El Hotel do los Secretos #57, 4/15/16: Let's make a deal, A hotel for the baby

Before I begin, I want to point out something that’s been bugging me since Thursday’s episode. Andres asked Julio and Isabel if they already knew that he was Romulo’s son, and both replied that they did, and that made him mad because they kept that secret from him. But Belen also knew, and for a much longer time than they did, since way back when Cristina died, and then she wanted to marry him, but she gets a pass about knowing and not telling him. Hmmmm.

Ok, here we begin. Andres and Belen get married in the church, while Ayala is investigating where the arsenic came from. But the druggist’s brother, who we suspect is a bit of a psycho, has tied Ayala and Dagoberto up and is holding them at gunpoint, angry that they are asking questions. But the gunman’s brother shows up and demands that he put his pistol down, and is very sorry when he learns that they are detectives.

Teresa is giving Diego the riot act over this Belen mess. He was supposed to take care of all this, and he didn’t. He puts the blame on Olegario, but she comes back and says that if he had taken care of things like she wanted him to, Belen never would have met up with Olegario. He’s taken aback. Did she want him to actually kill her? She wanted him to take care of her the same way she wanted him to take care of Cristina, Elisa, Ayala, and all of the hundreds of other matters that she wanted him to take care of. Does Diego know what Belen has come back for? Yes, to recover her baby and marry Andres. Diego says that he will take care of it. Teresa tells him that he better because she will lose everything, the hotel and her daughter because Isabel found out that her father has been lying to her her whole life and she will realize that Teresa also has kept that secret.  If Teresa had realized that the baby was going to destroy her entire life, she would never have made Sofia take it. She would have let it die the day it was born. She then hears a sound, goes to find out what it was, and sees no one.

Isabel tells Matilde that Cecilia and Julio are lovers.

Back to the arsenic investigation, Ayala wants to see the books to find out who bought it. But they had a fire, and everything burned, so Ayala presses them to remember who may have bought it. They inform Ayala that their father is the one who dealt with it, but he was in the fire. He didn’t die, so Ayala asks to talk with him, but the brothers are very cagy about it, so something is weird about this.

The happy couple is back at the hotel with Olegario. He wants them to celebrate, but Belen only wants to get her son. Oleg stops her but Belen said the baby has nothing to do with this agreement. Agreement? Andres wants to know what agreement, and Oleg quickly covers and says the agreement to bring her back to the hotel, to tell Andres the truth, and to help fulfill Romulo’s wishes of declaring he's his son. Andres backs up Belen about recovering the baby and Oleg leaves. Belen runs to Sofia’s room and encounters the wetnurse, loses it that the baby is gone and she can’t understand her language.

Cecilia is in Julio’s room waiting to have sex with him again, when Julio arrives. He hears Andres shouting outside his door asking where his son is and Julio leaves to go check on him. Andres is on a tear in the kitchen, yelling at everyone, including his mother. Lupe jumps in to defend her, then Julio arrives and gets him out.

Diego is putting the ransom money in a bag, and Teresa is asking questions about the group who kidnapped Filipe. All Diego knows is there are 5 of them. Diego calls Jacinto into the room, he’s going to make the payoff, and Teresa tells Jacinto that she doesn’t want any of the 5 to end up alive. Yikes!

We find out where the baby is. He’s being registered under Alfredo’s name. His name is now Alfredo Vergara Alarcon.

Jacinto arrives at the meeting place with his own posse at the same time the banditos do, who are on horseback, even Filipe. They ride toward Jacinto, who looks like he’s ready to poop a brick. After much gunfire back and forth, the banditos grab the money bag and leave.

Ayala and Dagoberto are now sitting down for a meal with the brothers. They bring in the father on a wheelchair, and find out quickly that the father is suffering from Alzheimer's. They will probably not get the info they want.

Violeta and Natalia are taking Gabriel home. He unleashes on Violeta, blaming her for his blindness, she runs off and Natalia asks why he said that. He said he didn’t want to saddle her with a blind man.

Julio has brought Cecilia her breakfast, and she wants to know why he’s changed so much, why he’s still at the hotel.  He tells her it’s because he wants to know what happened to his sister and he doesn’t want to get found out who he is. He doesn’t believe the story that they told about how she died and he wants to get to the bottom of it. Ultimately, Julio promises her that he will get back together with her after he solves his sister’s murder. That seems to pacify Cecilia.

Jacinto fills Teresa in on what happened. She lost 2 men in the shootout. Did Jacinto see Filipe? no, where’s the money? the banditos took it. She swears. She wants to talk to Diego, but he’s in a meeting with the investors for the country club, but Diego said that she knew about it. Well, Teresa didn’t.  Jacinto leaves and Teresa has a panic attack, saying that when they discover the money is fake, they will kill Filipe.

Back at the cave, the banditos are treating their wounded man and they start to argue. Filipe asks if it’s worth losing a man for the money, while he sits drinking and looking at the money. He seems to realize the money is fake.

At the country club meeting by a waterfall, the investors tell Diego that Elisa already told them what happened. Diego asks what she told them, they say that the CC project is the project of her son Alfredo and that Diego took advantage of her and robbed his idea.  He denies this, but they tell Diego that Elisa and son are respected, honorable, and the land is theirs too. They are ending their business venture together with him, he’s a bad guy with a bad reputation, and he better not try to find other investors because they know a lot of people.

Andres tries to console a crying Belen, but the only thing that will help is that he brings her their baby.

Jacinto is carrying a small wooden box with a note from the kidnappers. He asks some guys to read it for him, it says bring this to your boss, with some insults to Jacinto thrown in for good measure.
Diego delivers the bad news to Teresa, she can’t understand why Elisa did this. I can’t understand why Teresa is surprised. Jacinto barges in and puts the box on the desk. Diego opens it and there lays a finger.
Outside, Andres is beating up Alfredo, trying to get his son back while Elisa and Victoria look on. Julio, Isabel, and Diego arrive to see what the ruckus is about, Julio drags Andres away and Isabel tells Diego to get the doctor to look at Alfredo. Diego approaches Elisa and tells her that he found out what she has told the investors about him and he's not happy, she replies that’s good, that was the idea. Lol.

Julio drags Andres inside but Andres wants to be left alone. Isabel shows up and tells Julio that she needs to talk to him so they go to his room to talk.

Malibea, Violeta, and Cecilia are at Genaro’s bedside. Cecilia got some mercury with opium injection for Violeta to give him, but he fights them off.  I did some research, and in the early part of the 1900s, mercury was tried as a cure, but it’s help was limited, and it often left the patient crazy.
Malibea asks Cecilia to be her business partner, and she agrees.

Oleg is looking at some papers when a desperate Andres comes in. He needs his help. He will do anything to get his son back, even if he has to give up the hotel to do it. That’s just what Oleg wants to hear.

Down in Julio’s room, he asks Isabel what she wants to talk about. She wants to know the truth, what is going on between him and Cecilia.

The end.

Great Cathyx and thanks

"They ride toward Jacinto, who looks like he’s ready to poop a brick"

Only an association with a walking wrecking ball like Felipe would bring down a gang of hiway men.

Yep, Belen knew but unlike Julio and Isabel, "they" tried to kill her too.

Why didn't Isabel tell Matilde CeCe slept with Diego or have more concern for her own health? Both men she slept with slept with a prostitute and there is a syphilis epidemic.

Good point about Cecilia and syphilis. I wonder how long you can have it before you know you do.

Gracias, Cathyx. Great work.

Women can be asymptomatic in both syphilis and gonorrhea. Syphilis is not permanently contagious but it digs itself in and can eventually destroy the brain and other organs as well as causing deformities. Isabel should be in panic mode about this.

Alfredo now has a target on his back that Belen will likely aim at.

Andres made such a boneheaded statement that made him fall into their trap. Belen may not realize that she has been used. This whole thing is going to blow up and innocent people are going to suffer.

Belen wants her baby and the hotel. When she finds out that Andres gave up the hotel, she will be livid. Her whole point of marrying him was to get the hotel. She could have gotten the baby without Andres.

Another great episode and a great recap! Thanks, Cathyx.

Yes, you think that Isabel would be more carefully about syphilis.

Interesting. Jacinto seemed to recognize the name "Manuela" (Jorge) when he heard it mentioned. Cannot wait to find out about Jorge/Manuela's background.

On to Minday!

Thanks cathyx.

Like I ventured yesterday, Belen has been had, and with that so has Andres. He will wind up with nothing. Belen will drop him like a hot potato. Lord that will be painful to watch. He is so gullible and trusting...but of the wrong people. How tragic really is his story when you think about it.

Anyone else actually cheer Elise for the first time ever? Diego and Teresa were having a really bad day. Boo friggin' hoo.

Thinking the bandits will have more impact on this story then just with all things Jorge and Felippe. When they find they've been had, will they attack the hotel?
I really, really want someone to just burn that thing down, or drive all the residents out, ruining all Teresa's plans. Maybe the link to Sophia being declared insane...this hotel in real life was a mental institution. That would be so brilliant to have it turned into one in this tale and we see a few chosen characters suddenly in residence. Now I could buy into that twist.

Daisynjay, I think they realized they had been had. That's why they sent the finger.

Cathyx thanks for a well-written, informative recap and for even doing research on the use of mercury in the treatment of syphilis.(and thank God for spellcheck)

Regardless of her reasons, I found Belen's distress over the disappearance of her baby hard to watch. Anything that concerns separation of mother and child seems unendurable to me. And that's why I actually felt sorry for ol' blood-thirsty Teresa. Felipe is a waste of oxygen, but he's HER waste of oxygen and to have him in danger is torture for her. And that was BEFORE the finger.

This telenovela continues to be riveting. And the recaps as well. Many thanks.

Thanks Judy B.

This whole Filipe thing is funny. He's helping his kidnap ransomers soak money from his own mother.
I think the finger is probably from the one wounded bandito who didn't live so they cut his finger off to use it. Teresa would have no idea it wasn't Filipe's finger.

I agree. I don't think the finger belongs to Felippe, since if Manuela has feelings for him, I doubt she would allow that. He is more a comrade in this endeavor anyway.
But Teresa doesn't know that. I see all this destruction of her children as pay-back for how she was as a mother. We've heard from her that Sophia was "difficult" and Felippe was wild and since Isa was favored by her father, she got nothing in the emotional department from her mother. She just became a good pawn to use since she was the least messed up. So comeuppance for Teresa, yep.

And to some extent, though recent to motherhood, the tale is playing out with Belen as well. She was very willing to use her child, before she saw two and did hold them, as a means to an end. I've always felt that watching Belen is the young version of Teresa. She at least got that attachment to her children earlier, but I wonder how loving and dedicated she will be if life throws her a wrench and she winds up with nothing. Would she sell the rights to her child for money if push comes to shove?

Teresa reminds me of a mafia godfather, or in this case, mafia godmother. She wants everyone who gets in her way to be killed. She conspires with her "right hand man" Diego to pull off the "hits" on Jorje's gang and was so upset that Diego didn't kill Belen. Teresa must be the one behind her own husband's death but used someone else to commit the deed.

As it's all a guessing game as to who killed Romulo, my guess is Benjamin.

To whom it may concern:

I'm going to try to get the high points / low points list posted before tomorrow night's episode. But I may not get it done until Tuesday.

Thanks, Cathyx! I love that the kidnappers have literally given Teresa the finger.

I watched Tuesday's episode yesterday and noticed that Mimi's husband said Diego looks familiar. (I know Nandicta commented on this too.) A long while back, I think I joked that maybe Diego had been part of a vaudeville act. Now I'm not so sure that's a joke! Otherwise, it's very bizarre that both the doctor and Mr. Mimi think Diego's familiar. (Do the doctor and Mr. Mimi know one another?)

Another way they might both recognize him would be from a WANTED poster... but then, bounty hunters would have tracked him down by now. Most curious.

Anyway. Andres not being angry with Belen for keeping the secret. I guess the magical difference for her is that, unlike Julio, Isabel, Angela, and everyone else who was in on the conspiracy, Belen is the one who (eventually) told him the truth. It doesn't matter if Julio was thinking about it; Belen beat him to it. Andres has always been dumb about Belen, but he is now blind with rage and not thinking clearly. He's more vulnerable to her than ever.

The fact that they married in a church means that Belen has to die if Andres is to end up with someone else. Else, Belen magically transforms into a wonderful woman who's worthy of Andres and they live happily ever after. Hmm. That doesn't seem likely.

Belen still has some unplayed cards in her hand: she knows Diego killed Garrido. She also knows where he and Baby #1 are buried. She can do a lot more damage before this is over, if Diego doesn't whack her first.

Thank you! Im watching 57 now so I will comment on more later.

First off I wish Jacinto to burn in hellfire. What he did to Gabe better deserve some darn great Karma! I thought that he would get redeemed and be with Violeta but now I just feel sad for Lupe. Matilde and Vio have the most balls in this show.

Not sure if I like the prospect of having more villians but if this results in deserved Karma for Diego&Teresa than its fine by me. Besides I like seeing Moizes Arizmendi again since for some reason he reminds me of Aidan Gillian so much. I am looking forward for Teresa's wrath on Ole and Belen.

Speaking of Belen I am quite conflicted with how I feel about her. On one side I want her to push Diego and Teresa down the cliff but she is a witch herself, she is even worse than Teresa. Tere may be a witch but she doesn't push around her employees unless there is a solid reason for it. The Hotel is still living and breathing because of Teresa and if Belen took hold of it it would go bankrupt just in a few days.

And I wish with all my heart that the GKK slaughters Elisa with his collection of knives . Then GKK could be nominated as the "Best Supporting Actor" . I just can't stand her anymore despite her antics against Diego. But then again i find the sanest place for Sofia to be in is with that pedo creep. If anything Gran Manicomio must be the reason that we get crazier and crazier villians every year. They just liked the place way too much!
