to them. I also think there was self- awareness that how they thought they were supposed to be around their spouses actually drove them away. Nina's statement on not being enough to me showed that, just like Eladio (the poor schlep who clawed his way to the top using every dirty trick in the book) had insecurities in those relationships so profound it screwed up what they really wanted out of their spouse and how they should have behaved.

The fact they didn't fall into a tangled heap was a nice surprise by the writers. That would have been just too trite and to me, kicked their self awareness to the curb. Eladio will be the one who is on the fence how he handles things and that may be the more intriguing of the plots going forward.

As for Art-- good lord man stop acting like a 16 year old. The way he looked at Julia when he saw her was just like....JORGE. He has no clue who she is, he's in love with a dream and an image he's made in his head. He doesn't listen to her, he doesn't see her lack of interest, it's sad really.

I thought Dani's panic at not being able to get to her crutch to make her hurt go away was very believable. I had a friend in high school who did drugs, not heavy, but enough to deal with an abusive home situation. He was so used to taking something each time something happened to dull himself or get that "high" that when he couldn't, it was like a panic attack. The pent up crying and emotions were almost uncontrollable. That's what she reminded me of last night. Her home life was hardly abusive, but being ignored or only worth how you look to get attention can be emotionally shallow to someone growing up. Hopefully both parents bury their personal crap and help her.

Lulis did her no favors and should fess up too. I'm starting to feel bad for Jorge putting up with this family and then will get kicked to the curb.

Daisynjay

Thanks, Urban. Terrific opening and recap and stunning photo.

Leticia, ITA what you said about David. After all Julia’s sacrifice to keep him safe from Eladio’s ire all those years, he's showing little understanding of his mom.

Franco saying Eladio and Julia will not ever get back together makes me think that just the opposite will happen. Among all his anvils, Franco maybe will have to live (in prison?) knowing that Eladio is happy as a clam with Julia. Maybe I need to see a shrink myself, but despite Eladio's crazytalk I don't think he'd deliberately kill anyone at this stage in his life. (I'm still not sure if he helped along his mentor's death back in the day.)

Eladio’s nightmare/fantasy of Julia in huge sheet (interesting that it was white instead of scarlet red) and Art fully dressed in a suit and tie was a hoot. !Qué horror! What ugly kissing Eladio’s mind conjured up for Arturo.

Everytime Humberto pulled the slot machine lever, I wondered if the Big One was about to come. This is the most strenuous thing he’s done in ages.

Caesar’s Palace should be very pleased with their product placement last night. Seemed like that longshot of the palace lasted for ages as Arturo and Julia were talking outside. Gorgeous place, but it infuriated me not to see their faces during that conversation.

Unless I missed something,my impression was that this was a convention not some high powered client Art had to meet. So my opinion stands..Art shouldnt be catering to Hum or indulging his obsession (Julia). Regardless of Dani's bratty tendencies shes still a daughter with adfiction issues. Her situation is far more cincerning than Ericks head injury bs or Miguels impulsive hero displays. I guarantee while you can't babysit an addict and or rearrange your life, running to Vegas isnt going to be to be on your list of priorities.

I dont blame David for not picking up the signs. Adddicts are clever and sly. They will carefully cover their tracks...until it is beyond covering up. David is naive and insome ways sheltered.

Interesting about Miguel. Mileage for sure varies. He was charming in Sombra...but even then I did not get any sort of sexy vibe off him.

Still chuckling at "Everytime Humberto pulled the slot machine lever, I wondered if the Big One was about to come. This is the most strenuous thing he’s done in ages" Niece. Excellent!

And yes. Years ago we had an "ugly crier" label here at Caray. Not that the people doing the crying were ugly, only that their attempt at try to was rather hideous (for various reasons). Arturo gets the "ugly kisser" award for that scene. Oh my...

Diana

Niecie...

Diana

No time today---but thank you Urban.

Before last night, Dani looked like just a recreational user but now it looks like the drugs have got her. I don't like Daniela but nevertheless I feel bad for her. Drugs can destroy anybody.

must see tv
the gringo

Diana, yes, for that scene. Normally JS most certainly doesn't qualify for that one!

Delilah63, Jaume Mateu (Miguel) definitely isn't an Alpha. He will probably always be the Intellectual or Shy Brother of some main character until he ages up to playing somebody's father, teacher, doctor, lawyer, or shrink.

Have there been any supporting character priests since LSdP? Are they losing ground to shrinks?

I had no problem with Jaume Mateu in LSdP as Pato. It's the Miguel character that has done the actor a disservice.

Oh wouldn't I love to see Padre Jerónimo about now. He'd straighten everybody up

Thanks for your great recap UA. I'll post more later.

UA...thanks. I still don't know how you do this. The entire episode? WOW!

Niecie in MD. Art and Julia's kisses have always been awkward to me. There's no true 'realistic' passion to them. That crazy kiss last night (even in Eladio's nightmare) was just more of the same awkwardness that I get from them.

Because I didn't start with this Patio, I don't know if this has been brought up; however, the first episode where there is an argument with Julia and Eladio and what sounded like a gunshot always seemed to me as if it were..."the last episode" how it's going to end (or maybe now that I've been pro-Eladio) that it's maybe the penultimate episode.

Listening to all of this death talk from Eladio (not a spoiler just a guess) if I think about that episode as the last one...does Eladio shoot himself? Julia shoots him? Just speculation because I have no idea what's going to happen. I just keep coming back to it because I remember thinking of it in those terms when the first episode aired.

Until the camera went upstairs in that opening episode and we saw who was fighting I wondered whether this series was leading with a murder. I rather like those kind of stories.

However, the title of this dictated otherwise.

For the last few years the writers really play with our heads during the last two dozen episodes or so until the end, sometimes to the detriment of good story-telling and proper character development. I don't think one needs to go that far to be unpredictable.

I was surprised to see Humberto wasting his precious energy pulling the arm on that slot machine, plus it can also cause a painful slot machine shoulder. However, I've been told by slot machine experts (the ladies who sit for hours on end working a single or sometimes two or more machines) that it's necessary to actually pull the arm to demonstrate commitment and love to the machine so it will reward you in return.

The roulette wheel has some of the worst odds but can be a relaxing place to kill time, waste a little money, enjoy a drink, and chat with amiable people. Folks like Humberto are generally rather amiable, hopeful, and have great stories. I have also seen people stand for long periods of time by a roulette table carefully jotting down each number as it hits... I suppose looking for a winning trend.

Carlos

Thanks Urban!! Sorry to be late to the party but I'm a day behind.

Real quick, gosh I hope Eladio doesn't die!!!

And I've stayed at the Venetian and it was the most beautiful room ever. But loved walking around the Caesar.

My only experience was on a cruise ship, which I understand have the worst odds. I dressed up before going down and saw that most of the other passengers were in shorts or other equally informal clothes. Big disappointment. After losing $95 I stopped.

RIP Merle Haggard

Thought about Eladio and Nina as I listened to this classic:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohyrBDJkksM

Hubba is often lucky. They used to run buses to Atlantic City , and we went once. Every passenger was given 20 dollars in quarters. Hubba was winning; I was losing. After I !ost all my quarters , he gave me some of his. I lost them, too. We were playing slots , and I like to pull the handle..otherwise...what's thge point ?. Hubba also won a couple hundred dollars on a cruise ship and at an AC casino The Borgata where we went to see a concert by Hall and Oates. He played poker in the Navy and often won. I'd rather just keep what I have and not risk losing it.

Sandy. Yeah so sad. Going where the lonely go. Pneumonia. So Long Mr. Haggard

It is about half an hour before tonight's ep. I am wondering what the people around Dani will do. She has lied, falsified a test, and had an undeniable withdrawl meltdown. Will the people who profess to care for her actually DO SOMETHING now?

Weighing in on Vegas; I think it just depends on what you deem a good time. I love to get dressed up and eat some place swanky, lounging over good atmosphe%e, drinks and food. I personally dont enjoy casinos or gambling. I did enjoy the shows but over all it wasnt my thing.

UA, this was a very inthralling recap. I hate that franco is sich a turd. I really wish someone would slap that nasty ass smurk off his ugly face. I can't stand him. He needs something mcuh worst than an anvil. Him and hoverround hummy.
My heart kinda goes out to eladio. He really loves julia. I'll be glad when she realize that. And what a liar franco is. Ok all For now. Its gettin better now that its commin to an end.

Thank you UA, YOU'RE GOOD EGG.

Where was Caridad this week ? Did she go on a vacation break or something

Caridad can stay missing. She is the most annoying character tied with Marintia.

Hi Sandy, thank you for posting the link for Merle Haggard's "lonely song." I had never heard it before and I loved it! I can certainly see why it reminds you of Eladio y Nina.

There is a particular song of Merle that I used to hear all the time, never paid attention to lyrics. But then one night while driving around, it came on and I listened to the words and wow, It really really got to me. Everytime I hear it now, it jolts me, don't know why it has quite an effect on me. The name of that song is...."He stopped loving her today." Well, that song totally reminds me of Eladio with his unending love for Julia. In fact, last night when Eladio threw Jules picture than picked it up and started crying, it brought that song to mind. Then I hear Merle passed on today.
RIP, Merle, truly truly a legend. I regret never seen him perform. What a manly, sincerely wonderful voice he had. If I could paste a link to that earworm I would do it. I did post a link once, but cant remember hiw I did it.

Leticia
