Sueño de Amor (SdA) #49. Monday May 16, 2016. This Novela Was Smushed With "Porque El Amor Manda" To Give You "Sueño Del Amor Manda"... Because You're Worth It!

At a glance

-- Osorio has decided to recycle Porque El Amor Manda, because he can and because he gets his paycheck no matter what.

A closer look

Ricardo shows Esperanza the apartment he one-sidedly decided that she and her grown children should move into. He does, however, grant the little lady the privilege of choosing the furniture and the knickknacks that will fit out their new home.

Accompanied by her adoring lapdog, Pedro, Princess Confundida goes to visit her saintly mother in jail. Despite her histrionic whining, prison life isn’t treating Silvana that bad. She is impeccably coiffed and she sports her favorite fluttering falsies. All that’s missing is her signature red lippy, designer glasses and military-style black garb and she's Principal Crazy-Eyes again!

At the constructora, Viviana complains to Luca about Ernesto’s objection to her “friendship” with Mario. Luca informs her that Ernesto pulled a heroic stunt during Pato’s birthday. Viviana’s eyes bug out in disbelief.

In the reception area, Nacho informs Begoña that he decided to pull a Ricardo and cross the border illegally into the United States (irse de mojado). See you in 20 years, toots!

A mattress happens to wait for the happy couple in the master bedroom of their new apartment. Since it’s there and they’re there, they decide to inaugurate it. A few minutes later, as they lay in the afterglow of their lovemaking, they make plans about their wedding reception, the delicious Mexican buffet, the guests... They also fantasize about their new life together and the happy family they will form. I love you’s, smoocheroos and round 2 of mattress olympics.

Pato calls Luca at the office and hears Anastasia’s voice. As it turns out, the stalker bimbo is now Mario’s new assistant.

Kracy’s plan to get back at Reecherd is to get their kids to move into Ernesto’s house. Ernesto is not very happy with his new roommates but he reluctantly acquiesces to Kracy’s scheme. So the villano and the villana, who happen to be the respective exes of the protagonist couple, decide to shack up together and bring the galán’s kid(s) to live with them. Wasn’t this pretty much the middle 40 episodes of Porque El Amor Manda? My head is tingling from the refreshing originality of this original telenovela!

Red wine and amuse-gueules magically materialized in Esperanza and Ricardo’s new master bedroom. The couple talks about Cristina Somethingez de Somethingama, Silvana’s replacement at Instituto Palacios. She is like the savior of every educational establishment whose academic level ever experienced a decline, or whatevs. I can hear the actors’ lines being fed to them through their chícharo (pea-sized prompter) and I can’t believe the level of don’t give a fudge-ness of this production team. Is somebody in charge of this clunker? Where were they during filming and/or post-production? Seriously, Osorio and Friends! Stop taking so many ciggie breaks!

Apparently, jail hasn’t attenuated Silvana’s raging bitchiness one bit. She treats Kristel nastily and orders her to get her money as well as a first-rate defense attorney.

At the MAPA School construction site, Erasmo lies to Jerónimo about the source of the money for Kiko’s surgery. Erasmo is so recklessly stupid he deserves to be roughed up by the loan sharks when his dumb plan inevitably goes wrong. Pato and Luca are at the site too, trying to get ahold of Ernesto to demand an explanation for Anastasia’s hiring.

Kracy informs Ernesto that he’ll foot the bill for moving the kids’ bedroom furniture to his house. She also asks him to give her a credit card to pay for her new makeover. He agrees as long as she pampers him very much.

Selena and Rodrigo inform their dad that they moved into Ernesto’s house.

Viviana is miffed to see that Anastasia has been hired to work with Mario at the constructora

The eternally sniveling Kristel tells Pedro about her mother's legal and financial woes. Pedro promises to help Kristel with anything she needs. She reproaches him for not keeping Aranza at arm’s length then tells him she can’t trust him and leaves in a huff. It is worth noting that all this cheap drama is coming from the hateful heffa who physically and verbally assaulted Aranza when she saw her standing near Pedro, before admitting, a few hours later, that she hasn’t stopped pining for Erasmo. Why don’t you take a seat, Kristel? In fact, why don’t you take several seats?

At Casa Guerrero, Aranza has a nightmare about her rape. She calls Pedro, because he is now Mexico City’s one-man department of social services. He provides support to families of the incarcerated, he counsels rape victims, he designs schools for underprivileged children...

At the MAPA School construction site, Erasmo dodges Luca’s questions about the 10,000 US Dollars he supposedly borrowed from him to fund Kiko’s surgery. Erasmo tells Saint Luca to mind his own business. Jerónimo is pretty sure Erasmo got the money from their neighborhood loan shark (prestamista). Mario and Anastasia show up. Pato and Anastasia start exchanging insults. Yawn.

Ricardo shows up at Ernesto’s building and starts kicking (patear) the front door like a maniac. He orders the doorman to open the door and bellows: “I am an Interpol agent!” Ernesto calls the police and warns them that Ricardo is armed. The Hot Fuzz show up and lecture Ricardo on his violent behavior. They ask him to accompany them to the police station. Kracy and Ernesto watch the show on their video intercom. They are very amused by what they see, until Kracy decides to have a jealous fit over Esperanza: She doesn’t understand the fascination of Ernesto and Ricardo with the maestra. Anyway, whatevs, she takes a wad of cash from her new sugar daddy and heads out. Ernesto is left alone with the kids. Thankfully, the housekeeper is there to take care of the little ones. She gives them agua de jamaica and molletes made with Lala cheese. The kids love Lala cheese so much that they smile from ear to ear, draw happy pictures and forget about the awkwardness of moving into a complete stranger’s house.

The Phantom of the Opera, formerly known as La Sombra, is determined to take his revenge on Ricardo. What else is new, eh? Well, he’ll say goodbye to his mother and children THEN take his revenge on Ricardo.

At the MAPA School construction site, Anastasia is ready to leave but not before muttering a few threats against her rival. Pato confides in Erasmo. She is still reeling from the insinuation Anastasia made about her sexual prowess with Luca in Las Vegas when they were still novios. Erasmo knows that Anastasia continues to make passes at Luca (le sigue echando los perros) and that she slept with Ernesto in the not-so-distant past. Pato tells Erasmo that, to make matters worse, Anastasia is now working with Kristel’s father. Pato realizes her gaffe and apologizes for mentioning Kristel’s name. She wants to be friends with Erasmo because he is Luca’s friend. She assures him that Luca is a generous person who is always happy to help others. “Please don’t exclude him!”, says Pato as she kisses Erasmo goodbye.

At Casa Manzanares, Kiko calls to talk to Salma, who pours her heart out to him about her problems at home and at school. Chronic Sourpuss shows up and informs her grandma that Silvana needs protection money.

La Sombra breaks into his mother’s car, totally undetected by Ricardo’s incompetent subordinates, Iker and Andrés. Ducking out of view, in the backseat, La Sombra instructs Josefa to drive and lose the agents tailing her. Unsurprisingly, she manages to escape Iker and Andrés with great ease.

At Casa Guerrero, Esperanza consoles Aranza and advises her to seek a support group. Aranza needs help to deal with her feelings of fear, shame and powerlessness after the savage rape she endured.

At Viviana’s apartment, Pato convinces Luca to lend Erasmo money for Kiko’s operation. She offers to visit Casa Gallo and persuade Erasmo to accept Luca’s help. Luca is proud of Pato. Pato is proud of Luca. Without transitions, Luca says that he is worried about his mom because she told him in the morning that she can’t find a meaning for her life.

After getting a sermon from the only policeman in Mexico City, Ricardo leaves the only police station in Mexico City to head to Supercop Central. He was informed that Maximiliano Izaguirre, aka La Sombra, was spotted in Josefa’s car. However, the transmitter device emits signals of Josefa’s location and can be tracked by Ricardo and his team. Ricardo is determined that today shall mark his final confrontation with La Sombra! Today Ricardo shall capture La Sombra! I shall believe that when I see it!

A quote from the capítulo

“Mi linda compañera de celda, la Tuerta, me dijo que para poder dormir en mi cama necesito dinero. Para bañarme necesito dinero, y para tener protección, también necesito dinero. (...) No tengo ni un quinto. La fianza es enorme. El juicio puede durar hasta dos años, y aquí me voy a quedar.”*

*Silvana is singing the prison blues to Kristel: “My lovely cellmate, One-Eyed Lady, told me that I need money to be able to sleep in my bed. I need money to take a shower and I also need money to receive protection. (...) I don’t have a penny. The bail amount is enormous. The trial can last up to 2 years, and here I am going to stay.” Well, if you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime!

Hello Patio Pals! Hope you had a great weekend!

Many thanks to Pablo and Adriana for their exquisite recaps from Thursday and Friday, respectively. I caught up on the episodes and your excellent retellings after work and they were a delight! (the recaps not the epis)

Enjoy the discussion! Good night :)

Thanks, Nandicta, for the very enjoyable read. I loved: "because he can . . ."! Nothing truer ever said. You are right about the PEAM plot line, too. All we need now is a fat little bull dog named Sansón and we will be set. (The original Sansón died during the production of PEAM so he will not be making a return but maybe they could get a clone)

Hmmm, the fact that Pedro can't "abandon Ara when she needs him most" may actually say something about who he might end up with. If he really wanted to be free of her in order to not tick off Kristel, he could have already started to include Esperanza and Pato a lot more in being involved in her care. If nothing else, Kristel's very possessive behavior might just seal her fate all on her own and push Pedro back towards Ara. Esperanza made a good suggestion with the support group.

Silvana was just as despicable as ever putting the guilt trip on Kristel.

The whole Nacho/Begoña thing was just too silly for words. Why would Begoña want a man who just wants to fool around with his buddies? What is there to miss if he heads over the border?

It was funny watching along with Ernesto and Tracy (yes they did need that popcorn) as Ricardo predictably lost it instead of going through the appropriate legal channels.

Guess that nobody will be able to protect Erasmo or his kneecaps from the neighborhood loan sharks because of his pride.

Thanks Nandicta, I couldn't have said it better!

For me, this is the end, my friend.
This is the end of this novela. From now on, it will be just patchwork and the proof is that Osorio's talk with his boss has been included in the plot, exchanging the word ''escuela'' for ''novela'' Look:

Esperanza and Ricardo's new house. Sometime during the day. Lapsus post coitus and him showing leg for ratings.

-Vicky Cristina Barcelona, do you know her?
-Yes of course, she is very famous. She specializes in saving novelas from very difficult crisis, novelas that have bad plots and that need to rise their ratings. She is like a fireman of acting. The quality of this novela has dropped very much and I told Osorio, but he didn't listen and now he is in danger of losing his job!

This are ''patadas de ahogado'' (drowning kicks) and I doubt that anything can save this novela.

Today, even when Josefa and Iker (and I am sure Iker said not to follow her because she had the tracker but ended up doing it) were as close as they could bumper to bumper, they lost her. Then I am sure Silvana can report her cellmates and be changed or protected from injury.

Nandicta, very clever. I enjoy your salty, wry comments very much. The vocabulary is always a treat and greatly appreciated.

"mattress Olympics", "eternally sniveling Kristel" and "hateful heffa" all made me smile and were among my favorites.

There were many who irked last night, weren't there? But Kristel was the most annoying. "she hasn’t stopped pining for Erasmo. Why don’t you take a seat, Kristel? In fact, why don’t you take several seats?". Well said Nandicta! She wants both men to continue to swoon over her while she takes forever to make up her mind. She wants her cakes and to eat them too! As I've been harping on, there is no decision. If Pedro is still in the running, I can't help you. No one can. Free Erasmo so he can live again. Hopefully, he will find a nice nurse to tend to his wounds once the loan shark gets hold of him (right, Jarifa?) Ack.

"If nothing else, Kristel's very possessive behavior might just seal her fate all on her own and push Pedro back towards Ara". I like your theory Jarifa as I like Ara and feel she is by far the better match for Pedro.

"Apparently, jail hasn’t attenuated Silvana’s raging bitchiness one bit". No, it hasn't. On the bright side, if she were to turn afraid and meek, she would be toast as her cell mates probably love the smell of fear. She does need to stay strong but point her anger at her colleagues, not her family.

"In the reception area, Nacho informs Begoña that he decided to pull a Ricardo and cross the border illegally into the United States". Nacho is his own worst enemy, isn’t he?

Guess that nobody will be able to protect Erasmo or his kneecaps from the neighborhood loan sharks because of his pride. Jarifa, I am crossing my fingers not a hair on that lovely specimen is harmed, even though he made such a stupid decision.

Pablo, Marcos is coming! I have to admit I cannot wait to see what his storyline is - I think he is going to be a villain. And he does it so well! I have high hopes things will be moving quickly and soon!

Thank you Nandicta!

Diana

Well... once they started altering the ''original'' content in order to save the product making up new characters for Marjorie and Marcos, instead of being careful while making a Lala Gruyere cheese story with plenty of holes, me vale un cacahuate (it's worth a peanut).

I am sorry but if I didn't like the ''original'' idea, this new one is terrible!

I don't see how Marjorie and Marcos on screen can save something when you keep the same writers. Why not fire the whole writing staff and replace them? Jajaja!

Pablo, I don't disagree with any of your comments. At all...

I guess I'm just trying to look for any silver lining.

In spite of everything, I do care about Kiko and Adrian and I want to see how their storylines are resolved.

Diana

I like your optimism and respect everybody's opinions, my personal view is different and not meant to change anything. Maybe I don't see the lining because I have decided not to see it.

But this is something between me and Osorio...

What's a novela without conflict? I've grown to care about many of characters even Viviana AND Ernesto, but eventually, our hearts need to get ripped out and torn into pieces. It needed some trainwrecks set into motion. I think this story suffered because there was too much "doing the right thing". Possible cancer, teen pregnancy, alcoholism, and rape storylines can only go so far. Yes, it felt good to have Pato be upfront with Luca about Vicente, but that storyline was wrapped up in what, two or three days? We want that papasote of Ricardo to always be the hero and be perfect, but his ranting and kicking at the entrance of the building where Ernesto lives and his "I'm an Interpol agent, let me in" is only setting him up to do something he'll later regret. When I was little, I heard my uncle tell someone, "If you can't control yourself, someone else will control you." Ricardo is probably going to end up in a heap of trouble if he can't rein in his emotions, but he shouldn't because this is a novela. He's going to break our heart. Something's bound to happen with Ricardo and Cristina. Sure, work issues can become pillow talk, but who talks about another woman post-sexy time?

And Erasmo, well, something bad is probably going to happen to him. Yes, it felt good to see him as the doting older brother supporting his fellow gallitos, getting the girl of his dreams, and getting a promotion at work, but his arranging to get the money from the loanshark is probably setting him up for big trouble. I hate to say it, but I wouldn't doubt it if he really ended up in a wheelchair.

As for Kristel, every novela has a character who cries and cries and cries so much they give me a headache.

This novela is like a charm bracelet. It has its couple you want to see live happily ever after, an Oracle (Margarita), some developing villains (Anastasia might become the psychopath this show needs. Tracy is just one crazy beyotch. La Sombra was too weak.), secondary conflicts (diabetes, possible cancer, alcoholism, rape, teenage pregnancy), and Kristel as the Magdalena who will cry so much they can hire her out for wakes and funerals.

I never thought about Erasmo and Kiko both being in wheel chairs. Yikes! Maybe they won't come to collect until after Kiko's surgery.

Well...you know what we say...the worse the show, the funnier the recaps. And this recap was hilarious; I was quite literally laughing out loud all the way through.

I still want to see some good art heists.

Adrian should be thanking his lucky stars to be in rehab and away from all these disasters for a few weeks.

Thank you all for stopping by! Loved reading all your well thought-out comments. Sorry I couldn't discuss things further but I have extra workload this week (covering for a colleague on leave) and things are a bit manic in my neck of the woods.

Please be sure to check out Tuesday's recap which Kinomathematika's first recap for SdA. It's terrific! Thank you, Kino!
