Sueño de amor #46 Wednesday 5/11/16

So, here we go with a little bit of this and a little bit of that.

Pato is on the street and Anastasia approaches her. They end up on a bus where Anastasia wants Pato to get a message to Ernesto for her. She needs his help because she has no money: nothing. So far he has refused to give her anything. Anastasia makes sure that Pato sees a  gun in her handbag. Maybe Ernesto needs someone he loves to be in danger . . . Anastasia sure hopes that Patricia gives Ernesto the message. After getting off the bus, Anastasia pretends to shoot Pato through the bus window with her finger. Pato is left creeped out and alone on the bus.

At the hospital, the doctor is filling in Viviana and Luca about the severity of Adrián's problem. Luca and the doctor think that Adrián needs to go inpatient at a rehab center. Viviana is not too sure. Later at home, Ernesto agrees Adrián needs to be admitted to the rehab center. Adrián sees it as if they are throwing him away. Luca and Ernesto do their best to talk him into it. Adrián hysterical makes all sort of promises not to drink. Viviana is afraid they will mistreat Adrián and promises to take care of him rather than send him off to that terrible place. Ernesto sees Vivana as just stupid but then he has to stay quiet because it is all his fault anyway. Luca tries to convince Viviana and Adrián that Adrián's promises mean absolutely nothing. Seems to be enough blame to spread around.

There is more flirting between Margarita and Félix.

Salma tells Mario she is never ever going back to school.

Ricardo is on the phone with Esperanza. He tells Esperanza that they all will have 24 hour protection; that things are the same with La Sombra and La Sombra's mother granny Josefa says that La Sombra has been watching her and Homero and Virgilio. In the middle of the conversation, Esperanza is suddenly doubled over in pain and can barely talk. She crashes into a group of glasses that fall and break. Ricardo can tell that something is wrong and reminds her of her cancer scare. She pretends it is nothing medical but that she had just dropped a pitcher. Looks like the cancer plot line could be making a comeback. :( (I hate medical/hospital plots) (I probably have said it before but I am saying it again).

Pedro is talkng to Ara about what happened to her and clarifying it was not her fault when Pato arrives to see Ara and invites her to stay with them at the Guerrero house.

At Margarita's house, Mario asks Kristel how things are going. Erasmo will not talk to her. They both agree ahe has ended up like the legendary "perro con dos tortas". She ends up crying to Salma in their room.

Pedro and Pato bring Ara home with them. Esperanza offers her a place to stay and a hug.

Pato tells Esperanza about the birthday party. Ernesto is trying to make up for his 17 year absence. Esperanza is not too happy. Pato wants Esperanza to approve. Pato wants to give him a second chance and has not Esperanza always said that everybody deserves a second chance? Esperanza feels like Ernesto is trying to buy Pato's love. Pato knows that and wants to give him a chance. Esperanza ends up giving in since it is important for Pato.

At the school, Silvana is telling her secretary to get her her money like now. The secretary is reminding her that the money belongs to the school El Instituto Palacios. (Embezzlement, any one?) That conversation is interrupted by Félix who needs to talk to Silvana. Napoleón told him about her spending the night at the school. That is against the rules. She accuses Napoleón of gossiping but Félix has film of her vandalizing the vending machine. Later in another scene the same secretary comes to Silvana with a bad feeling about Silvana asking her for cash from the cash box for no reason and about certain bills that Silvana had signed. She knows Silvana is stealing from the school. It is illegal. Silvana says everybody does it. The Palacios have a lot of money. Silvana suggests giving her a commission for staying quiet but if she doesn't Silvana will kill her.

Also at school, Pedro gets the cold shoulder from Kristel because he was with Ara. He tells her the only thing she needs to know is that he loves her. She is not impressed. Pato passes on by and tells Pedro she is in between a rock and a hard place because she wants to invite Kristel and Ara to her party.

It looks like Ernesto has an ulterior motive for Pato's birthday party. He and Tracy are constructing some sort of plan to wreak havoc at the birthday party. Tracy is all excited in more ways than one. She loves logistics. Ernesto reminds her that the plan has to be perfect.

At the school, Ricardo has found a blind spot in the hall where no camera can see them so he can kiss Esperanza. Esperanza feels like she has to take off the engagement ring at school. They talk about the wedding. The kids led by Pámela play a trick on Ricardo with squirting pen.

Kiko's family has bad news. They are at the doctor's office where the doctor is talking about the surgery Kiko needs to walk. He can be operated on but the surgery is very expensive ($10,000 US/ $200,000 pesos MEX) and they do not have access to the charity money they had before. It was used for emergency care of another child. Erasmo promises to get the money. Kiko is disppointed and in tears. The surgery costs as much as a car. He might as well accept he never will walk again. (Sure hope that Erasmo doesn't do anything illegal and stupid to get the money).

Pato tells Luca about Anastasia threatening her. Later she tells her mother. In the mean time Luca calls Anastasia and tells her to come to his office because they need to talk.

Before going with Ricardo to her other school (Vasconcelos) to teach, Pámela asks Esperanza if she has ever seen Âgata the ghost. Very strange . .

Pato tells Ara that she will not like what she has to tell her but she is inviting Kristel to her birthday party. Ara is not happy.

On the street, La Sombra physically grabs Homero and Virgilio's grandma Josefa (his mother) off the street. When he has her in his car he asks her what Ricardo is planning. She insists she does not know. They keep driving around. She asks if he would kill his own mother and talks about how his children are embarrassed of him being a robber, a murderer. He tells her he would rather be dead than in jail. She sees La Sombra's face but we never do.

Ricardo gets a phone call about Josefa being picked up off the street. They are following the vehicle she is supposedly in. They do not know if La Sombra is in it. Ricardo tells Félix he has to leave school: it is an emergency; a matter of life and death. Félix is left with the group of mischievous kids.

Adrián is back at school and runs into Margarita. He tells her that Luca and Ernesto want to hospitalize him in a terrible place. Margarita thinks it would be good for him to go and get that professional help being offered to him. Adrián does not agree. Estrella fills Margarita in about the high price of Kiko's operation.

Mario comes on by to see Viviana. She needs his advice. She is not sure if she should have Adrián hospitalized. Mario thinks she would be making a mistake not giving her son the most help he needs. Sometimes love and good intentions are not enough. Sometimes their children need professional help.

Tracy and Ernesto continue with their scheming. The restaurant will be closed for his daughter's birthday party. They have a map and talk about entrances, exits, death.

Luca is not happy with Anastasia when she arrives at his office.

Ricardo meets with Josefa. He gives her a tracking chip to drop in La Sombra's car next time he takes her for a ride.

Thanks!

I also noticed that the bee stung Félix, but both Ernesto and Ricardo had something red on their lower lips...

This was pretty much a bummer of an episode especially with Esperanza's recurrent "pain." Things are not looking too good for the inhabitants of "suéñolandia" in only the first 46 episodes.

Good one, Pablo. Thanks.

Loved the recap Jarifa. Your thoughtful comments gave us much to savor and ponder. I appreciate your keen powers of observation and insight.

“Kiko is disppointed and in tears. The surgery costs as much as a car. He might as well accept he never will walk again”. That was just terrible to watch. Erasmo seemed to be in as much pain as Kiko. I agree Jarifa and hope Erasmo doesn’t do anything foolish to get the money.

“Viviana is afraid they will mistreat Adrián and promises to take care of him rather than send him off to that terrible place”. Really Vivi? Thank heavens for the surprisingly astute Mario who murmurs “Sometimes love and good intentions are not enough. Sometimes their children need professional help”.

“Looks like the cancer plot line could be making a comeback. :( (I hate medical/hospital plots)”. Me too Jarifa! Esperanza’s pain looked excruciating. I was very upset she told Ricardo she was fine which of course she isn’t. If she doesn’t go to the doctor, I will be very upset.

There is more flirting between Margarita and Félix. I have to smilingly say this might be my favorite duo of this TN. Felix seems to actually exhibit traces of a personality when he is with the astute and kind Margarita.

Conversely, “Mario asks Kristel how things are going. Erasmo will not talk to her”. Grow up Kristel! You have both men dangling on leashes, trying to decide whom you will choose. Then you pout because Erasmo ignores you and when Pedro shows kindness to Ara. Both these men deserve better.

“Silvana suggests giving her a commission for staying quiet but if she doesn't Silvana will kill her”. Mean, greedy and now a possible murderer. How sweet.

Terrific Jarifa...

Diana

Thanks, Diana, for being the ever faithful commenter. Believe me it is appreciated. This is the least watched show I have ever recapped or commented on. These novelas usually run about 130 capítulos so I better get myself re-revved. I was so blah about last night's episode and then erased the end of my videotape by accident when I had not been watching too carefully anyway. I am ready for Marjorie De Souza to join the show. I saw her in HEFDM and liked her. I think she is playing a new character which could redirect refocus the plot into something maybe less random but then again she just might bring more odds and ends to add in. If it is a switcheroo of the Esperanza role, I will not be pleased. I didn't like it when it happened in HEFDM.

Jarifa, there is no doubt that recent episodes have left a lot to be desired.

That is why I so appreciate you, Nandicta, Adriana Noel and Pablo...It is so wonderful of all of you to keep going with this.

I know how time consuming recapping can be and it is difficult to invest so much when the storyline crumbles, as unfortunately it is doing here. Your recap was perfect, especially considering you erased the tape! Amazing.

And yes to have so few comments must be very disheartening.

I can only say how much I appreciate all of you and I know the other loyal commenters do as well.

Beside for the excellent recaps, I love the children here. I watch for Kiko, for Adrian and look forward to their physical and mental recoveries.

I like Betty and especially Julian Gil whom frankly I've never particularly cared for until this!

And last but not least Erasmo always makes me smile. And sigh.

I will not be happy either if Betty is replaced. Let's hope that doesn't happen!

Thank you again for all that you do.

Diana

Thanks, Jarifa!

I'm with you hoping Erasmo doesn't do anything stupid to get the money. He should just get a loan from Luca and pay it off in reasonable installments, which might be possible now that he's gotten a promotion. Heck, Luca should just secretly give the foundation money to pay for the surgery. He hasn't done any superhero saintly deeds recently. His halo is getting a little tarnished. That much cash is basically one date night to him, anyway...and just think how much Pato would swoon if he paid for surgeries! (But also, Luca...have you considered subsidizing medical insurance for your employees? I'm never going to believe you're such a saint when you have full-time, hard-working employees who can't pay for food and medical care.)

Maybe Ricardo gave Esperanza the fast-acting secret agent varietal of the clap. She should have asked him for test results before exploring the kama sutra (or the cama snooza in this case).

Anasty is the worst. I have no patience for capable adults who think it's everyone else's job to take care of them. Has she even tried to get a job? Surely she can find a street corner where she can drum up some cash. We know she isn't above it.

Thanks ever so much, Jarifa! You would do a better job at editing this show than the fool who is in charge of editing SdA. Your retelling seamlessly moves between scenes in a way that makes sense and captures interest. I watched the episode last night before going to bed and I don't remember it being this coherent or engaging like your recap is.

Let me get this out of the way, first: Adrián’s tantrums and victim complex are grating on my nerves! Why are Luca and his parents even taking this brat's opinion? He’s a minor and he has been screwing up royally for several months! I say ship his hiney off to rehab ASAP, whether he likes it or not! He can thank them for saving his life later! By the way, that scene is the only time I've genuinely liked Luca and wasn't making fun of him and/or rolling my eyes at him and/or counting the seconds for him to get off my screen! It's a Wednesday miracle! :D

Kiko's siblings should do their best to lift his spirit. There are many ways they can raise that money and it's only a matter of time. Even if it takes years, what matters is for him to keep studying hard and enjoying his hobbies until the time comes to have that surgery. Life is full of hardships and one has to soldier on no matter what. I know it is easier said than done but, the way I see it, if my only options are to either sink or swim, I'll always choose to keep my head above water, even if my head is stained with tears. I'll never give up and let myself drown!

Speaking of people about to drown, Principal Crazy-Eyes is playing a dangerous game that will land her in some big trouble. Not only is she skimming money from the school's petty cash box but she is also taking substantial commissions from IP's suppliers.

I'm glad Kracy's crazy gringo accent has been toned down considerably. I hope they do the same with the kids' accent as well. My understanding is that they are planning for Ernesto to come off as the hero in Pato's birthday bash by saving his daughter from a danger that he himself planted. My guess given all the hints they gave us lately is that Kracy will put on La Sombra's mask and crash the party to frighten everyone. I know that Ricardo is a lousy cop but come on! What if Kracy ends up getting shot while carrying out this dumb plan? I have a bad feeling about this.

Why is Ricardo still "undercover" at IP? Wasn’t the point of his failed mission to find La Sombra’s kids? Well, the discovery ended up smacking him in the face: One of La Sombra's kids even had a sleepover at his house and was kind enough to leave his hat behind with DNA to provide undeniable proof. Why is Ricardo still pretending to teach those poor kids at IP? Iker must've been reading my mind because he asked him the question and Ricardo said he stays 'cause he likes the job. O sea, Tricky Ricky is incapable of providing a satisfying answer to any question! Where were you for twenty years? I called your house once and someone said you weren't there... Next! :D

Thanks again, Jarifa! :)

Companies like Constructora De la Colina, have medical benefits for all their employees, and in this case, for any minor under their care. IMSS (Mexican Institute for social Security) and ISSSTE (the same for state employees), should be able to take care of all their needs. Even for people who doesn't work, IMSS have prepaid plans for them.

I think Kiko should stay like he is for as long as it takes to Erasmo to get the money legally. What difference does it make to walk today or walk tomorrow? Also, there are many charity organisations (check in the Virgen de la Paz church, they probably have one) that can take care of him too... is not the end of the world.

Thank you Diana for your kind comments and for sticking with us come rain or come shine. Betty Monroe and Julián Gil are my favorites amongst the grown-ups (Cristián de la Fuente is boring me to distraction! Who woulda thunk it?). Jarifa is right, this is the least followed and commented on TN, perhaps in the history of Caray Caray. The other show that had this kind of following, that I'm aware of anyway, was "El Clon" and its recaps were cancelled after a few weeks because only 2 or 3 people commented every night, in addition to the recappers. I stick around and do my best to provide a decent recap every time because you, Julia, Tofie and my fellow recappers deserve it. You deserve my time and effort no matter how much I dislike this show. Jarifa, Pablo and Adriana deliver excellent and entertaining recaps for the same reason, I would imagine. I'm enjoying myself because I get to pick up some Spanish along the episodes and I get to read some of the best and most hilarious recaps and comments I've ever read.

Case in point: "the cama snooza". Seriously, Julia, where do you get the inspiration for such great quips? I'm going to plagiarize all your "Julianisms" and I don't care who knows! :D

Anastasia turned out to be such a disappointment! All she does is whinge and beg for alms. B*tch, get a job! Get a job boinking the fathers of other Luca-like schmucks if you have to! Just do something useful for which you can get paid so you can stop pestering people for money!

And speaking of Silvana...

If she is taking money from the school supply companies and is not spending it, why is she still there? Because she likes the granola bars from the cheating vending machine that swallows your coins and give you nothing in return?

She should be outta there already! Being a thief is one thing but she is also stupid and deserves to get caught!

Pablo, you are absolutely right! "I think Kiko should stay like he is for as long as it takes to Erasmo to get the money legally. What difference does it make to walk today or walk tomorrow?" That's exactly my point! Kiko should enjoy himself while he waits for his operation money to be raised, through legal means of course. It might take several months or even a few years, so he'd better keep his chin up and hang on to his shiny outlook on life.

I don't know what Silvana is doing with the money she is skimming from the school's suppliers. My guess is that she still has many credit card bills to pay. Whatever her motives for stealing, she's gone about it the wrong way and she will get caught! If her absent-minded secretary noticed that the bills were bloated +100% compared to the previous years, it won't take long before Silvana is accused of embezzlement! If you're gonna do something wrong, do it right! Silvana is a very dumb thief but she is convinced she is so slick!

Pablo, do you know why a family like the Gallos wouldn't have medical insurance, then? Would they have to pay extra for it, which is money they haven't ever had? Would the social security not consider this surgery necessary? There always seem to be people in telenovelas who work yet don't have any means to pay for medical care; is it common that they wouldn't have the insurance even though they have a job?

Back when I started recapping a million years ago, this was actually about the typical number of readers and comments on a recap. The site's readership has grown a lot.

Pablo, it is so good that you can fill us in on what health insurance is like in Mexico.

Nandicta and Julia, Anastasia is now threatening Pato. Does she go to the police? Nope. Stupidity reigns supreme.

Thanks for commenting everybody! Our little patio makes this show worthwhile.

Thanks so much Jarifa and the other recappers for this novella, I haven't been following it much. Just catching up with it,but it really isn't my best telenovela plot wise. Thanks again.

It's been a while since I used those medical services myself,, but this is what I know.

When we turn 18 (males) we present ourselves for military service and we get a number in a little card.
When we start working (everybody) we are given another number for medical service. All companies MUST enroll all employees as soon as they sign their contract. If you change jobs, your boss notify the IMSS and the next time you work again, you become elegible for as long as you work. That's the law. I am sure Ernesto has everybody insured, or at least his office staff-
I don't know how much you have to pay for a major surgery, or if it's covered, but I only used my services to take my wisdom teeth out.
Many people don't trust those services because the service is bad. They disregard your ailments and usually give everybody the same medicine for everything, when they have it, because if they don't, you have to buy it somewhere else and then present them the receipt for a reimbursement and that can take forever!!

Anyway, this is sueñolandia and everything has to fit like a puzzle in order to make things the most difficult for everybody so they can stretch the non existent plot to infinity and beyond! In the real world, I am sure superEsperanza could be able to find the way to fund the surgery without having to sell your soul to the devil.

IMSS (Instituto Mexicano del Seguro social) is also known as Importa Madre Su Salud (we give a f--k about your health)

and

ISSSTE (Instituto de seguridad social al servicio del Travajador del Estado) as
Inútil Solicitar Salud, sólo tramitamos entierros (Useless asking for health, we only do burials)

Thanks, Pablo. It is always interesting seeing how things work in different places and why directly paying cash for a surgery might be preferable.,

Thanks for the explanation, Pablo! The alternate names are funny (well, probably not so funny if you're trying to get healthcare through those associations).

Maybe it doesn't cover the full cost of the surgery, and they have to pay a part? I know in the U.S., US$10,000 wouldn't come even close to the full cost of a major surgery like that, but medical stuff is supposed to be more reasonably priced elsewhere so maybe this is just telenovela drama with numbers pulled randomly out of the ether.

I think it's interesting how in telenovelas, they are always quoted a specific price for medical treatment and they have to come up with that much money exactly. Here, it's nearly impossible to pin down the cost of an involved procedure like that before the fact. All sort of things can get added to the bill, especially if there are any complications or you need to stay in the hospital longer than expected or they give you an extra tissue to blow your nose or something, plus even the cost of the basic procedure itself is...fuzzy...and varies greatly by hospital and patient.

Well, in real life there are many places where low income people can get the help they need without having to stress out like this. The son of a friend of mine needed spinal surgery and she went to Shriners, they took care of him and now is 18 and fine. She didn't pay for anything!
