El Hotel de los Secretos #61, 4/21/16: Diego Survives But Unintentionally Gives up a Secret

Diego is back at the hotel and he is being cared for by doctor Vacairo and Matilde. Isabel, his wife who wants to become a doctor just stands there and stares. I'm scared for her future patients.

It looks like he might survive the attack which they determine was caused by a knife, the conclusion seems to be that he was another victim of the GKK, Diego is only at risk now if he gets an infection, everyone leaves and Isabel stays with her husband. Diego is running a high fever and confuses his wife with his dead father is law (who that's possible I'll never know but let's roll with it).

In his state Diego says the following:
Diego (confusing Isabel for her father): "I was surprised you haven't come by sooner to visit me, what did you come here for, to see me die? You've been waiting impatiently for my time to come, right? {In reaction to the way Isabel is looking at him} If I'm dying it's thanks to you"
Isabel: "You are not going to die, you just need to rest"
Diego: "You and I are never ever going to rest in peace, Isabel is smart and our fingerprints all over the place, she'll figure it out what I've done, but she'll finally, finally figure out what you are."- he keeps repeating that line over and over again.

So another mystery! We know Romulo couldn't keep it in his pants, but was there something more sinister going on, and if so what? And what role did Diego play in it, what ever it was it seems to be a BIG DEAL. Diego, during his little speech pulled out a box and gave it to Isabel, in the box there was a drawing with instructions, Isabel takes the drawing and gives it to Julio to take to Ayala, she needs to stay home to look after Diego.

Elisa is up to no good and is calling her attorney, she has the letter from hunky priest that says that Sofia is a nutter, and she wants to start the annulment process, but there's a tiny lil problem: the letter is not enough and she will need witnesses that can testify to Sofi being crazy, however, we see that Sofia looks a million times better, to the point that two of the guests from the hotel remark on it. Good luck getting her declared crazy. Anyhoo, Sofia is not amused by Beatriz hanging out with her husband, and she's totally snarky when Beatriz expresses concern over Diego telling the other woman to stuff it as she knows her family's well being does not matter to her.

Teresa in on the warpath after learning that her brother in law implicated Felipe in the murder of his father. She slaps him and then knocks a drink from his hand and tells him it's one thing to go after the hotel and the lands, but it's another thing to go after her children, especially when Felipe did nothing wrong. Later in the episode she goes to visit Felipe in jail and he too gets slapped.

Meanwhile, Melibela scolds the working girls for crying over Genaro who was an animal, she reminds them of the cruel beating he gave them, one woman had a miscarriage because he kicked her in the stomach repeatedly, another took a beating just for visiting an aunt, and Malibela was sold to his drunken friends like a cow, she also reminds him that he made them sick and demands that they not cry for him. Jorge/Manuela is at the bar and asks to speak to her privately, she then hands her a bag of money that Genaro had kept hidden and tells her that as Genaro's widow the money belongs to her. Malibela refuses, saying she was not married to Genaro but Jorge/Manuela reminds her that she was his business partner and that the money belongs to her as much as it belonged to him.

Jorge/Manuela is still at the bar when Ayala and Dagoberto show up asking questions about a friend of Felipe's, Eusebio something or other, if they can't find the friend Felipe may be staying in the pokey for a long while.

Lupe asks Don Benji for a favor, he has Ben write a letter to his ex-wife letting her know that their boy is in trouble and asking her to come back in order to help the boy. I for one give zero f*cks about Jacinto.

Angela and Andy make up, and she goes with him to the court house to be legitimatized as an Alarcon.

Teresa offers Alfredo the general management position of the hotel, later she asks Isabel if she is willing to help and fight for her family, Isabel answers with a simple "NO"

Ayala cracks the code on the papers Isa found, it's Orion and they go off to the hotel to see where it leads.

The end.

Looking forward to your recap Princess. Heading home from the office,so have to catch later.

All I can say is....oh that Doc and Diego scene with the water. If looks could kill.

Daisynjay

Yay Princess! I've already forgotten almost everything that happened last night.

Agree Daisynjay: (Now that you remind me) Doc and Diego scene was priceless. I hope we see it again tonight.

The only other thing I remember was Benjamin writing the letter for Lupe. Is that the same writing set we saw the other night with the GKK?

That scene also reminded me that supposedly Angela is helping Lupe write a cookbook. That's one of the reasons I don't suspect Lupe of being GKK: he has something going on that we can expect to be a big moment for him later on. They wouldn't have set that up if he were going to end up dead or in prison.

I guess the Doc remembered where he knows Diego from, probably sth to do with his daughter. That last scene was a shocker, no bedside manner for Diego. Go Doc!

Are we down to Benji as the GKK?

I was thinking last night how creepy Jacinto's eyes were. Then realized if he were a good guy, I'd probably think they were beautiful.

Perhaps the GKK killer will go after Mati and Ayala will save her and that will be the start of their romance. Normally, I don't go for the guy saving the girl--especially someone like Mati who can definitely take care of herself--but in this case, I'd go for it.

I'm a bit peeved at the writers. I don't like the fact that Isa is a medical student, too, but generally stays out of the way and lets the doc and Mati do all the doctoring. It make her look weak.

Nanette

She is weak. She not only lets Mati do all the doctoring, but she let her mother pick her husband. She almost starting thinking for herself and escaped, but even then it was under Julio's direction. Maybe she needs to be attached by GKK and save herself in order to break the pattern.

Ok, she does show some strength in trying to get out of sex with said husband, but I'm not sure that counts. At least it'll be easier now with his injury. But really, Sofia has shown more gumption lately. I hope she keeps it up because she's more interesting when she's not drug-adled and able to use her brain.

Kelly

My favorite parts: Milibea giving a pep talk to her girls telling them to not grieve Genaro's death but to remember all the horrible things he did to them. Then later Jorje/Manuela comes in with the bag of money she and Felipe took while they were burying Genaro. She told Milibea that the money was hers and that Genaro had it hidden and now it's hers since she is his widow. Milibea remarked that they were never married, but Jorge/Manuela tells her she was with him as a business partner and by default still a wife and that makes her a widow. (I think that was the gist of it).

I like the new Sophia but Alfredo makes me angry parading around with Beatriz as though he's free to be dating. Then his crazy mother thinks she has so much power by going behind Alfredo's and Sophia's back trying to get their marriage annulled.

Oh and Ayala approaching Milibea asking about Garrido.....Milibea said it had been months since he had been around.

So what could the constellation Orion mean to Ayala? And why does Diego have the paper? We know he's not the GKK, but does he know who is?

I liked:
The Melibea rant,
Jorge/Manuela turning over the money to Melibea.
Teresa not happy seeing that Felipe had all of his fingers.
Ayala so excited when he made his Eureka! Orion discovery. Never knew he could move so fast.
Dagoberto having to stay and look after Felipe. Too bad!

In response to a couple of comments regarding Isabel standing back while Mathilde and Dr. V. do all the doctoring: Doctors are not supposed to treat family members, especially in surgery. Also, I seem to remember when Isabel left school to come back home that she was supposed to come back and finish her exams. Did she ever take her exams? Perhaps she never took them.

Two other thoughts:

It's a good thing Vic seems trustworthy, she knows an AWFUL lot.

When Sofia was snarky to Beatriz, I thought that she might end up turning into another Teresa. But there was a look on her face when she saw Alfie kissing Beatrz' hands, which was enigmatic to me. I felt she was either not happy about it, or she was thinking it might be the best thing for all concerned if she let Alfie go.

Thanks Princess!!

I was wondering if the dots on the map equaling the constellation Orion were the locations of the murders. Those were always varied and seemed to go for a victim that was in that location. Looks to me like the map is done? So what does it mean.

I found one reference quick tonight I found intriguing. In Mexico and Spanish folklore, the belt of Orion is known as Las Tres Marias (the Three Marys'.) These are represented as the virgin, the mother and the whore. Supposedly the symbolism was used later as a rebeliion piece by those trying to rebel against these roles that essentially were put upon them by men.

Now still can't figure out exactly how that plays plot wise and why a killer would plot those points. But I do rather like the idea the writers were aware of this folklore in how the created the female characters we have in this TN during this period.

Daisynjay

Thank you, Princess JuJu for the great recap!

Thanks Juju for the recap.

Cynthia: I understand that about treating family members. But there have been numerous occasions when Mati has stepped up to help the doc and Isa hasn't. I also thought that Mati was in the same class as Isa. So they would be at the same level medical knowledgewise if that's the case.

Thank you JuJu.

I thought that when Diego was talking to Isabel in his delirium, he was confusing Isabel with Teresa, not Romulo.

I suppose that since the secret of Andres being the real inheritor of the hotel is out, Teresa feels she no longer has to cater to Diego's threats.

Nanette: "I felt she was either not happy about it, or she was thinking it might be the best thing for all concerned if she let Alfie go."

Perhaps she was feeling both at the same time. She could have been thinking unhappily that it would be best for all concerned.

...or, Sofi might have been thinking "I wish he would stop openly hanging around with Beatriz right in front of me!!"

Thanks for the recap, Juju. "I for one give zero f*cks about Jacinto" made me laugh.

The friend of Felipe's that Ayala was asking about at the cantina was Garrido, Diego's dead flunkie. I don't think he's going to be answering any questions for them!

Teresa sure was on a slapping spree last night. Someday, someone will slap her back.

I know there's been some discussion about Isabel's weakness, but perhaps that's about to change. The "no" she gave her mother last night was pretty decisive! I hope it sticks.

I'm guessing that Vicario threw water on Diego's face because he had something to do with his daughter.

Interesting theory? Daisy, about the constellation and the location of the murders. But a huge mystery is why Diego had the paper about the constellation.

I can't wait to figure out what Diego and Romulo were up to, whatever it was Diego is scared that Isabel will find out but also happy that she will finally know what her dad was? I'm on the edge of my seat.

That letter that Romulo wrote that Cristina had said that he rued the day that he ever met Diego. So at first they may have been in cahoots about things, but then it went very wrong.

But what things? Does it have to do with the GKK? Or other shady dealings?

I doubt the GKK has anything to do with Romulo and Diego. I mean about shady business dealings. Or more likely Diego wanted to do shady business and Romulo didn't. They say that Isabel takes after her father, and we know she's a straight arrow who is fair-minded, for the most part. Diego may have involved Romulo in things he didn't want to be involved in, and then had to go along to some degree to work things out? Who knows, we haven't been given any info on any of that yet.

I don't know, Romulo was not what everyone expected or believed him to be and Diego's line about Isabel finally finding out what "he was" suggests to me that something dark was going on.

I thought Diego was confusing Isabel for Teresa too (darn ambiguous/absent pronouns), but Univision's headline for the video of that scene is Diego confundió a Isabel con don Rómulo.

The scene with Doc and Diego at the end was great too. Doc looked like he wanted to hurt him so badly. Maybe he poisoned Doc's daughter, or was abusive to her.

Or maybe Diego got Doc's daughter pregnant and left her or told her to get rid of it and she died. I can't remember what he said happened to his daughter.

Thanks, Juju! I didn't get a chance to watch yet, but I am going to have a great Hotel watchathon this weekend.

Thanks Princess Juju...I often miss your recaps because I never get back to the computer late in the day. Hope your foot issues have resolved completely and that you will be in sparkling health from now on.

And welcome back Vivi, and thanks for your recap of the previous episode. And wow! you're a celebrity! being recognized on a trip by a CarayCaray reader was awesome. Maybe someday, when you're traveling internationally, the same thing will happen. The blog is read all over the world it seems.

Count me in as one who enjoyed the water in the face scene, as well as every one of Diego's yelps and groans.

And Daisynjay, loved the info on the constellations and Orion's belt/vs the three Marias. So much fun to discuss this intriguing novela together.

I'm watching the epi now. Aww! I'm so glad Andres made up with Angela. And Ole totally hit the target about Teresa using her kids for her own ends, when she accused him of using Felipe. Touche!

Judy- You might get recognized one day too, with your lovely smiling photo!

Well it's gone now. At least the one on the sidebar. But who knows...they'd need 20/20 vision though!
