Sueno de Amor, #23 Friday, 04/08/16 Too disturbing for words

Good morning everyone. I hope you all enjoy your weekend. I sure know I started mine on the wrong foot, after having watched this very disturbing episode. I won't get into too much detail when it comes to most of the show, because, honestly, it wasn't very interesting, but there were a couple of scenes that left me speechless (especially one in particular).
More on that later.

For now, we start with Ric arriving at Esperanza’s house for the tenth time that day to tell her that Tracy is going to take the kids and go to LA. Slow motion sadness all around.
He reminds Esperanza and the viewers all the suffering he’s had to endure in his life : the desert, jail, war, training to become an incompetent SuperSpy and a lousy boss. But nothing prepared him for the pain of losing his children. He will go to LA and appeal the temporary custody sentence. Tracy is using the children, which is too low even for her.
Espe encourages him to fight for the most valuable thing in his life : his biceps children’s happiness. They get touchy with one another and glance longingly, but this is as far as they go… for now.

Mario and Felicia are still having coffee, when he says that he has to leave. He is so clumsy in his infatuation, that he is barely able to stumble outside. Felicia loves what she’s seeing.
Until I get an explanation about her bitchiness with Pato a while ago, I won’t be able to get behind this couple.

Silvana is in hysterics, in the middle of the street, since she’s not only losing her house, but her furniture, too. And it’s all Mario’s fault, for not paying the credit cards bills. Where is the guy anyway ?
There he comes, shocked to find out about their new situation. Salma shows him the legal documents and he realizes just how much money Silvana has been spending on useless items, like 100 too many purses and God knows what else. Salma is worried for her social status more than anything else and, OMG, she has just lost her phone plan, too.
Maybe she should ask Estrella where she gets her smartphone for the starved plan ?

Taking about the less fortunate, the girl and her younger brother are celebrating the fact that tomorrow is operation day. She calls Adrian to tell him the good news, but he is passed out drunk in his room.

Ric is preparing his trip to LA at the police HQ. Before leaving what used to be the worst job in the Universe, Triana encourages him to continue searching for La Sombra. Ric barely acknowledges her presence – at least now she’s not getting yelled at anymore.
He later buys his plane ticket and is nasty to another guy working for him – what a peach, must be a pleasure to work for such an obnoxious despot.
Ernie calls him to laugh at his expense, for losing the children. Ric warns Ernie that sooner or later he will end up all alone, with nobody by his side.
In his secret hiding place, La Sombra is training and planning to destroy Ric forever. He has a copy of the super accurate drawing that Pamela made, too.

Felix and Marguerita are out together, in one of the most ridiculous kind of dates, when they get interrupted by Silvana’s call. Wanna guess what she needs ?

Estrella and Kiko are walking home, with the two bad guys from the first episode still watching them. These two are very fishy.
At work, Erasmo is upset because he used to like Pedro, but now he should think of him as a rival, since he confessed that he likes Kristel. The problem is that Erasmo thinks that Kristel is confused and she might fancy pony tail, too.
Aranza, trying a new look (Italian chick of the 90’s comes to mind), comes to see Pedro and offer her support and friendship. Pedro is reluctant to accept, he doesn’t want to hurt her. No worries, she’s in this willingly, happy to suffer over unrequited love. They hug just in time for Kristel to see them, get the sads and call Erasmo.

Tracy is in the street, putting some bags in the trunk of her car. Will she take as long as Luca to actually leave the country? Esperanza walks by and Tracy doesn't miss the opportunity to start a fight. Espe reproaches her the fact that she’s using the kids to harm their father, how can she do that? Tracy actually has the decency to look a little bit conflicted, but still manages to promise Espe that she will never free Ric. He will have to choose between his kids and Esperanza.
Selena comes running into the street, saying that she doesn’t want to leave her dad. Espe urges Tracy to think about what she’s doing before it’s too late.

Kristel is driving Erasmo home. She thought that she and Pedro could still be friends, but she never had feelings for him. She is happy that Kiko’s operation is so soon. (The creepy guys are still spying. This can’t end well) They get interrupted by Marguerita' call. She has some very bad news : they need to get ready for some house guests.

Pedro is at home, remembering his confrontation with Kristel. Espe gets home with some healthy food for him. She gives him some comforting advice about his situation, too : being in love is being brave, he shouldn’t feel sorry, Kristel should for not appreciating him.
The three stooges show up – they want to show Espe their new choreography, that is supposed to attract new costumers. Lucky us, we get to actually see them dance a sort of Gangnam Style parody that is just awful. Ffw….

Adrian finally wakes up and answers to Estrella's call. She can sense that something is not OK and asks if he’s been drinking. He gets upset and hangs up on her.

Tracy asks Ric one last time to give up on the divorce if he doesn’t want to lose the kids. Too late for that, Ric is determined to go ahead with the separation.
For now he has to say goodbye to Selena and Rodrigo. They are both very sad, but Ric promises to be right behind them, in another plane. Selena is giving her mom the stink eye, while she hugs her dad and her bother. Tracy doesn’t look too happy with what she’s doing, but that doesn’t stop her from doing it., regardless
As the kids walk out, Ric breaks down crying. This scene really gives me the sads, but I’m a new mom, I get emotional all the time.

Espe and Pato are fixing dinner, talking about the Alegria family.   Espe is hurting, but she knows that Ric has to put his kids first. She talks with Kiko on the phone, promises to be at his house early the next morning, to wish him luck for his operation in person.
SuperLuca calls and after a quick hello to Espe, Pato takes the call to her room. They talk all kind of mooshy stuff – I miss you, I miss you even more, What are you wearing (wasn’t this kind of inappropriate ?)  etc, etc etc. Pato notices Luca’s new roomate. What’s his deal ?

Ric is at home, remembering happy moments spent with his kids. Then, next thing you know, he’s once again at Esperanza’s door. They get to talking about what a poor mother Tracy is. She never has any kind of patience with the kids, never helps with their homework, always screams at them, never cooks or takes care of their clothes. Has she always been like this ? Only since Rod was born. LOL
Espe raised her children alone, too, and she’s very proud of it. Single parents tend to be judged, but they need to stand proud, even if they sometimes feel like they do everything wrong and they have to put their personal life aside.
Ric proposes a pact : to always be there for their children and protect them from all. What a grand idea, Ric, you truly are a waste of a gorgeous body.

Salma dislikes the new house, while Mario doesn’t know how to thank his mother-in-law for her hospitality. Silvana is in a very bad mood, (what else is new). Salma is upset because she will have to share a room with her sister and Silvana gets pissed when she is reminded of her old room.

Ernie finds Adrian drinking and drags him to the shower, to sober him up and abuse him some more. I actually thought that he was going to start punching him, but the scene is so violent, it is giving me the chills. Adrian screams that he knows that his father never wanted or loved him. These words actually have the power to stop Ernie from turning his son into a punching bag. I’m actually starting to wonder if Adrian will make it out alive when all is said and done.
Kiko can’t sleep, he’s much too excited, he can’t wait for his operation. Estrella and Erasmo lovingly watch as the young boy dances around the room in his chair, promising to do it using his both legs soon enough (Oy !) I find the scene quite touching. Little Osorio is doing a good part, in my opinion, it's not his fault that he's his father's son.

As it turns out, Ric and Espe have spent the night talking in her living room. Now he has to go catch his plane to LA. He needs to talk to a lawyer, too, figure out a way to get his kids back. Espe promises him her support and he goes for the kiss. What he gets instead is a virgen de la paz bendicion, which is the very last thing that the guy wanted.

It’s early in the morning in the Gallo house. Kiko is still very impatient. He insists he go buy the milk they need for breakfast and Erasmo, having to take a shower, allows him to go.
And, sure enough, just outside the house are the two goons, who start playing with Kiko’s chair, pushing it around, until they make the boy fall to the ground. After that, I don’t know why, but one of them actually stabs the poor kid and the scene is so brutal and disturbing, I’m left with my mouth wide open. The two cowards run away just in time for Esperanza’s taxi to arrive. She finds Kiko on the ground, shaking, calling his siblings’ name. The way he shakes from the shock of the wound actually makes me weep a little bit (I told you, new mom and all).
This kid has some serious bad luck, his brother will never forgive himself for allowing him out of the house. When will the Gallos catch a break?

Good morning and thanks for this detailed recap.

I took some notes that I would like to share.

Ok,so the tidbit for today is that Ric went to war. He told the Naconcelos kids it was a joke, but who knows, all this guy's life is a lie...

I wonder why Mario changed from wimp to stooge #4. He used to be very different working fine and all. I never saw him doing all this clumsy stuff at work, where I guess he has to be very careful, but now is ridiculous. Makes me feel like he is becoming a victim of the writers in order to accomplish something they just thought of and wasn't in the original plan. Anyway.

When Salma says she will be ''lady pobreza'' she is referring to a title that is used in México when you are exposed being or doing something bad. Youtube is full with videos of diverse ladies and lords who have been caught redhanded being prepotent and demanding because ''you don't know who I am''. It all started with the daughter of a politician who didn't get a table in a Restaurant and made her father close it down for a couple weeks. Like her, and thanks to cellphones, more people has been exposed in their worst. Lady profeco, lady chiles, Lady Imss, are just a few...

Salma also said she felt like Pancho López, but she is going from high to low, while if I remember correctly, pancho went from low to high, from being poor to living in a mansion.

Jerónimo told Erasmo how good looking he was, compared to Pedro, that is, because they think is blonde and ''ñango'' skinny. Have you seen Pedro walking like a peacock? If he only took his shirt off all the time like Erasmo does, they would see that he can rival Erasmo in that department. It's going to sound weird, but you look very good, Erasmo, said the mustached man. And Osorio even included the appropriate sound effects.

So Aranza is the woman of the 1,001 faces? Ofrecida!

I think Kracy is actually crazy for telling the enemy all he plans. Kracy, if you want to to harm, don't let your left hand knows what the right one is doing...

Who mixed water into the oil again? Did you hear the loud noise in the kitchen?

The César Costa was another inside joke. Ric could one day be ''Papá soltero'' single father, and Costa had a show with that name and he collected sweaters. The homage to César Costa is Esperanza saying that she will give Ricardo a sweater, too... not even remotely funny. And too local.

How Esperanza and Ricardo pact benefits them? I mean, why would I make a pact with another person to promise take care of my kids? Isn't that what I should be doing anyway? Or are they promising to take care of EACH OTHERs kids? I don't get it.

No wonder this novela is doing so poor in México and they are threatening to kill off some of the characters. Hopefully NOT REECHERD!!

Awesome recap Adriana and thank you.

"Then, next thing you know, he’s once again at Esperanza’s door"

They stabbed a kid, whatever for? Ratings?

I'm glad Tracy took the kids back to LA at least away from Ricky they'll be safe.

I hate skype. I thought with Luca gone I wouldn't have to see him.

Esperanza is a fool.

I don't think it sexy when a man pouts and Cristián de la Fuente has obviously been practicing.

Pablo the pact doesn't benefit Esperanza but it does Ricky. He will dump his kids on her as he globe trots, poses, pouts and kisses himself in the mirror.

Adriana, thank you for your excellent and sensitive recap.

First the positive. "...training to become an incompetent SuperSpy and a lousy boss", "Maybe she should ask Estrella where she gets her smartphone for the starved plan ?" and "Ric, you truly are a waste of a gorgeous body" were among my favorites.

On the few lighter notes there were: "Felicia loves what she’s seeing" (very cute) and "The problem is that Erasmo thinks that Kristel is confused and she might fancy pony tail, too". Thank you!! I had been viewing Pedro's as a bun but as of late, it is a full fledged "man tail". Sigh. Please someone, get a scissors and put that hair appendage out of its misery. And ours.

May I make a confession? I thoroughly enjoyed the dance scene and thought it was fun. I like silly, what can I say ;)

Now, the negatives. I missed only a few moments of this (right after Ernesto found Adrian) and mercifully, I did not see the ensuring brutality. Thank you for describing what happened in such a caring fashion. There are moments when Ernesto seems a candidate for redemption (his smile after Pato called him father) and others where he leaps into the fires of hell (his cruelty with Adrian last night inn addition to almost every interaction he's had with him).

It was obvious the thugs were going to mess with Kiko but the screwdriver stabbing had me covering my mouth and yelling "no"! And yes his pain seemed all too real. tofie, you asked the question perfectly "They stabbed a kid, whatever for?". I can't even process this. I am a huge fan of the actor - he has been stellar.

The night was too heavily burdened with atrocities. In order to atone, Kiko must of course survive and be able to walk again. At this point, I eagerly welcome and hope for his dancing. And soon.

Thank you again Adriana!

Diana

Adriana, Thank you. My heart breaks for Adrian. I have a real soft spot for him. Hope he comes out on top of all the abuse and his loveless home life. Kiko is also a tug at the heart every time I see him.

Reechard, take care of your kids. You lived with out Espe for 20 years, get your children raised, then pursue the "love of your life". She will still be there.

Thank you, Adriana, for an excellent recap.

The stabbing of Kiko was not surprising to me. In PEAM there was a mother who slapped and terrorized her own daughter. In MCET there was a club owner/mob boss who threatened his employees and ended up kidnapping one and brutally beating him. These episodes of extreme/unsavory violence in relationship to a "dramedy" type of show seems to be an Osorio calling card since the other telenovelas were also his productions.

Diana, I agree with you and like the character of Kiko and will welcome young Osorio and his dancing. I got a kick out of young Osorio crowing like a Gallo with his "quiquiriquí".

Then, of course, there were Félix and Margarita with her "Don't you want 'Amor real' like on tv". and "yes, because 'Mi corazón es tuyo'."
Just silly but better than a kid in a wheel chair being dumped and stabbed and another having drunk himself into oblivion.

On we go!!!

I apologize on Prieto Osorio's behalf that this show is a hot mess and worst of all Cristian is a hot mess here too.

Let's look on the bright side, a REAL AND GOOD show starts Monday (Amor de Barrio.) There's so much positive to say about it and so little time. I strongly recommend it and none should let this slip through their fingers. Follow it on the El Cohete blog if you may! No one will regret it.

I wonder how long this will end up being.

Thanks, Adriana!

I think the kids will be better off away from Ricardo; he endangers everyone around him. Not that Kracy is suddenly going to turn into a great mom. Don't these children have a grandparent or an auntie or someone like that who could take them in? Or maybe Kracy could take them with her to someplace in Africa. Maybe she's a better person when she's among gorillas. Although being around Ric would contraindicate that.

So shrill control freak Principal Shrew kept such a poor eye on the finances that they got thrown out of their home?! Or did she really believe that Mario would fix it miraculously if she just shrieked at him enough?

Not liking the violence. What do a couple street thugs even gain from stabbing a boy in a wheelchair? It's not like he had more than a couple pesos in milk money for them to steal, or like he was a fellow thug in their debt. They stab for no reason? May they gradually lose all their limbs to gangrene while cleaning toilets with their tongues in the grimmest and grimiest prison available.

I keep checking in on this novela, hoping that it's going to get better. Of course I have to do my checking online and not a lot of people are posting the episodes so I really appreciate all of you recappers!!

I cant believe they stabbed Kiko. Like honestly I really cant believe it. This made me come out of the shadows to write a comment just to repeat that I CANT BELIEVE they'd stab a child in a wheelchair. He's disabled for christs sake. Who'd do such a thing? Why is this needed?

I'm glad they're showing violence because violence happens but this.. this just seems a bit too unrealistic. If its realistic I'm okay with it, if it helps along with the story I'm also okay with it but .. I don't see how this helps at all.

Really feel for the kid.

Also love Adrian! I'm really rooting for him and hope he gets out of that shady family. He deserves a lot better than someone like Ernesto. I can't imagine what kind of an impact this will have on his future wife. Lots of therapy is definitely needed. Secretly hoping he gets a gay storyline but thats highly unlikely + this kid's been through enough. Imagine if he'd come out to his family.. yikes.

Oh and the reason I even started this show is Osvaldo de Leon. He's such a hunk in this and I couldn't help but fall in love when I first saw him in La Malquerida. Guess I should call him my telenovio, no?

Future life*
A gay storyline and a wife really doesn't up. Oops!

Adriana Noel, very good recap, and heartening. I understand your hormones are all over the place new mom and all. Congrats by the way. Just watching him stab that crippled boy with a filthy rusty icepick is very disturbing. It takes a
Very sick twisted dead person inside to do that. And leave him there to bleed out. Hormones or not thats just cold no blooded.( thats not a typo). Theres no life in this person.

That woman silvana, she is a cold b*tch. And she doesn't even deserve that title. And what is with her whimp of a husband. She hasn't only whipped him she has de-frocked him. He needs to stand up to that monster, be a man and
Respect himself enough not to allow himself to be a whipped doormat. How in blazzes did he fall for this horrible woman. And I wont even mention love with this woman.

And rickky, he needs to get his act together. Hes got espy on the brain. Forget her and do his, job, then work on gettin his cubs back from his airhead wife, or poor excuse for a wife.

Ok thats it for now. Thanks Adriana.
