Sueño de amor #21 Wednesday 4/6/16

Wow! Another action filled episode. Our questions are finally being answered! So, let us get right to it!

We pick up the action inside the warehouse where La Sombra is keeping Esperanza. He is continuing to threaten her at gun point and threatening her. As the force of special agents engage La Sombra's henchmen, there is a lot of gun fire, hand to hand combat and a confrontation with a group of La Sombra mannequins. As Ricardo wonders which if any of the La Sombra figures are real in front of him, the voice of La Sombra greets him and tells him how much he enjoyed making Esperanza suffer. Ricardo shoots but La Sombra himself is long gone. In the background of much of the scene there in "James Bondish" music playing. Ricardo finally finds and unties Esperanza. He take her into his arms and apologizes for what he caused to happen to her. She just sobs.

At the same time, Tracy is at home on the phone with Mr. Parker, her lawyer, telling him that she does not have to feel sorry for him (Ricardo) because that is the only way to force him (to do what she wants). She hopes Mr. Parker understands. Talking to herself she tells Ricardo, her love, that one way or another he was looking for it (guess she is now giving it to him).

Still in the warehouse, Ricardo gives Esperanza his cell phone so she can call home and let the kids know she is okay. They all are ecstatic!!!!! ALL of the friends of Esperanza's kids are there. Even Ernesto is there and smiling. Pato is grateful to La Virgen de la Paz. Esperanza does not know what she is going to tell the kids without giving away Ricardo's cover. Shortly, Esperanza arrives home and there is a lot of hugging and tears of joy. She is careful about what she tells her kids. Ricardo invites Ernesto to go outside. Ernesto declines by telling him not to come any closer. Ernesto tells Esperanza that the reason he is there is that he has friends in the police department and was monitoring her rescue. Ricardo sort of breaks up the whole reunion reminding Esperanza that she has to go down to the station to file a report. Even Luca was there and missed his flight to support Esperanza.

Ricardo reminds Ernesto that he needs to speak with him. Ernesto sends Adrián and Luca on their way home so he can talk to Ricardo. The "talk" on the side walk quickly turns into an argument as Ricardo says that he knows that Tracy was at Ernesto's office. Tracy has hired Mr. Parker as her lawyer and Tracy does not have that kind of money to pay a lawyer like Parker so he suspects that Ernesto is footing the bill. Ernesto admits it. He is paying so that Tracy will get a judgment to take his (Ricardo's) kids back to Los Angeles. Ernesto reminds Ricardo that he told him not to mess with him and that this is only the beginning of his nightmares. Ernesto punches him in the jaw and knocks him off his feet. Ernesto's bodyguards respond with guns drawn but Ernesto motions for them to stay back. He will make Ricardo sorry for ever being born. Ernesto even admits that his guys were the ones who beat up Ricardo up when Ricardo voices his suspicions. What Ernesto cannot get his head around is how a simple school teacher has all of these abilities. He is also interested in his role in Esperanza's kidnapping since it was Ricardo who returned with her freed. Ernesto would like to know who Ricardo really is. The only important thing says Ricardo are his children. Ernesto says he knows that Ricardo adores his children and that if they go back to Los Angeles he will follow them there. He can't live with out them, or can he? Ernesto gets right in Ricardo's face and dares him to hit him again. Ricardo keeps his cool and says this will all be settled in another way. As he is leaving, Ernesto is yelling for Ricardo to just leave already and leave the road to Esperanza open for him. Ricardo is yelling that Esperanza hates Ernesto and loves him. Suddenly they are in each others' faces again.

At the Guerrero house, Esperanza has just taken a bath and Pato has brought her a hot cup of tea. It is 6:00 a.m. and Esperanza feels like a truck ran over her. Pato says she deserves the day off. Esperanza has never missed a day of work in twenty years. Pato says they will call the principal and she will bring her her fruit and yogurt. Pedro tells Kristel he is not going to school. He is staying home with his mom, too. Ara sees Kristel kiss Pedro, goodbye on the cheek and it bothers her. Pedro reminds his mom they have to talk and no lies between them, right?

Back on the side walk, Ricardo tells Ernesto that his story with Esperanza has not ended nor will it end. That is when Ernesto goes for the low blow with his finger in Ricardo's face reminding Ricardo how it was he Ernesto who had a daughter with Esperanza and not him. He made love to her, kissed her, touched her . . . Ricardo cannot take it and yells " shut up"  and for Ernesto to respect Esperanza. Ernesto just laughs and says it must really hurt because Esperanza was never "his" but Ricardo should not worry because she learned a real lot from him. Ricardo's comeback is that the only important thing about Esperanza is her present and he Ricardo is a part of that and nobody or nothing is going to change that. With that Ricardo walks away. Ernesto stops laughing and rubs his jaw.

When Luca and Adrián arrive home, Luca makes Adrián promise that if he has the urge to drink he is to call him and he will come to be with him. Luca loves his brother and will miss him.

Salma is going on and on about Adrián as Mario has just dropped her off at school. They are both on the sidewalk. He is not paying her much attention as he checkS himself out in the passenger side mirror and keeps glancing around. She notices he was combing his eyebrows, checking out his teeth, combing his hair. She wonders if he is sick or something. No, he is fine. Is he waiting for someone? No, who would he be waiting for? Salma changes the topic to credit cards. He reiterates how he has told her and her mother that they cannot spend so much. She clearly does not want to hear that and leaves. As he is checking himself again, the teacher Felicia that he talked to in a previous episode passes by. He is all excited and calls to her. She turns around and recognizes him. She remembers his name. He runs to her, trips and falls on his face. He jumps up smiling but one of his front teeth has broken off.

Ricardo is back at Esperanza's. Pato is off and tells Esperanza AND Ricardo she loves them. In the meantime as Ara is leaving and Pedro walks her to the door, Ara really puts her foot in it by telling Pedro she is jealous of Kristel because Pedro loves her and Kristel loves him back. Pedro is upset she wants to talk about something so serious like that right now after all that just happened with his mom, etc. Pedro feels like she is pressuring him and it is his decision after all. She just wants him to know that she loves him and wants him to be honest with her. Pedro looks exhausted and demoralized.

Esperanza and Ricardo move to a couch in the living room where Esperanza is acknowledging the fact that she never knew that La Sombra had killed Ricardo's best friend. Ricardo says that that criminal has done a lot of damage and has been responsible for many deaths. That is why it is so important to stop him. He also traumatized his son. Esperanza can understand that Ricardo has this obsession for catching La Sombra for the killing his friend and terrorizing his son. It turns out that the same night he terrorized Rodrigo, La Sombra killed his friend Mike. He had captured him and tortured him for days before killing him. Mike was his only friend. He killed him for revenge on Ricardo. La Sombra is a threat to society and has to be stopped.  Ricardo wants to pay him back for all he has done.

Poor Adrián is in his bedroom looking for his pajamas. He does not find them but he does find a partially filled bottle of liquor. He holds it and wonders what he is going to do with it.

Back on the couch, Esperanza is talking with Ricardo about what she went through in her kidnapping and getting more upset as she is doing it: her thoughts were going around in circles; she suffered; she was so afraid of never seeing her children again; she thought it was all over for her. Then besides that, she was really angry, really annoyed, furious with Ricardo because he put her and her children in danger amd all of this after he had disappeared from her life for TWENTY years! And he has not been able to give her an explanation. He says he has tried. She says he always talks around the issue. She brings up how he says he talked to Pedro's dad. Yes, he did call and talk to him. He told him that she was gone, she had left th city. She cannot believe it. It was his only phone call. She does not get the "only call" thing. It was his last call before he was processed into the central maximum security detention center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was in jail accused of murder.

Felicia has taken Mario to the nurse at the school where she is a new philosophy teacher (and Mario's wife Silvana is the principal unbeknownst to Felicia). The nurse tells him that his dentist can easily replace his "false tooth" that was knocked out. Felicia accepts Mario's invitation to coffee later today (before he can ask her.) A little comedy as they try to exchange cell phone numbers.

At Ernesto's house, he is taking a shower when his misguided wife Viviana decides to join him. He berates her: telling her he liked her years ago when there was some passion between them but he does not like her now. She had better not try something like this again. Doesn't she get it? He does not like to see her since she does not excite him like she did before. He tells her to cover up because she just embarrasses him. She should have some dignity. Viviana is crushed and sees herself as an old wrinkled up woman. The Botox did nothing for her.

Pedro goes over to Kristel's house to talk to her about "them."

Back on the couch, Esperanza is telling Ricardo that they used to be best friends and that he can always count on her to listen to him. He just finds it hard to talk about it. She encourages him to tell her the whole story. She will not judge him. He can trust her. He starts to tell his story. They crossed the border through the desert at Nogales. A group of "hunters of the undocumented" almost got them once. He tried to defend the group and got shot in the leg. He was in pain and losing blood but they could not quit walking. They didn't have a drop of water. They had a lot of canned food but no way to open it. They were desperate. Then the "hunters" came again and they got into a shooting match with them. One of the "hunters" got shot and died but his "hunter" friends did not kill them. They wanted them alive. There is a black market where undocumented immigrants can be sold. At that moment, the coyote and he were the only chance that several families had.

At the Alegría houses, Tracy is telling the kids they can get packed because they are moving back to Los Angeles. It is not a request. It is an order. No, their father will not be coming with them. Selena is not happy.

Back on the couch, Ricardo talks about the coyote shooting the "hunter" and how they all had to flee. The coyote and he were wounded but were the only ones who could distract the "hunters" so the others could be saved. He and the coyote were in bad shape and took refuge in a cave. Ricardo started shooting and . . . Pato comes on through looking for coffee interrupting the story. That is all of the story for now.

In Silvana's office at the school, she is asking Félix what are they going to do with three teachers out. Can they fire Esperanza? Félix reminds her that Esperanza is untouchable. He cites from  the rules and regulation book that Esperanza can be absent and still keep her job. Silvana is not pleased. Her secretary does a little dance.

At Kristel's house, Pedro is not beating around the bush. He talks about the truth always coming out. So the truth is that he loves her and has loved her for the very first day he met her. Since she didn't want anything with him, he settled to be just her friend. Now he can not hide it anymore. Kristel is angry and crying. How could he love her when he doesn't even know her? He is a liar like all men. He says he is being honest. Then why did he not tell her way back at the beginning? Because he would have lost her at the beginning. "Exactly!" is her answer. She has told him a thousand times that she loves Erasmo. She never wants him to speak to her again.

Adrián is still sitting on his bed with the bottle of liquor in his hand maybe going to open it but thinking about what Luca told him, when he hears a knock on the door. It is Viviana his mother. He opens the bottle and smells the liquor. He caps the bottle, hides it and lets his mom in his room. Viviana comes in talking about how the mirror is her worst enemy. She is not doing well at all.

At Esperanza's house, she and Pato are having coffee when Ricardo joins them. The topic is Luca and Esperanza telling Pato to fight for him. Esperanza says that true love is so hard to find and it can just slip through your hands and be gone forever (as she smiles at Ricardo.)

At the Alegría house, Rodrigo and Selena are packing and discussing going back to Los Ángeles. Rodrigo tells Selena she has to respect mom's choice. she asks why he wants to abandon their dad. Rodrigo wants to be together as a family again. He wants to be happy with mom, dad, and her. He blames himself for all of it. Selena tells him she loves him.

Back in Adrián's room, his mother Viviana is telling him more than he probably ever wanted to know about her relationship with Ermesto. As soon as she started to age, her skin got loose and everything headed south, Ernesto told her she was disposable: something to be used and thrown out. Adrián tries to comfort her as she goes on about how bad crow's feet are. He tells her what she has in her heart is more important than what is on the outside. She asks: what does she have in her heart?

Back at Esperanza's house, Pato is talking about how important it is that Ricardo and Esperanza clear up why they broke up twenty years ago and forgive each other. She excuses herself and apologizes for interrupting them in the first place.

Back in poor Adrián's room, Viviana is telling him how Ernesto never loved her. He married her for her father's company and then only stayed with her because she got pregnant with him (Adrián). Adrián realizes he was an accident. He then thinks back at all of the cruel things his father has said and done to him. Now he knows why his father has always rejected him: he hates him.

Observations:

The fight scenes at the beginning were okay and not as cheesy as I have seen in other novelas.

I sure hope that the latest revelations by Viviana do not make the bottle of liquor hidden in Adrián's room irresistible to him. He needs AA.

I felt particularly bad for Pedro because Kristel did not look just sad and angry she also looked disgusted by the very idea.

Does anyone know whose portrait (black and white photo of a woman) that was showcased in Esperanza's house? It was in the middle of the wall in the room behind the table. There was something that I read recently about an homage to Silvia Derbez being included in "Sueño de amor" so I was wondering if that was her.

That is all for now.

Jarifa, congratulations on yet another marvelous recap. Sensational.

This was a very interesting episode and I'm commenting based primarily on your stellar quotes.

There is something about Adrián that touches my heart. He appears to be mentally beaten down, tortured by alcohol, exhausted to the point that surviving takes a terrible toll. And why on earth did Vivi reveal “Adrián realizes he was an accident. He then thinks back at all of the cruel things his father has said and done to him. Now he knows why his father has always rejected him: he hates him”. What child should have to suffer like that?

Another soft spot? Mario. “He runs to her, trips and falls on his face. He jumps up smiling but one of his front teeth has broken off”. I couldn’t help but smile.

Pedro looks exhausted and demoralized. Why did Ara push? She has loved Pedro for a full hour. Why must she rush him?

Kristel handled Pedro’s admission badly. She should have listened as calmly as she could and gently tell him she needs to sort out her feelings. I can understand that she was upset realizing Pedro loved her all the while, but after processing, I hope she realizes she would never had been friends with him had he been honest. Honestly, I don’t see her with either Pedro or Erasmo (there’s something about her character that is not particularly endearing), but let’s face it. She has two wonderful choices.

“At Ernesto's house, he is taking a shower when his misguided wife Viviana decides to join him”. Ernesto dissed and dismissed her quickly, didn’t he? I am smiling as I still don’t think Vivi gets it.

Should we be moved by Ricardo's tragedies? Yes, I know I should be but I still find him one of less interesting aspects of this TN. I am totally wrapped up in the other storylines and found more intriguing elements in what transpired with Pedro and Kris rather than the shoot out!

Still love Esperanza though.

Jarifa, thank you, thank you.

Diana

Thanks! Great recap.

I am not moved by any of Ricardo's tragedies because he has not given yet a believable reason why eh left in the first place. All this has happened because he brought it on himself. Esperanza should be in therapy right now after that near death experience, but she is so stupid she is still swooing and feeling bad for him. Who is felling bad for her?
Oh, and my problem with Kracy is that she neglected her family for the gorillas and suddenly she didn't care for them anymore to come over here after a family she never cared for?

And I still have a lot of questions.

The painting on the wall suppose to be Silvia Derbez. I am sure the intentions are good, but they should have found a better artist. One thing cancels the other off. Thanks but no thanks.

El que mucho abarca poco aprieta and Osorio is all over the place with stupid animations, noises and now graphic violence. Who is this novela intended for, teens? Not for me for sure.
Now, I know Osorio is not going to kill Esperanza in the 20th episode, but, then why just scare her? What's the point if she didn't even demanded Ricardo with a better excuse or the WHOLE TRUTH IN ONE SITTING? She says, Oh, I am very upset right now with you, but inside is wishing he would kiss her? Sombra is never going to kill Ricardo either, I know, but this is getting old. For me, all this Esperanza being on the brink of death is something you can not forgive or forget this easily.

Kracy is another one with the Luca syndrome leaving and not leaving leaving and not leaving. Every day she says she is leaving and even packing and nothing. Moving here is enchílame otra, very easy to change addresses, disconnect/reconnect services, hld mail, and all that that happens in real life when you move.

So far, nobody (of the people who ignores the sombra existence) has asked or insisted in knowing why she was kidnapped? Nobody is a bit suspicious?

Esperanza acknowledge it when asked, what are we going to tell my kids?
Don't worry, should have said Ricardo, remember that I am a professional liar...

The fight outside between Ernesto and Ricardo was the straw for me. Esperanza should get rid of both of them. How good Ricardo know Esperanza (or know he can make the stupid puppy face and manipulate her) to say that SHE HATES ERNESTO and LOVES HIM? I don't think she hates Ernesto, just don't want anything to do with him. And regarding to the love she feels for Ricardo is obvious, she almost died (having a gun pointed at you and being shot should be terrifying) and now she looks very happy chatting with him all day.

Ya chole con su virgen de la paz!

Wasn't that Mr Wellbanks doubling as the minuteman that got killed?

Viviana is scared of the ''patas de gallo'' and Erasmo is happy with the 2 he has, LOL

So, what is Ricardo doing exactly to catch the sombra right now? I don't see him actively pursuing him, just chatting all day with Esperanza, if he doesnt get results because he does nothing, then he will be very upset! He should be the example of hard work for his team!

Sorry, but I had to let it out before tonight, when I will be very, very upset again!

I won't be eating avocado tonight.

I just thought that maybe this ''I rescue you because I am a superagent and I love you'' is supposed to make Esperanza forget those 20 years, like those guys who plot with a third one to go and pretend to do something to the woman he's after so he can go and ''save her'' because that way she will immediately trust him and be eternally grateful. Again, one thing cancels the other. Se baja el cero y no contiene. Esperanza is not that stupid. Wait! SHE IS!!

Diana, thank you for your always kind comments.

I so agree this was such an interesting episode with so much information and action on the various plot lines. It was good seeing some humor in the character of Mario. Julio Mannino the actor is so good at comedy and I have been missing that until now.

As for Adrián, I felt so sorry for him having to deal with his mother in all of her pain and then as his "reward" having to find out he was an accident. I am not a fan of the PSA aspects in these novelas but this time the teenage alcoholism seems well integrated into the plot and not just some goofy add on. As for Viviana, she is so pathetic and Ernesto was particularly cruel.

Hope it is another good one tonight!

Pablo, my BIG complaint about last night is that Ricardo did not finish the story because it was more important to have coffee with Pato??. I also agree that we need to know about WHY he was going north in the first place. Also there is something wrong with the time line or he must have been in custody a loooooooooooong time for him to call Esperanza and get Pedro's dad on the phone. Or did Esperanza hook up with Oedro!s dad as soon as Ricardo left town. Missing time! Alien abduction?

Great Jarifa. I thank you for the retelling making palatable a TN that stinks.

Pablo, you and I are in total agreement.

What does any of what Dicky Ricky told last night have to do with not contacting Esperanza for 20 years? Just more from a self absorbed braggart who reconnected with an adoring fan. The set up is nearly complete to blame it all on Esperanza. How dare she sleep with other men as he suffered a hell of his own making.

I loved it when Erasmo struck at the real butthurt Ricky suffers. Esperanza slept with other men and not him.

Pedro isn't a bad kid and I kinda felt sorry for him but I don't have a problem with how Kristel handled Pedro's declaration. Pedro fully expected reciprocity. She wanted a friendship and he didn't. He was in to passively aggressively woo her. It is not her fault he misrepresented his intention.

Tofie, so glad I could make this more palatable! You are so right that "sex with Esperanza" is the bottom line with both Ernesto and Ricardo.

tofie, I'm a bit confused.

I thought we had been led to believe that Kristel had a change of heart and actually WAS falling for Pedro? Did I misinterpret her "Moondoggie" adoring looks at him?

If he sensed a shifting in her emotions (which I thought too), I can't blame him for declaring how he felt. Now at least he knows how she feels. I think. Maybe? Because I'm not sure I know at this point myself! :)

Diana

Thanks for a great recap of an aggravating episode. I'm so irritated at Ricardo.

So, in a hideous and desperate situation, he shot someone and was arrested. Okay...but WHY was he there in the first place? I always thought of crossing the border in such a dangerous way as something only the truly desperate attempt. Like, people who are worse off than Erasmo, who have family members to take care of and can't even earn enough money for food, or who are being persecuted by gangs, or...something really awful that makes the hideous and risky border crossing seem like a better option. Not dudes who have a teaching degree and no dependents and seem like they're doing okay and could get a job and set up a decent life for themselves the same way Esperanza did.

So why would Ricardo have gone that way? To prove how macho he is? An outsized sense of adventure? I'd like some compelling explanation, like he had a relative in the states who was in desperate need of assistance, or it would make more sense maybe if he was flat broke and had lots of debts and had been trying and failing for a long time to find a job.

Also also, he wasn't in the pokey for 20 years, and he could have gotten a message to Espe by some means other than his one phone call. Like if he had a public defender, that lawyer could have contacted her, or a cellmate's visitors could have passed along a message. He was just too self-absorbed to care about letting his fiancee know what was happening.

Also also also, whether she loves Ernesto has nothing to do with loving Ric or not. She could love both, or neither. I'm in the "neither" camp. It isn't a teeter totter, where if she loves one less she must love the other more. One up, one down, always balances out.

So GET OVER YOURSELF, RIC. If I were her, I would have gone straight to sleep after that ordeal instead of sitting around while he made puppy dog eyes.

Usually I think it's a very bad idea for kids to find out they were unwanted, but since Ernesto is always so horrible to Adrian, I think it's just as well that he now knows why so he can start talking to the therapist about it and figure out how to cope.

Julia, you are probably right that Adrián knowing the truth about his birth will serve him better. Just too bad he had to find out from hiis totally inept mother. Looks like he has had to raise himself with help from Luca.

Jarifa, splended recap. Viviana needs some serious counciling. Why would a sane mother (shes not)tell her child that is already In trouble from being abused by his poor excuse of a father that he only married her cause she was pregnant with him? That poor kid has been kicked around from birth and his only Ally is his brother Luca, whose adopted. I'd like to hear from ernesto why he hates adrian so much.

Tracy is a nutjob. What was he thinking. Or thinkin with? When he married her? Shes a mean heffa, and she's just horrible to those kids. Shes the Type to leave them home alone,"they'll be fine. They're old enough". The woman is a flake.
Who is LaSombra? It could Be ernny, or viviana, or that uptight princible. I guess the clown could be anyone. That mask reminds me of that one on "SREAM". Really creepy whoever he is. Ok, thats all for me. For now.

Thanks again Jarifa.
