TELEMUNDO Y MÁS (#2): ¿Quién es Quién?, Eva la Trailera, El Señor de los Cielos #4, and Secretos: Week of April 11, 2016
Labels: cielos, eva-la-t, quien, secretos, senor4, telemundo
Pablo and Eva rush from Pablo’s house to the hospital.
Armando comes home drunk and tells Marlene he curses the hour he ever got mixed up with her.
Pablo and Eva find out that Pancho died at the scene of the accident. One by one the rest of the cast finds out about the accident.
Betty tries out her high horse act on a street person who pulls a knife on her.
Bobby is shocked by the accident, saying he should have driven them. Pablo tells him Pancho died. He sobs. [I’m crying too.] He goes to Soraya’s bedside and wonders why it took him so long to let her into his heart.
The Monteverdes, masters of hypocrisy, head to the hospital after hearing that Bobby isn’t home and probably knows about the accident.
Marlene lays on some nasty soliloquies in the room with the passed out Armando. She’s got a plan.
JJ tells Pablo what Marisol told him, about Betty la Callejera. He leaves to go find her but doesn’t tell Eva where he’s going. Uh oh! When will he ever learn? We see some thugs steal Betty’s suitcase.
Camila is released but the rotten Rebeca appears to set a trap for Virginia, grabbing her book so that she pulls that little knife. A guard appears to be in on it, and Virginia is off to solitary. [And there goes her good behavior release.]
La Alacrana tells Armando they’re getting married. When he basically says “When pigs fly” she says she’ll go to the police if he doesn’t. She’ll confess everything but say he forced her and Andy into it. He calls her bluff once, but doesn’t quite have the cojones and runs after her, catching up with her at the police station and agreeing to marry her.
Betty is found. One night on the street and she appears to be on the verge of pneumonia [please!]. She’s nasty to both Pablo and Marisol, but they get her to go with them.
Robert is furious that Soraya lived and is calling Andy to finish the job.
Marlene tells Armando she has documentation of all his crimes, tape recordings, etc. Having won, she’s trying for a seduction, wanting to go to a hotel. He says he has a headache! When she blows up, he tells her she got her marriage, what else does she want? She says she’s not putting up with his crap. She’s not Eva Soler. Armando: “Sadly, I realized this too late.”
While she’s burbling on about the ceremony, Fajardo comes to question them, separately, about the new open case into the murder of Sofía Soler.
ah, thanks so much novelera!
so generous of you.
hmm, let me see if I can add a few things,
Pablo watching the Monteverde play at the hospital says this looks suspicious, we should look into the accident, (that is if Betty doesn't keep distracting him)
It did look like Marlene was bluffing, when she got to the police station she was holding back, waiting for Armando to catch up.
ok so Bobby was taken away to identify some of Pancho's things just after Robert and Cinthia left, and I am hoping they leave the same way, because as soon as the Monteverdes are around the corner they ditch the wheelchair and the act.
Camila is so different than the other girls, I wonder which way she will go,
and I worry about Virginia, especially since Martin isn't pursuing her ex fake husband.
That was terrific, thanks novelera. "Betty tries out her high horse act on a street person who pulls a knife on her." I confess I had a very satisfying feeling of schadenfreude watching Betty out of her element. What on earth could have happened in her life to turn her into such a despicable person? At least with Marlene we realize she's out to regain what she lost and feels (however irrationally) is her due.
Armando can't win; he's outmaneuvered. I haven't an ounce of sympathy for him, but still hate to see him manipulated by Marlene.
Thanks very much, novelera, for this excellent recap, succinct but covering all the bases and with interesting asides and word choice. I especially liked Marlene's "burbling on about the ceremony."
It does seem as if Pancho is really dead, though there's a part of me that still holds out some hope that it was a good samaritan whose corpse was found. Though even as I write that, I realize how silly it is. Even if Pancho had somehow been pulled from the car, he certainly was in no shape to go very far, so he would surely have been found by the first responders.
I was very pleased that Bobby didn't give in to Cinthia's professions of love. She may well love him in her own selfish way, and she certainly cares for him more than Robert does, but what she and Robert have done is unforgiveable. I was happy to see that Pablo's suspicions were aroused by them at the hospital, though of course his concern for la perra Betty pushed those suspicions to the back burner.
I can't believe Pablo ran off to find Betty without telling Eva. I suspect Eva would have understood, had he told her, if only because of the baby. Since I'm not nearly as nice as Eva, I kept hoping that something dreadful would happen to Betty on the street. And I'm still hoping.
I'm glad they're already re-opening the matter of Sofia's death, and that Fajardo wants to question Marlene and Armando separately. I doubt that he'll get anything from Marlene--she continually produces convincing accounts on the spur of the moment. Armando, however, may either crack or at least inadvertently say something useful. ¡Ojalá!
Poor Virginia. She does seem to have fallen into Rebeca's trap. It will be interesting to see whether the ever-resourceful Martin can find a way to deal with this.
Thanks, Deb, for filling in what I didn't describe. I had book club last night, but it didn't run that late so I had some extra time, but didn't feel like a full recap.
Yes, Pablo is suspicious of the accident, a good sign. And Fajardo was very suspiciously watching the Marlene and Armando drama at the police station. He even mentioned something to her about being there earlier. But she made up a smooth lie, don't remember what it was.
I suppose they're working toward another clichéd breakup between Eva and Pablo over his not telling her the truth about Betty. Gah! I do love telenovelas, but I'd love to see one where the protagonists were in love and close the whole way.
If no one else is planning to put up a recap for tonight's episode, I'll try to put together a mini-recap.
martes?
wow, thanks so much Juanita!
interesting that Fajardo asked Armando about Sofia "was she afraid of you...or of Marlene Palacios?" when in fact she went to Mon-Sol to see Armando, the last person she thought she could trust, and I keep waiting for the part where Armando gave Evencio the booze that night.
I don't think I'll ever get used to the 'get 'em in the ground while they're still warm' funerals in novelas, the police haven't even released the body yet, but I would stall anyway in hopes Soraya recovers soon, and has the last say.
so strange Pancho's house is now filled with ex-cons, and interesting how Bobby and Estaban have bonded.
"estúpido Pablo" is right, lets take a poll, is there any one in the world that thinks parking Betty in Pablo's bed is a good idea.
poor Soraya, ah yes the induced coma, any chance on Betty getting one?
Fajardo asked Andy at the trial under oath who his hospital friend was, and now again, what?
Armando, and all I can think about is how Marlene's husband ended up, will Armando be so lucky, and we get these glimpses of a good guy, will he give Eva custody of Fabiola, or will he flip again and just use her to get Eva to bend.
Camila worries me, it's like there is a cloud of doom following her around, I'd like to get Soraya's take on her.
and poor Virginia in solitary.
Pablo's house must have a back door because I think Evencio got out of there first when Eva arrived. I like this guy.
Fajardo has come to Mon-Sol to question Armando and Marlene about the death of Sofia Soler. He starts with Armando. He asks Armando why he spent that night drinking with some friends he rarely sees and playing cards, when he usually spends his free time with women. Moreover, it's interesting that he chose the very night when he might need an alibi. He tells Armando that Sofia was afraid in the days leading up to her death, and he asks, was she afraid of you...or of Marlene Palacios? Fajardo continues to question Armando and catches him in a discrepancy: at the trial, Armando claimed that Eva was madly in love with him and for that reason wouldn't give him a divorce. Now, however, Armando says that Eva didn't love him.
Some official gives Bobby Pancho's identification card and a ring. Bobby confirms that the ring is his father's. He then asks the official whether he can see his father. The man tells Bobby that Pancho's body was very badly burned. However, if I understood this correctly, the would be turned over to Bobby once all the forensic tests were completed. (?) Bobby looks at the ring and remembers Pancho's words about being happy and proud that Bobby is his son. Adri joins Bobby. He talks about how awful it is that just as he was beginning to love Pancho, he was taken from him. Adri tells him that he should always wear his father's ring; his father was a wonderful man, and Bobby is like his father.
Robert berates Cinthia for spending too much money. She admits that she's anticipating the money from the inheritance. She also says she'll be glad when this is over, because all this business of being a mother is exhausting (agotador).
A coughing Betty and an estúpido Pablo arrive at Pablo's house. Betty says how lovely it will be to be together in Pablo's bed. Pablo makes it clear that she's in his house, but they are not going to be together in his bed. There are limits she has to observe. This makes her cough more, and she tells him she feels ill. He takes her temperature and calls the doctor to find out how to lower the fever and get rid of the cough. Those of us watching the novela can answer this question without having any medical training: when Pablo is friendly to Betty, she's fine; when things don't go as she wants them to, her cough returns. The doctor prescribes some medicine, and Pablo sends JJ to get it. JJ tells him to look out (Aguas), Betty is going to ruin your life.
Robert goes to see Pancho's lawyer. He wants to know what Bobby will inherit as Pancho's only heir. The lawyer corrects him: he's not the only heir, there's also Soraya. Robert then asks when will Bobby get his inheritance. The lawyer asks why Bobby isn't here asking these questions. He tells Robert that Bobby is not a minor, he doesn't need someone to represent him. The lawyer refuses to give any information to Robert.
At the hospital, the doctor tells Bobby and the others that Soraya's condition is extremely grave. They have induced a coma to reduce the inflammation, but the damage is enormous, and her chances of survival are poor. And if she does survive, there may well be after-effects (secuelas). He suggests that they pray for her.
Pablo tells JJ that Eva will surely understand about Betty's being there. JJ proposes an experiment, to see how other people respond. Just then Martin and Diego enter the room. A few seconds later, in prances Betty with no cough. Diego turns away from her, and Martin looks dismayed. "Why is she wearing my father's clothes?" asks Diego. Betty responds, "Thanks to your father, I was out in the street and had very few clothes."
Outside the house, Martin asks Pablo what Betty is doing there. Pablo tries to justify his bringing her to his house--she's pregnant with his child, she's ill, she has nowhere to go, and it's his fault (!). Martin replies "I'll give you one reason that she shouldn't be here: Eva Soler." He advises Pablo to tell Eva right away and hope that she understands, though he doubts that she will.
Alone with Betty, Diego asks her how long she'll be staying. Betty says she doesn't know, but hopefully forever. No, that can't be, exclaims Diego, because we have only a few rooms and Fabiola and her mother are coming to live here. A very annoyed Betty tells Diego that Eva and Fabiola will never live here.
Fajardo questions Marlene about her relationship with Eva and with Armando. She breaks off the questioning by saying she has some business that needs her attention, and could they please continue this questioning at another time. Fajardo agrees and asks her to send in Andy. Fajardo again asks Andy for the name of the sick friend he was visiting at the hospital. Andy refuses to give him the name, claiming that the friend became sick in a rather shady way, and if Andy named him, it might jeopardize the friend's marriage. Fajardo continues to press Andy, and Andy finally says that he won't answer any more questions unless his lawyer is present. Fajardo tells him he thinks that would be a good idea, and that the questioning will continue at the police station.
Pablo asks Fajardo about the results of his questioning. Fajardo says that his instinct tells him that they're guilty, but so far there's no proof.
Armando comes to the hospital to find Eva. He tells her that he is going to marry Marlene. Eva is incredulous. "But you don't love her." Armando is hoping that Eva will be jealous. He then proposes that Eva, he, and their daughters go away together and start over. "Are you crazy?" asks Eva. "After all you've done to hurt me?" Armando then grabs her and kisses her very forcefully. Eva pulls away and slaps him. "I can't live without you," he says.
Armando then goes to see Fabiola. He tells her he's said. She says she's sad, too; she misses her mother. "I miss her too," says Armando. He then tells Fabi that soon she may be back with her mother.
Camila meets Bobby at the Mogollones' house. She's attracted to him. He has come to the house to find his father's papers. A short time later, as he's going through a pile of papers trying to locate the ones he needs, Camila comes into the room and suggests that four eyes looking are better than two. Sure enough, she finds the key documents. Bobby thanks her, takes the papers, and leaves. I was surprised to see that he left all the other papers lying in a pile on the couch. Camila glanced in that direction, and I expected that she might look through them, but she didn't. At least not yet.
Eva comes to Pablo's house looking for him. Pablo isn't there, JJ leaves almost at once, and Martin tries to get Eva to accompany him (Martin) to his office. She says she'd rather stay, wait for Pablo, and talk to Diego. Martin leaves, and Eva asks Diego why everyone is acting so strange. It's because of ella, he says. Whereupon Betty (without a cough) makes a triumphant entrance and smugly tells Eva "I was sleeping in Pablo's room and putting on my clothes. Do you have a problem with that?" End of episode.
NOTE: Just a reminder that starting this Monday, Eva will air an hour earlier, at 8 pm EDT, Quién moves to 1 pm, and La Esclava Blanca begins in the 9 pm time slot.
What? Wasn't yesterday Tuesday? :-) I have this program that will put the header on if I write a four-character code, and I used it last night without thinking that MARTES was part of what would be substituted. Sometimes technology is not my friend. I've now put up a corrected copy. Thanks very much, deb, for catching that and for your wonderful comments.
I too have an uneasy feeling about Camila. Most of the ex-cons at Pancho's house are, like Pancho, terrific people, but I'm not yet so sure about Camila.
I was glad that Fajardo asked Andy again for the name of the friend he was visiting at the hospital. When Fajardo asked him at the trial, the prosecutor objected, and I don't think they ever came back to that question. Andy's non-answer could be compelling evidence that he was there for no good.
Though I don't get up and shake the TV every time Betty appears, I dislike her almost as much as she dislikes Eva. I'd like a more permanent solution for her than a coma. (Hmmm, this novela keeps forcing me to reveal what a not-nice person I am. Sigh.)
Juanita: Your entire paragraph about Betty's cough of convenience had me cracking up. And of course, one of the first Spanish words I ever learned (don't ask me how) was jarabe, syrup. As in jarabe para la tos.
Phew, I was gratified to learn that Bobby is no longer a minor. It had me worried when Robert was pressing for the inheritance. So that episode with his toasting with water must have had to do with getting over his recent bender with Estéban.
Thanks again for the reminder about schedule change on Monday.
Ah yes, LXV, jarabe. I recognized the word when I was watching the broadcast, but I couldn't remember it when I was writing the recap. (Speaking of words one learns early on, one of the first I learned was cerveza :-). For years, I kept confusing it with cerebro, and even now, when I said that I hadn't been able to remember the word the doctor used last night, I started to write "my cerveza doesn't work so well any more." :-)
I too was much relieved when the lawyer pointed out to Robert that Bobby was no longer a minor. What counts as being of age these days? I thought it was 21, but I doubt that Bobby is that old, so I guess it must be 18. Maybe that's why I haven't been carded in a while. :-)
Thanks a million, Juanita! No time to either read your recap or comment. I'm off to San Francisco for the day. We're going to the Goat Festival! Someone else's idea. But I think there will be goat cheese!
Novelera, estoy muy celosa. My son and his family live in San Francisco, and I love goat cheese. Hope you had a great time.
Belated thanks for the fine recap, Juanita. You had a more interesting explanation for the wrong day on the recap than I did. Mine was just inexplicable.
Actually, we didn't make it to the Goat Festival. The whole point of the visit was to meet the widow of an old boyfriend of my friend's. They encountered each other on Facebook. The widow lives in Oregon and was visiting San Francisco for a week with another friend. The house where she's staying is amazing. It's in North Beach and has a stunning view of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay. It was a warm day, in the high 70s, crystal clear. The person who lives in this amazing house used to run an art gallery, and her house is simply a work of art itself. She has paintings, amazing framed black & white photographs and sculptures everywhere. Five of us went to Original Joe's for lunch and had terrific food and great conversation. I actually don't have worries about disclosing stuff about myself. I live in Palo Alto, so it's an easy drive to SF to visit my oldest friend who lives there and to attend opera, theater, etc.
So, digression finished. I find it interesting what they're doing with the character of Armando. I'm pretty sure he's going to return custody of Fabiola to Eva. It actually made me happy to see Fabi not afraid of her father and calling him malo. His character is not all bad.
I sincerely hope the nueva etapa being promised by Telemundo doesn't result in a long separation for Eva and Pablo. It was incredibly dumb of him to take her in. Sure he doesn't have money to put her in an apartment, but surely a cheap motel for a couple of days would have sufficed.
I loved Fajardo's pointed questioning of Marlene, Armando and AA. He's going to keep probing.
What's up with the villain women torturing kid with disabilities? Betty did it in Friday's show with Diego, hammering away at him that Eva was never going to live there. I hope Diego tells his father about this right away. But the damage may have been done by Betty's being there at all.
Robert is a bullying idiot. I also think that 18 must be considered of age in the novela. Bobby can't be 21. He hasn't even started college. Pancho's lawyer was more than capable of sending Robert off with a flea in his ear.
"but surely a cheap motel for a couple of days would have sufficed" ...and sent a clear message to Betty. But, now that I think of it, Eva might even misconstrue that. For a strong character, they've given her some flaws, irrational jealousy being one, pig-headed stubbornness being another.
