Yago #10. Friday May 13, 2016. Some Truths Are Better Left Untold.

What is this salty discharge? Why am I bawling my eyes out, on a Saturday morning, over fictitious people? This ain't right.

At a glance

-- The Avengers Squad is disintegrating: Yago hides things from his sidekicks, while Katia and Teo turn on each other.
-- Damián upgrades his blackmail plan.
-- More about Abel's backstory after the casino robbery.
-- Yago tells his mother that he is Omar.

A closer look

Let's delve right into the action, shall we? Flashback. San Nicolás Prison, a few years ago. Abel pays Omar a visit. He is visibly upset to see his friend’s bruised face and asks him what he can do to help. Omar wants answers, answers Abel is not prepared to give. He wants to know whether Abel knew about Lucio and Sara, about their intent to betray him. Abel dodges Omar’s questions and evades his scrutinizing gaze. He pretends that he doesn’t know anything about the casino robbery and that he hasn’t heard about either Lucio or Sara in a long time. Abel says his fare-thee-wells: He’s going to bounce (retachar) to a new place and start from zero, so he won’t be able to keep up with Omar and... Before he can finish stuttering his lame excuses, Omar sternly bids him goodbye and wishes him good luck. He smells a rat. Abel emphatically makes Omar promise that he’ll take care of himself.

Present time. Yago watches the casino’s CCTV footage and confirms Abel’s betrayal: “He who looks for the truth runs the risk of finding it. Are we really prepared to discover the truth? To learn after many years that we don’t know those we thought we knew. Abel, Omar’s most loyal friend turned out to be a traitor. Sometimes, we are not ready for the truth and we don’t know what to do when we discover it. Bring it to light (sacarla a la luz)? Ignore it? Or bury it deep in our memories?” Yago puts the hard disk drive in his safe and sheds a single, burning tear of rage and disappointment.

At Casa Sarquis, Ámbar vehemently protests Lucio’s decision to throw her father out in the middle of the night. She can’t understand her older sister’s passivity; Sara isn’t exactly a submissive wife. Lucio puts his foot down: Damián was going to hit MY child! This is MY house! Who stays and who goes is MY decision! Mine, mine, mine! Ámbar doesn’t like the insinuation; she feels her brother-in-law is threatening to kick her out too. After all, guests, like fish, begin to smell after three days (el muerto y la invitada apestan a los tres días).

At Yago’s lair, Katia and Teo are brought up to speed with the latest developments and feel the urge to explore Casa Sarquis more in depth, for further clues. Yago snaps at them and insists that they wait a little longer before doing so: “If we rush things, we are going to be indiscreet (nos vamos a ir de boca)”. He is evidently tired and irritable, so he calls it a night. His two sidekicks decide to go out for hot chocolate and churros. However, they get into an argument at the front door and cancel their friendly date. Teo feels that Yago is hiding something from him and tries to enlist Katia’s help to find out what it is. He needs to discover the truth for Yago’s sake. Katia questions Teo’s loyalty. No chocolatito for you, baldy!

At Casa Sarquis, Matías tells his dad that Damián threatened to cut his hands off because he thought he stole something from him. Lucio wants to find out more. Matías hesitates a few seconds, while I remind myself to breathe. In the end, he doesn’t say anything about the casino's CCTV footage. Atta boy, Matí!

At a café, Sara berates her father for mistreating her son. Damián accuses her of stealing his hard disk drive and insists that his silence won’t be bought with the crumbs (migajas) she is willing to throw his way. He knows about their multimillion deal with Yago and demands a piece of the action. Either she gives him a generous slice (rebanada) of the cake or he sings! Sara insists that she won’t even pay his dinner! Oh well, he believes she has been warned. She doesn’t know what Damián is truly capable of and she’d better not come crying later!

At Casa Sarquis, Ámbar is doing what she does best: whinge and sermonize. She worries about her father and refuses to believe that he would ever hurt Matías. He is Daddy Dearest and what would become of him now without their help. Bla-flippin’-bloo-bla. This chick needs her medicine pronto. A brain tumor the size of a falafel must be forming inside her stupid skull. Sara reassures her that a scorpion never steps on its own tail (un alacrán nunca se pisa su propia cola). Damián is like a cockroach (una cucaracha); he would even survive a nuclear disaster!

Yago receives a phone call from Damián. The cockroach has a business deal to propose.

The next morning, at Yago’s lair, the Avengers Squad is having breakfast. Katia complains about the bitterness of the coffee. Yago considers it luxurious java compared to the pigswill served in jail. They discuss his meeting with Damián. Teo warns Yago to stay away from the sketchy guy, while Katia advises him the opposite: Damián has the information they are looking for. Katia was drinking from a flask during almost the entire the scene. Do people occasionally serve coffee in flasks?

Abel learns that Ámbar is dating Yago. Still, he agrees to take her to the hospital on his motorbike. It is oddly touching to see how gentle, sweet and devoted this finger-slicing nutso is to a girl who is completely uninterested in him.

At Yago’s lair, Katia finds out that Teo broke into Yago’s safe and saw the casino's CCTV footage saved on the hard disk drive. Teo believes that the remains of Omar made Yago hide this important discovery from his sidekicks. Katia calls Teo a traitor and whips out her cell to alert Yago. Teo points to the video: The only traitor here is Abel! He persuades Katia that, if she truly cares about Yago and is as fiercely loyal to him as she claims, she needs to let Teo act. “I don’t trust you!”, says Katia, staring him dead in the eyes. “I don’t trust you either”, replies Teo, unintimidated by her icy glare.

Sara and Yago bump into each other at a shopping mall. Sara is way too excited about this chance encounter. Yago says he’s there to replace Ámbar’s dress, the one he ruined with red wine. Sara corrects him: He’ll be shopping for her because that dress was actually hers. She ups the voltage of her flirting emitters and offers to help Yago buy her a new dress. Nicht gut

At the hospital, Ámbar is waiting for her doctor’s appointment. Abel is glad that she changed her mind about the treatment, even if it's Yago who managed  to convince her. Abel confesses that he would have liked Yago better had he not won over his princesa’s heart. Then again, he feels that it's for the best: “Because I don’t deserve you Ámbar! (...) It’s true! Princesses only kiss frogs in fairy tales”.

Flashback, Mexico City, a few years ago. The Traitors Squad is on the roof of its favorite dilapidated building. Abel is torn up after the visit he made to his incarcerated friend. He wants to fess up to everything. He doesn’t care if he rots in jail as long as Omar gets his freedom back. Lucio informs Abel that Omar died.

Present time. Sara tries on a dress while she talks about dreams and aspirations with Yago, who stands right outside the fitting room. The setting is too intimate and this pair is getting too flirty for my taste. Yago seems unsettled after Sara prances out in her new dress, being all pretty and giggly and whatnot. Nicht gut.

At the hospital, after the doctor examines Ámbar and prescribes her a new treatment, she asks him what would happen if she wants to have sex. Would she keel over in the middle of her horizontal dance number? The doc instructs her to wait until her next medical visit; if his examination yields good results, then he’ll advise her accordingly. Oh well, can’t blame a girl for trying!

At Casa Guerrero, Jonás discovers Melina unconscious. She swallowed her entire bottle of (anti-depressant?) pills.

At a café, Damián offers to sell Yago a detrimental and crucial piece of information about his new business partner, Lucio Sarquis. “Are you prepared to go against your own family?”, asks Yago. “Lucio was never part of my family”, replies the greedy cockroach. Yago promises to think it over, although he is not accustomed to acting this way. “You know where to find me”, says Damián.

At his office, Abel confides to Teo about Ámbar. He doesn’t understand what she sees in the gachupín (Yago). Abel advised her many times in the past to resume her treatment but she never paid him any heed. Teo wonders if what’s happening to Abel is due to Karma. All bad deeds get punished eventually. Abel flips out and demands an explanation. What is Teo insinuating exactly? Teo says that the two of them aren’t white doves. They are wolves, and wolves understand each other. Abel chucks him out of his office.

Flashback, undisclosed location, three years ago. Abel wakes up on the floor, after what seems like a debaucherous orgy. He is so disgusted with himself and consumed by guilt that he gets the suitcase containing his part of the casino loot and he throws its contents in the air for his party guests to take. So that’s how Abel lost his ill-gotten money. Sucker! If you're gonna do something wrong, do it right! You can't risk your life robbing a casino, kill a cop and jail your best friend in the process, only to give the proceeds to a bunch of druggies and boozers you don't even know!

Over the phone, Ámbar sets a lunch date with Yago to share news about her medical treatment and their upcoming boinking possibilities

At the Red Cross Hospital, a doctor informs Jonás and Bruno that Melina would be better in a psychiatric facility, given today’s incident. Jonás and Bruno are on the same page: they can’t intern Melina, she would die of sadness. Jonás feels guilty, he really thought the pills would help her get better. Bruno believes that the only thing that could’ve prevented this incident is if Omar were still alive.

At the casino, Teo discreetly informs Yago that the Sarquis couple wait for him in their office. Teo attaches a small recording device to the back of the collar of Yago’s jumper as he gives him a gentle pat. Yago tells Sara and Lucio about his meeting with Damián. The Sarquis couple assure Yago that they are not hiding anything, Damián just wants to extort money from him, that’s all. Bruno’s phone call interrupts the meeting. He called to inform Lucio about Melina’s incident. Lucio repeats the name of the hospital out loud. Yago checks his phone, pretends he has another appointment and takes his leave. Sara accompanies him outside the office and apologizes for Damián’s behavior. It is one of the reasons why she chose not to introduce him to Yago at first. “And sorry if I’m too honest but Damián, besides being my dad, has dedicated himself to ruining my life”, says Sara. Too many eyeroll-worthy things in this one sentence. “I understand. I too have my own demons and, well, we have to overcome them”, says Yago.

On the casino floor, Abel apologizes to Teo for his earlier outburst: “I think I crossed the line with you (me pasé de lanza contigo) earlier. You touched a nerve (tocaste una fibra muy sensible), man.” He admits that Teo was right about Karma, except that in Abel’s case, it seems more like a curse. Abel confesses that he acted very badly towards the person he loved most in the world, and now he is paying the consequences.

Flashback, Mexico City, some time ago. Abel enters Lucio’s office at the casino: “Compañere (mate)! I am back!”. Lucio laughs: “This must be a gift from the Three Wise Men! Didn’t you say you wanted nothing to do with us?” Well, truth be told, things have gone very badly for Abel: “I don’t even have half a miserable penny (no tengo un centavo partido por la mitad)!” Lucio mocks him for burning through his part of the casino loot in record time. Abel threatens to spill the beans if Lucio doesn’t make him his business partner in the casino. Lucio offers him the job of Security Director. Take it or leave it. Abel agrees.

Present time. The Sarquis couple argue over Damián. Lucio doesn’t understand how Sara can keep defending her father after all the despicable things he did to her. The guy’s a rat! Sara lets her husband know about the CCTV footage of the robbery and her father’s blackmail. Lucio has a mini-heart attack when he learns that the hard disk drive with the incriminating video has disappeared. Sara believes her father still has it. In any case, Damián is pi$$ed the heck off and he tends to become a lot more dangerous when he is in this particular state of mind. Don't we all!

At the Red Cross Hospital, Yago slips past Jonás and Bruno, who are busy talking to the doctor, and enters Melina’s room. When he reads her patient chart, his face contorts with pain and he can no longer contain his tears. Melina seems either unconscious or asleep. Yago squeezes her hand and pleads: Mamá, I don’t know if you can hear me, but I beg you to forgive me. I beg you to forgive me! Mamá, I never meant to hurt you!” Melina comes to and asks who’s there. “It’s me, Mamá. Omar.” Teo and Fidel are listening to this conversation and don’t seem pleased in the least. Melina is so overcome with emotion, she squeals, cries, smiles and gasps for breath all at the same time. “You were always right, Mamá. I’m not dead. I’m here right next to you.” She hugs him, smells his face and buries her nose in his luscious locks. He swears that he is innocent of the crime they accused him of. She assures him that she has always believed in his innocence. She notices his changed features. He tells her about the face change and the new identity. She has many questions: Why? Who did this to you? He’ll explain everything when the time is right. He makes her promise to keep the secret. Nobody else can find out because his life and hers are at risk. Melina feels as if she were reborn today. She had lost the will to live without him. He reprimands her for her suicide attempt then gives her a phone to use only in emergencies. He can’t stay any longer, he must go. Melina clings to his neck, she doesn’t want to lose him again. Yago puts her mind at ease: “You will never lose me again. Never again. I have found you and you have found me. Nobody can separate us”. He tells her he loves her, reminds her about the phone and their secret and leaves. On his way out, he bumps into Bruno and pretends that he’s there as a common courtesy to his employee. He offers Bruno time off and puts himself at his disposal for anything he or his mother might need. Bruno appreciates the gesture but looks a little puzzled by the excessive interest his boss is demonstrating

At Casa Sarquis, Ámbar worries that Yago will stand her up. Sara tells her that surely he had a prior engagement; besides, this is the life of entrepreneurs. They talk about Ámbar’s new treatment and her eagerness to get to know Yago, in the Biblical sense, and who can blame her. Sara receives a text message from Damián threatening that she and her husband will regret not negotiating with him. Ámbar calls Yago. He tells her he has bad cell coverage as he gets into his car. An invisible figure in the backseat pistol-whips the beefcake and he falls unconscious on the passenger seat! ¿Qué? ¿Qué? What?

A quote from the capítulo

“Quien busca la verdad corre el riesgo de encontrarla.”

*Yago imparts another pearl of wisdom: He who looks for the truth runs the risk of finding it. In another words, be careful what you wish for, lest it come true.

Your viewing vocabulario
(these definitions are context-specific, unless otherwise indicated)

retachar = to bounce, to return.
sacar a la luz = to bring to light, to make public.
el muerto y el invitado apestan a los tres días = also, “el muerto y el arrimado a los tres días apestan”. Literally translates as: The dead and the guest (or freeloader if it’s “arrimado”) stink after three days. This is an invitation to keep one’s visits short and sweet, I presume.
irse de boca = to be indiscreet, to blab.
migaja = a crumb.
rebanada = a slice.
un alacrán nunca se pisa su propia cola = Lit. “A scorpion never steps on its own tail”, i.e. a bad penny always turns up.
una cucaracha = a cockroach.
pasarse de lanza = to go too far, to cross the line, to exaggerate.
tocar la (una) fibra sensible = to hit a nerve.
no tener un centavo partido por la mitad = Lit. “To not have a penny split in half”, i.e. the ultimate state of being broke.

The mother-and-son scene reminded me of the following poem.

Ila Ommi (To My Mother)
I yearn for my mother’s bread,
My mother’s coffee,
My mother’s touch.
And childhood grows inside me,
Day upon breast of day.
And I love my life because,
If I died,
I’d feel ashamed of my mother’s tears.
Take me, Mother, if one day I return,
As a veil for your lashes.
And cover my bones with grass
Baptized by the purity of your heel.
And fasten my bonds
With a lock made of your hair,
With a piece of thread that trails in the train of your dress.
Maybe I’d become a god,
A god I’d become,
If I touched the depths of your heart.
Put me, if I return,
As fuel in your cooking stove,
As a clothes line on your rooftop,
For I have lost resolve,
Without your daily prayers,
I have grown decrepit.
Give me back the stars of childhood,
That I may join
The young birds
On the return route
To the nest of your waiting.

Mahmoud Darwish (1941-2008)

A composer and Oud player, called Marcel Khalife, set this poem to music and it is simply haunting.

Good morning, amig@s! The recap shall be up by early afternoon EDT. In the meantime, enjoy the discussion! :)

Gracias Nandicta!

So the tides are turning. Team Yago does not trust itself as much as we thought. Katia & Teo are like ice and fire. Why did Yago hire them in the first place?

Hated when Ambar defended Damian despite that he almost beat up the poor child. Ambar is quite naive due to her positive look on life. She does not see the evil that lurks inside of her own father . She doesn't even know that Damian would sell her for a few cigs in a minute! Speaking of Matias he is quite brave and smart for a kid.

Abel should have gone and confessed to the cops without a word long ago but I suppose the thought of easy money swayed away his loyalty. I have no tears for him. As for Sara's fake tears boo hoo hoo!

I haven't finished the episode yet so catch to you later

Nandicta, I am not watching Yago but did enjoy the poem. Very moving! Thank you.

Ah, how we all long for that deep, unconditional love that only a parent can give (my father was actually better at unconditional love than my mom...but they both tried, goodness knows). The poem and the music were both wonderful, and as you said, haunting. You add so much richness to this site, Nandicta. Thank you. What a gift!

Beautiful poem Nandicata. Thank you for posting. Unfortunately, my mother's love was very conditional, but I had that unwavering, love you always relationship with my dad, so this moved me thinking of him. Miss him every day and yes, this got me having to grab a few Kleenex.

I got home late yesterday from a dinner and didn't really see much of this between feeding cats, changing clothes, but after turning on the TV, and seeing Yago reading his mother's chart and his reaction, I stood there and had to see the rest of their scenes together (ran and finished other things when it switched to someone else. Me bad). Beautifully played by both. Ivan is really bringing it in this TN. (And I so want to be able to run MY fingers through that hair...ARGHHHHH.)

Anxiously waiting for the recap so I can read what I missed.

Having watched the episode, I liked but disliked that Yago revealed himself to his mother. Liked because he got rid of an emotional burden but disliked because be put her in further danger from both Lucio ,Sara & Damian but also from his mentor. I dont think that Fidel appreciated that Yago revealed himself too soon. Fidel will do whatever it takes to take out loose ends. I am wondering why he picked Yago as his protege. Omar still lives in Yago and that is a weakness that Fidel cannot afford. And there still lies the thought that Fidel was tge true mastermind behind the robbery.. Aghh my head hurts already. I will try to enjoy it without thinking. My mind already suffered multiple seizures from El Hotel.

Thanks for the poem Nandicta. Looking forward to recap.

So Teo isn't loyal to Yago but to Fidel.

I wasn't happy that Yago told his mother. I really can't see her being able to keep the secret. Bruno is already suspicious of Yago. You could see it at the hospital.

I blame Sara for Ambars complete misguidance on their father. Ambar isn't a child and deserves to know the truth, hell for her own safety. Sara knows what he is capable of and would throw Ambar away for money.

We now know how Abel lost all his money. He seems to be the one who got the worst end of the stick. He didn't know Omar was to take the fall, he murdered the policeman after Lucio unmasked him and pushed him to it., he was the only one who wanted to go back and save Omar. For all her tears Sara never made a move to help Omar or even spoke words to that affect.

For a couple at each others throat Thursday, Sara and Lucio were thick as thieves last night.

Nandicta, thanks for sharing that moving poem. Can't believe I've never seen it before. So appropriate for Yago last night.

I'm actually ticked at both Yago and Melina. Yago has compromised the whole plan. Melina has both a devoted husband and younger son, yet she'd end her life for a long "dead" son? One good thing - people already think Melina is nuts so they'll likely think her sudden (unexplained to them) happiness is just another sign of her crazy or of taking her meds.

Thanks for the lovely poem, Nandicta. I can't wait for your recap.

I just watched the episode, and I must say I agree with Teo. Yago can't be keeping secrets from Teo and Katia. Especially not huge secrets like the contents of the security video from the night of the robbery. Their lives on the line here too, and they need to have all the facts. It doesn't matter if they are part of this plan just because they are being paid, are loyal to Omar/Yago, or loyal to Fidel (who is bankrolling the whole thing). The three of them are in this together and it's not fair of Yago to force Katia and Teo to fly blind without the relevant info. Just this episode alone, Teo caught Yago compromising their mission twice-- first, lying about finding the surveillance tape, and then by revealing his identity to Melina. I don't blame him for keeping closer tabs on Yago, and for bringing in the big boss-- Fidel.

I was very touched by the scene between Melina and Yomar, and I understand why he felt compelled to reveal the secret to her. I think she'll be able to keep the secret. It will be harder to convince her family and doctors that she is not crazy, however.

What's Omar's plan? To really, really know who done it and kill em or have them sent to prison? Why not be glad he's out, scrape a few dollars together and everybody leave town. Instead innocent folk will get hurt? To me he is nothing more than a very motivated tool of Fidel, can't he see that? I even think the money he throws around is not his, so will he be paid by Fidel when the job is done?

That's a very good question Tofie. I believe that Yago wants to be part of their karma, he wants to punish them the same way they did it to him. Make them lose their family, their job, their integrity and will to live. He won't wait until karma catches up to them, he wants to become that Karma. I wouldn't mind if he just found Lucio, Abel & Sara and kill them in their sleep. He would hurt innocent persons either way but he chose the long term punishment instead.

The recap is up! Sorry for the delay and many thanks for your patience and for your kind words. Glad you enjoyed the poem. Will catch up with you tomorrow. Saturday night is calling out! :)

Have a great evening!

"In any case, Damián is pi$$ed the heck off and he tends to become a lot more dangerous when he is in this particular state of mind. Don't we all!"

Great observation in a great recap. These characters are versions writ large of the small betrayals and cowardices that we're all capable of.

Yes, there is clearly too much of gentle, trusting, loving Omar in Yago to suit Fidel and his assistant Teo. The former's innate goodness is going to wreck Fidel's plan.

And there is too much remorse in "Pinzas" for him to be a reliable member of the opposing team. His guilt has eaten him up and is responsible for him throwing away his thirty pieces of silver. Lucio and Damian are not vulnerable at all. Sara is
still questionable. Ambar and Mathias are the wild card that could mess up everybody.

Loved the translations as always. "Retachar" is new for me. Many thanks. I smiled when you used the word "jumper" (British English) for "sweater" (American English) Like Spanish, our mother language has diverged in various interesting ways over the years.

Enjoy your Saturday night Nandicta. I remember those days!

Thanks Nandicta!! Always love the vocabulary lessons.

Tofie, with Fidel in the picture it does make me wonder how much free will Yago really has. He may be about to find out he is a tool. I think you hit the nail on the head.

I do think Yago would have told Teo and Katia abt the video but I think he himself needed time to process.

Damian knows that Ambar and Matias are Sara's and Lucio's weak points. He's not going to wait long until he strikes through them.

Thanks, Nadicta! I just love your recaps, and how you always give us great vocab and dichos.

I think we all figured that Fidel didn't take Omar under his protection just out of the goodness of his heart. This guy is a mafioso! He has to have some ulterior motive. Omar/Yago is a tool-- a weapon to be used for Fidel's own benefit I'm sure. It helps if that weapon is motivated by his own thirst for revenge. Then it's a win-win for them both. But it gets complicated when your weapon gets confused and thrown off mission by feelings, love and regrets.

Yago's problem is Omar. Omar is a good man.

Little Matias is a gutsy one. He told Lucio he's not scared of Damian ... after all, he's a black belt and Damian is just an old man. I hope his overconfidence doesn't get him in a jam he can't get out of. Damian will not take kindly to being challenged.

Gracias. Nandicta
I have a problem staying tuned in to this novella, is Fidel with Yago, did he escape during the prison fire?

Have to laugh at Ambar wearing Sara's dress. I don't remember what the dress looked like, but Sara is about 2ft taller than Ambar. Was the dress down to Ambar's ankles? So unnovela like!

Hey everyone, I have a couple of questions for all of you.
1. Is this a good TN? Is it worth my time to watch all of the episodes to catch up and get on board with it?
2. I thought I read someone say that it's moving to 10:00pm? Is that true?

Cathyx, I wasn't planning on watching but glad I am. Fast moving. I heard from other commentators it was moving to 10 but not sure.

Thanks, Nandicta. Your recap reads like a novel I can't put down. You capture all these characters so well. Love the vocab.

Ambar is getting on my nerves sticking up for Damien. She knows Damien is not on the up and up. Way back when, she overheard him pressuring Sara to do something and chose not to pursue what it was about. Lucio had every right to throw out Damien for threatening his son.

Ambar's first dress was very form fitting and definitely not Sara's, unless Sara last wore it 10 years ago before her growth spurt. :D The second dress was too short for Sara, at least at her age now, but was loose enough on Ambar to fit her big sis.

I see romance in Teo and Katia's future. Good chemistry between these two arguing over Yago.

Carvivlie, I agree that Yago would tell Teo and Katia what was on the tape but he simply need time to process it. I think he was holding out hope that Abel wasn't with the others.

Hey Patio Pals! Cheers for stopping by! It's always a pleasure to read your comments.

-- CountxAlacran: I enjoy watching more nuanced characters as opposed to the caricaturally divided villain/goody-two-shoes characters we usually get in TNs precisely because of all the blurred lines. As a result, the way each viewer feels about the characters is less homogeneous than in classic TNs. It's funny how you can't stand Abel and like Ámbar when I find myself softening towards Abel and disliking Ámbar. All her outbursts towards Yago then her defense of Damián then her refusal to take treatment and when she finally agrees because of Yago she then tells her sister than she didn't do for Yago because she has personality. She annoys me quite a bit. She is not evil like her father and sister but let's just say that it's obvious these people are related. Matías, on the other hand, is such a joy to watch. The child actor selected for the role is excellent!

-- Jarifa: You're a sweetheart for popping in just to show your appreciation for the poem I posted. It would've been a pleasure to have you accompany us in the "Yago" Patio, but I understand that you have a preference for comedies while I like murder, mayhem and villainies! Muahahahaha! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and see you on the SdA Patio :)

-- JudyB: I said it before and I'll say it again: ¡Es usted un verdadero sol! Your words exude wisdom, kindness and light. I always learn so much from you. Many thanks, indeed!

I really like the way you categorized each "pawn" in this vengeful game of chess. I never considered the characters under that light, but you are absolutely right: Yago's remnants of Omar and Abel's remorse, coupled with his adoration of Ámbar, make them volatile and unreliable elements for their respective squads.

-- Daisynjay: I'm sending you a virtual bear hug because that poem and song never fail to turn me into a blubbering mess. They remind me of my granny QEPD. But as our Patio Pal Susanlynn once said: "Life ends but love doesn't have to end". We carry the loved ones we lost in our hearts for the remainder of our lives.

-- Carvivlie: "He (Abel) seems to be the one who got the worst end of the stick. He didn't know Omar was to take the fall, he murdered the policeman after Lucio unmasked him and pushed him to it., he was the only one who wanted to go back and save Omar. For all her tears Sara never made a move to help Omar or even spoke words to that affect." I completely agree with your assessment and this is one of the reasons why I'm warming up to Abel. Now if he would only stop using them pinzas. Out of the people who planned and carried out the robbery, this is my personal estimation of their culpability from most to least guilty/evil: Damián, Sara, Lucio then Abel.

-- Tofie: Great observation about the Sarquis couple. Sara cannot pretend that she suffers in her marriage. As Lucio told her a couple of episodes ago, he is the kind of husband she deserves and he loves her despite her "criminal past and twisted mind". I'd go as far as affirming that Lucio is actually better than Sara deserves.

I don't know what Yago's endgame is, or how much of it is his and how much is solely Fidel's. As Carlos asked a few days ago, why didn't Yago just keep the casino he won in the game of cards and watch his enemies squirm? I have no idea and won't even venture a guess. I'll just enjoy the ride and get surprised along the way. I do however like the hypothesis of CountxAlacran: "Yago wants to be part of their karma"

-- Niecie: Yay somebody else is annoyed by Ámbar! :D Great observations about the dress. I'm confused by height unless I see people standing side by side. I thought the two sisters were the same build. And you are right about Teo and Katia, they would make such a bada$$ couple, though I don't know how Rocker Bouffant would react on Monday when she learns that her beloved Yago was pistol-whipped by Baldy.

-- Vivi: I completely agree that, seen from Teo's point of view, Yago is jeopardizing their mission and endangering the lives of his sidekicks. Still, whacking Yago over the head with a handgun is a little too drastic (that's assuming that the invisible figure that broke into Yago's car is indeed Teo).

-- Anonymous: I agree. Matías is a feisty little fella! Good on him for not letting that cockroach intimidate him. He even told him he hates having him as a grandpa! Great casting choice picking that child actor. He is great, he has very good chemistry with all the actors and physically, he looks like he could be either Lucio's or Yago's son.

-- Variopinta: Fidel is indeed the powerful and filthy rich mafioso who helped Omar escaped jail and bankrolled his transformation into Yago. It is still too early for us to know what his real intentions are, but he is one of the most intriguing parts of this story, in my humble opinion.

-- Cathyx: In my humble opinion, Yago is an outstanding series: fast-paced, engrossing, action-packed, emotional, witty, stylized, with great writing, excellent production value and a brilliant cast. Also, it will only last for 62 episodes (I read 65 episodes in another source). Some people might not like the subject matter and prefer lighter stories or more classic TN plotlines and that's cool. Personally, I tend to enjoy grittier series so I was attracted to this one from the beginning. Depending on your personal tastes, you might give it a go or avoid it, solely based on the synopsis and the series' visual style. However, if you don't mind either way about Yago's "different" feel, I'd invite you to watch the first two episodes and then decide whether the series is to your liking and worth investing the time necessary to catch up.

As for the time move, Yago was meant to replace EHDLS in the 10 pm slot. However, since Tres Veces Ana had production problems and got delayed, Univision decided to air Yago to replace PyP until TVA is ready. Therefore, I would assume that Yago and TVA will switch places at some point, just not sure exactly when.

Hope this answers your query

The Patio was divided about whether Yago should've told his mom that he is Omar or not. Judging from my emotional response to the scene, you can guess that I'm for. Now that I had time to think about it, I am still for. Yago has a way of keeping his little brother close and protecting him: He hired Bruno to work for him. On the other hand, Melina was putting herself in danger and Yago had no way of protecting her other than this one. Her claims that Omar is still alive, her run-ins with shamans etc were raising suspicions (remember Lucio's expression when the shaman told him that he knows he had a hand in the tragedy of Melina's son?). It was better to put Melina's mind at ease. I believe she is perfectly capable of protecting Yago's secret, as soon as her initial shock and exuberance wear off, I think she'll keep her mouth shut to avoid losing her son again. Well, I hope so, anyway.

Thank you all! Enjoy the rest of your weekend! :)

Ok. I just saw the first one, and I'm hooked. It will take me a while to catch up and I won't come back until I am so that i don't have any spoilers. See you guys later.

Thanks, Nandicta! I especially liked your comment "let's just say that it's obvious these people are related" [Ambar and Sara]. I'm not exactly annoyed with Ambar, but I am mystified by her. Doesn't she remember being a child and hearing her sister and father argue about Sara having to do things that Sara didn't want to do? We're not talking about kid stuff, like cleaning her room or brushing her teeth!

"He who looks for the truth runs the risk of finding it." That's what Isabel's mother has been warning on Hotel for quite a while, too. Is this theme going to be a new trend in telenovelas? People always say the truth will set them free, but the truth can't always be good news.

Glad you'll be joining us, Cathyx. You won't be sorry.

Gracias, Nandicta and gracias to the rest of this team. I'm finally caught up after a few busy days that also involved playback problems.

Yago is taking too many risks at this point and now little Matias is in danger from his own grandfather (who would sell him for spare parts if he was desperate enough). Damian is appropriately named; I can't recall that name being given to any character that wasn't evil. He's a total sociopath. Threatening to cut off a child's hands?

No pity for Abel no matter what. And Ambar annoys me, too. She has no reality check on anything and up until now that wasn't her fault. However, she is far too young for Yago and that gets more obvious every time I see them together.

I'm enjoying this series because it's gritty and action-packed without being a narco story. I think Televisa found the perfect compromise.

Last night as I couldn't sleep, mind running through subjects, I started thinking about this show. If the education of Yago started right after he escaped from jail why has it taken him 12 (11 years maybe if he was in prison for 1) to come after them? Would he wait for Fidel to get out of jail? Why? What has he been doing in the interim? Also, if Fidel was the one who hired Damian in the first place, why wouldn't he have passed on that info to our Scooby Gang? Is Teo just a hired gun by Fidel? Katia seems to be a friend but is she connected to Fidel too? Is it possible that Yago doesn't know that Fidel is watching behind the scenes?

Interesting questions, Carvivlie. Omar/Yago is no longer as naïve as he used to be (who is?). So surely he knows Fidel, who went to much expense to mentor and remake Omar, is out there somewhere ensuring his investment pays off. Didn't Omar and Fidel both escape the day of the fire?

Finally realized where I have seen Fidel before. He was the kindly grandfather/retired police detective in Mentir para vivir. Now I can rest.

Niecie: I'm betting Teo was the one, who ambushed Yago inside the car!
