Sueño de Amor (SdA) #55. Tuesday May 24, 2016. Esperanza Makes Lying a Family Affair, Erasmo Tells the Truth

This recap was brought to you by our recapper and Patio regular, Kinomathematika! Enjoy!

Ricardo is still trying to reach Esperanza. Pedro doesn’t answer him, either. He doesn’t know what to tell the priest. Margarita goes to him asking if the bride had second thoughts.

Esperanza is at home and says that she loves Ricardo too much to obligate him to marry someone who will die in months. She’s going to wither and wear away. I don’t want the love of my life to be witness to my deterioration. She asked Pato and Pedro forgiveness. They told her she had nothing to ask forgiveness for. She thinks she has to sacrifice herself for Ricardo. Pato tells her that Ricardo needs her, but Esperanza says that Ricardo doesn’t need someone who’s dying (moribunda). She says she’s doing it for him to be with his children and for him to be happy. Destiny wants them to be apart. She asks them to help her hide the truth.

Pedro tells her that even though they aren’t in agreement with her plan, they will help if it calms her. She tells him to call Ricardo to tell him to come over, that she needs to talk to him alone.

She goes to her room to change out of her dress and breaks down crying asking God why and how is she going to leave behind her children.

At the church, Ricardo is talking to Margarita telling her that he can’t get through to Esperanza, Pato, or Pedro. He suspects that something is wrong. His phone rings, and it’s Pedro. He tells Ricardo to come to the house to talk to Esperanza. He tells him the wedding is cancelled. Tracy overhears the conversation. Ricardo wants to know why. Pedro won’t tell him.

Ernesto is in bed with Anastasia and sitting at the foot of the bed. He remembers Murillo, his investigator, telling him about the doctor discovering tumors in Eperanza stomach. Nacha slithers her way up to Ernesto asking if Esperanza’s wedding is truly affecting him. She suggests he relax and to tell her what’s wrong with him. He throws her off of him, offending her. He asks her if she expects them to become friends and confidants. She’s extorting him, and she expects him to tell him his pains? She says she wants to be treated like a human being. He asks if she’s serious and doesn’t she know what she is. She says she’s a woman who fell in love like never before and made one mistake. One mistake? Yes, one mistake. She says she doesn’t deserve to treated like a disposable object. She asks if she deserves to be happy. Ernesto throws back at her that she wants to be happy, but she’s extorting and blackmailing. She wants to be happy sleeping with the father when she loves the son. He says he doesn’t know why he wastes time with her because she’s nothing. She’s just some resentful woman. She’s nothing, nothing more than the daughter of a servant.

At the church, Margarita asks Ricardo what happened. He tells her it’s something serious. This isn’t like Esperanza. He apologizes to the priest and tells him that there won’t be a wedding. Tracy hears this. Luca goes after Ricardo asking what happened. Ricardo says he doesn’t know and that Esperanza cancelled the wedding. He finds Rodrigo and Selena, and they leave.

Esperanza comes out to the dining room and asks Pedro if he talked to Ricardo. He says yes. He told him that the wedding is cancelled and he’s on his way over here. He tells her that Kristel keeps calling and that she’s probably worried. He’s going to call her. Esperanza tells him okay. Pato says she needs to call Luca. Esperanza reminds them of their pact. Pedro tells her that Ricardo must not know anything. Esperanza tells Pato to get changed and cleaned up so that Ricardo doesn’t suspect the truth about what’s happening. Pato tells her that it’s hard for her to hide her tears, after all she could lose her at any moment. She says she can’t live without her and she doesn’t want to lose her.

Ricardo is walking with the kids to the car and doesn’t know what to tell them other than there won’t be a wedding. They’re going to Esperanza’s house and will find out what’s happening. Tracy walks up behind them. She tells him that she prohibited him from bringing the kids to the wedding.

Luca calls Pato asking what he can do for her. She tells him that she’ll talk to him later. There’s nothing that he can do for her. He tells her that Ricardo already left and is obviously very confused.

Tracy asked what happened. Ricardo asks her why she’s there and what does she have in her bag. She says the more important question is what happened to Esperanza. She was the love of his life. Why did she have second thoughts? Or maybe she didn’t love him the way he thought. She delights in his pain and says that she’ll come by for the kids at night and threatens to accuse him with the judge. Richard drives off. She laughs thinking that she didn’t even have to lift a finger to stop the wedding.

Salma is itching to publish the whole matter on social media. Mario has to tell her that this is a serious thing. Margarita tries to stop that conversation and asks Kristel what Pedro told her. She tells her that he said he couldn’t talk about it, to forgive him, and to go home. Félix brushes it off to Esperanza having cold feet. Margarita doesn’t buy it because she knows Esperanza loves Ricardo. She thinks that something’s not right and that things aren’t how they appear (aquí hay gato encerrado).

Anastasia is in bed drinking champagne as Ernesto comes out dressed. She’s still trying to charm him asking if he’s going to leave her all by herself. His cell rings. It’s Tracy. She tells him she has some good news for him. Esperanza cancelled the wedding. He thinks it’s a joke. She tells him that Pedro called Ricardo to tell him. He asks why. She says she doesn’t know, but that the important thing is for him to know that Esperanza and Ricardo’s stupid dream of love didn’t happen.

Pato tells Esperanza that she’s going to change and get cleaned up. She also tells her that she hopes she knows what she’s doing. Esperanza tells Pedro that she admires his strength and bravery.

In her room, Pato cries remembering Dr Medrano saying that Esperanza has 3-6 months to live. As she takes off her makeup she says she has to be strong for her Mapa.

In the hospital, Kiko asks Erasmo if he still thinks about his doll (tu muñequita), Kristel. He tells him that he still does, but bottom line (la neta) he has come to terms with it (resignarse). He lost her or maybe she was never really his. Kiko tells him oh, well, right? When it’s your turn, it’s your turn. He asks him why he has such a worried look on his face. Erasmo debates whether to say it or to just store it away in his big noggin. Kiko says it must be something serious (grueso: literally thick, but in this case, serious) Erasmo admits that he’s been thinking about something that is not right by any means. Kiko wants to know what. Kiko probes and probes until Erasmo tells him he’s been thinking about someone who is an impossibility. Kiko jokingly guesses: Aracely Arámbula! (Fiction crossing into reality into fiction: Aracely was in Juan Osorio’s "El Alma no Tiene Color"). Erasmo says she has a boyfriend and he doesn’t even know her that well. He tries to brush off Kiko and thinks that he’s dreaming (alucinando: literally hallucinating, but more like daydreaming). Kiko says he can’t tell him all that and leaves him hanging. Spill it. Erasmo tells hims he’s wrong for who he’s been thinking about. Kiko tells him to just spit it out (¡Escúpelo!) and he’ll give him his expert opinion. He tells him it’s awful (pésimo) because she’s the girlfriend of one of his friends. (¡Ay, Kiko!) He asks if it’s Jerónimo’s girlfriend. Erasmo comes out and says it’s Pato, Luca’s girlfriend.

Pato is cleaned up and has changed into regular clothes. She embraces a picture of Esperanza with her and Pedro when they were toddlers.

Ricardo arrives with Rodrigo and Selena. He sees Ernesto outside. He tells them to go to Esperanza’s apartment and to wait for him there. They go. He asks Ernesto what he’s doing there. Ernesto says, “I ask the same of you. Weren’t you supposed to get married?” That sets off Ricardo and he takes Ernesto by the lapels of his jacket.

Pato opens the door for Selena and Rodrigo. Selena tells her that they’re sad and that their dad is on his way. He’s with Ernesto. Esperanza has to face them. She first asks what Ernesto is doing there. Pedro goes to find out. Selena asks Esperanza why she doesn’t want to marry her father.

Ricardo thinks Ernesto’s presence has something to do with Esperanza cancelling the wedding. After all, the other day he told them that they would get married over his dead body. He wants to know what he did; how did he threaten her? Ernesto tells him he had nothing to do with Esperanza cancelling the wedding. Ricardo still doesn’t buy it. Ernesto tells him that Tracy told him what happened and he came by to see if Esperanza as well as Pato needed anything. Ricardo insists Ernesto did something to obligate her to cancel it. He threatens to punch him when Pedro shows up stopping him. He tells him Ernesto had nothing to do with what’s happening. He tells Ricardo to go to the house so that Esperanza can clear things up. He goes. Pedro asks Ernesto what he’s doing there. Ernesto says he found out about the wedding being cancelled and came to see if Esperanza needed anything. Pedro tells him that his mom doesn’t need anything from him.

Esperanza tells the kids to go with Pato to play and that she’s going to talk to their father. Rodrigo tells her that they don’t know what’s happening. She tells Pato to take them. Selena asks, “But weren’t we going to live together?” Pato takes them away. (Cue the nursery music.)

Ricardo enters, asking what’s happening. Pedro tells Esperanza he’ll be in his room if she needs anything. Ricardo demands to know why she cancelled their wedding. Esperanza tells him that she realized that she doesn’t love him.

Viviana and Luca arrive at the penthouse. She asks him if he knows what happened. He says he doesn’t know. Viviana says it’s all so strange. They waited for so long for the moment to marry and suddenly Esperanza cancels it all. Why? What happened? Luca can’t answer.

Ricardo can’t believe Esperanza. She insists it’s the truth. She says she made a mistake thinking her love for him had survived all those years. Everything in the present was an illusion, a fantasy. She clung to the idea of love but doesn’t love him. She told him she doesn’t even know him really or if he really even knows her. She also realized, above all, that she didn’t forgive him for abandoning her when they got engaged, for not trying hard enough to reach her when he was in prison. He wasted 20 years. Over the past few nights, after thinking things over, she concluded that she moved on with Pedro Sr. and with Ernesto because, back then, she didn’t love him enough. He did the same thing with Tracy. They both got over it and moved on. Yes, he’s important in her life, but she can’t marry someone she doesn’t love, someone she stopped loving, and hasn’t truly forgiven in her heart. Ricardo takes her by the hands and tells her that he doesn’t believe her one bit. He thinks Ernesto is pressuring her. She says Ernesto has nothing to do with it. Ricardo tells her that Ernesto is outside circling, waiting. She tells him Ernesto doesn’t matter to her. Ricardo tells Esperanza to tell him truthfully that Ernesto isn’t pressuring her. Ricardo will help her, just tell him the truth! She repeats that it’s her decision to end things and it has nothing to do with Ernesto. She can’t marry him with so many doubts, questions. She couldn’t fool (engañar) him when, in reality, he wasn’t enough for her, he didn’t fulfill her needs (“no me siento plena contigo”). She didn’t want her children and his children living in a supposedly happy home. Ricardo still doesn’t buy it. She said she tried to believe that she loved him. She was just blinded by the idea of love. He asks her to swear that everything she’s saying is true. Without skipping a beat, she swears. She says she’s telling him this because she doesn’t want to hurt him more. She asks for him to forgive her and to respect her decision and to go away. He doesn’t believe her. She tells him to understand that people change and so do feelings, sometimes one day to the next. He has actually brought more problems than happiness to her life. He asks her what she’s talking about. Kidnapping, La Sombra’s attempt on Pato’s life (She forgot to mention Cracy.) He asks why she kept all these feelings inside instead of talking about them. She says she just kept them, just ‘cause. She just wants to dedicate herself 100% to her kids. She’s used to being alone. Stay away. He tells her he won’t without knowing what really is happening. She swears that she wanted to love him, forgive him, but that she can’t. She wants to go back to her life without him. She yells, “I don’t love you! Get it in your head. Don’t make things more difficult, please. Leave, take your kids, and don’t come back here.” What does Ricardo do? He falls to the floor.

Esperanza stumbles into her room. She remembers asking Dr Medrano that best chances she has: six months to live. In a split screen, Ricardo is still asking himself what’s happening. This is just a bad dream, a nightmare. Esperanza remembers pleading with Pato and Pedro to help her so that Ricardo can be happy. Ricardo is in denial that this is happening. He asks why Esperanza changed. She touches her ring and says, “I’m sorry, my love, but it’s better for you. It was the only way, my love.” Ricardo doesn’t understand any of this. He throws things. Esperanza thinks, “Oh, my God, this was so hard. Forgive me, Ricardo.”

At the hospital, Kiko asks how could the wedding have been cancelled. Adrián tells him what Luca told him, that Esperanza cancelled it suddenly. Estrella thinks maybe it was cold feet, that sometimes happens. Kiko says maybe so, but you could see it in Esperanza’s eyes that she loved Ricardo. Estrella asks him what those eyes are like. His response, “Like when I look at Salma.” (Cringe! Dude, Kiko, no. Estrella? Adrián? They’re in the room with you!) Adrián out and asks, “Salma? Salma Kuri?” Estrella tells him her brother has it bad for Salma. “My little brother is dragging himself for the girl who talks with a potato in her mouth.” (“...mi carnalito anda derrapando por la niña que habla con una papa en la boca. La Sasquash.”) Adrián calls Salma complicated. (“Híjole, Kiko...no es por molestar pero la verdad es que Salma es bastante complicada.”) Estrella tells him, “Of course. And she doesn’t even give you the time of day (no te pela).” Kiko defends her saying she has changed and that “once she sees [him] walking, dancing, and all, you’ll see how [he] reels (ligar) her in.”

Félix and Margarita talk about the unfortunate end of the wedding. Caras vemos, corazones no sabemos. (We see faces but not hearts.) Margarita asks Félix if he isn’t embarrassed to be seen with a slightly older woman like her. He says he wants the world to see him with the wise, generous, fun, marvelous woman that she is. She has an improper proposal. She gives him a box. She says she “had them polished (pulir) and attached to a shamrock (trébol).” Two keys: one for the gate (portón) and one for the front door. She asks him to move in with her. He can’t believe it. She says, “I want you here (her chest) nestled (acurrucadito), close to me. Yes or no?” He excitedly accepts. (¡Beso, beso, beso!

Esperanza’s words echo in Ricardo’s head. “I want to go back to my life without you. I don’t love you....” [Knock at the door. Doorbell.] Tracy. [Lo que faltaba] She’s there for “her” kids, dear.

Esperanza is pacing back and forth worrying that Ricardo has to believe her. Pedro sees it as being really difficult. Knowing him, he’s going to investigate and find out what’s really happening. Also, from what happened outside he thinks that Ernesto is pressuring her.

At Ernesto’s, Murillo gives him a copy of Esp’s results from her biopsy. He had to pay triple for it. Ernesto just wants him to get to the point (Al grano). She has stomach cancer, and she has only months to live.

Tracy needles Ricardo. He grabs her by the arms demanding she tell him what she knows. She mocks him. When she’s clear that he’s not playing, she tells him she didn’t do anything. She admitted that she was at the church because she was going to do something bad to Esperanza, but it wasn’t necessary because she never imagined that the wedding would be cancelled. She asks, “What do you call it: destiny or divine justice? My kids are coming with me.” Ricardo stands up to her games and threats and throws her out.

Esperanza, Pedro, and Pato are still in shock limbo trying to go on, but none of them are really ready. Pato tells Esperanza that Ernesto keeps calling but that she doesn’t want to talk to him right now.

It’s bedtime for Rodrigo and Selena with Ricardo. Ricardo doesn’t know how to answer Selena when she asks why he didn’t marry Esperanza.

Esperanza tells Pato that she’s going to try to sleep for a little while. Pato admits that Ernesto overheard her conversation and knows about the tumors. She tells her to tell him that she’s fine, they’re benign. Before Esperanza goes to her room, Pato gives her her blessing.

Ernesto stops trying to call Pato. Tracy arrives. He asks her what’s in the bag. She tells him, “Things, I was going to use at the wedding, but it wasn’t necessary. Finally something worked out. I can’t believe it. Shouldn’t you be happy?” Ernesto is in no mood for her. She tells him that Esperanza told Ricardo that she doesn’t love him. She told him that Ricardo was trying to get it out of her that she made her tell him that she doesn’t love him.

Pato lets Kristel in when she shows up to see Pedro. Kristel asks questions but Pato doesn’t answer.

Esperanza cries in her room and takes off her ring. Ricardo remembers having champagne with Esperanza, Acapulco, and then the echoes of “No te amo!” He asks himself, “Why?” Esperanza remembers saying, “I’m going to wither away and shrivel up... I don’t want the love of my life to be a witness to my deterioration. It’s for the best that Ricardo stays away from me.

Tomorrow: Ricardo tells Iker he’s desperate. Pedro tells Esperanza that Ernesto knows she has cancer. Ernesto threatens Esperanza, “If you don’t let me be with you, I’ll tell Ricardo the whole truth.”

Hello Patio Pals! So sorry for the delay. Kinomathematika emailed me her recap 5 hours ago but I had one of those days, I couldn't get to a computer until about an hour ago. And since when it rains, it pours, the minute I finished formatting, the internet went off!

Anyhoo, many thanks for the excellent recap, Kino, and for all the goodies you provided (vocab, quotes, dichos, funny asides).

I never thought I'd say this about the Osorio Kid but, really, thank goodness for the character he's playing! When the funniest scenes in a "comedy" are provided by a recently operated-on kid in a hospital, something isn't right!

When is someone going to do us all favor and kidnap Anastasia, until the end of the show? (I wanted to say do a Vicente Santillana on her, but, honestly, I'm up for anything that disappears this annoying character from my screen!)

Enjoy the discussion! :)

Thanks for the recap!

Yes! The De la Colina enterprises should send Anastasia to Tabasco!

One thing is to lie and another one to swear in vain, but another is to stage all this pretend ''nothing happened here'' play. Both Esperanza and Ricardo always proud themselves on knowing each other so well that they could spot a lie from miles. When did they lose that superpower?

The delay of this recap was good because had me wondering 1,001 speculations regarding why is all this happening and the best I could come up was, if this is a SUEÑO DE AMOR (dream of love), maybe all this is just a nightmare caused by all the excitement and in episode 129 Esperanza will wake up on saturday morning, September the 1st, ready to tie the knot so the wedding can take place on episode 130. It's either that or Ms Virgen de la Paz performing the greatest miracle from heaven or the results were mixed up with someone else's and all those cramps are due to a bad chilorta she ate or she is pregnant with twins... LOL!!

Otherwise, how are they going to resolve this mess anyway?

Thanks, Kino, for an excellent recap of a a crappola episode. Truly the recap was a major improvement.

Nandicta, young Osorio is truly coming into his own in this novela. He is quite a talent.

My favorite part of last night was Esperanza going through all of the reasons she could not "forgive" Ricardo and so many of them came from his twenty year absence with no attempt to contact her. We sure know those well. What I found interesting is that he acted almost "insulted" she would bring up individual instances of when he could have made contact but didn't. He was so smug and not much better than Ernesto. I also don't like how he manhandles Tracy. He seems to grab women he is upset with; not a desirable trait.

I am still counting on La Virgen de la Paz.

My second favorite part was Margarita calling Félix her "Dali" so she could be his "Gala" and him taking her up on the offer to move in.

We soldier on!

My second favorite part was Margarita

Sorry for the typo but too much in rush to correct it !

Thank you for the excellent recap! And the vocabulary as well!

Although I absolutely agree with all the reasons Esperanza actually told Ricardo as to why she won't marry him, and I don't think she should marry him especially when he's still convinced he's done nothing wrong, I hate this telenovela trope. Why would anyone think it is better for their loved one to hear "I don't love you" than to know that they are dying? Especially when they're going to find out you were dying anyway in a few months, when you are dead (barring a miracle from LVDLP or Saint Luca learning how to cure cancer real quick).

I'm guessing the Crayola ice cream caused the stomach cancer.

Kino, I didn't get to see this but I suspect you did not leave anything out in your incredible, detailed laden recap.

You managed to not only capture the excruciating emotions (which I suspect ran rampant last night) but all the cringe worthy events that accompanied them.

This entire event was so awesome, it deserves to be repeated: "Kiko says maybe so, but you could see it in Esperanza’s eyes that she loved Ricardo.

Regardless of why, he feels for Salma. (BTW, I also am a fan of the actor Jarifa). Now that is bad enough, but now Erasmo is totally obsessed with Pato after a five minute conversation? What on earth did he do to so anger Osario that his love life storyline is simply pathetic??

I never thought I would say the words thank heavens for Felix but "He says he wants the world to see him with the wise, generous, fun, marvelous woman that she is". Bravo to one thing going right.

I have a few days off this week and have a lot going on so I won't see this tonight either. Again, thank you Kino - I also appreciate your vocabulary.

Diana

Diana, enjoyo your time off!

Thank you Jarifa!

Diana

Nandicta, this was a heart wrenching episode and completely unnecessary. Enjoyed your recap tho. That is not going to go well for espy. Bad decision to keep this from the man she says she loves. This is hurting him more than the cancer news would. A bit Selfish of her to do this to him. She's sacrificing herself for him? really? He wont see it that way. Its bad enough she lies, Makin the kids lie too. He is going to he pissed for obvious reasons but on top of them.....O boy!!!

Hunker down this is going to be a big one. A big mess.
